Great teacher!!!! I have learned so much in his class that is actually useful not just out of the book which is outdated. Has an interactive class which is condusive to learning and retaining. He grades on your understanding not only on if questions were answered the way he prefers. He makes his own tests based mainly on class discussions.
The worst teacher ever! Doesn't care if you didn't understood the topic. Not so helpful in any way. Not recomended!
Great teacher! It's a straight to the point type of class. I came in knowing nothing about econ, and did well. He doesn't trick you; everything that is on the test/quiz is in his lectures! Wonderful class, I recommend it!
Great teacher!! Good explanations, real life examples. Best at Clark by far!!
DO NOT take this class! He does not care if his students succeed or not. I am taking this class online and it is by far one of the worst classes. I have taken several classes online and did just fine. He does not help you what so ever, nor does he respond to emails. The average class score on the last 2 tests was a 'D' that explains the rest!
Shon knows and loves his subject. He teaches it straight from the hip, ie: NO BUSYWORK. I'm IN class, and he's very helpful and willing to answer any questions we have, and will go over it until we get it. He's very direct in his teaching and I appreciate that quite a bit.
Maybe I'm biased because I thought he was totally sexy, but I enjoyed the class even though econ's not my cup o' tea. I'd totally recommend his class. He doesn't screw around and waste your time, and he hates busywork as much as students do. Very refreshing and will work with you until you understand the concepts.
If you want to learn Economics take Kraley.
Shon is one of the best instructors at Clark. He treats his student as adults and doesn't waste time. When the instruction is over, so is class. If you want to be coddled and get hugs for being mediocre or infantile, this isn't the class for you. If you want a good solid class then he is the way to go.
SIMPLE SYLLABUS AND CLEAR EXPECTATIONS!!! Great explanations, teaches to learn not just regurgitate, good balance of easy-going but with expectations.
He is the best teacher ever... has handout/slides for every session and everything on the test is in them. Study the notes, and you will ace the class. Many dont even need the textbook, although it is useful (and deemed necessary by Kraley to study). Weekly one pagers, based off the chapter.. Used chapter summaries along with notes to ace his class
Doesn't care if you are there or not, but all he cares about is that you learn. Doesn't waste your time. Focuses on what you need to learn, not what you already know.
I really enjoyed this class! Learned soooo much! Great class to take, very useful in the long run. Professor makes the concepts understandable.
gosh, hes the best teacher ever! he makes something that dosent make sense make sense! hes funny, very nice!
Shon did make the concepts easier to understand, but his wording on some questions on the tests was a bit confusing to me. He assigned all the questions at the end of chapters because he said he MIGHT collect them. Who has time to answer all those quesions? I would still recommend him because he does make a boring subject more interesting.
I took Shon's online Intro to Econ class as a pre-req for my master's program. It was pretty easy. Tests were open book (obviously, since it was online) but the wording was difficult to understand at times. I was surprised by how well I did. He did have some issues getting tests out on time but would extend the due date if they were late.
He's very clear when teaching. I had to read 2 chpts per week and turn in a current event, a summary of the chapters and any question I had every week. In addition, we had to take a quiz per week. He is not complicated regarding grading.
Real straight forward and funny guy. He explains stuff really well and instead of using confusing vocab he uses simple words that mean the same thing. Class is pretty dang easy if you read the book
I don't recommend his online classes. He is not involved at all. The concepts are difficult without lecture. I'm a great online student, 4.0 GPA, but this class/instructor online is really difficult. Tests are really hard, wording is very specific. If you don't need the class, don't take it- at least don't take it online!
Instructor is not involved in online course, no interaction, no comments. Instructor basically sets up the modules then disappears. From the comments he is great in person, but I sincerely do not recommend his online course. I'm an excellent online student but this class is very difficult, and the final is absolutely brutal.
I have taken 4 economics classes, this being my last. This has been the first class I actually understood. Econ is an easy A no matter who you take it with, but Kraley actually teaches. Attendence isnt mandatory, but there are quizes every week. Doesnt just read from the book and makes up his own finals every quarter based on class discussions.
Not an extraordinarily hard course. You will enjoy his enthusiasm and passion in regards to econ.
