Hands down the worst teacher I've ever had. Doesn't give a study guide for her tests, doesn't give you the power points, goes through her lecture slides so fast that you only get maybe a quarter of the slide copied, and doesn't let the SI post a practice exam. She is a terrible teacher and is very unreasonable. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
She was a little hard to warm up to at first, but she has witty comments throughout her lectures. You do not have to take notes during her lectures if you read the book. I state that attendance is mandatory because she assigns pop quizzes that are 10 points each from the chapter you are assigned in the syllabus. Her exams are a little hard though.
No study guides and expects you to read the textbook everyday. Doesn't post powerpoints online either and then flies through them in class. She's asked us multiple times correct her english and didn't explain something to us because she "only could in German." Don't bother asking her a question in class, she'll just repeat herself. Avoid.
I took a W to escape this class. The Professor is an intolerant, unyielding, and overall unpleasant teacher. She goes very fast and expects you to follow with ease. The material is hard and she makes it even harder. I would avoid this class at all costs.
Buschmann makes this class harder than it needs to be. She talks very fast and does not post her power points online and flies through them very quickly. Her explanations are vague and she can seem rude when answering questions from students. If you need to take 182, do not take it with her.
Hands down worst teacher I've ever had. This is a 100 level class, and should not be this difficult. Posts results of exams/quizzes on the board, and gets frustrated that 85% of the class is failing. 200 students failing means they are not the problem. If you want to pass, don't take it with her.
Shouldn't even be allowed to teach. Everybody I talk to has a D or an F in the class. Avoid at all costs.
This is by far the worst class I have. The lectures are long and slideshows are not put online. You have to read at least a chapter before every class. Random pop quizzes. The tests are near impossible to pass. My lecture hall of like 200 is 75% failing.
This is the worst class I have EVER taken. She often goes over on her time for lecture, gives tests that are based on information she hardly covered in class, and when you ask her to further explain something, she either repeats what she just said or reads exactly what is written on the slide. I also felt she was on the aggressive side.
Lectures are long and she doesn't give enough time to copy the slides and doesn't put them online. Do not expect a study guide or anything you'd hope for in a BIO course.
Probably the worst professor I've had at NAU. Class room is a very hostile environment because she hates everyone. Hard to understand her accent and she is terrible at explaining the concepts. Doesn't give you anything to base the exams off of and randomly started putting short answer questions in our exams. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR!!!
This class is ridiculously hard for a 100 level class. The instructor is rude when a student asks questions and expects you to take factual information and conceptualize on your own. She flies through her lecture slides and doesn't post them online. I would avoid this class if possible.
Talks way too fast, goes through power points way too fast and you can't get all the information down. She says to her notes are from the book, but she adds things and its too hard to keep track. Does not provide any notes. Tests are hard no matter how much you study. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Silke is quite impatient when it comes to questions. She goes through lectures super fast. No toleration for phones or talking whatsoever. Also, the only things in the grade book are pop quizzes and exams so not recommended if you're a poor test taker.
This teacher is the worst teacher I have ever come across. Even professional said that I was not the only one to complain about her. The study guides are completely worthless, the tests are nothing like them and way too hard for a 100 level class. DO NOT TAKE THIS INSTRUCTOR.
This class was a nightmare. 100 level classes should be easy. This was not.
This class is definitely challenging for a level 100 class. However, it is not impossible. Once I came up with a system for studying (e.g. taking notes while reading the textbook before class) it was not too difficult. She is available during her office hours and very helpful. She does not baby her students. You have to work for the grade you want.
Silke is very intelligent and actually very funny. She speaks very fast and is sometimes hard to understand because she is German and has an accent. Keep your phones away and be respectful. Homework is easy, group work is difficult, tests can be, too. The SI was absolutely worthless. Don't expect anything she said or prepared to help.
DROP THIS CLASS NOW, DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK! The first day of class she was hostile towards the class talking about her expectations that seem a little ridiculous. The textbook is required for the class and you can not pass without. the online access code is $120 and non refundable. Tests are easy if you study, but the quizzes dont relate to class
She stopped class every lecture, multiple times in order to tell someone to put their phone away; wasting time. Her accent is hard to understand. Tests are hard: our class avg was an F. She also discourages asking questions. She has grammatical errors in her power points very often.
