She is funny and nice, but sometimes her assignments are hard. She really wants you to pass the class and feels it is her fault if you don't. Remember to always attend class because she takes attendance by in class assignments. She always giving assignments so do not miss class. Plus she blast the a/c and her classroom is always cold.

She is soo nice and she a good teacher. When it comes to reading novels, she does a good ass job explaining to her students what the novel is about. all i have to say is that shes great and i recommend her to yall!

She is nice and her class isnt hard. You have to read two books in a semester but she goes over the book in class, her lectures are helpful. If you actually read the books and go to class, the homework and quizzes will be easy!
She is an amazing teacher! She can be hard at times and requires reading two novels and several homework sets but if you do it all with detail and put in effort you will get a good grade in the class. Learned a lot from her, so take her class!
She is super easy. However, she's really shady with wait list. If her class is completely full she won't even except you if your #1 on the list. So good luck if your on the waitlist.. get a plan b english class forsure because she's shady with it.
I had her for 102L so it wasn't that bad. She hates it when people talk in class since we are supposed to read and do assignments the entire class period. If you talk she will probably move you to another table. If you need help or have questions just ask her and she is always willing to explain the assignments in the book to you.
I love how this professor is so clear in everything! She is easy as long as you do the work! I so recommend her for Eng classes
I thought this teacher was funny. I had her for my MW 9:15am class. She is very helpful and when you ask her questions, she will tell you the answer. She gives out a lot of extra credit so make sure you do them if you want to pass the class.
Miss Lim is very strict with the formatting of submitted papers. I was a bit hesitant to ask questions after she sarcastically answered one of my earlier questions, but she was helpful. My advice is to listen what she says not how she says it. I did all but one of extra credit assignments and passed the final exam. Somehow, I ended up with an “A.”
Miss. Lim's class is fairly easy. Make some effort and you should get an A-B grade. She is more than willing to help students with any questions. Strict with how she wants the submitted papers formatted, but she gives clear instructions so it's no biggie. She wants everyone to pass her class and makes it easy to do so. I recommend her!
If you're too lazy to read everything I'm about to write, just take her class! She's amazing. Now if you continued reading, shes a great teacher. She tells you everything that you need to pass the class with flying colors from the get go. She also gives plenty of extra credit if you need it. Just go and take her class! You won't regret it.
Great teacher! Novel assignment gets posted right away so you have a couple of months to read and submit work, she will tell you how to improve and re submit work. Easy work and a lot of time to do. Does offer extra credit. You have to remember to check moodle and your email or you will miss assignments. Most assignments are online.

Miss Lim's lectures are the best. She's one of my favorite person. An awesome teacher, always helping even she'll help with other eng assignments for eg: she helped me in my essays and i got a good grade on it :D. Everyone loves her. She is the best!
Shes an amazing teacher
Mr.s Lim is one of the best teachers at EVC. First, Mrs. Lim is the type of teacher that is funny and helps her students become successful in passing her class. Also, she would go over the directions again if we didn't understand the material. Overall, the workload isn't bad as long as you show up to her class everyday ready to learn and read.
Miss. Lim is one of the best professors Ive had, she does give out a lot of homework but she does give plenty of time for one to finish. Make up work is always accepted, but I would highly recommend that you would take time off work if you have the time to, just because her homework does require plenty of time.
I took miss Lim about 4 times for different english classes! Shes great and lets you make up work and gives extra credit! Also very funny and interesting novels. I recommend students to read the novels early because you need to understand well whats going on
Best English Professor for many reason. Her kindness is encouraging and motivating for all to do better, Teaching methods easy to learn, interesting and helpful for improvements.
Although she's a great, funny, and kind professor, she has a tendency to not respond to your emails. Also, there are times when she would not post assignments on the day she promised.
Sherryanne Lim is an ok teacher, she never replies to emails for starters and shes never on time. She will assign you a whole bunch if assignments towards the end of the semester last minute when their is two weeks left of class. You can do this extra credit paper she gives so if you didnt do good on the final youll still pass which is false.
I had her for English1A online and was the toughest class I have taken so far. She assigns a lot of homework last minute and makes you do 2 or more discussion forums and writing activities per week. She assigns a one time opportunity extra credit so be sure to do it. Keep in mind she doesn't respond to your emails right away.
Again..... she assigns a huge load of assignments and works the last minute. If you are late be prepared for it(to loose points). 4 books to reada and more articles. 8 essays then we have discussions etc... You can take this class if you are taking only one or two class per smester. else DO NOT TAKE IT.
Mrs. Lim is a decent teacher. I had her for English 1A . You literally can do the bare minimum to get an A. Although her class is easy she assigns so many assignments that are so time-consuming for no reason at all. Her assignments become repetitive and her essays are always on the same topic. Doesn't really grade hard, just too much workload

