Great professor!!! I totally recommend, the subject isnt easy so its not an easy A BUT hes great at teaching, very strong lecturer. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Great teacher. Always willing to help. Clear lecture. Straightforward tests
No Comments
very helpful and makes boring material interesting. the only prof who teaches with real world applications. i can actually use what i learn in the real world.
GREAT guy
He is the best econ teacher at emory!
The most amazing professor at Emory. I highly recommend taking any of his courses and getting to know him as a person.
Best Econ professor at Emory. He cares more about his students than any professor I have ever met
great teacher! I love his class!
I LOVE HIM! HE IS MY FAVORITE TEACHER! HE CARES ABOUT HIS STUDENTS AND WILL DO EVERYTHING TO HELP YOU DO YOUR VERY BEST!
he's one of the best professors I've ever had.
Good person, not the most clear.
His class is the best!
If you love mathematical abastract thinking of the real world problem, he is a good teacher to lead you into that world.
Amazing!
Great Professor. Best teacher I have had in the Economics Department. Really cares about his students. Classes are interesting and engaging. Always willing to help during office hours. Weekly homework assignments on aplia really reinforce the concepts learned and class. Take Dr. Banerjee if you want to really learn economics.
he is awesome i recommend strongly. best economics teacher i ever had.
Shomu is a great teacher, he is fun and easy to understand. Don't ask stupid questions, he will get mad..but that is only if you ask REALLY stupid questions. He gives a practice exam to you that is almost identical to his real exams. Attendance isn't mandatory, but there are quizzes almost every day.
Nice guy, very helpful, must come to classes to do well, go to office hours seem interested, wants you to do well, exams are definitely not easy but if you do lecture notes, hw, come to class, you are good to go
Awesome professor! I highly recommend taking his econ 101 and econ 201 classes. The tests are pretty straight forward. Most of the questions are identical or very similar to the practice problems.
He expects a lot out of you, which is good, but often has trouble communicating ideas, and gets frustrated at students for not understanding the material. His practice tests are a lot easier than his real tests leading to a false sense of preparation. His class requires a lot of effort including attendance because he gives quizzes almost every day.
I really liked his class. He gives a ton of help and practice tests from the last semester. He really tries his hardest for his students.
Dr. Banerjee is the best professor I have had so far.
Great professor! Very enthusiastic about what he teaches and wants his students to succeed. Although intimidating at first and class is stressful he is very helpful inside and outside of the classroom! Great person too!
Really great professor. I learned a lot from him.
GREAT teacher! Definitely take any of his courses. Not too stressful of a workload and you will learn ALOT.
I found that he taught in a very stressful way. Quizzes were given after little to no time to absorb the material. He tried way too hard to scare students away from the course and format it as a sort of weed out course. It is not a class that you can just study and do well in, you have to think mathematically and economically to be able to do well
One of the best professors I've had at Emory! So helpful and genuinely concerned about his students. A very quirky professor! His class is quite challenging however if you put in the effort, complete the Aplia problem sets and attend class.. you should be able to pull off a decent grade. Make sure you read before class and go to his office hours
Best teacher in Econ department. Take him!
The best professor I've had at Emory. The only problem you'll have is questioning whether you like econ itself or the way he teaches it. Quizzes are fairly straightforward, tests are based off of the quizzes, and homework is doable especially if you have people to check with. Highly recommended!
Extremely smart and well-spoken. He's dedicated to helping his students do well. Like he said the first day of class, if you're looking for an easy A, this isn't the class you're looking for. But if you want to really learn something about microeconomics that'll help you in the future, you've come to the right place.
the best professor ever in Emory!
HE ROCKS!! BANERJEE FOREVER!!
