He is really funny but sometimes hard to follow. He really wants his students to do well and gives helpfull little hints on the test. I had a hard time in this class just becuase it was hard. I took it in high school, and still had a hard time. You're gonna have to work hard no matter who teaches the class.
very vague on test questions, can't solve his own problems, gives wrong formulas, should not be a teacher here. hard to understand, won't admit mistakes. AVOID

Woa i totally disagree with the last comment! Toribio is so understanding that he gives extra credit if ppl do poorly on exams (exams that are leniently graded). On the last exam we could use both sides of a piece of comp. paper, and most of the questions on the test were VERY general...like just giving the formula..not even having to solve it!
Toribio is a good guy. He does sometimes mess up but everyone makes mistakes. He cares so much about his students and wants everyone to do well. Gives out extra credit for most tests to help students grade. There's about a quiz every week but they're easy and just to keep you doing what your supposed to. 4 long exams and 2 spss projects.
This guy is the best in the world. He is able to render complex statistical issues in a very accessible way. He is #1
very heavy accent
Professor Toribio is a really great guy and a wonderful teacher. I have always struggled with math, but he explains everything really well so that everyone understands it. He's super helpful and funny too! I highly recommend him.
Awesome Guy! Likes to talk about his country of origin and its very interesting. Knows a lot about stats and is very good at explaining exactly what he expects. Very Good Teacher. Take him!
HARD class, but good teacher. Go to class to make sure you take the random quizzes. Do the practice problems
Incredibly nice guy, never in a bad mood. I didn't do homework once and still got an A in the class. However, you still need to study well for the tests. I'd highly recommend him for MTH 145
Professor Toribio is a great teacher and he is an expert of the subject matter. He is incredibly nice. He is somewhat of a tough grader but if you study what he tells you to you will do great. Do the homework and go to class, you will get at least a B.
Toribio is pretty cool. He is kind of entertaining, not always on purpose. He's kind of hard to understand, but works hard to make sure you understand the lesson. Weekly quizzes can help your grade, and daily HW assignments, too. Tests are difficult, but if you study you can pull a B without much problem. Nice guy, not a bad professor.
I took him for stats over the summer and I HATED the class but I loved Toribio!!! He knows his stuff and is excellent at explaining it.
His grading was a challenge. He asked really detailed questions. Other professors are much easier, but you learn a lot from him. I would take biostats if that applies to you... It sounds more pertinent and you will likely retain more. If you have abnoxiuos freshman in your class tell them to shut up... they were distracting in my course...
GREAT PROFESSOR! TAKE HIM
Great professor! Very nice guy. Has a positive attitude every day. It is kind of a hard class, but if you go to all the classes you stay pretty well caught up. I recommend him!
Cutest guy ever, super nice and helpful. Sometimes a little hard to understand. A lot of little 5 pt. quizzes that fluff up your grade, but the exams are pretty hard. Attendance is crucial to keep up with the new info.
Very sweet man and also quite helpful. Tests and material are challenging, so attendance is necessary. Short quizzes are quite easy though.
He's a really nice guy, but he loves using proofs.
Hard to understand, really helpful, but he expects you to know everything when it comes to tests. Funny guy but gives lots of quizzes, not that bad though. Overall great teacher though.
Reasonable about due dates, will push a test back a day if needed. Gives a lot of eas quizzes out of the homework to help boost your grade. Overall great prof, would take him again
Sometimes hard to understand, nice but very, very tough with exams. Talks fast most of the time; expects students to know the material without explaining it well enough. Not recommended.
I think Sherwin (not only has a great name) but he is a great teacher! He explains everything very well and makes sure the students understand the material. The tests are hard-- but it is a math course, what do you expect? Out of all the classes I am taking, i probably look forward to going to his class the most-- and i usually do not like math!
He is hard to understand due to his accent. He will start to teach you something one way then find out everyone was confused then the next day teach you a completely different way. It is confusing but he was quite helpful. Do the homework, pay attention, and ask questions. Stats is hard, but the professor does well at teaching.
GREAT PROFESSOR! Toribio is one of the best I have had at UW-L. He is very nice and helpful and goes out of his way to ensure understanding of content. He is utterly adorable and makes a lot of dorky jokes.