I'm doing great in ENGL 1B now because of Miss Lim's help. She's a good teacher.
Other reviews mention the last-minute assignments, and with the online class, it's entirely because she manually updates Canvas, so you get delays and surprises, in the *middle of the week,* that you then need to cram. Just schedule the publishing of assignments like every other instructor so I can see what's happening and *truly* manage my time!
This is a college level class. Challenging but doable.
The English1A class is repetitive. Everything is summarizing. Summarize every book chapter and call it an essay seven times. Doesn't actually grade papers, she assigns students to do it for her. Posting last-minute assignments to Canvas late in the day make it difficult to manage time. No sense of urgency for her students. Difficult to reach.
WORST professor I have ever had,NEVER take her class anymore in my life. She never replies to emails,no ways to contact her in her online class. There're all irrelevant assignments+lectures which don't contribute to final papers and do not provide you with any useful skills. She grades without rubric, but low score on paper,never give you feedback.
She requires you to buy a lot of books physically that can be read online. She posted homework in the last minutes, assignments are all summarizing novels. She never posts any lectures in her online class, just YouTube videos. Grade you with no rubric, I did not receive any feedback even asked her for feedback. TERRIBLE PROFESSOR, UPSET A LOT.
Don't ever take her, she NEVER replies to your email, she has a lot of irrelevant essays which does not contribute to the final essay. Her lecture is also irrelevant. She doesn't grade according to any criteria. When 1-2 people fail the paper, it may be there false, however, the entire class failed the paper, it's her fault.
I did see good reviews about her, so I took her class, but I was so disappointed with her teaching. I took this class based on the positive reviews of this teacher. I turned in all my work on time even made sure to ask for feedback. Ms. Lim truly does not care for writing. She fails to facilitate the fundamental job of the educator. Repetitive assignments with no relation to the final. Clear favoritism, only answers emails of certain students.

It is hard to get a good grade in her class and hard to improve your English because she grades with no detailed rubric and won't give you feedback.
DON'T TAKE HER ONLINE CLASS. I am not sure how her lecture class is, but she uploads assignments in the last minutes and does not teach you much in the online class, her lecture is irrelevant.
To be honest, she is great in lecture, but when it comes to online teaching, she doesn't do well. If you take her class normally, go for it. If you take her class online, don't. Stay away, and I'm not talking about the COVID 6 ft kind of away, I'm talking about a Chernobyl kind of away.

I took 1A last year with a different instructor and didn't pass. I am glad that I heard good things about Miss Lim. I am taking the next English class next term.
One thing is clear as crystal. Her 1A class was the hardest and heaviest class I have taken so far in this college. They say it is a college-level study that's why we had a lot of work. 4 books, 8 essays, loads of assignment, and last mint. posts. Not even university level study is that heavy. WAKE UP. Other profes. would have given mbetter grade

I have no idea why there are a TON of comments coming from the last week of May 2020. Looking at the way these reviews are typed and it's repetitiveness it looks like the same person wrote all of them during the last week of May. This person has some serious problems. Overall, professor Lim wasn't a great professor, but she wasn't a bad one either.

Don't ever take her. She is a real GPA killer, she will drag your score down in just a flash. I took her class online in the Fall and to be honest her lecture is boring. She won't know what she is doing in her class. She will give a lot of discussion and essays for you to write just in a week. Believe me, find yourself a better professor.
Miss Lim is a good teacher. It is NOT her fault that writing and reading are both boring activities compared to Facebook and Instagram.
Don't ever take her. One of the worst professor in EVC. She will load you with massive homework and don't give any explanation to you. Moreover, usually you have a month to know the research paper's topics and do a research. But this professor won't, she gives you only a week to choose a topic of her choice and write AT LEAST 4000 words.

I started English classes with Miss Lim when I took her for 102. After that I took her again two more times for 106 and 1A. That's because Miss Lim is a great teacher.
I am sad to read the bad things that people write about Miss Lim. I took her for two reading classes (English 322, then 102), and I learned a lot from her. She helped me pass 1A because she tutored me during her office hours and she wasn't even my 1A instructor.
If you are going to take this teacher, beware to write the most perfect essay you've ever written. I am being serious like she wants it to be perfectly perfect. No lectures only youtube videos. I wrote an essay and apparently not how she wanted it and accused me of plagiarism and straight-up reported and dropped me from the class. ????

