She is a very good prof, you'll learn a lot. Tests are fine if you take really good notes, you can drop one. She has somewhat of an attitude sometimes, but you learn so much it's not that big a deal.
tests are easy. essays are easy. several extra credit opportunities. Interesting class.
Really easy, but still worthwhile.
Very nice teacher, tons of extra credit, fair tests, definatly worthwhile
She seems nice, but when she assigns work, she doesn't explain the details well or what she expects from students.
very down to earth, makes the class very interesting. lots of extra credit.. tests are easy if you take notes.. great teacher
Good teacher, great class to have. Very helpful will be taking her for a 300 class next semester. LOVE HER!
If you want to get a well rounded understanding of comparitive politics, do not take this class. The class was based entirely on the teachers opinion. the class may have been easy, but I didn't learn a thing.
The class has a lot of reading, but if you do the reading and take good notes, you'll do okay on tests. Instruction method is very outdated - 99% lecture. Instructor was condescending to class at times.
She seems to care about teaching and the subject matter but could have run the class better and made it a lot more interesting. An easier class to take when you have a heavy course load
Easy class, also learned some interesting things. Good teacher.
Best professor I've had for any Poli Sci course. I've taken all the courses she teaches, and ended up with an A in all of them, and a much better understanding of the subjects.
She is a great POL SCI professor. Her tests and assignments are fair. She does a extremely well job in providing different views. I would highly recommend her to anyone needing to take a POL Sci class.
She does not follow her own syllabus and often creates new assignments after the drop date in her course.
Edwards is a very nice lady and has very do-able assignments. We didn't have homework, only tests and one big paper. Even if u don't know much about politics, you can get an A in the class if you study before the test and take the notes:)
She is a decent professor, but, the simulation activity was the biggest waste of time, I didn't gain any knowledge from it.
Mrs. Edwards is a very nice lady and a great teacher. Lectures are straightforward and easy to follow (2-3 pgs. of notes during a 1.5 hr. session). Exams are 50 mult. choice & 1 essay (essay options given ahead of time). Only one paper or project.
Very nice lady. She's always helpful and trys to make class fun.
Nice professor, makes class fun, and tries to get you involved in politics. Pretty humorous and many students usually particpate.
Very easy class because she makes very easy exams. All you have to do is study the night before or the day of the test to do well.
She is a pretty easy professor, but she is extremely opinionated and doesn't like anyone that doesn't agree with her. She changes her syllabus a lot and isn't very organized. Overall, though, her class is not too bad.
The best professor at UM-D. Tests are very easy. If you study the notes and read the book you will get an A. Very easy grader. The best Political Science teacher at UM-D.
Prof. Edwards makes an 8'oclock in the morning class fun... And I disagree with one of the previous comments about her... She likes when people disagree with her so the class can start a discussion! Overall, her class is interesting, and she tries really hard to make it fun!
Professor Edwards is a great professor. She makes dull material fun, better than some other Poli Sci professors. I enjoy going to her class.
I like and enjoy the class very much but simulation activities can be boring and pointless at times.
good teacher, but if you're taking this class, be prepared to feel like you're in high school again. its very weird, definitely nothing i've ever experienced in a college course. but much like high school, its simple and straight forward. i'd give her an A.
Very nice teacher. She trys to help students in any way she can. The class simulation wasn't bad, but many of the students, especially the rebuttlickans, didn't apply themselves. :)
Good teacher, good lectures, good class. Just watch out if you're a republican; In the beginning she's not bias and gives both sides of the story...but at the end, she'll allow the class to debate and well, if you're not democrat, don't talk.
Lecture, she puts her notes on the web in ppt so u can dload them, tests very very easy, essays easy, nuff said.
A great professor. Lectures are interesting and well organized. Very friendly and willing to help students learn. Tests are easy and straightforward, just take good notes and read the text.
Great professor. Makes class fun and interesting. I'd take her again anytime. Pay attention, take notes and you'll do fine. She wants all students to participate in class.
Awesome teacher! Knows what she is talking about. Take her if you get the chance.
She's a great teacher and she will help any student who asks for it.
Wonderful professor, if she appears sarcastic or judgmental, just remember that she has been researching for 20 years before you shoot your mouth off :)
Good professor, knowlegable, helpful, and clear. If you need to take Poli Sci, take her class.
Helpful and very understanding if you need to miss class. I highly recommend her for your distribution requirement. All the test questions come from online practice quizes.
Easy if you read the book and pay attention in class. - Take notes, simple.
