A truly inspiring professor.

She is super wierd and all but she's so easy!! I never went to her class and I got an A+!! Just read the text book, do her silly journal thingies and you'll be fine! I recommend her.

Pretty Easy for journals, and exams, quizzes are hard. Uses good examples, no surprises on the final exam

The woman is definitely weird, but she makes things interesting and very easy to understand. Not many teachers bring something interesting into the classroom, but she makes it interesting. I've never fallen asleep in her lectures.

She has a really strange sense of humor. Other than that, some parts of the lectures are boring, but they are usually pretty good. Nothing is too difficult, although the citations in the journals are marked really hard.

Ok, like everyone already said she is a bit weird and does have an odd sense of humour but she's still a good prof. All she does is expand on the readings and give examples that will help you remember the terms etc.

A really great teacher. Kept class interesting and gave understandable examples realting to issues in society.

Definetly the weirdest prof I have ever had. But I think thats what kept it interesting, you never knew what she was going to pull. She taught us what she was supposed to, and the work she gave us emphasised concrete thinking to help you with the exam.

Obviously the fact that I got an A in this class, and the fact that I enjoy abstract social theory will influence my view and the fact, ....Nonetheless, I really enjoyed this class. The last class dealing with Goffman was especially humourous.

interesting course

Has many attention grabbing clothing stunts - is really nice if you have an issue and need to talk to her. Many of the issues I had were solvable by attending the TA groups, or talking to her directly. Watch out for the Journals, They're worth that 20

Brings enthusiasm to her lectures, and never has a dull moment. It was exciting to show up each week to see what she would say next.

Not a bad prof, not a great one. I never knew what was important in a lecture, my TA for the course sucked, but if you went to her one on one, and needed help, she was great to go to.

Ok. I admit, sometimes the lectures are really boring, then again she can be really funny sometimes. She explains things so that you can understand them, even if you've already read the text book. Yeah, she does quote the textbook alot but when you don't have time to read the text, it gets handy!

Ahh Journals, what can i say, well she is very structured in her marking. If you follow the instructions you can do well.

Professor Reid is not only an individual who puts forth astronomical amounts of time, energy, and compassion, but she is also an incredible womyn. If you want a professor who really cares for her students, as well as the course in which she teaches....this is the one!

An excellent teacher. Always keeps the class interesting and relevant to students' lives. Passionate about her subject and inspires you to learn more. Assignments and lectures are demanding, but you learn a lot from them. Very helpful and responds to e-mail questions quickly.

she's strict and a tough marker, but if you listen to/read all the instructions and follow them, you'll be fine. lectures are well-structured and complemented by extremely condensed course notes. she gives excellent examples. easy to reach by email or in lecture. i'm getting an A.

I bet all the people who give Dr. Reid back ratings are bad students who get bad grades because they don't go to class or listen. Soci theory is dry and dull, but Dr. Reid is a fountain of endless sociological information and I, for one, appreciate her efforts to make theory interesting and relevant

I don't understand all of these negative comments! She was excellent! Very articulate and I found the course engaging. I definately still have an appreciation for sociology after this. No complaints!

I think I am in love with Sian Reid! If you are truely interested in Sociology, this is the class.

A really interesting prof. Even though the class was three hours long, the class was quite enjoyable.

BEST PROF! Difficult class, lots of material, but its not hard to understand. She makes the funniest jokes, loves talking about sex and teenage topics, she even wore a corset (pretty much lingere) to class one day. Very entertaining lectures and lots of movies to pass the time quickly.

The journals in this class kill you. I also thought that every lecture seemed to revolve around the same concepts (primarily Female Genital Mutilation). I never really understood fully how that even related to sociology. Overall i didn't really enjoy this class.

Not the easiest sociology class, but definitely one or the more interesting. Obviously knows what shes talking about (come on...she went to university for 18 years!!) and as a result it's at times difficult to pick out the relavant points to her discussion...Bottom line, dont slack on journals...figure out what she wants and just do it!

Love her teaching style

Okay, so I got a C and the journals really really suck... but I absolutely love this prof. She was SO INTERESTING, I would come to her classes just to see her videos and hear her stories. It's a toss up!

This professor is a little far fetched, on the ideological specturm she is left of marxwhich is kind of like being north of the north pole but I digress. She talked about interesting subjects though, and asked tough questions, but I disagree with her ideology more than 100%

I very much enjoyed lectures by Dr. Reid. Her sarcastic humor always kept me interested and while some may not have agreed on the weekly journals which had to be handed in, I thought it was a great way of lowering the value of the midterm and final.

she was very helpful when you went to her office hours but during workshop she seemed verry annoyed

amazing prof who trys to use her job to show students that they are not the center of the univerce. The movies she shows are enlightening. She truely cares about the world and the pople in it. If you are a conservative you may find her offencive but she just tells it like it is! A MUST TAKE class for a left wingers.