Unhelpful and condescending. Moves through material very quickly.
very specific teaching style. Teaches you how to do a type of problem then the tests test problems are a few difficulty levels up from the daily quiz questions. Highly recommend avoiding Shomu. He uses his own textbook with 'revolutionary' ways to teach econ but its confusing and much less clear than other textbooks
Dr. B is both an amazing person and an amazing professor. He is renowned at Emory and in the field of economics for a reason. If you can at all help it, take one of his classes. You'll get a lot from it and if you are struggling he will make himself available to help. He genuinely wants to see you succeed and is passionate about teaching.
Shomu is just amazing. There are quizzes every class though, so make sure you go
Attendance is a must, else you WILL lag behind. Nevertheless, he is awesome with his graphs, easy to understand and extremely smart! He is open to suggestions, and tests you not on bookish, but application based knowledge! A must-take class
I have to admit that Banerjee makes microeconomics interesting and abstract concepts easy to understand . However, he has a tendency to embarrass students who ask "stupid" questions. I am discouraged to ask questions and participate in class as a result.
Shomu is great. Definitely recommend you take this class with him. You will really learn the material. All sample tests are ESSENTIAL to doing well on the real exams. Memorize everything on the sample test. Don't buy the textbook, lecture notes will suffice. Print out ppts in color before every class! Quizzes every class to check for attendance.
HIS INTERMEDIATE MICROBOOK SUCKS
Love his class. If you do everything he says and not try to cheat your way out of it, you'll do well. He gives us constant practice and practice tests before the exam which help a lot! I took AP Micro in high school and still managed to do really well.
Excellent professor, great at explaininghelping, made me love econ. Much harder than Econ101. If you read your notes, do homework thoroughly, and keep up with the daily quizzes and worksheets, you should be fine for his difficult tests. The class requires effort and a large time commitment, but it is extremely rewarding and very doable. Recommend.
Best Economics teacher in Emory! Made micro so easy for the class. Very interesting lectures and to the point. sample exam given before is identical, makes exams extremely easy. Highly recommended
Banerjee is a wise wise guy indeed. He's sweet and he's a good guide but as a teacher he's ruthless. His exams are application personified and he is a harsh harsh grader. There are quizzes every class and while that may be beneficial to everyone's preparation, it also takes away a lot of time to prepare for other subjects.
Literally the clearest econ professor I've ever had. Tests require some extra thinking but that's just the trade off. People say he grades harshly but in econ the answer it either right or wrong, so no comment on that.
He is one of the best professors at Emory University. If you are thinking of majoring in Economics, take his class.
He's not just a wonderful professor, but an warming and compassionate human being who really cares about you and your stories. Go to this office hours, learn more about his work and talk to him. He gives great life advices!
I have heard so many good things about this professor before coming to Emory and it's true. I took him for my Freshman Seminar and it easily became one of my favorite classes. He helps a lot when you don't understand something. Lots of hands-on activities to help grasp the concepts and makes the class fun. He's also very inspirational.
Take Banerjee or Francis-Tan for Econ 201, both of them are amazing.
Best Econ professor at Emory. He's also a math genius. 101 is not that hard at all and he gives all notes and even practice exams.
If you are a Econ major, you need to take Dr. Banerjee. He is your best bet at Emory to ACTUALLY teach you something that's worth learning. His tests are tough but he prepares you for it every class with at least 2 or 3 in-class quizzes. If you need additional help, go to his office hours!
Not as good as his reputation. Always thinks he knows more and gives arbitrary opinions, though lectures are useful sometimes
One of the toughest classes I have taken in my three years at Emory. He's a hard grader and his tests cover things not in the lectures/book. Also, he gives pop quizzes and doesn't curve them. Has hurt my GPA too, especially since Im doing b-school/econ. Good luck spending your weekends working on this class!
Have to say his class is tough but his office is opened for anyone who needs help. He is a great teacher.
The best professor in Emory that I've ever met. Lectures are great, and his quizzes are very helpful. The exam is exactly the same format as his quizzes and his problems after class. No idea why there are so many complaints about the difficulty of this class. If you really do the problems, an A should be expected.
