She has a strong accent but just pay attention and listen to her lectures. She has slides so just work the class problems as she goes thru them and the exams cover the same type of questions. Recitation is helpful.
You end up having to learn it yourself from the book because you can't understand her.
Strong accent and hard to understand. I usually read the chapter while she was teaching and taught myself. Tests not too bad if you work practice problems.
i'm not sure if this was a finance class or if I was just in hell, she may know what shes talking about but can not convey it to others, i have no idea what happened..do the problems in the book and so help you god

Difficult to understand, and NO ONE listened in class. It was unreal how loud the lecture hall gets.....fun class as long as you have a lot of friends to talk to, b/c your sure as hell not listening to what she says!
A Breeze - better than the others
hard to understand, but slides are easy. Overall shes is easy if you follow along.
Overall, one of the easiest business courses at ISU, with averages in the 80's on most tests. It's difficult to understand her in lecture, but the book can be helpful for clearing up any confusing things.
The first exam is very similar to the study guide she hands out. So if you don't review it before the exam, it's your own fault. The final exam is much harder so you need to know your sh&t. If you do well in the first exam and the presentation, you can afford to slip a little on the final exam.
Real easy. Her tests are directly from the slides. If you dont do well in this class, it is only because you didnt know what to read. Stick to her notes and you'll get an A.
Ask her for help on any questions and she'll give you the answers
she was so easy! tests were cake if you read the powerpoints. easy A
Shoobs is awesome - I always enjoyed going to her class, I got a B+, mainly because I skipped only 2 classes the whoe semester to go snowboarding and both times we had a pop quiz... Would have easily gotten an A. You can to - go to class and do examplee, skim book, look at notes and powerpoints.
Halarious! Should be a writer for David Letterman. I am a B student, and got an A. She's fun.
I'm horrible with finance and accounting, but I actually did well in this class. She is very clear when she explains things and very funny. I recommend her!
easy, go to class, pay attention, and it should be an A
I don't know why I'm getting a C in this class, because she really tries to make it easy. Bleh.
Good class, not too terrible difficult, but clarity and boring lectures can become an issue. This professor though is still very good and I recommend here very much
Its a freaking joke one of the easiest classes ever if you do the practice test exactly the same
Go to lecture and skim the textbook. She gives random pop quizzes that don't seem to have any pattern associated with them.
If you go to class, listen, go to SI or even read the book and do the practice problems there is no reason not to get an A. There is good curve and pop quizes are 1/4 of your grade. EASY CLASS
Her accent is hard to understand sometimes, but overall an easy class. Go to class because she has pop quizzes which are easy points. Tests are also easy. I never used my book and aced almost every test.
Boring class but it's way easy if you study for the tests and go to class (for the pop quizzes... there are 4; mine were between weeks 7 and 13 I believe)
I would say she is one of the easiest going and easiest teachers ever... You would definitely enjoy her class!!! She also teaches 301/310/330!!! Easy B to A teacher...
Go to class for the random pop quizzes! No homework. Tests aren't too bad if you go through and understand the book problems and examples in class. Unfortunately, her husband passed away near the end of the semester. Last 2 weeks of class were cancelled. The final was then made optional and replaced your lowest exam score, so many did not take it.
Easy class. She is a good teacher and cares about her students. She tries so hard to be funny; just go with it. Her husband passed away this year; everyone gives their condolences.
Has an accent that is tough to understand at times but asl ong as you go to the class before the test when she reviews you should be fine, grading is very lenient.
Take classes from her if you can. She is helpful, fun to listen to, not harsh but teaches the topics really good.
Super easy i got over 100%. just got to the last day before the test and to the SI review session and you'll get an A. She always makes jokes that aren't funny but she laughs at herself so it makes you laugh. really cool teacher i'd take her again
Cracks too many PJs. Sometimes treats students like kindergarten kids.
Even though some days she seems like she hates all of us, (which i know is just a cultural difference between us students and her own socialization skills), she isn't that bad of a teacher, and her class is a breeze. Just let her get P.O.'d if no one else shopped at JC Penny's last weekend except her and you should be fine.
GO to class and sleep so you dont miss the extra quizes. Make sure you go to exam review and understand all the problem. Exam problems are exactly the same as exam review cept different context. Then score your easiest A in life in the end of the semester.
Get her for FIN 301 if you can. She teaches you what she wants you to know, then tests you over it. Go to SI, if you need to, it's a good replacement for class if you have to miss. Had to work, made about half the classes, got an A-.
