Best math teacher I have had thus far in this school. Her strong accent takes a little to get used too, but once you get used to it, the class becomes better. She goes out of her way to teach the stuff.
Very good class. Review sheets are almost identical to the quizzes and midterm if you do that you should do great. She wants all of her students to understand the work. one of the best teachers i have ever had
Aw, shes soo cute! Def wants everyone to understand the material. Quiz Reviews, etc. are excellent and very helpful! Dont drop this class...it's great!
Hated this class, she is too hard to understand and only heps the kids that are doing well in the class
Despite her somewhat difficult to understand accent, she was a decent teacher. The review sheets were quite helpful, and she wanted people to do well.
This is the best math teacher I have ever had. Her accent is strong but she more than makes up for it. Her review sheets are a major plus, I wish all math teachers were like her.
Great teacher...teaches with a million examples which is great. The only people who don't like her are the ones who do bad in the class and blame it on her thick accent, which I didn't find very hard to understand at all. Definitely take her class.
shes an awesome teacher. and u just wanna pinch her cheeks shes so cute!! and shes so so nice.
Her accent is overwhelming. Its very very hard to understand what she is saying. She does use a ton of examples, but goes way to fast and you can get lost very easily. The only way to do well in this class is to teach the material to yourself.
Her accent is impossible and she only helps the kids who already know calc, if you are a troubled math student stay away from her!
shes a good professor. her accent is a little tricky to get used to, but after that, she's sweet. She gave reviews for every quiz and major test and made sure we knew the material.
OH I loved her! Depsite the thick accent, she means well. The reviews for quizzes and exams made the class easier. The final project was ridiculously easy!
She was a pretty easy teacher. Be careful with the class project... Tests weren't too hard. She's willing to give extra help as long as you're willing to put in the time. Despite her accent, a great teacher.
A very sweet lady. Wants you to know the information and constantly asks students to come to her for help. She's not that hard to understand like some ppl complain about. I recommend her class.
She is an alright teacher. Sometimes it's a bit hard to understand her because of her accent but she always makes sure to help anyone who is confused.
She gives a lot of examples, which is very nice. Doing the homework can help with your understanding of the course content. Very helpfull if you're having problems.
She was a great professor. She is always willing to help you understand the material in class. Her accent was sometimes challenging to work around in class but ask her questions if you don't understand something.
Pretty easy class. Quizzes are based on the Quiz reviews. Just study for the midterm and final. Don't even have to do the homework. Shes a pretty nice woman though hard to understand sometimes.
She is the best teacher ive had yet. Her accent is difficult to understand at times but to compensate she teaches very slowly and writes everything on the board very clearly. Grade is based on 6-7 quizes and she drops the lowest grade. The quiz review mirrors the actual quiz. I love Wu.
Great teacher. She explains everything so it is easy to comprehend. Tests and quizes are very similar to the reviews. Easy A is you go to class and pay attention.
She is the best teacher I have ever had. She is extremely nice person. She loves teaching! She helps a lot! Her explanation is easy to understand. If you don't miss her class, you can get an A easily.
Professor Wu is a wonderful person and an excellent mathematics professor. She is always willing to help her students and really cares about their grades. The class project is kind of awful, but as long as you follow the directions, you should be fine.
dont get on her bad side
wu is a great math professor. she is patient with us.
Prof Wu is the best math teacher i've ever met. I used to hate math. Now i like math because of Wu.
Prof. Wu is a great teacher. She explains material well and is willing to help. If you attend the class and pay attention, it is easy to get a good grade. I never did math well before, but I am doing very well in this course.
Her heavy accent was the most difficult aspect of class. A kid actually got a refund for the class when his dad (a lawyer) complained about it. The kid was just dumb though, and I was equally as dumb b/c I didn't do well but I liked her alot.
one of the best professors.
Prof. Wu is a good math teacher. She gave a lot of examples and explained them thoroughly. She was very enthusiastic and eager to help. I love Prof Wu.
Awesome. She has an accent but if you pay attention to her you get used to it. she gives a lot of examples and is always helpful. if you go to class pay attention and study the quiz reviews your garunteed an A. The quiz reviews are almost exactly like the quizzes same with the midterm and final, respect here and shell respect her shell respect y
Professor Wu rocks my mathematical world! She really squares my roots and and dots my imaginary i's. Her accent is contagious. I find myself speaking like her on a regular basis. By day, she is a wonderful math professor, but by night, she saves the world, one pawabowa at a time. Thank you, Dr. Wu. You have changed my mathematical life forever!
