He tried hard to make the class interesting but it just isn't. He's kinda hard to understand because of his accent. The tests are somewhat easy if you study.
hard to understand.tests come from the powerpoint lectures.offers extra credit field trip to the musuem, central tx,and galvaston.
Tests come from powerpoint and the CD that comes from the book. Curves 3 tests at the end of semester. Really likes to ask questions to everyone in the class, especially the ones sleeping.
Dr. Khan is one of the best teachers i've had at UH. He is very passionate about Geology and wants you to be too. If you come to ALL classes and go on field trips, regardless on if you need them, he will remember your name the first day of class, and you will do GREAT! Don't need to buy book, doesn't use it and it doesn't help whatsoever.
Its funny, I thought i'd really bad in this class. My average was certainly not the A- I recieved for the class. Yet, i tried hard on all the tests and I told him I really need to make a good grade for the class to stay at the college. His jokes are a lil corny, but he does as the first commenter stated, cares about geology. Go to the field trips.
He is my best teacher
I was engg. major taking Dr. Khan's class made me decide to major in geology
This class was NOT hard. The power points he gives you are adequete to study for a good test grade. I found the class to be very boring. He does give beyond generous curves. the class is 4 tests and he drops the lowest test grade. I would recommend you sign up for his class.
Goes above and beyonf to help students with questions. Awesome grading scale
He is a great prof.
Easy class! Just bring a cup of coffee or a pillow because you WILL fall asleep!!! Not the professors fault because hes very passionate towards geology but its about ROCKS!! so if you are not into that (which is a majority of people) fair warning!!!
I enjoyed this course very much. Dr. Khan shows many photos and video clips and give real-world examples of the principles being taught. His enthusiasm and passion for geology and how he passed that along to his students with his teaching style is impressive.
The best part of the course is about environmental geology that talks about water quality and global warming. I like that he drops the lowest grade. Overall Dr. Khan did a god job in presenting and teaching the course. I learned some valuable information and knowledge.
I highly recommend taking this professor. Geol 1330 is a very easy class. Khan is a passionate geology professor who knows all his students by name and cares about their grades. No need to buy the textbook; he puts all the notes on the internet.
Generous Prof. I failed my first two test and still made a B-. Test are super-hard but he curves like crazy. MUST DO EXTRA CREDIT. curves the overall grade too. lectures extremely boring but you should go so that he knows you and thinks you are interested.
The most important aspect of this course to me was the ability of the professor to teach the class with full energy and enthusiasm. Dr. Khan has excellent knowledge in his subject and he is very caring and always willing to help students.
I enjoyed the central texas field trip that is an extra credit, got to have a first hand experience w/ the rocks. Prof. Khan was extremely pleasent, very enthusiastic and caring, easy to tlak to and always ready to help. I would give him a 12 out of a scale of 10.
Easy for a science course. No book necessary, unless you want an A. I made a B by just reading the powerpoint slides, and going to a field trip (for extra credit). This professor is passionate about geology, he gets all excited about rocks while half the class are apathetic. It is still more interesting than Bio though.
Prof. Khan is awesome
Dr Khan is the most caring lecturer I've ever met. He goes out of his way to help AND he is so enthusiastic about Geology and GIS.
PAINFUL ATTITUDE
I liked Dr. Khan's sense of humor and the way of his teaching. He make sure the studnets understand the concepts. Great Teacher, Great Class. TAKE THIS TEACHER
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS PROFESSOR!!!! He shows that he cares for each and every single one of his students by taking only a week to learn every single students name (and for a class of 100+ thats a lot!) He is approachable, and wants every student to succeed! Take him!!
Easy class Great guy funny short tough accent water wapor, vapur, WATER VAPOR !! lol this guy is funny great field trip worth it extra credit opps take notes on what he says in class not jsut the slide test straign off of his word in class.. i learned that till the end lol but still passed its an interesting course c'mon who doesn't like rocks!!
I didnt know what the class was till i took it. Easy, nice professor. How I got an A i dont even know! But you need to read the book, it helps to answer the questions at the end of the chapter, usually he uses that on the test. Field trip was so worth it, and he is very kind. If you get to know him well, and put effort in class, you will do well
I too read rmp before taking this class and believe me I made a BIG MISTAKE! I thought he was going to be easy, and he said his tests were going to be easy. They weren't! On the final, he gave the class a 11 question review, and there was 50 questions on the test! I don't like his way of teaching. I fell asleep everyday. Don't take him!
The way that professor khan would communicate with the students, and explain the material no matter how many times a question was asked. He also showed he cared when he knew all of our names in a way I still don?t know how he did
I made a mistake by taking his class! I thought it was going to be easy, but when it came to the test almost half the class failed! Do not take him!
I highly recommend taking physical geology and GIS classes with Dr. Khan. He's funny and approachable. He does ask questions in the class, most of these question he ask for explanation. He prepares you well for exams. Take him.