She is very strict in her lectures; won't let you use phones, eat, talk, or sleep. She is however humorous and will throw some sort of joke out every once in a while and she is very nice if you talk to her. She may let you use her clicker if you happened to forget yours for a quiz. Her clicker questions and quizzes cover content she has on the exam
Shes a very intelligent professor. Knows what shes talking about and cares greatly about her students. Tests are easy if you study with easy quizzes as well. Homeworks help you greatly with exams and she gives you a study guide before each exam. GO TO CLASS! Participation points are free. Overall amazing class!
I was surprised to see so many negative reviews for Silke. While her class was not my favorite, she was clear and concise and always fair. As long as you do the work there is no reason not to finish with an A or a B. Weekly quizzes and homework and attendance taken daily. Exams can be difficult but not if you study early. Final was a breeze.
She did not make her own tests, the wording was very confusing. The quizzes were built to be harder than the exams. I failed most of the quizzes. I was given an online textbook, which used Connect. I took hours of notes on the assigned Learnsmarts and notes in class and studied all for exams.
If you take this class just beware, this class was definitely by far one of the hardest classes I've taken. Every day in class you have clicker questions that DO count against you if you get them wrong. If your phone goes off you might as well just leave because she will make a scene and ask you to leave. Tests are difficult and quizzes on Fridays
Definitely one of the hardest classes I've taken. Extremely strict, no extra credit, homework and test heavy. Silke does not tolerate phones whatsoever, she will kick you out of class if she even hears one. Clicker questions every lecture, quizzes every friday and very difficult exams.
Dr. Buschmann is pretty strict but makes it clear what her rules are so as long as you respect her, shell respect you. This class is difficult but it doesnt have to be as long as you study enough and go to S.I sessions. It is necessary to go to class in order to succeed. Take the in -class iClicker questions seriously.
Yes she is strict on phones but she is not as bad and this course isnt as difficult and tedious as how previous reviewers mentioned. Just pay attention in class, do your homework, go to a few SI sessions, and ask questions if you dont know something and you should be fine. She is fair and repeatedly mentions what materials we should know.
This class is one that you need to make sure that you are staying on top of your work for. There are lots of notes written and lectures move very quickly. If you go to Dr. Buschmann outside of class or email her she is super nice and will do her best to help you so make sure you do that. She seems intimidating but she wants you to pass.
This class has genuinely been an awful experience. She definitely has command of knowledge, but she often holds this over the students. There have been multiple occasions of her ridiculing wrong answers from students. Class is super difficult, and at least this year, she herself is all over the place with due dates. Only good thing is office hours.
For the love of god please do not take this class. If you care about your grade look for a different professor. I took this class thinking that I would do well but I didnt . She can be rude if you ask the wrong questions and exams are too difficult even if you study everything. This class is made to weed out nursing majors !!
SHOW UP FOR CLASS. Only half my class showed up for lecture and the test average was around a D because of it and she gets grumpy when people don't show up. She gives test answers as clicker questions a lot so pay attention. Overall she was strict but fair, although I didn't appreciate her shutting down questions she thought was off topic.
Dr. Buschmann is a fantastic professor. This is a great intro biology class. If you show up, do the reading, and study for tests, you will breeze through this class! She has a very sarcastic and witty sense of humor - do not take everything she says to heart. Overall, I loved her class and would recommend it to anyone that is strong in science.
Avoid her class! She is not good at explaining things if you have a question and she will just repeat what she said before. She doesn't care about the students. Every test we had the class average was a D with 200 students. She should start to look at her teaching instead of blaming the students.
Attendance is crucial. Show up to class, print the lecture slides and take good notes. Most test questions come from the lectures so pay attention; if she repeats something it is important. In class quiz questions will show up again. Lots of little assignments; stay on top of your work.
Professor Buschmann is a caring teacher despite what other people say. She constantly reminds students to do their work, attend SI sessions, and reach out to her, her TAs, or your own assigned group for help. If you study, do the LearnSmarts, and complete all of your homework, you should be fine. She gives a lot of extra credit so take advantage!
Silke is a very strict teacher and she's also very intolerant. If you want a good grade you have to work for it. GO (and I can't stress this enough) to SI sessions. Do every homework assignment, every reading, take good notes, and study and you'll most likely be fine.
