Great Instructor
Dont take in maymester!! Too much work. The class is also a bit new-agey.. Otherwise a good professor.
Teaches the class as empowerment sessions.

Mrs. Rhodes is very intelligent and does an fine job at explaining communication and the psychology of commuication very well. Her only faults are when she gets off topic to discuss her very personal conflicts and experiences, most often it gets annoying
Good teacher... Very interesting. She tries to make it fun and not so scary to give a speech. Recommened... p.s., great to have for maymester or wintermester
Uh, not really great for may/wintermester because she gives an almost impossible project fot that amount of time. Good professor, although she teaches the class like its self-help time.
She was extremely nice and helpful. She does tend to talk about herself alot, espcially in the beginning, but is gets better. It did seem like she waited until the last two or three weeks to give us the projects (I had her in summer II) but they weren't hard. I would totally recommend the class.
She makes you feel great not only about yourself but also about the class... It's FREE COUNSELING... But you have an 11 page paper due before the class is over but it's easier than you think... She is the best teacher for Speech by far
Nice woman. Funny. Full of interesting stories. Overall easy. Loads of homework towards the end of the class. Grades easy. There aren't many speech teachers better than her I think, she's very helpful, patient, and will work with you. Got an A.
Yeah, if you enjoy self help hippie crap, her class is for you. Very chicken soup for the soulish. Gives an absolutely absurd project during may/wintermester, and grades it pretty harshly. Speeches aren't that bad though.
She is one of the most caring instructor that I have had on the SCC campus. She is very understanding, and excellent instructor, and very intellegent. She will explain everything in full detail, and will be more that glad to answer any questions before she moves on to the next chapter.
She is an excellent teacher. You will learn how to really effectively communicate with people all ages. For those who are having problems with their child/children, she will help you with that problem. A know that you will be amazed at her teachings. She is very inspiring and you will not regret taking her class at all.
She told me to "think inside the box" when I disagreed with a THEORY!!!! Easy grade, but the her stories can get annoying as the semester wears on.
Her projects are difficult- and in groups. ugh. it's no wonder she is also a hypnotizer on the side because she put me to sleep in her class. otherwise nice teacher
I had her a long time ago...hmm lets say Spring 2002. She had us watch a movie "Pay It Forward" and do our finally speech over that. I thought it was a pretty cool idea at first then it got really annoy and so I finally made something up. Is she still doing this?
she still does the pay it forward project which is ultimately a waste of time with the all the work involved. her speeches seem easy but she grades hard. test are hard and are impossible to get an A on. shes an interesting person but not a good beginning speech teacher.
very respectful of students, wants everyone to leave the class at the end that comes in handy later. loved her class. only 3 five minutes speeches required. not hard at all
A very balanced prof. If you pay attention and study you'll get a good grade, easy as that. Pay it Forward project is really time consuming and difficult, but rewarding. Our final exam was a group skit, utilizing skills we learned in class. You learn a lot about human nature that applies to reallife
Pr. Rhodes is a nice teacher and has a lot of stories to tell. My friend and I would count how many times she would tell a story and it added up to about 14 times every class time. She still does the pay it forward project which I think it is for a good cause but a very long project. Her tests are really hard and you must read from the book to pass
This class has little to do with speeches (you only do 2) a lot of self help and feel better things. Too much work with the service project and then final exam was a group skit! Hope that works out for you better than for me! Only two tests not that hard, but takes some studying!

Has many stories to tell. She still does the pay it foward project (which is the majority of your grade. It can decide if you pass or not). You have two test and speeches that are not hard and the final.
sherry rhodes is an awesome lady she is down to earth and very helpful likes to tell you about how successful she is and worth listening and will take care of you in this class highly recommend taking this class
Mrs. Rhodes is a wonderful teacher with a very bubbily personality. The only thing bad is she is real strict on attendance if you miss 5 classes or more it will bring your average down a grade point

i had Sherry Rhods back in 2005 and i still to this day use and think about what she taught me. im not a test person and that is why i liked how she did her class.
This professor came highly recommended and I'm still scratching my head as to why. We only did two speeches but the ridiculous "Pay It Forward" project is time consuming and inane. Also, her tests are written so poorly and seemed to be designed to trick you. Not my cup of tea.
