Worse math teacher i ever had
One of the worst math teachers I have ever had. She is very hard to understand and isn't really helpful. I basicly had to teach myself with the math book because she was so bad.
Horrible teacher, told me to drop her class due to my working full time, even though it didn't conflict with school schedule. She acts like you're stupid if you ask questions. And she gets upset if you don't get it after asking & enduring her explanation
Took a few semesters back. Couldn't really follow her. While there's many math professors at Citrus who have heavy accents of some kind, I'm able to understand most of them. Cummins...didn't fit that mold. Not recommended unless you're a self-starter.
I went into her class knowing Algebra well. I now have a hard time adding fractions. Stay away!!! She made me dumber...Booo!!!
If you are into punishing yourself, she's the one for you. She will change your opinion of instructors, and it's obvious she's close to retirement. I received my first test back with an F. Never in my college time have I ever received an F.
Well, she is very nice, but not very helpful.I have taken her college algebra this summer semester. She didn't finish the whole book that I am very disapointed.Furthermore, she made some mistake during the class, and I always correct her.haha~!self-study la.
Took Math 150 my freshman semester at Citrus. Took the class from 8:00 am to 8:50 am monday through friday. not the smartest thing to do. The way she is, is my way or you fail. I got many of the answers correct but in my way not hers and still failed.
she is so rude and she does not speak good english
I know that I'm just an international student, her english is better than me (right now), and I know that I am bad add math, but she make me hate mathematics even more !!!!
Added in a lot of useless info. that was not in the book and just made everyone confussed
I know that I'm sucks at math, but she gave me D!!! (at least I deserve C :)
She was very clear and concise and she totally made algebra understandable for the first time in my life. She's the best math teacher I've had in a long long time.
Ah, she has the most thick accent you could possibly have, and she is teaching a subject that is already riddled with its own language. Not a good combo, she was just so very difficult to understand.
She is unclear and has a thick accent. She was so impatient and gave a lot of homework. If you don't have any patience, don't take her. I dropped by the second week.
Shes a sweet teacher, very nice. BUT...the way she teaches is hard to follow. She can be tough when it comes to tests, and sometimes the problems on the tests are the problems you've never seen before!
choose another pro.
Professor Cummins is one of the best teachers I've had for Math. I understood her method of teaching. Yes it's hard at times but best solution is get into groups and have study group after class. I recommend taking her. I have for 3 times.
i had a good time in this class and it was pretty easy
Very easy to pass. I took her for 130 and 150, and will be taking her for 170. She has her own style of teaching. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK, just photocopy homework pages needed. I did it for both classes and passed with ease.
Professor Cummins is an awesome teacher. She is available to help with any problems during her office hours and teaches several methods so that you can use the methods you best understand. If you don't want to work, don't take her. You get what you earn. Her accent is not that bad. Don't be mislead.
She is so hard to understand & she asked me to drop her class & let someone else add because I work fulltime & also had an English class & a boyfriend. I refused, she was unhappy, & I worked my butt off (despite her horrible teaching) & got a B in the class & math is my worst subject.
Very difficult. I'm not the best at math to begin with, but she made things much more difficult. I would try to ignore her and just read the book, but it didn't help very much because she's strict about using her methods. AVOID if possible! I barely passed, and it was a tough experience.
Professor Cummins is passionate about her subject AND her students. Yes, she has a little bit of an accent but you pick up on it quickly. She will help you as much as she can even beyond her office hours. She cares about us not just as students but as people. Yes, she not easy but its a Math class! If you are a slacker don't take her class.
cummins is not a bad teacher. a lot of people dont like her because they cant understand the math, but thats not her fault. granted, learning the material is difficult, but dont take it out on her. she actually tries to help you, and she cares for you as a person like previously stated. she does have an accent, but it doesnt really get in the way.
professor cummins is really nice. The only thing is that she is tough on her grading. Her tests are not easy, and she'll collect hwk whenever she feels like it. Best to do your hwk. But to be honest, her hwk doesnt really help. She is pretty stern with the grading on the hwk too.
