This Prof.may be appearing very easy and funny, but he is not.All tests are based on his lectures,he gives notes in a brief point form, yet on the tests he wants you to write a thorough essay with many details, then deducts points.Bad tactics, sorry!!!!
really good course. you definitely shouldnt waste your $$$$ on the textbook because you won't use it once. he tells you whats on the test, and all you need is the class notes to study.
He is insanely good. Totally understands what he is talking about and he is in it for the students something many Kwantlen teachers aren't in it for. Take him because you understand what you have been taught and get a good mark!

If you don't want to learn anything about boring politics, and just need this course for an elective, take it! As long as you attend class and take his notes and study them the tests, which he gives you the questions for, you'll do fine. Dont buy the text

One of the best profs at KUC! Very helpful & funny! Wants his students to succeed. Just stick to the notes and you'll get a B or higher. Very enjoyable class I recommend it to everyone.
awesome teacher. very easy. but his notes could be better when hes giving them, not of the time u have to write down what hes saying. he gives midterm questions in advance. very easy and interesting..
If you have no interest in politcs and just want an easy A+ in something, take this class. Don't buy the textbook, just study the often watered down notes and you'll still ace the class. He treated me like garbage but I still aced the class. He's very boring and extremely unmotivated. Be warned.
This class was awesome, Dr. Purewal is hillarious, he actually made politics interesting.

awesome teacher, such an easy marker-i love it. makes it interesting and funny. never even used text-book. good times in that class for sure.
Don't bother buying any books required, as chances are you'll never open it. Just come to class, take the notes, study them for the exams and you'll get a B+ or higher. Just remember to explain your notes clearly, so you'll remember what each heading means when it's time to study for your exam.
hes annoying and i really didnt learn anything hes turned me off from poli sci but if u want an easy a then this is a course worth taking
dont buy the book, we never even opened it. lets us go early all the time. Unmotivated, but sometimes funny. He knows his stuff. Midterm q's given out early, but he marks harder beacuse of that

He is an awesome teacher. I never ever wanted to take poli sci but when i had him as my teacher... i loved learning about poli sci. So, then i took another class with him. His tests are real easy. i just got transfered to sfu... but im still planning to go to kwantlen just so i can take mr.purewal as my poli sci proff again!
SHINDER WAS ONE OF THE BEST POLITICAL SCIENCE PROFS EVER FOR ME!! HIS WAY OF EXPLAINING IS JUST TOO INTERESTING AND YOU CAN NEVER GET BORED IN HIS CLASS. HE GIVES YOU THE MIDTERM AND THE FINAL QUESTIONS BEFORE HAND SO THAT YOU HAVE TIME TO STUDY THEM. I WOULD MOST DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS TEACHER TO ANYONE WHO WANTS AN EASY A+ IN POLITICAL SCIENCE
it's hard to go to class when his ego fills up most of the room. he tells lame jokes and he doesn't seem to know much about how politics really work. everything he knows is from fahrenheit 9/11. don't waste money on the book.
Very nice teacher and funny too. You don't even have to touch the textbook the entire semester. And he's a pretty fair to easy teacher overall. Subject itself is kinda boring. Workload is reasonable too.

There's a stereotype about Politics professors. They are all extremely left wing. Purewal fits that description. Look, don't buy the textbook just study ALL the notes. Do a decent job on the essay and I PROMISE you'll get an A. As far as personality goes, he is incredibly obnoxious. NOT helpful or motivated, and acts like a Michael Moore wannabe!

hella easy/dont bother buying the textbook/study his notes, or memorize them / everything is from the notes / one essay - very easy / two midterms - questions given out one week before the midterm / final quiz only worth 10% / awesome guy, so funny/ take the class / GPA booster fo shizzle!
C'mon guys.. Shinder is as good as it comes! He makes class fun - one of the few classes that i actually WANTED to attended. Yes, he's opinionated but he's a politician for goodness sakes! Nice to have a teacher with some character. I've had him for 4 different classes and definitely recommend him for other students interested in politics!

I mean really, I honestly can't figure out how anyone can complain about Shinder. The guy is without comparison the best prof at Kwantlen. The only possible way you can fail his class is by not showing up to the lectures or not writing down the notes.
He has cancelled so many classes and he never bothers to tell us before hand! He is super easy but I do not feel like I learned all that much from him. He favours the guys and is condescending towards female students.
Anyone who says that they love this guy usally says so becasue he is very easy. Thats it! He has the attitude that u didn't really deserve a good mark. Not the easiest I've had, but as long as you can memorize ALL the notes you will do well and actually learn the material as well. I got an A-, so not as easy as some of these people claim, but I guess you can do very well if you put in the time. Final Multiple Choice Quiz was absolutely brutal though,I'll take essay questions any day!
Pretty intersting class, just go to ALL class and write ALL the notes...It's better to write more than what he writes as it will help you memorize them come exam time. Definately have to do well on the essay and memorize all the info if u want a good mark. Was not impressed with the %10 final quiz at all. It was the worst I've ever done on a test!

