Overall, she is a solid teacher. She has a lot of experience in the field of poltical science. And her experience shows in the many stories that she tells about in her travels to different places around the world. Her class does get boring, it especially gets really boring if you do not find PS1 interesting. She is nice, interesting, and gives EC.
she's an ok teacher. there's lots of reading and weekly response papers graded on a check system. one 4 page paper. about 6 quizzes, midterm& final she's interesting enough but the class drags on. tests are based off of the textbook and lecture. requires 3 textbooks. not an easy A class and you'll find yourself spending a lot of time for her class.
The class for me is super boring. We talk about current political events each day for 45 minutes! After we go straight into a lecture that repeats everything we are supposed to read. Every day is the same, I never look forward to class because there is 0 change or creativity. She Knows what she is doing, but doesn't make the class entertaining
I am a poli sci major and I found the class really intresting BUT she is the hardest grader ever!!!! I have taken higher levls of poli sci courses and have passed with A's with hard work BUT she is very vague in her instructions for papers and gives weekly quizes when she will be a whole week behind. DO NOT TAKE this class she is super vague!!!!
Hard class, just make sure to read a lot and be sure to understand what she is saying. Lectures can get pretty boring since there's not much creativity, some can be really interesting though when Shirin talks about what's currently happening in politics. Overall, you have to spend A LOT of time in her class to get an A. Good luck!
Great professor!
Professor Sahani is one of the most passionate professors I have had here at IVC. Being a very active student in class, she responds well to students who have done their work and is involved. READ. If you don't read, you won't get away with anything. She's a really cool person. Will make you enjoy Comparative Politics, but you have to earn it .
Loved this course, found it really interesting and informative, just make sure you read the textbooks because there is a lot of useful info that she doesn't mention in lecture but puts on the quizzes from the books. She's a harsh grader, but pretty fair. She's amazing at lecture, just make sure you don't miss class because you'll miss a lot.
A pretty good /and/ fair professor. Just a tough course, despite the content being interesting. If you're not a reader, then don't bother taking this class. 95% of the time you're gonna have to read the textbooks and whatever additional reading assignment she gives you. Go over your notes. You won't get an A if you don't try hard.
I took Shirin's class this semester and I had to work my tail off to get an A. She is a very interesting lecturer and has tons of experience in her travels all over the world that she shared with us. Its more than books and lecture - its study material, periodicals, current events and more. You really have to be clued into what is going on .
Super tough class. My only main issue was that her grading criteria was NOT clear. This was on online class so I'm sure her lectures would be better.
Worst teacher ever!
I liked her as a professor, my only complaint is her stutter. It made it hard to focus at times and it a bit annoying. But other than that an easy grader just go to class she deducts 1/2 a % point for every absence.
Ok so where do I start? She's very organized, nice and she's passionate. BUT she assigns A LOT of HW (she treats it like it's the only class we have), she's a hard grader. Her study guides are "whatever", because at the end of the day she wants you to know EVERYTHING.
She's anal about attendance. Ok so class is all lecture, she needs to add some activity. There is no hw, you have a quiz every 2ish weeks DO WELL cuz they are big chunk but not hard. She is a touch grader. Tests aren't EXTREMELY hard- jus the usual. Her study guides are packed, revise it. 5-6 single spaced paper, kinda hard but eh. take it
There is an online midterm and a final. One group project, discussions questions due every two weekish and a quiz after the discussion questions. There are 8 discussion questions but she only grades 5 and the rest are extra credit. Her final and midterm were easy. She is very passionate about the subject and knows the material pretty well.
Imagine uh if uh um youre ummm instructor talked like uh this during the uh lecture. And that the uh lectures were long and uh boring and there are 0 uh assignments that can help your grade besides uh quizzes and her ummm harsh grading. That would uh be this ummm instructor? If you could um call her uhhh that
For this class, there are weekly online assignments, quizzes, online midterm, single-spaced paper, and final. She is very vague. Her study guides aren't helpful because at the end she expects you to know everything. When it comes to the exams review the quizzes, they do help. The online exam was alright because you have all your resources available
This class is an easy A so long as you put effort into it. There is a ton of easy extra credit opportunities to ensure that you will at least past the class! Professor Sahani is a great teacher who will challenge you to look at both sides of an issue in order to formulate a better viewpoint. Definitely worth taking even if it's not your major!
She's incredible but try to really apply yourself, it's not an easy class but you'll learn a lot.
