MS. GIFFORD IS GREAT, SHE'S NICE N HELPS YOU WITH YOUR WRITING INSTEAD OF CRITICXING YOU, I WOULD DEF TAKE ANOTHER CLASS WITH HER.
bad teach. all she says is you dont have to do everything the question asks, and then gets upset when u adress only 1 thing. and can we say...AAA?
Ms. Gifford is a terrific teacher. She is friendly and helpful, and her lectures are clear and concise. As for the first student who gave her such low ratings...perhaps your remarks would be more meaningful if you were at least semi-literate.

great teacher, talks about her life a lot, especially about drinking, very helpful...recommend taking her class
I hate english but she made it fun and relatively easy. Highly recommended. If you can take her, do it.
Very helpful, and made the class interesting. If I had more English classes to take, I would definitely take another class from her.

I took this teacher three times. ENC1101, ENC1102, and ENC3213. I enjoyed her all three times. I thought she was such a good teacher. I wish she taught more classes!! I tell everybody to take classes with her.

Supereasy, I had already read everything she assigned. But, still it was nice, she was nice and understanding to situations....
She's a wonderful professor; makes everything really easy & fun. She's also very helpful when giving advice to future writers. I loved some of her assignments!
Sheryl takes attendance for every class meeting. Memos are due each class and she throws in an oral presentation at the end of the course. If you like to miss classes she might not be the professor for you. Assignments are laid out from the very beginning. She has a late policy, but does not always take points off for late work.
Good Teacher. Best english teacher ever!
Such a nice professor! She takes attendance at the beginning of each class. She's very understanding and helpful. She really prepares you for assignments and exams. Extremely interesting and smart. Highly recommend her if you are someone who goes to class, if not find a professor who doesn't take attendance.

She is too easy! It takes her like forever to grade papers. She barely comes to class. Too easy!
good teacher
Professor Gifford was amaziiinnnng! So nice, and extremly interested in the subject. Always fun to talk to, and very sweet. Loved her soo much taking her writing for managment class next semester even though its an elective.
Very nice and enthusiatic.Makes class fun and interesting which makes it a lot easier.Knows her stuff and knows how to communicate effectively.
She's a great teacher! Really nice, and sympathetic about student schedules/deadlines. I would highly recommend her, she was one of my best teachers this semester!
Nice, easy, gives away the A's like they grow on tree's, but if you're looking for an education - skip her. She may be decent for other English classes but she has no business teaching Business Communications course which is what I took. Also, consistently unprepared and pretty flaky.
Nice Lady,Unorganized and unprepared. We turned in all of our assignments the last day of class & dont even have a ballpark idea of what are grades will be. Overall Horrible teacher. DO NOT TAKE HER
Such a nice person! She is very understanding and will let you make up work that you have missed. She loves students in the arts. She often has to cancel her office hours but is willing to make an apointment anyway. very understanding and very helpful!
Good teacher but topic for paper are not so interested.soemof them but sh eis helpful
She is a great teacher. extremely helpful and understandable. She helps the students to understand what they read. Enjoyed the class!
Extremely critical in terms of grading; she graded subjectively. She was VERY disorganized. She took the entire semester to return graded assignment back, not an easy "A" type of instructor. She spoke in a monotone voice, which made it difficult to pay attention. She was absent several days at a time and offer no explanation for her absents.
she is very helpful. she give alot of asignment but it helps at the end. you have attend her class. i got an a- in her class. also do not hesistate to go to her office hours if you do not understand something.
she talks way too much about her personal life. very feminist. has a quiz on pretty much every chapter, but she'll give yu the answers right before you take it. has you write alot of papers that you'll never receive grades for. everyone ended up with an A. take her!
People, this is so simple. Attend class, read the book, and work hard on the writing assingments. That's it! Not sure about what some of the other are saying - she is organized and prepared for every class. And she didn't miss one class. A Great Instructor!
HARSH GRADER..DO NOT TAKE HER! AVOID THE PLAGUE!
could be better, you have to be a strong student to have a good grade in her class, if not the top student, she is a bit more concerned with her graduate work and her life than that of her students, don't take her class if you didn't get at least a B in your prior class
she's very knowledgeable about the materials & approachable when you need help, but prepare for alot of assignments and writing! she is perfectly clear about her expectations on assignments and as long as you follow them, you will pass the course. strength of your papers/argument will determine your grade- she is a challenge.
