For an English professor, you can't read her handwriting. All the many papers we did she graded HARD and didn't give you real tips on how to improve.
Very helpful, I like her a lot.
Horrible! She doesn't actually "teach". I feel as though I spent $500.00 on a text book. I could just read the text at home. Instead of instructing, she relies on group work.

She is a tough grader and this class is work intensive. I've definitely improved my writing this semester and I would recommend her to serious students. (She should post due dates sooner.)
I have learned a lot since being in this class, i think she is a great teacher and would reccomend her but you have to be willing to work and put time into your papers.
Great teacher
Nice professor who grades pretty hard. She is very willing to help a student if he or she needs it. Be ready to work pretty hard in her class.
She was super nice. She was a tough grader though! I got an A, but I had to work hard for it! You will become a better writer.
I loved Prof. Cisler. She was so helpful and instructive. I came out of her class a well developed writer, and hope to have class with her again. She graded easy too!
Pretty hard grader but super helpful - be prepared to ask for help. Works her butt off grading papers and preparing for classes. I had to be the one voting for "hotness". One of the most attractive women I have ever seen - a complete doll.
Excellent teacher. I went into the class thinking I knew everything about resume writing, and found myself to be SERIOUSLY lacking. She is graceful, poised, intelligent and helpful. I'd take a class with her again in a heartbeat.
It's not that she's a hard grader: she just isn't clear on her grading policy until after the first essay has already been graded. Not the greatest ENG prof. ever, but she is decent enough. I'd take her class again.
I thought Sherry was a little tough. She is willing to meet with you for any issue's you may have but, you dive right in to writting projects.Whether you are ready or not.Sometimes this is a good thing but not all the time. I felt overwhelmed at times.
She was a really great teacher. She put a lot of time and effort into assuring that our class was given enough clarification and help on assignments. She was also very friendly and interested about things goin on in her students lives.
Prof. Cisler is really great. It seems like she really cares about her students and tries to you out as much as she can. Her eng 105 class is challenging, and it makes you think, but the last time I checked, that wasn't a bad thing. She's def a great professor.
Good teacher!
Lecturer Cisler provides for an easy course. There are many projects due for her course but they are simple and fast to complete. She is a great help outside of class.
prof cisler is the best english teacher i've ever had! she actually cares about her students and made the class interesting. I hateed the thought of taking another english class, but i actually learned something. her class is pretty tough, but you'll do fine if your not a slacker
She was so easy to understand and very clear!!
The assignments were easy to complete; overall the class was not difficult. She cancels class for individual conferencing so that's nice. The only bad thing I have to say about her class is the attendance policy. If you miss more than four days of class you are automatically dropped from the course.
Wonderful teacher! She helps immensly with anything you have questions on. She is always ready and willing to help during office hours or whenever she can. She truly loves what she teaches and it shows. She grades tough but do the work and you'll be fine!!! Excellent!
Really Easy specially her PAWS 101 and 102 class, make sure its the PAWS class though
Sherry grades HARD!!! But she is one of the sweetest ladies I've ever met. She bakes chocolate chip cookies for each of her classes. Can't beat that.
One of the best teachers I've ever had hands down. Grades papers and projects on the difficult side but if you go to her office hours before hand, she'll really help out! Got a D on my first paper. After I went to office hours, I got an A- on my next one. She's amazing! And the cookies are bomb!
Cisler is a great teacher. If you pay attention in class, and do the assignments, you will be fine! There were only 4 assignments for the semester- 2 papers, and 2 exams, which lead to a semi-easy course. Very nice lady!
prof. cisler is the nicest lady ever! she is really helpful when you ask her and is always there for you. She really cares about you and the grade that you get and loves to teach. She helps to explain each text you read! Yes, she is a hard grader & you cant read her writing, but she is a great teacher &i would love to take her again!