Let me start off that this class is a Poly Sci class, NOT an english class. The teacher grades very heavy on discussions, she also expects you to know information she has NOT taught, and wants more in depth detail on every example you give on a 250 char DISCUSSION POST. Very vague on what she wants, and the class has a total of 1000 points.
She's really nice and gives MAD extra credit (around 5%). Her lectures were pretty straight forward. GROUP PROJECTS SUCK though, and she is ALWAYS like a month behind on grading.
she is a nice professor, but harsh on grading and does not answer your questions if you are less informed about politics. I respect her a lot. she is disciplined. her exams are very weird . 5 long ANSwer questiones worth 100 points
If you plan on taking this class, I would highly recommend taking Professor Sahani! Even though I got an A in this class it is a challenging class because the subject material requires a lot of reading and participation. She knows her stuff and, she gives out a lot of extra credit so do it, it's worth up to 10% added on to your final grade!
Professor Sahani is very fair in her grading and amount of work for her class. She has alot of experience in her field which makes her classes interesting. If you go are struggling, go to her office hours, she will explain more in depth to you. If you show up and pay attention, it's not a hard class to get an A and she gives alot of extra credit.
TAKE THE ONLINE HYBRID COURSE IF YOU CAN!! EASY A
She is a nice person and has great lectures but she is a tough grader, she expects you to do tons of homework and assumes everyone is an expert in PS. She will take off a lot of points from your finals and midterms so make sure to ace the quizzes and discussion assignments to do good overall.
HARDEST GRADER ALIVE. for no reason too. She grades hard and then isn't able to explain why she gave you a bad grade. She does not care about her students succeeding at all and only cares about herself.
not an easy entry level class but passable. if you make sure to complete every assignment and the numerous extra credit opportunities you'll probably do well with average or above average test scores. the course paper is a tough one as everyone i spoke to during finals said they received a bad grade. clearer grading criteria wouldve been nice
Professor Sahani is an EXTREMELY hard grader but she is the smartest woman ALIVE. She is experienced & very intelligent which makes you respect & admire her. She has helpful, in-depth lectures but her quizzes, tests, & course paper are very hard, so STUDY & read!! Also, keep up with current political affairs, both for class & personal knowledge.
Prof Sahani is a very smart and passionate prof in the field of Politics. She has a lot of extensive hands on experience in international politics. That being said I would say that getting an A in this class is possible but will take a lot hard work and effort. 1 midterm, 1 final, non cumulative, quiz for every ch except 1 and EC worth up to 4.5%.
Offers a lot of extra credit and had really interesting lectures. Was able to balance student discussion and lecture in class. Slow grader but understandable why. The exams and research paper can really make or break your grades so do well on the online quizzes to make it easier. She understands that if all students are struggling she has to adjust
Prof. Sahani's lectures are run mainly on group discussion. Expect to read about 30 pages a week from the text. She is tough grader in terms of writing, but if you ensure you write clearly, explain, and use common sense you can get by. She gives you every opportunity to succeed in midterms and finals.
Sahani is very intelligent and interesting during lecture. However, she takes an exceptionally long time to grade material. Multiple quizzes, discussion posts, a term paper, and two tests.
I took Model United Nations with professor Sahani and it was excellent. The class was like an internship for diplomacy, and you can learn many things about diplomacy, and in same time, you can also improve writing and public speaking skills. For poli sci majors I highly recommend this course. And about the grade, the class is an easy A.
She talks the entire time nonstop. Be prepared to only talk about the Middle East too. High pitch voice for those with heating devices you may have to turn it down.
The professor relies heavily on a service called InQuizitive, if you dont know what this is please look it up before taking this class. This professor is lecture heavy but what the lectures cover is fairly light. The professor occasionally gets details wrong, for example in my class she said Steve Walker was the last recalled CA governor.
An interesting one. The worst lecturer I've had, but by far one of the nicest personalities I've come across. Do the work, you'll get a high A. She adjusts based on the performance of the class and is very very fair (curved the midterm and adjusted course paper grades). Comprised of discussions, tons of extra credit, quizzes, two tests, and a paper
Grades were never kept up to date. I went into my final without knowing my midterm or midterm paper scores. Professor was not very responsive. There were many "technical issues" where she didn't set the proper time for assignments. Disorganized in general.
If you want to do well in the class, youll have to take the time to legitimately read everything and NOTE ALL THE TABLES AND GRAPHS, etc. Also, make sure to define all terms before talking about them or youll fail. She is a hard teacher but worth taking a class with because shell set the standards straight for you. Make sure to buddy up also.