I'm an english major but she made this class impossible. She was totally disorganized and unclear. When I say unclear i mean she was bipolar in her writing critiques. If you're not an english major don't even think about clicking on the 'add' button.
Amazing teacher if u need help! A lot of assignments but she gives such great explanations and also will read her emails constatntly to make sure her students aren't struggling. Take her if u are serious about school because she will impact your knowledge grreatly! I wish she taught a wider variety of classes so I could take her again!
absolutly redic int of poetry class...do not take her. im an accomplished writer and i had trouble with this class... the final was terrible....shes real nice and stuff, but does is an extremely tough grader, and isnt clear of what she wants... class is stupid too.
I am not an english major and far from it. In professor Giffords class, if you attend, you learn to write for the future not just her class. Very easy and fair if you GO to class and write something acceptable not crap on paper. The post below is nuts and should not be accounted for. the kid is mad he got an F.
Take this professor. She is crystal clear. The only subject that was a little difficult was "you attitude." I highly recommend her.
Dr. Gifford is an excellent professor. She is very knowledgeable. Thanks to her instruction my professional written communication has improved . Her grading criteria is clear. Grades are mostly based on rewrites. If you follow the assignment instructions and heed her comments from the ungraded drafts, you will receive a good grade.
Good class and teacher
Ms Gifford is the best teacher I have had since I started at FAU. She is well prepared and takes great interest in her students. You have to work hard and complete your assignments but it will be worth it.I highly recommend her if you are serious about college.
I took her many, many moons ago when she was a humble community college instructor. I actually just found a paper I wrote for her on D.H Lawrence in the MLA database...published under one of her friend's names. I remember her telling me when I was in the class that my paper had sparked a discussion with her colleagues at FAU. I'm P*ISSSSSSED.
Easy as hell...lots of breaks
Maybe I just didnt get out of this class what everyone else did. I thought it was a lot of uninteresting work, unfairly graded, with an almost useless professor. Definitely need the textbook.
She is nice and sarcastic, how she grades papers is a little hard to master. She gives off a vibe that she doesn't want you to come to her office hrs. Unorganized, always forgetting to return papers but she's a good teacher overall. 3 (3-4 pg) papers and 1 presentation (2pgs)Don't come late to class, pisses her off. Miss >5 days= FAIL
Gifford was an OK professor. She grades pretty hard so if you're not good at writing, get some help. I did. Attendance is mandatory, you sign in at the beginning of class. We had 3 writing assignments (there was supposed to be 4), about 8 reading responses, and a presentation. It wasn't too bad, so if you have to take LIT2010, she's ok to take.
I loved her! Just finished her class for Interp. of Fiction and could not have chosen a better professor! She is incredibly helpful and if you ask her for help on papers, she gives you great ideas to work with. She's really nice and friendly and allows you to make up assignments if you tell her in advance you won't be in class to turn them in!
Extremely caring about her students and passionate about poetry. I had her for Interpretation of Poetry. she gives plenty of helpful input on papers and is open to suggestions on covering material that the class is interested in. Class discussions are extremely interesting. attendance is required and the textbook(very cheap)is definitely necessary.
great professor helps with everything take her great with feed back amazing all around
Please take her if you can. She made writing so much fun. She offered lots of helps on your papers. She wants everyone to succeed in her class. she often go above and beyond for her students. The best English teacher I had!
Class seems overwhelming but it's not only 4 papers if you take it in her 6 week summer class. I got a B+ and did everything the night before. She is super nice and sweet just me it look like you care and you will do amazing just but little effort in.
Dr. Gifford is one of FAU's better teachers. She is very approachable and clear. There were no tests, only a group project which was not so bad. There are a couple of reader-response assignments and an 8 page paper at the end of the semester. It was a very interesting class and if you have to take it, you will not regret taking her class.
Absolutely love Dr. Gifford. She is such a nice and helpful professor. I had no problems with her and she explains papers so clearly. Her essays for 1101 only had to 3 pages long. She is there to help if needed. Attendance is a major part of your grade so GO TO CLASS.
Take advantage of the peer reviews. She helps comes up with ideas for the topics. Papers are only 3 pages long but they make you think.
Shes a very nice lady who likes to crack some semi-funny jokes. She is not a tough grader and is always willing to help, especially if you go to office hours. Class just consists of peer reviews which is fairly simple.
