nice smart guy but horrible teacher, can't understand him so if your bad at math dont take him

VERY DIFFICULT CLASS! I felt that this was stuff that I had never seen before & would never use again! He is a nice guy, and definately a little indian man who loves chalk, and VERY knowledgeable, but he isn't so great at teaching all of that knowledge

Unclear as all hell due to his thick accent and gets mad at you for not understanding. But he was very helpful if he liked you. At the end of the year, he curved the hell out of my final grade so I could just pass. So for that I am grateful. dont take him

If you're not a math major and don't have a deep understanding of math, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He quized us on material we didn't learn and never informed us about the material beforehand. Drop his class before it drops your GPA...

I know that he is *incredible* at math - but for goodness sakes, teach better, Mr. Gupta. It's very hard to understand with his accent, and he just gets agitated when you ask questions. I do have to say, though, it was amusing at times in his class - but overall, no thank you.

Knows what he's talking about but the students have no idea. Hes very hard to understand and says the same corny jokes all semester. Also, he gives quizzes all the time on stuff hes never taught. Not a fun class at all. And oh yeah, no food,water, or even gum!

this man his no idea as to why he is teaching or where he even is. likes to laugh at his own jokes and sometimes could be mistaken for someone who just smoked a bowl 5 minutes before class. do not EVER takle this man unless you are willing to hear him slurp his spit, ask "you follow me?" or take attendance like it is his last duty on this earth.

At first, I liked Gupta because he was enthusiastic about math. That was before I learned that he'll do anything but to teach, from taking 10 minutes for attendance to interrupting for yelling at people for chewing gum (many times noone is). Come to his office hours, and you're asking easy problems. I think he's just here to do research.

I used my TI-89 calculator and the cliff notes for Calculus to do well in this class. If you don't know mat107 he'll show u but complain u should already know it. 3 tests. Quizzes are announced and if you negotiate you can probably talk him out of counting many of them. I used the book only the first week, I should have never bought it.

He is a funny guy and got a kick out of him, and he is very intelligent when it comes to math. I took the class for the second time because i just wanted a higher grade, and ended up getting a lower grade... not a very good teacher, hard to understand, goes fast, and kinda odd. I do not in anyway recommend him. makes it harder then it has to be.

doesn't teach what is in the book. No syllabus is given for what is going to be taught in class and for exams. He is very unclear. I wish I would have dropped this course when I had the chance. He is smart, however not a great or even a good professor.

There's no doubt that he loves math, but he has serious problems teaching it to the students. I didn't understand most of what he was saying and when he would try to clarify, I would just get more confused. Don't take this class if you can help it!

Shiv is a Hilarious and a very nice man. He really will keep you laughing during class. With that being said he is a terrible professor which is said cause he trully loves teaching. However you can't understand him, you can't see what he writes on the board because he stands in front of what he writes. DO NOT TAKE CLASS WITH SHIV!

Shiv is a genuinely nice professor. He will make you laugh sometimes just because of the sheer insanity of the things he says and the fact you cant understand him half the time. I defintely recommend sitting in the front so you have a better chance of understanding what he's talking about. Also..DON'T CHEW GUM!!! He will be very upset with you.

DONT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. DONT ASK TOO MANY QUESTIONS. DONT CHEW GUM OR DRINK WATER. HE IS HARD TO UNDERSTAND. HIS STORIES HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH MATH. IF YOU DONT UNDERSTAND A PROBLEM, HE MAKES YOU FEEL DUMB IN FRONT OF THE CLASS. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HIM. SORRY

Was difficult to understand. Didnt really teach, kind of just wrote the questiona nd answer and never said how to do it until we told him we didnt understand. Has a huge problem with chewing gum. Can be funny at times but usually doesnt want to be. Wouldnt recommend the class

He's tough. If you aren't good at math, then you need to take advantage of his office hours. He definitley isn't the best at teaching, but he is a good guy and will help you out if you visit his office.

First and foremost, DO NOT BUY THE BOOK! You will not use it! Don't chew gum and don't drink even a sip of water. He's old-fashioned and a rule follower. I think he wants his students to succeed, but the class is just strange. Constantly quotes Dylan and says "the answer is blowing in the wind." Quizzes material that has not yet been taught one.