Math has always been a difficult area, but Prof. Wu goes above and beyond to make sure the students understand the material. If you aren't willing to do the work however, don't plan on getting a good grade.
She is by far one of the best professors that ive ever had in my life. the review sheets help out alot on tests and if you go to her office hours thats extra brownie points for you. she yelled at me alot for not getting stuff although i had a 98 average in her class. dont ask stupid questions and just go to class cause she knows when you dont go.
Su Wu is an amazing teacher! She is so nice and the practice tests are exactly like the real thing!
I took this class because everyone here says shes awesome! You're in for a very bad joke. She has a VERY thick accent that you just can't understand her. True, she is nice, and also that the practice quiz is same as the test. But you still can't get what she is saying. She's a robot who doesn't make a convo, just comes in and starts writing on boar
Her exam/quiz reviews were very helpful for learning the materials, though they were NOT the same as the exams/quizzes. A previous comment stated "the practice quiz is same as the test", which may mislead others. In fact, her exams were challenges.
Great Professor! Hard to understand but she's adorable and really tries to help you if you try in her class. The material was a joke but I already had two years of calculus before this class. It's super easy, easy A++ and Wu is highly entertaining. Practice tests are very very similar to the Exams- DO NOT BUY A BOOK, Homework was not necessary.
Prof. Wu taught in an intelligent way, made sure everyone understood the material, and was willing to help. She is the best math teacher I've ever had.
She is awesome. If you listen - you are gonna get a good grade. Take notes of the examples on the board cuz quizes are very similar to them and to the practice quizes.
Very bad accent . Chinese way of teaching and explaining.Don't take a class with her if you don't like math and you have to take it.
Dr. Wu is absolutely amazing. Her lectures, though not very clear, are very thorough. She gives weekly quizzes which make up the greatest part of the grade, but if you do the practice quizzes she gives, and attend class regularly, you'll be fine.
she is a great professor. I wish i can take another class with her.
Great math teacher. She wants the students to do well.
She really cares about her students and explains the material very very patiently if you don't understand and ask a question. Her accent is not hard to understand like some people stated here. Definitely study the practice quizzes and tests! I'd recommend her classes.
She's super nice and she really does want everyone to do well in the class!
I'm grateful to have taken calculus before having a class with Dr. Wu, otherwise there is no way I would've passed. Her method of explaining otherwise simple concepts is obscure and convoluted. Furthermore, her class is extremely boring. The practice quizzes she posts on blackboard are helpful, though.
It is fortunate for me to have taken Dr. Wu's Calculus. I feared math before, but have gained much confidence in math with her teaching. Her class is serious. Don't expect many jokes in class. But working hard will certainly get delightful reward.
Her accent is very thick, but she writes everything she says on the board, so you understand the point she is trying to teach you. If you don't understand something, her office hours are very helpful. She also gives practice quizzes and exams prior to the actual quizzes and exams, which show you exactly what to expect.
Great Proffessor, accent pretty thick, Always willing to help i her office hour but come prepared with thoughtful questions. She wants to see you work hard and do your best.
Accent is kind of thick but you get used to it. Wants you to do well in the class, and is really helpful during her office hours, I highly recommend going to them. Gives review sheets for quizzes and tests which are extremely helpful in preparing for them.
She is a very intelligent professor and knows her stuff. Hard to understand but you get used to her accent. She writes everything she says on the board anyway.
very nice good teacher helpful at times but all she said is you need to improve and when you where that get your act together
She does have an accent, which I can understand may be difficult for some students to understand. However I personally found that - combined with the notes on the board - she teaches the course with clarity and swiftness unusual to receive in a math course. It was my favorite class of the semester, actually. She just really knows the material.
amazing teacher. if you go to class and pay attentiondo homeworkgo to office hours you will do really well. she has an accent but its not hard to understand. i was horrible at math in high school but got an A in this class with some effort. great great greaaaaat teacher!!
A littel difficult to understand in the beginning due to her accent, but you get used to it really quickly and she writes everything clearly on the board. As long as you go and take down the notes, you'll be fine.
Shu-Shih is a great teacher. Her accent takes a bit to get used to but she writes everything, and I mean everything down, even if she does it rather quickly. If you don't understand anything, she'll help. She wants us to learn and do well.
