If you are a first Year, Do yourself a favour and DO NOT take Dossa. Seems to put you into a category right away, dont expect your marks to move around much. Might be enough to turn some people off poli sci for good.

One of the best Profs I had. His courses have been hard but he always expresed himself clearly if you work on it you will do fine. Just get the essence.

Any course from Dossa will turn into your semester or year's worth of anti-american spiel. He is somewhat helpful one-on-one but he is a hard marker and it is difficult to maintain a view if it conflicts with his own. Avoid classes with Dossa if possible!

Very Interesting class, but if you dont agree with what he says he will make you look like an ass. He seems to be into brainwashing people with his anti-americanism, but its funny. Very hard marker tho and i wouldnt reccomend it first year!

Best prof at X! Contrary to what most people belief Dossa really wants you to disagree with him....just make sure that you have the facts to back it up. Very helpfull to students that participate and go to class.

I had him second half after we had a gift giving Grad student. He had to lower the marks some how. He gave all my assignments good feedback. He expects excellence.

His lectures are very good. Depsite what people say, he is NOT anti-American. He does not hate American people or anything, which is the impression I had after reading some of these posts. He marks hard but fair. He is is a great speaker and does not believe in multiple choice! Take him.

Best prof I ever had. He makes you think, when you walk out of his class you are more then likely thinking about something that he said. He says things to challenge people and he wants you to argue with him, but if you are going to be able to back up what you are saying.He wants his student to think

An extremely thought provoking prof. He's constantly challenging you to be more than you are. Some people consider his class a "show" and automatically try to peg him as an anti-american. These people are idiots. He's a man dedicated to his craft and his desire to make this world a better place for our childern and his own. Best Prof I've ever had.

Great lectures. But he drops names and articles and book titles ALL the time, and some of that material might find its way onto your exam!! so you gotta do lots of research and stay on the ball.. But if you're willing to work for it than he'dbe good.

MR DOSSA, YEA "MR" is the worst prof in the in st f x history. he deducts marks for not referring to him as "dr". who cares if your a doctor? just teach us political science, its your job. doesnt care much about teaching the subject except to the students he plays favorites to.

Dossa may be intimidating to you first years, but give him a chance. He tries a scare tactic but is phenomenal. He has lost of controvercial information but can be too focussed on his anti-americanism.

Interesting course. Very biased information in most of the course, somewhat unorganized, however the message of his course, to not believe everything you hear in the media, and to question your government, is definitely worth it. --Be Warned, he expects nothing short of pure excellence and accuracy on essays and assignments.--

DO NOT take this class. "Dr" Dossa (he's very proud of his Ph.D) rants all day about George Bush. He does not teach you ANYTHING. I still do not know anything about political science. The exams and paper topics are ridiculous. There is no text book, etc. He marks SUPER hard. This was just an absoulutely awful experience. DON'T DO IT!

I dislike Dossa as a teacher and possibly as a person. He is based, unorganized, not clear, and damn annoying. He makes his students unconfortable, and it is near impossible to achieve a high grade in that class unless the students nose is lodged way up Dossa's ass. STAY AWAY

Good prof overall. First year class didn't really suit him though as most people in there didn't seem to care about the topics. Interesting books. On tests always refer back to Chomsky in your answers.

Challeges you to think outside societies mainstream, for many this is difficult to do, therefor they rate Dr. Dossa as mediocre, he is a good professor.

I had him my first year. He challenges you to think in a way that you're not used to. It was perfect to start me out at university, he is really strong in his beliefs so you have to be prepared to debate him and discuss. it's unfair to complain about a prof simply because he expects you to be somewhat aware of global issues.

Dossa was my favourite professor at StFX. He challenges students to think critically and question the messages coming from the popular media. Keeping that in mind, I am certain that he was unaware of the nature of the conference in Iran. I hope that staff and students from StFX will know the difference and support him.

Dossa makes students think and question what they take for granted. GREAT! Unfortunately, he marks difficultly just for the sake of being a ‘tough guy.’ I received a B on a paper but any feedback was minor in detail and gave me no indication of what I might do to get an A. Funny guy who will help you if you need it.

All teachers have biases, most people only recognize them when it's coming from a voice of dissent. Dossa was fabulous. He was passionate and analytical. He's not a a left wing propagandist, he's a non-partisan intellectual.

Hands down the most unprofessional teacher I have ever come across.He presents fiction and opinion as fact and when challenged reacts in a rude and aggressive manner that creates a hostile classroom environment. He preaches open-mindedness, but accepts nothing but his opinion on exams and tests. WORST PROF EVER

What he lacks in objectivity he makes up two fold in his ignorance. A passionate prof, but he ignores any challenge to his doctrine. Instead of an intro to politics we received an intro to Dossa's political theories, most of which fall radically to the left. He would be a fantastic prof if he learned to be more objective and open minded.

