this is one of the best english prof at bmcc she is kind,helpful,fun,and easy to work with.her class work is hard the first works but atfer three weeks it becomes easy. she doesnt tolerate late or absent students so if you have a problem with attendance dont take her class. her required text is under 30 dollars and she is welling to work with any s
Very tough teacher but at the same time friendly, she very strict about latenes, but overal she will make you to pass the writing exam. A lot of practice.
This professor is not open-minded if your writing style is not of one she likes your grade will reflect it. My advice to you is to run, run far way from this class!!!
She is acerbic and cold in speaking with class, openly encourages students to drop her class if not embracing her approach. Prefers to deflect questions and says students should already know how to handle assignments. Comes across as very subjective in grading completed work. Her course is not recommended.
Ok here is the deal just go to EVERY class and hand in your work on time and you will pass.You will get bad grades no matter how good you do the work. She knows if you are trying or not. If u are lazy run if u want to work stay
Her English 095 is a waste of time. I do not feel like I'm learning anything with her. Don't take her course.

dont take this professor, no matter how great your paper is, you are going to get a bad grade, in her class her opinion is the only one that counts, is ironic that she likes participation but when you say something from your point of view is wrong just because she says it is, no argues. She is funny and seems cool, but everybody get bad grades.
OK, I have always had tough english professors since I was in highschool BUT Prof. Tannu is DIFFICULT! Never miss a class, exam, assignment or be late because she will penalize you for it. She does give you some way of making up for bad grades but still won't give you an A if that is what you are looking for.
I love her. This prof. gives you lots of chances to make up your failing or low grades. If you take the opportunity , you will do well.

She is very proffecional and humorous. If you are never absent, never late, and never give a late assingment she gives you extra point. You don't have to participate in class but you need to do a presentation of 5 min. She gives 5 essays, 2 to do in class and 3 at home. If you are a lazy student you will not do well.
Prof. Tannu is an ok professor. Very basis, honestly only cares about her opinion and how she wants it. There is no other way around it. In addition, she does give extra credit but it's honestly when you least expect it. She likes to throw curve balls. Overall, I'm glad I'm done with her class.
This professor reminded of a caring professor I had a while ago. She is helpful although strict with her work. She is also cool and elegant.
This professor gives you lots of chances to get a good grade. She gives lots of extra points too so take advantage of them. Don't be lazy. Hard work gets results. Has sweet personality too.

I would surely take this professor again .She is the most dedicated professor I have had. She gives students back their papers really fast. Not many teachers do that. She is also generous in her grading and rewards students when necessary. Very approachable and kind too.
Don't take this profesor, she spend most of the time talking about her life. In addition, her opini?n is the only one right. Also, if something is wrong she never explain why.
She's a good person and knows a lot, but she lacks understanding. She expects things said and done her way only. Is very confusing. She's open to help but she's very tricky, I'm a good student and could tell she liked me, but she still tried to mess me up. I wouldn't take her again, ever. This Prof is very dedicated to her students and works hard to give even failing students a chance to get passing grades. Still some of my classmates are lazy and irresponsible and instead of blaming themselves, they blame professors. Get real people. You only get results if you work so blame yourself. This teacher helps everyone.
I was very disappointed with her. She expected us to write like a professional writers and she didn't look at our progress. I put a lot of time into studying, but she didn't care. She chose couple of students that she liked and she would gossip with them every first 15-20 mins of the class and they always got better grades than everybody else.
This professor is simply the best. Even tnouh I was failing, she helped me to get a passing grade. She is very attached to her work and makes the course fun.

This professor is strict with her work but is also very nice to students and this is how it should be. Very concerned about her students' progress. She gives back papers very quickly. She gives her students many chances to make their grades better. You will only fail her class if you are lazy and has many absences.

I really enjoyed and learned in my English class with Prof. Tannu . She is a hard grader,but this is really helpful to growth and learn and this class. The environment in the class was really nice, I would take English 301 if Prof. Tannu teaches it.
Prof Tannu is just extremely caring and wonderful to her students. She does all she can to give you a passing grade. If you are lazy and fail, then it's your fault. I will take her again ,yes.

If you want to learn English take this professor, she is just amazing. I am an international student and from Prof. Tannu I have improved my English skills up to 80%. Of course it is always up to you no matter how good a professor is, if you want to graduate and have a good grade just pay attention to every classes you are and you will never fail.

Rude, disrespectful. I once received a poor grade on a quiz, and even though she did not say my name.... she said it anyway. That made me feel so bad, very very bad, there is a difference between criticism for valuable feedback, and just speaking with no respect. When your struggling and have questions, can Professor Tannu can be cold.
I was a 4.0 student going in, and got a scholarship from the school president. I was actually advised to withdraw from this class to preserve my GPA. Runs the class as if it's high school- chiding, needling, knit picking, stifling creativity. There's no exchange of ideas. Says "axe" for "ask". Doesn't know how to use commas. Worst experience ever.

