(Lecture class) Interesting lectures/discussion in class but did not particularly pertain to the tests. Also, notes are pointless in studying for exams. Very narrow-minded towards Libertarian viewpoints. I had a 4.0 before this class & got the only "C" ever. (even with B's on the tests!) I am politically active so it was quite a surprise.
Absolutely disagree with prior comment. Dr. Amichigh gives a study guide before all tests that completely cover the test. He encourages open discussion (I'm a Libertarian too!) and gives 100% to the class. Don't know what the previous poster's problem was, but with a little work I got an A.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Stays on the subject matter, makes his class interesting, allows for all point of views. I have learned a lot in this class.
I like his style of teaching, very knowlegeble in the subject he teaches. If you attend the class and take notes you should do well on his test. Great proffesor.
This proffesor is very professional, stays on the topic matter, very fair and balance. ACC needs to hire for teachers like him, I took Texas gov with Mr.Garlow and he was awful.
Never used text book in class. Test were over material that was rarely covered
I had him last year. He rambles alot, and talks about weird stuff. Something about taking bribes when he was a congressional secretary in africa.lolz, and yes thats what he said. You need to read the book alot to do tests. Talking about politics was fun but we went off topic alot. Not an easy A due to alot of reading but not that hard either.
Just go to the website and do the practice quizzes and memorize the glossary and you will pass. I did online and you have 3 tests, 1 research paper on a supreme court case, and 10 discussions on blackboard.
Mr. Amachigh is really nice outgoing and helpful. He encourages discussions in the class, and does not impose his opinions. You can easily get an A if you can take good notes (if not stay away) and study the test review. The main part of his exams is all about what his lecturing in class.
Nice guy but wants you to ask questions & give your opinion. Big on class dicsussion that can be very long and get off-track. Take good notes of what he does lecture on as a good deal of the tests come from his material. There were 3 tests (multiple-choice & 1 short essay). Also, a 5 page research paper on a Supreme Court case was required.
Great teacher. If you have perfect attendance, he gives you 100 extra points a the end of the cycle. He needs to work on staying on pont, but all I did was study the online quizzes, and I did fine. I looked forward to his class for the open discussions. Outstanding man, and class.
The worst nightmare. He rumbles a lot, nonsense "old English vocabulary". He doesn't offer his help to students. I don't recommend to anyone. Is hard to fulfill his expectations.
I felt Dr. Amachigh was a good teacher. His lectures covered the test material. He was very exact about what he wanted from the short essay questions on the test. Study the review questions and take the online quiz for each chapter. Extra credit for perfect attendence! :)
tends to get off track ALL THE TIME, never finishes the chapters on time because the class tends to join in on his random rants, and so far every single test has been moved back by at least 3-4 class periods. Not an easy grader either on the paper you have to write
Took distance learning, ridiculously hard. Reading the textbook is not enough. Apparently, you have to do additional research in order to get an A on the test. Discussion boards are grading tough and nothing is a completion grade. I would say probable C, and impossible A.
This is the first class I've ever had to drop. I came into this class with high hopes and quickly realized he had little to no interest in helping his students.
It's important to read the book before the class/lecture. Take good notes, and share with a classmate, so if you do miss a class, you can still get the notes. It's also important to take the online quizes from the book, and do the research project early. GREAT class and Professor!
I took Dr. Amachigh for U.S & TX Government and made an A in both classes. His classes are challenging, but you will learn. The key is to attend class everyday, complete the test review, read the chapters, and start on the research papers early. He is a very fair professor and his lectures are very interesting.
He is very nice, but dont try to leave class early, he doesnt like this. if you need to leave early tell him before hand. READ THE BOOK BEFORE CLASS. He likes people who talk alot and ask questions. you get points for it. get started on the paper early. Gets most of his questions off of the online pratice test thats on the back of the book.
