Her class was informative, but not very interesting. Quite cut and dry, no flavour. She gets really angry if you sit at the back of the class when there's chairs left over at the front. She doesn't post her lectures on Blackboard, so attendance is mandatory.
WORST PROF EVER!! She doesn't know what she wants from her students very unclear on what she wants expected on her papers. Repeats her lectures over and over, very boring class I dragged myself to them since it was mandatory which I understand. Save yourself and DO NOT enrol in her class!!
worst prof
She is the worst teacher I have ever been taught by, don't take her class
Worst teacher I have ever been taught by, don't take her class
Really tough marker and her classes are very dry. Would take it again.
Sherrin is the worst english teacher I've had. She would give assignments not explain them and expect you to know what you're writing about. Every lecture was a random reading that had nothing to do with the curriculum instead of showing how to do the assignments well. Avoid this prof if you can. Seriously.
Sherrin was really helpful and provided great feedback on my assignments. Overall my writing improved greatly over the semester, and if I could I would definitely sign up for her class again.
She is not a good professor, her classes are really boring. She never gives good feedback. DONT TAKE CLASSES WITH HER!
Marks awfully and inconsistently AVOID taking, final paper she was very passive aggressive with awful commentary and says that she told us things before that she did not. Honestly an awful teacher all around don't take.
Obviously it's tough to teach a first year english class to a bunch of first years who don't give a crap. But I think she is actually pretty good. If you actually want to try she will help you out. She cares.
Terrible prof. Does not care about her students. Does not teach or explain how to write the various assignments. Very tough grader with no constructive feed back. Boring. Strict. Lots of quizzes. Took her class and almost failed. Took it the next semester and my prof completely disagreed with her comments on my writing. Enjoy...
Reeeaallly tough grader. First English class with her, assignments were not clear and then marked harshly. Marks up to very high standards and being in English when its not your best subject is very discouraging. Did not enjoy
I'm about to drop her class. Her class isn't for everyone. Especially if you are not interested in English, don't take it because her teaching style is targeted towards those who excel in English. hence she doesn't offer clear guideline on her assignments and exams. #you'vebeenwarned
I'm confused as to why Dr. Berezowsky has such a bad rating. I think she is an amazing prof! She goes through assignments thoroughly, she explains things super well and responds to emails fast if you ever have any questions. English is a tough course but she made it enjoyable for me. I would love to have Sherrin as my prof again.
She is a great prof! We only had to write 2 essays for the whole semester and she isn't a tough marker. Lot's of easy reading quizzes based on short stories/poems we study in class to boost grade.
She is extremely tough at marking and she won't explain anything to you if you miss her class, she expects you to get it on your own and her lectures are soooo boring and dull! she can also be pretty rude through her emails so watch out! and good luck passing her class if you don't attend regularly!
Brutal final exam super boring in class waste of time do not recommend
Dr. Berezowsky cares deeply about literature and her class. If you give her respect she will give you respect in return. Initially, she can come across as stubborn, but she seems that way because she is pushing for excellence. I would take a class with her in a heartbeat.
Was one of those classes where you have to push through. I would not take a class with her again, to be fair it was a 111 course, but even now that I'm in 102 I looked for another prof. She did give good feedback, so you knew what not to do. Was a somewhat tough marker, I did well, but I saw other students struggle. Wouldn't recommend.
This was my first year at MacEwan University. I did English 30-1 through MacEwan ACC I finished with an 85%. Then I met Sherrin. On the first day, she makes it known she feels she is "perfect". She acts like she's teaching a PhD course. She is mean, will call you out in front of everyone, and marks extremely hard. I had to drop, not worth it.
I might possibly drop this class, when I upgraded my english 30-1 I was getting high 90s and even last term in 102 i ended with an A- and now im sitting at D in this class. Shpw up! , shes a tough marker, and her final exam is looking super brutal. If english isnt easy for you dont take it ! English is my best core subject and this is killing me.
