Very pleasant teacher, and works with students to make the class as pleasant and easy without giving the grade away.

She is very nice but she pops up quizes out of no where and they are hard.

She encouraged creativity and was a blast. I really enjoyed her class.

She is a great instructor at TCC. I think she is the best one their and very helpful. She does give pop quizes but they are very easy. She is an awesome English teacher!!

Why is it that a strong black teacher has to be playing the race card? I think she is a great teacher. If you read the book the pop quizzes are easy. Complete your assignments and you could get an A. She won't baby you by reminding you about each assignment. You have to read the syllabus. High school is over. I'm taking her again for Eng 2.

I don't know what most of your problems with her is. some of you put that she isn't clear on her work but EVERYTHING is on Campus Cruiser the first day of class. Complaining about to much homework. they are easy READ THE BOOK and you wouldn't have a issue.

Already posted my review, but wanted to say that I was definitely not a pet of hers to get that A. I just didn't talk back when she changed something or gave an assignment that wasn't on the schedule. I just sucked it up and did it! Like a mature adult. Don't take her if you are a whiny brat who can't handle her very simple assignments.

I have no idea why she has such a bad rating, she was so easy! And super funny. I took her during Summer for Eng Comp II and she was very interesting and fun. Maybe she's different with Comp I or something but she is a very good teacher for Comp II. I passed with an A. I would definitely recommend her and take her again.

Take her DL course! Its easy! The test questions are verbatim from the book and the papers are fairly simple. The research paper is a little crazy, but it is a research paper. She is a little out there herself but all in all a great teacher. Do not go off the other reviews!

I cannot believe prof. Riley has such bad ratings. She was one of the easiest English teachers I've ever had. I took her in the summer and made an A. Her essays were pretty self-explanatory, there wasn't much (can't remember how many though) and if you don't understand something, you're supposed to TELL her and she's willing to help.

Professor Riley was fantastic. I loved this class. She was easy to understand and always gave very specific guidelines. I don't understand why she has so many bad reviews! If you put in the work, you will pass. She even put our largest assignment in the middle of the semester, in order to make the end of the semester easier on us.

She makes the class easy and clear to understand. I had personal issues this semester and i still managed to get a B.

I took Riley for both 1301 and 1302. I got an A both semesters and was working 40+ hours per week with 12 credit hours of school. She is fairly strict but with good reason. And if you have personal issues during the semester she will work with you. Also when I took her if you had perfect attendance you didn't have to take the final!

I took Ms. Riley for Comp II. I completely disagree with her ratings! She is an excellent teacher and her class was fun and interesting. She has a charming personality and is very helpful. The coursework was in no way difficult. All you have to do is attend class. She reviews all work in class and basically gives the test answers verbaitum to study

Prof Riley is a very good instructor. her instructions are very clear and class is extremely interesting. Loved class discussions. My only issue was getting out of class on time.

easy class took her for comp one and two made a A both times easy extra cedit wrot a poem and read it outloud an stage by the big checker board

Mrs. Riley overall is a great teacher! Just show up to class and everything will easy plain and simple...only three papers basically. She can be funny sometimes and is willing to help you out if you need it. Does extra credit too so take advantage of that!

If you show up and do your part you will learn. Reading assignments prepare you for class disscussions, do your homework. She gives you study guides. It isn't an easy grade, in fact it is a worthwhile grade because you earn it.

Attend class,turn in assigments, be on time, ask questions. Shewanda Riley is willing to assist.Just do the work you will pass the course.

Very easy to understand, attend class, be on time, do assignments, paricipate in class you will do well. I passed with an A. Fall 2012

Overall she is a good professor, however the one case in which I would not recommend taking her is if you are taking another class which requires a lot of attention

Ms Riley is no joke!! She is strict on you but its all for your benefit. She gives out extra credit options. If you do what she says, its an easy A. Dont get on her bad side. She doesnt not play when it comes to talking when she is talking. She also does not allow electronic devices, especially no cell phones. I would recommend her.

I've seen bad reviews and her and how she favors men, but I think that's based on bad experience. I feel like she is the type of professor who will empower you to do better. No excuses for males or females. I had a very tragic thing happen to me this semester and she worked with me without the pity party. I appreciated that. Work done A

Do your major paper assignments and daily assignments. I took Professor Riley for both English 1301 and 1302 and received an A in both classes. You must spend a decent amount of time on each assignment in order to make sure there are no grammar errors within your paper. Follow her instructions and if you have a question email her.

Please take this class, Do Not do Online (Most Online English Courses are crazy hard anyway). If you show up i swear you will at least get a B, I got an A and missed 5 days over the summer. Just read, 40% of your grade is participation anyway. 3 Essays (1 Short, 1 2pg) and a Final Essay which is a broad topic about anything you learned. Just try!

My terrible experience with 1301 or 1302 dreaded going back to her, however, i'm convinced after completing American Lit she enjoys these students much better. I dont know why but all we ever talk about were today's works such as Science Fiction (shes a Sci-Fi Buff) or debates on society. Hardly any reading at all and two essay! Take her for Lit!

This class is truly great and i'm a Science Major so it makes it even better when you don't need to read long stories. We read roughly 5-6 pages a day which is honestly nothing. No long Essays at all 3 at most and that's including the final. We talked about society issues and in class participation is 50% of your grade soo easy if you just show up.

