She moves very quickly which makes it impossible for you to take notes. She doesn't know what a curve is. more then half the class was failing through the second test. Class avg. on first test was a 67. Second test was even lower but made everyone take a retake. barely any weight on HW and extreme test weight. etc...
First of all, all of her classes average below a 70 on her tests and has no idea what a curve is. She gives a TON of HW that's only worth 50 out of 600 points. She teaches from her own power point in class that isn't even close to the one she gives you. So basically don't take this class unless you want to teach yourself!
Doesn't explain things clearly to the class and expects us to already know the material before we enter the classroom. Claimed to change her teaching style to benefit us, but changed it to where it hurt us more than it helped. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS FOR GOD SAKE!!!!!!!!!
She is the worst teacher I have had at UNCC. She is very knowledge able so she can not understand how to explain topics she just uses the abbreviations and its up to you to figure the rest out. The only way I am passing this class is that I have gone to at least 3 SI sessions per test. Most of the class has failed the tests and she wont curve.
She would be a good graduate professor, but she expects you to know everything before class. This defeats the purpose of a class, and being new to accounting left me confused. I thought I was bad at first, but I went to a few supplemental instructions with grad students. I realized that I was not bad at accounting, but I had a horrible professor.
This is the worst class I have ever taken. DO NOT take her. She does not teach the correct material, doesn't prepare you for tests, and doesn't provide help at all! Don't bother emailing her either, she won't respond. She gives assigned seats like we are in elementary school. Avoid at all costs. Everyone I know is failing or close to barely passing
She's nice, but she was all over the place! She acted as if we knew everything about accounting. DO NOT expect a curve and READ the book. I wouldn't have passed at all if it wasn't for reading. She doesn't teach a portion of what's on the test so you have to learn yourself, what she does lecture usually comes straight from the book.
The worst professor I've ever had at UNCC. She makes you feel as though you are the stupid one, even though she's the one not explaining things clearly. She cuts you off and does not let you speak. She doesn't take the time to explain anything. I would highly suggest taking Accounting 1 with her.
This is an incredibly difficult professor. Tests are very hard and include trick questions. Your beta psi study guide will look nothing like the test. The wileyplus homework will take hours to complete and it will not look like what's on the test. Lectures are long and you won't pass if you skip. Study with friends and hope for the best.
Shirley is the worst. She reads straight of the powerpoints and I learned more from attempting the homework and SI then going to her class. She gives quizzes in class directly after learning new material in order to "help your grade" and everyone in the class failed them. She has no sympathy for her students so dont expect her to help you at all.
The worst teacher I have ever had! Avoid at all cost!!
If you do not plan on majoring in accounting, do not waste your time in this class. She recommends studying at least 12hrs per week. Class avg on 2nd and 3rd test were 54 and 56. If you are registered with her and want an A, Buy the textbook now and read it all before the semester starts. Test questions are out of the blue and tricky.
This class was nothing but a headache with her. Even when you read the chapters ahead she runs over things to fast to even make sense of it. Her tests are ridiculously hard as well as the exam. Nothing is ever curved. Her in class quizzes hurt more than they help considering she never gives enough time to complete them.
By far the worst professor I have ever had. Works through examples incredibly fast and without clarity. She expects you to know and have mastered all of the material beforehand. Class averages on exams were in the 60s. Group quizzes didn't help, it meant 4-5 clueless students instead of one. Doesn't curve any grades.
DO NOT TAKE ACCOUNTING WITH SHIRLEY HUNTER. She does not explain any concept clearly, tests are hard, only teaches using power-p. She makes you do in class quizzes immediately after learning the material. I suggest reading before the class. No curves on any of the grades. Extremely hard and frustrating for an Accounting 1 class.
If you find yourself taking this class, take your car drive to your closest cliff or high point in town and throw yourself off. Easily the worst class you could take, great lady, awful teacher. You learn nothing at all. Plain and simple.
She is not helping. At all! She doesn't accept late hw in WilleyPuls.