She's very picky and expects a high level of knowledge and eloquence from her students; however, she does not provide enough to get what she asks for. If you take her course you should already be very good at grammar, she's very picky and precise with her marking of it. She's fine if you're ready to work extremely hard (not worth it though)
Although Sherrin's lectures were a bit boring, they provided me with new knowledge to further my ability as a writer. Her powerpoints provide good information with many examples. I also feel she marked fairly. If you put in the effort, it'll show in your grade. She also gave amazing feedback on all the assignments she handed back to me.
I have no idea what everyone is talking about. Sherrin is a great professor. If you put in some effort, then you will be fine! She is an easy maker and is fair when giving feedback. Many people in my class are failing because they either don't show up or don't try. This isn't a class where you can not put any effort in... come on people...
She expects WAY TOO much of her students and docs marks for things she fails to mention and expects you to know. She did not show examples of previous students work on "do's" and "don't's". Only AFTER the first assignment was completed when she noticed many students struggled. That was very ineffective, she should be proactive rather than reactive.
She's a tough marker.
She's not as terrible as everyone makes her seem. Yes, her lectures can be boring and she has very dry humour, however, she is definitely not the worst prof. She's very kind and super welcoming, especially if you go to see her one on one. Her feedback is helpful and can be put towards future work.
Her lectures are super easy to understand especially for a student like me who is weak in English.
gives very good feedback
Lectures are long and dry. Attendance and participation is marked. Gives good feedback on assignments but marks them hard
Im sure that if you enjoy arts and writing you will love this teacher, but if you're just taking this bc its manditory, I don't recommend. Also if you aren't the best at showing up, drop while you can get your money back as it is difficult to come back from that (happened to me). oh and easily the hardest marker with minimal explanation
A very average prof. She is very nice and accesible outside of class. Pros: Good feedback on essay, easy midterm, very passionate on topics, tells you thoroughly what she wants on the essay. Cons: Attendance. Sometimes boring lecture. Does not post lecture notes on blackboard, forcing you to not skip class tho. You'll be OK if you take her.
Dr. Berezowsky is a great professor. She does a great job engaging her class in discussions. She is very clear in her expectations for assignments and will go the extra mile to help. If you come to class, keep up with the short readings, and hand in your assignments on time (just be a diligent student, really) you'll pass in flying colors.
Was a great prof to have. Her lectures were great, not posted on blackboard but if you showed up to the class (which is part of your mark) then you would be fine. She gives excellent feedback and is always willing to answer questions. She is a very fair grader and if you do the work youd be fine. Did spring class, and highly recommend
Dr. Berezowsky is an excellent prof to take for ENGL102. She tells you exactly what she is looking for in the assignments, and if you take the time to put thought and effort into your essays you will do fine. If you are the type of student who prefers to skip class and learn on your own, Dr. Berezowsky will not be the prof for you!
Gives good feedback. Tries to make the class really fun and she's really nice.
I love having Dr. B as my English prof. Going into my first university level English she made me feel comfortable and confident. If you want to be successful she will help you. You have to be a good student who enjoys participating to really excel, but her lectures I found were interesting and engaging and I wish I had her for 103!
I was left pretty discouraged after ENGL102 but taking Dr. Berezowsky for 103 made me like English surprisingly. She is super clear with what she expects, gives great feedback and is always willing to help. Her lectures can be dry but TAKE NOTES because she doesn't put anything on the midterm or final exam that wasn't covered in class.
Sherrin is a very kind prof. She genuinely wants her students to do well. With class being online this year she responded to emails very quickly and was eager to give feedback during assignments. She marks fairly and gives helpful feedback on what to fix. She is an easy going caring prof!
Dr. Berezowsky was an amazing English prof. I took this class online and she arranged things so that we could do it at any time during the week. She gave amazing feedback on essays, I went from having 70's in Engl 102 to getting nothing less than a 90 on any of my assignments in her class. Highly recommend taking a class with her!
Always responded to emails quickly, encouraged us to send our work for feedback as we worked on it. Encouraged questions. Class was asynchronous and it worked so well for me. Held optional mtgs to explain our assignment expectations in-depth. What I learned in this class will benefit me throughout the rest of my degree, esp for writing a paper
Dr Berezowsky obviously has a passion for teaching, especially in her chosen field. She communicates her requirements clearly. She is more concerned with students actually learning the material than arbitrary testing. She is a fair grader, not an easy one but she gives many opportunities for feedback prior to submitting projects/papers.