He is a great teacher. Make sure you PARTICIPATE in the class discussions cause it makes the diff between an A and a B. Do the review thoroughly and take good notes. He does an outline of the notes, but it won't help much on the review. Study for the test and you'll do fine. Make sure to know definitions. And READ the book!
I took this class online in a summer II session. This professor picks and chooses when he wants to deviate from the syllabus but uses it as a crutch to not have to teach. He doesn't actually grade assignments, just puts a numerical value on them. He also does not offer help or guidance when requested and seems to use this need against a student.
I took this distance learning which he has a definite bias against. It took days for him to respond to emails in short session. Doesn't provide helpful feedback,or clear instructions for paper. Posts grades after much delay. Test reviews he provides will get you a B. Got an A so it's possible enough. Just had no certain idea of standing throughout.
I have never dropped a class until I had this prof. terrible. I don't kniw why ACC keeps him as a teacher.
I took his online class, and I had to drop it. Awful teacher. He took a very long time to respond to my questions, and when he did he just responded with "read your syllabus." Tests had nothing to do with the reviews he gave. He really shouldn't teach online course.
Terrible teacher! You can't understand him very well and his tests are really hard. I had to drop the class because I was doing so bad in his class. He did offer extra credit a couple of times but not enough. He is funny but besides that he is not too good.
Took DL class. Very interesting. Taught with non-political party bias but thoughts encouraged (if backed up). Lots of reading. Exam questions often referred to previous edition of text. Speak up if you find these for extra credit. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Prof Amachigh responds to emails within a day. V fair. Will curve grades at end.
WORST TEACHER EVER! So hard to understand. The tests where paragraph answers. Horrible.
I thought he was great! I learned a lot and had fun doing so. I didn't take notes, just showed up to class and got a B. if I had tried a small bit harddd I could've had an easy A.
Proff Amachigh is a great teacher contrary to what others are saying about him. The test material is directly from the book and my guess is that if you dont get an A in his class, its because you didn't show up to class or read. He does give short answer questions, but it is only like 1 out of 4 questions that he will tell you the answer to.
He provides you with detailed study guides, as well as power points for everything covered in class. In addition, he assigns plenty of extra-credit. He really want to see you do well in the class. I took 2305 lecture and 2306 online and got an A in both! I could not speak more highly of him!
Best teacher ever! offers so much extra credit and the book had plenty of study material.
Such a great teacher! Actually makes government fun and I enjoyed participating in every lecture. I don't understand why everyone doesn't rate him 5 stars. I say 5 stars all the way, I hated govt he made me relate and find interesting. Also helped me understand the material enough to get As on all my tests. So much extra credit too. Try and easy A.
If you read the chapters, then you'll pass just fine. I got a B and barely studied. Shina is a cool guy, but not the best professor. There's probably better government teachers out there, but this one is easy and gives plenty of extra-credit.
Read the book, participate in class discussions and ask questions if you have them. He will answer them. Very knowledgeable and open to ideas as long as you are, too. He offers so much EC it's almost ridiculous. Good Prof.
Very confusing, his tests are not on his lectures and on the quizzes he offers. He is a nice guy, very friendly but very confusing, you read the book, do the quizzes and still get a 70, and I love government. If you have an option of a another teacher take it, if not, just read the book and participate.
Nice guy, can be humorous. I think he refuses to give a 100 on anything. Tests can be tricky as some stuff is not clearly stated in lecture or the textbook. He gives lots of opportunities for extra credit, and gives grades based on participation and attendance. Not the best, not the worst.
Simple process for taking his class and getting an A: 1) show up to class 2) participate in class 3) LISTEN to his lectures 4) READ the book. ***For an 'A' on his tests, 3&4 are the most important. Not a hard class by any means; pay attention and do your work and you'll be fine. Does offer a ton of extra credit and curved every test.
I wouldn't recommended anyone take this teacher for online. It more of diy, absolutely no feedback, help, or communication with the teacher or students. There no study guide or anything that gives us an idea what we should know or study for too.
