This class was really hard for me. Lectures are very long and full of information, and I always felt one step behind in everything. Quizes every lab day from the previous lecture- were always hard and showed me how behind I really was- I thought i did well on some but didn't. Tests are hard I would get a D even with studying! Final was so hard!
This was the toughest class I've ever taken. She would cram a lot of information into a 50 minute class and would move onto the next slide even though we were not done writing it down. The tests are tough and she doesn't give you half credit even if you got it half right. We would ask her for help on the pre-labs and she would say we should know it
Attend class, do the work and follow directions and you will get an A. This is not a class to procrastinate.
This class was the hardest class I have ever experienced. She goes so fast during lectures. I counldn't write as fast as she went. She is a tough grader and doesn't give much partial credit. Overall this class was hard, stressful, and I would not recommend to take her if you are completely new to the subject of chemistry.
Chem 150 with this professor was so confusing and hard. If you work and have other classes it'll be hard to get a good grade. She goes way too fast in her slides and its just too fast paced to obtain and remember all the information thrown at you. She doesn't allow notecards on the test or the final which makes everything based off solely on memory
After spending 16 WASTED weeks of my life, I can tell you that I learned NOTHING! Even with outside help this class is impossible and it's an entry level chem class. This professor only cares about getting through the slides, and doesn't care if you understand the material. She is not helpful and gets frustrated easily. Do not take her.
Rahbarnia's an extremely tough grader and doesn't give partial credit. Honestly, I didn't attend every lecture. But it was because the lectures I did attend felt like a frustrating waste of time. Her only focus is to get through her slides which are not helpful. I had to read the textbook. And don't try asking her questions because it won't help.
VERY fast paced. Teaches Intro like a 150 class. Passed because I went to tutoring every day for 2 extra hours min and utilized EVERY opportunity. Content is dense, teacher does not give room for mistake. The most stressful course I've ever taken. Results may leave you discouraged and unmotivated. Exams are heavily weighted and difficult.
I have NEVER taken a course this hard. She goes through the slides too quickly. She posts slides that are half filled in so you have to fill in the rest as she's lecturing which is touch when she goes too quickly. This class made me feel so dumb. Save yourself the stress and take someone else.
Take anyone but her. She goes through the slides too quickly for anyone to comprehend what she is talking about and she even does the math too quickly. Sh teaches this like it's a 150 class. Never again, you've been warned.
Shohreh is extremely unnaproachable and acts like you are bothering her when you ask for help or clarification. I don't have a problem with the level of difficulty - It is college! But when so many people say that they are afraid to ask the teacher a question because she likes to make you feel stupid, then that is not ok.
Hardest class I have ever taken. She goes way to fast, gives no partial credit, and teaches as if you have taken chemistry before. Take someone else and save yourself the stress!!!
Don't miss classes and you will do good. She goes fast but she cares about her students she wants her students to learn you have to work a lot by yourself to understand I like to be challenged and I don't mind taking her class again. If you are lazy don't choose this teacher
The issue i have is that she cares more about getting through her slide show than if you understand her. She is an orator, not a TEACHER. She teaches at her own level of understanding, not caring much if YOU cant follow or remember material. The only people who will succeed are those who are taking one class more, or school is life .
Great teacher. She repeats & pauses during lecture when you ask her & is always willing to answer questions. She gives you a second chance to get points on all exercises(which is cool). She also encourages students to email her about questions, see her during office hrs, & check out the tutoring center. Dont skip class, and youll be fine
She is amazing, & she is passionate about chemistry. She goes a little fast in lecture because there is so much content to cover(you will be prepared for the next level). She is available, so much so, it is ridiculous. She even answers email quickly (evenings and weekends). Read the text (best before lecture)& tests are on material covered.
