I came into the Auditing class not knowing what to expect. Prof. Schochet was just awesome! His lectures are crystal clear and to the point, and are very CPA exam foucsed. Very patient with student questions. His exams are tough, but very fair. Would highly recommend taking his course is you want a solid understanding of auditing!

When i registered for this class i had no idea who this Professor was, that is because he is new and i was on edge! Well people, he is AMAZING! The lectures are very clear, he knows his stuff! He is NOT one of those professors that read the book to you, he has the book in his head lol. My point is, taking him will prepare you to take the CPA!

I went into Auditing not knowing much about it, but after listening to Prof. Sholom's lectures I learned more about auditing. It also inspired me to try and pursue a career in Auditing in the future.

He's a no nonsense and straightforward prof who packs complex Auditing concepts into shortish, but super clear lectures. Wish there was more like him in BC! Anyway, best of luck.

He is one of the better professors in Brooklyn College, based off my opinion. Course isn't hard unless you are absent alot. He gives you more than enough opportunities to pass, you just have to do the assignments.

This professor is the BEST! I was supposed to have Professor Langer, but they switched the professor sometime mid-summer. I wasn't sure what to expect, but am SO glad he was teaching the course. Prof. Schochet is the man! Clear, no nonsense, straight to the point lectures. Takes time to explain things until perfectly clear. Homework comes from the book. Tests only on the things covered in class, no surprises. If you are interested in accounting and looking to learn from a great prof, take him. One of the best in BC, highly recommended!

My advise: If you are interested in a solid understanding of accounting, take this prof. If you want someone to give you a free pass, take someone else. Prof. Schohcet's lectures are brilliantly structured - you don't want to miss a minute of it. I learned so much about business and accounting from him. Take the course with him if you can!!

Two exams. Homework via Connect. There is quite a bit of homework but the lectures definitely prepare you for it. (You don't want to miss lectures, especially for this type of course.) All in all a most wonderful instructor - interesting, clear, and brilliant. Brooklyn College is lucky to have Prof. Schochet on its staff. Highly recommend.

Professor Sholom Schochet is one of the best professor I have ever had. Trust me his lectures are so clear and will help you in future. If you want to learn, this is the class. He gives three exam. 2 midterms and they are 25% each and a final exam which is 30%. 15 % is the homework and attendance. He knows how to respect his students. loved him.

Advanced accounting is a hard course. I was registered for someone else and they ended up switching professors, and I am so glad they did. This is the first time I rate someone on RateMyProfessor but he sure deserves good rating because he's the best professor at Brooklyn College! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

In order for me to expedite my graduation date, I opted to take accounting during winter session. While the class was challenging and the time crunch doubled the intensity of information over time, Professor Schochet made the class enjoyable and palatable. His tests are fair and he is eager to help. He truly sets his students up for success.

This class is intense. I took it in the winter session because I had no choice but to and I literally ate, slept and dreamed accounting. The teacher is very lenient and very helpful . The homework was doable and the exams are fine if you do the homework. I would have never passed without professor schochet. Take him you wont regret it.

Took Schochet for Intermediate Accounting, his lectures are very clear, breaks down the material from the textbook in a fun way. There was one midterm and one final with about 10 homeworks in total. Both midterm and final were on Connect and based on the homeworks and lecture notes. Would take him again if I have a chance

I took this class as a summer visiting student from Columbia w/ no previous accounting knowledge. Prof. Schochet was superb! He is an extremely clear lecturer and makes accounting interesting! His notes on the board can get messy, but if you pay attention and refer to the textbook, you should be fine. HWs and 2 exams via Connect + a final project.

Everything here is true about him from hw, final, midterm, and project. I can agree that what his write in the board is a bit messy and confusion but if you read the textbook which is a summary on what his wrote on the board then the hw and exam are 90% easy. BTW I took him during summer, I expect same thing but much easy during the fall session.

