I found him helpful in person but anal about cel phone usage. Tests are based on hw assigned which he goes over carefully in class. If you get the hw, it wont be hard. Very beneficial if you retain past accounting knowledge.
try your best to get A+
You have to do the homework to understand the exam. Exam are hard
Shiraz is a great teacher when it comes to clarity & teaching style. This man has gone beyond what I could expect from semester teacher. His voice is loud & clear enough to make someone listen and he goes over the lecture and literally pushes students to asks questions. Course is tough. I pass or not, I will be responsible. Thank you shiraz :)
Pretty easy class. Take notes and study hard to get an A- or above.
Difficult homework, but if you understand it, exams will be easy. Chatty teacher and fair marker.
Provides lots of opportunity for students to ask questions and review homework. Tests are based on notes covered in class and homework assignments. I barely touched the text in this class. Uses MyAccountingLab, so don't bother buying a used copy of the text, you'll need to buy access to the accounting software anyway. I don't recommend skipping.
His lectures are really clear. He'll start every class with a little chat, then get on to the content. He always summarizes the chapter and presents them clearly on the board. Also, he gives a lot of exercise in class. As long as you follow the exercises, read along the textbook, & ask him questions you don't understand, you will do great.
FMGT 2325 is a really hard class. He did a great job of explaining complicated and annoying tax rules. His exams were always very similar to the assignments. Also, very entertaining.
Worst accounting teacher at Langara. His classes have no structure and its all lecture based. There is no online component, including mark postings. Also, he doesn't use notes so you have to read everything and make sure you know the main points rather than using teacher based notes.
He is super funny! I couldnt stop laughing in his class. You have know the homework well to do well. As long as you try to do the homework you get an easy 10% (I didnt know that til later). You need to put in a lot more time than fgmt 1215. Be prepared. It is not an easy course. I heard there are 11 people drop in my class.
Rude, If you ask a question he answers in a rhetorical way leaving you completely lost, 30% of class withdrawals He doesn't care and his jokes are offensive Don't get homework marks back so don't rely on 10% atricks tricks on purpose on tests marks are shown weeks later You won't know where you stand till basically grade release
Took Him for Tax 2, its a complicated topic but he taught it well enough. Be prepared to read before class and leave class utterly confused, things will be explained in the next class. Allowed to bring the Black Book into exam, so write all the procedures in there. GO TO OFFICE HOURS AND EMAIL HIM WITH QUESTIONS. Make sure your questions are clear!
how is the average grade A-? what?? worst teacher ever hey Shiraz if your reading this "I can't tell you"is not a appropriate answer to your students questions
Shiraz was an amazing teacher, loved his classes. Not an easy class I will give you that but definitely learned a lot from his class. Would take his class again without hesitation. Watch out for the second midterm its tough. To get an A in the class you should probably put in 10-12 hours of studying a week. He is hilarious and I learned a lot!
He is rude. He says to the class we cannot tolerate incompetence. When a senior student asked his a question for clarification, he said that if they ask those questions, it shows incompetence and that they are not fit to be studying." Often he will make remarks to look down on people and never responds to emails.
First of all, he is the teacher, so if anything is unclear, he needs to clarify for students otherwise there wouldn't be a point going to class. And even one exams, it is possible for questions to be misstated, so by him clarifying, students will not be misled by questions.
He's rude !!!!!!!!!!! Ensure to take anger management courses in advance.
If you need to boost your GPA get ready to devote most of your study time to his course(s) or take it with someone else (and learn nothing). His courses are tough but if you are willing to do what it takes you will learn a lot. He may seem cocky at first but once you get used to his style you will enjoy his lectures. He's very sarcastic and funny.
No kidding, think twice. He failed more than half of the class. If you are just aiming for a credit for the course, go ahead to take it but be prepared to read the whole textbook and do as much practice questions as possible. If you are a lazy student, there is no way for you to pass the course just by attending to all the lectures. Good luck.