Dr. Buschmann is a phenomenal professor and is very knowledgeable. If you don't pay attention in class, you won't pass, but her lectures are very organized and well done! She adds a lot of humor into her lectures which makes it easier to pay attention. It is also clear that she is very intelligent and cares about her students! Highly recommend.
She was terrible. I went to her multiple times asking for help but she treated me like I was stupid. Her handwriting is not legible and she makes her tests extremely hard. Choose a different teacher.
BIO240 online with Prof. Buschmann was a nightmare. The material is fine up till the first exam but afterward the exams begin to take discourse from the actual lecture material. There are several reading quizzes and problem sets to complete every week with random due dates and times. Expect to do a fair amount every week for this course.
I can honestly say she is the worst professor by far, as she uses notes as only a "general guideline" and expects you to be on her level of knowledge. Please, if you have a major in Biology, TAKE Sthultz! He seems to be the better and more helpful professor.
For the love of god do not take her class. She will make you feel dumb when you take her tests, and most of the time the tests don't correlate with her notes. Very knowledgeable professor, but she could care less about her students and our futures.
Didn't really learn a lot but you had to pay attention in lectures. Very strict, no laptop, no phones or you will get kicked out. If you're late just turn back around lol. Other than it being very strict the class is passable.
Dr. Buschmann is not as bad as her ratings appear to be. She is very strict with phones (dont bother trying either), and it does get annoying. Her lectures are pretty organized, but you have to do the readings and mastery to pass the exams. As long as you do all the notes and homework and study, youll pass. She is definitely strict but fair.
This professor was one of the worst professors I have ever had. She is extremely disrespectful to students and treated us like we were in high school. Her lectures are quick paced and her tests get more and more difficult as the semester progresses. Good luck getting an e-mail back. I had to work my butt off for my grade no thanks to her.
I know a lot of people aren't a huge fan, but I personally liked her. I think her class isn't for everyone, but I really appreciated the organization and the practice opportunities. I had her for bio 181 as well. I enjoyed her lectures and humor. It can be a hard class, but this class has a lot of support if you are struggling and she wants to help
For the online course Relevance of Science, this lecturer just uploads some random notes with many links, and then we are to read them and then do multiple Content Quizzes, Hypothesis Activities, and In depth Quizzes. It's like every other day there is a quiz due on BB learn! The notes don't make sense, its really random and all over the place :c
never answers emails, isnt patient with students
Worst teacher I have ever had at NAU. I don't complain about professors often, but this professor was awful. One time she accidentally put the assignment close date as 1pm instead of 9pm as stated in the syllabus, and instead of opening it back up, she told us it was "our fault for not working ahead". Very unfair and extremely rude to students.
She is more on the strict side, but a very well structured class. She's firm and blunt, but fair. If your lazy and unmotivated, then you'll have a bad experience (most of the people giving bad reviews). Pay attention in class and do the lecture notes and you'll be fine.
She is easily the worst instructor I've ever had. She is mean and flat out disrespectful to her students. She is not understanding whatsoever, and basically told me to suck it up and wouldn't help me when I had missed a huge assignment due to my friend passing away. The class was online synch, and I will give her credit for being organized.
Dr. Buschmann is very straightforward, organized, and blunt; personally never had a problem with her. There are assignments and notes to do every week but you get used to it and you adapt a study schedule for yourself which will help you for quizzes and the final.
Dr. Buschman is a fair professor. Her assignments are very organized. I would suggest reading the syllabus carefully before starting the course because it outlines everything very well. The biweekly are hard quizzes that happen every two weeks and cover two topics you need to know INTIMATELY. Critical thinking is a must for this class.
This class was hard. A lot of independent reading assignments, watching her recorded lectures, and taking your own notes. Go to SI to make sure you understand the material because you are on your own. She takes forever to email you back, and will never answer a question that has already been asked. Her organization for notes is wack too.
Dr. Buschmann is a genius but with that she expects her students to be at her level with her which is illogical. Her teaching style might suit some people who are good at teaching themselves but I never felt like I was learning anything. I personally wouldn't suggest taking her class. it was hard but also not very hard, I felt like I needed more :/
She's very smart and a passionate scientist but an awful teacher. She only knows one way to explain something and if you don't understand the first time she'll just incredulously repeat herself. She can also be extremely rude to students, and treats everyone like idiots. Emailing her is a waste of time. She makes all of the content extremely boring
Expects students to be on her level of understanding, but is incredibly unhelpful and uninvolved in her students' learning (isn't even involved in her own lab course). Material was difficult and I struggled despite taking a very similar course the semester before. She's condescending, unhelpful, and just plain rude. Would not recommend.
