I dont know why people say bad about her. she is good, freindly,humurous,use really good examples,makes stuff easy &unforgettable.though pretty strict and her tests are not very easy but not too hard either.just study notes,Understand Dont just memorize.

She really is not that bad. If you are serious about the subject she is teaching, go to class and take good notes you are good to go. She is not a teacher that you can miss her class. Her exams are strictly off of her notes!!!!!!!

First, she is a great teacher..She is very experienced. She makes her lecture very interesting and clear. BUT...not easy tests. You will learn a lot if you take her. BUT.. STUDY..and STUDY REQUIRED

Dr. Shanhotzer is outstanding! She is not easy, but gives you all the information in clear, concise lectures and actually cares about you and your education. She stands out in a group that has the abysmal, Harry Daugharty, Andy Penniman, and Eric Sills. TAKE HER!!!! SHE ROCKS!!!

Tough but fair. Loves her subject matter!

She is an exceleent teacher. She explains evrything in an understandable way. There is a lot of notes in her lecture and her tests have some critical thinking questions, but there are bonus questions, which count 10 points of your grade. If you have any questions, ASK ASK, she will be happy to be explain whatever you need to in this course.

Take good notes and pay attention to "pet" names she uses for some of the material. If the subject matter and questions on her test were more clear, she could raise the overall grade and lower her drop rate. Study and know your material, or you will fail. She could also stand to give review and narrow the scope a little.

She's great. She's knows her stuff but u have to study though. She's a very good teacher,n has a lot of zeal too(Biology),always eager to listen and help.

Really intresting lectures, but her test questions are not always clear and she never reviews. Always willing to help though. Her lab classes are kind of annoying b/c of her expectations to always act as a scientist and write everything as a scientist. Overall she is not bad as a teacher.

Tests are mostly multiple choice with some fill in the blanks, short answer, and maybe a drawing. Test material comes directly from the notes, which comes from material in the book. Teaching style is easy to follow and she has given us a chance to earn 10 extra credit points this semester. Highly recommend.

Dr. Shanholtzer's class is not for the faint of heart. You'll have to know the subject inside and out. Her test questions are both general and specific, so it's best if you read the chapters before coming to class. She is always willing to help, so read/ study then go to her with questions. If you really stick with it you will KNOW BIO.

The course is very challenging because a lot of material needs to be covered, but she is very clear, helpful, and her lectures make things easier to understand. In my opinion, one of the best teachers at GPC.

I personally think she is a great teacher who actually teaches you how to think as a scientist/biologist. You can feel her passion in biology. However, her tests are extremely difficult. I had to spend an average of three hours a day to get an A. But I think it's worth it to take her class that you can actually learn a lot of things!

she is a knowledgeble teacher but tooo hard, its tough to ger a B in this class, too much work but for sure neccessary

Her lecture class is hard, and I would not recommend taking her if you want an A, but if you do want to learn then take the class. Her lab is much easier than lecture. She is very picky on the comp. notebooks, but she explains everything very well. Her final is not easy, but she tells you what to study. Take the lab, lecture others recommended.

Class is difficult, but not impossible. Teacher demands that you study, and not only memorize the material, but understand it. You will, however, walk out of class with a deep knowledge of the material. Take her if you have to take the MCAT or PCAT. The field trip also makes the class worth it. I don't care what you have to do, but find a way to go

She is friendly but too hard. It is not easy to make an A in her class. She doesnot like to give an A in her class. We work so hard in her lab which was very long and boring. Take her if you want to lower your grade.

I feel like I take 6 credits class in biology. She expects way too much for undergraduate students. The tests are freaking hard for 75 mins class. You should hire PhD guy in Bio to replace you to take her tests. But she is really clear n informative in giving her lecture. Hard to get an A

She is extremely hard.. Many people droped her class b/c they were failing. It's impossible to get an A. I studied so hard and still couldn't make even a B.

Funny and kind teacher.She expects you to know what she goes over.Yes-tests are hard and on the tricky side.If you're looking for an easy A,go elsewhere.She is extremely knowledgeable and will help anyone who asks for it.If you don't ask for it, it's your own fault.She does teach very fast-just ask lots of ?s to slow her down. I love this Dr. Shanholtzer. She knows her stuff, and she tries her best ti simplify and clarify the subjects. Her tests are not that bad, they are kind of long. However, if you attend her class,take her notes, go to her office to ask her questions, you should be more than fine. She is nice, helpful, and has passion towards biology.

She is a great, knowledgeable teacher who can put things into layman's terms;however,she expects you to know the info backwards and forwards on a test.There is no memorizing in her class - you know it or you don't. I really look forward to taking her again someday on another class. I made a B, but if I'm honest that was the effort I put into it.