She is a nice professor, but is not great at teaching this class. She is kind of hard to understand, and she just reads straight from the slides. She doesn't seem to have a great knowledge of the US financial industry. There is one group presentation on a financial company and a few tests. Overall, she is not bad professor, but I've had better.
Lecture prepares you for the test! Awesome
Teaching good, but class is boring. A lot of "AWESOME!!!" can be heard in every class...
Very easy class. Just go to every one and make sure you don't miss teamwork. Tests are vocab and concepts word for word out of the power point slides.
Great teacher. Lectures well and class prepares you for exams. Learned a lot in this class. Best Finance teacher I've had
Best finance professor I've had. Took 301 and 330 with her.
Fun teacher. She tries to make class entertaining which can be a breath of fresh air in the mornings. There is a big group project she assigns on the first day of class so make sure you are seated around people that look responsible. You will do 2 projects with the same people. Tests are very basic.
Tries to be funny and engage students. Class is easy, don't need the book at all, everything comes from her notes.
She will explain each concept, then show how it works in a real world scenario. For me, this method of teaching is helpful.
Great person. Ask a questions and she will answer it for you and give you the answer half the time. Funny lady and if you show an interest in the material, she will grade easily. Provides review and formula sheets if you ask her.
Pretty easy class as long as you go to class. Formed groups in the first week of class so make sure to get in a good group as you will do a majority of non-test points with that group. Tests are pretty straight forward. 22 questions taken out of 20 total for the tests. Does have some dry sense of humor, just play along and you'll be fine.
SUPER EASY.
HON321 seminar - great guest speakers, highly recommend. Professor Shoba is also clear about what the expectations are. She has a subtle sense of humor but when you recognize it, it's hilarious. Even if you're not a business major, give her honors seminar a try!
Each group has to do one presentation on a case study and the class has to take a quiz. They are pretty easy if you pay attention in class. Tests aren't too hard and she does give some extra credit. She tries to make the class fun and likes to joke around with the class. Would take it again.
By far the easiest class I have taken in the College of Business. Shoba has fill in the blank powerpoints, so you need to go to class. She tries to be funny and tells jokes. There is no graded homework, and she gives practices problems that you complete in class, so you don't have to teach yourself the computational portions. Take her class!!
Enjoyed Prof Shoba' s class. Included real world applications and learned a lot
She's super sweet and tells funny jokes :)
Gives a lot of extra credit. Has quizzes often, they are really easy if you pay attention.
One of my favorite teachers at Iowa State. She truly cares how her students perform in the class and curves exams if necessary. You must show up to all lectures to take in class quizzes and extra credit, don't worry, if you pay attention it's pretty easy. I highly recommend taking a class with her
She is a really nice professor and really wants you to succeed. The problem is the class is basically a repeat of 310 and 320 so a she tries to make it different. In doing that the tests have quite a few questions that aren't helpful such as who a CEO is of one of the companies we present on. Overall it isn't to hard but not entirely helpful.
Shoba is one of the best professors in Finance at Iowa State. Her lectures are hilarious and she seems to really care about her students. She gives fill in the blank notes. Tests consists of multiple choice questions about problems and concepts. Quizzes are simple if you complete the spreadsheet. Go to class and you will do fine.
Great prof! She likes to make her students laugh which is great for a finance class. She puts jokes in her PowerPoints. Who you sit by on the first day is basically who you will be working with for the rest of the semester so be careful where you sit! Two big group projects and weekly surprise group work and some group extra credit so be there!
Don't buy the book. This class is super easy, and Shoba will give you everything you need to know during lecture! Easy A if you work for it! There is a decent amount of group work (in class and 2 projects), so pick a good group!
Good professor of a class that is pretty easy. She is funny and will always help you if needed. There is in-class group works and group projects. Exams are not very difficult. Gives out enough extra credit to really help your grade. Would recommend.
Easy finance teacher, don't really learn much though.
Shoba is very nice and funny. This was an honors entrepreneurship seminar. She understood that a seminar should be easy and not too demanding, and she met the expectation with this. I enjoyed this class and would recommend any of her other classes.
Pick a smart group because there's a presentation and a report. A little bit of easy math on bonds/options, but mostly memorizing concepts. Lots of EC and in class points so go to class. Notes are fill in the blank. 3 exams including final, non cumulative, and worth 20% each. Straight forward teaching style while cracking some jokes here and there
Shoba was an excellent professor, although I will warn you right now... you will not pass this class without a calculator. You need a BAII Plus. Usually class consisted of power points and practice problems. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good learning experience.