Goofy, yet fun. Still makes you do a 'Pay It Forward' project, which seems to have nothing to do with the class in my opinion, but it's not hard. Be careful when studying for the test. Make sure you know actual examples of each definition term, i.e. Mary told Sally this and Sally said this...whats this an example of.
The assignments were probably only as difficult as they were because of trying to balance work, kids and school. Sherry was very easy to communicate with, in person, on the phone, by e-mail or Web CT. I don't think I ever waited 24 hours for a response. She is very enthusiastic about her subject matter. PS: This was an online course.
This was an online section. There were five required on-site nights. Speeches weren't hard except for balancing w/ the rest of my schedule. Sherry was excellent at communicating w/ students. I contacted her in person, by e-mail and by WebCT. I don't think I ever had to wait as long as 24 hrs for a response.
Highly recommended! She is AWESOME! I was so scared to take speech, but she was great at making the class feel comfortable. Her stories are funny and the speeches are not hard at all. I learned so much from this class and if you are scared to take speech, she is the one to take it from! I can't say enough positive things about her.
The final (testing center test) was ridiculous. The study guide was useless and there was no class discussion of the questions on the final. Plan for a 50. Overall if you follow the instructions you will do OK even if you get a 50 on the final and even if you are terrified when giving speeches (as were 1/2 of our class).
there are 2 speeches that are really easy. she makes you feel comfortable and loves to talk. she also enjoys excessively discussing all of her accomplishments in life and how much of an inspiration she es to everyone.
She was so sweet i absolutely love this lady always made me feel comfortable. i was going through some health problems and she was always willing the help me cope with them. the sweetest lady i know. she still does pay it foward but it no so bad. I could see how it would suck if you hated helping people. only 2 easy speaches she helps you alot
Very cool proffesors. She makes it fun.
She assigns a ridiculously long project that has nothing to do with speaking that is 25% of your grade. she has very conservative views that if it were up to her, you would share after participating in her class. sucking up helps you keep your grade up.
Her class was fun. She is a good communicator and makes you not so nervous to be up in front of the class giving a speech. Speech topics were fun. I didn't personally like doing the group project at the end of the semester.
Wonderful lady! Always laughing.
Very nice lady, good class, though quite a bit of work for the summer term.
Very inconsiderate instructor i had in collin county community college..but she know her stuff.tests are really hard and you have to go and take in testing center. Her assignments are confusing too..and very long.i would recommend to take some one else
Amazing lady. So funny and can really open up your outlook on communication. Tests take effort, but worth the experience. Fun time.
I would honestly avoid this class. It's just a required credit for your undergraduate degree and not worth the amount of work she expects you to do. The "Pay It Forward" project is intrusive. A student should not be expected to delve into their personal life for any professor. If you're taking a full load avoid this class. Too much BUSY work.
Professor Rhodes is one of the nicest, most knowledgeable professors in this college. She makes you feel comfortable giving speeches, and is HILARIOUS! She does give a bit of work, but nothing that isn't doable if you don't procrastinate! I highly recommend her!
Very nice lady. Her laugh is contagious! :) Pay it forward project is very time consuming, but not difficult and very much worth it. Tests are tricky but over all very fair class and great teacher!
She is a VERY nice lady. however her lectures will put you to sleep. This class seems to last all day long and for the first 2 months all you will do is take countless pages of notes.
i have been at Collin for 2 years. This is the worst prof i have ever had!
BEWARE OF THIS TEACHER! CLASS IS MORE OF A SELF HELP COUNSELING SESSION! PAY IT FORWARD PROJECT(11PGS) WHICH IS THE MOST NON SENSE BUSY WORK THAT I HAVE EVER BEEN ASSIGNED TO DO. GIVES OTHER ASSIGNMENTS THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ASPECT OF SPEECH WHAT SO EVER. WAY TOO CONCERNED ABOUT STUDENTS PERSONAL LIFE. DOESN'T INVOLVE STUDENTS IN CLASS.
if you can get her, get her. she is the best teacher i have ever had. she makes you want to attend class, and tests are open book and notes, plus she has a review for the test. if you attend class this is an easy A. and her assignments are life changing.
i just finished taking her class for the summer and there was too much work within too little time especially for a beginners speech class. the tests were tricky even though it was open book and notes. i've had friends that took putman, warren or carlson and they said it was much easier than what this teacher asks for. she talks alot too.
i think its incoherent for people to say her assignments are life changing with the pay it forward project. if people would simply take out the time from their narcissistic lives and do right to and for others than the world would be better. it shouldnt take an assignment for people to realize that. busy work and a very long essay but its whatever.
