Sometimes it's hard to understand what she is saying, but she is nice. The tests are pretty hard, she even admitted in class that they really try to trick you. There is online hw but she usually ends up extending the due date. Also she has lecture participation pts so make sure you go to class b/c it random :/
She is a really really really good teacher. She does have lecture points, so make sure you go to class because they are random. The first test is insanely difficult, so if you fail it, do not worry because the other tests in my opinion were simple
She is a very nice person, but not a great teacher. I thought the class was easy because I had a great TA and the material was not hard to understand if you took precalc in high school. She also does give a lot of extra credit so it is a pretty easy A.
She is nice like many have said but her accent, soft voice, large class size (like 500) and poor (or lack of) explanations make the lectures almost useless, but you have to for points that are random. I started going to Hodge's lectures and test reviews and learned much more. It also helps if you go to TZ.
She makes AMAZING lecture notes, but you must attend class to fill in the blanks, and there are several attendance quizzes. I never opened the book once, but I had a really tough precalc teacher in high school.
Dr. Huang is sooo cute and nice. Many people say her accent is hard to understand, but that isn't the case at all. The class itself is pretty challenging, just make sure you do the optional homework problems to reinforce information. I found the textbook to help me a lot.
Pre-cal is difficult. Study intensive. Huang overall is an average professor, very straight forward. Rely more on the TA to help with your understanding
She overall was a good teacher, her notes were really good. However, very tricky tests but if you study you will do fine. Also, do all of the recommended homework assignments they help alot.
She certainly isnt easy, and you get used to the accent eventually. I recommend doing the "optional" book work if you are having trouble. My test average went up about 10% after I started doing that. Not easy, but for some reason everyone forgets the precalc we did in high school and THATS what makes it hard, not her.
It is an extremely challenging class which you MUST keep up with. This was actually my downfall...that I didn't keep up with the suggested hw. Her lecture notes are helpful, but still follow the text, but if you can stay away from her at all costs...she's not helpful at all! When I went in for her office hours, she didn't seem that into helpin me.
Somewhat challenging and difficult to understand at first but you get used to her quickly and do learn. It is not an easy A (3/4 exams, 1 final, webassign, quizzes, lecture points) but if you prepare well (go over lecture notes, do textbook problems, etc.) for the exams and make sure to get all participation and homework points, it is not too bad.
Dr. Huang is really nice, but she made the class a lot harder than it should/could have been. Her accent is thick, which took me a while to get used to! Also, she has a hard time controlling behavior that is inevitable in a huge lecture hall full of freshman who don't really care about the subject. Her tests are also unreasonably hard, trust me!
The professor is really nice, but it is very hard to understand her because of her accent. Her notes are very good though. There is another professor teaching this class I think, and if you can get him, then you should.
While admittedly her accent was hard to get used to, it didn't really detract from her teaching ability. Her lecture notes were very informative and helped immensely on the tests. She becomes flustered though while trying to control such a large lecture hall.
Her accent is not that hard to understand, people exaggerate since they are getting such low grades. I had an a on all tests except I flunked the final since I only studied for chm,so study for the final and you'll be fine.never did any book work and was fine. Its really not a hard class at all unless your bad at math.Take her, she writes the tests
Go to lecture, take notes, sit in front and stop complaining about an accent, half the teachers here have them. TZ helps a lot too, they make sure I know what I need to know before each exam. Well worth it.
Her accent, mispronunciations of words, and difficulty keeping control of the class is enough to provide entertainment for u in lecture. Basically go to enough lectures for the points and buy her book of notes prior to going. Copy what she says and read it later. Go to tutorzone and practice old tests and your solid. Just study well for the final
Huang is truly a unique teacher. At first, it is difficult to understand her English (due to the accent) but after the first week things get much better. She knows her stuff and has no problem assisting students during her office hours. Get her lecture book and go to class! Her lectures are important for passing the tests and the class.
She knows her stuff and tries to teach you it in class, but what she teaches in class and what is on the test are two different things. Her tests include questions at a level that is way above what she teaches in class. I understand everything she does in class, but still do horrible on the exams. Tutoring Zone does help though.
This was the worst class ever for me.
notes are great but review for exam is way easier then actually exam so I was always underprepared
She is a great teacher with very easy to understand notes. All of the bad ratings are from people who are incapable of doing well in a math course. The tests are moderately difficult but if you understand the concepts you should be fine. She is willing to help and a very sweet lady.
She talks in a thick accent and can be hard to understand sometimes.Sometimes her explanations make you think dirty thoughts (just wait til she says "negative").Other then that her class is pretty thick. Her notes are amazing but the tests come out of left field and hit u like a semi.I wouldn't recommend taking it unless u want to study ur butt off.
Huang is a very dedicated teacher, however her lectures are no way relevant to the tests. The tests are extremely difficult and are made to weed out students who go to pre-calc for the easy A, as a result they screw the kids over who actually need the class. It is unfair and it makes your life stressful as hell. Good luck if you take and learn chin
This class is very hard. You have to study a lot and you would think it was easier because of taking precal in highschool. She gives very good notes and my T.A. had a stronger accent than her so that didnt make it any better. If you do take this class sign up for private tutoring and stay on top of hmwk and lecture quizzes.
Work in class, and quizzes, and homework resemble NOTHING that is tested on the exam. Extremely frustrating.
This class was mind-numbingly easy. I literally did none of the homework and lost all of the points that we get from homework, but still got a ridiculously high A. If you're not able to do well in this class, then you should probably just drop out of UF.
Take Huang for MAC1147. Her exams can be difficult but she tells you in class which ones are tricky. She writes the exams so you'd do best by taking her. You really need to pay attention to her lectures though! I studied her notes and hit up tutoringzone for every exam now I'm doing great. :) (She's really nice also).
horrible teacher. you wont have an option though. like 90% of the people in this class have her. her lectures are NOTHING like her tests. the tests are extremely difficult. study, and go to tutoring zone. and learn chinese. instead of the function of negative one, she says "the fu*ktion of naked one is..." it is absolutely ridiculous.
Everyone who is complaining about Huang probably failed because she was EASY. Her tests are tricky but you can catch them if you actually study and do your hw go to lecture etc. etc. Obviously you have to work for it... its COLLEGE hello? As far as her accent, its hard at first, but you get used to it and her lectures are VERY helpful.
Great Teacher! If you go to class, do your homework, and do the review (which is harder then the actual test) then you will be fine. Don't listen to people that didn't like her because they are the ones who didn't pay attention in class or even go to class. Again, Shu is great and I highly recommend her
HARD CLASS. I aced precalc in high school and needed this for my major, and it was a struggle for me. Too much work and the reviews are NOTHING like the exams!! Exams are ridiculously hard and tricky.
She does have an accent, but it's easy to look past it after the first couple of classes. She really knows her stuff, and she's good at communicating different math concepts. The homework is pretty tedious and annoying, but that's probably the only major downfall to taking this class with her.
she does have an accent but u can understand her. the class isn't that bad. go to lecture and do the hw and you will do fine. if u don't understand something just ask her and she will explain it. just make sure to know your stuff. its not an easy class but not a hard one either.
I think people are rating her bad because she is tough. Her accent is fairly easy to get past after a week, and she's pretty nice in class. DO THE REVIEWS SHE POSTS, homework, attend class, and study; you will do well. She can be brutal on her tests, but her point system in the class is very fair. My only beef is all the material costs!
Her accent is a little strong but understandable. Test and quizzes were fair. very nice & gave bonus quizzes which can really help in the end. the only thing I didn't like was she writes really fast so i struggle to keep up with notes sometimes. That really didn't matter though because they are almost the same as the examples in the book.
Differential equations gets a bad rap at UF, but Huang is an excellent teacher, and her class was beyond fair. Quizzes were just like the homework, and exams were just like the quizzes. Try to get her for diff. eq. for the easy A! And her accent is strong, but attend class. She gives random bonus points, and her notes really help.
TutoringZone all the way, Zach saved me on Exam 1, the average was around a 60. Mine = 90.
Such a nice person. The class isn't difficult if you pay attention in class and do the homework. If you have a question, don't be afraid to ask her about it. She is really helpful. Go to her class! She made me enjoy math.
GREAT PROFESSOR! She is willing to help if you ask any question! Just don't make so much noise when she is teaching. she hates that! I would like to have her for Calc 1.