It sounds like she's better in person than online, and unfortunately the pandemic isn't going to help that any. I took ENGL online and she was frequently late publishing assignments (b/c she doesn't use Canvas efficiently), and of course, did not respond to emails. I'm lucky I made it out alive. Hard pass.
I learned a lot about literature.
I'll be honest. I took her 1a class this summer. I always get C in ESL classes, but in her 1a I got an A grade. I'm really happy & glad that I took her. Only 2 novels to read for summaries, follow ur essay instructions from ESL and do extra credit for summarizes. U will get an Essay A. Take her and follow these, u'ill really appreciate her class.
Just work hard and she will give out marks based on your effort. She is really a great professor for English .
She is a good teacher that recognizes her students' effort, but I wish she gave me more feedback on my essays to improve more. The summer class was organized despite it being online last minute and she would give second chances to students who struggled.
This class was definitely not easy for me, because English has always been a difficult subject for me. At first I was overwhelmed with all the homework we had, but I can honestly say I am thankful for all the homework she gave us, because I now feel more confident writing essays. She definitely pushed me to become a better student.
The lectures are ONLY YouTube videos that we do discussions on. The work is so repetitive, it honestly gets tiring after watching. She never answers emails so that's also very great. You can find a much better professor for English. Don't take her online class if you actually want to like class.

My To-Do List is full of English assignments all week long. No breaks in assignments. All you do is read, write, read, write, read some more and write some more.

if you hate yourself entirely and can handle loads and loads of essay, I'd say take her. She is a good professor.. but the workload? absolute hell. She's very strict and has a specific template of how things should be. I think she's overall fine, but I would never ever take this class again. Literally an essay EVERY SINGLE WEEK!!!! NEVER AGAIN!!!
She genuinely cares about her students and wants them to succeed, but makes it hard for them to do so. She assigns a lot of homework, doesn't show up to class occasionally, and is impossible to contact outside of class. She is not very clear when it comes to grading criteria and expectations for assignments. I would not recommend this professor.
NEVER RESPONDS TO EMAILS WHY IS THIS TEACHER GETTING PAID ANYWAY
Summer '22, I was freaking out when the first assignments rolled out on Canvas. I thought it was going to be a tough summer - it was! The initial "tutors" on our essays were a mixed bag. Miss Lim didn't nick pick my essays, but summarized my papers based on a quick read in my opinion. If you do your assignments thoroughly then you should do well.
for summer, 10 small HW assignments, 2-3 discussions and 2 essays a week plus research paper and final. follow her mla formatting EXACTLY and have basic essay structure down. it is possible to get a A at the expense of your summer. if you are esl, do not take this class since she gives no personalized feedback. all comments are copy and pasted.
If you're taking during her during intersession or summer, get ready for back to back work. She gives about 3-4 assignments everyday/other day. A couple of weeks in, you get two to essays per week. Get ready for the grind. But, she graded a lot easier than I though as long as you follow her instructions EXACTLY.

This professor does not give adequate time to complete certain assignments. It seems like she is last minute posting and we are responsible. Instructions are terrible.

Took this Fall 2022 and received an F. Retook the class spring 2023 and passed. I would recommend you follow all her instructions and the way she wants you to format your papers and you will be okay. A lot of discussions and writing essays. takes a long time to grade and is horrible to reply to emails. Also make sure to cite or she will fail you
She gives out a LOT of homework. She assigns 2 assignments a day (excluding weekends) and essays every other week. Slow grading, slow email responses. Really random assignment upload times. However, she does give out a lot of resources on assignments and I found NetTutor to be really helpful for essays. Manageable class but lots of work.
This is a great class to learn the fundamentals of sentence and essay composition. do not take this professor if you do not tolerate consistently poor communication both in email and in-person lecture. There were several occasions where she yaps on and on about good habits of student which derail the entire lesson plan. I did learn how to write tho

Lots of assignments and essays, but manageable if you follow instructions closely. unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for essay prep. Professor is slow to respond, but provides helpful resources. Recommended if you're willing to put in the work.

This teacher assigns too many assignments, makes you print the assignments but not grade them. We read 1 book the whole class. She misses classes and notifies you 5 minutes before class. Worst teacher I have had. Do not recommend!!
I do NOT recommend this class at all. The teacher never shows up to class, never grades work, and also never teaches. The teacher only emails an hour in advance if shes not hosting class, but if YOURE absent, then you can't make up the work. She never puts in the grades, even after making her students print everything out. I don't recommend one bit
I do NOT recommend her! Grading was delayed until the week before finals, communication was inconsistent, and many classes were cancelled. Instruction primarily consisted of watching videos, and several required assignments were never graded. Overall, the course lacked structure, feedback, and effective teaching.
Please do not take this class; she often cancels about 20 minutes before class starts. She is also kind of mean and does not respect students' time, never grades work, but makes you print out everything. For the first two weeks, she will give a lot of homework, but after that, don't expect to really learn anything.
She is a waste of a teaching degree, I truly believe she has mental issues and needs to be reevaluated as a faculty member of Evergreen Valley College. Talks about how she is not married, no kids, her family issues, and talks to HERSELF in front of a class. Only has this job so she can feel better about her miserable life.
