professional, and knowledgeable especially in clinical psych. course...checkitout
very clear reliable prof for personality; just the facts ma'am and no fluff
very boring. couldn't spark an intrest in the subject. Learnt more from the text.
Why do we need the prof when the textbook explains it all? the TA's were NEVER there. It's nice to have a job where you get paid to slack.
all you do is copy hundreds of overheads - very boring!
Matieral is boring and the TA doesn't have office hours or an email address so we can email for help. Prof marks everything so why is he getting paid??
Her classes are sometimes boring. I think that I learn more from the textbook then the lectures.
Glad she chose a comprehensive text to read from! Class was EXTREMELY boring! No effort made on behalf of the prof.
like everyone has said, she's boring, her notes suck, all you do is copy from overheads. not recommended.
she should be teaching grade 6. that's all there is to it. i think she spent 20 minutes once describing what different facial expressions look like. SO SO SOOO BORING. and you have to go to class cuz she does these random assignment things. boo.
The worst professor I have EVER had. She made an exciting subject into a snoozefest! She is so incredibly boring and should not be teaching. No one gets their money's worth out of her class.
Terrible for the previously stated reasons. Boring to the point of death. Doesn't know her own material (has to refer to course notes when someone asks a question!!! ARGH! not UNI material!) Her overheads are literally, like, 3 typed words on an overheard. Dunno how she got a PHd. She's nice tho.
Wow... this teacher was a whole new level of bad. All I can say is read the textbook because learning from this woman is not possible.
She was soooo boring! Her lectures were painstakingly sloooow. This is gonna be corny but....the personality prof was lacking PERSONALITY!
agree with all other comments, worst prof ever! doesn't know what she's talking about, can't answer questions about overheads, seems like a sweet lady but lacking in teaching skills..HOW IS SHE STILL A PROF??? made me hate psychology, thought it would be an interesting class, I was wrong, VERYWRON
seems like a nice lady but gives boring lectures. i used her class as nap time. she doesn't elaborate on anything. skip her class and just read the book and you'll do fine.
nice lady but horrible class. boering lectures, reads directly from photocopies of the text and if you ask questions she starts to stutter with nervousness. horribly boering textbook choice. rips the study of personality to one of NON-personality.
i liked her - and i didnt find it hard.. you just have to read the book before class and write down everything she says and youll be fine.
She is a real nice lady, but her lectures are very difficult to sit through. Her exams and midterms are fair. She may not teach well for a univ. level class, but she certainly understands that university is overwhelming and does help with deadlines on papers and midterms. Very nice woman.
Waste of money for those who have to pay for this course. I got an A+ and went to 10% of the classes. Read the text and don't waste your time going to class.
What a nightmare! THE most boring lectures you will evern attend, she actually reads off of photocopies of the text. Dry text too. Can't really elaborate on anything, and if you ask her to clarify something, she will repeat the exact thing she just said. Studied my a** off for the midterms and got screwed over. Asks really odd m/c questions
I absolutely hate this teacher. She is incompetent, monotonous and irritating. She should not be teaching this course, nor any university level course. She needs to respect students and learn how to teach in this type of setting.
Seems like a nice person, but incredibly boring and monotonous. Material could be very interesting, but not with her. Don't expect your marks back for the essay before you write the final. I am avoiding more classes with her.
Just say no. If you have her, drop her.
Go figure the prof to teach Personality doesn't have one! The most boring class I have ever taken by far.
Great Prof!
avoid her lik the plague and you'll STILL get stuck with her at some point!
Horrible prof. Reads right off of photocopies of the textbook. Terrible, boring..AVOID if you can!
The lectures are so dry, impossible to sit through, but it's probably the course topic. She seems nice, but needs to put the lecture slides online. It's impossible to copy them all out by hand in class.
OMG CANNOT SIT THROUGH HER LECTURES...HORRIBLE! AVOID
Awful class! Couldnt motivate myself to sit through more than half the lecture, dry, boring, reads off slides which you can get in the library. My advice...Get away while you have the chance!
She's not that bad. The exams are really predictable, as long as you have the notes and read the textbook. There are very few surprises. The class is horrible, but I think that's due to the material, rather than her. And you probably won't have a choice - no one else teaches it! You don't even have to go to class!
Really useful class. The material is very intersting. The prof isnt too bad. Tests are fair. Would be better if notes posted online.