Great! Her notes and explanations are very clear, and her tests are straightforward and fair. Usually gives extra credit on the tests. Go to every class and discussion. She goes very quickly in lecture so make sure you keep up. Very helpful also, make sure you ask for help if you need it. I got an A.
She has an interesting accent. During the first week it was almost incomprehensible. But you get use to it after a while. Definitely go to Tutoring Zone, do the reviews, and the homeworks. Also, go to class. Clicker points can be very helpful.
Hard class but if you study, you can definately get an A. I did but spent hours on HW and studying for the exams. She is SUPER nice and sweet and very helpful. Easier and cheaper to buy the online book than the textbook and student manual.
Her accent is crazy but it was adorable for a short, innocent looking Chinese lady :] Class was extremely difficult though and it DEFINITELY didn't have to be! Pre-calc was never this hard in high school... USE TUTORINGZONE IF YOU KNOW WHAT'S GOOD FOR YOU!
The class was not fantastic but doable. Make sure you take advantage of the easy points in quizzes, webassign, homework and attendance. They really add up in the end. Her test question are horrible though, they dont really relate well to the examples she gives in class or for homework. Go to TUTORING ZONE from the first test they help so much!
Overall a doable class. Many of my friends struggled, whereas I did not study very much and still got an A.
The multiple choice on her tests are going to kill you. They're ridiculously hard and tricky. However, take advantage of the tear-off that your TA grades. I always got full points. Make sure to get easy points like attendance, homework, and quizzes. Buy the note binder thing! I didn't and regret it. The final is MC so get points while you can!
Dont think that because you aced high school precal you will ace uf precal!! easy to get a good grade though if you get every single point you can in webassign, quizzes, hw and participation. I got F, F, C and B on the exams and B on the final and ended with a B in her class.
It seems like she tests you on things that you haven't really gone over in class. Plus, she's not clear when she speaks, so you really have to listen.
this class is very time consuming. MAC 1140 is a joke compared to MAC 1147; all because it goes at a faster pace plus the trig. part ... I got an A, but it took a lot of work to get it. If you aren't good at trig. or math overall take MAC 1140 ... it's easier... I know a lot of ppl. who got As on that class; the test aren't that tricky
cute lady but very hard to understand. You might get a TA who is even harder to understand in which case try to switch immediately! Exams are not like the homework and require an overall knowledge of the material. Do all the extra fluff work like homeworks and quizzes because it is just a race for points.Take all the practice exams possible and TZ
HW did not relate that much to exams, which were EXTREMELY tricky and hard. I did all hw problems, tutor zone +++ and got a C in the class. quizzes were fairly easy, and webassign asked for the stupidest format of answers which resulted in some lost points. Overall: horrible class. I was so fed up in the end. 2 weeks studying and i would get a C.
Her tests weren't that difficult. The tests are very tricky in that if you make a little error, the wrong choice is listed. Homework is easy and so are quizzes. I didn't got to TZ and still got an A+ so it's possible. Some questions from old exams and homework are on the tests, but you have to think outside of the box. Don't make dumb mistakes.
This woman is extremely bright and easy to understand. I absolutely hate math, but her class was pretty enjoyable. THERE IS SOOO MUCH HOMEWORK, but the reason she structures her class as such is to push her students to do well. She offers quite a bit of extra credit and is very helpful. She was a great professor for my pre-calc class.
GET OUT. Take this class at a community college if you can. Not worth the stress, of trying to understand her, doing text and webassign homework that had nothing to do with her exams. GET OUT.
This class killed my GPA my first semester. If you don't need it, skip it. Make sure you get a good TA, I had Ross and she was amazing. However, I did poorly in the class. It is heavily based on exams which seems to be a trend at UF. Exams are nearly impossible, even Tutoring Zone didn't help me one bit. Huang is very hard to understand.
She is an excellent teacher and always ready to help students. Please do not go to tutorzone. They do not know real math. My instructor knows the subject better than them. If the guys in tutorzone are really good why they do not apply professorship at UF.
There is no MAC2013 at UF, the previous poster is a complete TROLL! Huang is an okay professor, she's nothing worth raving about. I went to TZ and I found it helpful, definitely worth it.
Quite literally the worst.
Awesome professor. She may be a little hard to understand sometimes, but it's not like she is incomprehensible. It's more funny than anything else. She does her best to help students and explains thing thoroughly. She makes her expectations clear from day one and if you follow them, you will do great in the course.
Terrible teacher
shes a good teacher... extremely helpful during office hours .... shop around for TA's I have the best TA but i have heard of really bad ones any way this class is not that bad :) good luck
Tough class... Don't fall behind, it's really tough to catch up... All in all, she's a sweetheart and only wants the best for you and is willing to answer any questions you may have... Be careful with your TA's, though, mine was by far the worst one there, no help at all...
Too big a class. You definitely feel like a number, as hard as she tries to be helpful it just isn't enough. Language barriers and tricky tests exacerbate the problem. Definitely a nice lady though.
She is absolutely adorable and has a laugh and look that will melt your heart, but do not be fooled my friends she is a tricky woman. I am honestly not a math person, not horrible at it, just don't like it and this class was very difficult for me. Take advantage of the quizzes and web assign, also join study edge ASAP!! The tests are brutal.
She is an awesome teacher, and an extremely kind person. Class can be difficult, but if you go to lecture and complete hw, quizzes, and webassign well, the exams are not too difficult. Attendance is mandatory because she uses clicker questions. Best math professor I have had!
The language barrier creates a problem initially. I'd already taken this course in high school so I was familiar with the material that would be taught, but for anyone else, I feel that the material would be very hard. The tests are really difficult, STUDY HARD!
I thought Shu was a great teacher. She is very straightforward and teaches you what you need to know. She does a fair amount of examples. She used the HITT system in my class to ensure regular attendance, but you could definitely get away with missing a few lectures if you wanted/needed to, but I personally didn't miss a lecture.
While I'm not very interested in math, I can still do it. That being said, this class has been my worst experience to date. Prof. Huang is a really nice and adorable woman and she tries to teach so that you understand. However, her thick accent and quick pace when covering notes makes this difficult. Add to that 400+ people and it's pretty brutal.
Dr.Huang is a very nice person, she just doesn't teach very well.I took AP calc AB in high school and still found this class tough. TAKE THE PRACTICE EXAMS - that is the key to doing well on tests (which are usually modeled after the old ones)
Her accent is NOT as bad as people make it seem! Completely understandable. The class isn't hard, go to class and have the notes printed and I think it is pretty easy to understand. There are bonus points on every test including the final, and overall not too tough. If you have trouble, though, I would suggest Study Edge.
She's a sweetheart but her tests are more or less a beating. She basically has no remorse for the students while she's making the tests.
Go to class and print off the notes and copy along with her and you will not have a problem keeping up with her. She does have an accent but it does not interfere with her communication. Do your homework's and web assigns. The class is obviously tough because it is calculus but I thought she was a good teacher.
As everyone says, Dr. Huang is a sweet person but she isn't so sweet while creating the exams with the other professors. Practicing the previous exams is your best bet (and Study Edge) but she makes lessons much more confusing than they need to be. She is even less sweet at the end of the semester when people ask for grade bumps. MAC2311 isn't fun.
Professor Huang is really a sweetheart. She is really nice and tries for you to understand the material. She does have an accent, but it is very understandable. That being said, the tests are not that easy. Usually she posts a review about a week before the exam, DO THEM. It is very helpful to prepare for the exam. Old exams are also helpful.
Her tests are BRUTAL. The notes really are not helpful, for either the homework, nor the exams. I ended up having to drop the course, because it requires a much better understanding of complex math than what I have. Tests are VERY TRIG HEAVY. If you can, take the course somewhere else and have the credit transferred.
Her accent can be very annoying but she is very nice, but she is one of the worst professors I've ever had. She isn't helpful in office hours. Study Edge will become your best friend. I got 100% on the tests because of it.
Hard to understand her accent and her office hours aren't very helpful. Study Edge will be your new best friend.
Tests are kind-of easy (ironically, the hardest part is the algebra involved). The homework takes around two hours every other day, and don’t fall behind. I got a 5 on the AP calc AB exam, and got an A- because I was an irresponsible freshman. Very unclear with lectures though, (says “do you see that” every 5 seconds, rushes thru everything).
