Good teacher. Only tests are the midterm and final. A lot of reading but highly recommended.
Good instructor. Only does mid-term and final for tests. A lot of reading.
there is a lot of reading. a few words of advice: do not procastinate.
I took this class over a summer session. The professor doesn't communicate well with students but it's easy enough.
She's is intetesting and pretty good. Grading?
mini-mester, your going to be married to the books. Buy them else where much cheaper, UNLV has the other books available in their stacks so don't buy them. Expect 300~400 word essays a day, be active in discussion, and if possible start early on everything. Test are 4hr essay format. kill a diversity credit in two weeks.
Nice Professor. Little confusing on assignments. Very willing to work with you.
This class wasn't so bad. It's required for all history majors. Weekly discussions and 4 papers make up the class. The papers are pretty easy and spread apart, just takes a little time. The discussions are easy and based off of the reading.
Took as a summer class, was worth it but wasn't easy. Had 400-500 essay assignments every night and two four hour exams. Than finished the class off with a 9 page essay. If you have the time the class is worth it. Pretty easy grading just don't skim on the details in your assignments.
A very serious, but excellent professor. Demands that you do the work, but recognizes when you do. Does a great job of keeping to a course schedule, and is just a good professor. I have had her for several classes, and she is awesome. Could not give her any higher praise. I am lucky to have been her student.
definitely not a class you can bs your way through. there is a lot of reading to do. i'll have to retake this class only because i slacked off and i have no interest in history (it was the only class available)
lots of reading. she doesn't communicate well if you have a question. loved history courses until this one
I can't stress enough how wonderful this professor is. She loves this subject and teaches it well. Her passion for this subject may not translate well online, she is very charismatic. This class is not going to be the easiest A but you will enjoy the discussions and come out of it with a better appreciation Woman's contribution to history.
Dr. Brautbar is the best history professor! Much reading and discussions among a paper, blogs, podcasts, and responses. Everything a student could use to learn as much as they can. Much work for the student! Do not skimp on the details in her class and do not fall behind. CITE!
Be prepared to do READ, READ, and READ as well as WRITE, WRITE, and WRITE. You must be able to read several books. Her exams are 4 hrs long, but the only tests you take. Be prepared to spend a lot of time reading!
This class is not easy. There is a lot of reading and a lot of writing!!The midterm and final are in class essays so you must be prepared. We had two Holocaust speakers come to school and also attended the Holocaust Research Center in Las Vegas. Excellent professor overall and is extremely knowledgable. I highly recommend her!
Yes, a lot of reading & writing. I took the class online & as long as you read the material the discussions are pretty simple. The exams are essay, but you can use your book which is helpful. She let me meet with her in person to explain the final paper & also lend me books for resources. I learned a lot & have a new appreciation for history!
Be prepared to READ and WRITE. She does not mess around. She would be a good grad. prof. TOUGH... Never fall behind. Stay prepared. You have to much to read and research, so put this class #1 on your priority list.
Genuinely cares about student success. Worthwhile assignments.
Great professor!! Very passionate about History! Definitely more than willing to help anyone with anything regarding papers and assignments. Very compassionate with others and how they learn. :)
This was a 6 week summer class and quite a bit of work. The material covered was very interesting and I love this era of history (Ancient Civilization). We have weekly discussion posts, a midterm, final which were essay based and a 9-10 pg research paper. Overall it wasn't too bad and Dr. Brautbar was a helpful professor with good feedback.
Read, read, read!! Very easy class if you pay attention to the text and lectures. It helps to be thorough in detailing assignments posts and papers.
Easy A if you read, read, read and elaborate answers on papers.
A LOT of reading, but easy class.
Easy class, but teacher does not provide clear instruction or feedback.
I took her Hybrid class.. She was an amazing teacher. It's important she sees your effort. Will help really help you. Class wasn't to hard. Loved her!
She is very nice and helpful. A lot of reading but worth it. Assignments are pretty easy.
This class was a killer. Took all my time to read everything but it was also a 6 week summer class. Dr. Brautbar is incredibly nice and helpful (I met her in person). She is also a lenient grader understanding not everyone likes history and we have to take this class. Don't procrastinate though.
Lot of reading.
I took her hybrid Hist 102 and I felt it was a little easier. As for the Hist 101 online course you get weekly discussion boards, 2 response papers, midterm, and Final paper. The class isn't bad, just a lot of reading outta both books. Overall she's a great teacher and more than willing to help with anything.
