I had her for Principles of Bio and Freshman Seminar. She expects you to do the work you are required to and to pay attention in class, etc. (your at college, get used to it!) Watch out for her tests though (read carefully)!
shes a very good;ecture teacher, her tests are hard because they are worded in a confusing way...they are possibleto pass if you know your material. she doesnt move to fast so its possible to study the material well.
I had her for bio and sem she is not a very nice person but moves incredibly fast there is no work for lecture but the lab proj sucks in seminar there is a lot of uneccesary busy work
If you need help, go to Hunter. I found her to be very helpful when I needed some clearing up. Tests are not by any means easy.
This class is great. Although it does get a little boring at times. Keep up with the notes and you will do fine. There are no surprises when it comes to her tests or quizes. She gives bonus points for each unit that help your grade out alot.
Gives very informative lecture notes. Nice One on one but can be kinda nasty to a group...Much rather would have her for Lab in small group setting
Excellent prof. Very detail oriented and her passion for her students to succeed is apparant in her attitude>!
its been a long time, but Shonah was one of the better profs I have ever had. Loves her students and was always willing to help.
Classs was hard, but i'm not a science major! It wasn't bad, but she didn't make it any better that I had to take the class. If you work you can get a B you slack off and you're screwed.

Do not dare ask a question! She'll bite your head off. And if she is reading announcements don't ask about what is #2 on her list because she's not there yet!
It is so hot in the planetarium and she turns off the dang fan!
Stay on top of studying and you wont have a problem....See her AFTER class if you have a question. She's more than happy to help you then.
very nice lady, cool class, fun labs
The BEST teacher at LHU. Willing to help you if you go to her. Will do anything to help you get ahead. You need to do your part and she will do her part. Wonderful teacher, cannot wait to take her again.
She expects a lot from her students and absolutely demands respect at all times. She a nice person to those who she wants to be nice to. Her lecture is easy to follow. Sometimes she goes into too much detail and people stop listening. Her exams are challenging so study. Overall, she is a good prof, but not for someone that doesn't work.
write down every single word she says in class. i think her tests are completely unfair because she makes the questions as unclear as possible. and only about 5 of the questions on the test will come right out of her mouth in class. as for the others, good luck reading through her **** double negative and never before seen material. get a tutor
Lectures are boring at times but she is a very nice professor and helpful is you pursue it. Know the text and the subject and you will do fine.
She does not care about her students
Dr. Hunter is a great teacher. She's a little rough on her freshmen classes, but her upper level classes are great. She requires a lot and her classes are a lot of work but you learn a lot and have a good time.
Attendance isn't mandatory but if you skip, you'll be lost. Lecture wasn't that bad but it was boring at times & she doens't like interruptions. She seems mean at first but if you talk to her and get to know her she'll help you in any way possible. Her tests are very tricky because she words them so you can't guess and get it right-you HAVE to study.
the class is challenging and probably hard for those not interested, the material is simple, however her questions are very intricate and you must analyze each one, for instance I new a chapter inside and out perfectly and came test time I was stumped on quite a few. Ask questions, her answer may reveal how she may word a question on a test/quiz.
She was a great professor, answering questions after class was no problem. Tests are very hard, because you have to analyze every single word in every question. Reading the question takes way more time than thinking of the answer. I got an A for the class, the final absoluetly kicked my ass for every second of it, the wording of the questions, bad
Lectures are bearable, tests are hard. They are very wordy and in depth.
she was an amazing professor. She is very willing to help if you are having problems. she does have very hard exams and quizes, but ask a lot of questions and read and pay attention and you'll be fine. this is not a class for slackers though
The class is hard and you have to study alot. She is helpful if you ask. She likes birds this is a good way to suck up which helps. Exams are very hard you have to know every detail of the material.
Dr. Hunter where to begin, she is a absolutely brilliant professor at what she does, but that is also her flaw, sometimes she talks a bit above your level. The lecture is easy just sit and take notes. The quizes are not bad just read the chapter/s. The test are where you get the axe. I never understood how people did well on them. Overall a ok prof
Hunter's Principles of Bio is a very very very boring lecture! Her class is rough and you must study your butt off. Don't be fooled by her, she is actually a very approachable prof, the problem is the class size.