Dr. Huang is incredibly sweet and nice. You can tell she cares a lot about her students. In lecture, she explains things very clearly and leaves nothing for students to guess on in homework (she always gives examples of different problem types). I really recommend her.
Tough class. Thank God for Study Edge!
Class material wasn't complicated but the problems given really test your knowledge of the material. The grade you get is what work you put into it (i.e keeping up with homework, doing problems, etc). Tests are tough but doable, take the practice tests. Don't think study edge is mandatory, try without it and get it if you really need it (Save $$!)
Calc is hard. But Dr. Huang made it a little more bearable. She has an accent but if you are paying attention, she is not that hard to understand. She's very helpful during office hours, just get on her good side and she'll be one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet. GO TO CLASS. Every. Point. Matters. Those attendance points might save you.
I ended up getting an A in this class just because I took AP calc AB and BC(got 5's on both exams). She went over the lectures too fast and made me confused but thankfully I did well on the exams because I learned calc in high school. So, you should get other professor who can actually teach you if you don't have any background in calc.
Took this course spring 2014 and it's MUCH easier in comparison to fall. Go to class and pay attention to all the problems she does. Master her exam review, study edge problems and the textbook problems. Her exams weren't that bad to me considering I did every problem I could. Never took calc my life and got an A in this course! She's so sweet!
Dr. Huang is a sweet teacher but her exams are pretty tough. Study Edge definitely helped out! I wish I would've done her reviews because sometimes the questions you least expect to be on the test, are on there. Make sure to go to lecture to get those clicker points! She does give extra credit points so she won't round and I needed a .7 for a B.
I have neer taken calculus before and this was my very first experience of it. So far we have had two exams and they were absolutely brutal. I feel like getting a C even, is an accomplishment in this class. I don't like that I am taking the same exam as engineers. The class is way too fast for someone like me and the tests are plain ridiculous.
She is super awesome and nice, but she has a very thick accent. Her exams are DIFFICULT, and she will try to trick you so be ready to be attacked from every angle with her exams. She does offer extra credit so take advantage if given the opportunity.
Her lectures aren't that difficult to understand. Her tests are extremely tricky.
The concepts in the class are not difficult, what makes it difficult is the time frame that it is taught in. The exams are extremely tricky. Please do not take this class if it's the 1st math class you are about to take at UF. You will not do well, in fact you will do so poorly you will end up crying in your professors office. Stay away!!!
Huang is really nice and sweet and her lectures are pretty clear. However, her tests are really tricky. You will get the more difficult questions on the exams, as oppossed to the easier questions seen in lecture. The best way to study for this class is to do the textbook homework, so you get used to the trickiness in the math problems.
Took Mac2311 my freshman fall and got an A. I went to class, did my homework, went to discussion (weekly quizzes), but MOST IMPORTANTLY took every practice exam i could find. Also, study edge was a big help. I put the time in and got an A. Took AP CALC AB in high school and got a 1. You got this! Class has required attendance due to clicker points
Professor Huang is a WONDERFUL lady who really wants to be there for her students. She goes out of her way to make herself available when we need help. She does give hard homework (WebAssign) to make sure we're prepared for the exam... and the exams can be very tricky. But overall, I would take her again. She makes sure things are clear. Great lady
Dr. Huang is really great. There are some essentials to passing her class. -Get all your points early so you're not struggling -Do the reviews, and all the practice problems Overall she is a nice lady, who is willing to help if you ask for it. She has a great personality. Personally, she is really hot (I'd bang), and funny in a quirky way.
Her lectures really do help, but I most recommend getting additional help. Take every practice exam (the more recent the better). She has a writing style for her exams and the more you practice the better you will do. You have to work for your grade but the points system is pretty fair for the class. She is very smart, sweet and willing to help.
Very good teacher. Tries to trick you on exams though. Try to do alot of practice problems to prepare for test! ITS NOT IMPOSSIBLE TO GET AN A!! Just work for it!
Dr. Huang was a very tricky teacher. She moved at such a ridiculously fast rate during class that it forced you to write now and ask questions later. This made it very hard when studying your notes because you don't remember how you did many of the steps to problems. However if you go to her during office hours, she is equally as unhelpful.
She's an amazing lecturer. She wasn't my assigned professor but I watched all of her lectures online. In my opinion she's the best to teach you Calc 1. I had already taken Calc in highschool, so I knew what I was doing and I can tell you that Huang explains everything in the easiest way possible. She's energetic and loves teaching.
She is a really good professor. First week was tough because I did not understand her accent but I got used to it really fast and she know what she is doing. If you need help she definitely is there for you. She is also really nice. I did bad on the final. Hard tests.
Huang was a fantastic lecturer. All of the complaints that she went too fast or wasn't clear enough were from people that didn't pay attention at all because she repeatedly mentions that ALL of her lectures are online and can be replayed as many times as necessary for clarity. She will also answer any math question (even the homework) you give her.
I love this professor. Although I didn't have her, I watched her lectures after my own teacher's so that I could get more clarity. She knows how to teach students that are just learning, which isn't common for teachers at UF, and she deserves the recognition she gets. I hope to have her when I take Calc 3.
She's a sweet, incredibly smart lady... but she's too smart. Goes extremely fast, so most of the time, you'll find yourself scrambling to try and copy her notes instead of actually absorbing the information. She also tests thoroughly on exams - they're not easy. Don't really see how I would've succeeded without StudyEdge in all honesty.
I had to drop this class because she decided to make her third test very hard. She specifically said "since you guys did well on the first two, I made the third one hard." Well, while everyone else did good on the first two, I didn't, but I was holding on. The she drops this test on the day before the drop deadline.
Dr. Huang is absolutely amazing. I highly suggest her for both MAC2312 and MAC2311.
Huang is a great professor. Most importantly her exams are fair and an accurate reflection of the homework. Gives a ton of extra credit so if you don't do well on an exam you won't be screwed.
I had Dr. Huang for Calc 1 and now for calc 2. She's an awesome lecturer and i just love her accent. Just like for calc 1, her test are TOUGH, so study hard. Definitely not impossible to get an A, just work for it. Hope to have her for diffy Q or Calc 3!
Huang was very clear, and although fast-paced like many students say, gives extra help wherever you need it. I managed to get an A in this course, and if I can do it, so can you. I went from getting a B- in Calculus 1 (because I skipped class a lot) to an A in Calculus 2 (I rarely missed a lecture). Going to EVERY lecture is key! Good luck!
Huang is great! The workload is pretty intense and you have to be prepared to stay focused in this class almost every day. The test are easy if you study. But make sure to not slack off on quizzes because they can influence your overall grade more than you think!
Dr. Huang's exams are made to trick you. They're designed to ensure that you have learned all the material both in lectures and out. There was a general consensus that the final exam for fall 2015 was utterly impossible, but the others were completely doable, so stock up on those points.
This woman is hilarious. Extremely good at helping you understand what you don't know. Make sure you sit up front so you can ask questions!
I loved Professor Huang. I had her for both MAC 2311 & MAC 2312. I thought she was a great teacher & her tests were very fair. She went in depth in her lectures & her tests never had anything that she hadn't prepared her students for. She tries to benefit the student. work hard, pay attention, study & do hw & extra credit and you will do well.
Professor Huang's lectures/homework are manageable but the exams are very difficult if you don't know how to study/what to study since there is a lot of material for each exam. I'd suggest getting a Study Edge membership to help you study, I failed the first exam, then started using Study Edge and ended up with an A in the class.
Dr. Huang is an amazing teacher. She is funny and genuinely cares about her students. Get to know her, she is very willing to make accommodations to students needs. She records all her lectures and students have access to re-watch them always. She assigns a lot of homework; DON'T PROCRASTINATE. Don't worry about her accent, it's easy to hear.
I LOVE Huang!!! She is the best professor I've ever had. Her lectures are extremely clear, to the point and she does a great job explaining hard concepts. Her tests are VERY FAIR. If you go to class, d homework, and study, you will get an A. She made the 3rd exam very hard by mistake,so she gave everyone 6 points extra credit. She cares about you!
Tests are pretty easy and a lot like her old exams. Extra credit is given and almost all grade categories are curved in some way. Also extra credit on the exams. Very knowledgeable but lectures are not the best but they are mandatory with graded clicker questions.
Really great professor. Her lectures have about 300+ kids but with the extra credit she offers, it's all good.