She is impossible. Asking her for more clarity on a topic is like pulling teeth. I highly recommend taking this course with ANYONE else. If she is the only option left, just wait until next semester. yes, she is that bad.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!!! She'll move you around in the classroom, call people to the board like high school, and doesn't even know what she's teaching. 200 people in the final and I overheard multiple conversations on how she's the worst. Listen to these reviews. It's better to be behind on accounting than take her.
She almost made me switch out of my accounting major. I took accounting class in high school and loved it but then I took her class.... AWFUL. She does not explain anything clearly when she is doing examples on the board and then gets frustrated at the students when we ask where she got a certain number from. She also didn't know what a curve is.
This instructor is so unclear. Go to the SI sessions, study with friends or just don't take her class.
If you want to pass accounting do not take is from her! She just reads off the power, which doesn't help because I can do that myself and still don't get it. She doesn't explain anything and on top of that she's really hard to understand. Just avoid taking accounting from her AT ALL COSTS!!
Doesn't even know how to work out the homework problems she assigns to the class. She is very unclear in her lectures and doesn't care about helping you and your grades. I'm praying for all who have to take her.
Dr. Hunter is hard to understand; she is from South Africa. Her powerpoint come from the book publisher and she reads directly from them which are verbatim with the book. She is not helpful, unclear, unknowledgeable, and ill prepared in this course. She gives group quizzes however never explains correct answers. Tests are hard.
Class is extremely hard! Not a good teacher at all does not care about students or your grades. Everyone in my class is failing or barely passing she is the worst teacher at this school. Avoid taking her class if you can take a different teacher wait. whatever it takes avoid this class if you want to pass accounting.
The other ratings are not exaggerations. Professor Hunter, though passionate and knowledgeble about her subject is far from useful. If you *must* take this course with her go to SI, get tutoring, read the book dilligently, do your homeworks and practice a many questions as you can. Tests are small but hard so your questions each count for a lot.
She is very knowledgeable about accounting but she isn't great in teaching. She reads straight from the publisher PPT, and sometimes she doesn't know the answers we ask her from PPT or homework. I really don't recommenced taking accounting with her because you will hate it like I did, but If you have to read the book and teach your self.
HORRIBLE! She is a terrible teacher who does not know how to teach! Not only that, but she is incredibly rude. STUDY STUDY STUDY. Make sure that if you decide to still take this class, that you will have plenty of free time to dedicate to this class.
DO NOT take this class. Prof. Hunter, while knowing what she talks about, cannot teach it. Basically if you don't understand her the first time she "explains" something she tells you "I guess I'll see you in the summer or fall." She is very rude and clearly plays favorites. DONT TAKE HER CLASS!! You will regret it!
She is very difficult to understand and does not explain the topics well! She doesn't grasp the concept of moodle and doesn't respond to emails. BE VERY CAUTIOUS SIGNING UP TO TAKE HER CLASS!!!!
This teacher will expect you to learn everything yourself. Don't expect help, you won't get it.
Honestly, one of the worst professors I have ever had. Avoid her at all cost. She starts day one expecting you to already know the material, and instead of explaining it, she just reads from the book or her slides. Results for one of the tests we had was so horrible, she had to give us a retake. No matter how hard you study, you'll still fail.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! Professor Hunter is very rude and could care less if you pass or fail. If you make a C in her class then you are well above the class average. I was stuck with this teacher and ended up putting all my time into this class, taking my focus away from others.
She is awful, doesnt teach and you cant pass without tutoring.
Mrs. Hunter biggest problem is that she expects you to know everything accounting in a introductory course. She does not take the time to explain material instead she works on problems with the hope that you get it. I would not recommend this class to anyone. I advise you. Select only if desperate for the needed class!
She is a nice lady, but does not take the time to explain her lecture. If you want to pass this course, tutoring is a MUST.