Her classes can get boring, but this professor knows what she talking about it. Although there are no slides for her courses, she teaches directly from textbook. It's wise to read the text before class and listen to her during class in order to reinforce the knowledge (and take down anything she emphasizes).
Really nice Prof...doesn't use slides which is a huge piss off. She pretty much reads off of a paper which comes directly from the text. Tests are OK...she'll tell you something won't be on it, and then it'll be on it...so study everything. I felt she doesn't really test you on what's REALLY important...some of her questions are really weird.
Good God! She is TERRIBLY boring and her stuff is pulled out of the blue. Not as predictable as people say, especially mcqs. The short answers are ..alllriite.
TERRIBLE. I am very openminded and am in my last year of school so have many other profs to compare her to. Unfortunately I have very little respect for this prof as she makes no effort to engage students. Her lecture consists of her, head down, reading off irrelevant details, leaving you either asleep or disinterested in the subject. Read the text
soooooo boring! I literally went to 30% of the classes and the ones I did go to I just couldn't pay attention. But I still got a good mark...she makes you pay $130 for a textbook, tells you you have to read it, then photocopies the pages she likes and reads them in front of the class. complete waste of time!
In her defence, the subject can be boring (personal and psychological development). She does let you know what to study for. She does engage students, but using transparencies and videos from 1980 made me leave the class more than I should have.
very boring class/prof! reads directly out of the text every class. Easy enough to get a good mark though, just study the text.
Very nice prof, very boring material/class. She teaches History people! I could hardly come down on a person for not being able to make that engaging. She is also very willing to talk and clarify things both outside of and during class. She doesn't use virtual campus but that doesn't bother me. I guess some students are used to being spoonfed notes
Extremely boring lectures. It's a waste of time coming to class. Just read the textbook, that's what all her exams are based on. Her lectures consist of her reading notes that are regurgitated from the book (which is also incredibly expensive, buy a used one!). She's also doesn't use virtual campus or powerpoint which is very annoying.
This course was a disaster! She treats adult students like children, is unclear on assignments and test material. You could prescribe this course to insomniacs who don't respond to strong drugs-they WILL fall asleep! If you want to pay someone to read the textbook to you then this class is for you.Needless to say I don't recommend this course. Yuk!
I really liked her, and found the expectations clear. I read/summarized the textbook, so exams were pretty straight forward. You really should know the text to do well, but that's fine as it is a uni course, and some work should be expected.
Her lecturing is boring, but it was an EASY class. I would either attend class and take detailed notes or read the book, NOT both. It's the same stuff. Her tests are not hard and the paper is easy.
She is really good. I know a lot of people say that her lectures are dry but she can be funny at times too. She is very helpful and her tests are very fair. Make sure to study her overheads. Overall she is great!
Very boring. She only reads from her notes. Her questions on the exam were random and specific. They did not really reflect anything said in class
It's a very boring class but you can easily get an A. The trick is to go to the lectures she shows films as those tend to be her long answer questions. Then just don't bother with any of her other lectures because all of the test material comes from the textbook and she regurgitates everything from it. Paper is vague and hard to ace. Overall poor.
IO Psych is boring to begin with, but this woman makes it insufferable. Absolutely horrid. My apt got broken into & my laptop stolen over reading week & I wasn't allowed a deferral for my exam. Exams are fine if you read every word in the textbook, I struggled to get a B. If you're really into IO Psych, take it with someone else. Save yourselves!
terrible teacher
Her lectures basically involve reading from the textbook, so as long as you read the book carefully, don't bother going to class. She shows movies once and a while, and usually uses these for the long answers on tests. Midterms and exams ask very specific questions, but not hard to get a good mark if you know the text
She is quite boring and pretty much repeats the textbook. It isn't that bad if you read the textbook before class and then take additional notes on what she says. Tests are hard and you have to study a lot of the textbook for it. The material was hard too though(psychopathology) so she's not completely to blame. Can get a 75-80 if you study hard.
AVOID. Does not even ENABLE blackboard so you can't email classmates. Clearly does not post anything or use any form of technology. Literally reads from the textbook as you sit there typing every word. Almost half of the test questions do not reflect anything mentioned in class. Had her for 2 courses in 1 semester. Had to go to the dean. JUST AVOID
Does not use slides or overheads. Stands in front of the class and reads off her notes. Difficult to stay awake since she's not very interactive. Easiest A if you read the textbook, type word for word in class (8 pages/lecture). Tests are MCQs and 2 to 3 short answers only.