Professor Brautbar is by far the best history teacher that I have taken at NSC. Her lectures are full of information and are interesting and her assignments are meaningful. I recommend everyone to take her.
This is a good teacher, a lot of work but the work is not overly hard. You must do the readings for the mid term and the final because the material will be applied. The time goes quick in class, there is a presentation, a midterm, a final, a book report and an essay using 4 books that is to be 6 pages long. Grade _A-
Dr. Brautbar is by far my favorite History prof. at NSC. She delivers the content in a way that is engaging and interesting. Read the books and you'll be fine. Mid-term, discussion, presentation, paper, book review and final. These are not hard if you keep up on the reading.
Wonderful professor. second time taking her and i would again. some of her directions need some clarification but she will email you back quickly with help.
Dr. Brautbar is by far the best History professor @ NSC. I took Women's History since it is a passion and she challenged me to think beyond my already bias opinion towards women in history. She encouraged us to really understand the plight of women through primary sources. She's has a wealth of knowledge ask and she will help. Papers & discussions.
Lot's reading
Though you will read a lot, and you will more than likely have a 8-10 page paper to write, Professor Brautbar is an easy class so long as you show up, read, participate and get the work done. She is fair, real easy going and very knowledgeable.
I've taken several classes from her and she is the best history teacher at NSC. She knows her subject and is able to answer any question. She makes you think and work for your grade but you learn a lot in her classes.
One of the best history professors at NSC. Class was 8 weeks and the content was interesting. The only bad thing from the class was that you have to reply to 2 other people and some of them take the question to serious and get offended easily. one research paper and a final. Very helpful and understanding.
Great professor and provides excellent feedback. Do not expect to just show up and rush your assignments. If you give her your best work, it will be the easiest class in the world. Get content for course!
Eye opening class! It was an emotional topic, but we went into such depth it was amazing. Speakers that we've met were amazing telling their experiences. Be prepared to read and participate because it effects your grade majorly. Group project to help teach the class "Class Leader". Final paper 7-9 pages long, but you pick your topic. Take again, yes
She is a tough grader, and her rubrics are unclear sometimes. Discussions every week, no exams but papers as mid-term and final, also one research paper. Class is pretty easy otherwise, just read the books and try on discussions and you will do well. She grades harder on papers than anything else so PROOF READ!
She's very clear in her assignments. If you need help, she'll gladly respond.
Not a very interactive class, yet you are graded on participation, so it is a bit confusing on how to earn the full point amount in "class participation".
Professor Shirli is great! She is very accessible, if you get confused or ask for clarification she will let you know what she is looking for. She is more tough on grading when it comes to the research paper and the final paper but overall, discussions are easy and intriguing.
This professor is extraordinarily rude and condescending when addressing students. Her grading rubric for all essays, is unclear, unfair and sets unrealistic expectations for students to succeed. Pompous. Extremely hard grader on essays. Take another professor is you need an A.
I took her class online and I had emailed her several times throughout the semester and never heard back from one of the emails until the very end of the semester. She is very abrupt the way that she responded at the end-- She is a harsh grader and doesn't fully explain what she wants.
Just do the reading and follow the instructions. Very helpful.
This was a 6 week online class, so it was a ton of material in a short period. That said, Dr. Brautbar did a good job of breaking the topics into chunks that could be dealt with each week, and grading on what could be accomplished. Very good feedback on papers, if you are willing to work for an A she is willing to work with you.
Short summer term class but she made it enjoyable.
Despite the short 6-week online class period Dr. Brautbar manages to get a lot of material covered. Do the reading, follow the rubric, and listen to her feedback and an A is achievable.
Dr. Brautbar is an excellent professor who genuinely cares that her students succeed. I took the class online, and she provided pdfs of all the readings. Therefore, I did not have the added expense of buying a book. Dr. Brautbar was engaging, inquisitive, and fully vested in the virtual classroom. Top-notch instructor!
I thought there was no way I would be able to do well in a short summer class, but this class was pretty cool and Dr. Brautbar is a great professor.
Difficult class, but Dr. Brautbar helps her students succeed. Do the reading, take advantage of her office hours and feedback, and REALLY stick to the prompt. Lots of reading, writing, and analysis of complex subjects. Highly recommend to serious students who want to become a more polished academic.
Prof Brautbar is a great teacher, but you must be willing to read for this class. Taking history online had a lot of busy work with discussions every week, and you have to respond to the rest of your class mates at least twice, two separate days. We had about three 5-6 page papers as well, so be ready to do research for them with the text book.
There was a lot of reading and writing required for this class.