If you want an A, take this class. If you want to learn, don't even bother. Also, don't even bother buying the textbook. Just listen to his lectures, take notes (write what he says, not what he writes) and study the outline he gives before his tests. P.S he is liberal bias, so try to butter him up with it. Though he is not an extreme liberal.
Shinder's a great professor to learn an intro class. Yes the exams are easy because he gives you 6 questions to study, of which he will pick 3, a week before. Attendance is required so show up, take LOTS of notes, and practice the exam questions. Essay is own topic as well. He also makes jokes and tries to engage the class. Higly reccomend.

Nice fair marker. Test are easy if you study. If you want an A get textbook n go over note. if u want a B or lower dont bother getting textbook. He is into his topic. Doesnt like his students to act childish at all! I would take him again! Very good teacher!
Boring class, write down all the notes. He cancelled almost half the classes without informing us before hand. His final exam is ridiculous - 10 multiple choice questions - most of which include things that were not taught and would be impossible to remember from the textbook. Don't bother buying text, you'll never need it. I'd say avoid.
Midterms are pretty straight forward, don't worry about the textbook, just GO to class and take down notes as everything you need is from the lecture.
Confusing Professor:( Lectures and notes don't supply enough information for the exams, and even if you feed back information given by him into your exams you'll still get a bad mark. The lectures were funny, but not very informative and focused on the middle east mostly.
Shinder gives awesome lectures and tells it how it is. He knows his stuff. Lectures are about events worldwide. He's funny too,but a little too sarcastic, laughs at his students sometimes. Unaccessible outside of class at the Richmond campus. Only 2 exams and a paper which are pretty easy, just make sure you can explain ur notes on the exam.
The good:knows subject well, lectures are interesting, ties course material into current world matters, explains political science concepts well. The bad:course outline is vague/easy to misinterpret, is terrible at explaining coursework requirements,is condescending and disrespectful towards students who have questions or make mistakes
Very easy class. Don't even need textbook just pay attention and write notes, you need them. Gives the midterm exam questions a week in advance... how people still failed or got bad marks on them I have no idea. No final exam.
Alright- hes a really funny prof and hes a great nice guy. However--do not buy the textbook! he doesnt use it at all. His exams are 3 essay questions all based on his lecture only. you NEED to write down literally everything he says. his exams are tough because hes looking for certain answers that you need to give.

Urges students to ask questions; however, he puts them down when they do. He does have pretty good credentials ? ie. He has a PhD and he?s written a book, BUT he does not use the expensive ($179) textbook he makes students buy and he gets distracted very easily but his own stories. To prep for exams, the only resource you?ll have is his notes
Reasonable professor, if not stellar. Unlike many he has a practical knowledge of the subject, as well as scholarly. He does spend too much time on his jokes and stories. Overall it has been a reasonable class to date, and fairly enjoyable. Do note: Has a love of sarcasm.
He seems easy because he gives you his questions for the midterm ahead of time. But he marks hard and doesn't help his students. He acts very obnoxious and condescending when students ask him questions. Many students who took this class felt as if he was treating the students like garage. As of till now he still does.
Easy teacher...2exams worth 30%...he will give you 6 paragraphs and only 3 will appear on the test...just hve to memorize the notes...and a final 8-10 page essay on anything related to politics...only 3 things to do in the entire course...attendence is mandatory and no point of buying the textbook it is not used at all...refer to his notes
Attendance is mandatory, but more importantly all the exam questions can be answered from in class notes. The text book is more like extra reading if your interested. 30% for two midterms (study six questions, answer three on the exam), a 30% 10 page term paper with no final, and 10% for attendance. He is a funny prof who makes class entertaining.
He's a good teacher. Can't say that he is a hard marker. He gives the exam questions in advance. You should be able to explain your answers instead of just re-writing the class notes as your answer. You won't get a good mark unless you can actually answer the questions in detail. Dont just state the facts, elaborate!
His class was so easy. There are 2 exams both worth 30%, he gives you the questions in advance, and one paper 30%. You can answer the questions from just the in class notes, but for full marks you should refer to the text. However, the textbook isnt even necessary. He makes lectures interesting, always cracking jokes. He tells it like it is.
Gives you test questions before hand and most of the answers are in the notes. I found that I had to rush through exams in order to try to fully answer 3 question in 1 hour 20 mins. 1 paper which isnt too hard. Funny guy, always cracking jokes. Never left class not laughing.

Great prof with great humour. Some of his jokes go a little far, might make you cringe, but he keeps his class entertained. Exams: 6 paragraph style q's given beforehand, 3 will be on the test, you must answer all 3. Write down EVERYTHING he says in class and you're set for the exams. No need for the textbook unless you're interested in poli sci.
Listen to lectures, write everything down, and read like a couple of pages in the text before an exam and you'll do great.