This is the best professor I've had at Clark. I entered the class with zero interest in econ, I just needed to fill a time slot. I left with a desire to major in economics. He doesn't babysit, he loves the topic, and he makes it fascinating. Take his class! You will find you actually want to go.
BEST PROFESSOR I EVER HAD
Hard class, good teaching. Clear lectures.
Never responds to my questions in regard to online course. 100% class averages on reports and such... not sure what this guy's deal is. He's a PhD getting tax payer dollars and he doesn't even take the time to read his students work. The whole damn thing is automated.
This teacher does not even seem to notice that he is teaching an online class. We read the text, do the online tests and discussions, and write online papers each week and we get NO FEEDBACK! There are not grades in the gradebook and it is now week 4 of an 8 week quarter... I am teaching myself this subject.
Took his online class. Very easy. I got 100% on every paper and discussion question. At least 90% on every quiz. Just wish he'd respond to email's quicker. I've sent him two this quarter, one took 4 days to respond. One was sent 3 days ago and he has yet to respond.
I don't know much about being a student in his virtual classroom, but his actual face to face classes rock. He explains everything clearly so his lectures are very effective and worthwhile. He expects you to participate and learn something from his class. Great professor. Very nice, I like....
I think he grades easily on discussions and papers because the quizzes (which are pre-made by the textbook company) are nearly impossible and I swear, are worded to purposely try and trick you. Some questions are nearly impossible to understand.
Awesome teacher. I loved the fact that he went over quizez after we take them and after we get them back. Also before each quiz he did a review (SUPER HELPFUL). I thought this class was pretty easy. You have a quiz every week (easy) and paper due (easy). Recommended .
I took his class online.I would highly recommend it! Very easy, he tells you what he wants each week, you do it. You get a good grade.
Took Intro into Economics online; I was worried because it was online that I'd find it extremely difficult when in actuality, as long as you read the book and read the questions thoroughly, you'll do a great job. Excited to take another!
For the first few weeks I wasn't sure how I would enjoy the rest of the qtr. because there was a lot of information covered each class and Shon didn't seem too frienly. But if you read the ch's before class its easier. Each week a paper's due and there's a quiz--you know what to expect. Hes really knowledgable and is humorous at times.
So this class was definitely not meant for an online class. Too many examples that need to be covered by a teacher not a book. Personal opinion! Shon wasn't able to help a whole lot and was not so good about responding to emails.
Took online Econ201 for the Summer12 qtr. Don't ever expect a response to email. He very rarely responds to questions on the forum, and grades are typically 2 wks late getting posted. Coursework was fairly easy. Paper due each wk, doesn't care bout word count, just prove u read the txt. Even tho this course lacks a prof, I recommend taking it.
The class was fairly easy. He mainly uses power point slides in class, and the tests and quizzes mainly focus on what is on those slides. He posts the slides online, so if you miss class, there's no problem picking up what you missed. Homework is really easy, and the quizzes aren't too bad. He doesn't explain things too well, but the class was easy
I took both micro and macro with Shon. He's a great teacher and really good at explaining the material. If you ever get confused, he is always willing to stay after class to help you understand. And he's funny! Loved these classes and wish I could take more with him!
Overall a great teacher, always responds, quick to help when problems arise and is willing to clarify when needed. I love this class as an online class. He does not throw trick questions in there and if you do the work you will get an A!
The instructor for this class took two, sometimes three weeks to grade assignments. He lacked urgency in answering questions via email and on the main post. He failed to answer his phone or call back after letting us know he could be reached. I have heard his face to face class is awesome, I would not recommend his online class.
Have taken his course for intro and micro, good teacher, took both online, very helpful and was happy with my grades.
Great online class. Discussion post, 3 responses, weekly chapter and article summary, and quiz due every week. Not too difficult. Wish he taught Econ 202 online! Would definitely recommend his online class.
Not that helpful, goes through material really fast. Expects you to read all the chapters and remember all the details.
Teacher is really helpful and understands that it is really hard subject. Provides good midterm and final practice tests
Shon is amazing! Lets you work on your own time, just do the assignments well = get a good grade. One of the best ECON classes you can take. Highly recommend. Weekly quiz, paper and post. No Midterm just 3 hour final. Grades very fair, works with students. Will try to take him for 202.