Can come off as rather firm, but is actually very sweet. Do not use your phone in class you have been warned! And do attend her office hours to go over past exams and ask questions about the material.
Silke wasn't the worst when I had her but she was VERY strict on phones and laptops. It helped with concentrating but it got a little irritating when she'd pause lectures over it. She is definitely knowledgeable and easy to pass as long as you pay attention and study. Her exams weren't easy but overall pretty typical for biology.
I loved having Dr. Buschmann and I found her class to be very interesting. Her teaching style is not for everyone but she really knows what she is talking about and is happy to help her students understand the material. It did help to go into the class with some AP bio knowledge but I think you would be fine even if you don't have that background.
Her teaching style is not for everyone and her biweekly quizzes are worded so difficult for no reason.
her wording in tests are a little difficult but she understands the subjects
Cares for students who apply themselves. Attendance (over zoom) was not mandatory but helped develop your understanding of the material. I needed a few extensions and she was more than happy to help me. She offers grade bumps for students who attend SI. You also get to skip the final if you average a 90% on all of your quizzes!
An unreasonable amount of note-taking and reading, as well as quizzes. Would spend hours on this class while barely learning/retaining anything. Is very harsh towards students but still, you can tell that she cares about the class and took covid into consideration when grading. The rubric and class were very organized and straightforward!
words her quizzes in order to make the practically impossible to pass, studied for hours and would never get a perfect score. Extremely rude when it comes to helping students out with things like Iclicker and doesn't really teach in a way in which students absorb the information, just talks and talks.
Kind of hard to understand very heavy workload her test are extremely difficult. Very tricky wording
Dr. B is a tough but fair professor who is very passionate. She has strict policies on attendance and phones and her class is lecture and homework heavy. You HAVE to study to pass and her biweekly quizzes are difficult. She assigns the same things every week and only the final besides the quizzes. If you are ready to read and study, take her class.
Dr. Buschmann is not from this country, so her humor is very dry, which I found very entertaining. The class itself is not necessarily difficult but it very lecture and content heavy. Do not have your electronic out during class because she will call you out in the middle of class in front of everyone. Always answered questions and very encouraging
Dr. Buschmann is a fair professor who clearly outlines her expectations for the entire course in the syllabus. This class requires a lot of work, a lot of lectures, and bi-weekly quizzes that I found to be quite difficult. She provides extra credit throughout the semester and genuinely cares about her students sucess
Worst professor I have had so far. Some of my grade is honestly because of online school- I won't lie. However, there was so much work for what felt like little payoff. Didn't help me learn and the lectures were hard to understand.
Probably the worst teacher you could ever have, wouldnt take her and it makes sense she is at a smaller university
Dr. Buschmann is very intelligent but also is sometimes hard to keep up with during her lectures, watching the video lectures are very important to watch.
Dr. Buschmann rocks. If you pay attention in class and do the homework on time, the work load isn't too bad and you'll do well on the tests. She also puts video lectures up online that you can watch instead of doing the reading. She will for sure flame you if she sees you using your phone in class, tho.
Dr. Buschmann is a strict but at the end of the day, genuinely learned professor. She is very hard on people that use their phones in class and comes across as rude sometimes but she is very considerate if you respectfully keep your point in front of her. She responds to emails and her course work is laid out in a great way.
By far the worst professor I've ever had. Not helpful at all. Said she doesn't post notes online. Doesn't let you take notes with a computer. Speaks super quietly and I couldn't even hear her with a microphone. I dropped and I would never go back to her for any class.
May not be for everyone but I learned a lot from her. The subject can be difficult so paying attention to her lectures and doing the notes are crucial to pass. Didn't read textbook much. Clear guidelines, just follow them. As long as you stay on top of your work you'll be fine. People think it'll be an easy A and slack, explaining low reviews LOL
She is terrible at giving lectures, she does not slow down for students to comprehend the concepts being talked about. Most questions on exams will not be talked about or explained during lectures and you will depend mostly on the text book. She does not allow computers or phones in her classroom during her lectures.