If you are an econ major who cares about learning the material at a deep level, take Banerjee. Most of the problems are very doable if you understand the intuition and are comfortable with the math. Certainly one of the best professors I have had at Emory. The test problems make you think, but are fair if you understand the material.
Dr Banerjee is a great professor and really cares about his students. He is always willing to amend his schedule in order to make room for you. Also, he is a very interesting person, so get to know him. Definitely take his class; he makes you work for it but an A is definitely manageable.
I honestly don't know what the hype about him is. He is a great professor, meaning he knows a lot about the economics field. However, his exams simply don't reflect what he teaches in class/homeworks. They are way harder to a point where it's hard to even apply the concepts we thought we learned.
Makes you think about microeconomics in general. Although exam Q's are kind of hard, he provides 2 sample exams before every midterm + final. You should expect to earn a grade you'd like as long as you put efforts and work!
HIS BOOK DOES NOT SUCK!! It's the best study guide for this course! Every concept is crystal clear and he digs deep into it. I have never encountered such concise and accurate text book in my college year. Many econ textbooks are wordy and sloppy, but his is concise and helpful.
Just yesterday when a peer who took another econ class asked me a question he deemed as so hard and undoable, and I looked at it and thought it was such a simple question, I suddenly realized how well Dr. B had trained us.
I have to say he really prepares us well for being an econ major! His lectures are clear and profound, and he gives us questions that require deep thinking. Quizzes per class but they are simple and he allows for group work. Always guide you through hard questions even on the exam (he gives you hint in hard questions sometimes).
One of the most genuine, caring, and passionate professors I have ever had at Emory. The first class will scare you because he gives 1-3 quizzes a class BUT these help you so much and they are easy. The quizzes and worksheets are amazing study guides for his tests (which are nearly identical). He also considers your effort and progress when grading
He is an amazing professor. He made topics that would be very difficult, easy to understand and apply. I felt like I really learned in his class. Thank you, professor.
Dr. Banerjee has a reputation on campus for being a really tough teacher. In ECON101 he pushed his students really hard, but it made us better in the long run. Much, much more difficult than other ECON101 classes at Emory, but you'll be really prepared. Daily quizzes so don't skip class. 2 Midterms (20% each) and a final.
Great teacher, funny guy, very cool. The class is extremely difficult though
Shomu is a great professor. He made dry material tolerable and gives students tons of opportunities to get good grades. Make sure to go to class and take notes.
Professor Banerjee is really funny and a very good lecturer. He is very passionate about the material and he cares about the success of his students. There are practice tests which are usually fairly similar to the actual tests, but usually the actual test is a little harder so it can be deceiving. Taking Banerjee's class was a solid experience.
I love him. He is the reason why I chose to major in Econ. He has quizzes everyday but they are pretty helpful. He explains everything pretty well and pretty funny guy. I would take him again for sure.
He is definitely the toughest economics professor and the class moves pretty fast. You can't really zone out in the middle of a lecture or skip this class if you want to do well. He is an AMAZING professor though, and will put in his level best to make you do well and love economics. Moreover, he is a gem of a person who truly cares about you!
Dr. Banerjee is awesome. His teaching style is engaging, and his grading structure is fair, yet forgiving. His life lecture showed everybody in our class how much he truly cares about his students, and I am so lucky to have had him as my professor. I have learned so much about economics and more importantly LIFE from Dr. Banerjee.
Dr.B is one of the best professors in the department and the reason I'm still an Econ major! I loved his class, he is a great teacher, explains concepts very well. That being said his classes are not easy. As long as you come to lectures, keep us with homework and assignments you should be fine. Take his class once at least, it's an experience!
Dr. Banerjee truly cares for his students. His clear and longstanding passion for Economics is clearly shown in his class and he continues to push his students to learn and persevere. He is a great lecturer and is great at explaining hard concepts in a way that makes sense to his students. I would definitely recommend taking any of his classes.