Took the online ECON201 summer course. Shon did a great job of condensing the material and making it manageable. One quiz, paper, and at least four discussion posts a week. Average workload for a 5 credit social science. Final was three hours. Required EconPortal access to take quizzes and final. Would highly recommend this teacher. Grades fair.
Shon is a good professor. He will always ask the class questions and go over it as many times as it takes so that you can understand the material. I took the course in the summer so we had to go over all the chapters in 8 weeks. You do have to read a chapter a week and do weekly quizzes and paper but he gives you hints. Easy 4.0 as long as you read
This was an awesome economics class. I certainly wasn't thinking of economics as a possible career choice for me, but this class was so interesting, so intriguing, and just fun, that economics major is definitely high on my list now. Overall, Shon is a great teacher, and an even nicer guy. I feel lucky to have this be my first economics class.
GREAT teacher. Patient and very clear in explaining things. The class is well balanced between mini-essays and tests. Fair grader. Lots of class discussion vs lecture keeps the class interesting. Classes ran until no one had anymore questions for the day (often got out early)
After the first day in Shon's class you will be a believer. After his brief description of the course syllabus, Shon will as his class what are the expectations that we have of him!! Never heard a professor ask this question before. Completely an awesome experience taking his class. So I made sure that I took him for both Econ 201 & 202.
Great class with a great teacher. Good information on canvas, print it out and bring it to class and add bits from lecture and you will do great. Easy going, willingness to make sure you understand and makes economics easy.
Shon is a great professor. Probably one of the best I've ever taken a course from. Teaches you what you need to know and skips the fluff. He doesn't assign busy work just textbook reading and a short paper each week so that you can participate in lecture. Always willing to help you understand the material and is a great grader.
Great professor. To the point teaching that is interesting and engaging. I liked that there wasn't any "busy work," all of the assignments were on a strict need-to-know basis. I thought Economics would be boring, he made it interesting.
Shon is an amazing instructor. The best one I've had yet at Clark. He is very good at relating coursework to real life examples in a way that students can understand. I would recommend taking his course any day!
If you do the reading you should be fine.
One of the best I've ever taken a course from. Teaches you what you need to know and skips the fluff. He doesn't assign busy work, just textbook reading and a short paper each week so that you can participate in lecture.
This is an awesome class. I don't think anyone would regret taking. Although the subject material is interesting and intriguing, I think the teacher is probably the best part of this entire class. Shon really makes the class enjoyable and is very patient and it's easy to just walk up and ask questions. This is my most enjoyable class yet.
Really enjoyed Shon's class. He has a great sense of humor and made Economics enjoyable. Read the material, do the work and you should be fine.
Amazing teacher, great person. Highly recommend him!
Probably my favorite instructor ever. He assigns zero busy work. If your a self motivated person this is a wonderful class; if you're a bit lazy and tend to slack off then it may be difficult because there isn't much homework to guide you along. Glance at the textbook, do the small weekly papers and review for the quiz's and you should be fine.
AMAZING teacher. He explains things in a very clear manner, and will answer questions until he is blue in the face, if that's how long it takes you to get it. No busy work, just a weekly assignment and quiz. Attending every class will IMMENSELY improve your grade. Take notes on everything he puts on the board. Class ended early every day :)
I LOVED his teaching! Doesn't take attendance other the first day. He doesn't give almost any homework but there is quite a bit of reading you have to do. He gives lectures (discussions) in every class but he's never boring and makes everything super easy to understand! You should be kind of self-disciplined to take his class but he's great!
shon is a great teacher. I took his class for a summer quarter and even though it was only a six week course i felt like i learned a lot. if you take his class read or skim the chapters and take good notes in class. His test and quizzes are based on his lectures. I strongly recommend this teacher. He made macroecon fun and interesting.
I took his online Econ 201 class Econ was really hard for me to get into, however it did get interesting toward the end. I really appreciated how quickly he responded to emails he was always very helpful. Discussion posts and a lot of reading and tests. He did a really good job of putting the online course together it had a really good flow.
Shon is a great teacher and definitely knows what he's talking about! The class is not hard, as long as you skim the chapters, take notes and show up to class. Weekly papers and quizzes go hand in hand and don't take much time.