Fair exams, you dont study you fail. Personally didnt like him
I will definitely not take any of his classes, he's such a rule guy, always be nice to girl. He makes the exams unreasonably difficult. His expectation for students is extremely high, we are students, we have lots of unknown knowledges, we are here to learn. Do not just come in and expect we know everything.
He is a strict, but good teacher. He doesn't hail students. You just have to study hard and follow him on lectures. He answers the questions and available in case students need some more help. He tells what will be on exams - so students can be ready for that. He is not the best teacher, but overall he is good.
Shiraz is a great professor. He is intelligent and hilarious! Piece of advice, read the textbook before class begins. Ask as many questions as possible if you don't understand something. He is one of the best Accounting Professors I ever had :)
One of the most amazing teachers I ever had. Shiraz is just purely amazing, as a person, and as my Accounting Professor.
AMAZING PROF! :)
My course was difficult for me. But he makes everything so clear and concise. I appreciate his teaching style.
love the dude lol
Don't go for him.
Fantastic instructor if you put in the time, and a terror to those who ask redundant questions. Shiraz teaches through getting his students to go through the exercises as a class, rather than through lecturing, and always answers questions with another question in order to challenge his students. By far one of my favourite instructors to date!
I'm a B average student and I did horrible in his class this is what you need to do in order to pass his class: 1. remember everything from 1115 and 1215 2. pre read every chapter before class is mandatory 3. never skip class take notes 4. ask questions if you dare (I never did he's just to sarcastic/no filter) 6. don't take him
He is a tough pro, you must do HW on time and listen the explanation of the HW, if you can understand the HW, you are fine for the Long answer exam, however, in his MT, mc was really hard, suggest: finished your LA and then do your MC later , it takes time and really tough, find tutor to help u, don't wait until last week
His method of teaching wasn't was best for me and I had to read a lot to actually understand, BUT Shiraz is a good teacher! He's funny as hell! But if you dont like he sarcasm you wont enjoy his class. ASK AS MUCH AS YOU CAN! In class or during office hours/email, he'll help & always do the hw and worksheets, if you do those you'll pass the exams.
His classes are boring as hell. Like someone said before, remember everything from 1115 and 1215. Learned most stuff from text on my own. regret taking his class; he seems a bit mean.
Enjoyable classes and lectures... However, you need to spend A LOT OF TIME reading the textbook to succeed in his course: learn, do homework, and understand everything by yourself. His teaching style is poor.
He attempts to do a trial and error teaching style but ends up pointless because he does not go in-depth and explain things clearly. He is knowledgeable but assumes you know everything like he does. Prepare to self learn everything by yourself.
He is very clear on what to expect on the exams, gives out worksheets that are relevant to the tests, and goes over key points in depth. At first he seems a little intimidating, but if you are respectful and show up to class (on time) he will treat you with the same respect. He can be funny too!
The worst instructor I have seen in my life. Most time in his lecture is talking about homework, and he only spends 10 minutes teaching and marking something new for the next homework. He advocates that all problems should be done in class. If you hold a problem to ask him after class, his is rude. MCQ in his MT is full of traps, but worth 50%.
In no way is Shiraz an easy prof. But he is also fair in what he expects. He teaches you everything you need to know for the exams and tricks people up on small details that many people forget. He prepares you for the CPA compared to other profs. If you want to actually learn something take his class, do the assignments, show up for every class!
He has fa and not fa students, beware if u r not! He is CPA prof., but performs POOR as teacher. He doesn't like to teach, gives you numbers and JE, but on exam- BOOM you are supposed to provide full analysis ! If u not his fa.- u ll get lowest mark . His fa. get 75- 87% ,although they didnt complete exam or made bad mistakes! Dont recommend
Shiraz isnt as bad as everyone makes him seem. His multiple choice is hard but the rest of the exam is just the homework. Hes a very fair marker and will give you marks just for showing your thought process even if your answer is completely wrong. If you actually want to learn something and go for your CPA, take tax with him.
Shiraz is a great professor, I'd definitely recommend. Sit in front of class and pay close attention. You will do just fine.