This is funny... 10 yrs ago I took a class taught by this instructor... I had trouble understanding her then. The funny thing is that her English hasn't improved in 10 yrs! GEEZ. And she's in the study abroad program!
I really enjoyed her class. She is very organized and analytical and I love the way she explains math, it just makes sense. She is tough, but fair. Do your homework! I got an A in both Elementary and Intermediate Algebra.
she is a pain, very unclear and very opinionated on personal study habits. She expects around 3-4 hrts of hw a night. EVEN IF U GO 5 DAYS A WEEK. She is the second worst teacher at the school besides Mrs Lawrence. Do not sign up for her class, she is a pain in the butt, I would definitely recomend dropping out of school before taking her class.
Compared to the other math teachers she is one of the best. She gives extra points everytime you solve a problem on the board, the homework is for your own good, as long as you do the homework and you dont miss days its an easy A. If math is not subject dont blame the teacher.
She treats her class like they're in the 1st grade. SHE ACTUALLY TEACHES WAYS TO SUBTRACT. I couldn't believe it. And her accent is annoying. I literally hate her
I just can't freakin understand her! It is so annoying...that and she just wont smile when i tell her to so i can take a freakin picture.
Really Tough and quick to rush through the math work without alot of time for questions. Halfway through the course, I realized that the way the class was going I could not pass so I dropped it.
She's very nice. I had a lot of problems in my own life the first time I took her, instead of dropping me (which she should have), she kept me there and worked to make sure I passed. Took another teacher, and then missed having her to help.. lol
Yikes!

I think she does a good job teaching but she extends simple steps which may confuse some people...
She is a good teacher in the way that she lets things go. the bad thing about her is that she goes into to much detail where it is not important and where it is she confuses you. BOTOM LINE PICK SOME ONE ELSE
Terrible. She's unclear and unhelpful-marks answers wrong that are correct according to the back of the book because she "didn't like how (the book) put the answer", yells at us when we're confused, and takes off points if we don't do the problem exactly how SHE prefers, even if the answer is right and all the work is shown. Don't take from her.
Hard to understand through the heavy accent. Don't be confused by the last name: she is NOT Irish! She nods A LOT and there is a lot of homework. Not recommended unless you are a math whiz. Uses a lot of dry erase markers so if you don't like the smell, sit in the back of the class.
Horrible time understanding her. Incredible amounts of homework and she collects, checks and grades ALL of it. Take only if you like lots of homework and don't have too many other classes. Not recommeded.
This teacher made a simple subject very difficult by trying to get students to read her mind on when to use shortcuts and exactly what she was looking for as answers on tests.

She is hard to understand and is a horrible teacher.
She is a very nice person. Always willing to help you. Gives extra credit for perfect attendance. Complicated teaching because she uses the actual terms. Turns easy to confusing.
she is a great teacher and very helpful! I just didn't like her checking every single step in your tests, but it helps you see what went wrong in the tests. I'd recommend her. PLUS! she's lenient on grades
Ms. Cummings is very nice and is often available for questions. However, she's very exacting about how test questions should be solved. Listen carefully; she has a slight accent. Likeable but difficult.
Too hard
thought she was a good teacher one of the better ones very open and fun. taught well
If you are a slow learner or have ADD or ADHD, be careful, she is very tough.
dislike her...if u want to stay at citrus forever, take her. she needs to retire. 90% of my clas failed. people who passed were the ones who took her twice.
Well I passed. I am really horrible at math and I worked hard. I think that made it more fulfilling though. In the end she is a nice lady that means well and just wants to do her job right. If you take it stay with it and put some extra work in and you'll pass.
My first "F" here at Citrus...well, Ms. Cummings is a smart lady who worked very hard to get where she is...and doesn't really accept anything less from her students. If you are good at Math take her, because she loves her subject and is enthusiastic. No slackers here though. If you're slow (like me!) or lazy, try someone else.