Took the full online PS1, be sure to expect discussion posts, 10 chapter quizzes, 1 paper, 1 midterm, and 1 final. She used Inquisitive, some are hard but you can find on Quizlet. The final we have to take on campus. But she allows one-page cheat sheet which is good. LOTS of extra credit(+7%), easy A over SUMMER. Be sure to check due dates lol.
Very demanding work load, but if you do all the extra credit she offers, stay on track with the inquiztive assignments, and do well on most of the quizzes then you should be okay. Also essay given had no clear guide lines, so make sure to answer each part of question in the thesis. Tough grader but always go above the minimum with discussion posts.
Sahani's lectures are about the most fascinating things you could listen to. Your IQ will raise when you're done with any one of her classes. They are tough, especially if it's your first semester or you have little knowledge of political affairs. Nonetheless, you can pass with an A/B. She's a fantastic preparation for University classes!
Really cool lectures but heavy on hw & a tough grader. Luckily, the weekly quizzes/hw are easy if you try & there's extra credit! the papers were graded harshly but with effort youll do okay. Study for the exam! Earned an A on coursework, but she takes role & if you miss more than 2 days she will deduct 1% of your final grade, I got a 89%.
If youre in MUN, its not hard to get an A or B. However, if you're gonna take a class besides MUN that may not be the case. Its OK if shes a harsh grader, if she could justify/explain why she gave you that grade but she cant, according to other reviews. It shows that her bias interferes with your grade, like many professors.
She is super unorganized and confused and one of the worst professors in IVC.
Professor Sahani is the most insightful staff on campus in my opinion. She is well informed, keeps it real, and her lectures are amazing while still allowing students to bring in their own input. Her classes are not easy and she will definitely make you work if you want that A. Work hard and read all the material and you'll be just fine.
She is the worst professor at IVC. She grades so hard and treats this class like you have no other classes and assigns SO much homework. All the quizzes are proctored on proctorio and are SUPER detailed. She grades the midterm in final SUPER HARD. I changed my major because of how bad this class was. want to have anxiety for 16 weeks? take this!
During COVID-19: Love Sahani's lectures because she is so knowledgeable in the field. She makes you WORK for that A! I put a lot of effort into this class, so if you want an A be sure to do well on quizzes (kind of tough), midterm, course paper, and final. Read the textbook and listen to her lectures and you should be good!
Honestly I started to take this class because I needed it as a general ed course. I have more homework and reading for this class than my Calc class. This class is extremely difficult and the workload is not appropriate for a 3 unite course. I have a 3.9 GPA, and right now I am crying because I do not think I am going to get an A in this class.
This is the most horrible professor that I have ever taken. Very inconsiderate, specially during covid. Literally grades everything after the semester is over so the whole time you have no idea how you are doing. The workload is insane. Its funny how she doesnt accept late work but takes literally 2 months to grade an essay.
This professor was horrible for an online summer class. She took until the end of the semester to grade anything work that we completed leaving me stuck in the class not knowing how I was doing. Takes forever to respond to emails... her midterm had us write 4 paragraphs with multiple choice questions with not enough time. STAY AWAY!! SAVE YOUR GPA!
Professor Shirin Sahani is such an excellent illustrator. She helped me and all my classmates by her outlines for each chapter, flashcards, exam review conferences before each of the midterm exam and the final exam, and most importantly by her motivating and supporting spirit. In short, she has a caring, respectful, and honored personality. Thanks
hella easy but the grind is real. the worst pt of this class wasn't the material, it was the work you had to put into the class. discussion + comments, tests, quizzes and the inquizative (no sweat), and the paper. gotta pay $40 for textbook + inquizative easy A if you do all work and take a day beforehand to study and prepare for tests
Very demanding, hypocritical, and unorganized professor. Accepts no late work, but somehow takes months to grade. The whole time you are in the dark and you really dont know what grade you are getting until its too late to do anything about it or drop it.
Horrible professor. I dont understand what she is getting paid for specially since all the classes are online, and you have to read and learn the textbook yourself, and takes forever to grade. I have never had a professor take this long to grade.
Her class was very confusing, and unorganized. It is not easy to reach her, and she is not helpful at all.
Don't trust the rest of these reviews. Probably from a bunch of students that didn't want to put in the effort. So, while some of the comments suggest she's intimidating and a hard professor, she's brilliant, caring, and one of the best IVC has to offer. Especially if you are a poli sci major, her expertise and knowledge has made IVC/MUN the best.