I am learning tons about fighting fraud in this course. It is totally online and Prof. Schochet assigns weekly quizzes and assignments. It's cool to be taughts by a CFE. The material is straightforward and there are no actual lectures. A great course - once you roll up your sleeves and do the work. Would highly recommend!

my first online course but was excellent. Lots of assignments but I learned lots about fraud detection and the prof graded assignments very quickly and was always available by email (he usually answered within a few hours, and sometimes a few minutes!) Would recommend the course for self motivated students but be warned, there are no lectures. gluk

He goes off on seemingly unrelated rambles that don't have much to do with the class, but those rambles consist of other invaluable information. Basically if you do the homeworks that he gives online and carefully review the review sheet he gives out before the midterm and final there's no reason you shouldn't get an A. No other exams besides midterm and final and both are online.

I have taken this course in the summer 1 session in 2019. There were a lot of homework assignments and quizzes. Also, there was a midterm and final exam. There was also a term paper. Get started on all of those things right away. There are some chapters from the textbook that are long. This course is very interesting. The professor is awesome.

Took this Fraud Accounting course during the summer. Many quizzes, assignments and a final prioject - that's the downside. The upside is no coming to class - all online - very interesting material, a prof who's always accessible for questionns and guidance and a clear curriculum. Would recommend for serious and disciplined students.

I took this course to complete the required credit for my CPA license. I also took it because I heard nice feedback from friends. Excellent choice - I learned fraud concepts I never knew about (Benford's Law!) and wrote a report about current fraud in the corporate world. If you pay attention in class, you won't need to read the textbook. There are homework assignments and projects due all at the end of the semester so you can pace it out. Exams are online but don't expect google to help you cuz it won't. He gives practice exams that are almost identical to the form of the actual exam so better do them.

I took this course to get my CPA license and I am glad I did. The course is fully online and there are MANY assignments, but the course is very doable with enough dedication. Online class. No due dates, everything due at end of semester. All work is done on Connect. Each chapter has a smartbook assignment and homework assignment. Other work is midterm, final, annual report assignment and ethics assignment. Not a hard class.

Awesome Professor. Very straightforward. He made all assignments and quizzes and term paper all due at the end of the semester. I would really recommend pacing yourself with the works instead of leaving it all last minute. Easy A for this class!

You have to teach yourself. EVERYTHING is on Connect, due at the end of the semester. Graded by 9 Smartbook assignments, 9 hws, 2 essays, 1 project, & 2 exams. I got a 64 on my final, but after completion of all other assignments, I ended up with an A- (adds 5 pts on overall grade for "COVID credit") meaning he's not test heavy. Would've gotten a B

Great Intro Accounting course! I took the online version. He gave lots of resources to succeed - but the course requires motivation as all is done online at your own pace. Prof is very generous and issued a covid credit due to circumstances. Would highly recommend for serious students. If you need hand holding, take his in-person class. Recommend!!

The course I took was fully online (covid). There was quite a bit of hw, a midterm and final. But, prof was always available and answered all my emials quickly and clearly. He provides tons of resources and lecture videos. Very fair grading and sympathetic to student's situation with flexible deadlines. Would recommend in a heartbeat. gluck

Took the intro class during the Winter and it was very difficult because we basically had to teach ourselves everything. However, the professor is very understanding. We had smartbook assignments which were very long and repetitive but it ended up being extra credit if we did it. I ended up with a 105 in the class. Very fair class!

I took a class in the winter semester, only 20 days. The course is difficult but if you do homework and tests after each chapter then you will succeed. You can get extra credits for good studies.

This prof makes you work for it. Ample work and practice. However, I ended up appreciating accounting in a way I would never have otherwise. Provided amazing lectures and resources. He was always available to me and my questions. Definitely recommend the course!

I recommend this prof and course. I learnt a lot and it was enjoyable. Many resources were provided and prof schochet was always available and eager to help and answer all my quetions. Lots of homework - but with generous policies (flexible deadlines, check your work, two attempts). Highly recommend!

This class was amazing! I am glad that have an opportunity to take this class and rich my knowledge. This class gave me a basic accounting understanding. Professor provides a different source where each student finds his own best way to learn and this way of teaching is very helpful and effective. I recommend professors for future students!

Brooklyn College has a gem of a professor. Prof. Sholom curated an awesome course with enough resources to learn without getting overwhelmed. I appreciated his flexibility with due date and the opportunity for extra credit. I hope to take another course with him in the spring.