You will love it if you take notes and pay attention in class. Just make sure to listen, its hard to understand sometimes but as long as you write down notes you will get an easy A.
I loved Wu!! She was clear and wonderful and I found her extremely helpful. For those who aren't math brained, I still think you would do well. She really just wants to see her students succeed.
Professor Wu was the first teacher who really helped me understand calculus. I loved her lectures, especially because she wrote everything on the board. If you don't understand, she is always willing to change the examples to help you grasp the concepts.
Amazing Prof if you are bad at math. Her lecture is very systematic and logical, which really help you to understand. She writes everything on the board.
Wu started the semester as the best professor I've ever had- clear, concise, and always asked whether she was going to fast and if everyone understood. However, towards the middle of the semester, she became less clear in her explanations and went too fast, in my opinion. She's a very sweet, smart woman, and an overall great professor, though.
In the beginning, Wu seemed very nice and helpful. She's at times very hard to understand and she moves on with material very quickly. She isn't very welcoming to questions. I went to her office hours a couple times & have personally experienced & witnessed her being rude to students when they do not understand material. Quizzes and tests weekly!
It's sometimes hard to understand her accent but she gives amazing lectures. If you go to class, you'll understand the topic. She'll either give a quiz or exam every week, so you need to keep up with your work. She assigns homework every lecture, but she doesn't check them so you don't have to do them if you just don't care. Put in some effort.
She can be hard to understand in the beginning but you get use to it. She really wants people to ask questions. She teaches you the subject at a super fast pace so if you are not good at calculus you won't pass, take a pre-calc class first.
Professor Wu is nice and straight to the point. She wants students to do well in the course and will help if you seek it out. She goes over the material very quickly and there is a quiz or exam every week. Go to class regularly-she takes attendance and she wants you to do the problems the way she presents them.
In Calc 1 you have a test or quiz once a week. You need to go to lectures because all the problems that she does in class are the same types she uses on the tests. The textbook is not very useful. She does drop one test and one quiz grade but is a pretty harsh grader. I went to her mid-semester and after she was more lenient on grading.
Dr. Wu is a great Calc 1 professor. She goes over everything you need to know. Pay attention to the problems she does in class because she will sometimes use the same ones on exams. She always lets you ask as many questions as you want and makes sure everyone understands before moving on. If you took IB SL math you will get an A easily.
Very nice professor. Although you may not understand her accent at first, it gets better later on. She goes through everything you need to know and gives lots of practice so don't even worry about getting a bad grade.
Took this class during the summer having never taken math reasoning or probability + stats (highly recommend taking those 2 beforehand), concepts were quite hard. That being said, Dr. Wu really does her best to make sure everybody is prepared before tests, absolutely a huge help inside + outside of class. Put time + effort in, you'll get results.
Best Math teacher I have ever got in Northeaster. Practice quiz and exam make life much easier as long as you do it.
Dr. Wu is a really caring and respected professor. She is straight forward. She makes sure to teaches all that's gonna show up on the test. Textbook has no use basically. As long as you take note and do the practice test, you will be fine.
Professor Wu is a very caring professor and is very accessible outside of class. The exams are extremely straightforward and the practice exams are super helpful. Would choose her again even if it means waking up at 7:30 every day!
Professor Wu is a great calc 2 teacher who clearly understands the material very well. Her tests are just like the practice exam and if you do the homework and prepare you will do well.
Dr. Wu is an amazing professor. She teaches things the more traditional Asian way, where you go through a TON of examples in class of every type of problem you need to know. Each problem is explained very thoroughly and she writes everything out. As long as you make sure you understand and do the practice tests, you'll be fine.
Professor Wu really wants her students to succeed. I am not a math person, but she made calculus understandable and interesting for me. The test questions are based on the problems she explains during lecture, so it is very important to attend class. The textbook can be helpful if you need another perspective of what she discusses during lecture.
She's not a bad professor by any means. But I was definitely one of the people who her teaching style didn't really work for. She does a lot of examples of various scenarios but it doesn't always get the idea across the best. If I hadn't already taken this class before I would have struggled. She's also very rigid about her policies.
Wu really tries her best to make sure everyone is prepared for tests. If you put in the work and pay attention in class, you'll do well. The only trouble I had was that she has a strong accent and it was difficult for me to understand her at times.