Really passionate and an awesome professor! He gives A LOT of extra credit opportunities and really tries to help his students make the best grade possible. I would definitely recommend him.
Took this class distant learning and was very disappointed. He provides no powerpoints or supplements on bb so I went into the test not knowing what to expect. I went to speak with him about my paper grade and found out he just stuck a grade on it and "there's no way he has time to read every paper". Worst teacher I've ever had online or in class!
Do not take him for online!! Eveything is DIY! He doesn't reponse or give any feedbacks and absolutely no tips. There is no test preparation/study guide or anything that gives us an idea what we should know. Expect for reading the damn boo,k which doesn't help at all. He also doesn't give a fair grade on paper assignment.
I am usually an A or B student and left this class with a C. Tests are confusing. No homework but you are expected to read the book which barely helps. He is willing to help you if you ask, don't miss a class and you will get extra points for perfect attendance.
passionate about Government, can really tell he loves his job, very respectful of others views, enjoys a good debate, he does expect college level work, has an accent that is a little hard to understand, power points don't help, listen and take notes on what he says, read the book and do the extra credit quizzes test questions come from them
Study guides and tests do not match up.
Great guy, but come on 4 chapters per test and his test do not match lectures. His lectures are good very detailed and if the test match the lecture it would be a good course. Lots of reading.
Really great teacher!! Very helpful and fun guy, ,makes the class very enjoyable and it's not that hard. If you read your text book and study the test reviews it will be a breeze. I highly recommend his class, he also has a lot of extra credit opportunities. Took for US and Texas Government.
Horrible feedback and takes forever to grade. The reviews are unhelpful and even lead you in the wrong direction. The PowerPoint's provided are not useful, because they are the ones he uses when he lectures, so there is no content to link them together. Unless you memorize the book or are a poli-sci major you will not make an A in his course.
There are very few grades, so each test matters. The final is ostensibly optional, but it should be taken anyway to bump up any of the four mandatory test grades. Prof has very organized lectures, is opinionated, but always prioritizes letting students respond to his opinions and there is a lot to discuss. He unilaterally protects disagreement. A+
I took Amachigh online for TX gov this summer, I am a straight A student but got a C in this. Tests are stupid hard as well as tricky, and reviews are vague and unhelpful. I studied like crazy for these tests, more than I've studied for Sciences or Maths and still did awfully. Little to no feedback and takes forever to grade.
I had his class for us government and loved it. I decided after moving downtown I would travel to take his TX and Local government class. I was not dissapointed. Pay attention in class and you can get an A. Give many opurtunities for extra credit. Participation in class is a large portion of grade. Show up and ask questions and you will be fine.
He is very funny and does a good at keeping the class entertained. The tests are kind of difficult and there is a lot to study. He will always answer any questions that you have and loves when students participate. His lectures are very useful for the tests but not good enough unless you actually read the textbook.
His powerpoints are extremely vague & practically useless. His test reviews cover every single topic covered in the 4-5 chapters, so be prepared to spend all of your time studying for his tests. He does, however, offer extra credit at the beginning of the semester & I highly suggest you do it if you want to pass with a decent grade.
Poor communication, took incredibly long to respond to vital contacts. Unprofessional. Poor grading criteria. Tests are only offered online (not at a Testing Center) and prof has no understanding of computer/internet issues unexpectedly arising. You better have pristine internet connection and a miracle computer to succeed in this class.
Took her online U.S. Gov. course. Fast paced & lots of reading. 4 discussion boards, 3 timed tests, & 1 research paper. Overall, you have to put in a lot of effort in order to make an A or B. Syllabus is direct & clean cut. Refer to it OFTEN. Only problem was with her grading. Pretty hard grader. Wouldn't take her if you have other options.
I am in the online class. Only complaint is tests. I enjoy that I can take them at home, but the time of the test is really short for the amount of questions. I understand you can't leave time to cheat, but please understand 30-45 sec per question is not enough. Major anxiety with the countdown, and some are paragraph answers. Otherwise great!