I'll be honest I was terrified after reading her reviews, but I really have enjoyed the class. She does go quickly, but if you pay attention ask questions, DO ALL THE EXTRA CREDIT (WHY NOT IT'S FREE POINTS), Do your homework, show up to the labs. You may find it difficult to fail! This lady is passionate and she is funny. I really enjoyed her class
She is an excellent teacher if you aren't looking for an easy A. Chemistry is a difficult subject for many students, but she explains the material very clearly and answers questions in detail. She also provides homework and pre-lab help over email, which was great for me since I get nervous asking questions in front of the class. Great professor!
Dr rahbarnia could be an amazing professor if she would slow down a little. she's always rushing through her slides & often jumbles up her words. She would also be amazing if she would actually help her students when asked as opposed to yelling at them and making them feel stupid. I was scared to ask questions and I believe that is why I failed!
Literally the worst professor I have ever had. She is is completely unapproachable and rude. She speaks down to students who ask questions. I attended every single lab and lecture, went to the tutoring center, had study groups, and even tried talking to her. Her response was, "Your whole class is failing, I don't know what to tell any of you."
Here's the thing: if you're good at science and only have to be shown once how to solve a problem then you should take her but if you're like me and need explanation and examples then DO NOT take her. She rushes through power points and makes you feel inadequate if you don't understand. Take Spencer, that's what I'm doing.
If you accidentally skip a step in a lab experiment, you WILL get yelled at. There's only a finite amount of time to do the labs, so of course we're in a hurry and might make mistakes. Nobody deserves to be humiliated for messing up the first time. She yells at you even if you're not arguing with her. It can be pretty demoralizing.
I had to drop this class because there was no way I was going to pass. I studied, went to tutoring and did the homework but the tests are like a 150 class not intro. She teaches like you already know chemistry. Her notes are not helpful either because she goes too fast.
All she cares about is going over her slides. She does not care about making sure everyone in the class understands the lecture. I did everything that I could to pass this class and it was nearly impossible. I have never failed a class in my life and I am very sad to say that this is my first. She gets really irritated with us a lot with questions
If you failed this class,, you did NOT do what you needed to do. there is so much extra credit, Nobody cares about how hard your life is outside of your qualifications to move to the next level. If you need to know chemistry, you probably better take Rahbarnia, if you are looking for a participation trophy, you better take a different instructor.
Tell her to slow down if she begins to rush through her slides She doesn't always understand that the material is difficult and needs to be approached slowly
I don't recommend her. She teacher really fast and her reviews are good but when it comes ton exams the questions are worded so differently its like you didn't study for anything on the exams. She is super specific on grading really picky. If you like a quick teacher, I recommend her but if you want a slower paced class don't recommend.
I think she is a good teacher. She is pretty fast paced but to understand the material you have to study on your own. The test are difficult but fair and if you take advantage of the extra credit and complete all other work, you'll pass the class. If you are a student that applies yourself and actually comes to class she's happy to answer questions
Great instructor telling you what you need to know. Do NOT miss her lectures, otherwise you will be very lost. She can be tough, and is checks for all mistakes and grades hard, but prepares you very well, and helps you understand very well. Her exams are tough, but she gives a question bank (similar questions) which can be on the exams.
Great professor. You have to actually learn the material, theres no sliding by with her. Must go to lecture or you'll fail. Show up, pay attention, ask questions. It's your choice if you want to learn and pass. She is fast paced but passionate about chem. She only gets annoyed if she knows your a student who doesnt show up or participate or try.
Worst professor i've ever had. She has no patience to teacher really feels like she doesn't want you todo well. She HATES repeating herself and does not like to be interrupted during lecture for questions. Save your GPA and DO NOT TAKE HER!!
I loved her class. She was really clear during lecture and provides us slides on each chapter she is lecturing on She is willing to help during her office hours. Syllabus was clear. She is very professional. I am glad I didn't read the reviews here before taking her. She was a great teacher and gives extra credit everyone has a chance to pass.
Difficult teacher. Is great for those who have taken chem before and have a little bit of knowledge. She has no patience and gets irritated when you ask "stupid" questions. Also I have seen her turn away students and tell them to go figure out the problem when they asked for some assistance on the lab work. I don't recommend her.