DO NOT take her. I repeat DO NOT take her. The other reviews are spot on and if not they are too nice. Most of the test averages were a C at best. Does not know how to teach at all. Tells you not to study your book for tests but pulls questions from the book. Expects you to know accounting better than you know how to walk even on the first day.
Clear expectations, but poor execution. Very little willingness to work with students. Overly strict with certain policies. Doesn't cover material well. Material is essentially self-taught. If you want to pass, get in a good group and work/study together often.
DO NOT TAKE! She does not clearly explain everything and makes the material harder than it should be. Not helpful at all and is never happy with her life.
ACCT 2121 is an extremely tough course overall. Hunter's lectures are dry, she literally reads off the slide and moves on without any explanation of the problem. For one exam the entire class had to retake it because the average was below a D. You must be walking on water if you pass this class!
not helpful at all during class. Expects you to learn the entire lesson from textbook by yourself. Dear God, please don't take this class
AVOID TAKING HER AT ALL COSTS! She is 0 help in class ( she literally laughs when you ask questions), only reads from her dry powerpoints & then gives clicker questions as if you suddenly understand everything. Be prepared to teach yourself & attend tutoring sessions multiple times a week because that's the only way you'll pass.
I'll preface this by saying that all the comments about her class' difficulty are true. If you don't read or study outside of class, you will not receive a passing grade. She will call you out to answer questions in class and she does essentially have assigned seats. However, if you pass her class you WILL understand the basics of Accounting.
I could write a book as to why you shouldn't take her class but the other ratings say it all. Honestly, I'd just advise that you just take another teacher unless you're looking for a way to lower your GPA.
Ms. Hunter has been by far the hardest class I've taken in the business college so far. She made ACCT 1 much harder than ACCT 2 when it shouldn't have been. She makes sure you know the material, because she will randomly call students out during class to make sure. If you do have her as a teacher, getting through her class will make ACCT 2 a breeze
Dr Hunter is one of the best professors I have ever had. Yes she works you hard, and if you are looking for an easy grade do not take her class but if you want to learn accounting then she is the one you need to take. I have never learned so much from a single professor.
Excellent ACCT 2121 teacher! This was my second time taking ACCT 2121 and she was a much more organized, professional teacher. Clear grading structure. Curved every test and the final! Accounting concepts are hard to grasp in general! Finished the final with an 89 and got a B in the course. I don't understand why her ratings are so low!
Dr. Hunter is tough but in a way that is beneficial in preparing for future business courses. She's available to help if you seek assistance/clarification and is very upfront and clear on her expectations. She's willing to help you if you're willing to put in the work (be proactive and professional). GREAT preparation for a career in business!
This class isn't easy, Dr. Hunter is a professor that is ready to review not introduce the material in class. Make sure to read the chapters before class in order to get an understanding because she does not spend time going over the basics. Class with her is basically going over examples without much time spent on each, expect to get called on!
I toke her for Accounting 1 and she was amazing. Reason for her low rating? I have no idea because if you read the book and follow her lectures, you could make an A. I got an A in her class and she's my favorite accounting professor!
This was the worst teacher I've had in my 15 years of being in school. Not even really close.
This is a college course, not a high school course. Don't expect to be babied. Read the chapters before class and pay attention during class. She will call on random students, normally the people who sit in the back get called on the most. But really, this is not a hard class, just read the chapters and you won't need much else.
Extremely tough professor. Avoid at all costs.
Shirley is a great instructor, the class is difficult and you really have to apply yourself, you cannot just show up to class and expect to receive an A. Clicker points, quizzes, and homework matter and could make the difference between an B and an A. Do not skip class! She cares about what she teaches and really wants each student to learn.
Read, read, read! You must read the chapters before every class because she has clicker questions during class, they aren't worth much though. Participation is mandatory. Be ready to answer questions, she does it to keep everyone awake. Overall, I enjoyed her class and sitting in the back just means she will call on you more.