Pay attention to the syllabus and be prepared for class. Reading the book is especially helpful. Budget your time for reading. She wants everyone to do well. Enjoy!
Very knowledgeable. I learned a lot. Read the chanpters and study before the tests. Pay attention and it's an easy A
Easy class. Nice lady..just the most boring lectures. Easy papers. Overall easy it was just so damn boring.
Great Professor; She really knows her stuff, especially Foreign Affairs-she loves that. Take her you will love it.
she is very conservative, but everything is great, i'm just not interested in politics.
Go to class and pay attention and you'll do fine. She lays everything out that you need to know with power point lectures... uses the daily show as well!
Amazing Professor and an Amazing class overall especially if you arei nterested in International Politics. There is alot of class discussion and you are always awake in her class and you learn so much just by listening to discussions on current issues on the news. She is not that hard you just have to read hte chapters and do the quizes online.

best class ever. i never thought political sci. could get so interesting. in my opinion, this is the best prof. at umd so far.
Class had two exams (one dropped) one large group presentation and a final exam (essay part was take home). You learn a bit from doing the group presentations but not really from listening to them. Pretty good class and a good instructor.
take her!
THE BEST
good prof. i liked the class but hated the simulation.
if you say that mrs. edwards is anything but easy you should be slapped! she is a great lecturer and is the only teacher i have had that makes me stay awake. just pay attention, no note taking, and read a few chapters for the exams and you are GUARANTEED at least a B.
Sheryl made the Ottawa Political Internship a very enjoyable experience! She is awesome.
The person who rated her POL 496 class before me is absolutely right. She is an amazing professor. It's too bad that I just lost...
She is easy and interesting, but the class does NOT match the course description. Don't expect to do much actual comparative politics - most of the class is about Israel's history and international relations.
One of my favorite professors on campus, simply due to the fact that she will work with you and she knows her stuff. All you need to do is attend class and pay attention, most of the reading and the online quizzes, easy B or above. Very very good.
she is the best professor i have had so far since i started at UMD. Very easy if you tons!
Very funny. If you don't like history or politics, she makes it interesting.
Very nice, funny at times. Really smart and knows what she is talking about. The only bad thing is that you have to read a lot of the book and it is very boring. She does make class fun and I would take recommend her class.
great professor, her class was really interesting and i highly recommend her class.
Easy Class. Test come straight from Lectures and Book. I would recommend her to anyone easy "A" or "B" depending on your attention span.
Great prof/class. You need to go to class as well as read the text. The tests are highly based on both lecture and book. The tests are easy if you pay attention and read, and the quizzes are a sinch! I loved this one!
Prof. Edward's Comparative Politics Class is awesome. She is a great Prof. and it's great coming to class. Excellent powerpoints/all hour lectures; she really knows the material. As long as you read the book and listen well in class you will do great in her class and learn a lot. If you need any help whatsoever she is really helpful. Take her class
Not sure if I'd recommend her. Too much material was squeezed into each test. Multiple choice questions didn't come as much from the lectures as the book.
Overall, she isnt too bad. If you miss lecture you will be confused because lecture material doesnt go right along with the book. Book and lecture important for exams. Gives like 8 quizzes,3 exams and 2 papers. Simulation is stupid and a waste of time. She knows her stuff but not one of my favorites. Probably wouldnt take another class with her
She's a good teacher. I learned a lot from her. She was fair in grading and it the class was kind of interesting. She wasn't my favorite instructor of the semester but I did like her.
Class is easy and simple to follow. You have to be at class though to hear the lectures since she puts questions of the exam. Read the book and go online and take the quiz online because she takes some questions from there
GREAT PROF. funny, interesting, and very helpful! Likes participation and discussion. Would recommend class to anyone interested in knowing how our gov. works if you need to boost your GPA take this course b/c you will get an A if you pay attention and attend class. One textbook that is easy to read plus clear concise lectures.
Extremely knowledgeable and fair, a political expert! Prepares students for tests and you actually learn Very nice too.
Prof Edwards is great! :-) Though sometimes lecture can get boring, its not that bad at all. The test essays r given before the test and the mult choice questions r mostly from lec and from mypoliscilab.com...nice lady and doesnt expect thaaaaat much. participating is always good. Bottom line..take her u wont be dissappointed.