I have no idea why people are giving rude comments about this woman. She is amazing so far.. and makes all of our assignments understandable. I am so glad that I'm taking her.
Mrs. Rhodes is an awesome teacher! I am taking her for the "online" speech class. I was def nervous about taking an online class for speech. You only have to go to class to give your speeches, never recieved below an A on one. Easy, easy class as long as you do the work! EASY A!
A professor who thinks she is an inspirational speaker. Gives awful projects that count too much of a students grade for how much they are related to the class. Don't take this professor if you don't like someone preaching to you. Also uses too many extremely depressing stories as examples. Avoid if you prefer being happy.
The tests were pretty hard and the Pay It Forward project was very tough, but Mrs. Rhodes was a great teacher and I enjoyed learning in her class and listening to what she had to say!
Professor Rhodes is AWESOME!!! Tests are hard; Pay It Forward project seems overwhelming but she makes it so much fun! I took XPRS for 3 weekends and her stories made time fly by! Not a lot of speeches; more a communication skills class...TAKE HER EVEN IF IT'S JUST FOR THE EXPERIENCE!
This lady is amazing. her stories bring a grown man to tears. she is the best prof i have ever had. life changing and inspiring
She truly is life changing and inspiring. Her project helped me get closer to my sister that I have never gotten along with. She understands peoples' fear of speaking and is very helpful. Her class is more about relationships with others and how you can be the best person you can be. Yes she does tell a lot of amazing stories too. RECOMMEND!
The tests are really hard, and the Pay It Forward project is too... but otherwise she is pretty easy and her stories make the class interesting and enjoyable. I would recommend her
You do learn a lot in this class and she is interesting. One big turnoff was many of her stories were embellished and came off as insincere as a result and that is something I can't stand even though I understood why she was doing it (to show how to and keep interest). However, she is very insightful and caring and I benefited from attending.
took speech w/her & it wasnt what i expected, it was better. im not a fan of givin speeches but she made the topics easy & fun plus there were only 2 or 3 speeches total & shes an easy grader. this is somewhat of a relationship class; improves ur communication w/others. great if ur openminded & interested in improvin ur life
This class was a waste of time. yes, i made an A easy, but she dragged out the semeseter unnecessarily. She wouldn't stop telling stories, and telling the same stories over and over. take her if ur ready to be bored to death. but easy A
She made the speeches very easy and if you are horrible at speeches take her! The tests are take home and open note. You have weeks to do them. The final is a group project which can make or break you. Do the service project in advance!!
GREAT TEACHER! classes can be kind of long because she reads off powerpoint, however her tests are take home and multiple choice. her FINAL exam is a GROUP presentation. She is nice and fun and cares about her students. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! (:
Professor Rhodes was the best professor. I took her express class and although the classes were long, she made the time go by so fast. She has amazing stories and she makes the lectures interesting. She is so funny and easy going. She focuses a lot on communication with others and yourself. I learned so much in her class and I was sad to see it end
I took her express Fall 2010 class.Getting A was not difficult. Class was extremely boring if you want to listen to her make up stories you can join her. She doesn't show interest in listening to other people's but dont' get tired repeating her makeup stories.
Professor Rhodes loves what she does and it shows in her teaching. If you have trouble communicating with others and need skills resolving conflicts peaceably then this is your course and your instructor. She really is AWESOME!!
Her tests are hard, and not take home. Only two speeches that are quite simple. On the other hand, the amounts of work for the projects are ridiculous. Not an easy A at all. This class is a little about speech, and tons about self-help. I wouldn't recommend.
Her classes have nothing to do with fundamentals of speech communication. It is a majors class with a ton of work. If you are looking for a easy a you wont get one. If you are looking for a class to make you work and put all of your other classes on hold, then take her. I got an A, but many of my other classes suffered.
Dont take this teacher if you are looking for an easy speech credit. There's a ton of work, including an 11 page single spaced paper. She also treats the class as if everyone taking it is majoring in communications, not taking it for the basic credit. Nice teacher, but expects way too much for non majors and wouldn't recommend.