She's dedicated and eager to re-explain problems that you don't understand. Attend class, take good notes, practice given materials and you will get good grade
Professor Wu is very sweet and really wants to make sure you understand the material. At times, you can't always understand exactly what she is referring to but she makes sure to write everything down on the board and take questions after every problem. There's 5 tests, but she'll drop your lowest grade at the end. Great choice for a calc teacher!
Dr. Wu was a really good professor. There were a lot of example problems, and would offer help whenever needed. I would definitely recommend her for math, as she made it a lot easier for me to understand!
I don't consider myself to be good at Math but Dr. Wu really wants her students to do well. She explains concepts clearly and does lots of examples in class that are similar to homework, quiz and test questions. She is willing to help you in any way she can. If you understand the material and do your homework, you will be fine!
Professor Wu provides a lot of practice problems and I found it so helpful. While she runs through material somewhat quickly, she posts handouts online of the classwork. She is also very understanding of her students.
Prof. Wu gives clear lectures and sends class materials before class so that it is easy to keep up with. Also, she did a lot of examples that are similar to the tests. If you do the sample test and take notes in class, you will absolutely get a great grade.
Professor Wu is effective and answers questions well. She posts lecture materials and practice exams on Canvas for you to look at outside of class. Homework is not mandatory but it is good practice for exams. This class is not very difficult but is definitely easier if you have prior knowledge of calculus.
Dr. Wu is my favorite professor. She goes through material very efficiently -can take time to get used to speed. She welcomes questions and checks if anyone is confused. The homework is not mandatory but helpful before weekly quizzes. The quizzes are also helpful to study for exams. Don't buy the textbook - only need it for hw and can find online
Sometimes hard to understand and very detached, Don't take her if you have trouble with any the concepts you will learn
Dr. Wu is a caring, friendly professor, but sometimes she is hard to understand. This makes it hard to get clarification on in class questions. If you have never taken calculus before, make sure you get ahead before this class starts. There is a test every other week, so there basically is no downtime in the class.
She never talks about the concepts of math, so if you're genuinely interested in exploring this topic do not take her. If you don't already have a calc background, this class is going to be really hard for you. Tests are every other week and aren't bad if you do well on the practice exam.
Professor Wu's class requires you to have some basic knowledge of differential calculus, otherwise you will have a hard time fully understanding what she is talking about in class. You'll take an exam every two weeks on what you have learned during those two weeks. There is nothing difficult about this course as long as you review it carefully.
test heavy - six tests determined grade
Professor Wu is very efficient and straightforward in lecture. It is clear what she will test you on. She is very traditional: Chalk board lecture, no Zoom classes, and tests are on paper. You should go to class to better understand the material, and she holds office hours before every exam. Do tons of practice problems in order to do well
Nice enough person and clearly understands the material, however she simply should not be teaching it. Goes through material extremely fast, finishes units a week before the exam and starts the next unit before we even review for the test on the old material. She is also difficult to understand, especially online. Prac exam v similar to actual exam
this is my second time taking this class and im barely passing. just do yourself a favor and never take this professor. never even saw their face once the whole semester. extremely impersonal class experience, you're just a box on zoom. supposed to be calc 1 but doesn't even teach calc. u need to already know/have taken calc to even do decent
Absolutely would not recommend. Extremely impersonal, switched class to zoom only after registration, doesn't even turn on camera and difficult to understand. Lectures are very confusing. I dont even know what she looks like as the TA does literally everything. Exams every other week in person, no notes but the textbook and exams are very helpful.
Dr. Wu is the best math teacher I have had in my 19 years of life. There is a lot of homework, but if you do it, you will do well. The way Dr.Wu teaches is super clear, and there are problem sessions you can attend if you have questions about the HW.Grade is fully exam based but she gives practice exams which are super similar to the actual exams.
If you haven't taken clac, avoid professor. She copies down the notes she posts, word for word. I taught myself every topic because she expects you to have prior knowledge. If you don't do well on an exam, your grade plummets. When asked a question, she doesn't explain, but points to work on the board. If you miss an exam, there are no makeups.
If you don't have prior calc knowledge, this class might be difficult. Coming in with knowledge, I found that Dr. Wu taught concepts clearly and effectively. She gives practice tests that are almost exactly like the actual test. However, there are only 6 tests. If you do the optional homework, you should be fine.