I took Sahani for American Gov and it was pretty okay but don't take this class unless it is something that you are actually passionate about like she assumes you are. Expected to be up to date in current politics in the MENA region. I don't feel as if I was taught anything as much as had a discussion about a bunch of politics I was unfamiliar with
Lots of essay discussion assignments. Uses confusing inquisitive program that complicates the homework.
Let me tell you, This Professor controls the grade. For example, even tho I have been in love with politics and I know politics very well for over 20 years, and since the Clinton days, for some ODD reason, I was not able to reach an A. Her exams have 45% WRITTIN answers, so she controls the grade and its up to her to give you A or 40/100 if yourLky
take her classes if you are truly passionate about polisci. she will make you work for your grade, and you will need to engage with the material, but it is well worth it. she is tough but fair, and has taught me a lot.
Professor Sahani has goods and bads. She definitely expects a lot out of her students, I wouldn't this class an "easy A". Her exams are graded 50% multiple choice and 50% written, very tough grader for written assignments (including essays)! However, she is passionate and knowledgeable about what she teaches. Challenging, but an A is possible!
One of the hardest classes I ever took. Even though I did the work assigned, I still didn't do too well because of how tough of a grader this professor is. All exams are written as well as the assignments. Also, she takes forever to grade so you won't really have any idea what your final grade will be until it's too late.
I took this class and somehow managed to get an A+, purely because of the multiple choice exams. On everything that was open-ended she would contradict her own previous instructions and ask where specific parts where (I had made it a point to highlight those exact parts). She also took almost 3 months to grade simple assignments.
I took Professor Sahani for MUN in Spring 22. She structures the class to prepare you for the national MUN conferences. As long as you do the research needed for the paper and understand conference protocols, you will do very well. You should also attend her office hours to gain feedback on the assignments. There, she is very helpful.
Takes forever to respond to emails, very unfair and not understanding of personal life situations. would not recommend, choose someone else.
She provides detailed expectation for the kind of work the student is expected to submit. The class wasn't very difficult and as long as you put in the time, you'll do well.
Professor Sahani is definitely not the best out there. She takes attendance like it's high school and has strict policies about being late and not showing up. She is easily irritated, and not understanding students. The midterms are not too bad, however, you must study. Fill out the study guide she gives you the week before the exam.
My experience with Professor Sahani has been great! Her lectures are quite interesting to watch and has made me even more interested in global affairs. Make sure you study hard for the exams because they are weighted heavily. Overall, highly recommend though. Good luck everyone!
A tough teacher. If you are interested in the subjects she teaches then you will have an alright time in her class although her lectures feel unnecessary as majority of information from it is personal conjecture. She provides all the tools needed and can be extremely helpful in projects or study but is extremely bureaucratic in her conduct.
It shouldn't be too hard, you do need to genuinely give effort to her readings and discussions. As for the course paper, do not do it last minute she is an experienced professor in the field she does. Definitely do her Extra Credit, they help a lot. She also grades things really late so it is hard to know if you are doing well in the class or not.
Took her PS6 class, definitely at the harder end of the spectrum of challenging political science classes. Tough grader but if you know your stuff, you're easily able to answer the questions. Lectures were recorded weekly so were based off actual political events happening, unlike other prof who give you 10 yr old lecture videos. Very knowledgeable
You have to put in a lot of work, I MEAN A LOT. She nitpicks the discussion assignments profusely and takes forever to grade. I did not do this class for credit and so wanted to P/NP the class if I wasn't getting an A but by the time she graded(w/o making mistakes, that is) the deadline had passed. It was a frustrating class, often a Sisyphean task
Definitely would not take any courses with this professor again. The material itself is not too much but the professor ruins the class with her grading system and is unreasonable with any late work. The class itself was cool, just not with this professor. 2/10
Horrible teacher. she has no regard for her students nor does she care about their learning strategies. extremely disrespectful. and has unrealistic expectations for the class. would NOT recommend.
She love to talk and likes people who participate. Her quizzes were straight forward if you read the textbook. She has little patience and grace. You're not allowed to have technology in her class, and she calls you out if you're not paying attention. Lectures were dry. Doesn't seem like she cares about her students at all.