Her expectations are ridiculous. 11 page single spaced paper (22 pages). Two 50 question tests which she says you will fail if you don't study for over 5 hours per test. Two speeches. Group final which you will have too meet with ppl outside of class then perform a skit. Her stories are fake and she tries to act like a motivational speaker. Avoid.
very forcy & difficult to deal with.woman activist with strings attached.she interrupts though a speech professor. She is unreasonable with her demands. Single space no matter how many pages. Don't take her if you have other classes or another life - just an advice.
This professor loves what she teaches and believes in it. Assignments are detailed and not for slackers. However if you can follow directions, turn in papers on time & come to class, you will do fine. Took this prof for Maymester class & while it was a lot of work, it was neither impossible nor unreasonable. She makes herself available to help
Yes, you will have to work hard in her class because she requires you to do more assignments than other speech classes. Take a look at the faculty website, and check out the syllabus for yourself before you commit to this class. It's not a good idea to take in the summer, Maymester, or Wintermester because you are expected to do all the work.
I am glad I waited till the end to do this. Took her for summer. Most of my time was put toward this class, because she does require a lot of work. She is a good person though, and does try to help. She tends to get a bit cliche at times, and if you don't have a lot of issues going on in your life, the final paper will be hard...I am glad I stayed.
She is a good teacher no doubt. However, this class requires lots of writing, more than speech because of the 'pay it forward' assignment which is 25% of the grade. For two multiple choice tests, you must read the book and powerpoints more than one time. Overall, it was a bit tough taking it in the summer.
She's a good teacher & tells personal stories and experiences. I took the summer-mester which was way too crammed. I would recommend this professor but during a regular semester. You need to really dive in and read the book and listen and take notes. I got an A but worked my butt off for it. If you're a slacker, you won't like her.
Web blended summer class. Rhodes is great. Passionate about students, clear in expectations, quick to answer questions. I was very nervous about speech, but it wasn't too bad. She doesn't put too many points towards delivery so if you write it well, you can still do well even if you can't get the delivery down. The group project at the end was fun.
I am enjoying this class tremendously. I am taking her blended class, most of it is online with 5 class meetings throughout the semester. I love the activities she has us do and the ways she has us do discusions to get to know our classmates. There are only two speeches which I am so thankful for, I detest speaking in public...she makes it easier.
Excellent speaker, fun, and easy going when it comes to your speech subjects. Will not allow inflammatory subject matter, so if you can't give a speech without ticking people off, don't bother taking her class. Give good constructive criticism and will work with you! Highly recommend!
She is such a kind professor and will care for you as her student, if you let her. She is such a great teacher. There were only 2 speeches we had to make the entire semester. She assigns a lot of written work, which is weird. One thing I did not like was that we were always discussing emotions/feelings. It was strange. Over all it was a good class.
I hate speech but I LOVED this professor. She is very understanding of the fear of speaking. She is helpful and even guides you through your speech. She is funny and explains her expectations thoroughly. She has inspiring stories as well. My class was blended so the time we spend giving speeches was miniscule, only one speech a month, great for me!
Overall it was a good class. I wasn't a huge fan of the Service project we had to do, it was a lot of writing, personally I would have preferred to give more speeches, since we only gave 2. You will need your textbook for the tests.
I highly recommend this professor. She is the sweetest lady and she always uses relative examples when discussing topics. Her lectures are very entertaining. I suggest stopping by her office once if you do take this course, she really cares for her students that show initiative. You will need the text book for tests.
Hard to get "points," gives a better grade to the ones she favors. Lectures are about her stories. Be careful when choosing your group because they can fail you. This class is not about SPEECH! The "work" takes the learning aspect from this class. Wouldn't Recommend!
I dreaded her class. She is a teacher who wants to make a difference in her students life. Most assginments in the class were group work. Watch out because group work may fail you. Their were only 2 speeches and 2 test which were fairly easy. Her acutally assignemnts are very time consuming. Im just happy this class is coming to a end.
Stated what she wanted from the assignment, but left out details that she later counted off points for. Her stories are interesting, but the second half of the semester is then crammed into just a few weeks. The class had more busy work than needed. and unlike most straightforward classes, you really have to "dance" for a decent grade.