I enjoy the lecture in class yet I feel it has nothing to do with the book and tests.... Every test is over 5 chapters, very difficult to learn and memorize.
He is extremely opinionated and his personal views distract from his teaching. He is also a very tough grader. I received an A solely because I put in a lot of extra effort. It is possible to make an A, but I would not take his class again.
Took his online US Gov class. Assignments were pretty mundane. Offered several extra credit opportunties (DO THEM) & a possible 10 point curve on each exam. Worth noting that the exams are timed WAY too quickly which is so annoying. His grading is questionable. In conclusion just read the textbook & take notes.
He is a good teacher. His lectures are pretty interesting and a lot of fun discussions were done in class. Make sure you take note and study them and you will be fine. Make sure to prepare for the essay in the test. Only 3 tests and one paper. He is pretty fun and nice. I decided to take his TX class after taking his US government class.
LOVED. His tests were so what difficult for me but that's because I didn't study much, If you study you should do just fine, do your extra credit stuff and go to every class he will give you a good amount of extra credit for that. Also if on your paper you feel you didn't get the grade you deserved talk to him about it he is very approachable.
Dr. Amachigh does an amazing job explaining the material and making sure everyone understands. The class was a bit more discussion-based than I expected but that just made it more engaging. Prepare to learn a lot. There were 3 exams and a paper, with the option to retake an exam for half credit back and lots of extra credit!
Really great professor. Whatever is on the power points is what the tests are about. Didn't read the textbook, though he encouraged it. Easy A if you participate and pay attention to material. He also provides really helpful study guides for the tests. Only one essay required and its short and easy. Highly recommend!
Horrible professor. Gives you 45 minutes to take a 50 question online test that has some open response questions (which is EXTREMELY hard). Unclear on assignments and due dates. Don't take his classes if you don't have to.
Dr. Amachigh is great! His class is really easy and he gives plenty of extra credit - 10 points on each test and an additional assignment for up to 20 points. Definitely take advantage of that! He is generally very understanding and accommodating. Just read the syllabus and follow it. Also, you don't need to buy the textbook.
This Prov was very opinionated, would go off topic in class (had to push a test back at one point). Goes fast when on topic. Hard to understand him even near the front of class. Grades research paper on grammar rather than content and counts the slightest leftover space at end of paper against you. Constantly left class confused and angry.
Ugh. I would have not taken this professor if I read his rating here. This guy is simply a bad teacher. He is very hard to understand and talks fast, 3 difficult tests throughout this whole course, and the study materials are indeed garbage. Very few graded assignments throughout class, instructions on paper are vague. Horrible. CLEP it instead
Test review? Whats that? Well we read chapters 1,2,3,4. So you need to know everything there. Run, don't walk, away from this Prof (not a teacher). Good luck!!
I took this class online. Unfortunately, I felt as though Professor Amachigh did not respond to emails w/i a reasonable time, delayed more than other professors to post grades, tough grader for sure and whatever you do be very thorough on the discussion boards b/c she will ding your grade if you are not. Would def not recommend her.
This was the second time I've taken Dr. Amachigh, and I really don't know why I did. He has a heavy accent and is difficult to understand. His power points are incredibly difficult to understand if you review them on your own. Doesn't really have structure. Very opinionated, throws controversial topics at student and they take up most of the class
Professor Amachigh is really nice and understanding. I ended up dropping this class because I missed a test on accident. You have an opportunity at the end of the semester to redo a test but the class ended up being really hard and confusing. The only grades that go in are tests and a paper, so it's difficult to redeem yourself if you don't do well
He is very tough grader and doesn't let you re-take the discussion board he says to come up yourself very intimidating with every email I wrote to him, super annoying and know it all kinda guy 50 question test is for 45 minutes which pass thankfully some of them in quizlet. I am not even talking about the paper there is no specific subject to write
I usually suck at government/history classes but by just participating and going to class I was able to keep my grade good. He also gives extra-credit opportunities and provides test review outlines for each test. He lectured and went along with power points so it was pretty easy to follow. My best advice would just be to participate and LISTEN
Dr. Amachigh is amazing!! His class is really easy if you attend classes. No homework. Plenty of extra credits! you need to work hard if you want an A.
