I took this summer class. Take your time getting the book. It is rarely used.
Nice teacher. Yes, the math was harder because in the Summer Session it's condensed, but it's definitely passable. Even if you're not good at math. Go to the math lab daily of you have questions. TIP: do the homework.
I took this class during the summer session. And although it was very fast paced, she made it interesting and easy to comprehend. I am not a math person but she helped me understand what was going on. So glad I took this class with her, and would recommend her to anyone!
You have to be willing to learn her teaching style (which is just packets and that makes things easier but people like to complain). Don't fight her just let her teach and pay attention. Confusing at first, gets better as you go along. If your coming fresh from highschool or close it will be easy. Just study a bit and you'll be good.
Holcomb was alright. She's lenient about using your laptop which is a plus. I'd take her again if I had to. Recommended if you like to learn math. It's not an easy class by any means but it's far from being unfair. She tries her best to help her students.
This professor has a language barrier. In this class, I recommend buying the book, utilizing the math lab, and even asking your classmates who understands "how to solve equation." she has lots of homework, but it is a learning tool not a tissue paper. Striving an A in this class could relieve later on set stress. It is doable class. Put some effort
We fell behind and she pushed hard to finish on schedule. For the last half of the semester, we would start another chapter before taking quizes or tests on the current chapter. You would have to study two chapters at once to stay current for the tests.
Never been good at math but received an A in her class. Extra credit on quiz and tests saved me most of the time. If you miss class, you miss crucial info. I had a blast in her class. She tries her best to help you pass the class. She does cramp the last few chapters towards the end of the semester, making it harder to fully understand them.
Make sure you attend every class it is very important.
She cares for her students education but has very bad communication skills. Also a very easy class! Work on the packets she gives out for very chapter and you'll be golden! If you need extra help on a problem, she usually gets them from the textbook so be sure to check the book to see how it is done.
She's very mean and makes students feel stupid when they asks question. I suggest you choose a different teacher. Easy B I would say, not A.
She offers extra credit through semester on tests and in class participation and is willing to talk to though issues you have. Be respectful, she doesn't handle rude people well. Start off on a good foot and she will always be on your side.
This teacher is something called awesome! A language barrier at times but overtime you get used to her speech. You can miss class. As long as you do the homework and study the packets she hands out you walk away with an A or B. Tests are like elementary. Pay attention to the quizzes&homework packets!! She always uses same questions for the tests!!!
I definitely would not recommend her to anyone. She does not help or do step by step in math like its supposed to be like in order to learn. If you need help you have to get it from another student in class. Maths not supposed to be doing it on your own, you need step by step in it all and that she doesn't do. Don't take her for math, really.
She is not helpful. She doesn't clarify her work many times, and her solutions often have errors that you have to catch yourself. There are questions on tests that she didn't go over in class. When you ask for help she isn't very good about answering your questions clearly. Many times when you ask a question she gives a simple yes or no, that's it.
I really enjoyed her class, everything was clear in the material she lectured. The only issue was when asking for help, she would make remarks such as "this is review" or "we already covered this in previous chapters". That was a little intimidating so it was hard to ask for help.
Very helpful. Great teacher. She is hilarious. Not tough on grading but does give extra credit for helping others in class. Very approachable and likable and will give tons of help if needed.
She has a tendency to be quick on her presentations, a lot of my classmates would say that when they got lost in the lecture they would just write and would find a way to understand the material later, she can seem intimidating and overwhelming but approachable once you get over the first impression, at times it may even seem like a scolding.
She gets you by, but when you ask for help, she will only wait for you to try it on your own until you get it.
Not a helpful teacher... Also, doesn't seem to have patience to help students who are actually struggling with the class, instead seems to enjoy to help students who have an A in the class. Explains the topic too fast, and is confusing.
As long as your pay attention to her lectures and take some notes you will be fine. She gives you a packet in the beginning of the chapter then a few days later she will emil you the answers to the packet. this was really helpful because it helps you know your weakness in the chapter and know what you are doing wrong.
I Didn't Like The Way She Taught The Class . She Expects You To Know The Problem After Her Teaching It Like Once .
I didn't like her teaching methods. She gives you a chapter packet for each chapter. Throughout the course of the semester she expected us to be done with the chapter packets way before we even took the quiz or test for that chapter. She also doesn't explain things well on the lectures and gives you a smartass response when you ask questions.