Shoba is usually a pretty easy A, but this course is a little more difficult since the tests make up 60% of your grade.
Test are worth 60% of the class grade. Also, go to class because there are a lot of team works - extra credit available if you go. Very nice and a good professor.
Great teacher and very helpful if you go in on her office hours.
Very difficult to contact and schedule outside of class. Has high expectations that everyone get 90%+ on tests.
Shoba is a sweet professor. Lectures seem very confusing at first, but she gives practice test questions that are the same as the test. Group work is easy and you get extra credit for it. I would take more classes with her for sure!
Shoba is a great professor. She's funny and her lectures are interesting. Shoba cares about her students and she makes the material fun to learn. You have to go to lecture to get team work points. Tests aren't easy but not crazy difficult, and there are some bonus points as well. Highly recommend Shoba
Watch her lectures. Practice the given problems in Quizzes, Extra Credits, Team Work, and meetings. The problems are short and are very similar. (Just changed the numbers or name which makes it very good practice). If you do these, then you will be guaranteed an A.
Boring lectures but she does use the time to go over example problems which are helpful
You will learn nothing in this class. She rushes through lectures, doesn't take time to explain what she's teaching, and overall not the best teacher. She does care about her students.
Shoba is a great professor for this class. In class she goes over her lecture slides which hold a lot of valuable information both conceptually and mathematically. As long as you pay attention, attend class to do the very basic teamwork questions, and understand how to do all the practice exam questions you will get a good grade in the class.
This class was an easy A. Take it if you are interested in crypto and want an easy class. Theres a homework every week but its easy and there is teamwork at the end of class like once a weekish.
A majority of in class assignments are done with a group, as well as a major group project you need to prep for. The class is fairly easy and she is a wonderful professor that likes to crack jokes in class. Explains concepts very well and there are no surprises on the exams. 10/10
She always cared about us and made sure we knew what would be on the exams. Very understanding and respectful.
Very difficult to understand. Is NOT clear about assignments whatsoever.
Requires too many things
While classes are not required, I heavily recommend going due to assignments due at the end of class. She is very helpful with questions during class. There is a group project which is not too difficult.
Shoba was the funniest professor I have ever had. She is a pretty easy grader, and the class consists of a group presentation, case quizzes, in class TW assignments, and a few exams. She loves when people participate in class, but if she calls on you and you don't know the answer, she'll explain the concept more. Such a fun class, she is a gem!
Exams were 80% HW 20%, and 2% EC. Exams, HW, and lectures were very dissimilar. Shoba did not respond to emails well and was difficult to understand. Questions were very poorly written, w/ multiple errors. The syllabus barely made sense, and the Canvas page was similarly very poorly structured. Not a terrible class, but take it at your own risk.
Pop Quizzes/In-class assignments. Averages on the exams were 60-70%, which is extremely low, would blame low scores on people not going to class.Called out a student for getting a 24% and then caring about missing in class assignments. Constantly telling people to drop the course if they are struggling in it when its req for all business majors
I had to leave mid-semester for a medical issue, and this professor was very accommodating. Do your homework and you will get a fine grade.
Shoba is extremely funny. Besides that, she is incredibly accommodating with due dates for pop quizzes and classwork. Additionally, she is more than willing to help with anything. Exams were alright, and homework was good practice. Passing is not too difficult as long as one shows up to class.
Legit the goat
the tests in the class were very hard and class averages were very low. I never learned well from class and had to spend a very long time studying. As a result my grade was very low for majority of semester however shoba than put in extra credit and curves the class weighted scale. She is an ok teacher but prepare to do a lot on your own.
Good Summer Class. It was a 4-week class so very compressed and 75% of grades come from exams. But manageable and you get good exposure to a variety of topics.
We love Shoba
The class was easy but the professor was horrible, she forgot to post the conceptual practice exam and the study sheet for the first exam and she blamed it un us for not telling her even though we never knew it existed. She had a yelling match with a student one day, it was funny. Exams were easy though and little homework.
Exams taken in class, without lockdown browser. She is so funny and caring!! Just make sure to attend class, because she does quizzes, teamworks and extra credit in class.
Shoba was a great professor, and during pop quizzes, she would help work through problems. Exams were very easy, and the class was fun for a finance class.