Please take my word for it, she grades HARD! I'm an honors student and I struggled and cried to get that sinkin' B. She will tell you that your draft is fine, but then she will give you a C or D on the final grade. Cisler is a nice lady, but is often unclear and grades as if you're going for a Ph.D. or something. Shockingly I have to take her again
This person is 1 of the worst prof. I've ever had. She likes to hear herself talk, it confuses half the class on what she wants. She makes excuses when confronted about her being wrong. I was getting A's in my other eng classes but can't get past a C with her. She grades way too hard. She says the materail is hard but doesn't cut any breaks.GET OUT!
Cisler was one of the nicest and most organized Professors at ASU that I have encountered as of yet! She was always on her top game and was very passionate about the subject she was teaching. Her classroom was a joy to be in and I am grateful to have been a part of it.
Cisler might be nice, but she is not entirely competent. She is NOT clear in her grading expectations. It was difficult to know what exactly she wanted too since she took her sweet time grading papers. She might know professional writing very well, but she certainly doesn't teach it well. I'm still surprised I got by with an A-. Don?t bother wit
Cisler is my favorite teacher at ASU. She always helps her students and makes sure the information given is clear. She constantly gave opportunities to discuss all papers before they were due and was always available by email - overall very helpful in everything!
I took this class online and she was amazingly helpful and would always provide help when it was asked for. Do the work and you'll do fine. My only negative was that I couldn't meet her in person, but her emails and announcements were always witty and enjoyable. I highly recommend taking Sherry Cisler for any english course.
Professor Cisler is passionate about what she teaches. This is my second class with her and she is always available to help, especially if you are struggling. She wants her students to be challenged, but also to be successful. Be sure to do all the assignments, as there are not that many, and missing one may really hurt your grade.
Such a wonderful and great teacher. Not only is she very nice but also very helpful and caring. She deciphers each story in class so you are not stuck analyzing it yourself. I took her class this last semester and I'm glad I did. Just make sure you read each story, go to class, and know how to write an analytical paper :)
Professor Cisler was one of my favorite professors my freshman year. She expects a lot out of her students, but she is also very helpful and will take the time to help each and every student. Attendance is mandatory and she takes attendance at the beginning of every class. Overall, expect to do a lot of work, but she will be more than helpful.
Professor Cisler is not concerned with controlling how you perceive a work but instead encourages mental exploration. If you really like reading and discussing a text DO take this class. She just wants to know that you read the text and can effectively, intelligently, and meaningfully evaluate it.
She was so so so boring, her voice will make you go to sleep. Her assigments are unclear and her teaching methods are even worse.
She's nice and you read alot but make sure you read before class an dstudy for the exams.
Cisler tries to be very helpful and give you the basics for writing essays but is a tough grader. Her hand writing is very sloppy and hard to read making it tough to understand the comments she makes on your papers.
She is a great teacher and makes the coursework as interesting as possible and as personable as possible. She is also super helpful! Get her to review any essays and you will easily get an A. Whenever she gives you a layout or overview of what she wants, follow that exactly! Do that and you are set.
She is unclear about what she expects, so when you turn something in you never know what your gonna get back. She takes her time grading things and gives shallow generic feedback. She seems really fake online. A lot of busy work.
Just read and take notes. No quizzes. Grade depends on a Midterm, Final and two literary analysis. If you like to read and write this will be an easy class!
This si my third class with Prof Cisler and I wish I could take more of her classes before I graduate.
Possibly one of the worst courses I've ever taken at ASU. Granted, I was looking for a mick class but this class had an incredibly amount of busy work. She does not emphasize proper writing skills of being clear and concise, but rather lofty and repetitive just to meet assignment requirements. Her syllabus is also intimidating and disorganized.
one of the worst teachers EVER!!! Seems fake on line and her instructions are not clear at all.
I had Professor Cisler for ENG 101 and 102. It takes a while to get to know her expectations, but if you reach out for help, you will catch on quickly. She is very helpful and is prompt in responding to emails. Go to her office hours to discuss your essay before submitting your final copy. She is very nice and not too difficult to get an A.