I took her class last semester. I got bad score on first and second tests, average was 57 points, but I got A because she replaced lowest point of test. on third, forth and fifth tests my averages were 95 points. What I want to say is if you study hard like me, you will pass this class with A. Her skill is very well.
exudes enthusiasm & love for her subject and for teaching it
i dropped this class after 2 months because she has a different style of doing things and shes not very clear on how to do it.
Her class is really difficult. If you don't like math from the get go, and are not good at it, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS, you will get an F. I am barely holding on to a C, and I am a good student getting all A's, if you think you can do it, be my guest!
I loved the class....I'm somewhat passing but that's because i don't put much effort into the class, which says how easy it is, for me at least. I strongly recommend her if you love math like i do.
Had to drop and take 148 and 149. She is very nice and helpful, but do not take if you are having a hard time in Math 130. Take 148 and 149, it's the same class but in 2 semesters and moves at a slower pace.
Mrs. Cummins is really the best math teacher that I've ever had. I understood more after taking her class than any other teacher. You do have to try, but it's well worth it in the end. I highly recommend.
she is one of the hardest math teachers i've ever had. she has this wierd accent and always takes off points of things...even when you get the problem correct, if you dont do it HER way, its wrong. has to be done in her order and steps, which is ridiculous since math can be done a hundred ways. get another teacher or else you wont pass
I have been waiting to write this one a review. Beyond hell. DO NOT TAKE! I wish I listened to these reviews but i had no other choice. it was by far the worst experience for a class ever int he history of classes. and shes just so damn mean!
ok. seriously. i am not a math person but i do not suck at it. i just took her class this past semester. horrible! she is a very bad teacher to get. i stayed in her class until the last day to withdrawal. thats like most of it. and i tried my best!!! so freaking hard. i went to tutoring and to her office. 1st things 1st. she will want you to read t
all youneed to know is do not take her istayed in her class until the last day to withdrawal. 7out of25 people were passing and not with high scores. teaches her way. if u do not do it her way it is wrong. had hours of tutoring and went to her office hours which she was always late too. did not help at all! oh and she does not read the book.bad !!!
Not an easy class, if thats what youre wanting don't take her. It's true. She is a very tough grader, has little sympathy, and teaches in a different style than most are used to. After getting used to her (and sticking through after the first test, which I got a 68 on) I really learned a lot. I began understanding why rather than just plug n chug
Ms Cummins not as organized when it comes to explaining as I would have liked. I passed the class but have to take it over because i did not gain a solid understanding. she is nice and will help you more than any other professors in the mathematics department!
On the first day of class she claimed that she teaches different than every teacher in the math department this should have been my sign. I've taken Algebra before but the way she taught was just strange making things that were easy more difficult. I really wish I dropped this class but instead thinking maybe she would have some sympathy I stayed.
Very nice teacher.... But very hard course 150 is lots of work... Lots of HW!!!!
If you don't like/understand math, don't take her. She expected 21 hours of hw/study a week. When I asked for help she made me feel stupid; when I did ask anyways she would explain things- but not tell me how they were related and I would get lost. She says she is a different kind of teacher but it's hard to understand her.
Horrible
She is the worst math teacher I ever had. Even my teacher in high school that I got a F with was easier than her. She told me I had chance to pass her class, so I withdrawed. Also, tutors are of no help because they don't teach "her way". If you get answers right on tests or homework and it's not done her way, they are marked wrong. HORRIBLE!!!!!!
If you are a slacker you will complain. If you are willing to put in the time like u are supposed to, u will succeed. She's great, hard but good. I was about to drop since i got a 39 in the first test, but stayed Passed with a C. Do ur homework and study. Come on it's college algebra, what do you expect!!!
GREAT MATH TEACHER! I'm taking her next semester too! Lots of work but it's worth it. Great lady too!
Great teacher! She really cares about helping her students!
it's not for the faint of heart. good luck in 170, because i was lost in the first three weeks... if you feel this also i assure you, you should drop w/ refund asap.