If you want to work you butt off for a grade that makes you feel cheated, if you want unclear instructions, if you want to sit and wonder why are you haven't dropped out of college yet this is the class for you! I wish I knew before hand how unfulfilling this class is compared to the amount of effort I put in. Count off for "fillers" in your speech
I took her class for summer I, so attendance was mandatory. She was a fairly easy grader but she had a lot of busy work! There were only 2 speeches for the semester and both were easy. it is not an easy A, you have to work for it.
I love Professor Rhodes. She is such a fun, nice lady! The skills you learn in this class can really help you with any relationship/conflict you run into. Expect to have to do work because you are in college, but it's nothing hard. She gives extra credit and time in class to work on assign projects.
Nicest professor ever! Her lectures may be a bit dull but what she teaches is very useful and truly effective in real life. Some of the projects do take time but if you follow directions it is easy to get a good grade on them. 2 online tests that are fairly easy and she gives a lot of extra credit.
Her projects have nothing to do with speech in my opinion. She is a very nice lady but very boring. Her lectures are boring and doesnt let you use your phone. Her test are easy if you look at the study guide and plus she only has 2. Easy teacher but boring. I totally bsed that class
you will have 3 group projects and 1 of them will be your final. the group project are hard and she takes off points for silly little things. the tests are online and really hard. She changes due dates on assignments but doesn't tell you. if you want to pass this class u have to ask her ?'s in person. hard class for an intro class.
This class was not what I expected. It was more about the touchy, feel-good communication rather than public speaking. You can print her powerpoints which is helpful but you still better take good notes and read the book to pass. She is a tough grader and a bit nit picky. But if you show her you are trying, she will give you better grades.
Professor Rhodes was one of my favorite teachers so far! If you show up to class, participate and do the work you will definitely get an A! People complain about her lectures not having anything to do with Speech Communication and I agree but I enjoyed her stories and I learned a lot of valuable things that I use in everyday life now. Love her!
I thought overall Professor Rhodes was a good professor. Every now and then she would tell life stories that apply to what she was teaching that day in class, and I really appreciated that. She's also really nice and fun. If you just do the work, you will do fine in the class.
This class was too much within 3 weeks. I'm taking this class with chem 1, bio 2, cal 1 & government and the workload for speech is more than these classes combined. Her tests are difficult. She's so picky she takes off points for the smallest things. Didn't feel like a speech class. Her class consisted of basically all stories. Semi-hard class.
Prof. Rhodes is a very nice and upbeat lady. She should be more concerned with the speech aspect. The class is not helpful on what you think would be relevant speechs only 2. Take the class just choose a different professor .
Professor Rhodes is a sweet lady and has lots of funny stories to tell. The problem is that she is the chair of an organization against violence towards women and makes us go to such events as part of our grade. Not related to speech! Service oriented project based on how much it "changed your life" pretty much more praise better grade. Unethical
I took her for Express class. worst decision i ever made. she made us stay the entire class time all 8 hours. she took away half my participation because my phone went off in class. managed to make an 89.9 and she wouldn't curve it to an A... highly NOT recommend her! terrible teacher!!
I got an A in her class but that doesn't matter she was the most hardest speech teacher. I don't like speech and this class made it worse. I took her express class She had us do a 6 page essay, 3 speeches. She didn't even teach about speech she told stories all the time. I would not take her again because the workload was ridiculous.
I am so grateful to have had her as my professor. Participate and do the work required, you will do great! Her lectures are amazing, full of heart and are in relation to real life. Inspirational, respectful, and helpful. I feel she has made a big difference to my life! She is the best and goes out of her way to help. I highly recommend her!! :)
I DREADED taking Speechbut I ended up loving this class! Prof. Rhodes is an amazing woman who makes this course so fun, and I learned a lot. She actually taught us techniques that are helpful in real life when giving speeches. For those afraid-just 2 speeches, a group skit that was super fun, and communication skills for real life! Take her!!!!
Shes awesome! very upbeat, tells lots of stories. Online midterm, in class exam. 1 group presentation, 1 group peer evaluation presentation. in class labs. attend 2 collin events. NOT A SPEECH HEAVY CLASS. she makes public speaking not so scary. very understandable. pick good people for group work cuz theres a LOT of it. Would take her again!!