I really enjoyed comments that the teacher left and she was so enthusiastic and honest in her feedback to help me improve. She was great at responding back to email and discussion questions.
I loved this class, it was my first real online class and it was really hard to get used to at first, but with the help of professor Cisler, I was able to do well in the class.
This was my first official college class and Professor Cisler made it a very good way to ease myself in. The essays were easy enough but required putting a decent amount of effort/research. The professor was also very easy to communicate with; once I emailed her at 1 in the morning and I received an email back within an hour. Overall great teacher.
Online, her class is honestly awful. Her discussion boards are complicated and have numerous rules involved with posting. Her lectures, textbook and directions for projects are almost useless. Provides confusing comments for graded projects; it would say great job but the grade on the assignment would be a D+. I dropped the class to save my GPA.
I learned so much in this class and found it really interesting. It just really sucked that the assignments were so repetitive and it was quite a bit of work. Other than that I would recommend this professor. She was super helpful and the class was really well organized.
1 blog a week, and 4 projects spread out through the semester. Blogs are actually difficult and confusing, but I usually did the projects a few days before they were due. Go to her office hours and ask for help if you need it, she is very helpful and sweet. Pretty easy and straight forward. Used the book maybe 5 times, never looked at the lectures.
This professor did an excellent job of making subject matter which is usually boring seem interesting and important. I learned many valuable things from this course. A very excellent class with an exceptional professor.
This is my 6th online class and Cisler’s was the most organized and clear. I liked how she was helpful and you always knew what was expected. Not a hard class but one to stay on top of.
She isn't a great online teacher. She seems nice and knowledgeable but her online class has far too many rules. I understand the point of rules and structure, but the amount she has just makes the assignments confusing. She managed to demotivate a big time history nerd who loves to read and write. Perhaps she's better in person?
VERY hard grader. If you put forth the effort, you MIGHT get a decent grade. She's very unclear about her expectations, making it hard to get a good grade on an essay. KEEP UP WITH THE WORK. Missing small "assignments" kills your grade. She has sloppy handwriting so go into her office on review days before submitting any final draft of a paper.
Professor Cisler is the best professor I had my freshman year. She expects a lot from her students, the assignments ARE hard, but if you put the effort in you will get an easy A. She is always available to help you through email or meeting. She teaches you how to become a better writer, but assignments can be confusing and LONG. Dont procrastinate!
Lectures feel long and she grades pretty tough if you don't follow the prompt correctly. She's super helpful if you ask her for help with research or writing. 100% would take this class again even though there are easier teachers. Oh and she cancels class sometime so we can "work on our essays." During those days she offers 1:1 time to students.
Mrs. Cisler was a strict grader in the sense that she expected something to look a certain way and if it did not, you would get a low score. She did do a decent job at teaching though
While she is a tough grader, she is always willing to help. If you are struggling with your paper writing don't be afraid to meet with her during office hours. She is always ready to help you or clarify an assignment. Her expectations are high, but she is a very positive and wonderful lady. As long as you do the readings, you will have no problems!
She is a subjective grader. If she isn't interested in what you're writing about or if it is, in her opinion, not the "right way" to do it, she will grade poorly. There's a difference between writing professionally and writing according to this one textbook. Apparently this textbook is her Bible and she will have it NO other way.
Cisler was excellent about encouraging classroom discussion. She was always organized nad enthusiastic and made every class pleasant. Her expectations were clear and the class was very straightforward. I was challenged in all the right ways.
This class was great. I really enjoyed the discussion part of the class. Hands down one of the best online classes I have taken!
Be sure to ask for extra granular clarity on assignments. Any creativity or out of the box thinking will be wholly rejected and your grade will suffer. To pass this course you have to be a robot, not an individual. Also, when I was taking this class, student/professor meetings were mandatory and you'd lose points if you did not go. Lame.
Prof. Cisler is incredibly kind, she will always meet with you to get help on assignments and explains things to make them more clear. Some assignments are tough but she breaks them down so that they are easier to understand and makes sure to give you time to really do a good job. I love her and her class!