I found the class average. I did expect a lot more as I was very interested in the subject, but Dr. Griffith mostly stuck to the textbook instead of providing more personal experiences from her clinical practice. The class is easy enough but if you are interested in the subject I might suggest taking it with someone else.
I have no complaints about her. Class material is a bit dry but she is very nice and a good professor overall. Midterms and exams cover exactly what is in the textbook as well as what she teaches in class.
She seems like a nice enough lady but her class is brutal. She read word for word from the textbook and was extremely difficult to listen to. Overall the class was easy but it felt like the biggest waste of time/money. Would never take a class with her again.
She reads from the textbook and is hard to follow sometimes, but enjoyable class. I brought the textbook with me which I had read in advance and followed along and it was very easy. Midterms are MC and 2 or 3 written answers, easiest A+ I've ever gotten.
- Does not use Blackboard - Does not use lecture slides (or any visual for that matter) - Literally reads from the textbook - Material isn't naturally dry, but she makes it that way - Anybody on campus who is fluent in english could teach the class the way she does I would suggest you record the audio of lectures if you aren't buying the text
Lectures are boring, but class is easy. Don't have to buy the text book because she teaches directly from it, so take good notes. Midterm is fair, paper is annoying but manageable. Overall, decent prof.
Professor Griffith isn't terrible, the key is to take notes during class in order to pass the time (honestly). Lectures are long as she has no powerpoints of any kind, so she often has to look at her notes and repeats herself. Paper is straight forward and easy, midterm and final are both MC. Do the readings and you're set.
Reads straight from book during the lectures, but this means going to class is optional. Midterm, final, and term paper are easy to ace if you have any background in health.
She made this class unnecessarily dry. Lectures felt very long because she read right from the textbook, felt like I could have taught myself the course better than she did. You have to write everything she says in class which is about 3 pages per class. If you can take with another prof I would do it. Personally, I dreaded going to this class.
She is very dry and doesn't believe in the use of technology as a visual aid. Examples used in class can be found in textbook, however she does mention important course content that are heavily tested on midterms and final exam (not included in the textbook!). I suggest you attend class to get an easy A.
EITHER BUY THE TEXTBOOK AND NOT GO TO CLASS OR GO TO CLASS AND DONT BUY THE TEXTBOOK
Doesn't use power point slides in her course. All material covered in class is from the textbook. Read the textbook thoroughly and get ready for specific questions asked in the MC section of the exams and general models for short answer questions. There's one midterm, one essay and one final.
The driest lectures, just reads from the textbook. Ambiguous criteria for the assignment. Very inaccessible by e-mail. Basically, everything I don't want in a professor.
The worst professor I have had at university. Lectures are disorganized and boring, she doesnt post notes or make the course available on blackboard (so you have to email to get your mark and she rarely responds). Exams had obscure questions with content not mentioned in class or the textbook, assignments were vague and not graded before the exam.
There was no visual element such as a PPT during lectures making class very hard to follow. That being said, you have to write everything she says and even then it's not enough. Some MC's were very specific fill in the blanks and others seemed to cover material never mentioned in class/textbook. I don't recommend taking this class as elective.
She's the absolute most boring professor I have ever had. Everything was from the textbook; and the useless information that was not from the text book was on the midterms and the finals. I studied so hard for the course and still received a C+. The essay was 12 pages, with no guidance or re-explanation. Overall disorganized. Avoid if possible
Professor Griffit really isn't that bad. The class is boring largely due to the material (history of psychologists/philosophers). The mid-term was representative of what was learned in class and what is covered in the textbook, the paper is also fairly straight-forward.
By far the worst course I have taken at the University of Ottawa. This prof uses an overhead projector and has been teaching the same way for the last 25 years of her career. she refuses to use any kind of technology, doesn't care about the success of her students. Avoid taking this class at all costs.
Avoid anything with Shirley.
She's a very nice lady but she just talks and talks and talks during lectures, don't expect to write out your notes cause she talks so fast. Oh and uses an overhead projector from the 90's or earlier. Her exams are hard and do not properly represent what was learned in class or from the textbook. They were hard af.
Prof. Shirley isn't bad. She lectures by directly reading off the textbook. If you take good notes on what she is reading out, this isn't a difficult course. Even though she reads from textbook, it is not a good idea to skip - there are a lot of material in the text that you don't need to know. 1 midterm, a paper and final. Fair grader.