I think Dr. Huang is exactly average. Her accent is a little difficult at first, but not terrible. She has an interesting sense of humor, and likes to laugh in class, even if it's at the misunderstanding of her students, but overall she does a decent job of teaching the concepts that you need to know from Calc 1. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE the HOMEWORK!
I took Calculus my first semester of College. One of the biggest mistakes of my life. This class is not the hardest I would say. It just takes time, effort, and a whole lot of practice. Her accent is a little hard to understand at first, but you get used to it. Notes are understandable to follow. And her sections fill up fast.
Dr. Huang is a great professor for Calc 1, and I chose to take her again for calc 2 next semester. She makes you work for the grade, but she gives plenty of extra credit on the tests and in other areas, so it isn't crazy hard to get an A. Sometimes her notes seem a bit over-complicated. Don't worry about her accent, she's easy to understand.
She's absolutely amazing! I took her for calc 1 and was the best decision I made. She has office hours and study hours more than three times a week so she's always available. Her accent wasn't a problem at all and though it was a morning class, she always managed to put a smile on our faces.
Huang's lectures are really average, and I ended up depending on study edge for most of the material. You really have to motivate yourself to keep up with the course. Be ready for the quizzes and complete webassign every week because that impacts your grade a lot. If you only need Calc 1, consider taking it somewhere else bc it's a lot of work
Great professor, really cares that the students learn the material. Go to the lectures, she makes the content easy to understand. Make sure to do all the work because all the little points add up and can boost your grade if you bomb an exam.
Truly disliked this class. Attendance made everything worse. She is not well spoken and is not clear when explaining things. She is nice, but difficult. Half way through I decided to use Study Edge to help accommodate for the failing grades. Managed to bring grade back up to B-, but it was only because of the tutoring i received. Careful.
Huang is the best professor I have had at UF, I had her for MAC2311 and MAC2312 and she is an angel. Definitely try to get into Huang's class, she takes the time to make sure students understand and she is very good at explaining the material.
This class was so much harder than I was expecting. She is a very sweet woman but I found that she struggled to make the material clear to students. After failing the 1st exam, I went on to study for at least a week using Study Edge and a private tutor and managed to do well in the class. Lectures are confusing & attendance counts.
I love Huang! She is very sweet and gives great lectures. She can explain things very well. Overall the class was not extremely difficult but you definitely need to do at least the homework.
Can't be better. The best professor I have ever seen. She can always keep her stuff ez to digest.
she was very clear and wrote everything out and didn't assume we knew how to do the math. Keep up with the hw and WA and you will be fine. I was told this class was gonna be really hard and so i kept up with it a lot and got a 108%on my first exam, thought i could slack off, and got a 75% on exam 2, but then straightened up again and ended w/ an A
Professor Hang was very clear with her lectures. She broke everything down so the lectures flowed in a very organized manner. I came into this class thinking it was gonna be hard but she made the lessons easy to understand. WA and the homework were a lot though and took more time than necessary.
SJH is a phenomenal lecturer. She is approachable before/after class, during office hours, and even offered supplemental instruction. Dr. Huang cares a lot, which is especially evident if you attend office hours. Her accent is something I was warned about, but it isn't an issue at all. I highly recommend this compassionate, intelligent professor.
Dr. Huang is fantastic! Clear, makes sense, approachable, nice. People complain about her accent but it really doesn't affect her teaching. She posts her lectures on her canvas so that is helpful. Extra credit opportunities. I strongly suggest starting the homeworks ASAP. Do not wait on them because WebAssign problems are already annoying enough.
Loved this teacher, shes so sweet and teaches well, got a little behind so she goes very fast in class and sometimes hard to keep up but she knows her stuff and her reviews for the test are very helpful. Best teacher for learning the material.
The class is organized. Lecture videos, each with short (3Q) quiz and WebAssign HW (20Q) 3 lectures/week. Quiz after every 2-3 lectures 2 quizzes/week and 3 midterms with a final exam. Some extra credit and grade drops. Some lectures not helpful enough but she's super helpful and kind, go to office hours; she wants you to ask her for help!
She makes all of her lectures available online, so it is easy to review for the quizzes and exams. She's a bit fast-paced and takes clicker points, making attendance necessary for a better grade. You do not have to go to office hours to pass, but she's super helpful and caring during them. Would definitely recommend!
Dr. Huang is great. Her lectures are clear, and she cares that you understand the material. She is great in office hours. The web assign can be tedious, and Chegg helped me figure out how to do some of them. The written homework is exhausting. There are many grades besides tests and quizzes, so if you work hard, an A is definitely possible.
Dr. Huang is one of the best professors I have had at UF. I had her as a professor for Calculus 1 through 3 so I've gotten to know her really well. Her lectures are clear and make sense. Homework is not too bad as long as you keep up. Her office hours are also very helpful. I would strongly recommend her as a professor.
She is a very nice professor. She really cares about her students doing well since calc 3 can be a bit confusing. She gives test reviews that help a lot in terms of preparation for the test. The WebAssign problems can be a bit complicated at times. Do her test reviews, it helps a lot!
Taking Dr. Huang for calc 3 is a very good choice. She is an enthusiastic teacher who can make the material interesting and engaging. I would highly recommend taking advantage of office hours for help on practice problems and homework.
Dr. Huang is an enthusiastic professor that makes learning Calc 3 more fun. Her tests are not bad if you study. She posts an exam review and an extra credit practice test, and her tests are very similar to these. Huang does not curve her tests, but she gives an ample amount of extra credit that makes up for it.
Huang made calc 3 so easy! Her lectures are clear and her tests are very easy compared to webassign and the reviews she sends out. I would love to be in another math class taught by her.
I'm no natural calc genius, so I had to study hard, but I thought the class and especially the tests were super fair, as long as you put in the work. Dr. Huang's lectures, hw, and reviews aligned so well with what you needed to know, I didn't have to use Study Edge! Do ALL the extra credit, it adds up.
I've had Huang for calc 1, calc 2, and calc 3 and I couldn't be happier. Plenty of room for extra credit, extremely helpful in lectures and posts more than enough exam review for the tests. I'm just upset that she doesn't teach differential equations :(
Calc 3 is definitely a difficult class, but Dr. Huang explained difficult concepts slowly enough to understand and always asks for questions from students. She has office hours every week and notifies students if she is unable to meet. Clickers are part of the final grade, but lecture videos are posted online if you have to miss class.
Itd been a year and a half since I last took calculus 2, but she made (re)learning everything so easy! Not gonna lie, I failed the first exam but that was expected since I had literally forgotten everything about calculus and math in general, but after that Ive passed every exam and Im expecting a good final grade! Shes a great professor!
I love this lady more than anything! She was the sweetest professor! Always cared about the class and gave a large amount of extra credit! TAKE HER! The class isn't necessarily easy but Dr. Huang sets you up well to pass the exams! My advice don't study the review sheet (unnecessarily hard), study the extra credit practice quiz and old exams! EASY!
She is a solid choice for a calc professor, but beware if you need a slower-paced lecture. She talks very fast which can be very frustrating, especially if you have her in the mornings like I did. You're graded on many things so don't worry if you struggle a little at first. Don't bother with her exam reviews, just do the practice exam.
She made Calculus 3 clear and accessible. I always knew what I needed to do to get a grasp on the material. The homework structure kept me constantly on top of the course, and plenty of good material was provided before every exam so I went in feeling confident and prepared. She also made lectures delightful and friendly.
Huang is the best lecturer. She is very good at explaining challenging concepts in a way that is easy to understand. Her lectures are fast paced, but they are thorough. She prepares you very well for exams. There is a lot of HW, but it's always just like exam questions so it is good practice. Lots of opportunities for points and easy quizzes.
absolutely loved her! she's very good at explaining the material and offers lots of extra credit. she creates a bonus point quiz you can take, which always end up being super similar to the exams. take her!
Easy to get an A, but she makes the class very annoying.
Solid lecturer. Gives an actual insane amount of homework for a calc class. If you actually do it, and don't use Chegg or anything, we're talking like 2 hours per assignment, which are due every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.
Shu Huang is a great lecturer and really cares about her students. I really like her personality and seeming passion for math and teaching. There is a lot of homework but exams are mostly fair, exam reviews are helpful, and there is a good amount of extra credit. Awesome except for slightly too much homework imo.
