I thought that this class was extremely helpful. Sister McKay was very fair in her grading and gave personal help when needed. The workload was not a ton but enought to keep you busy. Assignments were great for improving speaking skills. As long as you show up and do your work, you'll do great in this class. I strongly recommend Shirene McKay.
This is a fun class and I am learning more than I thought I would. Sis. McKay is very knowledgeable and sincere. The workload is fairly easy; but there are a lot of in-class speaking and activities. I wish I had taken this class earlier because it would have helped me in all my other classes. If you want some fun & knowledge, take speech from her!
Mckay excellent Professor! She has a really fun teaching method and makes learning to speak in public fun and explorative. Mckay teaches with a lot of class participation since the only way to get good at public speaking is to practice giving speeches, she gives you numerous chances to practice. Which was so good!!
She is an awesome instructor, if everyone taught like her everyone would have A's. Her assignments are good, her homework load is fair the thing is she takes you step by step, she has a packet made up, color coded and everything. the class is so fun because she gets everyone involved.
Professor McKay is a great teacher.Classes are fun and interactive, and you can see the application of the class.Pofessor McKay is very nice and understanding. I learned a lot. More than I thought I was going to in this class. I would highly reccomend taking this class.
She is such a fun professor! She really cares about her students, and makes an effort to help everyone! loved this class. She is way good!
This class is great. It gives LOTS of opportunites to practice public speaking, which is very helpful. The class period was a bit long, and sometimes it seemed like our activities weren't always beneficial, but the class was helpful and encouraging.
Very fun teacher. Great class overall.
Sister McKay is an amazing teacher! She really helped our class out. She made us feel really comfortable when speaking even when we were nervous. I HIGHLY recommend this class to everyone. The class isn't terribly hard. Just make sure you stay within the time limits and you are pretty much golden!
Sister McKay was great! She knows her stuff and makes the class exciting! I thought it would be terrible having a 2.5 hour night class, but it goes by super fast with her! She isn't good at getting back to you with emails, but besides that I have no complaints.
Sister McKay is the best! Not gonna lie, this is probably the easiest class I took this whole semester, but it was very worth while. You would think that a 2 1/2 hour class would go by really slow, but it didn't. She made the class very comfortable with each other. I highly recommend taking this class!
Sister McKay really cares about her students, and that was evident. Some of the speech topics were great, and I loved seeing the progression of each class member. We felt more like a family than a group of students. Made the long class go by so much faster! Great class :)
She is very nice and spirited.
This was definitely a pretty easy class. Sis. McKay is pretty relaxed and lenient. I like that we got to pick our own topics. It was helpful. The class kind of drags sometimes since it's so long and you just sit there the majority of the time but overall, it's not too bad.
She is Professor Umbridge. I came into the class enjoying public speaking but she has made me hate it. She has zero credentials and basically wastes your time. She also stacks on the busy work like no bodies business. Take from someone else.
Enjoyed the assignments given in class. Beware that attendance is a portion of the course. Learned a great amount, beware, ie. She gives you 'take home' class participation assignments... that take an EXTREME amount of time (like watch debates). lets you redo assignments. KEEP RECORD OF YOUR SCORES, she seemed to lose/ misgrade a few of us in class
Easy teacher, very helpful. Learned a lot in this class and became a much better public speaker.
I enjoyed this class a ton! The work load was really light, and I learned many useful skills I will definitely use. Sister McKay is great at what she does and gives feedback that really helps you improve.
Great class! Super easy but you still learn a ton. Sister McKay is a genuine professor who really cares about her students.
Pretty easy class but Shirene can be pretty vague at times which can be quite frustrating when you dont know exactly what is due. But you get what you give and this class really is not that hard.
The class was an easier 3 credit course. It is easy to do well with minimal effort. However, she tends to always drag class out the entire 2.5 hour period when we could cover the material very quickly. Really nice lady though.