She is a great and caring professor. Her classes are extremely hard, and you have to work to pull even an average grade. She is willing to help you, and if you pay attention and study, you should do fine. A word of warning. The tests are EXTREMELY hard.A great prof, I'm taking her for my next class.
great teacher but hates slackers. Because of this her tests are geared toward kicking the weak out. In the process though she brings down the grades of everyone else. The tests are very very hard and you need to study alot just to pull average grades. Also she doesn't believe in technology so we don't have slides and you can't check your grades.
Forget all the negative comments--Dr. Hunter is a wonderful professor. Her tests require a mastery of the material to earn an A, but she is very fair and if you do the work, you will do fine. After all, it is college and there should be standards. I learned so much this past semester; Dr. H is an excellent professor!!
Dr. Hunter is very helpful if you approach her respectfully.
I love Dr. Hunter! I think she is a wonderful teacher and very enthusiastic about bio. I didn't think her exams were that hard, got A's on all. Had her for lab, she grades very hard, but its college and it should be challenging. I heard that she was mean and was scared to take her, but she was one of my fav professors. I recommend taking her.
Dr. Hunter needs to retake a grammar class or two. She is a really smart prof, but the tests are ridiculous. If you're a slacker, this class is going to be one of the hardest. She doesn't like technology, so a lot of the times, her lectures are based on old facts. You need to work 10X harder in this class than any other that you would have.
Dr. Hunter is a strict teacher. Shes very straight forward with her note. Her quizes and tests are ment to trick you, and for the most part, they will. Sign up for a tutor ASAP.Dont rely on her lecture notes because they'll confuse you. One of the best ways to do well on her tests and quizes is to learn how to understand PSSA/SAT style questions.
her notes do not follow any order and are just bits and pieces...
Really tough class. You have to study and read the book to do good.
Gives notes in a clear, orderly manner. Rarely assigns textbook reading (but points out when you need to read something for a quiz or exam). Quizzes and exams are very wordy and tricky; you can't just memorize word lists, you really have to understand the topics. If you study and come prepared, you will do well, but don't expect an easy A.
Dr. Hunter is one of the best profs I have ever had, and definitely one of the gems at LHU. She is challenging, but fair. She is always willing to help and her teaching style is effective. Her notes are great and I learned a lot in her class and lab.
One of the best professors at Lock Haven. Field Ecology was a great class. It is a good amount of work, but if you put in the effort it all shows and pays off. She's always willing to help you and likes to talk about todays modern environmental issues in class. Overall a great professor and great class!
Her class is pretty tricky. You'll need to study to do well. Be prepared to read the book and take notes BEFORE class lectures to do very well. Overall, informative class, fair teacher. Quizes and tests are worded difficulty to gauge understanding.
tests/quizzes are tricky. GO ASK HER FOR HELP IF YOU ARE STRUGGLING! it helps so much! read the book. and study notes. understand concepts backwards and forwards for studying
Great Professor who loves to answer any questions you may have. Study hard and review everyday and you won't have a problem. She's fair and gives you what you deserve. No easy A though.
Very nice teacher! She can be kind of cocky sometimes if you ask her a "stupid" question. But her test are okay, but you HAVE TO STUDY!!You cannot just pass this class by cramming information before a test.
I'm not sure why everyone is stating that she is a great teacher. She is actually one of the WORST professors and LHU. She is extremely cocky and rude. There was a girl who ran out of her class crying the other week because she was so rude to her. I do not recommend enlisting in her courses. Very rude and not helpful.
She screams at you if you leave early or ask a stupid question because you missed something. Her tests are all "most correct" or "which is incorrect" so it's really a test that tries to trick you. Studying helps to a degree but theres a lot of questions that are extremely detailed orientated, like there will be one word that separates right/wrong.
She is one of the worst professors I have ever had she can't answer a question in class. She claims she has to be in "chemistry mode" to answer a biology question. Her Exams are so confusing and she tries to make you fail her Exams with having the "most correct or incorrect" answer she puts info on the exams that was not even taught in class.
5 quizzes... always talk about ATP...
I had Dr. Hunter for bio lab and lecture. In lecture, she is tough and her exams are difficult. you MUST study consistantly throughout the semester. cramming will NOT work. In lab, she was very friendly and helpful. She is a nice person, just a difficult professor.
It is very hard to get an A in her course. Exams and quizes are tricky and hard to get through, and you must study the materials daily in order to follow. In her website, there are 20 lists of what you needed to get an A for the course. DO THEM ALL. I got an A for the course by doing so. If you can survive this course, you can surviveANYthing.