She has a very specific way she wants you to write your essays especially for Lit2010. I would not say she is very clear. Most of the time she confused me because she would condradict everything she said. This made it hard for me to write my essays.
She's a very tough grader. She wants essays done very specifically to the style of her liking, and she's not very clear about exactly what she wants. She is somewhat helpful.
Professor Sheryl Gifford is an average instructor. She provides you with positive feedback and truly does care about how you end the semester, yet she is not the most organized. She is constantly pushing back dates when she is supposed to hand back final drafts and does not post grades on blackboard, so you basically have to calculate your grade.
Absolutely horrible professor. Terrible temperament and very unclear about assignments. She makes everything as complicated as possible, seemingly in attempts to trip up students. Very unwilling to help students when confused, and simply has no consideration for anyone other than attractive male students in the class. Avoid her at ALL costs!!!!
She's very disorganized and unprepared. She never passes back your assignments to show you your grades and she doesn't post midterm grades so you basically need to guess how well you're doing the whole semester. She made everyone come to class the day before Thanksgiving break just to tell everyone 5 minutes into class that she will cancel it.
Worst professor ever! This class was 2 credits, but should've been 4. She gives too much homework & makes you do a group project where you interview other professors & students & she gives too many long papers for this one project, some papers not even related to our project. She is the only teacher that waits until the last day to submit grades.
She is not a good professor. Class would be so pointless showing up. Very late at submitting grades. She is SUPER NICE AND FUNNY and class is very CHILL but as a professor she is horrible. Her grading is not clear, she changes things last minute and before you know it, class is cancelled. Don't take her if you don't have to.
I really enjoyed her class! I undertood her teaching style, she was clear in her directoins and she helped me become a better writer overall. She does asign a lot of papers but she grades quite easy in my opinion. I would take her again.
Awful professor; no clear plan and disorganized. Take too long to grade papers. Stay away if you can!
She is willing to work with you and helps you. The class is paper based and make sure to do them and use the criticism to improve your writing.
I absolutely loved her. Her lectures were interesting and I actually enjoyed going to class. The down side is that there are quite a lot of papers assigned throughout the semester, however she does a good job with feedback in order to improve your grade. I did find that she can be a tough grader but if you put in effort you'll do fine. I got an A
I found this professor really inspiring. Poetry is a difficult subject and she handled it beautifully.
She gave me depression.
She really does care and understands student life! She is very relaxed and knows what shes talking about. A really sweet woman, highly recommended.
She genuinely enjoys teaching the wonders of poetry and helps as much as she can!! You have to go to class, though, especially on response days. She lets you have up to 4 absences before it starts to affect your grade.
She is horrible, she doesnt put grades into canvas. When you bring up grade concerns she says to wait until THREE DAYS before the semester is over and shell tell you your grade. Paper prompts are ambiguous at best, even the people at the writing center have trouble helping with papers because she doesnt specify what you are supposed to argue.
Professor Gifford is an amazing teacher. If you are having difficulty and you voice it early on she will really work with you to better improve your grade. We were allowed revisions on outlines to improve grades. The final was a paper that we were given the prompt to a month before it was due. I would definitely take her again.
do not take her class. did not give grades until 3 weeks before semester was over. keeps dismissing class for no reason without notice. most unorganized class ever taken. choose another teacher, even though this class itself is not that hard, she did turn it into a hard class, and did not help at all with any feedback.
Okay professor. She grades very harshly and doesnt give clear instructions. She never puts anything in canvas not even midterm grades so you need to go to her office and schedule an appointment to see where you stand. She has two extra credit responses to help you out so show up to class do the work and you should at least get a B.
Overall she is a really sweet and caring woman and I did learn from her class. The class itself is not hard at all but she does give long prompts and a good amount of work. If anything, her class was just kind of quiet and boring but she was really nice :)
About 9 papers throughout the semester. All of them were about social media. Due dates were random and often two papers were due on the same day. Takes FOREVER to grade papers and doesn't update canvas until the end of the semester. Very harsh grader and gives little to none helpful feedback as to why you got the grade you recieved. AVOID her
-No lectures, but responds to any problems and concerns by email or class discussion board the next day. - 50% of your overall grade relies on final drafts, and she grades them very strictly. -Assignments are only worth 15% and are generally easy, but she can randomly assign them without warning and gives no make-ups for the missing work.