Great professor. Teaches very useful skills you will ACTUALLY use in your public speaking life. A+
Not too bad. She was vague about when assignments due and added some pointless busy work. She let you re-do assignments. She always took the full 2 1/2 hours. But overall, the class was an easy A and Sister McKay was a nice teacher.
Dr. McKay is a wonderful teacher. The course is quite time demanding but it is really helpful if you want to improve your public speaking skills. Take it from her.
Dr. McKay is very nice to students. Time could have been used a bit more efficiently, but you will enjoy this class and grow personally.
Easy class but because it's once a week there were sometimes a lot of assignments due. A LOT of time used inefficiently which was kind of annoying especially because we sometimes got out late or didn't finish what we had planned. Overall she is great and the class is definitely an easy A.
There was a lot of confusion about assignments - when they were due. Also, she would give us assignments that weren't in the syllabus. But overall all an easy class if you did the assignments. Not too difficult of a grader.
Overall easy fun class, some busy work but you only meet once a week. Easy A if you do all the assignments.
Dr. Mckay is an awesome teacher. She really helped with my public speaking skills. The class was super fun and you end up getting really close to the people in it! As long as you are on top of things you shouldn't have any trouble. Sometimes Dr. Mckay has issues with checking her email... so just communicate in class.
Sister Mckay is awesome. This class is great if you want some experience in speaking, you want to learn, and you want a low stress place to do it. She focuses a lot on technique and not much on content of your speech, which makes speech writing low stress
You have to be prepared to do a lot of home work. But it is worth it in the end.
Sister Mckay wants everyone to succeed. Her class may be a little more involved than other professors', but for a 3 credit class, it's not hard at all. If you actually want to learn how to improve your public speaking and get and easy A (relatively), she'll help you do that.
Sister Mckay is a teacher that really cares for the students. She is always willing to help them out. I was hoping for more practice and experience for public speaking. I felt the content wasn't too organized and didn't tie together to well to help me speak better. It is a low stress class if you want some easy credits.
I wish there was more speech practice in this class- instead, much of the time is spent in lecture. However, it is an easy class and only once a week. But the two and a half hours feels like 5 hours.
This professor was excellent and very interested in the success of each and every student. I would recommend this class to anyone who would like to improve their public speaking skills.
Sister Mckay is a great teacher. She is interested in helping all of her students do well not just in the class, but with their public speaking in the future. The class itself is easy and gives great practice in public speaking.
Sister McKay was a sweetheart. She was always willing to help in anyway. Not only did she want you to succeed in the classroom but in the future. Everything I learned made me a better speaker and gain more confidence.
Take it from another prof. Every PS course is a cakewalk, and McKay did nothing to help my public speaking, just my GPA. Between little actual speaking practice, poorly laid out requirements, unclear instructions, I'm amazed I got an A.
The class was fun/ and helped with the stress that comes with public speaking. due dates / requirements for assignments could of been clearer though.
She is a very nice lady and the class was easy but there was a lot of pointless busy work
Sister Mckay is a great teacher, she is really loving and gives special attention to each student. I still know all the names and a little bit about every single person in the class. I would recommend taking this course from her.
Sister Mckay is a wonderful teacher. She is passionate about public speaking, and has such a good heart. She is extremely helpful and wants her students to succeed. take the class.
Sister McKay is great! She is one of the nicest teachers. It is a little confusing at first knowing what is due and when because she doesn't use learning suite. But she really is a great teacher!
Even if you hate speaking in front of people you will enjoy this class! I was nervous about giving tons of speeches all the time, but you only give about 4 and they are not bad at all.
I cannot recommend that you take this class from her. Everything is printed, she doesn't use learningsuite, and most of the time it seemed like people didn't know when things were due. Most of the class feels like a waste of time
Great class! She was very helpful and clear when she assigned homework. Gave great feedback after your speeches and used a very fair way of grading. It was a two and a half hour class once a week so class was long and hard to get through sometimes. Great teacher, really enjoyed her class and how nice and understanding she was.