This is a challenging class and a lot of people blame it on the professor but she is always willing to help out with questions or concerns you may have in her office hours. She is very understanding of personal matters and will work with you to get back on track. She is also very funny and even though lectures aren't fun she makes them enjoyable!
Dr. Buschmann is very strict when it comes to talking in class and using laptops/phones. However, she does a good job explaining the concepts. She is always willing to answer questions and go over a topic again. No exams in this class only bi-weekly quizzes, if you get a 90% average you don't have to take the final.
very knowledgeable professor but she is very strict and the lectures move extremely quick. the way she explains things is way too complicated for me personally, but she has lots of SI sessions, open office hours, tutoring, and resources to help you. all the tests and assignments are online. difficult class but not impossible, just put in effort
She is a very knowledgeable professor, but the class is pretty self-motivated. You cannot expect to go to lectures and do the homework and pass. You have to take it upon yourself to really learn the material whether it is through videos or reviewing lecture notes.
Dr.Buschmann isn't a bad professor, she just doesn't teach well. She cared more about people talking in her class then teaching the class.
Professor Buschmann's class is very lecture heavy. During them, she will stop the class often to tell people to stop talking. However, her policy if very favorable. Her grading criteria is very clear, and the work is basically same every week bar the bi weekly quizzes. If you get >85% average on the quizzes you don't have to take the final.
She will come off as one the strictest professors but her class is honestly pretty easy as long as you actually try. She gives tons of points and ways to keep your grade up.
She is an extremely intelligent, but she will call you out about being on your phone and try to embarrass you and she is not the nicest person ever. If you pay attention and do the work the class is pretty simple, but the workload was a bit much sometimes.
Dr. Buschmann's class really just requires a lot of time and effort but it could be worse. Her test questions are sometimes weirdly worded but she's accessible outside of class via zoom and she's very open to helping if you approach her.
Seemed very arrogant. Constantly interrupted her own lectures to wait for people to stop talking and her handwriting is illegible. Acted like this was a 30 person high school class instead of a 150 person college lecture. Didn't explain concepts well for me, but maybe others preferred her style.
Dr. Buschmann is very tough but also one of the best professors i've had. I would highly recommend attending her office hours as she has more time to carefully explain concepts. This course is extremely difficult but she is also one of the most understanding professors. ! attend office hours !
This professor does not allow phones, but only for iClicker stuff. The way the professor responds to questions with another question (i.e. "I dunno, is it?"), it makes the students second guess their responses. The workload isn't bad, but there's an assignment almost every day. An all-around tough professor.
Buschmann is a very tough professor and expects a lot of learning to be done outside of class alongside the the 5-6 assignments that are due every week. However, her lectures are very informative and engaging and she is fairly understanding about extensions and late work. I would recommend going to SI sessions and office hours.
Buschmann is very tough on ANY electronic use (even laptops used for note taking). She says it's about not distracting other students, but the classwide disruptions she causes about it are far more distracting. Assignments due every night but they're not particularly difficult. "Participation points" make up attendance but require correct answers.
I have taken over 30 courses both inside and outside my degree field at NAU. This class, by far, was the most frustrating and tedious. I love biology and the content came easily to me but dealing with the professor almost singlehandedly killed my interest in the subject area. I look forward to BIO182 with literally any other professor.
Lecture-wise, electronics are not preferred, and attendance/participation points were given for correct answers only. Her accent can be hard to understand sometimes, and her handwriting can be difficult to read, especially since she moves on to the next topic quickly. She did encourage students to attend SI sessions if they needed more help.
Lectures are quick-paced, and can be informative if you keep up. There's a good amount of homework (like one assignment due a night at least). Exams are online, if you use your notes well you will do good. Its definitively a frustrating class, but getting an A is possible.
I love Dr Buschmann. A lot of people talked crap about her but she is so sweet! She comes around and helps you one on one when we are doing group work. Lectures are very heavy though and I would expect homework every night!!
While Buschmann is a sweet lady, her class is not. During her lectures, the few things she actually wrote down were in bad cursive and difficult to understand sometimes. Most of the time it's her explaining things with her hands or pictures from the book that caused me to forget them right away. And some of the work was weirdly worded questions.
She definitely knows the topic she's teaching but I had a hard time learning from her. Her lectures were pretty boring and didn't really involve us besides asking random questions once and a while. She allows Ipads but not laptops which is difficult because lots of the worksheets needed printed and it felt like having an ipad was an advantage.