Professor Cisler is one of the nicest teachers I've ever had in college and in general. She is always willing to help students in need of assistance either through e-mail or in person. She does grade under specific and strict criteria, but she also helps you meet those criteria. Would definitely recommend to all people looking for an English prof.!
I had Cisler both freshmyn semesters although some said to avoid her. I loved her class. She taught me how to write and is always open to helping students and scheduling meetings outside of office hours. Her assignments are hard and little missed ones will screw up your grade, but she is there to help you get it up. Want to take again.
You will be expected to apply yourself and do thorough research in this course. Attendance is mandatory, but the classes are not tedious. She gives great feedback and has open office hours to discuss your work. She's the nicest lady and I would take any of her classes again.
I took ENG 102 online with Sherry and it was a piece of cake. Weekly discussion forum posts and homework with research all leading up to the final research project, no papers, no tedious work. She's the nicest lady ever and is so helpful. Would take again.
Professor Cisler is by far one of the worst teachers I have ever met. By the time we had gotten our first paper back from her, we had already turned in two more. This leaves just about zero time for you to learn how to improve your writing. Oh, and that wasn't bad enough, not having your rough draft done on "peer review dates" count as an absence.
Prof Cisler is amazing! She really shows her passion for literature, and she goes through the work so we can understand it. She is great at encouraging discussions. The only problem I have with her is that she is very slow with grading assignments. Otherwise, this class is great, and if you love literature, it is a must take! Loved this class!
I usually don't like english, but this was an amazing class with an amazing professor. Can't wait to take her again next semester!
She is such an amazing woman. Her feedback is always encouraging and sensitive to her students. There is sooo much reading and homework in this class, but as long as you meet the requirements and answer all the questions, you're good to go.
Professor Cisler is the sweetest lady ever! While her class consisted mainly of busy work, she kept me going! I did not care for her TA very much because he graded students down for the silliest things. Other than that, her class was easy! Professor Cisler has inspired me to pursue other English classes! Overall, would recommend!
Awful
Professor CIsler is a great professor. While some of her classes were bit boring, her assignments allowed me to grow as a writer. She is very willing to answer questions a student may have. She is a bit of a tough grader, but she notes on what the student can improve on in the future. Though there is a number of assignments, there are no exams.
Cisler is passionate about literature. However, she has a bad habit of saying one thing and doing another. I dislike the way she weights different assignments too. You could have perfect on the discussions, group in-class discussions, and the scholarly presentations, but if you do bad on the midterm or final exam, your grade suffers. Frustrating.
Love this teacher! So nice! Had to read alot, but its a novel class, so expected. Lectures were interesting, good book choices. Make sure to keep up with the reading. Discussions and exams, no papers. Definitely will take again!!
Rigorous course that actually taught me English in comparison to past English classes. Professor may cancel class to give opportunity to discuss drafts with her one on one. This was useful, since you could see what she is looking for and could probably receive a higher grade on it with her feedback than if you did not go to her student conferences.
Great professor and caring individual. Always asked if we had questions on an assignment and answered them clearly. Has a clear rubric for grading. No papers, just a digication project on an issue of your choice that you research for the entire semester.
Cisler gives really thorough feedback which I really appreciated. However, the class was way too detailed for being ENG101. I think she wants to make the class content harder than it should be so I didn't take her for ENG 102. Overall, a good professor though it's just the grading I didn't love.
If I had the chance to pick another professor, I would. During lectures, she gets off topic a bit and includes things that are not important. The assignments we had were honestly time consuming. She asks too many follow up questions and does a lot of follow-up assignments which did not benefit me at all. Save yourself the trouble.
Cisler is one of my favorite teachers I've ever had. English has always been one of my hardest subjects, and I appreciate howeasy and simple the class was. She is also very understanding and kindhearted. If I could, I would have taken her for ENG 101 as well. What an amazing semester!