Terrible professor, rude to objections from students and created an unwelcoming environment. He didn't give an intro to poli sci, he gave us his biased opinion about the american government. I did not learn ONE thing about canada's government system and was very dissapointed that I ever took this class.

HORRIBLE PROF! He was totally biased and you cant understand any of the notes he puts on the board. He spent about 70% of class making fun of George Bush, 20% of class being smart with students' comments and 10% actually teaching course material. Avoid this prof!

Dr Dossa provides an intellectually stimulating environment in which to learn Political Science; doing so in an arguably unorthodox manner, challenging the class to think by presenting often radical liberal views to stimulate conversation and discussion. An interesting professor who is worth checking out, unless you hold a very conservative bias.

With Dossa, I learned the most important lesson I took away from university - Don't take ANYBODY'S word for it (Not Dossa's, not anyone's). Find out for yourself. Be able to back up your arguments with hard facts and data. Be not afraid, challenge him. He'll challenge you to challenge yourself. Broad shoulders a class requirement.

Dr. Dossa demands respect in his classroom and he lets you know it. He never took attendance, yet he knows if you're not there and he's not afraid to call you out on it. You don't text, talk, show up late, browse the internet, cough or cause any other sort of disruption in his class unless you want to be called out. Good prof, learned lots!

I wish I had more than 350 words here. Luckily, the post below me summed it up nicely. No attedance but will crucify you if you miss class. Agree with him or have a strong argument to back it up. Somewhat hard marker, but that is expected in an arts course. Pay attenion, read the books and take notes. Exam is alright if you follow those 3 things.

By far the most biased and one-sided egotistical person whom I have ever listened to. this man was manipulating facts in order to provoke awareness of certain issues, but he is more intolerant than the people he criticized. Stay away if you are pragmatic, open to alternative views, or patriotic to any 'western' nation.

Absolutely no structure to his courses. Name-drops all sorts of obscure thinkers in class, doesn't explain them, and then tests you on it. I have also never experienced such an oppressive class atmosphere. The sad part is Dossa would at least be an interesting professor if he could reign in his tendency to work himself into ranting fits.

Not a welcoming class environment for discussion; believes his opinion is the only one/right one. No structure to lectures. Notes will not help you with exams, which are structured as essays only with not nearly enough time alotted to complete them. Would not recommend this course to anyone!

Phenomenal professor. Argues against dominant view and can often be very anti-Western. Made me challenge what I've learned in other classes and assess articles/information/media with a much more critical lens. Take his class if you want to go beyond the typical one-sided Western discourse we're constantly taught.

Fantastic prof. His views are very different from all other psci profs I've ever had and challenge students to think beyond the typical Western rhetoric. Incredibly kind and super helpful if you go to his office hours. He doesn't put up with poor attitudes and has high standards for students. Super interesting and incredibly intelligent. Top-notch.

You're not allowed to so much as cough in his class let alone express your opinion. He puts a huge emphasis on attendance, but doesn't actually take it and then will try and penalize you by taking off exam marks. If you have any opinions to express this is not the place to do so, he doesn't care. IF you're willing to be his puppet you'll be fine.

Really opens your eyes to things from a different perspective. Does not accept any texting, talking or noise making.. even coughing is over the line. But he knows his stuff and is pretty funny in class. Intimidating , I wouldn't speak in class.

Very confusing prof to listen to and his only views are his own. If you have an opinion on a subject he will shut you down and make you feel like your opinion is irrelevant. Very strict on attendance, if you are sick make sure to email him a day in advance.

Not a very good prof, very intimidating. I would not suggest taking his class if you can help it. Hard marker and topics were not what I expected to be in an intro class. If you can help it DONT TAKE HIS CLASS!

Avoid this prof like the plague. Outside views are considered irrelevant and will get made for even coughing in class. Extremely hard marker and when you go visit him at office hours he is very unhelpful. Definitely would NEVER recommend this prof to ANYONE.

The class was confusing as hell but I didn't mind Dossa at all. He's really good at going over things with you again, and providing clearer instructions IF YOU ASK. He may seem super scary to approach but do it and you'll be thankful. Try not to skip class because its easy to get left behind.

Very interesting prof, I enjoyed listening to his lectures! However there was a lot of reading and he is a very hard marker. If you want to do well in this class do the readings and participate in class. Also, DON'T SKIP CLASS!

THE ABSOLUTE WORST PROF I HAVE EVER HAD. Do not take this class, he has made my stfx political science experience disgustingly horrible. If you sneeze, he gets angry, if you tap your foot, he gets angry. OH and if you miss class, dont bother to expect a good grade. He will penalize you for anything he can. POWER TRIPS. All your thought are useless