Easy weekly papers, 7 tests with lowest dropped, midterm & final all worth 25%. His lectures are vague, but he gives you what you need. Go to class prepared so you can ask questions. He is extremely patient when explaining info you don't understand. His expectations are clear and he doesn't put trick questions on his tests.
Good course. Must get student interaction to get full value. The book is hard to use to understand where he is going. He knows his stuff, just have to be vocal to get it out of him.
This class was not hard. If you go to all of his lectures you will do great. He is good at explaining things more than one way. He will help explain anything that is not clicking. He is a great teacher and I recommend taking any econ class with him.
Not a lot of outside work, got out of class early most days, and most of the tests are based on lecture. I showed up to every class without reading and didn't have any problems. Besides the tests, there is a weekly quiz and article summaries due about every week! No big deal. I enjoyed the class and would take it again!
Very easy class, simple summary paper due every week, simple quiz every week, midterm test and take home final. Very good at explaining things, if you show up and pay attention, you'll pass with flying colors. Reading the textbook is more of an aid rather than a requirement.
Great Instructor, quick and to the point and answers any questions asked. Wished he would have posted grades regularly though.
It was an up and down class. The online host for Econ 201 was in EconPortal. It basically ruined the class for me and took Shon weeks of complaints before something was done. Since the class was online and there were always issues with the host website; I felt I learned nothing in this class. I have a general grasp of economics and that helped.
Great teacher. He talks like a football coach but its clear what he is saying. He doesn't care about attendance but the book isn't very clear so its better to go to the lectures. Doesn't give busy work. Took for Econ 201 & 202.
If you have even the slightest spark of passion for economics Shon will give you your moneys worth of knowledge. Its not easy information to fully understand but this professor is able to explain everything in a very clear and exciting way. I agree with the person who compared him to a football coach. Awesome awesome class. Take ECoN w/ this guy!!
Shon made the course interesting, and clearly explained everything. If anyone had any questions, he would answer them. Attendance was optional, but if you skipped, especially on Tuesday, you would miss the weekly quiz, as well as his very helpful lecture. He was an excellent professor, and I would definitely take one of his classes again.
Amazing teacher!! One of the best teachers at clark college! Took Shon for both Econ 202 and 203 and absolutely loved his class! I would definitely take him again!!
Mr. Kraley's econ101 class is basically just 4 one-week classes throughout the 12 weeks. All you have to do it read the lecture, read the book for any clarification, and take the test, and write a tiny little discussion post. 3 sentences gets you an A. Literally all of the answers are given to you in the very simplistic lecture.
Best professor ever ! Take with him and you will not regret it .. so helpful and amazing . He always find a way to make things work just ask for help
Honestly the best professor i have had. He teaches evening classes so it can be a little tireing at times, but he almost never keeps you the whole time. The way he teaches seriously makes him a down to earth and relatable guy. You know when they say beauty isn't about the looks, well he's flaming hot on the pepper because of the way he lectures.
Best teacher ever ! Literally best teacher at Clark ! He is the best and he really deserve 5.0 rating !
He is an awesome Professor and I would take him again! He doesn't care about your grade he tells you first day. He wants you to understand the material more than anything else. He will work with you so you will till you understand what you don't get. His lectures are AWESOME! He bring the econ lingo down so we can understand it!!
I took Shon's class for both micro and macro, I recommend him every chance I get. He only cares about you learning. Yes, there are weekly papers on the chapters you read for that week but they are easy and meant to help you retain what you read. Then you take a lil quiz on those chapters. He's a phenomenal teacher who I'd recommend to everyone!
Shon is a very solid instructor. He's incredibly intelligent, engaging, and happy to spend all the time needed to guarantee that YOU learn something. It's advisable to not miss classes. The way he grades is based on how and what he teaches. He teaches from the book so you have to read but the language and criteria of testing is lectured.
Overall, he's a great teacher. He even recommended my class to go into this website to review him, good or bad. The only thing that I didn't really like was that all of his quizzes where worth 10 points each, so if you miss a few questions, you get a low grade. However, he gives 1 extra credit per quiz, and then drops your lowest scoring quiz.