Very upfront about what was required to pass the class, I received the syllabus a week before class started. Although the textbook is large, I highly advise reading it. I will say that a lot of class time was spent discussing semi-related political topics rather than the government itself. Also, he did not push his political beliefs on us.
PLEASE TAKE THIS ONLINE! His Gov 1 class was sooo incredibly easy as long as you follow the syllabus, do the work, and spend a minimal amount of time. Tests are taken at home and most questions are directly from the questions in the book. SO MUCH extra credit. I finished this online class in 19 days and got an A.
Dr. Amachigh was a fair teacher. Everything is in the syllabus, no surprises. Her class consisted of four Discussion Board posts, three exams, one essay, and optional extra credit. Her exams are hard. You have to make sure to read the textbook and study. If you do that than the exams aren't too bad. She allows you to retest at the end of the term.
He is hard to follow, but he reads off his powerpoint every class. He is ok.
Professor Amachigh is awesome! His class is fair easy but you have to work hard to get an A. He likes to bring up controversial topics for class debates to keep lecture fun. The book is online, but tests are based on his lectures so try to be in class. He doesn't like students leaving his lecture early unless to tell him your reason beforehand.
This professor was so bad! I'm taking him online and he's a tough grader and when you email him he won't respond until a week later. The online class is basically reading the book and that's it. No homework, no lecture. Just read the book. Also, 3 exams witch it's timed 45 minutes and a "optional" short answer witch it's not timed separately.
He is a great professor! he knows his stuff and is really good at giving lectures that you understand and can laugh at. He also facilitates class discussions and brings out ideas that most people don't think about. He uses methods that keep you engaged. One class we watched a futurama and talked about how it related to our current government.
I like him as a person, but not as a professor. He's humorous during class and we have a free online textbook. The problem is that he spends so much time going off-topic by bringing up controversial matters and letting students argue over it most of class.... Then he goes over stuff that matters for tests way too fast to compensate for time lost.
This was my first time taking an online class and it's safe to say I will personally never do it again. You have a paper, discussion boards, and exams and sure that's less work, but that's all you're graded on. He gives extra credit and I HIGHLY recommend using that to your advantage (I could've got an A).
I took this class online. Let me be the one to say, study the questions in the book and his review and you will get an A on all the test. Discussions Boards and papers are very easy; I am no author but I did fairly well on these. Take this professor, easy A. Btw, I did not read a single chapter, just skimmed through and did good.
What a great professor you seriously have to really try and not pass! I'm a average student and I'm able to get an A in his class. He gives a ton of extra credit, 3 test, 1 paper. GO TO CLASS! His power points are not very organized well if you don't know whats going on or no taking notes what helped me was to print the review and follow that way.
Prof, Shina is a great professor. Shina is ready to push you towards achieving all your goals in the class. I almost gave up on the class when Shina told me not to and provided the necessary info I needed in order to pass the class. I am so grateful because I would have waited to take this class again but thanks to Prof, Shina I passed with a B!!
if you just keep up with the tests and discussion boards, it's easy to pass. there aren't any hw assignments or quizzes. 4 tests, 4 discussion boards, and 1 paper
I'm not going to lie, I hardly read the textbook. They were short, I just had other class priorities. 4 discussions, 4 exams and 1 paper, If you don't complete 3 out of 4 discussions you aren't able to do the extra credit. Not proctored, fast email reply, easy discussions and paper is fairly simple. I'm not the smartest in the room.
This is not a bad class but it is not that easy, it takes some work but I did fine. You just have to do the work and study for the test.