This is a hard class-a five unit class-and therefore requires time; do the homework and study for tests and quizzes. Dr. Rahbarnia lets you know what you need to do to pass, she makes herself available to those who reach out and she cares about her students. Tests are hard, read the chapters and study more than the study guides!
She means well, but she is unaware of how heavy the material gets and therefore, goes at a faster pace. Her tests were about 75% of what she covered in her study guides, and the final takes all of the three hours and then some. If you decide to take her, be very prepared.
Chemistry in general is a tough course and if time and effort is not put into it you will not succeed, tutoring helps. Dr. Rahbarnia makes herself available through email, which she answers quite quickly, as well as office apts. There's a lot of extra credit on homework, exams and final. Only way to fail course is by not studying. Ask questions!!!!
She has a PowerPoint for each chapter you go through and they are usually around 80 slides each. She goes through these VERY VERY fast and its impossible to get everything. Tests are very difficult and she is a stern grader. She is crazy about dog figs and makes you memorize a huge list of molecules. I would definitely recommend looking elsewhere.
Dr. Rahbarnia is a boss. Many of these reviews are untrue, probably written by students who did not put in the time and effort necessary to truly understand chemistry after being given the necessary resources; the problem they have with Dr. Rahbarnia is that the grade you earn is very much based on thorough understanding, which you can get via work
I learned a lot in her class. You need to study hard in her class. Her tests are straightforward no tricky questions. You have to attend all the lectures to understand the material. She is a tough grader. If you are lazy and don't like to study hard then don't take her class.
Just manage your time properly and do the homework and you'll have a good time. Just study the slides and you should be good for the tests. She gives so much extra credit that your only excuse will be that you were just too lazy to utilize the freebies. If you're self-motivated you'll succeed, if not then maybe it's just not the right timing.
To pass this class you need to put at least some effort to learn the material and you need to know how to manage your time. The professor was wonderfull, she offered so much extra credit and you could always email her about the homework. She even went over exactly what would be on the test sometimes. So glad I took her.
All I can say is this professor loves chemistry but I can't say the same for teaching. She seems the best when going through her many slides, but when it comes to asking her a question or assistance, she makes you feel stupid for even asking her in the first place. She's unapproachable and will definitely yell at you in front of the class.
Professor doesnt answer questions but instead makes you feel stupid. She goes through lectures and notes WAY to fast. Gives one example and expects you to know it right off the back. Expects students to memorize to much information and calculations. Overall her class is NOT worth the time, money, or stress. I do NOT recommend.
She knows her stuff, but teaches as if you were a chemistry PROFESSOR, not a student. She goes through the slides too quick& assumes everyone understands. Doesn't like questions being asked & likes to tell at students. Made a girl cry in the lab for a simple mistake. I tried hard & studied hard. Never missed class. Took good notes & still dropped.
She loves chemistry and is funny. But when it comes to teaching she isn't very gifted in that area. I feel as if the class is lost most of the time. She goes through everything very quick and expects you to understand right away. She is a very tough grader and cares a lot about sig figs.
I don't recommend this professor at all. She goes through lectures insanely fast, barely giving students the time to write. Her exams were challenging & she's a tough grader. I only saw my grade three times throughout the semester. She's a nice person, just not a nice professor. I took Chem 101 the next semester with another professor & got an A.
This subject is really hard, and she does the best that she can with the time shes given. But, you have to put in the effort to learn the material at home as well. Chemistry is not a class where you can depend solely on the lectures. You have to try to learn it for yourself as well. Shes a bit sarcastic, but shes a great professor.
The only reason I put down to not take another course with Rahbarnia is that the test are weighed to high. It is possible to pass this course, but it takes a lot of studying. She is really tough I have seen her yell at people and make them cry. Yet it is not her job to be a friend, so if you have to take a course with her just study really hard.