This prof covers the material thoroughly and explains concepts well. He gives clear instructions for assignments; you know what to expect early on in the course, which is nice. Fair marker. He gives extra help when asked. Entertaining lecturer; good humoured and respectful of students' input. I would take another class with this prof.

Lecture material is pretty dull, but his sense of humor makes up for it. Gives you 6 questions to study for exam (long answer) and then 3 of them show up on the test. You need to take good notes to answer these questions correctly. Generous marker for term papers. Don't show up late, he'll make a joke out of it and give you a life lesson.
Took him in the summer and I got 98% and I'm not a poli major I took this class bc of his reviews of being easy. Someone is disliking all the positive comments, you can tell. He does have an attitude but this guy is hilarious. I copied his notes and an exam question was "ideologies of liberals" and I re wrote his notes and always got A+'s so easy
The class was super easy! Two midterms and a paper and no final exam. The midterm he give you six questions in advance to study and only 3 of them will end up being on the midterm, go to class write down everything he says, I always ended up writing whatever he said on the midterm and got A+'s on everything. Easy A and good gpa booster.

He is a fair but stern professor. He doesn't follow university polices and most if not all of your grades are from assignments in the last quarter of the course. He goes on tangents a lot and his lectures don't explain the textbook. If you don't attend he will grade you harder. His final is based on the textbook rendering the lectures useless.
This man is probably one of the worst profs here at kpu, guy does not care about his students, you have to attend every class and write down every single thing that is on the overhead if you can write it fast enough before he changes it lol no one understands how he marks his exams even if you write his notes word for word on the test, text no use.
Very unprofessional professor. Spends a lot of time making ignorant, offensive, and condescending comments during class. His lectures slides are long, boring, and heavy with material. It is hard to not fall asleep. He gave little direction for the final exam. Not even any study questions.
His lecture slides are very confusing and not informational. Nothing that's is really needed for the test are there. Gives you questions that he is going to ask for before midterms which is great but expects lots of details and cant miss a single thing or else you get less than a 50% on that one essay question. Very hard marker
I'm not entirely sure how he actually marks his exam. I heard he marks based off his lecture slides. When it came to the midterm, I wrote down information from his lecture and from the textbook recommended, and ended up getting 50% overall. He may be easy to some, but if majority of the class got 50% and highest was 70%, something must be wrong.
Shinder purewal #KPUs best professor. You wanna score good marks, go for it bro. I respect this professor though I hate political studies subject itself. He is highly supportive and those who rate him low might not have worked hard. Getting an A+ simply depends upon your hard work. I would suggest every student to take up his courses atleast once.

easy course to clear
During COVID where we had to have classes online, he left us to our own devices to teach ourselves. He didn't care what edition the textbook was, but we must read chapters and self teach. he gives us 2 questions for the test but has no specific criteria. after the test, he shows what his answers were and its right if we copy his answers only.
purewal is by far THE WORST prof i have ever met at KPU. he is so rude and inconsiderate and not helpful at all. He thinks hes soooo cool just because he has a phd or whatever but non of that is important if you treat students like trash WE ARE HERE TO LEARN SHINDER!!!! no wonder he lost the election. be a little nicer to students. it doesnt hurt.
Believe the bad reviews. I asked for feedback on an exam, he replies saying read my answers and compare. That's his feedback. Do yourself the biggest favor and don't take it with him.
He is the worst prof I have had. Does not answer emails, I asked for help understanding my grade on the exam and he was unwilling to give me feedback. He gives no criteria's or rubric and when I asked for clarification would not give it. Horrible teacher and seems to have little to no respect for students. He puts almost no effort into his class.
I understand everything moving online has been difficult for students and profs, but this class was very much a 'do it yourself' type. we were given brief and pre recorded lectures, and tests. thats it. no assignments, no discussions, nothing. from someone who appreciates the marks from assignments this class was a big no from me. Do better please
I am conflicted with this professor. We were given uploaded, prerecorded lectures with no discussion whatsoever. The assignments are short answer "exams" in which he requires you to repeat the textbooks verbatim with quotes. Very little feedback. His lectures were insightful & passionate, but the asynchronous info/texts replaced any actual teaching
Really good, very clear about what exactly is expected of you. 3 exams and 1 final quiz. not good at communicating and often doesn't respond toenails in time. exams are based on the textbook chapters and PowerPoints he provides. completely asynchronous and no other assignments aside from the exams and final quiz.
Dr. Purewal is awesome. His prerecorded lectures are very clear and easy to understand and do well in the exams and tests. If only one thing I can ask Dr. Purewal to change in the whole process is to find a program that will NOT require students to buy Microsoft Office in order to be able to listen to the recordings. Overall, I give him 100%
His ppts-boring. His txtbk-mandatory. Lack of exam instruction makes it hard for students to study for it & also bc it's mostly essay form. Since exams are essay-based, he marks it based off how similar ur answers are to his answers - unclear/unfair grading & no asgmnts to boost ur grade! WORSTPROF Don't take him pls. Not worth ur $ & I got a B.