Dr. Berezowsky was super nice and helpful anytime I had questions. She was very understanding when I had to miss a few classes and was willing to give me an extension on an assignment while I was ill which was really appreciated. I wouldn't say it is an easy course but I learned a lot and it was worth the hard work.
If you want a heavy courseload I’d recommend her! She isn’t bad but I’d def not take her again. Marks hard too but if you put in the work you’ll do good.
Professor Berezowksy was a great prof. She gave good feedback and pinpointed exactly where I needed to improve which was very helpful. She is available to meet in person or by email to answer any questions. There is a lot of reading as expected but very enjoyable class.
Dr. Berezowsky is a passionate professor, there's no denying that. Her grading is a bit tough, but fair considering her expectations. MLA Format and two grace days. Unfortunately, I'm not the best student, and handed in all the papers late even with those grace days, but she was pretty accommodating overall. Final was hard, STUDY WELL.
Sherrin is a very tough marker and has rigorous writing, and if you choose to approach your papers differently, you're bound to do poorly on your assignments. Her final exam was ridiculous for it being an intro-level class. You're required to remember all the poems line by line while having to write an essay. Avoid her if you care about your GPA.
Prof B is passionate & knowledgeable. She encourages student participation & she is endlessly patient & enthusiastic. Her feedback is prompt & helpful. She is professional, polite & invested. She goes above & beyond to ensure the success of her students, e.g., by incl. bonus discussion posts & grace days, & being consistently available for help.
so terribly annoying, very hard to learn, very rude
Spends all time asking the class the answer rather than actually lecturing
Dr. Berezowsky is excellent at teaching her lessons and really cares for the student's improvement in English. I highly recommend!
Berezowsky seems like generally nice person, BUT she is so boring and her lectures drag on. I don't get the feeling that she cares if her students succeed-she's passionate about the subject but not the teaching. She doesn't post any notes on meskanas. Gives 2 graces days overall. Spends half the class waiting for students to answer her questions.
Dr. Berezowsky, she will rudely correct you if you don't call her this, is overall just kind of meh. I loved English in high school put she hasn't made English fun. Her lectures drag on, she's not super interesting and is slow to respond to emails. She wears a mask which can make her hard to understand. Not a fan.
Did not teach anything, the class does 80% of the talking/teaching. She also did not give anyone their final papers/grades back. Her class was so boring and it felt like she did not know what she was talking about ever
Dr. Berezowsky was clear on all assignments her class was easy to follow and learn. All her feedback was well received and helped me to improve my writing technique and skills. She also encouraged class discussion and alternative points of view and was very considerate of students' ideas and opinions. I would absolutely retake her class.
If I could give a negative grade I would
final exam was difficult, long, and ambiguous at times for an intro-level course. in-class discussions were interesting. lectures rather dull and vocab-heavy. papers were interesting topics, but it is near-impossible to get an A+ on them. nice person who is passionate and encouraged me to pursue literary studies, but the class format wasn't for me.
ENGL102 is so boring and I cannot fault Dr. Berezowsky for that. I found that some lessons were so boring and it felt as though sometimes I didn't even need to be there. Dr. Berezowsky is very kind and understanding though, she is a great person!
terrible format for an intro level class for the essay you are required to remember every poem read line by line and analyse the poems, there is also a definition section and then an entire essay. berezowsky is one of the worst graders i have had for a teacher and its impossible to get a good grade on any of her wrting assignment DO NOT TAKE!!
Dr. Berezowsky's lectures for ENGL 102 were very helpful in preparing us for each assignment. Expectations were clear, and every project led into the next nicely. I had all Ds in English in high school and somehow managed to come out of this class with an A just from what I learnt in the lectures.
Leaves weird comments that at times can feel like jabs and not proper feedback for your work. Everything must be printed off and she will take away marks on assignments submitted online. Deadlines are odd. She seems a fine person, I could see some people loving her class.
If you do anything different than how she does it you will not do good. She marks insanely hard for an intro course and her lectures are quite boring. Seems like a nice lady but this is probably the worst class I have ever taken. Do not take this class with this professor if you want an A - she barely gives those out.