She's really sweet! The class is very difficult but she always cheers up the mood, also probably the best calc 3 professor UF has. Be sure to participate and pay attention for the clicker points.
Amazing lecturer, teaches things in a simple manner. Attendance isn't mandatory, but clicker questions are 8% of your grade and are pretty easy so show up. HW 3x a week (Tues Thurs Sun), takes 1-2 hours per assignment. Bonus on every test, and bonus assignments before every test. I think it adds up to 10% to your final grade if you get it all.
Huang is a fantastic professor for Calc3. She goes fast in lectures, but she explains the content best. Her grading is straightforward and there's a crazy amount of extra credit (I did v well on the first 3 tests and got most of the extra credit and so only needed a 23% on the final to get an A). I'm surprised her rating on this site isn't higher.
Although I took Dr. Huang for online Calc 3, she made sure that we all were staying caught up in the course. She listened to midterm evals and added an "in person" (zoom) weekly review session that helped a lot. She made print out notes that we could write on that made things so clear. She also gave a lot of extra credit options. 10/10
This class really just comes down to actually doing the work, and there is a lot of it. If you do the work and the practice exams enough times you will definitely do well in the class.
She is a very sweet lady and very smart, although it may be a little hard to understand her at times her lecture videos are far better than Knudsens and she actually walks through the problems and how to do them
Doesn't cover the same material in homework as in lecture
My honest review: Dont do it online! I have always enjoyed and been great at Calculus. This course is exam heavy, which are graded unfairly compared to previous semesters. No chances for partial credit. It's easy to fall behind too, and you must put in many hours to understand difficult concepts. Don't take this with hard classes. Some Extra credit
She was a good instructor and incredibly fair and reasonable. If you put in the effort youll do well in this class.
Dr Huang was honestly a great professor. There were some times where she would get frustrated with students asking questions but it was warranted as they interrupted and often would ask the same question over and over again. She provides so many extra credit opportunities you can boost your grade by almost an entire letter grade. She explained well
Absolutely adored this woman. Calc 3 isn't an easy class but she's an excellent teacher. Passionate, makes lectures interesting through her enthusiasm
She is a nice lady but when doing homework and lecture questions, you will often come across topics that wont be covered till next lecture. She also gives a LOT of homework so if you take her be ready to work. I would not take her online.
Hw and LQ(quizzes) do not correspond with the lectures. I would be doing HW 5 and see a question that I wouldn't know how to do. Then that same question would appear in lecture 6. Just a warning if you take her. The good thing is that she gives extra credit occasionally. Since the class is online, you can not get partial credit on exams.
She was a great lecturer, one of the best considering that learning Calc 3 online is not an easy feat. Very helpful and accessible for those who needs questions answered further. Lots of homework but its expected and they actually helped me to learn the material. Overall, a great professor and would love to take her again!
Definitely the hardest class I've taken, but if you study and work hard you will be fine. Huang is great, she cares a lot and is knowledgable. Take advantage of office hours when you have questions. Homework is super time consuming and there are a lot of conceptual questions on the exams so you must study a lot. Practice exams are your best bet!
Class was moderately difficult. As long as you don't fall behind and do the homework and corresponding lecture questions in a timely matter, you should be fine. A considerable amount of extra credit is offered and the homework/corresponding lecture questions reflect what you will see on the unit exams. Dr. Huang is a good choice for MAC2313.
If you watch all of the lectures and do the homework, you will do well in the class. The exams, while not necessarily easy, are straightforward and the course materials truly do prepare you for them. Most importantly, Dr. Huang is great! You can tell that she genuinely cares for her students and their success. Also, lots of extra credit :)
Dr. Huang gives super informative lectures and the way she explains things makes it easy to learn tricky material. She has an accent, but it is not difficult to understand her, especially after the first lecture or two. I used StudyEdge as a supplement to this class, which I recommend, but she is a great prof and I'd definitely recommend her.
Provides A LOT of extra credit, so make sure you do that and you should get a good grade.
Huang was amazing for calc 3 and would recommend her to anyone taking MAC courses. Lectures are clear and she will give help to anyone who asks. This is a tough course so just make sure you stay on top of it all.
Dr. Huang is a great professor for calc 3. She does an amazing job explaining difficult concepts and is always willing to help her students. The class is difficult, but there are lots of extra credit opportunities and as long as you study for exams, you should be fine.
She was a really good professor who explained most topics well. The only issue is that since there is so much content in general, most lectures felt rushed and some of the lessons at the end of the semester had a little less of an explanation. But it was fine because you could rewatch the lectures, and there was a ton of extra credit opportunities.
Huang is a really good lecturer. This class is definitely hard, and there is a TON of homework, but if you go to class and do the work you will pass. Discussion classes are absolutely pointless but it was extra credit to attend. Would absolutely take Huang again.
Professor Huang was a great choice for Calc 3. There was a lot of homework every week but there was also a very large amount of extra credit available. Homework was always harder than the tests and quizzes and if you try hard in the class you should be able to get an A
Huang is a really good professor and she is a kind lady, this content is just hard and I am not good at math. Xronos homework is pretty hard. Most of the test/quiz questions are similar to lecture examples. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities so take advantage.
The material is tough, but Dr. Huang's lectures make the class managable. Her lectures are clear and there is a lot of work, but it prepares you for exams. I also really liked her point-system for grading.
She is VERY good at explaining concepts, but the way the course was structured was kind of weird. The homework problems were unnecessarily hard but there were unlimited attempts so it was all right. The class was pretty easy but the fourth topic (and end of 2nd topic) material kind of flew over my head.
I enjoyed her lecture format and the cumulative points system for grading.
Dr. Huang is a great professor. She is extremely organized and explains topics very clearly. Theres a lot of assignments, but if you keep up with it, you should be prepared on tests. Tests can be tricky at times. Extra credit is huge too, there was enough to boost my grade nearly 10% by the end of the semester. She always willing to help as well.
Calc3 was definitely the hardest class I've ever taken. However, Professor Huang is a very good professor and explains things well. She has tons of office hours and clearly wants her students to do well. She is not a tough grader but 3 exams + a final count for most of your grade. However she gives over 5% extra credit which helps your grade a lot.
Extremely nice and caring teacher, but the class is super difficult
Very tough class but Dr. Huang is a great teacher and gives tons of extra credit. She's always ready to help as well, so use those office hourse
Always very efficient with her lectures. May move too fast for some but she's really not that fast. All in all, I understood the material better because she was my teacher.
Dr. Huang has made Calc 3 slightly more bearable. She explains things well and is always open to answering questions. Along with this she is very accomodating to issues such as illnesses and will help you out however she can.
Great teacher. While class is not easy and the lectures are fast, she explains the content very well. There is a lot of homework but it def is good practice. If you understand it, you will do good on the exam. The grading curve is also absolutely ridiculously good. Very nice, interesting, and as fun, as a prof teaching calc can be.
I did not know what I was getting myself into when I registered for this class. I figured it would be like math classes I had taken in the past. To anyone who plans to take the class with this professor, be aware that you will have to put in some work to get the result. But, at the same time, you will gain a more in depth knowledge of the subject.
Dr. Huang is a great professor who is clearly quite knowledgable in her field. She wants her students to succeed and is always willing to help with whatever you need. The class itself is difficult. The homework can sometimes be overwhelming but as long as you stay on top of it you'll be just fine. The extra credit is absolutely clutch.
Great Professor. Very clear with materials. Awesome lectures too. I always have a good time there because she is really funny and makes the classes very entertaining. The structure of the course is straightforward. Do your homework and you will be fine. However, the course is mechanical, just solving problems, does not make you think of anything.
She is a great lecturer and always keeps the lectures interesting and entertaining. Explained all the concepts in a clear and simple manner. The homework, particularly the XRONOS, can be quite annoying from the computation but needs to be done. The quiz and tests are modeled after the homework and there are no surprises. Also lots of extra credit.
I didn't have her specifically as my professor, but I watched all of her recorded lectures for the class. She explained the content relatively well, but the class itself is pretty hard and really makes you work for it. Extra credit is CLUTCH though in making this a bit easier. Overall, just stay on top of homework and lectures and it's manageable.
She was great! Definitely the best out of the 3 options for Calc 3. Her lectures were good and she does her best to keep classes entertaining. Super sweet lady but not very flexible when it comes to grades, you get what you get. Overall though I'm glad I had her for this class!