Honestly, as long as you submit your work on time and pay attention to her criticisms that she gives you and fix your mistakes along the way, you'll do fine. Consisted of one discussion board per/wk, 4 first drafts (2 pgs each) and 4 final draft papers (3 pgs each). Be aware she's a tough grader but always responds to your problems & will help you.
The teacher is respectful and matters what you think. The class is enjoyable if you actually enjoy poetry, but you learn a lot and the assignment really aren't as hard as you would think, I finished her assignments early and would just chill until next week because she had no lecture.
You get weekly discussion assignments, somewhere b/w 2-10 online assignments weekly, and 3-page drafts that are worth a majority of your grade. Tbh, she can be a pain in the ass at first, but she gives you extra credit opportunities and lets you make up one of your drafts near the end. Because of that, I went from a B to nearly 100% in the class.
Really nice professor. Easy class only consists of about 10 journal entries and 2 big papers.
I had taken this course in Running Start and was forced to repeat after transferring. This professor is a VERY tough grader and very strict with attendance. I received a 98 in the prior course and on the last day of class my course grade was a 95. Final grades were posted to which I received a B+. Therefore, she took mystery points away, be safe!
I took this course in Spring 2021. The class itself was easy, but for whatever reason, Prof. Gifford took an extensive time grading papers and she gave minimal feedback. Generally, a good English teacher gives feedback before the next writing assignment is due, which helps students to improve their writing moving forward.
Takes forever to grade and barely gives feedback. Lots of random papers and feels unnecessary. Mandatory attendance and absolutely no late work.
I was scared to take this class, but she was actually caring and clear. She clearly outlined things she was looking for so you knew how to get a good grade. I had many questions, so I would email her or go after class, and she always gave good feedback. There are a lot of assignments though so I wouldn't call it a super easy class.
This class is a breeze, honestly. 6 discussions and 6 short papers (1 of each per week for the first half of summer), 4 paragraphs each. The only problem is that she hasn't graded any of the first 3 papers, and the 4th is due this week, so it's impossible to know exactly what she wants and to improve to her standards.
This lady gives so many papers all on generally the same topic. Attendance is mandatory and her lectures are pointless. Absolutely no late work, I'd avoid her if possible.
Only 4 essays throughout the semester to work on and minimal online quizzes through achieve. Her grading is amazing with feedback and suggestions for the next essay! Very lovely professor
Mrs. Gifford gave out a lot of seemingly unnecessary homework assignments, which she graded very harshly, and it took out all the fun of reading and analyzing literature. I wouldn't take any classes again just because of how much busy work she gives out and that its due the next day. However she was prompt with responding to emails and issues.
She assigns work with very little substance. Peer reviews are LONGER THAN THE ESSAYS. Most peer reviews include sentences like "This *insert essay quality* was good". As previously stated, it seems as though assignments are just busywork. Not a difficult class until you have anything else going on like midterms or finals and then a long assignment.
As long as you do the work and peers reviews, you will pass. if you go to class you get extra points for participation and can get extra points for going to writing center for help.
One of the kindest teachers who truly cares about her students and is truly passionate about her job. She may give a lot of essays but the feedback she gives is amazing. She also gave so many chances for extra credit which you should take advantage of if you plan to take this teacher!
Her feedback was often vague if there at all. On our essay's final draft, she took points off from stuff she supposedly already told me to change in the rough draft, which is not true at all. She is a nitpicker and went against her syllabus on the last essay for the rough draft and final submission as late submissions would be given zero credit.
There is just an unbelievable amount of busy work. I already don't like english, and have the stuff just feels so useless to put in a college course.
She is kind of annoying - I took her as a hybrid class and was expecting an easy english class. I got my first C in an essay from her with very vague feedback. Luckily, I ended with an A but honestly, I wish I took a regular ENC1102 class that met twice or 3 times a week rather than just once a week but an annoying class.
The class has a lot of assignments, but the professor provides clear guidelines and helpful feedback. While attendance is mandatory, I found the lectures valuable. For study prep, I used unstuck study along with the textbook and was able to do well in the class.
all she does is read the instructions and she doesn't really explain in depth. And she is a tough grader on essays. But she's alright. she doesn't tell you how to improve when she grades unless u ask her after class. I tried my best on the essays and I kept getting c's no matter what.your feedback is the peer reviews. pls don't take her
she's a very rude lady l, selective on who she likes since it's a smaller class. Doesn't respond to emails ever!
She is a really harsh grader, and does not give much feedback. The lectures oftentimes end early, and are not very helpful.
