Dr. White is a great addition to the JMU English faculty. Very approachable and easy to talk to-you can tell she cares about her students learning. You will have to read and do some work but it's nothing too bad, she has a good sense of how much work to give out. She's also VERY easy on the eyes, in my opinion. Definitely take her if you can.

Dr. White is, without a doubt, the best English professor I have ever had as an English major. Papers can be tough, but I would definitely recommend taking her for any English classes.

Prof White was one of my favorite professors at JMU! She made her lectures, which would typically be challenging material, easy and interesting. She is so funny and willing to help her students! Take her for the English gen ed if you can!!

Dr. White was such a fun professor. She made me want to go to class and made me interested in everything we were reading(coming from someone who HATES reading). Assignments weren't terribly hard but you had to put the work in. She is a sweet and funny professor who loves what she teaches. Definitely take her class!!

English is one of my least favorite subjects, but Dr. White made this GenEd worth it! Attendance isn't mandatory, but the exams are lecture heavy so definitely go to class. Grades are based on 4 exams, small quizzes based on readings, and 2 essays. She really cares about her students and is super approachable if you need any help!

White seems like a super nice lady and the few classes I went to were interesting enough, but it is wayy too much work for a GenEd. Quiz before every single class MWF. Sometimes felt like the course was catered for English majors based on all the PDF and actual novels we had to read. Content was easy just excessive when you're not passionate

Very sweet, but a LOT of work for a gen ed. Quiz due before every class, each quiz you either had to read a couple poems or 100 pages of a book. 2 papers that are confusing. 4 tests but she drops your lowest one which is nice. She is very nice and the class is not bad but it is a lot of work.

Professor White is an amazing person and is super passionate about what she teaches. There is a lot of reading in this class (A LOT), and it was honestly harder than I expected for a huge GenEd course. You don't have to attend but she's a really nice person. The essays and tests are pretty hard, but fair. Just study and spend some time on them.

Professor White was a great professor and a solid choice for the course. There were four books, four exams, and a lot of small quizzes due before class. There were two papers but Professor White didn't do the grading for them. Very lecture heavy course, I would recommend attending lecture. She was very caring and interactive with the students.

Shes a nice teacher but is very quiz heavy and tests are weighted a ton, you do bad on one test it tanks your grade. The final can help make up for the bad test but that test is impossible is extremely hard. This class is not an easy Gen-Ed like I thought it would be. Take something else if youre looking for that requirement.

I am not a Literature GURU, I dislike reading but for the class to be a GENED it was an "ok" class. You def have to put in the work to get the great. I would show up to class even tho its not mandatory. The exams timing are way too short. Sadly, it gives us no time to read and contemplate. There are daily quizzes before the class for readings.

Definitely covers what she wants you to know in lectures. Lectures can be boring as crap material wise but PowerPoints are posted online. Readings are dense and quizzes each class on assigned readings. Writing assignments is what brought my grade down- grades by another professor assigned to this class as well. Extremely uninvolved and weighed alot

She is so nice and tries so hard to make the class interesting. Most people don't want to be there b/c its a gened but at least the novels were pretty interesting. There are online quizzes every class, I read everything and so I rarely got less than a 5/5 they're pretty easy. USE LITCHART b/c some poems are hard to understand! also spark notes.

She was an okay professor, the lectures aren't exciting but they aren't mandatory either. My only gripe with the class is that the writing assignments were graded by a different professor who had little to do with the class. Otherwise for a gen-ed it wasn't too bad.

Dr. White's course is so streamlined and organized! Small quiz before each class gives you a reason to go to class (if you've read and done well on the quiz, why wouldn't you?), and the readings were a good mix of very short and longer. Tests were easy if you read and came to class. In-class essays were probably the toughest aspect, but not too bad

I would stay away from this class if looking for an easier English gened. White is a great person, but she expects way too much from a gened. There are some pretty hefty readings, with reading quizzes due each class. I still haven't figured out the best way to study for exams, as some of the questions can be really random. Dr. White is incredibly passionate and so caring. There are (almost) daily pre-class quizzes (3-5 MC questions), 3 exams, two in-class essays, and a final. For reading, there are 3 novels and other out-of-class readings. You don't have to do ALL of the homework to succeed, but go to class and take good notes. Flashcards are helpful too.

She is very passionate, but this course was a too much for a GenEd. There are long reading assignments for each class, but easy mini-quizzes based on the reading due before. She doesn't post lectures, so you have to take good notes. Tests are easy (all multiple choice), but the timed in-class essays can be difficult if you're not a strong writer.