Absolutely the single worst professor I've ever had. She treated us like high-schoolers, left no room for expression or interpretation. Utterly rigid and cold, with no actual feel for literature or the impulse that creates it. An unmitigated disaster, and her English is actually pretty bad.
She is a good professor but her grading criteria is very harsh. If you walk into class 5 minutes late she scorns you in front of the class. She rambles on about how her family is so smart and professional. I do not recommend her if you are looking for an easy pass. If so be prepared to kiss up like never before.

This is the only 201 I was able to pass because of this caring hard working professor. If anyone says anything bad about this teacher; they are just dead wrong. She works with her students unless you lazy.
She's so down to earth and chill unless you on her bad side. She doesn't appreciate people being disrespectful and all that. She gives the usual stuff, 3 essays, 3 quizzes based on the movies/books, midterm and final. She lets you do the essays and quizzes in groups if you want, which everyone did and got good grades.

I graduated almost a year ago now and I'm back to save any students who are even considering taking this professor. Please DON'T. She does not have a clear grading policy, is meticulous about grammar that she doesn't even utilize properly and she also shows favoritism; she is rude, cold, snarky and, never actually gives constructive criticism.
You will still manage to get a bad grade despite doing all your work, handing in assignments on time and being on time to class. Don't even dare to ask her why, she'll make you feel incompetent and never actually show you where you went wrong. I have never gotten below a B in any class but hers was the exception, despite doing all of the above.

Prof Tannu seems like a great person if she says that you actually put in effort in class despite receiving some bad grades she'll honestly try to work with you. BUT, she is very strict on attendance don't even think about missing class or coming to class more than 5 mins late because if you do, it could drop your grade from a A- all the way to a D

She is the a poor excuse for a teacher. She insulted the entire class by telling us we have bad personalities. Her feedback for written work is the equivalent of a 5 year old. Taught nothing but nonsense and when the entire class got a failing grade on her quiz, she proceeded to lecture us about how we weren't trying. She will fail you for writing.
Shireen Tannu is one of those professors you'll come across that will challenge you to become a better writer. She's tough at grading but she's also very caring. Just follow the prompts very carefully and you should be fine. Do your homework trust me. Just do it and you'll get credit for it.
She is a really great professor and she would ask about your day and she dont give a lot of homework. She gives you extra time and feedbacks on essays. She is polite and will understand if you have problems.

Words to describe Prof. Tannu. Tough, rude, and unhelpful. She doesn't even give feedback on how to improve your writing or grade. For this to be a freshman English class, she sure makes it seem as if we're in honors. No matter what you give her, it will never be enough. I recommend looking for other professors before enrolling in her class.

I can only speak to my experience with Prof. Tannu in an online asynchronous capacity. She takes away significant grade points for minor things and provides no constructive feedback in order to know where your errors were and correct them moving forward. She is unresponsive to questions and offers no support to students looking to learn.

Professor does not appear to understand how to properly utilize the online format of classes. Does not appear to believe in the subjective interpretation of literature, despite it being a core principle of the course. So few grades that a single missed assignment will destroy your grade. Completely inflexible.

Shireen Tannu does not like to teach, she'd much rather critique you on your paper that she did not read and then speak about how rich her family is, she calls out students on their failing grades publicly and undermines students based on their looks. I asked her why i received a specific grade on a paper and she could not explain why she gave it.
Shireen Tanu should not be allowed to teach. Not only is she petty and arrogant when it comes to teaching, her voiced opinion on gender roles, academia, and the overall intelligence and merit of teenagers shows that she is not a bad teacher but a teacher who clearly does not know why she teaches and actively deters young minds from academia.
She seems very knowledgeable in her field, but she doesn't seem open for interpretation at all! If she believes one interpretation, THAT IS THE INTERPRETATION! She's insanely subjective too. Her grading didn't make sense either. I went from A in ENG101 to C- in ENG201. Don't take this class.
Professor Tannu runs a tough class, but if you engage with the course materials and use helpful study tools like Unstuck AI, you can learn a lot. The workload is challenging, but manageable with dedication.
She grades biased based on students she likes.she gives slight racial comments towards specific students,brags about her rich lifestyle in a condescending way. If brightspace has issues,she blames the student and gives 0's.if you are inexperienced in english as she will fail you with no consideration,and for office hours she isn't welcoming.
I really wanted to enjoy this class, but it was a frustrating experience from start to finish. The lectures were disorganized. I'm honestly shocked she's even teaching. On top of that, she comes across as very arrogant and condescending. If you choose her as your professor, be prepared for unfair and unjustified grading overall.