This was a great class in a hybrid format. I learned a lot and it was very intersting. She was very clear about expectations and responded to all my questions. I have taken several classes with this proffesor and I always enjoy them.
Great instructor! Responds to emails and questions.
It was a harsh topic on the holocaust but she is a great professor. Was helpful during the virus crisis.
I think she gets a bad rap on her teaching qualities and personality. But she is very accommodating, wants you to succeed, answers all your questions, and adjust assignments not to overwork the students. I felt it was very easy. Some reading, not heavy, response to the reading (a few sentences), and one paper (5-7 pages).
She is a very nice professor and will help you if you need help. She also will help you if you want to talk about future plans and options. Interesting class.
Her grading requirement are clear. Will speak to you over the phone to answer questions. Useful feedback.
This class was very interesting. Professor Brautbar is very kind and she gives timely feedback. She grades fast and is not too tough on grading. Her instructions are very clear as well but I do have to admit that the class can be boring because the assignments are the same but for different chapters. There is a big presentation at the end it too.
Great Professor. I do not really like history but I enjoyed the class and the professor was helpful with responding to emails and questions. There is a paper at the end but you can submit a draft. You do have to read but more like skim the readings.
This is a great class especially if you are into history. Teaches you about different take on a history topic. Dr B responds very quickly to emails and grades fairly. I have had her in other classes, great prof.
Dr. Brautbar is one of my favorites at NSC. She cares for her students and is passionate about history. If you do the work, you will get a good grade.
I was nervous about taking a short 4 week winter class, but she was very understanding when I ran into some issues with work. I enjoyed the class and it was very nice to see a teacher that cares.
This prof is very kind and she inspires you to do the work. I learned about a lot of topics that I did not know about and I liked the class. It was an online class but very well designed and the assignments were timed out so that they were not overwhelming. One of the best professors I have had.
This class was about Urban history, a summer class online. The readings were interesting and the assignments were explained. She responds to emails very quickly and offered options to make up assignments.
Nice professor that will meet with you. I was super worried about taking a summer class but it was pretty easy to follow along. She met with me a few times because I wanted to go over my assignments ahead of time. I am taking a class with her again in the fall.
I really enjoyed this class as I am majoring in Pre-Law. The assignments were interesting and different than most typical classes. Lots of information on the supreme court if that is your thing. She responded to emails and the grading was pretty clear.
I had a really tough semester this year, and Dr. Brautbar was really helpful. She's very clear in her expectations and the subject was easy to follow. I would 100% recommend her class.
She has a very simple and easy assignment plan. She only gives out a discussion and a quiz every week and the answers for everything is in the textbook. The videos she has us watch are also very entertaining. She gives out one essay that is 5 pages and a project but they are not hard at all. Would highly recommend her and am taking her class again.
Definitely recommend. She gives out simple and easy assignments (most of the time you had to write a response to a question in regard to the textbook), and the class I took they were not very often either.
Weekly tests, but they're fairly easy. Also, the discussions require a min of 250 words, and some were hard to get the word min, it's relatively easy enough.
Professor Brautbar is amazing. She talked about a lot of subjects that she was passionate about. She got me excited about history, and kept me going in my studies. I appreciate professors like her. It was an amazing class.
This class which should have been about the Holocaust was used as a platform for Professor Brautbar to share her personal opinions on the Israel-Hamas conflict. While it was seldom relevant to the actual topic at hand, she would often spend entire lectures showing us YouTube videos about the topic. I feel like I barely learned about the Holocaust.
If you like learning about legal history you will like this class. You do have to read a bit and participate in discussions. Some of the assignments are written but no tests. She gets back to emails quickly and is helpful if you have issues.
Prof Brautbar was my easiest professor this semester. She is pretty clear, cut and to the point. Make sure you read the materials and be straight with her. Also she is a bit of a grammar nazi so make sure you have your stuff checked prior to submission. Regardless she is a good professor, and I would feel comfortable taking another class of hers.
I took this class last year and it was a really good experience. She covers lots of aspects of the Holocaust and makes it interesting. As a member of the LGBTQ community, I appreciate that we learned about the Holocaust against members of my community. She is also pretty chill about late assignments.
By far the best class and professor I have had. I am actively seeking more of her classes. She's very intelligent and it shows in her lectures. The class itself was an open discussion environment. She encourages real learning. I could go on and on about how fantastic Shirli Brautbar is. I would take her classes again and again.
I felt overwhelmed at first, but to warn you: she is a hard grader when it comes to grammar, and the book she provides is hard to read. She will help you get through the class.