Dr. Huang was amazing and the best option of the three calc 3 professors this semester hands down. She was funny and kept the class lively. She might go fast at times but if you can keep up she is a fantastic professor.
This was easily the hardest math class that I've ever taken in my life, but the structure of Professor Huang's class made it much more manageable. There were plenty of extra credit opportunities and the grading scale was very lenient. There was a lot of homework but help was always there if you needed it.
She is an awesome lecturer that really cares about if her students understand. Calculus 3 is definitely a harder class but she makes it much more manageable if you stay up with the lectures and the homework. I recommend not waiting till the last minute for homework and getting lecture notes.
Dr. Huang's course is structured very nicely, making it easier to manage the workload. She is also kind of funny sometimes. She tells you in advance all that is expected of you and gives you plenty of extra credit opportunities. Since it is Calc 3, I do suggest watching the lectures and doing all the homework problems as practice.
Dr. Huang is a very smart woman. However, beware if you do not have any prior knowledge of Physics or Calculus 3 before. She is extremely fast-paced and her lectures are rushed. It is really hard to keep up. If you are a slow learner and like to ask questions, I do not recommend her. Both Calc 3 teachers provide great extra credit.
Calc 3 is A LOT and STANDARDIZED. Therefore, although her lecture is fast-paced, it is understandable and, I believe, not her fault. Although ppl often criticize the difficulty of calc3, the fact is that more than 1/3 of the students will get an A. Extra-credit opportunities that, if you do them all, can make sure you get an A.
Professor Huang is great! Her assignments are easy, she teaches very well, and her office hours are very helpful.
She explains the concepts very well. Just be warned that because there's a lot of content, she goes through the lectures really fast. It isn't too big of a deal, but it did take a bit to get used to. I would highly recommend printing/downloading the lecture sheets to avoid having to copy theorems and formulas and such
Dr. Huang is very nice and you can tell she cares about her students' success! She speaks very quickly in lecture because there is a lot of material to cover. She gives plenty of practice assignments and opportunities for extra credit, so as long as you keep up with her lectures and assignments, you can get a good grade in the class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE. That is my biggest regret. You are taught by the teaching center lectures that are 10 years old and then you have to take her test. I began doing well when I ditched their videos and only watched her lectures. She gives a SUBSTANTIAL amount of extra credit, so if you pay attention and study the content you'll get an A
Dr. Huang's lectures are well-planned and she definitely knows what she's doing. The pacing of the course can be a little fast, so it's important not to fall behind on lectures. Doing past exams was the most beneficial to me as I was studying. There's lots of extra credit throughout the course and everything is graded really fairly.
Professor Huang is the best professor I have ever had. She is an amazing lecturer and is so helpful if you go to her office hours with questions. A large portion of your grade comes from the four exams, but the final is not cumulative. Just study and you'll be fine.
Dr. Huang was a great teacher. Get on your TA's good side because mine never seemed to like me and was very harsh with her quiz grading. My only criticism of Huang would be that I wish she had simultaneous live Zooms; she does post-recorded lectures after. I only went once, but her office hours help
I had Huang for MAC2313 and MAS3114 online; loved her both times! Yes, there is a lot of homework, but if you do it manually and ahead of time it really will improve your math skills and help in the course. Huang herself is very comfortable with students and seeks the best for your grades; she will do whatever she can to allow you to succeed!
I greatly enjoyed my time in MAS3114! The entire course was very well structured and stayed organized throughout the semester. I really enjoyed the bite sized lectures and felt like I could learn something new every day. There was lots of work but at no point did the MyLab homework feel repetitive, and the projects were integral to my learning.
She wasn't actually the lecturer, it was recorded lectures from another professor. However, her explanations to student questions were very clear and easy to follow, as were her instructions for the MATLAB assignments. I had no coding experience before I took this course, and I was able to receive over 100% on each assignment. TONS of extra credit.
Computational Linear Algebra with her was horrendous. I took this class and was blown away by how absurd the lectures were to follow. The lecturer isn't even professor Huang, and both have accents that could be easier to understand. If you take this course online- good luck. She is not willing to help you understand the content at all.
Professor Huang gives the absolute best lectures of any math professor at UF. All of her lectures had great explanations with useful examples. Her lectures for calc 2, calc 3, and linear algebra are all amazing. I don't even understand how some people are not rating her 5 stars. She cares a lot about her students' understanding.
Great lectures. Had her Fall 2021 semester and she provided notes with fill-in-the-blanks. It was awesome.
Prof Huang is a really good professor. The online lectures were done by someone else but she would upload lecture recordings for MATLAB assignments and exam reviews and they helped a ton! She seems really kind as a person as well. Would recommend taking any classes she teaches.
Prof. is nice, class is VERY difficult. Things build fast. Notes are shell notes, but concept heavy and prof usually assumes you can finish the work yourself. Def needs more examples. Exams are 50 minutes, no curve, calculator or ref sheet. Lots of materials you can use to review, but I feel like they never prepped me that well for the actual test.
Wouldn't round my grade by less than 1/3 of a percent and i'm salty but she was ok ig
Very easy class. I personally thought the professor did a great job explaining concepts if you watch her actual lectures. Gave decent prep for exams. There's a lot of hw and quizzes though.
VERY boring lectures. I took this class online and have been having a terrible experience, especially since there are no other lectures to watch or study edge. Currently have a C in this class despite studying extensively. She also assigns 5+ LQ's per week in some weeks with matlabs. do NOT recommend taking this with her, especially online!!
Lots of homework and quizzes per week, they're all due on Thursdays, not Sundays. Lectures are pretty easy to follow until you get to the end of the course and all the concepts get jumbled. Her lectures are long, so be prepared to watch in 2x speed (her voice gets even more annoying then). Pretty easy class, just very lecture and homework heavy.
The lectures were sometimes hard to follow, and she has a very round-a-bout way of explaining things. The exams (mostly conceptual questions) tended to be VERY different than the homework and even study materials provided (mostly analytical, solving questions).
Dr. Huang is awesome! Her lectures are very easy to follow and the assignments are straightforward. I would 100% take her class again. However, beware that she doesn't give extensions on projects or allow makeup exams after the original exam date.
The lectures are fine, with clear recordings, and there's a decent amount of homework, which significantly aids in learning the material. The multiple choice 10 question exams are daunting but mostly fair. While it's possible to watch lectures remotely, it's not recommended.
Professor Huang was great! Lectures were fairly easy to follow and were recorded if you needed to miss class. The exams were difficult for me, because they were far my conceptual than the study material she provided (practice exam and review sheets). MatLab assignments are tedious if you've never coded before, but easy to score well on.
her notes were very messy, her lectures were also confusing. they are recorded so can listen again. exam are exactly like the review papers so easy to pass. Matlab is very unintuitive and laggy
Huang is def not top tier in math teachers. Exams were hard and you get only one practice exam that is not always same layout. She does give extra credit though in Matlabs and in class sometimes, which is good. She just is not the best teacher and I found that most of the students doing well were using some sort of outside resource to learn
Taking the class online, to this date I haven't watched a full lecture. The lectures are horrible in my opinion. She just throws facts without showing any proofs. If you just rely on her lectures linear algebra will appear mysterious. Summary: READ THE BOOK.
Honestly Linear Algebra is super easy but the exams are awful. Each questions are 10% so its super easy to get a low score and all the exam prep she gives you does not correlate to the actual exam. The exam averages are like 71% for two exams in a row, and the people who get 108% each exam def has some sort of outside information. MATLab also sucks
Material should have been easy but the format of the class makes everything SO. MUCH. MORE. DIFFICULT. Lots of homework, 4 to 5 MATLABS, she goes lightning speed in the lectures so be prepared to use your pause and rewind buttons ALOT. If you only understand 70% of the material, trust me you will get < 60% on the exams. CUSHION YOUR GRADES w HW!!
There are lots of hw assignments, she runs through her presentations and skips a lot of steps in her work. Exams are only a few questions so if u barely mess up ur exam grade is gonna plummet. A lot of the questions were trick questions and did not properly reflect on a student's understanding. DO UR HWS AND MATLABS. These saved me.
She runs thru lectures and skips steps of her work. A lot of times she'll just read off definitions rather than give a more digestible explanation. Exams are 12-14 questions and there's some trick questions in there so if you mess up like 2-4 ur exam grade plummets. Do ur hws, matlabs, and EC and u should be ok. Hated this class format tho.