Awful instructor, would never take him again. He expects too much from every student. Partial with average and below-average students.
Shiraz is a good professor, tax is just a hard course. He is strict but it's easy to follow his rules. DONT SKIP!
Shiraz is a great accounting professor for those that aspire to be successful CPA's in the future. He gives great CPA advice. He is strict and wants discipline in the class and can be quite humorous. If you follow his simple rules you will be rewarded. Keep in mind, tax is a really tough course, so you have to work really hard regardless
Wasn't very helpful. Hard to understand the problems we do in class when the problems are totally different. Assumes we would know how to do the Excel formulas when we do not know how to do it especially it's the first time. It was a demoralizing experience, would not go back again. Experience does not mean being able to do it.
Shiraz's corporate tax class is the only thing that will prepare you for the CPA tax exam. I'm currently taking it right now and it's a breeze because of Shiraz and his notes. Truly such a respectful guy. If you think he's rude or mean, you're just soft lol he really cares about his students and wants you to do well, he just won't hold your hand.
Difficult! However the difficulty was not from the course content itself, but from his teaching style, Impatient with answering questions. Whenever asking questions, he's not willing to give answers right away but complain that it's your fault that couldn't get it during the zoom class. A horrible experience! Not recommend!
Shiraz is one of the best instructors at Langara, if you actually want to learn. If you just want to get a "C" and get your diploma/degree, skip him. He makes himself available at all times and responses to email queries WITHIN MINUTES. His methods are much easier to follow and remember, than the book. So, pay attention and ask follow-up questions.
his lecture is not clear to me. his teaching style is terrible.
TEST is hard, Lot of homework, keeping all his lecture material "VERY" secretly, don't even want to shows it to the class. Pretty much hard to get a high mark from him. (You still can pass if you try hard, but you need to be very very carefully)
Shiraz's exams are on the tougher side, however, his grading is fair and he makes it clear on what's expected. Participation and attending lecture is extremely important if you want to do well. Also, do the homework!! He's a really nice instructor and has an awesome sense of humor (dry and sarcastic). Will definitely take him again if I can :)
He makes everything so difficult. Expects a lot from the student. Doesnt like to repeat concepts he taught as doubts. Tests very hard. You need to work really really hard to get a C in his class. Would not recommend.
Shiraz cares about students but he does NOT teach. Taught 1st 2 chapters then rest of term just went over homework without going over concept/material first. Most of the class was googling the answers for the homework because we couldn't figure out how to do it WITH the textbook. Exams are difficult, he'll throw stuff at you not presented in class
He makes you work for it with lots of homework. Exams are heavy especially the first midterm but its similar to the homework and questions from textbook. If you have questions better do it via email as he answers quickly and thoroughly than in-class. Doesn't share his lecture materials to class and lecture are not enough to understand the chapter.
the exam is REALLY hard. I took two courses from him and fail.
Honestly, I find his teaching style quite disappointing. I find it weird that he does not post detailed practice solutions or any solutions for that matter on related material. Going to class is essentially just a hw review where he does not even break that down in detail, only a screenshot of the answers. He does not even post lecture notes.
people say that he is very professional, but I found like his teaching method is so poor. he would not share anything about the material if you missed class. the homework is heavy. there is no specific instruction about how to succeed in his course. everything is that you have to learn by yourself. everything is all over the place
I feel like it's really hard to pass his course.
Classes and seminars that are enjoyable... To succeed in his course, you must spend a LOT OF TIME reading the textbook: learn, do assignments, and grasp everything on your own. His teaching method is ineffective.
Just try not to take any course from him. He is so irritating in all ways.
I love his sense of humor. he often makes jokes to make you laugh. BUT the lecture makes me sad and stressed as well. his note is not enough to help you pass the course. homework is SUPER heavy. I failed all the homework.
He is an irritating guy. He does not listen to your problems. He thinks that he is perfect. He does not know how to teach at all. Giving 1 or 2 examples in class does not mean that every student can learn the whole chapter from them. I think these kinds of professors should first learn how to teach perfectly.