Dr. Toribio was an awesome professor! – take him if you can!! I loved him!! I had never taken a statistics class before, so I was extremely nervous about taking this class. I thought it was going to be a lot of work outside of class, but it wasn't. His tests were manageable, but you need to study. He is a great guy, and his class always flew by.
Tests are manageable if you study and pay attention and do the practice exams they're almost the same! He does have an accent but you get used to it. Overall I loved Sherwin and he tells dorky jokes and gets off topic sometimes but that's what makes class time interesting. It's a challenge but he makes it bearable! take him :)
Very sweet man and humorous. His final is really difficult, 9 pages long in two hours. It's a lot of work so don't take this course if you have a hefty schedule to begin with.
He really enjoys teaching statistics. He is always there to help you if you don't understand. You do need to study for his tests and quizzes because they're big portions of final grade. He doesn't really give out homework unless clarified in class. If you never took stats take him!
Toribio is honestly the cutest. His tests are very straight forward if you do his practice exams. You must study a lot but he gives you everything you need to succeed. Never took stats, and got an A! He is very flexible and helpful.
Toribio took over our class when our teacher had her baby and he was very helpful. Super easy to get along with and always so helpful in class and in his office hours. If you do not like math and you need stats then I recommend to take his class!
Dr. Toribio is a great professor. His lectures are interesting, and informative. He gives a quiz everyday, so always go to class. His tests are difficult, but there are no surprises. All information if directly from lecture. Do the practice exams and you'll do fine. I would take his class again. Never took stats before and got an A.
Dr Toribio is such a great professor! I am definitely not a math person but he made the class fun and easy. He genuinely cares about each of his students and spends most of the class time making sure every student understands the material. Definitely take one of his classes if you have the option!
I really like Dr. Toribio. He is a great guy and he genuinely cares about his students. Statistic is a hard class but he is still a great professor.
I really liked him. The first couple weeks it was very hard to understand him due to his accent and the fact that he talks so fast. He repeats what he says a lot so that you understand and he gives many examples. He will help you with any question you have and is very sincere. Stats will not be an easy class no matter the teacher.
My favorite professor. it's going to be hard, but he gave slidesnotes for students that made it easier to follow along in lecture . Lots of quizzes, a great way to up your grade (some in-class, some out - but he's always clear about what to expect). Tough exams, but if you do the provided practice exams, you're golden. GREAT CLASS
Not a lot of help. Always showed how to use technology to find the answer but wouldn't do much practice for things we needed to know for exams. Not a lof of help in office hours.
he's not bad. i've had better professors, but i've also had far worse. he doesn't really help you figure out what you did wrong on homework, but if you go in to his office he will help you figure it out and then some.
Dr. Toribio is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. He is very approachable and is willing to help whenever he can. He gives daily quizzes which are 2 questions, 5 points each. They are usually very easy if you do the practice problems he gives. He also posts practice exams - if you do them, you WILL do well on the in class exam.
I honestly love this man. He is fun and very sweet. He is willing to help. It is difficult to understand him at times, but he is my favorite professor.
Dr. Toribio is great! He is very nice, and always willing to help when you need it. The exams are difficult, but if you look through the notes and do/understand the two practice exams on his website, you should be fine. Overall, an awesome professor!
Toribio is the nicest professor I have had. He gives a lot of short quizzes, but if you do your homework you will be fine. He also provides 2 sample exams before each exam, which are set up almost exactly to the actual exam.
Dr. Toribio is a second language English speaker. He is willing to go through problems if and only if you ask questions. NO note card on most exams although he will provide some of the formulas needed. Tests are time sensitive and difficult. There are daily quiz 5 pts each, no credit is given for homework, no extra credit, cumulative final.
This professor is the nicest professor I have had while at UWL. He is great during his lectures and works really hard to make sure we understood. The daily quizzes are easy if you pay any attention during class. His tests are hard though, in order to balance out the easy quizzes. Overall, I would take him again.
Dr. Toribio is a really nice professor, but he is awful at teaching. You have to use a software called R. Unless you are good with coding DO NOT take him. The software is confusing and his notes do not clarify how to do the commands. Homework does not relate to the notes. Notes are pages right from the book. He does not give enough time on exams
Took stats, tough subject for me personally and he made it very doable. Great with one on one help and really wants his students to do well. Good guy, lots of quizzes but those ended up helping my grade in the end.