Professor Amachigh really cares about his students and gives plenty of extra credit opportunities. Dont go into the class expecting to not work, but do what is required and do the extra credit and youll get an A. I highly enjoyed Professor Amachigh and even asked him to write one of my letters of recommendation.
Took her over the summer, and it was definitely an easy class! Her class was self-paced and consists of 4 discussion boards, 4 "tests" (more like quizzes), and 1 paper (not long). I actually didn't need to write all 4 discussion boards because my grade reached A already. Read textbook and do the objectives and you'll be good!
Professor Amachigh did not thoroughly go over course material in class or plan out his lecturing time to make sure test material was covered. The only real information was found in the textbook making him unnecessary to the class, and overall he was very rude and tried to spark unnecessary debate in class to pass time instead of teaching.
Absolutely terrible teacher. He didn't give me any extra time to complete assignments even though I gave him a valid excuse with proof. Has too many requirements in order to do extra credit. He doesn't let us do extra credit if we don't meet the requirements and when we ask to complete the requirements he doesn't let us. Gives bad feedback.
Dont take this teacher pls. He is mean and quite frankly kind of dumb. He doesnt know how to do math and doesnt know how to grade tests. Its kinda funny how bad he is at being a good teacher. I barely scraped by with an A due to this mans insolence.
I took the 5 week summer course. It had 4 DB, 4 tests, 1 paper, and 2 extra credit papers. It took 3 hours to read each chapter/take notes plus videos to watch. It was overloaded with info and the tests were very specific details in such a large chpt. Be ready to use lots of time on this class. I spent +/- 3 hours a day and barely got a B:(.
Their online class was un-navigable, deadline links would send you to the wrong Discussion Boards, their grading process was a threat of an F if you did not complete every assignment, but the assignments were difficult to find and complete. Their email responses were curt and nearly hostile. Flexible, but why flex when you can simply do it right?
zero response on call during office hours, had an error on his posted assignment on BB Did not give me a chance to do and review my work zero feedback on how you do on homework
The class was easy, but this professor had terrible communication skills. His expectations were unclear at times, and I had to email him several times to understand what he wanted, and he would take points off for very random reasons. If you do well on the tests though, you'll be ok.
Since I took Professor Amachigh's course online, It was pretty easy. However, he could have communicated more when assignments were due. You definitely need to pay attention to the due dates. 4 Discussion boards, 4 online exams, 1 net paper assignment.
If you want to pass this class, choose a different professor. He is the one to stay away from. Test as timed 30 min per 26 questions. Test is not about book, its about what comes to his mind during class and he never want to share recordings. . Please choose another professor if you want to succeed in this class.
I took texas gov't. It was a relatively easy class since the entire course was online and based on textbook work. But I would like to warn everyone that the syllabus is horrible. LOTS of times critical directions are unclear. Textbook readings aren't so bad but it's lots of info to take in and the tests only cover 10% that you may not remember.
We didn't have to do much coursework but your grade depended it. My main issue with the professor is that, instead of advice on how to write the hw better, he makes passionate, and sometimes flawed, rants on topics we were supposed to research on our own and discuss. Since the course was online we couldn't really argue with him either.
Class is easy and the textbook is free, but the professor is rude, unprofessional, and vindictive. Facilities of higher education should be embarrassed having this professor on their faculty. If you are able, choose another professor for your course.
Organization of the class was confusing. The paper and tests were rly easy and potential extra credit questions were given ahead of time so you are able to prepare. DBs were pretty controversial and complex questions, and he seemed to be grading based off of whether he agreed with your opinions or not. Set reminders for deadlines because he won't.
I had to drop this course unfortunately because Amachigh would not lecture about government. He would bring up completely off topic info during his lectures, good luck getting back on topic. You had to just teach yourself with the online textbook. He also taught with an obvious political bias. I have never struggled with a professor until this one.