Very nice but a tough grader, tells lots of stories with her lecture. 2 tough tests, harshly graded group research project/ speech with lots of work, 2 Collin events outside of class, a couple short assignments (labs) service orientation project and a peer review speech. Offers small extra credits. Takes role for a grade as well as participation.
DO NOT TAKE HER !!!!!!!!!!!! Rude..... Do not care about student. Not explain anything and not teaching. She think she is so funny. I do not who gaves her rating I think she post her rating on R M P becuase none of what people said is true. I read those and took with her I saw half of it was lie. Please DO NOT TAKE HER.................!!!!!!!!!!!!
Take her if you want to hear personal stories for a whole semester. Completely regret taking this course. Almost everything is done in groups, and she is vague about the instructions and grading criteria until 2-3 days before it's due. We went over maybe 20% of what are on the exams in class. She is rude and ridiculously harsh with grading. BEWARE
Grading criteria is not clear at all. VERY VERY HARSH GRADER. She will find something to take points off for. If you hate group work, this class isn't for you. You have to rely on others for part of your grade. She is very rude and inconsiderate. I am so excited to be done with this class. Save yourself and your GPA by finding another professor.
At first I thought she was really nice and that the instructions for all the assignments would be clear because she has tons of instructions on blackboard, but NO. You literally have to take extra notes on her instructions during class and even then she takes off points for things she never mentioned. SUPER HARSH GRADING!!!! RIDICULOUS. BEWARE.
This was an easy speech class! Show up to class or you won't pass. I watched other students get burned by not showing up but that's their fault! She will email back if you aren't certain on instructions. The final is a group project. But she is key on making sure that your grade is not effected by others who don't do their part. *BE IN CLASS*
I would not recommend her at all....!!!!
I took a blended web course. Bummed about the group project (replaces final) - I did most of the work but my grade didn't reflect it. Prof. is a nice lady & doesn't give long lectures. Online tests are easy. Her grading criteria are a bit confusing, especially on group project. Super strict about citations. Very organized with detailed syllabus.
Professor Rhodes is one of the best professors I had here. She's very clear about the material and grading. Participation and attendance matters, there is a group project. You will need to give a presentation at the end of the semester, and as a person who is usually terrified of public speaking I found that it was easy this time. Would take again
I have a 3.7 GPA and this was a very stressful class for me. its very frustrating when you follow her detailed grading criteria and still get points knocked off for the smallest things that she never mentioned. This class was a lot of work. And a lot of group work. Not fun to depend on other people for your grade. I would not recommend her
I took Professor Rhodes this summer, exams weren't difficult (2 exams, both multiple choice) but the group project it A LOT of work & you have to do a presentation at the end with your group, as well as a 2 minute speech solo. She's a tough grader but gives very clear instructions and can be reached easily if you have questions
Professor Rhodes is a very tough grader so be extra careful with the work you actually turn in. Online test are pretty easy as long as you read the book. There are two big projects due one which you have to interact outside of class, while the other is a group project. You will have to give quiet a bit of speeches but just relax its not that hard.
AMAZING TEACHERS! great lectures.
She's such a great person! This class teaches you really useful communication skills. There are open book and note quizzes and the book can be checked out in the library. Lots of group work, but not too bad. Lots of lectures, but they're entertaining.
She's a bit annoying at times and may often seem a bit self righteous, but her heart is kind of in the right place. Beware the massive final two projects crammed in at the end. The are difficult, time consuming, and extremely stressful.
She was kind of disorganized. When it came to the rubric for the group project at the end of the semester, it was not clear at all. It left a lot of people kind of guessing what she wanted. Even if you asked her in person it was still vague. Her lectures are interesting, but she is a tough grader. She does grade for participation so be in class.
Spends lots of class time telling personal stories. Requires attendance for out-of-class events which may conflict with your schedule. These events are a part of her campus organization and it does not relate to the subject of speech. Biggest grade is a group project. My group had the pseudo-scientific subject of "heart-brain coherence."
highly suggest taking her!! shes super underrated. Her class not only was easy to do well in but she taught me so much about relationships and how to communicate. I felt like I was in a counseling class. She is awesome and makes the class easy to enjoy. definitely take her.