She is a great teacher. Lots of extra credits. She wants you to succeed. Grades really easy. The only thing is she is not very clear about the assignments she gives out and what and when it needs to be completed. 2.5 hours per week. Sometimes its hard to get through the class since it is so long. not much work. easy A
The content and assignments were confusing, the directions were not clear and that was frustrating. Dr McKay is kind and knows her topic. I just found the course frustrating, she didn't use learning suite. Meeting once a week if you had questions you had to ask in class or wait til the next week. No TA.
She grades really hard on certain assignments and really easy on others (you don't know until you get your assignments back). She only claims to care about students; I came to every class, participated, and turned in every assignment, but she never remembered my name (17 person class and only 10 showed up consistently).
The class is sort of easy and sort of hard. There is relatively little to do by way of assignments except for the speeches you have to give, which you can mostly get away with doing the day of if you're a hardcore procrastinator. The assignments are unclear sometimes but if you miss class you're screwed.
Sister McKay is a very kind, loving teacher. She tries to help us interact and build relationships with our classmates. However, she hardly used learningsuite which made things very confusing for us to keep up with knowing about assignment deadlines and also how our overall grade is for the class.
She does not get back to emails quickly. I had to wait over a week to get a response on multiple occasions. She is not very clear on what is due but the work is easy and she's very positive and gives great feedback.
Lots of homework starting the first day of class. Don't procrastinate. Very helpful and gives great feedback on assignments.
This was a good class except some days I wanted to rip my hair out. You have a speech every week. She doesn't use learning suite well so that can be frustrating and the syllabus she gives you at the beginning of the year doesn't help much with things due because sometimes it changes. Also you don't know your grade till the last day of class.
Her class is awesome and she's so caring. She gives so many opportunities for extra credit. When giving a speech, be enjoyable, have fun, and connect with the audience. She takes sources and speech outlines seriously. I'd recommend taking this class from her. It really depends on your classmates if the class is enjoyable.
Sister McKay is fantastic! Most people think that a public speaking class would be horrible, but she makes it so fun and enjoyable. It is a safe environment to practice public speaking and improve. You give 3-4 official speeches throughout the semester and other course work to improve speaking skills. Definitely take it from Sister McKay!
For a student development class, her public speaking curriculum is way to busy. A ton of useless work.
Sister McKay is awesome! The class is really easy and has some good information. If you schedule it out so you're not writing your whole speech the night before the due date, it's really easy. She has pretty strict guidelines for the written outlines for the speeches, but doesn't require that you follow your outline perfectly, or at all.
She is very kind and works hard to help students. Make sure to always go to class and prepare to spend time on your speeches. Definitely a reasonable class.
Grades are not entered until the end of the semester so you wont know your grade until it is too late
She's chill and grades pretty nicely even if you don't meet the criteria very well. Public speaking is an easy class already but I think especially with her. I'd recommend her class. One disclaimer is that she's hard to contact via email sometimes but she'll always make up for it by giving you extra credit or something.
Overall, okay.
It more or less boils down to doing what she asks of you. Do the paper work, show up to class, and prepare the speeches and you'll do fine.
She's very kind and helpful not tough on the grading. If you come to class and do what you should, then you'll be good to go!
Public speaking is one of the most beneficial classes, and Sister McKay really makes it the best class. She provides clear expectations and a good environment to practice public speaking. Follow the schedule and be passionate on what you speak on and you'll definitely get an A!
She is as sweet as can be and a wonderful professor with a heart of gold. She taught well, but when it came to grading on time, she wasn't the best. She isn't one of those inspirational public speakers who speaks with power and authority, yet she still is great at her craft. Knows everybody's name and is very lenient with grading.
You will finish her speaking class with better speaking skills.
The course was organized in class, but there was no organization online. I didn't know what my grade was till the week before the semester ended.
She is a very cool teacher who loves to help the students. Is great with helping you keep your grades up! Very nice & sweet too!
She is a wonderful person and cool teacher. She is willing to help you if you're willing to do the help . Sweet and kind hearted. Activities show she cares .