Professor Wu is great at explaining concepts, and has a clear and concise way of teaching. However, she only grades based on 6 exams and a final. She also moves through material extremely quickly. Coming in with only precalc knowledge and no background in calc, keeping up was tough. Do as much of the homework as you can and show up to lectures.
Prof. Wu is good at explaining concepts. She provides students with several examples, but ask questions if confused. She will not delve further into what you may not understand unless questions are asked, but she leaves several opportunities for questions. She speaks quietly & writes small, so sit in the front. Go to class and do the HW to learn!
6 quizzes (60%) 1 final (40%), TA's are super hard graders and no extra credit to even pass the class. Good luck if you have her your gonna need it truly. Hard to understand her and she moves very fast and will send you into the waste lands if you ask her questions.
I came into Professor Wu's class with a fairly decent understanding of calculus but am absolutely lost by how she teaches it. Extremely fast paced, doesn't review well, barely "teaches," (most of the class is just going over texbook problems), and an extremely hard/weird grader (she took 3/5 points off for the way I showed a fraction). Beware!
I'm sure she's a lovely human being but she is an awful teacher. She did not explain how to do anything and only wrote practice problems on the board to teach. If you asked a question, she would flame you and make you feel dumb. Your grade is determined by 6 exams so if you mess one up your grade suffers. You need to already know calc to pass.
Grade is based on only six tests and final - no xtra credit, homework, participation, etc (despite attendance taken every class). If you fail one or two tests, there's a good chance you're failing the class. Hard to understand what she's saying and doesn't post any of her notes online. Also would yell degradingly whenever a question was asked.
Grade is only test based and lectures are like watching a youtube video. Very sweet prof but the lecture style didnt work for me. Doesn't post worked out problems online (only a note outline is posted). Gives a review packet before each test that is similar to the exam. Grading doesn't give much partial credit and it's hard to maintain an A.
Her guidelines and grading are clear and harsh. She just goes over problems in class and that's it. If you haven't taken calc before it's nearly impossible to learn it from her. If you come to her with questions she'll try to answer them but usually doesn't answer the right question. She takes attendance but it isn't in your grade.
Lectures are very straightforward and you just do a bunch of in-class practice problems. She goes at a pretty fast pace, so if you have questions you HAVE to ask because she will just continue and assume you understand everything. Exams were pretty similar to class problems and homework with nothing out of the scope of content.
She seems like a very nice woman, however, her teaching skills are non-existent. She only does practice problems on the board at Mach 3 and does not explain any steps whatsoever. She simply reads out loud what she writes. We are only graded based on 5-6 exams. Be prepared to teach yourself every topic especially if you haven't taken calculus.
Class finds it difficult to understand her verbally as well as when she "teaches". This consists of writing examples on the board at the speed of light without any explanation. By the time you have written down all the information for one example & have maybe caught a tiny grasp of what is going on, she is half way through the next problem.
Grade is determined by 6 exams, and it's very easy to lose points as the TA's are tough graders. Can easily get a C on an exam from just getting 2 questions wrong (coming from experience). She has a pretty thick accent, so sometimes it's hard to understand her clearly. If you want a good grade, be ready to put in all the effort outside of class.
Main reason I got a decent grade was because I took Calc 1 in HS. Attendance isnt required but still show up bc she doesnt post the classwork online. Nice woman but she doesnt rlly teach she just does the problems. A positive of the class is the practice exams are very similar to the real exams. 6 exams are 60% of grade, final exam is 40% of grade
I would rather drop out than take another class with Dr. Wu. Almost everyone in my section dropped, the entire grade was based on quizzes and the final. Partial credit was rarely given. She did not care that almost the entire class was failing. I learned nothing except how not to fail this class. If I could give her a 0 I would.
Calculus is not very difficult, but mistakes happen, yet she rarely delivers partial credit (a problem can be solved correctly with a minus error, and you bomb this question). You will receive carpel tunnel trying to keep up with her reciting problems, and good luck understanding what she says. You will be laughed at if you ask a question.
She's a sweet lady but her teaching style doesn't work for me. She sits and does problems (doesn't explain what she's doing) on the board and expects you to ask questions when you're lost. She has argued and got mad at people for asking questions before. Tests are the only grades in this class and there is no extra credit. Tough grader.
She acts like she has never used canvas before. She teaches nothing. She grades nothing. Her calculus is absolutely insane and nothing like a.) the textbook b.) nothing like the calc I learned in AP calc and c.) nothing like what people in other sections are learning. I wish I had dropped her class after the first day.