He is difficult to understand. He is very cryptic. In the first couple of weeks, you may think "wait..did we start material or is he talking about random crap". Try to get a seat in the front, as well as an interpreter. Get a tutor or use google for all of the class content. He treats you like children yet he expects you to be geniuses. Good Luck.

Very hard to understand. Can be funny. Try to keep up with him, because once you get lost it's hard to come back. Will come off a little harsh/rude, but I'm pretty sure it's sarcastic. Consider taking someone else if accents are a factor. Very thick accent.

I hate be be a harsh person but he was one of the worst teachers I ever had. I had to withdraw from his class. I couldn't understand his way of teaching. I highly advise you if you don't have to take his class DO NOT

Dr. Gupta isn't the best professor in the world. He gets on your case when you're taking notes on how to do the problems, and then he gets mad when you can't solve said problems instantly. He also hates calculators, but allows them on exams. Finally, he has a tendency to call out and embarrass students. His class is pretty easy, though.

Lots of quizzes, hard to understand, and grade heavily depends on quizzes and tests rather than other assignments and homework. When the class fails a test or quiz, he is usually understanding and won't count it, but otherwise this class was one of the most stressful and unenjoyable classes I have taken.

Very hard to understand. Goes fast. We had a quiz pretty much every week. I got 9/10 and 10/10 on almost every one of them, got an A on one test and a B on another, then did okay on the final and some how got a C overall. When I emailed him - no reply. When we took the final he wasn't even there, and the women who was there was no help.

Currently taking him and is probably one of the worsts professors I ever had. He will not review any material, he expects you to remember all your algebra. His examples are taken out of the book and he prints them out. So you don't always get an explanation on the steps. He expects you to learn everything just by giving you sheets from the book.

Professor Gupta was a super nice man with an intense passion (or obsession) for mathematics. He was funny, sweet, and meant well. However, he was not a great teacher. His teaching methods and lectures were very hard to follow. I had to teach a lot of the material to myself after class. It was an easy math, so I still got an A, but he didn't help.

He constantly repeats, "Do you follow me?" And no, 99% of the time, the class does not. I, personally, would not recommend him if you do not have a strong, correction: really strong, background in not just precalc and everything before it, but AP Calculus AB/BC or both too. His teaching is so disorganized, and the whole class helps each other out.

I can tell that Gupta has a big heart and really cares about what he's teaching but man I think the language barrier makes it hard for him to teach. While he would make jokes, give out cookies, and have fun with the class he would be teaching at 1,000mph and you can barely follow him. Learn the topics yourself and you will be set for an A.

The professor is honestly super nice. However I don't like his teaching as much. he means well, but he is very unorganized and hard to understand. Grades were never posted to D2l and he never announced the second test. If you end up taking him do not miss class you'll regret it. there is also no textbook so be prepared to teach yourself everything.

I currently have Shiv for MAT 103. If you're any good at math at all this class will be so easy for you. 3 exams and you have the whole semester to complete 20 homework assignments. He says on the first day if you show up you'll get an A. He rambles the whole lecture and everyone in my class is on their phones the whole time.

don't take this class. he's kind and sweet, calls himself "everyone's grandfather", says he will give you a good grade if you show up to class. hard to learn if you aren't good at math! keep this in mind! all homework due at end of semester. take lots of notes. exams are short and quick. good person, just not a good math teacher

YOU FOLLOW ME?! Be prepared as he will say that every 30 seconds. I took number theory with him, lots of homework that had to be submitted in INK each time. And never posts grades on D2l, hence you won't know what your grade is.

Dr. Gupta is sweet but he is not an ideal professor. Oftentimes the difficulty of the material is exacerbated by his lessons being jumbled and difficult to understand. He does not respond well to questions and he does not update grades. It can also be difficult at times to understand what he's trying to say/articulate due to the language barrier.

If you take math with Gupta, prepare to teach yourself. Refers to students as "grandkids" but berates students for asking simple questions and for missing classes, even though he barely teaches. The 3 exams you take are each worth 30% of your grade and he scarcely prepares you for them. Would not recommend for anyone who struggles at all with math.

Dr. Gupta seems very caring and that he genuinely wants the students to learn, but he's impossible to understand. There is a language barrier already, but he doesn't actually teach. The first half he played a lecture video of another professor that went way too fast and once he started teaching he gives a paper and shows examples on the board.