Hes very helpful. Answers email quickly and explains things slowly. Nevertheless, theres a sense of unpreparedness to him. It always seems like hes coming up with examples on the fly which makes it difficult to understand concepts. When reading examples from the book, it seems like hes never seen before so hes unable to answer questions properly
I was dreading having to take stats because I have never taken it before and was never good at math. Professor Toribio made this class so enjoyable and he really knows how to teach. He's such a funny guy and makes sure everyone knows the topic. There are daily 5 point quizzes that help boost your grade and make sure you know the concepts.
Professor Toribio is very good at explaining concepts, helping students, and making class enjoyable. He has a lot of "pop quizzes" but always tells you when they're going to be. If you do well on the quizzes they're an easy way to boost your grade. Overall, great professor.
Professor Toribio is an awesome stats professor. He is good at explaining and helping students understand the material covered in the class. Lots of quizzes, but they are only five points and very easy overall. Very understanding and always willing to help students. Definitely would recommend.
Dr. Toribio is by far one of the best professors I've ever had. If you are taking Stat145, he is definitely the best prof. I've never been good at math, but I had no problem understanding the concepts. This class isn't an easy A, but Toribio is super nice and will go out of his way to help you.
His tests are straightforward, if you get the homework, you will do fine on the tests. The quizzes are annoying, they make you need to show up to class even if you fully understand the entire unit that is currently being taught. He does go off on random tangents almost daily, so that go annoying pretty fast but overall not bad, he clearly cares.
He made the material he taught very confusing when it could've easily been simplified. For only a 55 min class by doing proofs and explaining unnecessary things he was quick to waste the time while he could'v been teaching us stuff on the test. Peoples other stats classes were much easier, wouldn't recommend. Doesn't explain SPSS projects well.
Very good professor. Absolutely would take him again. Does have a bunch of small 5 point pop quizzes during the semester, but as long as you show up you'll be fine. Very passionate about stats and you can tell he loves his job.
Toribio is a really caring, funny and smart guy. He explains things really well in class but if you don't show up to class, you'll miss the information and will be behind. Lots of both in class and out of class quizzes but if you do well on those, you'll do well on the tests. Only complaint are the 3 SPSS assignments which aren't explained well.
Dr. Toribio was my favorite professor for my first semester of college. He was a very kind, caring and funny professor. He is very knowledgeable about the topic and is always willing to help. Take home quizzes and reading quizzes are a sizable portion of your grade, so keep up with those and you'll be on your way to a great grade in his class!
He somehow made math lectures fun. Really took the time to make sure his students understood the material before moving on.
really nice guy but i wouldnt recommend as a teacher. he would either go through the problem super fast and not explain it or he would have us try on our own without learning the material at all, which is super difficult to do. i would study so hard for exams and there was only 1 of 5 exams where i walked out feeling like i did decent on.
By far one of the best professors I have had. He's very caring and takes the time during class to help those who don't understand. The class itself was not very difficult as long as you keep up with the homework and study.
Class was all online, but Professor Toribio did a great job of having an organized and well-put together online course. The SPSS assignments were a little confusing, but not too bad if you spend some time on it. He allowed 2 attempts with unlimited time on the quizzes and 2 hours for exams, which was very reasonable. Definitely recommend!
One of the nicest professors that I've ever had at UWL. Very passionate about statistics and is a great teacher. You can tell he cares about his students. He made statistics very easy to understand.
The best professor I have taken at UWL. Textbook is for fill in the blank reading quizzes that take 5 minutes, otherwise you don't need the book. Barely anytime outside of class. 2-3 hours studying outside of class for each test MAX. He cares about your mental health is very very nice. Makes material easy to understand. Please take him!
His lectures explained everything and the quizzes, although there are quite a few, are pretty easy to get full points on. The only annoying thing was that some of the smaller equations he expected us to memorize rather than putting them on an equation sheet. Overall, pretty easy to get good scores as long as you do the homework quizzes.