Professor Banerjee is a very caring prof; however, his teaching style is definitely not for everyone. He makes tests unnecessarily hard, and his lectures are hard to understand. Would recommend not recommend taking him.
Amazing person. be sure to attend his life lecture! Overall the class is very simple, but the hw counts more than you think so be sure to review it before submitting.
He's got such a wonderful personality and a dynamic way of explaining things, and his passion for the subject makes complex concepts understandable. Treasure of the econ department.
Difficult class but great professor
I just feel like he has been extremely insensitive given the pandemic. He expects everyone in class regardless of timezone. Can't miss as you will miss the 2-3 quizzes per class. While other classes have reduced the workloads, he posts heavy workloads one day due the next (we have other classes too YK). Makes his exams/class ridiculously stressful.
I dont know how he is outside of covid times. But as a low income student, I beg whoever is reading this not to take him. While other professors have shown that they understand how this situation isnt even or easy for everyone, he has increased the workload and claimed to make exams even more difficult to account for the fact that we are online.
Dr. Banerjee might be different remotely. I do not recommend students to take it at this time during remote learning. He made the class mandatory with a few quizzes in a class. He also went through materials very fast so students don't have a deep understanding on the materials. He also made the tests very hard just because we are taking it online.
Great professor and a wonderful man. I'm not phenomenal at Econ in general but Prof. Banerjee was very nice, caring, and helpful. He was especially cognizant of the challenges his students faced during COVID-19. It can be a tough class but I would also expect it to be easier to learn once classes return to in-person. Thank you Prof. Banerjee!
Best professor I have taken at Emory. He is an amazing lecturer, funny, challenging, but still understanding of his students. Tests are challenging and requires you to know the concepts inside and out, but definitely not impossible to get good grades on. He gives out 2-3 relatively easy group quizzes every class so make sure to attend the lectures.
Professor Banerjee was accessible and kind but his tests were overwhelmingly difficult and only 3 grades essentially dictated your grade. Do not slack off on the hw and honestly would not recommend to this class to anyone in an online format. Many in his class really struggle and when I went to TA's they didn't know how to do his problems.
Dr. Banerjee's lectures can be confusing at times but generally the tests and homeworks were easy enough. Dr. B's super sweet and very good about meeting with students outside of class. I can't recommend his lecture style but he's a very interesting person and I'm glad I got to know him.
Worst professor experienced at Emory. Dont know how to respect students
Banerjee is overrated as a professor imo. He is certainly well respected, but his lecture style just didn't work for me. He explains things by just telling you the formula to solve it, and not by understanding what is happening. Some might like that, I didn't. Regardless, he was very available and cared for his student's success.
Dr. B cares a lot about his students and will spend a lot of time making sure you understand the material! I would not recommend taking if you are not an Econ major - he tells all non-Econ majors to drop on the first day. The class isnt easy but Dr. B makes it worth it :)
Banerjee is the best professor I have had at this school so far. He is caring and passionate about what he teaches. I had him for both ECON101 and 201. He is known to be a little harder than the other professors but worth it. If you pay attention in class you will learn a lot and be prepared for exams. Not very much homework either.
Graded by a final, two mid term, 80 or so quizzes and homework, the quizzes and homework is fine as long as you find people to work with, but exams are hard. Lectures are pretty dull and the textbook he suggests is his own so it's not very useful.
He makes the class so much harder just because it was in person. He changes an A from a 95 to a 93 for us and to a 90 for the online version. He even rounded up his grade further so an A- to an A. He dropped 12+ quizzes of the 80+ we take online and only 6 in person. If you don't get a good group you are screwed. The tests are also insane.
Make sure you go to class and take notes
Prof Banerjee's 201 class is challenging but if you listen and take notes during lectures it is possible to do well. Recommends a textbook but don't really need it. He's funny, willing to help, and accessible. Atleast one quiz is given each class (10ish are dropped). Class is graded by 2midterms, quizzes, 5 hw sets, and a final.