Professor posts tests late only 30 minutes to take them. He constantly preaches against the textbook. His slides online that he posts are missing half of the information out of lack of updating slides. This professor is not at all someone who I believe should have a job. Do not take this professor if you want to pass this class
Wonderful Professor. I took his Texas History course and loved his style so much I took his goverment class as well. Anyone who's complaining about him doesn't know what their talking about. Great teacher and will answer any questions with ease. Loves to debate.
He is a tough grader. You are required to do three of four discussion boards 50 points each, four unit tests over multiple chapters, a three page research paper, MLA style, and an optional final exam. He relies a lot on extra credit work and the unit test have errors such as duplicate questions or not adding the right answer to the multiple-choice.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! I am a good student with good grades. I had all As on my test and final paper in this class too but because I "lacked" attendance and participation, my grades dropped down DRASTICALLLLLLY. WHAT NONSENSE!!!! He wants you to speak in class and then he snaps back at your point.
He's a great teacher who let's us debate in class. Although he does have some biases, he's great at putting them aside for the sake of debate. All of his tests are online, so they're really easy. Although, he's passive aggressive af.
I would not recommend this class. There was very little transparency surrounding why you got to grade you received. He also does not give any grace and you must follow every guideline to a tee or you will fail.
He has a very lecture and debate oriented teaching style. He stresses the importance of discussing different view points, and for the most part these discussions were done very respectfully. Attendance is MANDATORY for full credit! Tests are online, and plenty of extra credit opportunities. There is one 3 page paper but he allows plenty of time.
Professor S. Amachigh, class was informative and simply easy to pass. Attendance is mandatory and class participation as well. I was concerned about taking his class because all of the negative comments. There was only 1 major paper due and you knew 2 months in advance. Professor Amachigh is very alert and notices everything.
Do not take this professor if you don't need to! A lot of the questions on the tests are over things that weren't learned, the paper was very harshly graded, but he only told us that he didn't allow certain things on the paper (direct quotes) THE DAY THAT IT WAS DUE! I had a 4.0 before this class and ended up with a C. He is very strict and rude.
Do not take! Grading arbitrary. Tests are 26 questions, one of which being a short answer. He will take off points for the short answer, ensuring you do not get all your points for a test. You will also not receive feedback for the paper. I asked for feedback, and judging by his response, he did not even read my paper! Condescending! Do not take!
Questions on the test were often unrelated to the textbook or there were no straight answers in the textbook itself. There are 10 grades, an orientation quiz, 4 discussion posts, 4 tests, and an essay. Off my experience, your essay gets no feedback but there is usually feedback for the discussion posts. I would not recommend taking this class.
I'm mostly writing this to warn that all of the material I read in this professor's class included some suspiciously biased content including in the actual textbook, the only reputable links often lead nowhere, and a consistent use of PragerU videos as resources as though that YouTube channel has anything to do with education. Would not recommend.
Pretty intense for a lower lovel government class imo. 25 question tests needed to complete in 30 min including a short answer. Grades pretty tough for participation credits like discussion boards. I am also a stem major so this isnt my field but I think there are def more chill profs out there
Not communicative. Requires in person meetings to discuss test results - clearly has intense fear of answers being leaked online, which is fair ig but makes it incredibly hard to get legitimate feedback. VERY frequent use of PragerU videos aka alt right propaganda as learning material Hard grader but I do appreciate having my viewpoints challenged
Dr Amachigh is incredibly rude and dropped me from the course for standing up for myself when questions on the test were not in the reading material. This was after I had completed ALL coursework and had a paper ready to submit. A formal complaint is pending.
Came across as unprofessional, didn't upload the syllabus until a few hours before an assignment based on the syllabus was due. There were duplicate questions on tests as well as multiple choice answers that didn't make sense (i.e B. All of the above) Also he has a clear right wing political bias and brings that into the discussion boards.