Ms McKay is so sweet! She makes this class super fun and it's by far my favorite class
This class was a great experience to grow my speech skills. I would recommend this class to anyone.
This class was great! i am shy but it totally helped me get through that. not a hard class, i would say it is just work
The Public Speaking part of class was great, we learned a ton and got practice speaking up in front of people. Sister McKay is great but not super organized just be aware that you have to save all your work because she will use your grades and does not enter them to the end.
MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THE HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT BEFORE YOU LEAVE CLASS! I spent hours the first week trying to figure out what it was, and texting all of my classmates. I didn't realize it would be such a problem. Other than knowing what the homework actually is, it's an easy A. She gives tons of extra credit opportunities, and she's really sweet!
She is REALLY understanding. At the beginning of the semester she was quite disorganized, but towards the end of the semester it was better. Make sure you know what is due for the next week before leaving class because it can get confusing. Lots of extra credit. I learned a lot of way cool things. I don't like public speaking but it was fun!
Sister McKay is a very caring individual who cares more about your learning, progress, and growth than your grade. Her class was a great break from the rigid and intense chem and math classes that I had this semester. Whatever effort you put into this class you will get out in lifelong skills. I would definitely recommend this class and professor.
Sister McKay is very nice. However she isn't organized with the course assignments and take a long time to grade them. It is a bit stressful because she will tell y0u what is due in email the day before it is due. Doesn't really know how to use learning suite either.
She is sweet but super unorganized.
Sweet, but disorganized. She is a forgiving grader though and is willing to work with you on any concerns you have.
I really enjoyed Professor McKay's lessons. She is very knowledgable and helpful. Also, there are many Extra Credit opportunities to help boost your grade.
Shirene is extremely caring to the students and is in it for them. She'll work with you on specific needs and be understanding. The only difficulty I found was difficulty in either contacting outside of class or being aware of everything which was due. That was on me too, though.
This was a class where I feel like I learned a lot about communication. It is something that will be used for the rest of your life, and Sister Shirene McKay does a great job of teaching the course. You get to learn every one's names and actually get to know who they are throughout the semester. I would recommend her as a professor.
Sister McKay is such a sweet teacher! She's so willing to help and explain things to each student individually. The only disadvantage is that she is fairly unorganized.
She is teacher in class, but she doesn't tell you what is happening outside of class or what is going to happen next class. She updates online, she expects you to keep the syllabus. So make sure to keep that and refer to it often and you will got 100%.
Although you could tell that this professor was prepared, it was almost as if she was too prepared. Her instructions for each assignment were detailed to a fault and made it almost impossible for students to creatively think for themselves.
Sister McKay is an inspiring teacher. She is knowledgeable and experienced in public speaking. I enjoyed learning about the skills. The speeches were easy to write and give in class. Most of the class time is spent giving and listening to speeches. It is fun class and an easy A. I learned a lot too!
To be honest she is a terrible teacher. She doesn't explain things well. When you ask her a question through email she takes forever to respond. Her instructions for homework and speeches were very ambiguous and when you ask her for clarification she only makes it more ambiguous. I did learn some useful public speaking skills though.
Professor McKay is disorganized and it made our class very frustrated. She wouldn't open links online on time and wouldn't enter any grades. She also would not respond to any of our emails and when classes went online due to Co-vid she did not give us any instructions on what we were supposed to do. This class was awful.
Here's the thing STDEV150 was 2 1/2 hrs and honestly I dreaded this class. It was incredibly boring. The class could have been 1 hr for the amount of time I felt was wasted. Professor McKay is nice, but fairly disorganized, and takes awhile to put in grades. This class gave me the most stress out of all my others because instructions weren't clear
This class is so simple and it was turned into a mess. She is never accessible outside of class and she frequently makes you redo things. I am an A student typically, but WOOF. So unnecessarily frustrating. Take this from anyone else if at all possible. I promise you'll regret it if you don't.