Dr. Rahbarnia is a good professor. She does move fast in lectures but she is very understanding if you need her to go back and explain it more in depth. She also cares about her students, which a big thing that you don't see often. She wants us to succeed in this class and she does everything she can to help: Extra credit, test corrections, feedback
Rahbarnia is a good chemistry teacher, do your work, try and show up for class. You will do fine. Chemistry is hard, but she is helpful and informative if you arent rude and whiny. Accept that its hard, try your best. Tests are straightforward, and homework is online and time consuming. You will learn a lot of nomenclature. I earned an A.
I would not recommend this professor. I had an A in homework and labs and rarely skipped class but she tests very hard and grades everyone differently. Even when I would stay and ask for help, she made it seem like an inconvenience. I took a chem class with another professor the next semester and passed with an A.
She seemed promising to begin with, but her expectations seem to be too high when she does not even cover material well. She's so confusing since she moves so fast, I've learned way more being in the tutoring center for 30 mins, than what she teaches in her hour lecture. Don't take this course unless you already have decent knowledge of chemistry.
Really great professor. She is a bit sarcastic, but that's just her personality. She is a really good professor though and explains things well.
This professor's at the very least extremely knowledgeable. However, she is equally abrasive and unwilling to compromise on her teaching methods. BE PREPARED TO TEACH YOURSELF. By far the worst professor I've had thus far. I'm a chemistry major so I haven't dropped but I am getting nothing from this class or professor. Stay away if at all possible
If I could go back and do it all again I would of steered clear of this class despite my A. in fact this is the one class I wish I had not been a part of despite receiving lower marks in other courses.
Inflexible, tough grader, poor lecturer, abrasive, hostile. If these are traits look for in a professor I highly recommend professor Rahbarnia. If not, stay away if at all possible.
Chemistry is going to be hard. However, Rabharnia laid out all of the information that we needed to be able to pass and warned us ahead of time when and what was due. Also, she gave lots of opportunities for extra credit. I definitely would advise the test corrections. She does talk pretty fast but also posts partials of the PPs online .
Dr. Rahbarnia knows her material and will teach you everything you need to know. All her tests are based on lectures and will give a lot of practice. To study, she encourages to meet up with tutors. You need to be willing to learn and catch up with her because she has a lot to teach. If I can take her again, I will
I can't grade her for an in class teacher, but with things being switched to online, she is not the best teacher to learn from. Her testing and quizzes specifically are extremely stressful as she has mid test/quiz upload questions, so myself and many kids in the class feel stress to make sure we have enough time to even finish the test.
Felt lost during every lecture call and lab. Lectures are hard to stay awake for. For an intro class, it was unnecessarily hard where it seemed as your own grade was against you. Your grade on canvas will NOT reflect what you have in the class as she grades differently. One quiz every week and 4 extremely hard exams. Homework is extremely long.
Super difficult class for anyone coming in with no chem knowledge. Cares too much about sigfigs and at times unprofessional. Belittles students for asking questions and will blame you for things you dont have control of. Quizzes and exams have upload questions which are very annoying as you have very little time. Lecturers DONT reflect exams.
Doesn't seem to understanding that her students haven't mastered chemistry like she has. Gets irritated when students don't understand the topics right away and moves extremely fast in lecture. Very tough grader and gives a lot of homework. Good at chemistry but not good at teaching it. Would not recommend at all, even if she was the last option.
Do yourself a favor and wait til' you get a better professor, because she implements Draconian rules. Doesn't have a problem humiliating students for not knowing something. No sense of humor at all. The kind of jokes where you just smile to be nice or cringe. Face MUST be present on camera at all times and have mic. Or she says to buy a new comp.
Ruthless and unforgiving. Has no problem making you look like a fool in front of everyone. God forbid you can't keep up in her class, or have technical difficulties due to no fault of your own. She gives no quarter and should you not do it her way, you get docked. Wish I never took her class and wasted the money on learning from her.