Does not use brightspace which is annoying. Content is incredibly boring. don't recommend
Midterm, Paper, Final. There are no overhead slides or online material - everything is read out loud incoherently&monotone - it's a struggle to pay attention. You have to read the textbook anyway, but go to class because she will specify which parts of the chapters to read. Exams are pretty detail heavy - study hard! She doesn't reply to emails :(
No slides, no online or in class material - just her reading off her paper about which psychologist had how many cats. Exams are insanely specific about details that you realistically will never need to know. Doesn't reply to e-mails. either go to class and write down word for word what she says or read the textbook in its entirety.
I found exams and paper grading pretty straight forward, however I did find that I taught myself most of the content through the textbook. Questions are not tricky but you do need to fully understand content. No slides, no notes, no Brightspace - so that was annoying.. Quick responses to emails and very accommodating. Sweet lady but dry content..
You need to go to class to do well. Yes, she reads directly off the text but there is soo much info in the textbook that you don't need to know. The questions that she asks from textbook are the ones in bolded letters; you don't need to read the entire textbook. The paper is marked generously. Easy to do well if you are good at memorizing.
Prof is really nice as a person, but not really great as a professor. She still uses an overhead, her MCQ are hard and expects you to memorize all philosophers/scientists for the exams. Boring content and professor. I think she should just spend her final years in Cuba or Miami.
Run away. Exams are the hardest I've ever written. No technology... just reads from notes. So many irrelevant details. If you wanna know about how a guy in the 1800s "felt rejected by his father", take her. Nice person, bad teacher. btw I found the textbook online for free, just gotta spend some time looking for it
does not use bright space online at all!! doesn't even post the syllabus. She also talks the entire lecture without powerpoint or any type of media, very hard to follow along.
As others have said, this woman is stuck in the past. Very dry lectures straight out of the textbook, limited class discussion, no discussion of current events and does not use Brightspace or any visual aid. It really seems like she stopped caring.
The worst prof I have had at uOttawa. Stands at the front of the room and talks with no media of any type. Reads directly from textbook not in chronological order, just spits out random facts. She also cannot speak. She says "um, uh, you know" literally every sentence and it is enough to drive you up the wall. Avoid at all costs.
Avoid her online classes if you can. She just rambles with no visual aids whatsoever. She doesn't answer questions, doesn't post notes, and basically reads the textbook during her lectures. If you need to have her, just read the book.
She a gem. Super sweet lady and always wants to help :) Had to read the textbook to further understand the lectures but it wasn't too much trouble.
Simply put, she is a horrible professor. Not helpful in any way and gives no feedback/impression of wanting students to succeed. No lecture slides or use of the course website, her lectures are all over the place, she mumbles and says "you know" at least every 5 words! It took over a month to get one midterm mark back... a DAY before the 2nd exam.
Online and in-person she lectures with no visual aid, she reads directly out of the textbook but not in order so you can't follow along, does not use bright space even for online courses and doesn't bother responding to emails. I also didn't receive either of my midterm grades until the day of the second midterm and during the exam period. Avoid!
For online classes, all you saw was the top half of her head, with no PowerPoint or any other visuals. She didn't upload anything on Brightspace, and her midterms difficult, and her take-home final was even harder even with the textbook. Her lectures are very dry, and difficult to pay attention to. I do not recommend her class.
If you are going into University online, avoid at all costs. Zoom meetings consist of her nose and forehead, she's reading off the to the side, & that's it. No PowerPoint, there's nothing engaging, she just reads. If you can't avoid, watch her lecture recording after on 2X speed- after you taught yourself the textbook of course.
Avoid Dr. Griffith at all costs. She gave us our paper grades AFTER the final, gave no feedback at any point, had no visual aids, didn't use Brightspace except for the syllabus (even during online schooling), didn't answer emails, etc. If you have to have her, watch the recordings on double speed and use the textbook.
Do yourself a favour and never take any class taught by this woman. I understand that she is older and may not do well with tech but there was no communication whatsoever. she never read questions in class, we had to personally email her to get grades, offered zero feedback. On top of that shes just not engaging in class at all.
I am taking her right now and her lectures are so boring. No slides, no interaction whatsoever. Get ready to read the textbook if you want to pass. 2 midterms and 1 final in 1 month!!!!! Doesn't reply to emails. We have to email for the grades and that's the only time she replies. No feedback on any assignments or hw either. I do not recommend.