Huang was a very good lecturer, as this class can be difficult at times. Unit 2 was the hardest unit, and it wasn't even that bad. Just go to lecture and pay attention and its an A
She was a decent teacher, but often she focused on the tough conceptual parts of the class rather than the actual math involved. If you need to take linear algebra though, she was fair and offered lots of extra credit. The grading scale was also extremely forgiving (10% for 3 exams and the rest is homework and MATLAB).
Overall a good professor. Definitely attend lecture consistently if you want to do well in the class. She gives a lot of avenues to succeed. I think mainly she just struggled to explain certain concepts
Lectures were VERY confusing and they do not add up what the questions on the exams ask since she talks super fast and it gets boring fast. Matlab instructions were also difficult to comprehend and she generally isn't good at teaching.
Exams are worth 50% of your grade and 12 mc questions (including 2 bonus points) needed to be completed in 50 minutes with no calculator used. I find it very nerve wrecking to complete several lecture quizzes along with some matlabs some weeks. Plus side is that she assigns a lot of extra credit so make sure to do them.
TONS of extra credit in this class. An exam drop, MATLAB EC, a few iClicker EC questions, exams graded 108/100. Exams can be tough with some trick questions, the format is 12 MCQs with some multi select. You are essentially guaranteed a 100 on every MyLab HW (28% of the grade) because you can keep doing each question until you get it right.
The content was easy, but the exams were AWFUL! There were 12 mc questions (1 or 2 of them being matlab) and we had to complete it in 50 min with no calculator or reference sheet with 15 extra minutes to follow honorlock procedures of scanning workspace, showing our scrap paper, and ripping it apart at the end. ABSOLUTELY SUCKED!
Lectures are pretty shallow and do not reveal the underlying mathematics behind many of the concepts. As a result, students are left with many properties to remember without any sort of connection. Exams are difficult, 10 questions worth 10 points each and 2 bonus questions. Don't be fooled, the exams are riddled with trick questions.
This class has ridiculous amount of workload. On average its 3-5 mylabs and lecture quizzes and some weeks before exams, you have a giant maltab assignment due. Exams are heavily conceptual and super tricky. If you take this class, get prepared to study and do A LOT of work and make new friends.
Professor Huang gave all the information needed to succeed in this course. She always made time for students to make sure we understood. A lot of extra credit opportunities. Class is lecture heavy though. You need to know and understand all the conceptual material.
Took it online, lectures were very clear and helpful, would've gotten an A if I studied better, but I was fine with an A- honestly. Gives plenty of practice material that helps with the tests, and lots of extra credit opportunities, more than half the class got an A. Just make sure that you keep up with it and do practice problems
VERY VERY difficult and everything moves incredibly fast! Don't take this in the summer if you're taking other core classes at the same time. She's too conceptual and doesn't explain much for analytical math questions. Her exam was brutal and time limit was 50 min and assigns matlabs to be due at same time along with lectures/mylabs.
This professor is incredibly difficult. I am not sure where the good reviews are coming from. Professor will go over an extremely basic example in her lectures but then will through nothing but curveball challenging questions on the exam. At least 3 HW and 3 Quizzes due each week + the weeks you have an exam or poorly explained MatLab projects.
PLEASE DON'T TAKE ONLINE!!! Class format sucks with poorly explained lectures/reviews that do not suffice for exams with meager number of questions. Some weeks have Matlabs assigned along with 4+ lecture quizzes. Went to office hours to go over my exams and she was a bit judgy and condescending.
Really good professor. I would suggest that you take the in person class better but if you have to take online is fine too. Her lectures are pretty concise, with a lot of them being like 30 minutes when they're supposed to be 50. Sometimes brings a proof or two but that's necessary in math in general.
I am devastated I have to take another class with Huang. Her lectures are boring and unengaging. She is rude and condescending, has poor explanations, and does not provide clear expectations or learning objectives for assignments and exams. Huang does not appear to want students to succeed in her classes or master the material.
Professor Huang's class is conceptually challenging, but she provides plenty of practice through MyLab and extra credit opportunities. Utilizing unstuckstudy ai alongside the textbook can really help with exam prep.
The material is very conceptually heavy. Her lectures are quite dense but she does provide helpful examples. Homework and MATLAB are time consuming but not extremely difficult. Extra credit helps a lot. TA Robert was very annoying though.
Lowkey a fake class. Very easy and it's very well organized, just don't leave all the LQs and MyLabs accumulate or it'll be very tedious to get through. Practice exams and review sheets are very helpful! Professor Huang is really nice, but TA Robert is a little annoying.
Professor Huang is slightly hard to understand, but I was still able to understand her lectures. Exams get harder as class goes on, but there's no final which is nice. This class has a bunch of weird terms and confusing questions, really the only way to do good is just practice problems and the exact same stuff will be on the exam.
Overall experience was pretty average, best advice is to just do the homework and it would hard not to pass. Math is more conceptual style, average of about 3 HW and LQ per week, 4 Matlab assignments throughout the semester and 3 exams with an optional final that replaces lowest exam grade. Did not have to attend lectures, available to watch online
Hard to understand in lecture. The class is fast paced but not difficult. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and a redo exam at the end of the semester so it is not hard at all to get an A. Do the weekly homework for practice and you'll be fine.
I feel like they were more concerned with catching students cheating than actually teaching. The lectures were hard to follow, and the exams had only 10 questions with no partial credit, making it tough to score above 70 even if you understand most of the material. The class also has a terrible TA.
Ppl say this class is easy, but I disagree... The lectures are pretty abstract (talking multiple dimensions), and she never tells you what the math actually is. She just goes through proofs of what you just need to memorize. I couldn't tell you how to actually apply this in the real world. The grading is curved so very manageable but not a breeze
Dr.Huang's lecture are abstract to understand in person, the online version of her lecture is much better. Take the comp linear class online because she won't post all of the online lecture for in persons.
I've had a *lot* experience with AI/mathematics and this class is one of the best classes that I've ever had. If you can't cut this class, you can't do AI. Period. EVERYTHING is relevant. Professor goes out of her way to make excellent typed notes *for you* and videos which distill this down. It's work, if you can't do it, get out thank you.
Huang has well designed lectures and the exams will not waste your time with unnecessary arithmetic. If you take the time to fully understand the concepts you will do well, just know that the topics in this class can get pretty abstract, so do your own research and attend office hours when the lectures are not enough.
Professor Huang is kind, but she teaches quickly and often skips steps. The first half of the class was difficult, so I always went to office hours, but help was sometimes limited. The MATLAB assignments were tough, and the TAs weren't very helpful. The makeup exam was surprisingly easier than other exams, and I recommend taking the course online.
Comp lin alg is a very straight forward class, if you pay attention during lectures and do the homework you'll do fine
PROS: Grade is curved, Huang also offers a decent amount of extra credit, so DO IT CONS: Exams are 10 multiple-choice questions online each question being worth 10 points so it's easy to tank your grade, MATLAB assignments are TIME CONSUMING, very focused on catching cheating which makes taking Honorlock exams stressful, youtube better than lecture
Great lecturer, explained the topics well. If I was ever confused I went to the textbook which was surprisingly good for a math class. MATLAB assignments were frustrating, but other homeworks were not so bad. Focus on learning the concepts and you'll do good. She provides a LOT of bonus opportunites, including iclicker in class.
Dr. Huang offers SO MUCH extra credit on MatLab, practice exams, and discussion forums, as well as having an optional final exam replacing your lowest exam score. If you do all the homework and MatLabs on time, you can get an A quite easily even if you don't do that well on the exams. Exams are not weighted enough to make or break your grade.
Really responsible professor. Took it online. Video letcture is enough for everything. Easiest math class taken. Matlab takes abou 4 hours each and there are 4 Matlabs. The only annoying part about this course is the Matlab and the side-camera requirement for the test. Lot's of EC. Chill class.
This professor is the best for Linear Algebra. If you go to lecture, and you do all the assignments and do the practice material for the exams you will get an A. Lectures are extremly clear, and even have extra credit for showing up. She is enthusiastic and knowledgable, and taking this course was both interesting and fun.