She has a lot of good credentials, but this is a hard class to begin with and she is not nice at all. She is rude a lot of the time, talks in a monotone, calls on you and puts you under the spotlight in front of the entire class. This is a mandatory class for business majors, I recommend either not taking her or not taking her during the summer.
Professor Hunter is a great teacher! In summer the class is fast paced, skipping class is a bad idea because there are polling questions everyday. Do HW and the questions in class and graded assignments, the test questions are usually HW q's and poll everywhere q's w/different values. Graded assignments are (almost) always harder than tests.
Dr. Hunter is tough & I think it is beneficial to students. Acct is hard and taking her will give you a solid foundation. She randomly calls on students all the time so you have to pay attention. She curves the tests which helps out. Taking Acct with her helped me discover a strength & passion. I changed my major to Acct partly b/c of it and her.
I needed to replace my terrible grade given by Prof. Sofsky, and Dr. Hunter did an exceptional job at helping me understand the material. She does randomly call on people so make sure you pay attention. She appears to be cold to students at first but actually does care, and if you seek help from her she will do everything she can.
She is rude, she mispronounces everything which makes it so much more difficult to understand the already challenging material. She will be VERY unprofessional, makes fun of you in class, and acts condescending to everyone. Apparently she IS nice if you say something after class but honestly not worth it. DONT TAKE
Takes her time going over problems with students in class. Calls on you to make sure you pay attention and understand the material. Overall a good teacher that not only she knows her stuff but also knows to teach it to students.
Shirley Hunter is the worst. Every class period, she calls on as many people as possible at random, and if you dont know the answer, shell make fun of you. Very frustrating when you just want to learn how to do the basics of Accounting. Her lectures dont help you to understand the steps to completing problems, but rather make u feel overwhelmed.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. By far worst professor I ever had. I bombed the first two tests and had to drop the course. Its one thing that this is the hardest class Ive ever taken, but its another pairing that with the worst teacher ive ever had. Shes hard to understand, completely robotic, unhelpful, and makes a point to call on each students
Shirley Hunter is the worst proffessor I have ever had. I do not reccomend her to anyone who needs to take this class. There is a reason that her classes are the only ones with openings in them.
I had to retake ACCT 2121 the first time I made a D (with a different professor) and this time with Dr. Hunter I made a B. ACCT is a very hard class to begin with and is very fast paced so it is not the professor's fault if students do not understand the material. She likes to call on students and will learn every students name, so be prepared.
Do not take her. She thinks her class is the only thing thats important, she got mad at my classmates when they had to register for next semester classes during her class because that was their set registration time. When they told her thats what they were doing, she still wasnt happy, and nearly made them leave. She also cannot explain anything
If you are willing to put in the effort then you will pass the class. Otherwise, dont bother trying.
She may look sweet but she's not very good at teaching. Tests are lot heavier than they need to be and look forward to a lot of hw.
Take Accounting with any other teacher but Dr. Hunter; she makes the most simple content hard to understand and teaches redundant information in class, while the quizzes and tests ask for more info than she teaches. If I could go back to registration period, I would chose a different teacher to give myself a chance at passing this class.
For her class, you really have to prepare outside of class before lecture. She goes really fast through the material so there is not as much time to take notes during the class so I prepped before class and then during class, really paid attention to what she pointed out and that was really beneficial
Ms. hunter is a great professor who attempts to explain lectures the best she can. You will be called on to answer questions but never does she treat a student harshly if they dont know the answer. Homework is assigned every week but its really not the bad. As long as you understand the first four chapter, everything else wont be hard to grasp.
Shirley Hunter is not who I would take for accounting. The class is hard as it is, but with her, it's harder. Tests are a lot of your grade and homework is heavy.
Accounting is a hard class overall, best to read the chapter before class and pay great attention. There is a lot of work given. She does not explain the material in detail, so it is hard to understand what she is talking about until you read the chapter.
She does not really care about the success of her students. If you ask a question about the topic, she'll dance around the question and won't actually give an answer. Gives homework on topic that she has yet to go over and forces the TA to be more of a teacher than herself. God bless Steven, may he prosper in life.