Not understanding of any issues or individual circumstances, also not a good teacher
amazing professor she cares about you understanding the content. just took her bio181 in 2023 and I enjoyed it. make sure to attend office hours and not get behind on the readings. also test are detail oriented so pay attention!! exams are online which is nice as there's more class time. def would take her again.
Horrible teacher. Gets mad at you if you're yawning, and doesn't teach. Most of her assignments are based on the reading that she refuses to cover, and spends most time in class repeating herself. Overall horrible class, save yourself and choose a different class for bio credits.
Sweet lady by all means, but by far the worst teacher I have ever had. She relies on her students either taking resuscitation or attending SI sessions. There are 4 assignments every week, compared to her tests they are meaningless toward your grade. If you want an A, find another teacher or wait to take it another semester.
This professor constantly takes time away from the lectures to yell at the students for little things. She has yelled at people multiple times for yawning. She will get upset if you ask her to repeat something or have a question. If you do not do well on multiple tests, she looks at how it's your fault and not what's wrong with her teaching.
I didn't enjoy this class, felt like content wasn't clear enough and found it hard to understand the content presented. Very test heavy spent most of the class time bashing students. Would not take the class again or would recommend a different professor.
This class is really tough, but Dr. Buschmann is a really good professor. She's really funny, but she will get angry if students don't pay attention. The tests are definitely difficult, but you should have no problem in her class as long as you do all the work and pay attention. Silke is a really lovely woman, just don't get on her bad side.
Dr. Buschmann can seem a little offputting at first, but she genuinely cares about her students. Participate and go to office hours, and you will do fine in her class. Don't be on your phone in class or she will call you out. She sets clear goals and makes it pretty easy to study for tests, as long as you utilize the resources she provides.
Good teacher. No empathy or remorse for student situations
Dr. Buschmann definitely gets mixed reviews, but I personally loved her class. She's 100% no nonsense (don't yawn), but incredibly knowledgeable and funny. Assignments are consistent (4 a week) and learning targets are provided to highlight what to study, make sure you study!
Buschmann is very serious about what she teaches, but she is very knowledgeable about what she does. No yawning, whispering, or using phones in her class or she will call you out or kick you out of the lecture hall. Pretty decent work load but it is consistent and outlined in the syllabus.
Dr. Buschmann was great and an amazing professor, go to class, take notes and GO TO OFFICE HOURS, she is very kindhearted and cares about her students, only downside is bad handwriting and no yawning but amazing nonetheless.
She is a strict professor, but her approach is rooted in ensuring students succeed and retain the material from her lectures. I learned a great deal in her class, and her clear organization and detailed syllabus made it easy to follow her expectations. While she does have rules, such as discouraging yawning during class.
She is awful, I did not have a very good experience. I feel like she was very disconnected from the students and push as much work on everyone that she could. I would highly recommend taking a different teacher if you can because she will make you want to drop out of college.
Honestly she was a decent professor when it came to teaching the material, however, she was very blunt which could be uncomfortable at times. Forr you to pass the class you HAVE to do the weekly reading, all the assignments, and attend the lectures or you will struggle. Bio 181 is just a hard course in general.
Very lecture-heavy, did well at the beginning of the semester, motivation to keep up with this class dwindles quickly as the professor is very blunt and approaches class as if she does not care much about her job or the students. Be prepared to read and navigate through several tests with weirdly worded questions.
This professor is very passionate about what she does but she has a lot of attitude. LUCKILY, at the end of the semester before finals she looks at the class as a whole and seeing how well behaved you were and if you were she will
She is rude and is super nit picky. She was my hardest class. She has a lot of attitude.
Professor takes the class seriously which is good, but she can be very rude in doing so. She is very lecture heavy, has strict rules, will kick you out of class. She, very rarely, cracks a joke and she is only nice when spoken to 1 on 1. Please make sure to study study STUDY, she is not lenient to whatever grade you get is what you get.
Prof. Buschmann came off harsh at the start and is very picky about how her students act in her class. Her tests are impossible because of her stupid questions, she drops 40 test points to raise your test avg and it SAVED me. She definitely knows what she is teaching though and really has passion for biology if you ever go to her student hours.
She is a challenging but extraordinary professor. Her class is absolutely worth taking. If you're looking for an easy pass without gaining much from your college experience, you might consider another instructor. However, if you want to expand your knowledge, strengthen your academic skills, and grow as a student, invest your time in her class.