I took his class back in 2022. He would spend all the class bouncing from various hot button topics and pushing his own narrative while being wildly condescending. He changed the date of our final week of, then didn't post it online by midnight like he had said. I received an email the next night saying, “sorry, here is the final exam link”
A lot of the negative reviews here are written based on nothing but the fact that they have opposing political views from Amachigh. While in class, he does push his political views and adds his opinions to lessons he also creates an environment open to debate and encourages students to let their own views be known and challenge his.
Dr. Amachigh was a professor who gave students the ability to work almost completely at their own pace. All the material was made available at the beginning of class. He gives relatively clear grading criteria and lots of extra credit opportunities. He grades very timely. This class is difficult and will require hard work.
Attend EVERY class bc he gives extra points for perfect attendance. PARTICIPATE. The way he included extra credit to our grades made no sense bc it ended up hurting rather than helping our grade. Pay attention as he will call you out in front of the whole class. He does not read our essay. Tests+reading is not bad. Workload was good. Picky grader.
weird tests. you could have read the textbook and there would still be something that would throw you off. used a prageru video and had a right wing view point, but he wasn't pushy on having that ideology. PARTICIPATE. AS MUCH AS YOU CAN!! DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!! you can survive but if you want an easy A, then find someone else
he talks too much and barely talks about the course, gets mad when you leave, 2/10
Rude and condescending, argues about his personal/biased opinions in class. Mainly lectures and note-taking. Goes off topic a lot, postpones tests to the last minute. My class was told we would take the test next class and the same night he decided to email us the test link with no prior notice, and we had until 11:59 to finish.
This professor is noncooperative and very stubborn. He doesn't understand students at all and his syllabus is very confusing and he is not accommodating with you at all. He gave me an “F” over a small issue. There is a lot to deal with if you take his class. Avoid him and save your GPA
Tests, assignments, and readings are fine. Participation is both mandatory and graded. He forces students into debates with him in class and brushes off any counterpoints that don't align with his worldview. He is rude and condescending and will get angry if you refuse to debate him without adequate preparation time. Find another professor.
Participation is like half of your grade you need to talk every single class which should be easy considering he loves to instigate arguments between himself and students. He makes fun of students to the class when they disagree with his views. Barely learned any gov because all he does is instigate every single class. incredibly right leaning/bias
Not recommended
Attendance and participation affects the grades more than the tests. If you cannot debate against politics then I don't recommend you take this course. You could ace all of the tests, however if you don't speak up and debate at least a couple times a week your grades WILL drop. Stays off topic, and doesn't explain the material well. Don't do it.
Professor Amachigh is super nice and teaches well. He cares most about attendance and participation, so even if you do bad on exams, you can still pass. He also gives extra credit. Highly recommend 10/10. Best professor ever.
I would describe Professor Amachigh's class as the best and worst class I have ever taken. On one end I don't think I have ever been more interested in a lecture, he engages with students a lot, however most of the engagements turn into meaningless off topic debates. He has good intentions and loves politics, not a good professor.
terrible grading criteria
Prof. Amachigh is actually an ok person, he doesn't really push his ideology on to you. However, there's zero ways to practice or prepare for tests other than 'reading' and praying for textbook questions to appear (5 at most). Textbook to read is full of meaningless fluff, tests aren't given back. lose 40 points = No A. Rare extra credit. Horrible.
Professor Amachigh is personable, but the class is frustrating. Lectures often drift from the textbook into ideological commentary. Participation grading feels subjective and based on agreement rather than substance. Exams are hard to prepare for, with no reviews or returned tests.
Studied hard, completed every assignment on time. You must read fine print of his grading on black board. One paper, worked on 30 days, only to get 1/2 cred (16% of grade)bc I forgot to allow him to be a contributor to paper. He gives no grace, this brought my overall grade to B, he wouldn't meet to discuss and it's on my HS transcript forever
His classes are interesting, but the exams are very difficult to pass. Participation matters a lot. He is an easy-going and friendly person. But be prepared for the hard exams.
