Shil is a fair grader; he gives a heavy dose of constructive criticism to help you write your paper better when you revise it. He's also sarcastic and very knowledgeable in pop culture. Shil is a really nice guy with a magnetic personality. Definitely a great prof to have for a gen ed course. He is a fair grader and is extremely clear with what he expects from us. I took this course with Shil during an 8 week summer session. Unlike other English professors, he allows you an option to rewrite papers as many times as you'd like in order to better your writing. Class was never boring. Attendance and participation matter. You'll have some short readings as hw but nothing too bad. He's a bit of a tough grader but you're allowed to rewrite the essays as many times as you want. He always gives great feedback for every essay so you'll know what he wants from you. you can rewrite papers so its really easy to pass. the discussions are always something that'll relate to you. he doesn't make you read boring novels or anything but will talk about real problems in society. he will take you out of your comfort zone, point out things to you, and really make you open your eyes and think. take this class if you can!!

Shil's a tough grader but you can rewrite essays so you can do well in his class. Other than that, show up, participate and you'll be fine. Super laid back, class discussions were always interesting. Cursing encouraged and no topics off limits. Very casual atmosphere. Had us call him by his first name, never Professor. BUT he is the toughest grader I've ever had. If it wasn't for rewrites he allowed, my grade would have been WAY worse. Def not an easy A but def a good professor

He keeps the prompts for papers current so when you write about it and talk about it in class everyone is engaged. Shil gives the BEST feedbacks so you will improve. He also has this unlimited rewrite policy that you most definitely should abuse. Sometimes Shil talks a lot and tells a lot of personal info but that keep the class lighthearted.

One of the best, if not the best professor you will ever have. You will definitely be required to read for class, because you are required to participate in class which is worth 13% of your grade. The best professor I've had. He's always super considerate of his students. If you email him, expect quick replies. He's honest and will make you smile a lot. Generally very educated in anything he talks about and more. His classes are discussion based so all you have to do is do the work and you'll pass.

If you need your first WRIT 105 class, take him. He gives great, detailed feedback and is very considerate of students. You'll definitely always have great discussions that are thought invoking and fun. You will have some work to do, but it's not overbearing like other writing classes. This was the most enjoyable and informative class that I have ever taken in college. Shil is a very relatable, smart, and understanding person and the lectures are incredibly informative and interesting.

This class was amazing, we had insightful discussions that students could lead and the professor helped steer us along. We had two papers and he was a bit of a tough grader, as for the first the highest grade in the class was 85. But the class, conversation, and environment was engaging, hilarious, and stimulating.

I highly recommend this class if you are someone who wants to learn more about the LGBTQ+ community. The class is very discussion based and Shil is amazing when it comes to making sure everyone is heard. He does have very high expectations when it comes to papers but gives oppurtunities for rough drafts to be submitted and rewrites! Shil is cool.

About 12 discussion posts, 1 presentation, 1 short paper (1250words), 1 long paper(2000words). If you like writing and dislike exams, Shil is your guy. Central focus of class is discussions, make sure you participate and get ready to talk a lot.

Really great prof. Doesnt give any tests and only gives some discussions to participate in, one presentation and two papers. Two long papers are definitely graded at higher standards than everything else. But he gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit

No exams or quizzes, but because of that he's a tough grader on the two papers for the course. Expect a discussion every week. He replies to emails fast and is pretty understanding of personal situations and is willing to help you however he can.

The class is stressful only because he grades so harshly and he gives huge assignments that weigh heavy on your final grade. I also do not like that he grades harshly on participation because we discuss controversial and triggering topics at times so people shouldn't feel forced to speak. Very nice and super considerate guy though

I loved Shil so much! Everyone should get the pleasure to have a class with him! His class is very interactive and fun. He does assign less heavier weighted assignments but you have opportunities to improve your grade if you don't do well on an assignment. If you submit your essay early you automatically get a b!

Shil is super funny and the class is such an open space to talk freely about pratically anything. He always finds a way to relate even the silliest topics to the course, and is super engaging with the students. Very caring and understanding and i miss him lol

Awesome professor! Took him in the fall for WRIT 105 and in the spring for WRIT 106. Nicest guy on two feet. Funny, interactive, he makes class so interesting. He gives so many opportunities to improve you grade, with a rough draft and even a rewrite after you submit the final. I can't stress enough how much I recommend his course.

My class made up the syllabus and chose participation to be 20% of our grade. If you didn't talk in class for a week or two your grade would go down. Graded on two essays, class participation, and a presentation (he skipped over some). You can tell he cares about this subject and the class but if you don't like talking in class DO NOT take him.

He's tough in the sense that you have to care and actually think about the content, you can't be surface level - but that's not that hard to do, no matter how ambivalent you are, because he's good at choosing topics and engaging students. Excellent teacher for GLQS. The reading is not too heavy, shifting from the textbook to student-interest material. Projects are pretty straightforward, and he does not require too much writing. The class is meant to get you aware of the Queer community and it does well. The lectures are entertaining, and class discussions are great!

Lots of character. Super fun and charismatic. You can have some fun discussions with him if you care to talk in class. Honestly makes the time go quicker. You watch a lot of good movies and shows for this class. It is a hefty amount of writing but it teaches you a lot and he gives great feedback.