Overall a good and easy teacher. Took this class internship about two years ago. Very fair and fun.
great prof. an a is easy if u go to lecture...study the studyguide she gives which is basically the exam...would take again
The best professor in the world! This is my second class with her and I still cant get enough. The class consisted of 3 exams, wiki project, and he final. You can drop one of the other 3 exams but not the final, I got an A-.
You don't learn anything. She doesn't live up to University standards.
I had a wonderful experience in prof Edward's course. She is very intelligent, knowledgeable, and approachable. I have no idea how a student could not like her course. I think the person below is not up to university standards!
I love this professor. Taken two class with her. She is lots of fun in class-makes jokes, and can relate to the students. Her tests are multiple choice with an essay. She gives the essay questions out before the test. Her lectures are enjoyable and easy to follow. She likes to see her students do well and is very helpful
HORRIBLE professor!! Expects WAY too much out of students for a 100 level course. She assigns tons of readings and isn't clear at all on what she wants you to know for the tests. Its humanly impossible to get an A in her class!! I don't recommend taking any classes with her unless Political Science is your life and you're already an expert on it.
Read the book and it's an easy A. I didn't read one page all semester and still pulled out an A.
expects a lot
half the exam is an essay the other half is multiple choice & possible essay questions are given at least a week prior exam. she expects you to follow current events and puts them as questions on the exams, loves class participation, makes jokes and is funny. read the textbook for quizzes and tests!
Great prof, really knows what she is talking about, although the amount of reading assigned is crazy! Very boring reads, but interesting class.
She does not meet the standards of a university educator, not even the low end of the scale. Her class is easy put if you are searching for a quality educational experience, I would avoid her courses.
She was a really good professor. you have to READ. if you do not read, your going to fail the class. I had a D throughout the entire semester then got a 98 on the final and got a B+ in the class. So read, exams are not hard if you read lol. The essay is identical to what she gives you.
This was not a class I would recommend. She is very rude and talks down to her students. thinks her opinion is the only right one. Does not like to discuss other views. I know lots about the subject do not feel like she is at a great teacher for this subject.
Very easy class. Do the readings and take the online quizes on the companion site for practice. Most test questions come from there. A couple short in class papers, piece of cake. Nice, personable, always willing to help. Highly recommend. If you have a problem with her, it's probably because you don't know as much as you think you do.
The most inspirational professor I've had yet. Taught me to think beyond the book and beyond the class and has made me want to become an active member in society. Really recommend her. As far as not getting the academic quality with her, that is false. She is insightful and opinionated, but encourages you to have an opinion to. Grade A professor.
Her tests are pretty easy. As long as you show up for class you should be fine. Make sure you read the chapters prior to the exam because you will need to use some examples on the essay portion of the test. Overall if you read the chapters and go to class you will get a decent grade.
I was sure I would hate this class, but she made it so interesting. She gave her opinion and encouraged others to do the same. Easy class if you take the practice tests online and read a little.
Such an easy class. Four exams and some online work. She drops the lowest exam grade and gives you essay questions before hand. just do the powerpoint slides and you'll be fine.
THE BEST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD! All of her lectures are interesting, and she's a fairly easy grader. You won't regret taking a class with her.
Words cannot describe how much I love Prof. Edwards. She is HILARIOUS, informative, and EXTREMELY intelligent. Presents the material in a very understandable way. Plus she's a liberal!! <3 Love her economic policies, but not so much a fan of her foreign policy though. lol ;) WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? SIGN UP BEFORE THERE AREN'T ANY MORE SEATS!!
This class is complicated at the beginning, but gets easier once you understand the exam process. Make sure you use the online prep part. She is a clear teacher, but uses powerpoint a lot. I wouldn't say I enjoyed the class, but I learned some and Edwards loves politics, which made it fun.
4 tests, one dropped, some online work and an essay. This class is the easiest AND the most interesting one I've ever taken. If you study what she tells you to study, you can get an A. Best teacher I've ever had.
Really easy. Doesn't take attendance, but puts things on the exams that aren't in the book. 4 tests, drops 1, and a 10 page research paper. No other homework. Make sure you read the textbook and take good notes and you'll be fine. Easy A. Wouldn't say she's mean, but she's stern. Pretty openly liberal, if it matters to you.
She is an amazing professor. I learned so much from her. She's extremely intelligent, witty, and downright hilarious. Her exams are half from lectures and half from the assigned textbook--half multiple choice and half essay.
Professor Edwards is an amazing professor. I have never learned so much from a single class ever before. She is one of the most intelligent professors I have had & I would even re-take her class. Her class is smooth sailing if you take notes and listen to her lecture. Truly brilliant course and instructor.