This is less of a 'class specific' review and a general review of Dr. Hunter as a professor. She's exceedingly dedicated and helpful and very knowledgable. Everyone could benefit from taking even one of her classes. I've taken them all and there's a lot of work but you'll take more from it than most other classes at this university.
Truth is you gotta bust your rear end in this class. She will cover notes fairly quickly. You gotta keep up cause if you don't its gonna snowball and your grade will go down fast. Very helpful, but she expects you to know everything she says. She expects you to study an hr and a half per lecture. I laughed, but you will need it, no lie.
You'll probably learn more in this class than any other, but you'll definitely have to work for it. Her notes and lectures are extremely clear, and are critical to understanding the material and passing exams. Exams are worded difficulty to gauge understanding. Study consistently and efficiently and you should do well.
What words do I use to describe Dr. Hunter? Passionate, engaged, knowledgeable, helpful, and tough but fair. She expects you to pull your weight, follow her guidelines on how to do well, and think matters through without blindly accepting. She is an excellent role model and will make you think you are capable of awesome tasks in life!
Hunter is VERY passionate. Biol106 was tough as a freshman. It requires a lot of studying out side of class and learning how you learn. A lot of the material is abstract because you can't exactly see everything and how it all works together. She tries her best to make sure everyone follows along. DO NOT goof off or use your cellphone in her class!
She really shows her love of birds in this course. The first test was very hard, but the second two were VERY easy. The final was a lot from the first exam but doable. The content in this course is a lot more straight forward and easy to understand. Will consider taking Hunter in the future!
Dr. Hunter is a wonderful and caring professor. She really wants her students to do well, but they have to earn it. If you study enough you will do well! Lab's are interesting and arent that difficult.
She is a fair teacher. She gives so much help outside class. She is clear on what is expected and when and how it is graded. Gives perfectly clear notes. If you go to class, you should have no problem. Material can be tricky but she tries her best. Go to class, she does in class participation. You will always know when quizzes and exams are.
All around Dr H is fab, but her exams are wordy and a little tricky. She's super nice and wants everyone to do well-- you must work for it. There's a little wiggle room in attendance but it is imperative that you attend as much as possible.
Dr. Hunter is an awesome professor! This class is tough and more application based but it prepares you to use this material. The lectures are packed with information, but it is imperative to show up. If you aren't doing great, make sure to schedule a meeting during office hours because it will REALLY help! Her tests are wordy and information filled
Truly good professor. She knows the information well like any professor should and she's also concerned for your well-being. She's also an amazing lab teacher, very thorough and helps any way that she can.
Dr. Hunter is a nice professor, but her class is a GPA killer. Biology has always been one of my favorite classes and i didm't think i would struggle in college. Boy was i wrong. Hunter's exams are very wordy and confusing. All of her questions have 2 answers that seem right, and you have to pick the best one. Study study study!!!!
A lot of people dont like Dr. Hunter. But I really enjoy her class. She is hard and it is tough for her to teach everything in detail with only a 50min lecture 2 days a week. Pay attention. Oh, and no cell phones.
You can tell that Dr. Hunter REALLY loves biology. She's a very nice woman, but I had her for lecture and she used an old projector and wrote notes in the margins of the note sheet, it was really difficult to read a lot of times so you had to keep up with what she was saying. Overall as long as you pay attention in lecture it is easy to get a B.
Take advantage of the 5 Point extra credit assignments, and go to tutoring as much as possible.
Dr. Hunter is a great professor. She explains things very well, and her notes are very organized. The lecture portion was great and easily graded on a need to know basis. However lab is difficult and requires you to be able to proficiently use equipment during experiments. make sure you know how answer her quiz and exam questions!
Not a fan, and have never felt more like "just a number." Though she does a decent job of making her notes available and clear, she makes her tests much harder than necessary by adding useless words to confuse you into getting the question wrong.
Dr. Hunter is hard to please. At the 400 level, she is a tough grader but also fair. She gives feedback on all writing assignments which is useful. Ornithology is very intense, don't take it if you aren't prepared to study and have more assignments than the usual bio class.
DR. Hunter is a great professor, very organized. The class is a good amount of work but again this is a Science class. Take advantage of the 5 point extra credit opportunities per test.
Dr. Hunter is a great professor that genuinely cares about her students and will go out of her way to help to the best of her ability. Although the class is relatively difficult, if you study her notes thoroughly and take advantage of the bonus essays she offers for each unit, you should have no problem doing well. POB 1 & 2 are great classes!