This professor knows her stuff, but is hard to understand sometimes. Sometimes she gets lost when explaining a problem, but for the most part she is pretty on top of everything. Make sure you go to class, and take good notes. Also, make sure you do the packets and the homework that's assigned.
She is great.
Professor Holcomb is fair and knows her subject. She gives study guides for every chapter and these are definitely something to take seriously. The quiz and test questions will be similar to what's on the guides. Her tests are fair and not too long. Be respectful, show up to class, do the homework and study guides and you'll be fine.
This is the second semester I have taken a class with the professor and I am thoroughly satisfied with the way she teaches the subject. She is very knowledgeable and knows the subject. I would take her again, if I had to take another math class.
This was the first time I took Mrs. Holcomb and I don't regret it at all. As long as you put the time in and study the handouts and practice test you will be fine. She really works with the students to help them understand and she really wants everyone to do well. I would take her again!
Very fair and always willing to help. She compassionate about math and wants her students to pass. Will pass out projects that has explanations along with practice problems that explains it better than the book. If you do nothing you will not pass class. A little time, effort, and studying of projects & practice tests should not have issue passing.
First time taking Professor Holcomb and she made me like math. All the homework is bookwork or from the packet. No online homework. Do the homework and pay attention and there is no reason you shouldn't pass. She is a very fair grader with lots of opportunity for extra credit on tests. This is college you have to work to pass. Definitely take her.
Silvet is a very good teacher I truly recommend her classes wether it is for 60 or 70. However, don't expect to pass if you do not attend class regularly and do your homework. yes, she does give a lot of homework but it really helps you. She takes out the problems from the test from your homework and quizzes. She really helps if you ask.
Professor Holcom gives many opportunities to improve your grade. She teaches the class in a fast pace and jumps from one chapter to another without explaining much on some chapters. Gives a lot of homework, but at the end is good since that helps you prepare for quizes and tests. Gives a lot of extra credit points and helps you improve your grade.
She's a hard teacher. Doesn't explain well. Very little feedback. Doesn't like you to ask questions.
Extra credit is offered but I barely got any. Watch out for the mid term it's stormy!! Lowered my grade by 7% and most of no one passed. I got depressed because of this class and had to go to psychology. Very hard class. Instruction is hard to follow. Mid-term and final are graded so heavily it drags your grade down.
The teacher went crazy with the red pen on the final. I had red slashes all over my paper when I got it back. So depressing, it was a real bummer. Hard to handle. Her grades are clear, hard to pass at all times, and the test answers, better be like an Einstein to pass. I'm no chemistry teacher but this class did not click for me.
She's so funny. Some times has attitude. Makes the class super easy. Do the HW and the packets and you'll get an A in the class. Ask for help if you need it. I suck at math and I got an A!
Professor Holcomb is super funny and she's a great teacher. She does have an accent but it's easy to understand. Take her if you are looking for a good teacher, she's your best bet. She's very helpful and will keep going until you get the subject. I highly recommend her for math 70
Great professor, sets everything in a dotted line just connect!
Best this ever happened to my life
She's a good teacher, she never gets distracted and has the class is fun. It's not boring at all, always learning and just doing what you have to do. I liked her and would like her for more classes is possible
Great teacher lots of chances for extra credit make sure to participate in class
She really cared about students, and loves to help students one on one.
Really good professor! Super nice and helpful.
Good teacher over all. Come to class & be prepared.
Very enthusiastic and will bug students until they give her an answer, but in a good way. Just don't eat loud foods in her class, turn in assignments and don't play Pokemon go during lectures and you should leave with a C or higher. Also let loose and have fun, she is very lenient, we are talking bringing a live DJ to class (unfortunately IWNThere)
Homework is done through the book. Hands out study guides that will help out a lot with studying for the tests.
Fun class. We even had a party on the day before the final. I had a great time. It was very easy because I tested into it but did not feel I learned all that much.
Very nice as well as will try to help Withought giving away the answers. She's not mean or grumpy all the time
Verp picky about anwsers.. She could come off rude sometimes however she is also funny . Sometimes class seemed hard to understand her lectures. doesnt cover much material in class...