Genuinely one of the worst professors I have ever had. If you're registered to have her - drop while you can. She's a nice lady but genuinely has no clue how to teach, clearly doesn't care when the majority of her class is failing, completely insane and ridiculous. I actually cannot believe she is allowed to keep teaching.
If you have not taken calculus in high school, you will fail this class. This class is akin to a bad review session for AP Calc, except she writes too fast, is near impossible to understand, and explains literally none of her problems. If you can listen to one review I beg of you, please listen to mine.
The worst teacher I have ever had. Doesn't actually "teach" anything, just copies down whatever is on the piece of paper she has. If you have 0 prior knowledge of calc, you are most likely going to fail. P sure a lot of ppl in my section were struggling, and unsure if she will curve final grade (highly doubt it). If you can, DO NOT TAKE HER
the class was just walking through problems and didn't give help on problem solving so when getting to the tests you'd be lost on your own.
I'm not the best at math, but she made this class harder then it should've been. I learned more by teaching myself outside of class then I did with her. She goes very fast so you really only have time to copy down the problems and not really understand them unless math is your thing. If I had to take calc again I'd opt for another prof.
This is an easy-to-understand and breeze of a course only if you have taken calculus before. Can be a frustrating class if you do not know what is going on or get lost, she will just tell you to check canvas. TA's and their office hours + practice problems/exams are your best friend. Your grade is only the exams which is a lot of pressure!
I studied so hard for this class, putting in the extra work and attending every class but still didn't pass. She is such a harsh grader and genuinely doesn't care if her students do well or not and she doesn't have any compassion for students. Such a bad professor
Shu-Shi Wu doesn't care about your success. She's an awful teacher, can't understand anything. If you haven't taken calc before in high school you will fail her class. Northeastern needs to fire her. Worst professor to teach math ever. Waste of tuition money to get professors like her. Avoid at all costs. I worked so hard for my B and struggled.
Professor Wu explains concepts clearly, but the lecture-heavy format and full exam-based grading make this class quite challenging. Combining the textbook, practice exams, and tools like unstuck AI can help you succeed.
Shu-Shih Wu should definitely be avoided. She yelled at me while I was trying to find my graded test and accused me of looking at other people's test grades even though I was not. I got very weirded out. Her accent makes it hard to understand her however if you have already taken a Calculus course in the past, you should be fine.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had the displeasure of having. No introductions, no name knowing, nothing. She quite literally walked into the room the first day of class, got out her notebook, connected to the tv & started talking at us. No one understood what was going on & her teaching was simply awful.
Shes a very nice person and in theory would be a good teacher. However, she is very hard to understand. There are weekly quizzes and a good class structure, but it definitely isn't easy.
She simply does not know how to teach. Her lectures are not very effective at all. The only reason I am doing well in the class is because I self teach and have taken calculus in high school.
She was one of the worst professor's I've had here at Northeastern. She has a very thick accent which can make it hard to understand her. You are only graded on 6 exams and then the final. I have done a lot of self-studying and tutoring which has helped a lot. I also took Calculus in highschool. I would not recommend her at all!
She is genuinely a very bad professor. The class is only graded by 6 exams and the final, but you can drop your lowest exam grade which helps. The only reason I am doing well in the class is because I took Calculus in high school..
Literally the worst class I've ever taken. Please don't take this class if you have any option for another prof. Course is insanely difficult and based off of 6 exams (w/ 1 drop) + final. Practice exams look like the exam but it's different content. Please take another professor if you need this course or wait until a different semester to take it.
You're only graded by 6 tests and 1 final (you can drop your lowest test grade but that doesn't help much). She tends to overcomplicate pretty much every topic and doesn't know how to actually teach
Took her Calc class over the summer and she honestly made the subject way less intimidating. If you attend class regularly and go through her practice exams, you'll be in good shape. She's a really caring professor who genuinely wants you to succeed and always encourages questions during class—definitely take advantage of that!
HUGE L ! Choose another professor for this course. She speeds through problems without much explanation of the logic, making lectures barely effective cuz that's what she does the whole class. You will be left behind, even if you study lots. Her handwriting isn't the best and is not clear. Passed this course by self learning. Practice tests helped.