Dr. Banerjee is a great professor but can be a tough grader and get stern at times. His class is damn tough. Hence if you aren't wanting to do an Econ major, you shouldn't do his class. He has been very helpful throughout the course, and he teaches the course really well. He makes you do quizzes/worksheets every day to help you learn.
His class is really hard, and the avg for a typical test would be around a 78-80. He doesn't reduce the grade cutoffs by that much despite the avg being low for tests. He only reduced the cutoffs by 1% for us (95 to 94 for A, 90 to 89 for A-, 87 to 86 for B+, etc). This is an extremely tough class that will take away almost all your time
Professor Banerjee is definitely one of the best professors I have ever had. His lectures are pretty engaging and he explains everything so well. He truly cares for his students and willing to set up office hours whenever you need helps. Highly recommend!
This class is an insanely hard one. I wouldn't recommend anyone taking this class unless you are an econ major. Wouldn't recommend freshman to take it, especially with this professor as you have quizzes/worksheets almost everyday and the tests are insane. It takes up all your time, and you won't have time for your life and other subjects.
It is such a hard class. You really need to be a genius to power through this class. Banerjee is a harsh professor. You need to know concepts inside and out for tests. He doesn't give much partial credit. If you just know the concepts based on what is said in the textbook and in-class but are not able to apply them, you won't do well in your tests.
Banerjee is a very smart, old man, but man his lectures are so fast and he doesn't care about you much on an individual level. If you don't get a good group for your daily quizzes/worksheets, you are screwed. Make sure to have friends to study with. His tests are also insane and he doesn't curve much despite averages being in the high 70s.
His class is undoubtedly among the hardest at Emory. He will push you a lot. He sends an email at the beginning of the semester warning people about how hard the course is. He tells non-econ majors to drop. He even says "If you're a BBA student, you don't need this class and my past experience with BBA majors is that they drop or do poorly."
He goes soo fast and doesn't care much about you on an individual level. He gets frustrated if you can't get concepts quickly. He is impatient and expects you to be a genius. He gets mad if you aren't good at the subject. Don't take this class if you aren't a genious.
He is overrated as a good professor. He is terrible. He doesn't even give extra credit despite the avg's being so low in this class. There are literally people who got 20 or 30 on his midterms. If you are a freshman, run away from this course.
He has become awful. He simply makes everything soo hard and doesn't accomodate students that much. Dont take him for ECON 201. He doesn't know how to teach in a way that can help for tests. He also doesnt know how to respect students. DONT TAKE
RUN AWAY FROM THIS CLASS IF you aren't good at teaching yourself or doing math. Midterms are so effing hard and the professor doesn't teach well. DON'T TAKE
my main man shomu is truly goated with the sauce
A very hands-on teaching style with many in-class activities that were meant to help, but in the end it was just super rushed so hard to actually grasp content. Definitely need to spend a lot of time outside of class to keep up with the concepts
banerjee is absolutely goated with the sauce. he runs the class so it feels like an easy-A class, but somehow you actually learn all the material at the same time! There's "quizzes" in class almost every day, but you can work on them with your group-mates and get help from any other students around you. Just stay on your toes!
The class is inherently difficult, but Banerjee's 'model-based approach' makes the content easier to apply to real-life scenarios; he cares about your learning and makes an effort to ensure you know what is going on. The content itself takes time to understand and requires you to work. He is very well-versed in teaching the subject.
Extremly hard class! Weed-out and you learn sooo much material, its insane. Will be one of the hardest you take in college. Luckily, Banerjee is the god damn GOAT. Very few professors who can teach as efficiently as he can. He makes sure no one falls behind through countless quizzes which force teamwork. Exams are rough, but curved generously.
The course is inevitably challenging, but Dr. Banerjee made it approachable. Each lecture contains many quizzes but were all very helpful. He also takes everyone's efforts and improvements into consideration. The final is curved generously.