Shon is a great teacher. He is friendly and laid-back, and his lectures are very engaging. The quiz questions are simple and easy to understand. However, they were all worth 11 points, which was odd. Recommended instructor!
Shon's lectures are very interesting, and I genuinely enjoyed learning about macro. He also cares about your success in class, and wants you to learn. His quizzes are the perfect length, and he grades fairly. However, he doesn't respond very quickly to canvas email.
This man is one of my favorite teachers for any class I have taken, he is straight forward on what will be on the exams, and gives you help if you need it. he spends the first 10 minutes of class discussing things that have been happening to the economy and events that could damage it. he is hilarious and will make you interested in economics.
Shon is incredible at breaking down "Econ Speak" and explaining hard concepts to the lay man. He's funny and very interested in our learning. You'll cover current events every class, discuss the text and more, have weekly homework (not hard but it keeps you moving forward in the class), and test a few times. He's an awesome professor.
Shon definitely knows his stuff when it comes to economics, and he loves what he teaches. I wouldn't say it's an easy A but if you do the work, it's not too difficult. When he writes on the board it can get a bit messy but he understands if you can't read it and will answer any questions you have.
Shon does not have the tests and quizzes connected with Canvas. While it is in the syllabus that Sapling Learning was where they were, there was no sign on Canvas that I had missing assignments, no email communication that I had missed 3/4 of the quizzes. Such an inconvenience. When I emailed him about extra credit opportunities, he was very rude.
Very well organized class. Everything was laid out plainly, grading criteria was fair, and there were plenty of extra credit opportunities. For the online class there were no lecture videos or other study materials other than the textbook and Sapling chapter quizzes, so YouTube and other online supplements were needed occasionally.
Don't take his online class. Seriously was the worst teacher I have ever had in college. He doesn't teach! Rather he has you read 2 chapters of the book, then take a quiz at the end of the week that almost looks foreign to what was learned from the book. Looking for help, I emailed him, took him 5 days to respond. Save yourself.
maybe i'm just stupid, but it was so hard to understand his lectures, he went through the content so quickly that by the time he'd ask "any questions?" i didn't even know where to start because i understood 0% of it. intimidating and abrasive at times. if you're even the tiniest bit shy or anxious, i do not recommend his class.
Class was reading 1-2 chapters a week, writing a one page summary of them, taking a quiz on them, and answering a discussion question (3 replies). Doesn't seem to look at things when grading, graded three of my papers in two minutes, so as long as it looks good, you get an A. Little to no teacher interaction. Extra credit on some of quizzes.
It's hard work, but why shouldn't it be? The beginning of each class session a discussion of "How's the economy doing?". These discussions tie the theories that we learn to the real world, quite useful, in my opinion. Quizzes pretty much each week, but if you're keeping up with reading and HW, you'll be fine.
Shon's lectures follow a pattern. First discuss what's going on the economy - what's in the news - great for relating the class learning to the real world Next is usually a quiz. If you've read the material and done the homework, they are a breeze After that Shon presents slides from the pre-read chapter and indicates the important stuff
This Class was pretty easy. As long as you turned everything in before Midnight Sunday he didn't mark your assignments as late and gives you full credit. The down side was having to pay for sapling and getting it to cooperate good for the quizes that are weekly.
Took Kraley online, didn't interact with him much. Very independent class. Textbook+Youtube "ACDC ECON"Success. All discussions and written projects were graded generously if you put the effort in. Sapling quiz questions were weighed heavily (stressed me out), but the total class grade balanced out in the end. Good class overall. I learned a lot.
Very in organized. Gives you quizzes about the previous week and has extremely boring lectures. The Textbook Review questions are horrible and of no help. He doesnt offer good help either, just asks you to do more homework. Avoid this professor.
Shon was really easy-going and understanding when it came to deadlines, participating in discussions, and technical issues. But besides the first week of the course, Shon rarely communicated with the class and never gave any feedback. Be sure to do some of the optional homework since the reading doesnt cover how to solve all quiz questions.
His no make up rule is ridiculous. Forgotten to do one small part of my assignment and he wouldnt budge on allowing me to make it up. He doesnt even have the calendar set up with due dates, doesnt respond to comments or emails in a timely manner, and is overall a lazy professor. The only positive thing about his class is how easy it is.