Personally I could not understand the material studying under her. She is incredibly good at covering material, but only through fast paced lectures, which I could not keep up whatsoever. Anyone who needs more in depth lectures SHOULD NOT take her! Wait to take a different professor! Same with hard of hearing folks, heavy accent. Not her fault tho
She's obviously very good at math, which you'll pick up on when you try to ask any question ever and she'll make sure to be condescending about it. She doesn't explain what she's doing (for the most part) when she teaches, and simply speeds through example problems for 99% of the class. Better to just not attend and read the textbook IMO.
If you are not strong in math try to switch to another class! First red flag was that calculators were banned, her classes follow the same structure where she lectures for the entire class period VERY FAST. She also has an accent which makes her difficult to understand and her explanations are not very helpful. Although she is very kind.
Such a hard class if you did not take AP Calc
If you struggle with math, find ANY other professor because she does not explain the material well at all.
Her practice quizzes are exactly like her quizzes! She is amazing and very thorough with teaching every concept!!
I have taken calc before so take what I say with a grain of salt. All of the reviews saying she didn't stop and answer questions are untrue. She goes fast but she definitely explains material if you ask her to. Go to TA office hours before tests. I used textbook problems as a way to study rather than as daily homework and that worked well for me.
If available take another professor or be ready to teach yourself. The teacher speeds through the class and her lectures are just solving example problems on the board without really explaining. It is also very hard to understand her accent, and she doesn't post what she solves in class on canvas just the problems without the solutions.
I need to take one math for graduate. this is very hardclass. my situation is little different, cuz I didn't touch math for such a long period so it's extremely time consume for me. The quiz is easy is you study all the martials. final exam is covering the entire semester, that's way toomany things to refresh. good luck if you are taking her class
genuinely don't take her unless you HAVE to. The professor just lectures by doing practice problems and not explaining herself and you will have to teach yourself everything. I also couldn't understand her in the slightest. If you care about a good grade or your mental health just save yourself and don't take this class
I loved Prof Wu, but I totally get why she might not be others' cup of tea. Her lectures are mostly practice problems on the board, which I liked because I learn better that way. It's fast paced, but she does a good job answering and explaining questions. Grades are mostly from the exams. Do practice problems for homework and use other sources!!
If you can take 1241 with someone else, do it. Do not recommend if you haven't taken calc in the past. Doesn't teach, the final is 40% of your grade. The rest of your grade is based off 6 exams, so you will have tests every other week. You end up having to teach yourself the unit. Her TA's are good, her office hours are useless.
She is AMAZING at teaching! Her practice exams prepare you perfectly for her tests! I recommend her!!!
Awesome! Take her class, fair grader
She cares about her students and goes through new lessons slow and thoroughly!
I loved Dr. Wu, however I think if I hadn't taken calc BC before I'd be saying something different. Grade is 40% the final&other 60% is made of 6 exams. She's super sweet&I personally like her lectures, as she goes through practice problems, but I can see where some may prefer another teaching style. She's super kind and wants students to succeed.
Dr. Wu prepares you well for the exams. I've taken calc AB before, so this was mainly a review for me. However, she's very sweet and she doesn't speed through lectures like most professors do, and makes sure that every student has finished copying down what she's written before moving on.
If you've taken Calc before, you shouldn't worry about this class. I've seen a lot of mixed reviews and was worried when registering for her class. I found that her class was challenging but she prepares students well for the quizzes, and if you put in the effort, you shouldn't worry. She's a very nice person and never rushes through lectures
she isn't a goof professor for someone who has never taken Calc before doesn't really explain the logic behind the material ur honestly better off getting a tutor and teaching yourself from the material since it comes straight from the textbooks in the syllabus. Very test heavy
two words, good luck.
Honestly so much better than my first calf prof (looking at you aliska gibbins!!) if you attend lectures and do the extra homework from the textbook you're set, the quizzes can be kinda hard but she goes over practice quizzes before every one and they are basically the same as the real thing. she does have a thick accent though
Dr. Wu was not a good professor. Her lectures do essentially nothing and her office hours with her and the TA's weren't helpful for understanding material. Beware of this class if you haven't taken AP calc. You will struggle to grasp some of the concepts since she doesn't actually teach.
Shu-Shih Wu is a caring professor, but the TAs were condescending at times. The practice final and actual final didn't match in difficulty. To be successful, attend every class, especially for the format of answers, but also set aside time to study/practice. Have this class be alongside other low-time-commitment classes, not Arch studios!!