Prof. Khan is very helpful and knows what he teaches. I love the class because of professor’s enthusiasm
I loved Dr. Khan's classes and I strongly recommend him
A lot of people think that because Dr. Khan is so nice they will get their grades for nothing. You can easily get A grade, but you need to study, prepare labs, prepare the project, and prepare for the 2 exams.Loved the class and the explanations. He does not require more material than is given in his lectures or during the labs. Aziz was a cool TA.
This class was interesting but if you care about your GPA I would NOT recommend this class! The exams are more difficult than necessary for a general course. Exam grades were all over the place. The average grades were low B's and C's.
U of H needs 100 more professors just like Dr. Khan. Great class!!
Horrible professor, his tests wer hard and had little relations to what was taught in class. His accent was annoying and it was hard for me to understand him. Also he rushed through his lectures and never gave any reviews. Please do not take him, I suffered in that class
Prof Khan provided multiple opportunities of extra credit anyone who wanted to make a good grate had many chances. On top he gave great lectures
Dr. Khan's a nice guy and gives many opportunities for extra credit, but I think he made his class hard after finding out that people took his class for an easy A. His tests were confusing and not representative of the material in class, his lectures were boring and unhelpful, (the slides were good though) and the class overall was just unpleasant.
Don't let Khan's pleasant demeanor FOOL you! HIS CLASS IS AWFUL!! Lectures were boring, and they did not represent the material covered on the exams. The exams were difficult, as the lectures do not prepare you. Most will breathe a sigh of relief when this class is over!
I came to class everyday, studied for the tests, did all the extra credit he assigned, and I still managed a B in this class! Dr. Khan hardly gave a review, and his tests were worded very strangely. He's a nice guy and passionate in what he does, but don't take him if you're expecting an easy A or not interested in geology.
Dr. Khan took time to learn every student's name and made us feel like people rather than a number in asystem
Dr. Khan is very effective teacher! Dr. Khan needs to be more specific on the tests
Outstanding professor. He is very helpful and excited about teaching. He makes going to class interseting.
Great teacher. Very nice and informative. He does try to learn everyones names so you have to go to class bc he will know if you aren't there. Labs take time but are actually easy and interesting. 2 Tests and a group project. Very willing to help students succeed.
Great guy, fairly tough class. He'll remember your name after one comment, so try to be present and participate. Labs are time-consuming, but ArcGIS is pretty cool. Labs are 40% so take them seriously, and two tests are 20% each.
Dr. Khan is great! 40% of grade is lab, 5% participation, 20% each test (there are 2) which are pretty easy but you must study and know little details from powerpoints. Easy to get an A if you try but labs take forever so be warned.
Awesome professor! Got a memory of an elephant, he doesn't forget ANYTHING!! LOL, enjoyed his class and jokes, hope to take Remote Sensing with him in the fall.
Pretty cool dude, really knows his stuff, if you want an A do some general reading to familiarize yourself more with the terminology and concepts, the book is not too bad.
Not very clear when it comes to tests and assignments. Gives a "test review" before each test, but hardly anything from there is actually on the exam. If you like stress and reading processing a ton of boring information, this is the class for you.
An above average professor. He gives a lot of extra credit, even though they're like 10 hour field trips... He curves tests and there is only one assignment: a group project using Google Earth. Just 3 tests (he dropped 1) and a "final" that isn't comprehensive. Pretty good teacher overall. He likes to call on people a lot though, so pay attention!
3 tests (drops one), non-cumulative final, & google earth project. He curves final grades. Pretty good about grading policy but can be slightly rude as he does pick on his students A LOT. Good idea to read the book as a lot of questions come from there that he doesn't go over in class. Be ready to take good notes!
The group project was crucial to the final grade.
Dr. Khan is a very effective teacher! However the labs associated with this class has outrageous number of assignments that take up too much tim. Labs teach the application of the program but too many
Not an easy class. you have to read the text and his slides in order to pass!
The labs are time consuming, so make sure to account for that. Lectures are good, he will tell you "Possible Test Question" or comment "I've used this on past tests". There are only Two tests. Study for them a lot (lecture slides) and understand concepts from lab if anything new is introduced. Start early on the group project as well.
Tests are deceptively hard, he's way too passionate about geology, at the expense of actual teaching like if the class average is a 69 (after the last exam), the professor is part of the problem. I can't wait to be done with it. Don't take him unless you have to and if you do, best of luck :/
Very organized and interesting lectures. One of my favorite professor at UH
The extra credit field trips can boost you an entire letter grade. They fill up really quickly so sign up ASAP. There is a group project, but he's not strict on the grading. There's attendance credit, so show up to class. He gave a generous curve, (from a D to a B) I recommend him.