Honorlock exams are proctored using a side-angle camera, which isn't working properly all the time, making it super hard to stay focused on the exam. If you don't set it up correctly or it's blurry/stops working, you get points deducted. You need a clarification on the score from MATLAB, and the TA has to re-run your assignment; you get deductions.
The exams had only 10 questions with no partial credit, making it tough to score above 70 even if you understand most of the material. The class also has a terrible TA.She does offer extra credit, but even though it doesn't make this class any nicer.
The lectures are pretty abstract (talking about multiple dimensions), and she never tells you what the math actually is. She just goes through proofs of what you just need to memorize. I can't see you how you would apply this in the real world.
I took Dr. Huang online and she was great. She has excellent online lectures and the class was run very well and grades were posted in a timely manner. The class wasn't difficult at all and I would highly recommend it for those who want to learn linear algebra without memorizing the proofs.
Her lectures are not amazingly helpful for the test content, it's quite abstract proofs that don't necessarily teach HOW to do the problems. She tends to rush through the problems. You are given weekly homework problems to do which actually teach you how to do problems you will be tested on. A is very doable for this course b/c of extra credit.
Worst professor in UF. Never respect students. Never reply to email
Her accent is so hard to understand youre better off watching the lectures on mute. She and her TAs spend all their free time trying to catch cheaters instead of helping us. Even if you dont cheat, odds are you will be accused of it multiple times throughout the semester. I swear I spent more time trying to prove my innocence than the classwork.
This class is very poorly designed. The lectures are abstract, mostly proofs that Huang doesn't explain very clearly, and usually half the homework question types aren't covered. Half your grade is based on exams, but the review content just doesn't cover everything on them. You're better off watching YouTube lectures to make it through this class.
Class is cake except 4 extremely tedious MATLAB assignments that are a huge portion of your grade. (If youre having to hold q&a sessions every week for a type of assignment, maybe the students arent the problem!!) TAs are strict graders and Dr. Huang is a terrible teacher. She takes AN easy class and turns it into a huge waste of time.
I think Professor Huang is a very nice person, just not a great educator. The lectures and exam review didn't prepare me for the actual exam content. Half of the exam review content never even appears on the tests. Very abstract at times and since exams are such a big portion of the grade, it is really punishing. I'd take anyone else if possible.
professor was okay her explanations and lectures were fine. PLEASE do the matlab assignments early they are the bulk of the work for this class and similarily take up the most time. there are weekly qa sessions for them if needed. TAs can often grade pretty rough. exams are all mcq about 10-15 questions. lots of ec oppurtunity.
I took Comp Linear Algebra over the summer and it was honestly pretty easy. Just watch lectures as they are assigned and do all the review and you'll be good. Yes, the exams are only 10 questions, but they are very similar to review material. Only big annoying part is the MatLab assignments imo. Make sure to watch her Q&As for those.
The class itself is very manageable, I did bad on every exam besides the optional final and came out with an A. The notes and assignments are incredibly easy and not on par with the exams, she does not prepare you well. You really have to understand linear algebra conceptually to do well on the exams
Professor Huang seems like a nice person, but is not a good instructor. Her notes do NOT prepare you well for the exams, and her lectures just aren't good. She's not very good at explaining things and moves very fast.
Kind person, but lectures were fast and confusing. Many students likely used AI because they were lost, not dishonest. She still reported nearly half the class to the dean. Notes didn't match exams, and the course felt disorganized and stressful.
The lecture material critically lacks detail and context, making comprehension nearly impossible, reducing it to rote memorization. Prof. Huang's dismissive or sarcastic response to student questions creates a toxic atmosphere. This behavior discourages students from seeking necessary clarification, creating a climate of fear and anxiety.
3.5/5.0 is really an overestimation on the quality of the class. Rather than hosting traditional office hours for academic support, this professor holds one-to-one academic interrogations on a regular basis via Zoom. She also reported nearly half the class to the dean for mass "academic dishonesty" on open-book assignments.
She seems nice. I just don't like the way her tests r designed. It's testing ur memorization ability rather than whether u actually understand & know how to solve certain problems. I wouldn't mind her testing on terminology & thm stuff if she allowed a cheat sheet on tests. MATLAB is cool to learn, but it can also be a pain. Ec is nice though.
genuinely one of the worst professors I ever had. hw and lectures do not help you prepare for the exams as much as they should. she can also be very unempathetic towards students when it comes to understanding the material. matlab assignments are helpful to understanding a bit of the coursework but overall very time consuming
Terrible professor as I am going out of my way to write abt how terrible she is. Cares more about catching cheaters than helping students understand content. Accuses students of cheating when there is no evidence. everything does not prepare you for the test. Took a lin alg course in high school and still struggling w her content.
Genuinely debated jumping off Century Tower every time I went to an exam.
Lectures are very difficult to understand. You're better off looking online for alternative lectures. There are multiple resources for studying for exams, but NONE of them are remotely similar to the actual exam. She requires a tripod setup for exams and constantly accuses students of cheating. EC and curved grading scale are nice, but that's it.
I like her strategy of teaching the class by bringing printed notes to class and annotating them with her. She provides a lot of extra credit opportunities, and the final exam is optional to raise your grade. MATLAB assignments are a bit difficult, but she walks us through a lot of it.
The lectures are just fine, the matlab assignments are super annoying but overall i thought the 3 tests were fair. She is super paranoid about cheating and requires a side-view camera angle for all the tests.
Her lectures were great and really helped me understand the material, she had a short Q&A section at the end for students who had questions, as well as plenty of study materials prior to each exam. She also dropped the lowest exam grade of the semester, essentially making the final (cumulative) exam optional.
Class content is easy as long as you follow along with her in-person lectures (available on canvas). Assignment in MATLAB are difficult, especially if you don't have a coding background, but review sessions and TAs largely give you the answers if you show you've tried. Explains difficult concepts well, but can speed through some content for time.
Very nice lady and teaches linear algebra very well. One homework plus an LQ per lecture, very manageable. Holds a review lecture before each exam and gives plenty of study material. MATLAB is annoying but doable. Lots and I mean LOTS of extra credit! Overall, I enjoyed her lectures and thought she gave us lots of opportunity to pass with an A.
Overall, great professor. Class is very straightforward with lectures, lecture quizzes, MyLab homework, exams, and MATLAB coding projects. Exams are a bit conceptual but she offers plenty of opportunities for success. Attend her MATLAB Q&As as she gives some of the solutions and even tells you how to write the code. Do all the extra credit offered.
This teacher is the worst and if you dont have coding experience and search up something in google which was in the instructions of the coding assignment she will still catch you for cheating and report you to the DSO. The school should kick her out and assign someone who makes sure their students are understanding the class
The teacher doesnt know how to teach. when she explains something leaves no room for questions and completley ignores people with their hands up.
Shes enthusiastic for the class but has no regards for teaching well. Goes to fast and doesnt explain well.
I want to take the time to write this because the programing assignments in this class are ridiculous. If you dont have previous matlab experience then expect to suffer, she expects you to complete the assignments with no previous knowledge of Matlab and is so focused on cathing you for cheating if you look up stuff in google.
There is no way 3.4/5 is accurate this teacher is the worst she doesnt teach well, doesnt answer questions and in general doesnt care about her students. if the rating was based on enthusiasm she would have a 3.4 i give her that but if you dont have a religion then get one to pray for this class
She's notorious 4 reportin way too many people to the DSO so watch out. Even if you're innocent expect there's a chance u'll get reported. Plus the DSO's notorious 4 not takin the student's side on things from what I've heard too. I thought I was done w this class only to get reported in December 4 an assignment from mid semester. This' ridiculous.
*THE SHU-JEN HUANG EXPERIENCE* -Do MATLAB assignments during the semester without help/experience. -Get accused with half of class cheating on MATLAB assignments, sending you to DSO. -Fall behind in your major (ISE) due to "I" grade from pending DSO case barring you from pre reqs Even if you didn't cheat it's bound to happen. Good Luck!
She is bad. She expects us to know everything about a software that is for math and coding for really long assignments and just rely on a discussion board for questions. Gets you reported “for cheating” even if you truly dont and does it at the end of the semester where now you have to wait till spring to know what will happen with your credit
She needs to start focusing on providing more content to learn the difficult software she wants us to use (math and coding tg) rather than being so paranoid and reporting half of the class to the DSO for looking how to use the software. Very paranoid woman, even if you don't cheat you'll be accused. Requires side recording for tests too which alr.
