This TA was excellent and helped me get into teacher's college. When you want help, you ask for it, don't expect it. One helps those who want to be helped. University is about self learning, not for teachers to spoon feed you...Shirley, keep up the good work!!!

Ms Shirley is a compassionate sensitive and approachable person. Her concerned for student's advancement is one to none. She talks time to explain concept in her class. So keep it up.

Shirley is by far one of the best TA's I have encountered in my life at York. She was extremely helpful and went above and beyond the call of duty. I don't seem to understand all the bad/evil comments people are leaving about Shirley. I had her as my T.A and then she became our prof. towards the end of the year. I strongly have disagree with most of these comments as her being the worst T.A/Prof ever. I found her extremely helpful and very easy to speak to. She is an amazing professor period!!

If i could have her in every class i would!! its that simple. She made a boring class interesting.

Without a shadow of a doubt, professor Ramsarran is one of the most amazing professors I have ever encountered during my 4 years of York University. Her methods of teaching is very effective, and most definitely encourages students to learn. She is definitely an asset to York University.

Awesome professor. Perhaps because it was the summer but she really tried to help her students excel in the course and with the material been taught. She took suggestions regarding the syllabus and changed it to meet the needs of the class...how many professors actually do that? Excellent work Prof! - I actually learned some beneficial information!

Dr. Ramsarran is truly a brilliant professor! She does something many profs can't! Which is to teach us how to think critically for our post-university career,i also saw that comment on the expectation to complete 20 questions in one hour,that is a very realistic expectation for a 4th year Sociology seminar.highly recommend you take her class!

As someone who has taken two of her classes, she is by far the professor whom I have had the most fun with. Not only that, but she makes the classroom environment incredibly open and friendly. In my opinion, those who are negative about her do not pull their weight in class. Do the readings, conceptualize, and you will be laughing!

One of the most engaging professor's I've had at York, she really knows her stuff and if people would only stop complaining about her and just pay attention, they would realize that she has a lot to offer, and is a great teacher! Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn.

As a forth year student, I have in my first time at York U, been able to grasp the true meaning of how to conceptualize course concepts/material rather than being descriptive. Dr Ramsarran is one of the best @ YorkU. She doesnt allow students to undermine her & she is very fair. Some have a problem due to pre-conceived notions of what/how they should be taught & who is qualified to teach them. This is not high school! Do ur readings,think critically & participate in ur classes: That is how U will succeed in her class.

I wish I had met this prof. in my 1st year. This is not a ?bird-course?. I had to learn to think conceptually and critically from a political economy perspective: That is different from what I am used to. Thank you Prof. Ramsarran.

I love this professor! I'm not a flawless student but I found that every time I sought help from this prof, she was welcoming of any questions without hesitation. I wish I knew her in my first year. She's funny and actually takes great care of herself...see for yourself! All in all - a GREAT prof! Hoping to have her classes in the future.

I am in her Women Work and Family online class...and I'm reading what other students in the same class are saying about her...and I can see where they are coming from...BUT the class work is ridiculously easy...I literally put no effort in and I'm getting a B+...the test were a piece of cake..B+ on both with no studyin or prep...Easy A, and im HR

To continue what I was saying below-She gave us the test questions way before the test-ample time to prepare an answer-her test consist of readings you've already done and apply theory to it (Marx, political economy..ect)-very easy stuff, and Im a HR student-students may not like her personality but the course ONLINE is easy-so take it online

I LOVED the subject. Loved it even more by the way Dr. Ramsarran taught it. She loves what she teaches and she transmits that love to her students (at least those who are there to learn). Our section was for HRM students and Dr. Ramsarran constantly bridged the two disciplines (Sociology & HRM). I felt comfortable & looked forward to each class :-)

Dr.Ramsarran is a great prof especially for a first year course. If you're in first year, do yourself a favour and take a class with her. Her lectures keep you engaged. The assignment was challenging especially if you aren't used to writing critically, but she is willing to help if you ask her. Great Prof and great course!

Dr. Ramsaraan is a really great prof! She makes the workload easy for first year students to handle and the exams were straightforward as long as you paid attention during class and did the readings. She is willing to help if you ask her, so take advantage of that. Overall, great course and I highly recommend both the course and the prof!

This prof is great. She's really passionate about her subject. It is better to have her in a smaller lecture (mine was fewer than 50 students) for more one-on-one and class discussions. Her tests are difficult. I got a C on the first 2 exams and my paper, but somehow ended the year with a B+.

Came to this class with an open mind even though my views contrast drastically than most who would be attracted to this course. To my surprise, Professor Ramsarran is a straight shooter, authentic, with an affinity for 'keeping it real'. If you have a condescending tone and are a know it all, you will be duly put in your place. I love this teacher.

I wud not recommend dis prof if ur da type of student dat needs things spoon fed to u. If ur lookn 4 a Power Point Professor look elsewher. Shes of da old skool of teachn. U kno da kind were prof speaks n students listen. No cells, no laptops, no BS. Ur taken for granted beliefs will be challenged. If u cannot think critically u need not apply.

Dr. Ramsarran is knowledgeable, hilarious, engaging, and repetitive (in a good way). Despite the fact that she is strict when it comes to laptop use and cellphones during lectures, she always makes sure lectures are worthwhile. She invites guest speakers in (of course it relates to the course) and they definitely add more emphasis to the concepts.

I honestly like professor Ramsarran. The content of the class if really interesting. It's without a doubt an easy A+. I learned so much from it. She is a wonderful prof once you talk her. Love having conversations with her!

Shirley is an amazing lady, who cares for her students. She likes to intimidate students and put them in their place. no phones allowed, but this is to your advantage, you will get an A+ from listening to her in class and using what she says in your test answers. Very flexible with tests and syllabus. EASY A+ if you show her RESPECT and listen!

If you want an A handed to you, stop reading the rest of this post. Professor Ramsarran cares for her students and makes you work for your grade. Show up to class, participate, do the readings and you will be fine. Her teaching style is very interactive with students and she CARES. Pay attention in class and this will be the best course for you!

I really enjoy taking her class !! she is very knowledgeable and a smart woman. I love the fact that she accepts new knowledge from students; in other words, she is open-minded and receptive to learning from her students. She is straightforward and wants each student to be critical when approaching an assignment or answering questions. REAL DEAL

My favourite class and professor. Dr. Ramsarran is an amazing professor and individual. She breaks down difficult material and makes it easy for you to understand because she cares about her students and takes her work seriously. I am inspired by her to say the least. Warning: Ignore the negative comments about her on here because they're NOT true!

An old-school teacher. Barely relies on Moodle so there's a lot of miscommunication with deadlines and tasks. ATTEND CLASS. READINGS ARE ESSENTIAL. I could have got a higher grade had I managed my time better. She opened my mind to a lot of sociological issues that I will carry for life. Very enthusiastic, caring, and she makes us think critically.

An amazing experience; absolutely one of my favourite classes throughout university. An amazing woman, very smart and makes you think critically. Boosts your confidence, and will help you any way she can. Brilliant work ethic, and an absolutely must-have course if you can take it!

Shes a good prof who cares about students, especially with online she's been very lenient and accommodates for difficulties with elcass/moodle. the material she expects is all in lecture and she sometimes provides test questions before hand. you will have to do the readings but they aren't heavy. i'd say its an easy A.