Test were similar to the practice exams he gave out. Their was "pop-quizzes" like every other day but most of the time he would warn you, and their pretty easy. They're also reading and homework quizzes which are easy points. During the end of the year workload really increases though. I suck at math and had a 90% going into the final exam.
Professor Toribio was definitely a very solid option for stats. I barely got a B in Math 150, but I have a 92% right now in the class. 4 exams and 1 final, plus 3 group projects that take 1-3 hours max. My only complaint is that the exams have just enough questions to where even if you know how to solve them all, you'll finish with 30 seconds left
A great professor, he gives quite a few quizzes throughout the semester, both online and in class but aren't too bad. He cares about his students and wants them to do well, when you don't understand something, he will help you until you do understand. However, no matter how well you know the material, the tests are so long it was hard to finish.
Sherwin was a good professor, but sometimes that class was overwhelming. He stressed using statistical software, but I did not pay attention to that and I am so glad I didn't. You NEED to take time to study for exams otherwise you will not pass. Office hours are not helpful in this course. Dr. Toribio was a really kind person.Lots of quizzes(easy).
Prof Toribio was a pretty good prof. I had him for online stats this summer, his lectures were easy to follow and he provided a lot of examples in his lectures to help us with quizzes and tests. Although it was online and overwhelming at times, he was a great prof and was always willing to help outside of class.
Mr. Toribio was the best math professor I've ever had. He was personable, he was a good grader (didn't take all of your points as long as you showed your work so he could help you where you messed up) and made the class lectures easy to understand and apply to real life scenarios. There are lots of home quizzes and reading quizzes (easy points).
Almost everything you need to do for this class can be done on your calculator if you take 30 min - 1 hour outside of class watching YouTube videos to show you how. He's very nice and has a nice personality.
I thought Toribio was one of the best math teachers I have ever had. He was very nice and funny, wanted everyone to succeed and gave tons of partial points on exams and homework. It is a hard class no matter what, but he made it a lot easier.
I had Toribio in stat145. He is a good professor + wants you to succeed. I put no effort into the class until the last 2 exams, and was able to pass with a C. Unless math is easy for you, you'll have to study a lot outside of class. Watching his videos on canvas was helpful. As long as you put in the effort you should be able to get a good grade!
Toribio was great. He was funny, and very straightforward with his lectures and lessons. So many small take home quizzes will bring your grade up and tests are relatively easy. Definitely consider him for stat145
he is a super nice guy and makes lecture fun and funny. Love him the class is hard because it is a hard class but he really makes it better. their are lots of quizzes in and out of class but sorta easy points. You have to work fast on the exams. Posts all the lectures online too.
Professor Toribio is a great professor. As long as you are in class you will pass his class. He gives you "reading" quizzes that are super easy and 5 point at home and in class quizzes. As long as you show up you will be able to do these quizzes easily. Find a good group of people to work with and ask questions too and you'll be fine.
Dr. Toribio was a very nice guy and made his lectures interesting to listen to. Course material is not difficult if you participate & come to class. Lots of quizzes (pretty easy if you look over your notes before class). Lots of easy reading & at home quizzes. He does get off topic sometimes but it can be entertaining. Highly recommend this class!
In my opinion, Professor Toribio has been one of the best math teachers I have ever worked with. As a teacher, he was very nice and funny, he wanted everyone to succeed and he gave a lot of partials points on exams as well as homework. I definitely recommend taking him for Stat 145
Professor Toribio was probably the best professor I've had at UWL. He's a very fair grader and makes exams reasonable. He's also available to help outside of class. Great teacher, and an even better person. Would recommend.
He is very good professor and knowledgeable on the subject matter. There is a decent amount of homework, and short in class quizzes. Tests progressively get harder but he gives you practice exams and will go out of his way to help his students., If you keep up with the homework, and don't miss class you should be able to get minimum of a B
Poor job of explaining things.would spend days studying and acing his practice exams only to fail his real ones. doesn't offer assistance in/out of class.SSPS assignments don't make you do math but make you struggle with software system for hours on end.4th exam is only 5 days prior to final 200-point exam. doesnt offer any tips prior to the final.