Professor Riley is my all time favorite! If you engage in class you'll do great. She is hilarious, and cares about students. I was hesitant to take this course due to her reviews but I don't know who everyone else got because she is the best. I took her for both comp 1 & 2. TAKE HER!!!!!!!

Ms. Rileys coarse was good. It was challenging and engaging. You will write papers,it is English class. Go in with an open mind. Do the reading assignments they arent hard. Participate in class discussions. Take the feedback you get and improve those things. If you get an F it's because you earned one. Stay off ur cell phones unless you like quizes

Riley is one of my all time favorite teachers! Making class an enjoyable environment to be in, I made sure not to skip her class. Make sure to take it in class and not online.

Professor Riley is so upbeat & fun. She has zero tolerance for cell phone use during class so please respect her time & yours. She doesn't overwhelm you with papers, but there are reading assignments & quizzes. She challenges your critical thinking skills so apply yourself & you'll do well. Not a blow off class. I loved being her student.

TAKE HER CLASS! I took Riley for 1301 and 1302 and LOVED HER. She's funny and smart. She hates phones, Take one out and get a pop quiz. Reading assignments -paper-lecture. the basics but she makes it fun. She walks you through every step in the essay process for every paper. Her tests are easily passable. She's understanding of a busy schedule.

She is alright, just don't mess around because she will get on you

Professor Riley is very upbeat and enthusiastic about the material she teaches and her classes are always interesting. She is a fair grader and the assignments are neither too difficult nor too easy. Her glaring flaw is that she is extremely strict about students not using phones(or even laptops for the most part) during class.

Took her over the spring term, she is very nice and tries to help you succeed. She choses a theme to use throughout the semester that makes things really fun and interesting. Grades easy on papers if you use the correct format and answer the prompt you'll do great. A little of short reading passages and easy quizzes if you read. Would take again!!!

Professor Riley is absolutely incredible. I took 1301 in class & couldn't have asked for a better professor. I took her 1302 class online not knowing if I would drop or not because I was extremely pregnant & due that semester. I received an A+ in both classes while writing essays with a newborn on my chest & no sleep. If you dream it you can do it.

I have had her two times now and enjoyed her class a lot. She always gives the semester a theme so you are not just doing pointless work, it always relates to a theme. In my composition one class the theme was failing forwards and composition two was about Disney movies. She is very caring and wants you to succeed. Very easy to make an A.

show up and pay attention. In my opinion if you're on your phone or doing some other class work that Is rude and she will call you out on it. sit through your lecture and do Hw and you pass. You get what you put into it.

Hey honestly, it was a lot of reading for the first half, then it got easier. she is a very good teacher and encourages you to express your opinion and she will give you feedback. I was never bored, I took this for maymester- so that's why it was kind of a lot the first week. I would take her again if I could. The website making is the best part!

Ms. Riley is an excellent professor if you want to improve your writing. She's really strict about attendance and will throw more daily assignments in when she sees that attendance is low - there are SO many daily classwork grades. Her material is very interesting though - we analyzed Tupac for a poetry assignment.

An amazing instructor! Would 1,000% take her class again. Keep up with the given reading assignments and ask questions. If you put the effort in, it's an easy A!! Keep your phone on silent that way if you need to take a call you can. She's understanding if you talk to her beforehand. Lots of moms and wives so communication is key with Ms. Riley

She is an amazing teacher!!!!! She has brought food to class multiple times and really cares about her students. Show up on time, be respectful, and stay awake then you will pass.

Professor Riley is always willing to work with you. She is easy to communicate over email and easy to reach her in her office. She is caring and understands what it feels like to be a student and have a job and life outside of class. Loved her lectures and learned a lot from her. 4 major essays and helps you to plan for success!

Professor Riley is an amazing professor who cares about her students' success. She is always available to answer questions and provides great instructions! I feel as if every assignment we completed was for a reason and there was no wasted time! I would definitely take another class from her!

Professor Riley's English class was my first English class in two+ years, now saying that she worked with me and helped me be successful in her class beyond what I thought possible. She is awesome take her class you will LOVE IT( and if you are in person she may bring food)!!!!

I am not even finished with taking this course but I absolutely love Professor Riley. She is very personable and light. Meaning in her emails she really spends the time and doesnt make them all about the class. As well as adding some off topic things even about the weather which I love. As well Professor Riley is very understanding!

She is an amazing professor with a great personality. The best way to put it is that she is like the cool aunty but in a teaching position. Do the work expect a few quizzes and actually work on your essays and you'll be fine.

Very nice constructive professor, felt like every assignment/discussion board was graded very fairly. If you try your best and do your peer review with purpose for each other, you should get an A.

I do feel as if she is a tough grader and the tone in emails can be a little off BUT she is a great professor who if you ask for help or for clarity on something, she will explain in depth. Shes very passionate and no doubt you will grow because of her class. MLA -dont forget it.

Dr. Riley truly made me a better writer with the assignments in class. I loved picking apart stories and poems and seeing literature through a more in depth view. You will have papers to write but she is so helpful and very clear on what she expects. Take her!

She will give ALL late work a 0 and no option or chance to make it up. you got one chance to get it straight. she tells you to use communication to pass her class but she doesn't compromise or help. she is here to show you how she views and sees English and if you don't show her respect by doing her work on time she will not show you some either

Best teacher Ive had at TCC. Shes very funny and her assignments are straight forward. She gives great explanations and is always willing to help.