Banerjee has been my absolute favorite professor at Emory. He has an engaging class style: in class, he'll have one chunk of lectures followed by a quiz, and so on. You get to learn and apply concepts and class doesn't feel long. Also, he is so caring: he challenges you but is always there to answer questions. He also wants to know you as a person!
Dr. B's Econ 201 class was definitely one of the hardest classes I have taken at Emory. That being said, it is definitely doable if you are willing to put in the effort. Amazing lectures and gives multiple quizzes every class to help learn the concepts. Generously curved final. He is caring, supportive, and very accessible outside of class.
Yes, the class is difficult, but if you pay attention and stay on your toes with the "quizzes," you can be successful in the class. If you're in business school, do not take this class. The more calculus you know, the better. Tests will always contain something which will require you to think and will be a variation of something done in class.
This class was tolerable. The TAs are very helpful and honestly helped me more than the lectures themselves. Class is very fast-paced. Find a good study group.
Make sure you have a good study group
He was a lovely and warm teacher. You did need to turn up to class and study before quizzes. If you this though it is a fairly easy A.
His lectures are very confusing and make no sense. He gives two quizzes every class on the material he just taught, so attendance is important. The exams are harder than what is done in class and there are questions on things that we never learned. Do not take this class worst teacher I've ever had.
Please take a different econ professor. there are so many other econ professors that you can get an A with. He explains things horribly and your grade is made up of 70% off of hard exams.
Great lectures and easy to take notes on. He does make us take 2 in class quizzes every class to make sure you were paying attention so just show up, they are huge grade boosters.
Shomu is generally a great teacher. Attendance is necessary due to daily quizzes but they are very easy and you are allowed to collaborate. Additionally, he happens to be very grade inflationary. Lastly, he is a very understanding and down to earth teacher.
Out of any professor I'd ever had, Dr. B truly did care the most about his students and their success. He keeps you on your toes with his in-class "quizzes" (open note and you can work with others), but genuinely, if you're interested in microeconomics or just need to fulfill a gen-ed, any class with him would be a wonderful option.
Take this class if you're gonna major in economics. It's pretty hard but very valuable
Profesor Banerjee is like a can opener, nothing special but gets the job done. The class is easy if you're smart (if you got in regular decision don't worry). Just pay attention and you'll be fine. Not too math heavy and a good starter class. Also he curves the final grade I good amount.
Dr. B's class is super easy and a fun intro to economics. If you show up to class and are doing well on the in-class quizzes, the tests are not too bad. He always puts a few trick questions on them but mostly the tests are all questions you've seen before. There is little to no work outside of class.
Definitely recommend Shomu if you want to be a better person. His kindness makes up for his height.
Prof. Banerjee is very knowledgeable and clearly delivers the message through lectures. There is usually an in class quiz to check understanding, so attendance is mandatory. Tests account for a majority of the grade but he provides practice tests and good study materials.
Super sweet professor. Lectures can be a little boring but informative. There is a 4 pt collaborative quiz every class, and its easy to get good grades on those. Willing to chat outside of class. He remembers everyone's names/faces after the first month, pretty much. Enjoyed it as an econ major - but probably an easy class as a gen ed too
He is the best professor at Emory for sure! I have never been this interested in lectures and I genuinely learned a lot. It is a great class for any econ majors as nobody else provides such a strong foundation! It is a tough class to do well in and I spent most of my time on this work, but if you are interested in Econ then you must take shomu
Professor Banerjee's class is a good intro to economics. Attendance is a must, and in-class quizzes help boost your grade. Leverage resources like unstuckstudy alongside the textbook for efficient study prep. Overall, a manageable course if you stay engaged.
He is the best Professor I've ever had in my life.
Amazing professor. Extremely helpful and accessible outside class. ECON 201 is a hard subject in itself and the way he teaches it makes the class so much more fun and enjoyable. Would definitely take him again.