A caring and passionate prof but her lectures are extremely boring. She loves class discussion, and she won't move on from a question until multiple people answer it vocally & to her liking, even if it's a painfully obvious one like "what are some things we read". But, her assignments are easy to do well on because her grading criteria is clear.
Don't take this class under any circumstances. Dr. Berezowsky is condescending and will not acknowledge you unless you call her "doctor". She has a quiz at the beginning of every single class and assigns multiple readings every day. She is very passionate about English but her classes are incredibly dry. Just save yourself the stress.
Just an extremely hard grader and seems to not have much empathy for students
If you want to pass your class then do NOT take this class with Berezowsky. Although she seems like a nice person outside of her job, she seems judgmental towards students who aren't as good as she is when it comes to English. If you have any type of questions she can be very condescending when talking one on one with her.
I have had Dr. Berezowsky for 3 English classes, and I think she's great. She loves it when people care about the work and respect the work she puts in. Make sure you do the readings and try to participate in class.
Well... don't take this class. The final exam is 3 parts (A, B & C). It is all handwritten, and you only have 3 hours to write it. Also, remember that one of the parts is a handwritten essay. All papers must be handed in as a physical copy. Good luck getting feedback because her writing is MESSY. She also grades like she's on Masterchef. So hard
Berezowsky was okay. Her lectures are pretty boring but she expects students to participate and she will wait until somebody answers her. Textbooks were mandatory but I could easily answer questions without doing the readings. I would find a better teacher who grades more generously if I were you.
Dr Berezowsky was a good prof overall. She did mark pretty hard, but it was never without reason. She went over the material in detail. Her picks for our readings were mostly all engaging. Tests were pretty easy if you came to class and took notes.
This is a hard class. The final was so hard you have to write an essay, memorize like 11 poems line for line and write about them, and then write 3 more huge paragraphs on top of that in 3 hours all by hand. It was actually insane. Midterms weren't much better either lots of hand written stuff. Overall decent prof, lecture attendance not needed.
Dr. Berezowsky was a solid professor overall. While she graded quite strictly, it was always fair and justified. She clearly communicated what she expected in our writing, and her assignments and feedback helped me improve my writing a lot.
I honestly really liked her. The lectures are pretty dry but if you just go into it with an open mind your writing will likely improve. She's very clear about her expectations in your writing. Her assignments and feedback helped me improve my writing a lot. Her marking can be hard, so don't slack on anything written outside of class.
Do not take her class, shes a tough marker, go for a teacher that gives out less work and marks you more fairly. You can put enough work to get an A but she will give you a B or C+. She said in class that she marks big assignments very strictly. I strongly recommend a different professor, her classes are very boring.
A bit of a tough grader but overall a good professor
If you could, drop out of her class right away. shes a strict marker, and you cant read her handwriting so good luck understanding her feedback. You also have to hand in all your assingments as a hard copy. Honestly go for a professor that gives marks you more fairly. If you take her class you GPA will drop.
For an intro level class she marks ridiculously. For paper that are worth 15% and above, she rarely gives out an A-. If you take her class your gpa is most likely gonna drop. Go for a professor that actually knows how to mark intro level assignments. Not only she demands everything to be a hard copy which was a pain. Go for a Different professor.
She was one of the worst profs I've had
Let me clarify a few things. As a 4th-year student, I have had her for 103 and a 300-level class. Is she a tough grader? Yes. Does she expect participation? Absolutely! Does she care about you? YES. I think students need to understand that, as an entry-level class, she will expect a lot from you. Go to her office hours. She cares.
I think she's a really good prof. She is definitely a tough grader for assignments but if you attend her lectures and do the readings you should be fine. She is also super easy to reach via email and is always open to answer questions.
Tough grader and you have to hand assignments as a hard copy, and she doesn't post the marks of the finale paper online so you have to pick it up in person. Go for a different professor.
She is from my experience a great prof she genuinely cares about her students and overall I definitely became a better writer and reader in her class. She is definitely a tougher marker but overall fair and never disagreed with her grading. Overall would recommend