I dropped this class taught by Dr. Rahbarnia 3 weeks after joining. She tells students to not be afraid to ask questions, but whenever you ask a question, she will get upset and will mock you in front of the class. DSPS students aren't treated with any respect either. Lectures are VERY fast and you are better off just reading in the book instead.
Do not take this teacher. Please. For the sake of your own gpa and well-being, she will mentally break you down the whole semester and will not help you. This was the class I studied the hardest in and I never get bad grades, and sure enough I had to drop because I had a d in her class. Litteraly a rock can teach better than this lady. DO NOT DO IT
This has been my worst class and the worst professor I have ever had. She is very condescending and makes you feel bad for asking her for a better understanding of topics. She is rude and goes too fast during lectures. I was always uncomfortable asking for help and when I did, she always had a smart remark. Try to find another professor if you can!
I took Professor Rahbarnia Chem 101 class in the Spring 2021 term and it was the worst class I have ever taken. She is super rude and will make you feel stupid for asking questions. If you can please avoid taking her class because you will be teaching yourself.
The WORST professor I've ever taken. She waits till the last minute to put your grades in. She makes you feel stupid when you ask valid questions. And she doesn't want you to succeed. She admitted to one of the students that she made the 2nd exam extra hard so that she could "weed" out the students that were going to drop the class.
Professor Rahbarnia is an awful professor. She zooms through the material way too fast, and invalidates you when you ask her questions.I took a summer Chem 101 class with a different professor and I got an A. She once suggested that a student should drop due to the student needing a week off because her cousin died, and she was getting surgery.
She knows what she is doing but her exams are extremely hard! Even if you pay attention in class and do your assignments little things will bring down your grade ALOT. Taking this professor gave me depression of how stressful it was. I recommend to not take the class because you will fail
If you are pursuing a degree in Chem or Eng (I am a Chem Eng) I highly suggest taking this professor. If you work full time or part-time, are a college athlete I would say save her as your second choice. Labs twice a week, quizzes once a week (timed), homework every week. Make friends with O-Chem teach on youtube and Khan Academy.
I've never participated in "RATE MY PROFESSOR" but it had to be done. Looking for an education?(Premed) Her style of teaching will be in the way of that. Its her way or the highway. She is unforgiving, rude when asked questions, makes many mistakes and does not take responsibility, while if you make a mistake it's inexcusable and unacceptable.
Very impatient and will same students for having questions.
This lady is easily the WORST human i've ever had in my entire life. She called me stupid and I reported her to the Dean and the head of the science dept. Even with the whole class as witnesses, Nothing happened. She continued to harass me until I dropped after she yelled in my face for no reason. This lady is a Narcissist and horrible at teaching.
She is the worst professor I have ever had. She will make fun of you, and call you stupid in front of the whole class. Don't take her class. She told me I had to figure out my private life after my family member passed away and couldn't make up any work. This was already toward the end of the semester.
Awful, sorry excuse for a professor. She zooms through lectures, expects you to get a new concept after "explaining" it once and says,"We haven't gone over this but just read the instructions" when that is HER JOB. Shes rude, condescending, and will make you hate science. I had a private tutor and that STILL wasn't good enough. Avoid her class.
very clear in requirements, she is fair. Chemistry is a hard subject if you put in the effort she will try to help. attend office hours.
I took this class in 2022, with a high A and I am still mortified by the way this class was ran. Now that Im in chem151 I realize it didn't have to be that way. She was belittling and mean spirited to students. She caused me so much stress. I feel bad because I think she liked me, I was good student but I think she was way rougher than necessary.
Disgruntled divorcee taking it out on the student. Beware and avoid at all cost!
Had anxiety every day before class so scared to mess up. I messed up on the notebook for lab and she gave me nd my lab partner a whole lecture saying she should ask her to switch lab partners bc i didnt know what i was doing bro. Makes me fear bro so scared to mess up which is not the best learning environment. made me feel like i was stupid.