Her accent made it a little hard to understand sometimes but was never a major issue. She wrote notes with us which was helpful and usually didn't go too fast. Some of the tests are a little hard because the questions were phrased pretty differently to how we had learned something in class. She gets kinda sassy if someone yawns or talks.
Dr. Buschmann can seem tough, but she cares about her students. Attend class, utilize office hours, and you'll do well. Unstuck study was a lifesaver for test prep - don't miss out on that resource!
She is a very firm teacher. She wastes so much class time by yelling at students who yawn or on their phone. She wants u to learn everything from a textbook and her notes are very short. She also doesn't allow to take pictures of her slides but also she doesn't post them anywhere. Good at teaching but not very student oriented
Poor in class notes that are hard to read and follow along. Pointless rules that make it more difficult to learn such as not being allowed to take pictures of the board or use a computer. Unnecessarily rude to students.
this professor is rude and does not care about the students. she would yell at students who yawned saying she doesn't care about our feelings and would threaten to kick them out. she could care less about her students. the study guides were never like the tests. good luck if you end up with this professor
DO NOT TAKE BUSCHMANN! Her tests are nothing like the study material, and class averages hover around 60%. She refuses to curve grades, even though most students are failing. If you want a professor who wants their students to succeed, avoid Buschmann. Only about 3 out of the 200 students get As on her tests.
The von of biology. Expect to have 1/4 the class to be just useless complaining about random students. "You there in the back row. You're looking at your lap is that your phone? If you do not put it away in 3 seconds you must pack up your bag and leave" Why do you give a gaf? This is introductory bio this is not a place of honor. It gets to a point
I had her for Bio 181 last semester, and liked her so much I took 182 with her. She's a very nice lady, just a bit tough on things she sees as disrespectful. (being on your phone, etc.) Which honestly is fine. The course has a very reasonable amount of work and as long as you do it, go to class, and study your notes, you will be just fine.
Buschmann is blunt and struggles with cultural differences, finding things like yawning to be very rude (she's German). She seems unapproachable during lectures but is sweet and patient if you ask questions after class. Take advantage of extra credit options, as they'll help your grade. The class is also very test-heavy, so stay on top of studying.
I'm a bio major and this teacher made me consider dropping it. Her class is unnecessarily hard, the tests don't reflect the notes and study material, and she is unnecessarily rude and often times mean to students just for the sake of it. Note taking is next to impossible with her poor handwriting, not speaking proper English, and fast pace.
The material of the class isn't the difficult part, this professor is AWFUL at making tests that reflect the content taught in class. Unless you have the textbook memorized word for word, you may not recognize half the material on these tests. A nice lady outside of the lecture hall, but incredibly hostile in class. God forbid you yawn.
if your not religious then pick a religion and pray
I was worried from the reviews, Professor Buschmann is no doubt a strict professor and can be confrontational if disrespected. Tests are hard, and one had uncovered material, but if you stay on top of the work, u will do well despite the tests. Her strictness can come off as harsh but is often humor. She's very structured and I liked her overall.
This class is very difficult and although she says it isn't a "weed out" class it is. Dr. Buschmann comes off as harsh but if you put in the work and go to student hours getting an A and on her good side can be done. You have to show up, do the readings, and STUDY. But she drop 40 test points which helps a lot if you don't do great on the tests.
This class was one of the toughest classes I have taken in my college career. Buschmann can be strict, as she yells at students for being on their phones and yawning, but she is her absolute sweetest during her office hours. As long as you study, go to SI sessions, and do the homework, you are more than likely to pass.
Incredibly difficult for an intro level class. I ended up retaking with another professor, got an A+ after barely passing Buschmann's class. Lectures are fast paced and disorganized, testing material is nothing like course work, passive aggressive comments during class were unprofessional and a waste of time. good luck to anyone taking this class.
Professor Buschmann is strict and runs a disciplined class—no phones, yawning, or photos. Expect weekly readings, quizzes, and activities that focus on understanding, not memorizing. Exams can be tricky with surprise chemistry. She's tough but kind one-on-one, and her dry humor may go unnoticed. Stay engaged and you'll learn a lot.
Runs a class like its the military. Prepare for disrespect, endless assignments, hard exams, and wishing you had chosen happiness instead of her class :)