I have to study really hard to get C-. but his marking style was fair, the exam was straightforward as same as class problems. but I think they weren't enough to cover all the chapters.
Shiraz is smart and knows his profession really well. The problem is, the way he teaches is ineffective. His notes on excel are not enough to help you and when he goes over classwork/homework solutions, he just shows excel files with a bunch of numbers with no detailed guide on how he got them. I would avoid his class if possible
He doesn't know any things about taxation .....
Just try not to take any courses from him. He is so irritating in all ways....
I dont understand why he does not share practice materials on brightspace for practice. Majority of the class was struggling and I think about half did not get a C in the end. Though he is helpful through emails and office hours, I find his teaching method in class to be ineffective. He just shows hw solutions without breaking it down.
Do not take him. Hope Langara will do something. He is very rude and does not teach. Hi exams are advanced and not based on textbook. He does not teaches in class anything. We pay lots of money as a tuition, and he does not learn us anything. He takes our money for nothing. It is not faire.
Sorry honey but you teaching days are gone now...... go back from where you came from because this isn't for you my love... you have failed miserably XoXo
I dont know who allowed this guy to teach. terrible teacher and human
Shiraz is the most awful instructor that I had in Langara. He is very rude with students. It is nothing to learn form this instructor, He does not teaches anything in class. I learned a lot from other smart instructors in Langara, but from Shiraz nothing.
He is extremely rude and difficult to work with, doesn't even teach and spends the entire class time waiting for us to answer the homework questions
Shiraz taught me how to approach accounting (logic instead of memorization). No marks for numbers/formulas, instead looks at your thought process. I don't think he's as mean as ppl mentioned, he does tease people (especially if you ask dumb question) but I never took it personally. Answers emails within minutes. I enjoyed myself in his classes.
From my point of view Shiraz is the best professor I have ever had. His teaching way is to different than others but trust me he is the best. His marking is also really good and if you are one to learn something then you are with the right person.
He likes trolling students. Most unforgettable accounting prof I've ever met. If you are an A student, he will also give you an A.
Terrible human being. I'm not sure how hes allowed to be an instructor when all he does is bully kids out of his class
His way of teaching is not good. He does not provide detailed notes. Only thing he provides page numbers from the textbook for self study. Most of the time he waits for the students to answer the homework questions. He is also best trolling and taunting students. His exams are tough even the Multiple choice questions are so hard.
Even being a good student , I couldnt cope up with his lectures. In class he just wants students to answer the homework questions and doesnt teach a single concept. Tough exams. And almost all the students failed both the midterms class average was too low.
HE IS TRUE TEACHER, WHO ACTUALLY WANTS HIS STUDENTS TO UNDERSTAND AND LEARN THE CONCEPTS, PEOPLE SAY HE IS TOUGH BUT HE IS VERY GENUINE PROF. WHO IS MASTER IN MAKING SURE HIS STUDENTS ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND HIS CLASS, GIVES YOU EVERYTHING IN ADVANCE TO SUCCEED IN THE CLASS.
Does not teach a single thing, expects students to answer things in class and does not provide an answer afterwards, so you are unsure if you got it correct. Yells at you for taking notes during class and not listening to him but does not provide any notes and does not want you to rely on textbook.
Worst accounting professor at Langara. Does not teach a thing and expects you to excel at exams. A student fainted in the final exam after seeing the paper. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND DO NOT TAKE HIM. STAY AWAY.
Shiraz's lectures are not engaging or clear, often skipping entire chapters. We are expected to finish homework without any explanation of the material. When we have questions, he tells us to ask classmates instead of helping. He gives no guidance on key exam topics, making the course unnecessarily stressful and hard to succeed in.
don't take this professor in any case, if only he is available in the term do the course from any other institution if its mendatory rather than taking him. He only pokes regarding past courses teachers they didn't taught you anything. Importantly, he doesn't upload marks for anything on bright space then how we can know where we are standing