An amazing teacher. She is one of the best teachers ive had yet. Very smart, and she knows what shes talking about. Class gets very interesting, and exams are super easy. A great teacher, that i hope i can take again
Amazing professor! Funny, smart, and insightful. 3 exams and a final. She drops one of the exams. There's also online work. You have to study but it's a very interesting class. I never liked this subject but she made it interesting.
Professor Edwards is a very sweet lady. She is very organized and explained in detail about as many U.S. presidents as she could given the short amount of time given in a single semester. There is one long research paper, a debate, and two tests which were of moderate difficulty. Overall, I found this class to be very interesting and informative.
She is pretty smart and has some good insights on history and politics different countries. Test are pretty easy. half muli choice half essay. know what you want in your essay and u r good. she encourages having an open mind and challenging her on all topics. Then when you do is very dismissive. You can get an A no prob if you know a lot politics.
Drops lowest exam grade. You have to pay additional money to do the homework online, but other than that, the class was an easy A since many of the exam questions were pulled from the practice exams online.
One of the funniest professors on campus and not too bad of a class. Her essays are easy as she gives you three questions before the exam and chooses two of them to put on the exam. The multiple choice questions are a little difficult but overall her class isn't too bad. She also drops your lowest test grade.
Dr. Edwards is an awesome professor, but take the final more seriously than I did! It dropped my grade a whole letter :( So study study study!!!
She's an awesome person. Very funny and very passionate. HOWEVER. As a teacher, she's not the best. Going to class is not mandatory but she does give some important questions. The book for the class sucks, so reading it was a pain. But to do well, you MUST read the book. Enjoyed her, but not her class. Final dropped my grade from a solid A to a B.
Prof. Edwards was a great professor. She's extremely helpful and you could tell she loves what she does. Very funny, enthusiastic, and makes the class a real joy (not a pol mjr) . Took her final today, and a couple days ago, my class LITERALLY picked 20 ?s for the final. Make sure you get the book and do ALL the readings. Read, participate, enjoy.
Read the chapters and study your notes from lecture. Participate in class and visit her office hours. You will get an A. Read the questions at the end of the chapters for the pop-quizes. Very straightforward professor, and a very good lecturer. Her class is fun and interesting. Dont take this one of a kind professor for granted.
I think she genuinely cares about you doing well. She gives you plenty of opportunities to do well. Don't slack off and don't expect an "easy A." Ask for help, engage, and make an effort. She gives a lot of pop quizzes. You'll definitely need the book. And don't just copy down what she puts on the slides.
Inspired me to be a poly sci major. Loved the class. Don't be afraid of the volunteer work for the campaigns if she makes you do it because it's actually quite fun and you get a chance to have that on your resume for future. Take her exams seriously though and do EVERY prep she gives you because those answers and questions WILL be on the exam!
Take Professor Edwards if want a passionate professor who encourages students to ask questions and add comments. Although she can say the wrong things sometimes, she is very nice. If you read the textbook on time and take notes during class, you'll do fine.
Really great teacher. You can tell she's really excited about the topic. She's really entertaining and lets you know what's going to be on the exam. Make sure you not only read the slides, but also skim through the texts and jot down what she tells you is important.
Professor Edwards was average to me. I liked the way of her teachings but she wasn't my favorite. Wasn't willing to help if You asked a question she will make it seem like you don't pay attention in class. Overall, average class. You work for your grade. Group project, a long paper, 3 exams plus final and she drops one. Reasonable. Good luck!!!:D
She is an easy grader, and I loved everything she had to say in lecture. I have found that in order to get an A, you MUST READ EVERY CHAPTER she goes over, study the questions from the online quizzes, review notes, and write down the extra info she mentions that isn't listed on the slides. Not too bad. 3 tests, drops the lowest one.
3 exams, you get to drop one or not take it if you choose! A long paper that goes with a group project, and then the final. Clear grading criteria. Study online quizzes they help a ton!! Got a B :) good luck
Pay attention to the lectures and write what she says down. Study the online quizzes and read the chapters. It is not hard if you keep up. I enjoyed this class and would recommend to anyone.
Easy class. Just put in the effort. Final was not hard. We literally chose 20 of the final questions and the rest were basic review.
This class was easy and I didn't like Professor Edwards at first but she sort of grew on me. Although a main part of the class is a "group project" when you get into a group and end up writing your own papers so there's really no point. If you pay attention to lectures and do the online quizzes you'll easily pass.