Dr Toribio is a super funny guy and it is never boring going to his class. Beware that he puts proofs on exams for a coding-based class, so make sure to study them. He is always happy to help with anything during office hours, and will basically walk through issues you have one-on-one which is super awesome. Definitely recommend!
he seems like a nice person but is a horrible teacher!!!! there are quizez almost every day, he only posts on canvas after your class, even when stuff is due at midnight. The tests often take longer then the class time so alot of people cant even finish them, the average for tests is around a 60.
As someone who sucks at math, this course was a breeze. A few short quizzes a week and regular homework keep your grade up, and he posts exams from previous years to study off of. Super caring guy who will always answer your questions and is very flexible with deadlines. I highly recommend going to class every day it's worth your time. TAKE SHERWIN
Professor Sherwin is a beast. Such a great guy, always smiling, eager to teach, and makes lectures bearable. He is very supportive of students and makes the content as understandable as possible. Attending class is important as there were daily/weekly quizzes for the majority of the semester and you want to keep up with the content.
Overall He's a much better alternative to other STAT's Professors. However I am not a fan of his teaching style. Personally very confusing to me. He often falls behind in lecture and introduced a ton of material while under-explaining it. He is the most disorganized-organized professor I've had at UWL. That being said he's okay
I loved Sherwin Toribio! He made STAT145 easy to understand. He does give lots of in-class quizzes so attendance is mandatory. Quizzes are easy and force you to learn the material. He also gives homework online and reading quizzes from the textbook that are easy points! Overall, would recommend! Lots of work at times though.
Dr. Toribio was a good STATS professor. He explained the material well and was very easy to access through email and office hours. He gives in class quizzes, so attendance matters, gives online quizzes, reading quizzes so theres a lot of points.I wouldn't recommend if you are a slow test taker because tests are long and he takes long to grade them.
Such a nice professor, He gives practice exams before each test which are very helpful and really aims for each student to fully understand the material. He is always in a good mood and will answer any questions you have. I don't even like math but this ended up being my favorite class this semester.
Attendance is absolutely mandatory. 25 textbook quizes, 25 in class, 25 online. Long tests, long grader. 3 online projects for busy work. Very caring and gives extensions. I took stats in hs and this class was still a bit tricky. Prob a easier prof out there but toribio will be fine if u put the effort in.
Dr. Toribio is amazing. There are so many assignments and little points in the gradebook to help your grade. He is an outstanding grader and gives partial credit on almost all exam questions. Often extends due dates and is very fun to listen to in class. I am horrible at math and did great in this class; I definitely recommend!!
I would highly recommend taking Dr. Toribio if you have to take Stats 145! He teaches the material at a reasonable pace and wants his students to understand it. There are lots of quizzes and three projects, but these help you stay on track and understand the course material.
He is a super amazing professor who is very nice, knowledgeable, and helpful. Keep in mind that stats is not a generally fun course, but Toribio does his best to make it engaging. Compared to other horror stories that I have heard about other stats professors, Toribio is amazing. Truly would recommend him. He is a great guy!
His accent and teaching style can sometimes make things difficult, but he is a really funny and nice guy. He gives out a lot of quizzes so be prepared for that. This is a pretty tough class overall, so you really will need to study regardless of the professor.
He is a nice guy but a terrible professor. He has a strong accent that makes it hard to understand things. His tests are very long and most people don't finish during the time. He also gave quizzes almost everyday
I really liked Dr. Toribio as a professor. His homework was all online using RStudio, which sounds a lot scarier than it really was. He allowed students to use cheat sheets, but make sure you know what you're doing as students always barely finished the exams. Overall, he was a great professor and he's very nice and welcoming in office hours too!
Good teacher but still makes it hard to prepare for tests and quizzes sometimes. Attend class, and USE THE PRACTICE TESTS
This semester, Toribio taught STAT449, which wasn't included in the class code. Anyways, the fact that he has any reviews under 5 stars is APALLING because this man is the GOAT. In all honesty, he's extremely friendly and approachable. Lecture can be dry at times, but put in effort, and you'll get a good grade while becoming an RStudio master
Pretty hard class but Sherwin makes it decently easy to learn. He is also very nice and accommodating, meeting with him in office hours is easy and he helps a lot. Definitely need to study outside of class if you want an A though.