He teaches tough accounting classes, but makes sure to prepare us well. Wasn't a fan of his zoom classes based on his muting policies, but other than that, he was amazing. Always accessible outside of class and acted as a guidance counselor/mentor of sorts. Really really knows his stuff.

The lectures, although not mandatory, are both informative and exciting. I wouldn't recommend taking this for a summer/winter class as there is a lot of material to cover. Although I took this class in the winter, I still got an excellent grade. The professor is a great guy, and there is a lot to learn from this class.

This professor is a gem! Due to the effect of COVID-19 in the 2021 Spring semester, he gave his students extra credit on the final grade. His exam is easy, you just need to read the materials and finish HWs, projects. You will easily pass his exams and get an "A" on your mark.

Any course with the professor Schochet is the best. I enjoy learning from his lectures

I delayed taking accounting for as long as possible due to fear of the topic but Prof. Schochet put me at ease. Accounting is not at all what I thought. Everything was explained to clearly and enjoyably - I have now chaged my major to accounting (no joke!). I am grateful to Prof. Schochet which is why I took the time to share this. good luck to all

This professor is one of the best I have had, if you take his online class he has everything there and you basically just follow a different chapter a week. I emailed him that one of the online quizzes for me failed and he emailed me back within 10 mins fixing the problem for me

Was nervous about accounting as math is not my thing. I learned in the course that accounting is more about organization than math. Prof. Schohet was caring and understanding of my circumstances when my grandma passed. He extended the deadline of some assignments. Nice guy and approachable. You will learn a lot. Recommend!

I learned that accounting is about organization, not math. I learned that accounting is not what most people think it is. Turns out, accounting is quite pleasant, light, and logical! I did not need to chase down pennies. :) Thanks to Professor Schochet, I have gained an appreciation to an area I had initially dismissed as irrelevant. Recommended!!

Had this professor during the 2023 semester not gonna lie there's a lot of writing but thats part of learning. Maybe 1-2 topics a week which isn't bad but still he is very nice. He replies to email fast and yeah just watch the online lectures do the work and you will get n easy A

Excellent course, caring professor, and clear assignments. I did not have high expectations coming into this accounting course (numbers are not my thing) but was pleasantly surprised that accounting can be interesting and useful. Certainly not as difficult as I assumed... Recommended!

Wonderful teacher, would take again

Hear about Prof. Schochet from friends who took his accounting courses. He did not disappoint. He speaks so clearly and it is a pleasure to listen to his lectures. He cares about the students. I am thinking of switching my major to accounting. It really is a fascinating topic! I have nothing but praise for this teacher.

Professor Schochet makes accounting surprisingly engaging. With his guidance, I gained a new appreciation for the subject. The workload is hefty, but using resources like Unstuck AI helped me stay on top of it.

It's a shame this site only allows 5 stars. On a scale from 1-5, this professor is hands down a cool 11. Super stuff!

Professor Schochet is an engaging and effective lecturer who makes his classes both interesting and easy to follow. His grading criteria were straightforward, consisting of 5 case studies, 3 research papers, and 2 exams. If you want to truly understand auditing, this is the professor to learn from.

Love this guy. Very understanding. He said the case studies have to be 3 pages but I wasn't able to stretch out the answers enough and wrote 2 pages and he still gave me 100. That doesn't mean you don't try, he's still looking for effort. Take him. This is the first time I got a full 100% on a course. Will be taking more of his classes. Easy exams.

Absolutely recommend. No joke, I switched my major to accounting right after this class. Never thought accounting could be this cool! Prof. Schochet picked such solid resources, and he's super fast at replying to emails. Honestly wish every prof at BC was like him.

Professor Schochet is wonderful and you will not regret taking him! He was always communicative and very organized with this course. The course was graded by chapter assignments, an annual report, and an ethics writing assignment. I would highly recommend this professor because he is quite on top of his responsibilities.

Professor Schochet is one of the best professors I've had. His lectures are clear and engaging, he's super responsive and supportive, and I found his grading to be fair. There's a good amount of work, but it actually helps you learn. I'd definitely take another class with him!

The class and the proffesor was very chill, but I feel like I did not fully get the grade I deserved. I did not get a higher grade than I anticipated because I apparently did not turn in something that I'm positive did do.
