The best physics professor ever! Reasonable workload and expectations for non-stem majors. Free textbook, tests are very similar to HW problems and example problems. Class is completely asynchronous. He emails you back so quickly. Work hard and be polite and communicate and you'll be fine. :) Highly recommend!

worst teacher ever, he would not explain any of the materials , but instead he would provide Youtube links to watch!! what a joke. whats your job then? to post the youtube links of others!!! doesnt have any respect for his students, he sent a notice regarding the exams, keep your paper in case he call a student to explain the exam solutions!!!

Lots of homework

Not sure why some people give him bad ratings, they clearly have him confused with someone else. Took his online class PHYS 310. ANYONE can get an A. HW is multiple choice, unlimited attempts. Tests are EXACTLY the same as the HW questions. NO FINAL! Content isn't easy but ANYONE can get an A. VERY helpful, super nice guy. (Not the best lecturer)

Each chapter he had 25 question tests that were unlimited retakes for the homework, and the tests were only 5 questions. There were 20 chapters for the semester and no midterms or finals. He was happy to help students and had a book, however, his lectures covered the book material.

Prof Young is great. I don't like science classes, but I really enjoyed ASTR 300. There are a lot of video lectures and hw and quizzes for each chapter, but its doable. Unlimited attempts to get 100% on hw, and the quiz after is just 5 questions from the hw. Do the work, get an A. I would definitely take Prof Young again, very fun class.

Great lecturers: covers material on tests/homework, funny, interesting. Sometimes hard to understand because of an accent but does not impact class if you are giving your full attention to the lecture. Average reading requirement, some math, lots of formulas to remember. Doe does not require the latest version of the book.

Took Physics 310 with Professor Young. I honestly can't say anything wrong. It was clear what you are expected to do, you can use an older version of the textbook, but I'm sure you can find it for free online. Passing this class is not hard if you do your work.

Great Professor! Very thorough and easy to understand. Lots of attempts on the homework, one attempt on the quizzes; super easy to pass as long as you keep up on your reading and lectures.

Easy class to not learn anything, grade 50% 25 question hw, infinite retries, & 50% 5 question quizzes, 1 try. Hard accent, uses old lecture videos & doesn't include many examples on how to use the formulas & which to use. Hw questions ALL written in a trick way, which makes learning & practicing difficult. Questions arent thourghouly described.

If you have to take physics, you have to do it with Shih-Wen. He's so caring and kind. He's very understanding of people who have high units, and he's the professor who cares the most about you getting a good grade. I almost hesitate to write this because I'd take him again, and I'm afraid one of you is going to take my spot in the waitlist smh

Such a sweetheart! Take his section if you have a busy schedule—asynchronous learning via free textbook + short lecture videos with in-person labs. Most grading is with homework, labs, and quizzes (he does weekly quizzes instead of exams, it's easier!). The final is worth about 10% of your grade. Stay disciplined and study, and you'll pass!

This class was online there are lecture videos and links, Most of the time you are on your own learning the materials yourself. However, his structure is pretty straightforward the lecture videos are less than 30 min (there are 3 to 4 videos in one section). This professor is very accommodating and will fix any mistakes that have been made.

BEST PROFESSOR EVER!I took him for physics 410 and 421. 421 was so hard, however he made it so fun and easy. He give full points just for doing your homework and attending the lab, for exams he is really a good grader, he give points for every step you write. I really really loveee him, and I'm so sad that he doesn't teach 431.

Loved Shih-Wen! He is truly passionate about physics and this was a very straight-forward class in terms of what he wanted. His online lectures were great and in person labs were fun and collaborative. As for quizzes, they are similar to one homework problem with different numbers, so be sure to actively understand the homework! Only had one exam.

confusing lectures with a lot of rambling, you do have to teach yourself a lot. only one quiz a week with one homework problem, and one final. however this doesn't facilitate actual learning and long term retention. it does make it easy to limp through the quizzes, but it all comes back for the final. easy A, but be prepared to teach yourself.