She was a good professor. Show up everyday and take notes and you have to read textbook. She gives you essay questions for exams in advance to take advantage. If you show up and read textbook, guaranteed B at least
Professor Edwards is a must take when it comes to Political Science. Taking her class during the election is great because it provided us a better understanding of the processes of the election. To get an A, you have to read the book, hands down. Buy the online access because she takes a lot of the questions from the online quizzes.
I was told I would be getting an unbiased look into American politics and government. Instead I got an extremely liberally bias view of politics. Without stating my personal opinion, I would like to see an even playing field described so that way the students can choose what they want. Instead, one party's beliefs were being stated as fact.
Professor Edwards gives great lectures. You don't even need to read the book if you attend class and take notes. have fun!
Excellent
Prof. Edwards gives amazing lectures! You MUST show up to class and you MUST read the book!!! She uses excerpts from class lectures that are not in the book on every exam. She has conservative views, but is open-minded and hears from all sides. She is a tough lady, but you can tell she cares deeply and passionately about teaching and PoliSci.
Really good professor. Be present for every class.
The textbook is required to pass. She does online homework which is graded based off of completing it not how many you got right. Her class is easy as long as you show up and put in the work. She is really passionate and wants you to succeed but you need to work for it. I took her during an election and she kept her views as private as possible.
Boy, she was challenging... but im glad I took Pol Sci with her. I wasnt so interested in politics and that whole subject but she gets you engaged in it I didn't like the thought of the volunteering in the begining, but after doing campaign work, I was glad I completed the assignment. Exams from powerpoint notes and lecture. take notes!
I shouldve listened to those comments telling me not to take her. Class is 3 tests n 1 final. Lowest test is dropped excluding final. Tests are ea 50 multiple choice and 1 essay in the blue book. Final is 75 questions and a very long essay requirement. There are 12 hours of campaigning required. Only take if u care abt politics or ull H8 urself
The reading is definitely a requirement for this class. I took it as a dual enrollment student in high school and the 12 hours of campaigning opened the door to many more opportunities. There are tons of extra credit opportunities in the beginning. Reading and taking notes in class is all the work that needs to be done. Would take again.
Honestly the hardest thing about this class was the activity points assignment. Basically you get a partner and you have to go around campus and do a bunch of stuff off of a list for 100 points. Other than that, lots of reading and quizzes almost every day. However, she really cares about her students and is overall passionate about her field.
Sheryl can be a bit condescending, and expresses her political views too much, but those are the only complaints I have about her. She is knowledgeable, passionate, and a great resource for students wanting to go into the field. DO make sure you attend class because a lot of the exam questions come from lectures. You'll need the textbook as well.
Professor Edwards and are far apart on the political spectrum.I could tell that just through her presentation of the course. The cool thing about her though is that she never was different to me because of this. We had great dialogue about issues and she helped me grow my ideas. The way she taught is how all politics related teachers should teach.
She's a great professor, really cares about her students and is willing to help you out. She also gives out a lot of extra credit randomly. There are a lot of readings but you just need to get the gist of what the article is saying and you'll be set for the exam. Highly recommend!
I actually enjoyed her class and learned a lot from her lectures. Would totally take her class again.
Gen Z and Civic Engagement is the easiest foundations class. All you have to do is show up and get the work done. Assignments are super easy and straightforward. Professor Edwards was extremely caring and always asked the class how we are doing throughout the school year. Best professor and you can literally talk to her about anything.
This professor is one of the best I have had. She will do everything to help with whatever you need. I took her POL 201 course, which is A LOT of reading, but it is well worth it because if you do the reading, it will be fine. Take notes on each chapter. Exams are easy asf. They are a couple free response questions, she gives them to you before exam
Great class! She knows her stuff. Exams were always easy, she provides essay questions for the exam before the exam. She will help you out with whatever you need. Make sure to take notes during the lectures or you will fail. I only read the book for vocab words and that was it. Highly recommend this class, it is really fun!
Professor Edwards is great. Her course was graded on 2 quizzes, 2 exams, and 2 papers. One paper was on the simulation and one was on a research topic of your choice. Her exams had one of two essay questions which she gave you ahead of time and a multiple choice section. She gave study guides. Exam and quizzes are lecture and book heavy.
Professor Edwards' course is structured well, with graded quizzes, exams, and papers. Her study guides and lecture materials are helpful. For prepping, I found unstuck AI and the textbook to be great resources alongside the course content.