DONT TAKE HER! Shes incredibly confusing and super tough grader, her class is more confusing then when i realized i was gay.
She really wants to help her students understand. She is so patient. She loves when you ask questions. She is one of the best math teachers I have ever had.
She is super hard and confusing. I could never tell what homework was due when, and ended up not being able to turn stuff in when it was due. Also very confusing when trying to convey a new concept. A very strict grader.
I had a firm grip on the concepts taught in this class--thanks mostly to the textbook and not to the professor--but when a test came around, her grading was extremely tough, and I got very low grades. Based on the complaints I heard from the others in class, I wasn't the only one. Her grading is ridiculous, to the point where I had to withdraw.
she was really awesome teacher. especially, if you are the kind of person hard to understand what the textbook is saying. you should ask her whatever the question you have. but the point is you should GO ask her. i recommend her if you like a teacher-like teacher:)
Expects and assumes a lot. Notes are not organized. Skips steps because she expects you to know. Gives a fair share of homework. English is hard to understand at times. Test are not very clear at times. Not a very good math teacher unless you were born to do math.
Homework is a must to pass the class. She uses her own math methods, but i would suggest following the book. stay on top of your work all the time and show all the work you can on the tests and she is a tough grader. GOOD LUCK
If math is your passion and learning the concepts of math drive you and you love a challenge take this teacher. If youre looking for a easy a and no homework take someone else. Nice lady, but very challenging. Only about half the class passed.Dont take in the summer. Even if youre already familiar with the material she will make you learn herwa
Used the textbook every day, but continually told us it was wrong. She also would not answer questions many days and would tell us, "I assumed you learned that in the other classes." Terrible teacher. 2/3 of our class dropped her by the end.
Drop it before its too late. Her way or the highway. No consistency with other teachers within the same institution. She's still there because of tenure...questionable tenure process. She teaches as if all students are math majors.
CUMMINS WILL TERMINATE YOU!!!!!
Only took the class because I had to, but so glad I chose hers! She is a tough teacher, but cares about her students. She always has time to dedicate. She is tough, yes, she teaches differently but she isn't hard to pass.
very hard at grading! attendance helps a lot but marks point off for the dumbest things, assigns 2 - 3 pages of homework each night and collects 1 the next day! always told us the book was wrong, tried teaching us math her way. I would not recommend her, like they said CUMMINS WILL TERMINATE YOU.
SHE IS A HORRIBLE PROFESSOR. SHE DOSENT EXPLAIN THINGS CLEARLY AND IS HARD TO UNDERSTAND. SHE DOSENT REALLY HELP YOU WHEN YOU NEED IT, SHE PREETY MUCH EXPECTS YOU TO KNOW IT! SHE DOES NOT SHOW CLEAR EXAMPLES, AND WHEN SHE DOES, SHE DOES IT REAL QUICKLY AND DOSENT SHOW ALL THE STEPS CLEARLY! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT TAKE HER!
Shes an okay teacher. The way she grade homework is terrible, and the test are okay if you study enough. IF shes your last option take her, if not look for someone else.
I highly do not recommend her. I had to take her class because it was too late to sign up for another teacher. She is not helpful and expects you to know everything. She goes really fast and looses her students quickly. Out of a full class of 40 only 15 remained at the end. I'm a Honors students with As & Bs & I barely passed her class w/ a low C
She makes everything much more difficult. However, if you do all your homework and do well on your tests you should be able to pass the class. Try and go to her class everyday and pay attention because in the end of the semester she will give 100 pts for just attendance.
Run! she tells you she's there to help you, then yells at you when you ask. not a good teacher at all!
Really hard to understand. She gets mad or just surprised when you want to learn a different formula to solve a problem (that works). Drop it once you feel it's not right for you. That was my mistake.
Extremely strict teacher. Points are taken off very easily. BUT she is a good teacher & is passionate about math. Good for students who like to know the semester plan from the first day, and who are serious students.
Great Teacher. Very strict but you know what's expected of you in the class.