I'm a conservative, and Dr. Reid is the best teacher I've had in my entire life. Yes, she's bias, but she doesn't try to hide her bias, which is what makes her so great. It's so great to see a strong, eccentric woman hold so much power. YOU GO DR.REID!

She's an incredible professor, definitely my favourite so far. I'm very sad that I only have to honour of learning from her for the first semester, but I'll definitely try to take more classes with her. She is insiring and more helpful than any other professor I have. Those who stress about the journals simply need to seek her during office hours!

Teacher is engaged, enthusiatic and has adequate knowledge on subject. teaching style is engaging and interesting. Only complaints would be that she is extremely politically biased and teaches her class exclusively from the left, which tends to give a very inaccurate and unscientific view of themes. May also appear a little on the unfriendly side

This instructor inspires me.

I thought Dr. Reid was amazing. This is a class that is marked hard, but the lectures are facinating and I'm definately going to take more Sociology. Journals were a bit dull, but what assignments aren't? 5 stars!

The assignments are marked pretty hard by TAs and their marking tends to fluctuate a lot. The exams are fair, but a little tricky at times. Dr.Reid provides notes for every lecture though and she's willing to help you improve if you drop by her office.

Dr.Reid is amazing. She is easy to comprehend, and willing to offer extra help. Her TAs could use a little work though.

no easy marks here - journal assignments (5 @ 10% each) suck and are very hard, the midterm is nitpicky but the final exam (if you make it that far) is generally straight forward if you have a general knowledge of the concepts discussed in class. she's very tough, and the TAs are very tough markers

Her lectures are interesting, however, the journals are stupidly hard!! Really dislike the TA's style of marking... I got an 85% on midterm/exam, and between a 45-65% on each journal.

In order to pass her tests/exam with good marks you just have to read her notes and memorize them. She is helpful if you go to her office and ask about how you can improve your journal assignment. TA's are tough markers, but she is more lenient. Journal readings were interesting.

amazing prof. journals are useless and very hard, they hardly relate to the course material. lectures very engaging, prof really explains things using examples so that you can understand easily. prof makes notes for you, which is so useful. i dont understand why everybody hates reid. she's awesome.

The journals ruin my life a little bit everytime one's assigned but if you go to her office during her hours she'll help you with anything you need help with including help with your journal. The lectures are interesting and she's sure to explain everything in understandable terms and throws in a joke once in awhile. Overall good prof.

Very good prof. She's hard but fair. If you do poorly in her courses, it's your own fault. What more can one expect?

Dr. Reid is the type of prof you either love or hate. She does have a very left-leaning philosophy, but I personally found her witty, fun and enaging. Some of her WebCT comments made me laugh out loud, and the way she handled repeat questions was just amazing.

Dr.Reid may be strict and may seem a bit abrasive but I found her very interesting and helpful.Respect her and her rules,and she will help you out for sure.The format of the class was great,a one page review of a reading every week or two,a midterm and an exam but no essays!Work is constant but not very hard.Great class,great prof.

Had her first year and she changed my life. I can remember crying, laughing, and falling asleep in her class. She gives a no-bull approach to everything, which offends some of the more uptight students. I got 80-90% on all the journals and I did them all the night before - you just need to know how to give her what she wants. AWESOME Prof.

I personally really enjoyed being in her class. Pretty interesting women. She doesn't beat around the bush, she's funny and she knows what she is talking about. I wasn't a fan of her weekly journal assignments, but I found that they got easier as the year progressed. She posts all of her lecture notes.Purchasing the textbook is a must.

The best lecturer I've had thus far!! She is real, engaging and knows her stuff. Doesn't spoon-feed but also gives you what you need. Very entertaining! The many movies that she showed just added to the course and they made me laugh and cry and wonder about our world. Brilliant set up of the course. Need to work but will come out a changed person

Good lecturer, interesting content if your interested in sociology. Perhaps not the best class if looking for a bird course, like for Engineering, an essay every week that takes out of other studying. But if you're interested in the field, shes a good prof.

She is a good prof, but very Marxist beliefs that are seen in every area. Very nice if you go in for help. TA's are TERRIBLE! Marking of journals is inconsistant and unfair. I didn't find that her social experiment was rude or degrading, but didn't learn too much from it in relation to the course. Anecdotes about it were intersting though.

Great prof. Many students dislike her due to her very forward opinions, but honestly, disregard those comments. Anybody who says her class sucked obviously didn't come to class enough. She is by far one of the most interesting lecturers I've ever had. I would look forward to her class every week. She is amazing at what she does!