I greatly enjoyed this course. I loved all the readings and feel like I am a better person now because of the quality and variety of perspectives that I was exposed to.
I loved the subject matter and the books in this class. Prof. Cisler is nice and helpful and you can get a good grade pretty easily. My only complaint is that I wish there had been more to the class than just discussions every week and I didn't like the tests. I think for this class a paper would've made more sense. Tests aren't too hard though!
The professor herself is very uplifting and positive. The course work, you will read 3 books (short), and will be tested on identifying quotes, author, book/articles. She lets you know in advance how the test will be. Two tests (midterm/final), NOT MULTIPLE CHOICE, you have to type your answers, but she gives you 1-2hrs. Discussion every week.
Lots of reading and lots of discussion posts. The (3) books were interesting but I didn't like the short stories. Midterm and Final exams were awful. I didn't feel like it matched the course work and was difficult in the allotted time given. Her class wasn't my favorite but it is an ok choice if you need extra ENG credits.
Prof Cisler was a wonderful instrustor and did a great job adjusting to the pandemic situation. I love taking classes with her. She seems excited to teach about course content, provides great feedback for assignments, and creates interesting conversation in the classroom.
She is really nice. Super easy going class and not a lot of papers or assignments. Attendance is mandatory or you lose points.
She is a very sweet professor. Every freaking point matters in her class. You gotta show up or you won't pass. Only wrote 3 papers but lots of supplemental writing assignments that matters. If you like writing and wanted to be challenged this class is for you. If not, I would choose another prof.
I appreciate this professor's intentions, but the execution of them was not right. Prepare A LOT for midterm and exam because it is extensive despite having a time limit. Prepared to read whole books (1 book per two weeks) and write essay-long discussion posts. I didn't like her tests at all, and she came off as a harsh grader for me.
I didn't expect to feel so connected to the content but I absolutely loved this course, readings, and lectures. Prof. Cisler is a fabulous instructor, and I felt fully immersed in my learning experience (even though online, which has been very rare). I also appreciated that the prof provided many of the readings--this was EXTREMELY appreciated!
Such a sweet and understanding professor! Only had about three assignments, and even had an entire week off when they were due. She was a little vague with her feedback and attendance is mandatory, however I would definitely take her again.
The grading makes no sense
Professor Cisler is the best professor that I have ever had. I took her course about Western literature last semester and liked it so much that I decided to take this course. She makes learning interesting and is a really nice and understanding person.
Weekly essays and group work is every 2 weeks or so but she gives enough time to actually complete the assignments that it isn't an issue. She also prepares you for the essay itself instead of just giving you a prompt and letting you do your own thing.
If u want an easy A, look for another professor. We had 3 major papers & many additional assignments (assigned over weekends). If u don't have great time management or are busy on weekends, look elsewhere. The assignments weren't hard, but expect to go to the writing center for help because she is very vague with her instructions, tips, & rubrics
Prof.Cisler was such a delight to be around! Her energy is so welcoming, and she just is such a good person. She's very clear on what she wants in her papers, so stick to the prompt and rubric and set up meetings with her to go over stuff. A lot of assignments, but they all add up to one big paper. Easy to reach outside of class. Love her!
Easy class in general, but missing one class can drop you a letter grade. Random little, but heavily weighted assignments each week and lots of group work. If you're looking for an easy A this is NOT the professor for it. Otherwise, she's very sweet if you do the bare minimum.
Cisler is a caring professor. The class is manageable, with a focus on a research project instead of papers. Attendance is mandatory, but the grading makes sense. unstuck AI was a great study aid.
I definitely would not recommend this professor, especially for an online class. She is a really tough grader with super unclear guidelines/rubrics. The class was set up in a pretty confusing way and required an overwhelming amount of time. That being said, I can tell that she cares about students and would always give good feedback on assignments.
Cisler is honestly one of my favorite teachers this semester. I was kinda nervous about taking a writing class, but they made it way less stressful. They're really supportive and actually care about how you're doing, which makes a huge difference. Would totally take them again!