I took her class as an express course. She's kind and caring. She offers TONS of extra credit. Her class is interesting. The only problem I had with the class was that if you were in a bad group your grade suffered. Exams are online. Presentation was work intensive because of the express course. Got a 99(extra credit is key she offers a TON!!!!)
I took her speech class but we only presented once and it was a group presentation. There are two major projects but they are long so don't wait to till the last minute. We had two multiple choice tests online and you can do it at home open book with 50 questions in 3 hours. Her class may seem easy but there are a lot to do. She is very passionate.
she is nice and her lectures are interesting but she is a very tough grader. But i personally would not recommend
Took her wintermester class, and there was a lot of work! Even though the exams are online, the main factor for grade comes from her projects, and they are tedious and she grades hard. So if you mess up on the projects, you lose a lot of points! Besides that, she is a nice person and she does show interest in teaching communication to her students!
so I took this class in the wintermester (2 weeks) yes you have to do a 6 page paper and god knows how many projects, but this professor is really inspirational, if you like stories take this professor (80%of the classes is stories that relate to the material) and ONLINE TESTS!!!! As long as you show up and give half effort you will do fine.
I loved her class. I took it as an express class and she really tried to teach about life. The presentations were easy
good prof. Not boring. ALWAYS PUT URSELF IN GOOD GROUPS IF YOUR IN SLACKER GROUP MOVE SEATS THE NEXT TIME. tests are online i would honestly just rent out the book for the test because some of the answers are there. Go to the Collin library and rent it out for two hours and get a study room. OH AND DO EXTRA CREDIT.
Professor Rhodes is a truly kind and respected instructor. My only stipulation is that she is extremely specific on assignments and how they are to be turned in. I would get points taken off for things that she failed to mention. Very discouraging, I only recommend this course to those who excel in groups. Tests are relatively easy.
Amazing, relevant lectures while letting you take notes from the projector out of the book/canvas at your own pace. She uses clear grading criteria, is extremely respectful & kind. She constantly offers extra credit & wants you to pass. The tests online were open book. Hard for a prof to care about every student she meets, but she does a great job.
Overall great teacher. She believes in some strange stuff, and you have to do a project on it, but I did it just for the grade and only payed attention to what I needed to know and nothing more. Learns everyone's names. Friendly atmosphere. Tons of Extra Credit, and easy grader.
No work for the first 2 months then there are two projects due the last month which was a bit stressful. lectures are great and she teaches well. There is a ton of extra credit.
Engaging lectures. Cares about her students & wants them to pass. Offers lots of extra credit. Gets off-topic sometimes, so it's your job to stay focused on taking notes. Used the book sparingly in class, definitely a must-have for quizzes/tests. End of sem was group project & it was a slog even though it helped me learn to present to an audience.
Professor Rhodes was awesome! This class is so much more than just your basic speech class if you take the assignments seriously. I loved it and I am already using several of the techniques she taught us.
This class only becomes difficult and extremely stressful if you procrastinate. She's actually a good choice. TIP! Make sure you do your essays before they are due!!!! She will check them before it's due, and tell you what to correct, which will pretty much give you an automatic 100. Labs are a peice of cake. Put yourself in the right groups!!
Extremely unfair when grading and fails to mention anything when it's due. Professor Rhodes is nice and all but her projects are beyond unfair and she grades extremely hard. 0/10 would never take again
Professor Rhodes class is wonderful! She is very sweet, kind and does set reasonable expectations for her students. Attending class is important- will often discuss important info in class that will not be on canvas. Luckily, she does give open note easy exams, but MUST read. TONS of extra credit. Will be expected to present at the end of semester.

I shouldn't even call this a speech class, a majority of the curriculum is not about speech at all. Yet our final project is to give a speech? This class is a joke
This class is very straightforward and easy. She gives so much extra credit that its very hard to not get an A if you do it all. For assignments just follow the clear instructions as listed in her power points and example sheets. There are 2 open book exams, assignments, and only 1 group speech. Seriously this class is an easy A. Get the book.
If you take her online class be prepared to be punished for her own short comings. She lacks communication w/students & assignment expectations & due dates are unclear. Reaching out to her directly does not provide solution to problems either. She is nice, but unprepared to teach an online course and is super unorganized. Easy class, bad teacher.