Dr. Hunter is a great professor and puts a lot of effort into her students. She generally wants her students to do well, and she gives extra credit opportunities that can help you out...a lot. Her tests are tough. Plain and simple, she makes you earn your grade; lots of studying will be put into the tests (if you want to do well).
Her tests are the hardest I ever took, but she cares a lot about her students. Be ready to sit through a lecture everyday and take notes the entire time.
She's a great professor. Her lectures are clear and organized. The book is a great reference tool and actually matches what she says. Exams are hard but she gives you clear guidelines of what to study. She is pretty quick to get grades back too. And she is willing to work with you so you can succeed, all you need to do is make an effort and ask.
Exams are very hard but there is lots of easy points in the class. She is very organized and grades extremely quick. The class does require quite a bit of studying for a 100 class.
Great professor! Goes slow in lecture (shows you exactly what to write down on the slides/notes) and doesn't cover an overwhelming amount of material on each exam. Exams can be a little hard if you don't study at all. She assigns a lot of online homework as well which helps with learning the material but make sure to stay on top of the due dates!
Dr. Hunter is a very educated woman and I respect her for that, however she is a very petty and passive aggressive woman. When you walk into class, you never know if she will snap at you, for something little or be your best friend. She targets students and will make the classroom a stressful environment. Avoid her like the plague
Dr. Hunter has a teaching style that isn't for everyone, but I really enjoyed the structure. She goes over everything really well and you do a lot of textbook work (for homework). Be sure to print out the power points to write notes on, or else it'll be difficult to study for exams. Also, don't be on your phone, she will call you out!
Dr. Hunter is a great prof! She gives you every single tool you need to succeed in her class. Her class is definitely challenging, but if you put in the effort she will notice. Print out all of the slides before class it helps to take notes on them. Complete her study questions in depth(from the slides). It mirrors her exams.
She will act like she cares but she does not. Her exams are worded weirdly and you have to select the incorrect answers, and the wording just makes it difficult.
Dr. Hunter is my advisor outside of class and I really like her then, but as a professor, not so much. There have been multiple occasions where she makes no sense whatsoever and she goes way too fast in class. Also, if you happen to have her for lab, switch. It was the worst lab I have ever been in. We only covered each topic once.
Dr. Hunters class is by far the hardest class I've taken to this point. Her tests and quiz are much harder than they need to be. She often uses which of these is incorrect or which of these is the most correct. She is very strict in lecture, much like a high school professor. Expect to study a lot and don't expect to get an easy A.
If you do not understand the material, do not study, or read exam questions thoroughly you will not pass this class. Make sure you are understanding the material! If you don't then she is definitely willing to help in any way, also flexible with making up quizzes. Be sure to keep up on your learn smarts!!
Dr. Hunter is really willing to work with students. She does a really great job of easing students in to a science major. The class itself is really well structured. There is homework and attendance is taken. Exams can be difficult but extra credit is available for each exam.
I love biology, and am a bio major and I had a difficult time with it. Be prepared to study A LOT. The exams are much harder than they need to be. The questions are worded confusingly and have to be reread 5 times. She does not give passes for late assignments. Dr. Shonah is a sweetheart though. I took this class online during quarantine.
Dr hunter is average she just teaches by going through powerpoints and filling it in with you following along. nothing really special but she is nice and receptive to questions. its a simple class i would say study for 3 ish days before exams and youll get As.
Dr. Hunter is a sweetheart and will always meet students for help after class. She is clear about everything to expect for this course and is very well organized when it comes to teaching. Her exams can be difficult but it's not something people can't learn to excel at. There are a lot of "which statement is incorrect" but otherwise they are good.
Dr. Hunter is a lovely person and is attentive to her students. There are many exams, and they are tough, be prepared for A LOT of homework. I do recommend her, but be ready to be busy.
I had Dr. Hunter for lecture. She goes extremely fast and most of the time lectures are not super engaging. MUST print out the power points to take notes, can be difficult to make sense of her notes without it. And when she says to read the sections in the book, DO IT. Test and quiz ?s worded very weird.
Professor Hunter has been a caring and intelligent scientist who will be missed by Lock Haven University. She's always willing to help and very encouraging. Her tests are hard, but her lectures are well-explained. If you take notes and pay attention, you will be okay.
