really friendly and easy going, laid-back with interesting topics of discussion and a good weaver of essays and mini-grammar lessons. lots of fun. fairly easy class if you do the work. not too writing intensive, but attendence is fairly mandatory.

Remember, this is an intro class so you are NOT expected to know anything about poetry beforehand. Definitly take her class. Its shorta relaxing bc its a break from hearing lectures in other classes. Sometimes we would leave early. Shes open to everyones opinion and shell have you write on anything you are interested in as your thesis.

I loved this class. The readings are very easy, and they are actually pretty interesting. The papers aren't difficult and we got to watch Fight Club (in order to write a film analysis). Ms. Weller is an amazing teacher, you can tell she loves and cares about her students and what she is teaching. Take this class, you won't regret it!

Very cool teacher- down to earth- makes sure you understand the readings- gives you pages to read, then you come to class, write for like 5 minutes, small group discussion bout what you read for like 5 more min then the rest of class is group discussion- papers are pretty eay to get thru! Actually makes poetry interesting. Loved this class. She grades papers a little worse than I expected but I also didn't put any effort into them because I didn't care for the material. Group discussions suck because no one ever did the readings. She lays everything out for you in class so it isn't a big deal if you skip them.

She was a great teacher, especially if you asked for help. You could turn in any paper a day late through e-mail and she always let us out early. The class wasn't too difficult and she was really nice.

You read passages from books and then discuss it in class, sometimes you don't even have to read to participate in the discussion. She gives adequate time to complete the assignments and sometimes even lets them be a little late. TAKE HER SHE IS THE BEST EVER!!!

She's amazing. her free-writes are topics based on current events. class is easy.4 papers which are togerther worth 50% of your grade. You do rough drafts in class and she revises them too so you can get her input on what you need to do to make your essay better. very insightful eyes with a lot of perspectives from different people!

Phenomenal teacher! Best teacher you'll have here and it's only ucwr. Take her if you can because her free write topics are so relevant to current events and your papers are on stuff you want to write on (big supporter of writing on your interests)

Very good teacher. The class isn't hard, and the rough drafts you get to workshop and turn in really tell you where you stand in terms of how much revision you need to do. Highly recommended!!!

Ms. Weller makes what could be a very boring class quite interesting and engaging. Her focus on modern events is enjoyable and workshops and drafting processes help students to perfect their individual writing skills. There is not an obscene amount of work, and is usually plenty of time to complete assignments. Take her--she is wonderful!

Amazing! She is such a great teacher, in her UCWR class you mostly talk about current events and it's really interesting. Grading is a little harder, it's hard to get an A, but you can do it if you meet with her and talk about your papers. I highly encourage you take her for any English class!

class=easy i wrote papers the night before and did pretty well.last paper done 1 week in advance saw her and she said it was great just add this, I did and I got a B+ which was the lowest grade i had gotten on any paper, I sent her an email n a week later nothing so i sent another and same thing in total I sent about 5 to which she never responded

Sherrie Weller is a passionate and ethusiastic professor. She loves what she teaches and obviously cares that her students learn and enjoy class. I looked forward to her class. She's a fair grader and you don't need to be good at English or writing to get an A in Engl 283; just do the reading. Class is not super literary but still interesting.

The comments prior are mostly true but this class is not a breeze. Ive taken two classes of AP English and write/read very well and still only pulled off an A-. But compared to other teachers she really cares about you and will take the time to make you a better writer.

I picked her spec. b/c she was said to be one of the easier ucwr prof's. If you want to get an A just do the reader responses, work your butt of on those papers and look at the good feedback on papers. The 1st paper I got an 87 and then by the 2nd-4th I was hitting A's. Overall, I got an A but I didn't get it by blowing off this class.

Its very difficult to get As on her papers as she demands perfection from the concepts she teaches in this class. The class itself is very interesting and Professor Weller makes it even better. Class is basically open discussion. You read a new book every two weeks and you only write 6 papers(1 critical analysis, 2midterm,1 comparison paper,2 final papers). The only downside is that it is EXTREMELY difficult to receive an A in the course.

Professor Weller is super nice and enthusiastic! I would take her again. Although it is not an easy A, you really need to work hard for it, but she supplies you with the opportunities to do so. She is also HUGE into politics and is very liberal, with that said, every freewrite we did was against repubs. Keep that in mind if it offends you.

LOVE HER. You get two tests and she gives you study guides. If you read you will do fine. There are two essays which are very simple. And then two reflections on two events on campus. The final is a poetry presentation and final reflection. She is wonderful and if you send her a rough draft she will look over it. She is so nice and understanding.

AMAZING PROFESSOR. I absolutely loved sherrie! I've never had such a chill professor like her. She extended like all of our papers if we asked her to. We told her not to give us a paper over spring break and of course she listened. Honestly amazing; although, kind of a tough grader. But it shouldn't be hard to get a B or better in her class.

I LOVE Professor Weller! Go to her office hours! She gives a lot of helpful feedback and you'll really grow as a writer in the class. She's a tough grader, but she lets you redo your papers if you get less than a 90% on them. It's easy to get at least a B in the class, but you'll have to push yourself for an A. We read an incredible array of memoirs, ones that you actually would want to read, and class discussions were thought provoking. Sherrie cares so much about her students it's honestly amazing. The course I took was writing intensive, but it was 4 short 1-2 page responses, and 2 longer essays regarding the memoirs. I left this class enjoying reading again, 10/10 would recommend for LIT core. Be prepared to read a lot (7 memoirs) and to discuss in class.

A bit of a picky grader. Could never seem to get 100 on any assignments, no matter how good they were. Always stuck in the 92-96 range and ended with an A-. However, she is far better than other professors. I would take her again.

Wow, I will never encounter another professor as amazing as Professor Weller and I am okay with that. She taught with so much knowledge and passion for the memoir's we read in Women in Literature. I believe we read 7/8 books which seems like a lot, but her choices were so amazing I ENJOYED reading them. I cannot recommend this class enough!!!

Probably my favorite teacher I have ever had here at Loyola. She is incredibly passionate about female memorists and she introduced me to a genre I typically don't go for. A lot of reading but it almost felt more like being in a book club than an actual class which I loved.

Sherrie Weller is an angel. I took her for ucwr and loved her so much I HAD to take her for uclr. She is truly the type of teacher that makes you feel seen, heard, and UNDERSTOOD. You are guaranteed to do well in her class if you simply try. TAKE HER IF YOU HAVE THE CHANCE I LOVE THIS GIRL

Professor Weller is a gem of Loyola. Her class is super easy as long as you show up and participate. No out-of-class assignments. She requires a heavy amount of reading and discussion in class. Almost everyone finsihed with an A as long as you attended lectures. She is also a super interesting person and has some fun stories. Take her if you can!