Wants his students to succeed, but he is *not* a pushover; he stands firm on most of his requirements. Lab assignments need serious improvement in design. They're basic tutorials that aren't conducive to learning; this is a problem when it comes to the lab exam. Group projects require frequent and accurate communication between group members.
Very passionate
Dr. Khan is great prof with generous grading
There's literally only 4 tests and thats it. Nothing else!
Dr. Khan is a very knowledgeable guy who's been teaching for many years. He really cares about his students, especially those who are willing to put in effort. This class should be an easy A or B if you spend a few hours studying for each test. He gives a large curve at the end, and if you go on the field trip you get even more extra credit.
He's a great professor! The lectures can be a bit heavy but as long as you take notes and study you won't have any issue passing the course. He also gives out extra credit on your overall grade. Don't attend this course if you are looking for an easy A without doing the work. I also highly recommend attending the field trips he leads.
The lectures are long and not interactive.
3 tests make up 60% of your grade and the lectures are really long
The best part about this course is the assignments. Google earth was fun to use.
I enjoyed the group project very much. It gave me a better understanding of the material, created a better working environment with others, and added more participation with the students
Unless you really care about geology, do not take this class. I found it absolutely lengthy and a waste of time. He "teaches" about 30-50 slides and only about 5-10 slides actually include information that reflects the test. Throughout my time in his class, he seems to force participation. Overall he gives more information than needed.
Great professor and interesting class. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you don't show up he will notice.
Very friendly professor; labs are easy and exams are generously curved.
The prof is not really engaging nor does he really provide anything to interest you. His reviews are very broad and long. Assignments are a bit tough to which he will not provide any help with. He'll curve a test grade but all your tests make up a huge chunk of your grade. Just wouldn't recommend at all.
I honestly enjoyed the professor the most. He was very positive and good at communicating. Course wise, I'd say visually seeing different geological features. I learned how beautiful certain rocks could be and it made me want to see more of the country (if not world)
He's just generally a guy that's entertaining and seems like he wants the best for you.
Honestly shocked by my grade. Lab assigments every week. Each lab taking more than class time. Tests were mostly mcq and 3 to 2 short answers. It's a valuable skill but expect the worst to prepare yourself. I wouldn't say it was easy.
Prof Khan is very knowledgeable & engaging. He will learn your name and call on you in class when you least expect it so pay attention! And there's no hiding in the back of the classroom, he will find you. There is always a group project & the exams can be difficult. His lectures are engaging and he emphasizes concept learning not answer learning.
He is a very caring, motivating professor wanting the best for his students. He is also very attentive - he would instantly see who comes to class and who does not. There are many homeworks yet you realize that you learn a lot at the end of semester. Definitely teaches you a skill that can help you land a job.
I really enjoyed the labs. Although the labs were difficult, they were very fun and taught me so much about remote sensing
Dr. Khan is a passionate professor that is very knowledgeable on the subject. Always enjoy having Dr. Khan as an instructor.
Dr. Khan is quite the character. Show up to class, he'll notice that you aren't there. Participation matters. Lectures are engaging but can go off topic. 2 difficult mc tests and free response. 1 lab exam (easy) Week long lab assignments. Final group project, be ready to be critiqued on everything. Graded individually on your part of the project.
I have taken Dr. Khan for both 3383 & 4331 and received a B+ in each course. There's usually 2 tests, 10 lab assignments (time consuming and you need a PC or you must use the computer lab), and the main focus -- the semester long group project. Dr. Khan curves well and as long as you participate you'll be fine. Lack of attendance will be noticed.
Disorganized class. Assignment link broken and typos in exam. Unprofessional TAs. Tests were back to back and not enough time given to review in between. This class is harder than my 3000 and 4000 lvl classes.
Dr. Khan is an excellent professor who makes challenging topics for non-majors easy and entertaining.
There is no reason I should be failing this class when I am taking 3000&4000 lv psych courses as a senior! The class is not even hard but the grading is so trash, and the TAs are unnecessarily tough on grading. Not to mention, they are very rude! My other geo class(meteo) is not nearly as bad as this. Stay away from this class, it's not an easy A.
If you're looking for an easy science credit, TAKE THIS CLASS. Only thing I will say is that there are only 4 assignments which means most of your grade depends on your exam scores. However he drops one of the exam scores and there is PLENTY of extra credit. In total, there are 4 assignments, 4 exams, and 1 group project
I always felt motivated after attending his classes. Knowledgeable and caring professor.
As a non-science major, I found Physical Geology to be a challenging class. However, Professor Khan made it entertaining and engaging, providing ample opportunities for extra credit to improve our grades.
Had him last semester and things started pretty ok. He's engaging and funny but has weird attendance policy. He claims he doesn't take attendance every class but takes a mental note whether you're there or not. On the plus side, he gives a lot of chances for extra credit.
Very passionate about the course material and includes research and examples currently being worked on.