As a first year college student I was appalled with her treatment of her students when it comes to wanting students to be educated or learn to appreciate chemistry. She leads class by dictatorship not by a true teaching standard. It is infuriating to work hard for a class that dwindles down because of an uncomapssionate teacher.
Unkind and unstable.
The positive ratings have to be her, this teacher is horrible. She was extremely rude and very VERY unprofessional. I understand you don't have to personally like a teacher to pass the class but she made it unbearable to be there. It felt like you were trying to survive her while getting through the class.
Worst Professor EVER. I saw her make students cry in class. Someone told her that they couldn't come to class, so she made them answer all of her questions for the entire next lecture and told him how much of a bad student he was for not being able to answer some of them correctly. Mind you he was the best student in the class and had an A.
After taking her in CHEM101&CHEM102, I think she is fair in her requirements, though she can be a little scary! Try to take her classes in person if you can, because online was VERY stressful. Difficult class, but put in time and effort and don't be afraid to attend office hours. She was very clear about what would be on every quiz and every test.
made me depressed
Anyone writing a bad review...surely you're just a bad listener. This professor lays out the rules CLEAN AND CLEAR. are the rules intimidating? sure. is she strict on her rules? YES but she tells you EVERYTHING. Take notes, pay attention, PRACTICE and ask for help. Lots of extra credit opportunities especially on exams.
Horrible, the worst actually.
made me want to dropout
This professor has a habit of tearing students down instead of encouraging them. I expressed to her i was feeling overwhelmed with a topic and didn't know where to start to which she replied “well you're clearly not paying attention or reading the textbook” (I always applied myself during lecture and outside). worst class I have ever taken BY FAR.
I thought it was me at first, why she is so mad when I didn't do some assignment, and she would lash out at me, but I heard it happen to everyone, so glad it wasn't just me. Words of Advice: Don't take her class even if you are in a dire situation to get out of college. Better to wait another semester.
In ancient Korean folklore, the Chonyeo Gwisin is a vengeful spirit of an unmarried woman—cold, cursed, and full of resentment. That's Mrs. Rahbarnia. She doesn't teach, she haunts. 1 star on Rate My Professor—not for difficulty, but for the spiritual damage. Avoid if you value peace.
If you are serious about your science degree, then this class prepares you well for that. I think most people here complaining are used to high school classes. It's actually refreshing to have a professor take a topic seriously. Dr. Rahbarnia can be blunt, but I haven't seen her attack personal character.
This professor told me that I would never pass chemistry. Her classroom is an extremely hostile environment and it's impossible to learn when she degrades you every time you don't understand something. Even telling me once, “I don't get what's not making sense to you.” Anyways, DO NOT TAKE HER! Go to SBVC instead, I passed chemistry with an A.😊
She's clearly knowledgeable, but her attitude poisons the class. She rushes through material, snaps at questions, and gets visibly irritated by minor mistakes. The classroom feels tense and intimidating, making it hard to learn—especially if chemistry doesn't come easily.
This is the worst professor I have ever had this class and grading scale is a JOKE basically all you need to do is take the exams and do nothing else as nothing else matters. She doesn't grade well on the exam she doesn't teach well she doesnt know what she is doing. I have never seen this lack of knowledge in a PHD she needs to do better.
In my experience: If you do not understand o chem and have a good background it in already, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS with her. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, if I could go back I would've never taken this class. She is snappy, has no teaching skills for a very challenging subject, and does not care if you succeed. She is not helpful.
Her grading scale= a joke. WORST professor I have ever had. She will make you feel bad for having questions then be upset when people aren't participating. Let me be very clear, if you do not have a 65% or above average on tests she will fail you. No matter your overall grade in the course. Take this class anywhere else. Not with her.
AVOID! I am not exaggerating when I say this was the worst class I've ever experienced. Class problems worked out in class are consistently solved wrong, Have a question, don't bother asking. Harsh grader.
Check all your assignments, she makes grading mistakes on EVERYTHING. She won't be nice when you point it out but you need the points. Grades very hard but makes many mistakes.