I never gotten a B for a class during 2 years of going to IVC but this American government class drives me crazy. This professor will give you weekly quiz with Proctorio, camera and microphone on. The lecture is not useful so read the book because you can find more information there. She slow grader and never accept late work. Response to email slo
The teacher's grading style is strict if you're trying to do more than 12 units her classes are the toughest ones you will be dealing with, and the midterms and finals are a nightmare due to having you prepare for so much that may not even show up on those exams, making you stress over questions that may even to show up, also grades way too late
Very knowledgable in her field. Now utilizes stimulation (MUN basically) in the classroom, made the class much more interactive and realistic. Exams were hard, definitely read the textbook and rewatch the lectures. Watch the lectures before class, it helps. quizzes were ok. very lenient on extra credit. Put in the work and your easy A will come!
HORRIBLE! I saw the reviews and I agree with them! She takes too long to grade, I should have known about this website before taking her class. Very strict about exams. She won't respond to my emails. She doesn't even care about her students. How can she be a professor in a good community college? I feel like I'm taking Harvard exams.
Wouldn't really respond right away, only two exams and each are 200 points, very slow grader, very harsh on grading
I took the summer course and it wasn't too bad. The lectures were a lot at times, but as long as you manage your time wisely it shouldn't be too hard. Discussion and Quizzes do require a lot of critical thinking but overall, it wasn't that bad.
Lots of reading & memorizing. Assignments require research. We're tested on topics not found in books or lectures. Citations are important, so many points are taken off it not done correctly. One assignment was to call a Senator and ask questions. You will only pass the class with an A if you read the news or have prior political knowledge.
She is actually too tough for no reason this wasn't even an honors class and she's treating it like one the midterm and finale are in both multiple and short essay answer questions. she has a quiz every week, the paper that's due at the end aswell has to 5/6 pages single spaced. she honestly needs to rethink about being a professor.
She is a tough grader who assigns too many readings. The modules are 2 weeks long but you have to complete all of the class readings by the end of the first week in order to understand her discussion assignments. The lecture videos are just her talking and not her following the slides. For an online class it was difficult with high expectations.
DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!! This teacher is extremely difficult and does not care about her students at ALL!!! She is happy to see them fail and will give you a 0 on something you fully completed for something as small as having it in the wrong format WITH NO MAKE UPS!!! I'm serious do NOT take her you will hate yourself and your life will be miserable.
DO NOT, I MEAN DO NOT, TAKE HER CLASS. I BEG YOU FOR YOUR OWN ACADEMIC GOOD!!!!!!!!!!! I took this class online, and the number of assignments she gives out is ludicrous. She is also a very tough and slow grader; you can't see your grade in real time. She also is very rude and inconsiderate when it comes to due dates and the amount of work given.
This professor is genuinely terrible. She barely grading anything through out the semester and only started grading things on the last month of semester. Not only that, she would not respond to my emails about grades that I received the proceeded to close our canvas which allowed us to not see what she was changing in our grades.
Do not take her. 2 week long modules with a ton of reading. Tests and quizzes require proctorio. Discussion boards require a lot of writing and critical thinking with a 300-word count minimum and 150-word responses. A majority of students in the class dropped/withdrew. Her lectures were hard to follow along with and were boring.
Tried taking comparative politics with her thinking she couldnt be bad just tough... not the case here. Small tedious mistakes can cost you the whole assignments and points. Exams and papers hard aswell the paper format is in a weird 6 page single space format even the works cited if it wasn't done right you get a 0. No need to be this tough.
Professor Sahani is undoubtedly accomplished and knowledgeable in her field however, her tests were unrealistically crammed in a short time and most of the class complained about her “bs” at some point amongst each other. I genuinely put everything I had into the class and still had to withdraw. Would not recommend taking this professor.
Requires a lot of memorization. Many people lack sufficient time to complete her honor class exams. She is nice in person, but won't prepare you much for the challenge she's going to give. I feel almost 80% of students dropped out from her honors class. Try to over-prepare.
She is a talented and well-versed person, however, the assignments are both tedious and graded under a microscope, to the point where minor errors in other classes that would net you a loss of 3-5 points would knock you 20 points in this class. Often relies heavily on the textbook, and is not accepting of when people stray from the "sacred texts".
The worst professor ever. The amount of work you have to do for this 3 unit class feels like a 5 unit class. Prohibts AI but uses AI in her assignments and directions, has to basically memorize quotes from her videos that are required to watch, and A LOT OF WORK AND READING. She's strict too and inconsistent. Take it at Saddleback instead or Kil.
I only attended the first class, and immediately I dropped. She assigned an overwhelming amount of work with lecture videos and reading, and told us how insanely of a hard grader she was. She seemed like a nice person, but also strict. She had a no technology policy even when taking notes.