Dr. Hunter calls on random people in her lectures and expects you to know the answers without teaching it. If you think you understand the material and the chapter homeworks that are given. You are wrong. She does not go over material that is on the test and even when you do study, the types of questions she asks are impossible.
The comments you'll read are for the most part true. YOU WILL HAVE TO READ THE MATERIAL AND UNDERSTAND BEFORE SHE GOES OVER IT. However, if you are motivated and actually want to do well the key is to be attentive in class. If she realizes that you are putting effort in she will go out of her way and try to help you.
WORST ACCOUNTING TEACHER EVERR!!! MOTIVATION AND GOING TO CLASS DO NOT HELP!!!!! She is awful, and has a terrible attitude in the classroom. She is not helpful, I have tried to get help from her during office hours, and she just wants to review my tests, and not help me with the next test. She doesn't care!
Compared to my 1st attempt, she was immaculate. Take her Tools provided to succeed: Gives in-class worksheets and works through them as a class. Read the chapters before the first class of the week Gives great study instructions and tools to succeed on canvas and in class Things to keep in mind: You will get behind fast if you don't apply yourself
If you want a good grade you have to go to lectures. Lectures were really helpful for understanding/practicing the material. Tests were difficult but she gives you plenty of resources to practice. If you put in effort you will do good in her class. A negative is that it is pretty fast paced so you need to stay on top of what she is going over.
Dr. Hunter is a phenomenal professor. I had in the fall of 2018 and finished with an A. It's not an easy class and she will make you work for it, but she it willing to help you if you try. If you just come to class, not participate, or don't ask questions she's not going to baby you. Great teacher. Great lecturer. Awesome person.
Absolutely the worst professor I have ever had. She is knowledgeable in her field but could care less about teaching it well. She will call on you randomly in class and she speeds through lectures. She seems to be disconnected from reality as she makes little sense when talking one on one. This is a difficult course but she makes it worse. AVOID!
Very good professor, her lectures cover everything you need to know on tests and assignments. All of the assignments are normally started in class and worked on at home and over the next couple classes. Have it done though! She doesn't take it late. She does have a kind of monotone voice so you have to be engaged in the class to get the material
She is super smart in her field, but a horrible teacher. She assumes we already understand accounting, and can't bring it down to entry level. I like her as a person and she is willing to meet outside of class, BUT her exams will wreck you if you don't study her RECOMMENDED 4 HOURS PER DAY. Don't take her if you have other priorities in your life.
At the beginning of the semester we were told going to UCAE tutoring would give us half a point on our final grade per session we went to capping at 5 points. She lied and made it a mandatory part of your grade. I cant fault her in it working only in the fact that she lied. Class is boring she is the worst TEACHER but she is incredibly intelligent.
She is an ok person aside from the fact she cant pronounce people name correct even as simple as "Allie" she calls "Ollie" every single day. Practically all lectures and she goes over it a bit then moves on and if you ask a question she acts like your a moron. You wont pass if you skip or dont read. Material is pretty easy as you would expect.
I don't understand the way there are all these negative reviews. Come to class, do the homework, and you'll be fine. This class really isn't that difficult. Just don't slack and you'll be fine. She's not going to baby you and ACCT 2121 is a weed-out course because it actually requires students to learn something different.
Dr. Hunter was a great professor for ACCT 2121. Her low ratings are probably due to how fast she speeds through a lecture to get material in, but she is always willing to help you out and answer questions. She genuinely cares about you as a student and wants you to succeed. Homework every unit but not super difficult.
Pay attention in class and you will be fine, the TA's are incredible. Wileyplus Chegg, tests are hard but i mean its accounting
Do not take Hunter unless you actually read textbooks. She is very smart but goes very fast in lectures. If you do not read ahead you will be lost. TA's will be very beneficial in this class. Try to go to the PAL sessions but beware of the ones that are held by BAP (not as good as the ones by the TA).