Great teacher! She will work you to death, but its worth it. She's tough, but will definitely help you every step of the way. Her tests require you to know everything in depth (and understand it, not just memorize). I had her for 2107 and 2108 lab and lecture, and I wish I could take all my biology classes in the future with her. She's so funny :)

She is very knowledgeable and helpful. She knows her stuff and expects you to know it come test time. She will not hand you a good grade you have to work for it. But come on people this is college it takes effort sorry if this is a wake up call for you.Great professor i learned a lot and the field trip was awesome.

I took Dr. Shanholtzer for lecture & lab for 2107 & 2108 and managed to EARN an A in them. She DOES expect you to learn, know, and understand, but she cares about your success as a student. Go to class, take notes & study them. I feel I have a great foundation for the rest of the biology classes that I will be taking. My favorite teacher at GPC.

She's hard, but if you're interested in learnin biology you should take her class. She does her part and expects u to do yours to earn the grade. Sometimes she gives review sessions in her office before the test. Her exams can be tough because of the way she phrases her multiple choice questions. But overall she's the best biology teacher at GPC.

She is a good teacher/knows the material very well, but is a HARD grader. She will not give back any points. Be as detailed as possible and don't try to B.S. her. If you want to KNOW biology and don't care about GPA, then this is the class for you. If GPA is your main concern, I suggest you take someone else, her class isn't what you're looking for

Great professor. The most rewarding class I've ever taken in college. She's fun & goofy. She makes sure every one of her students understand the material. It would be a mistake to run away from her. It's college; learn to deal with the work.

You all really need to check yourselves if the only thing you wish to take from college are easy 'A' grades to show off. Wake up people.

Dr S is a hard but fair professor. She's kinda goofy/weird/funny. Don't expect an easy A. She will not baby you;i.e. no practice exams, no study guides, no curve, no dropped exams. I EARNED my A in both her lecture and Lab. You'd be surprised how much you learn when your prof doesn't spoon feed you. 3% bonus curve on exams. You'll need itlol

She knows her stuff, and is a thorough teacher. If you want to learn, she is a great teacher. Her tests are hard - you don't simply regurgitate facts - you have to understand the material to answer the questions. I would take her again.

Dr.Shanholtzer is very good at what she does, truly college level style of teaching.I learned alot in her class.If it's hard,don't get mad at her for it because she really teaches you to think critically.Whatever grade you get is what you earned,don't expect freebees.Her lectures are very crucial.Very good professor =)

Dr. S is one of the best. She really pushes you to learn the material and understand concepts, but thats college. She is very fair and willing you work with you. She brings an excitment to the material that really keeps it interesting. I earned an A in lecture and lab. I would absolutly take a course with her again!

i've taken dr. shanholtzer for both 2107&2108. i don't know whats taken me so long to write this because i've always wanted to add a rating for her. she loves the subject that she teaches. her exams aren't the easiest but they're fair. there's only 3-4 exams, no hw, no quizzes. she gives you 2nd chances on hard questions that a lot of ppl missed.

I took her for the lab and it feels like she favors some people who are particularly in her lecture. She does give you the possibility to recheck you lab book, but lab is all about favorites, seriously. As much effort you put in it- not really much counted.

I think Dr. S is great. She has a lot of sayings that help make the material click: DNA is the cook book, RNA is a recipe & glucose beads in starch necklace. She is NOT easy, but she is fair. Her tests are hard, because they require you to reason things out from info you know. You must attend all classes & read material or you will not do well.

She's one of the best professors. you will learn alot in her class. I miss her teaching. It's hard to find a good professor like her. :(

I took her for both lab and lecture. She isn't the easiest teacher, but I really appreciate Dr. S. She loves bio and it shows in her teaching. Go to open lab to look at slides and understand what you're reading for lecture. She is a really nice lady and fair

I now attend another school, and I am several biology classes further along. I agree there are definitely easier biology teachers than Dr. S. However, I truly feel that her teaching style forced me to get a strong grasp on certain concepts early on, which helped so much in later classes. I believe taking Dr. S gave me an advantage in later courses.

I suggest u come to class with a goal of doing well. don't come to class high and u will succeed. fun and reasonably easy. She is PHD and she writes the textbook for the class. there is not one bad thing i can say about her class. it was a really easy A for me. i saw some fail her class but i think they were so irresponsible hence. failing.

Dr. S is a professional biologist and instructor. She is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the course material. Her goal is to make students as informed and enthusiastic about Biology as she is. Her exams are tough but acceptable given her comprehensive and brilliant instruction. Not a casual Biology class but extremely rewarding!

Absolutely loved this class, she is an excellent teacher and very fair. Super smart woman and very inspirational. Tests are a little tough, but if you put in the work, it will show in your grades.

Shanholtzer is a decent lab professor. She wrote the lab manual so she knows exactly what the experiments ask for. She cares about her students and will work hard to ensure everyone understands the required concepts. Midterm and final are pretty hard for lab, however, due to the sheer amount of information. She is very passionate about biology.