Kraley only interacted with our online class at the start of the quarter, but I didn't mind his "hands off" approach. Each week there was a discussion (4 short posts), quiz (practice quizzes available), and a "paper" (3 paragraphs summarizing the week's topic(s) and connecting them to your own life)easy 75% of grade. Final test makes the last 25%.
Worst class I have taken at Clark. You read the textbook and every Sunday you write a paper on the reading and do a quiz. That's it. He posted a couple of discussions on Canvas at the beginning of the term but other than that this guy has been completely MIA. The quizzes are 5-7 obtuse questions so if you miss one question it chunks your grade.
This Professor is unprofessional and really bad at giving feedback. The grading was unclear, the assignments were unclear and there was very little guidance and no communication. Terrible professor!
I've never rated a teacher before so this is your fair warning. Do not take this dude. He only cares about tenure and could care less about you or your education!!!! Weekly quizzes have so few questions that there is no room for marginal error. Miss one question and you get 75%. Does not give credit for partially correct answers.
I'm taking this course right now and there are barely any opportunities to be able to learn the material. It's mostly taking notes for the assigned chapters and then taking quizzes with questions that require more than just a reading. It feels more like a self taught class because he doesn't do anything.
An easy A class, the professor is an easy grader. But don't expect any feedback from him, or any teaching. You do lots of reading, discussions, and quizzes, and he just put's grades. You are basically teaching yourself. He NEVER replied to any of my questions, I even doubt that he read any of my works. Friendly advice - DON'T take his class.
All he does is give the same weekly assignments from a book we read, he doesn't comment on them or do anything, even the tests are automatically graded. Worst teacher I have ever had.
I took my class because I saw that he had good reviews. No lectures, study guides, ton of reading and ur quizzes, that you cant retake, are most of your grade. I started struggling and emailed him for help..silence for 2 weeks. Do it again. Silence for 2 weeks. He responds the day before the final saying have you tried reading more carefully
This professor was very helpful and kind. I had run into a big issue and he was able to take the extra time to help and make sure I succeed. Great teacher and person
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. There is a weekly quiz, paper, and discussion. The quizzes are SO SHORT and worth only 11 points. If you get ONE wrong, your grade gets tanked. He does no teaching or lectures, you just have to read the text. I strongly recommend taking the practice quizzes for each chapter that is provided by Macmillian, the textbook.
Too much homework for a 5 credit class! The teacher is OK, but the 10 question quizzes just mess up your grade. If you get 2 questions wrong, your assignment score goes down to 80%. I studied hard, but because of the small number of questions, the quizzes really messed up my overall grade. This class also seemed like a 10-credit class to me.
The class was very hard with little engagement from the teacher. The material wasn't too difficult, but the work load was crazy. With weekly chapters (that are super long), papers, quizzes (that were hard and tanked your grade), discussion questions, I was swamped with homework. Doesn't mention resources available in the websites, not very helpful.
Microeconomics online with Kraley was okay, the class mainly consists of one weekly paper, a weekly dicussion post (3 responses plus your original post) and weekly quizzes. The discussion posts and papers were really easy, but I personally really struggled on the quizzes. But, on the plus side, some of the same quiz questions do appear on the final
1-2 para. summary per chapter (2 chap/week), 2 para. current econ event that relates to chapter, one test per week. MICRO is more difficult then MACROecon, he tries to simplify the material as much as possible, but expects you to have already read the chapters before coming to class. Use his lecture time to ask questions about topics your iffy on.
Her class is pretty much impossible to fail, 60% of the grades are "do it until it's done and you get 100%" regardless of accuracy. The only thing to look out for is that she is very clear on what you are supposed to do at the start but gets more and more vague near the end of the course. Great class overall, would take again.
The class is heavy on readings and quizzes, but using resources like Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook can help simplify the material. Engagement from the professor is limited, so self-study is key to success.
The most hands-off professor I've ever had. Besides easy weekly discussion and replies, everything was done on some website. There were 2 chapters of reading each week with an easy assignment for each, and then weekly quizzes that made up 25% of the grade. There were no redo's for those. There were also no extra credit opportunities. Very dry.