Math 70 summer 2016 She's not very good at explaining things, and thus confuses the students, so the students ask more questions and she gets frustrated, and won't further explain. I am at a good standing point in my class, because I am self taught.
She's a good teacher. If you understand the study guide and homework, you'll do good on the test and quizzes. She's always willing to help and answer students question about math problems. The quizzes and test dates are on the syllabus, so there's no surprise when a quiz is coming. She has everything on a table so you can figure out your grade
I took this class for a refresher. I felt it was easy and the teacher explained everything well and was always welling to help.
It was a challenging class. As long as you pay attention and do the work you will pass with a good grade. She definitely does not baby the students so if you take her be ready. Over all she's an amazing teacher.
Excellent teacher. The only thing I saw that might be difficult for some to handle was the language barrier. Some might take it as being rude when that isn't the case at all. Very straightforward and will always help if you ask.
Very unsatisfied. Will never take a math course with this instructor.
She is a good teacher, I took a summer math class with her and it was tough but not impossible. She is nice and has a good sense of humor which made the class fun :)
Holcomb is fair show and do the work and that is it.
Firm but fair. Is very knowledgeable and is patient when trying to teach someone individually. Is an easy class if you can pay attention and take notes. She is always willing to answer any questions but you can't be afraid to ask them. I would take her class again.
Shes a great profesor aslong as you do wat you have to do and have respect. If you do your work when needed to it will go by really fast and easy i would get her as a profesor again.
She was a very good teacher, she likes to explain things. She goes a little fast sometimes though, just ask her to slow down.
Over all great teacher. Her class is not easy but also not hard.
She's a very fun teacher, will help you out if you get stuck on something and you don't understand, very lenient, I would take her class again
She Is A Very Nice Professor. Explains Curriculum Very Well And Is Understanding When Students Are Confused. Very Straight Forward. If Students Understand The Study Guides And Quizzes, Then All Is Well For Tests.
Good teacher, easy class. But does explain well enough. Need to take more time explaining. But overall she's good. Fun, funny, and at times helpfull. Future note, lots of self taught at home, buy book. Good teacher, you'll like her as teacher .
Math B60 summer 2016 She's very impatient and not very good at explaining. Very confusing a lot of times., so students ask a lot questions and ask her to slow down. She gets frustrated, and becomes demeaning. Saying things like "I already told you __!" and "If you don't get it, I don't know what else I can do for you." Will NOT be taking her again!
Class was alright.
She's a great teacher. Teaches fairly quickly so you must pay attention. Overall I would take her and am taking her again next semester.
I enjoyed this class.
What makes it sorta hard in this class is that she will go over the next chapter before taking the previous test chapter and that would throw my mind off . So if you get thrown off easy I recommend you don't take her . She is a pretty okay teacher though , she manages to get all the way through the lectures.
Great
She's a layback teacher but will make you work if she sees you doing nothing in class. She grades tough but will explain herself on the day before test if you have questions/concerns! Miss a class miss a lot be prepared to do a lot of work in class !
Great teacher that is well respected.
Should explain things better and understand we are learning do not already no what we are being tought
She was a great teacher although I struggled due to not having a good balance. We used project math documents which had a variety of math problems. Plenty of extra credit is given however make sure uou come to class. Be sure to be ready and alert to learn from all the examples Ms. Holcombe teaches.
Mrs. Holcomb is a great professor. She expects you to study ahead and know material before class which makes it easier during class for her to teach and ask specific questions. Book is not needed for the class but it is for homework. Gives plenty of chances for extra credit and is extremely lenient on tests. Pay attention and take notes.
Truly cares for her students. Serios about lectures and clases work. Overall Great profesor.
Lots of homework, lots of extra credit, funny teacher, faste paste
I was able to learn a lot, eventhough I'm not a math person, good professor. Wouldn't recommend to miss class if you are not a math person. Show up everyday and you will be fine.
I absolutely love the fact that she gives you packets from the chapters to work on. She could learn to be more patient on trying to teach the material, but overall I really like her. Definitely must pay attention, because shes clear but straight to the point. She always gives alot of extra credit so try not to miss. She also gives you a cheat sheet
Very funny teacher, she's #thuglife, give lots of opportunity for extra credit, FAIR on homework, gives opportunity to make up test , good teacher
If you don't understand how she teaches I would recommend going to the math center. Do everything that's assigned because the points add up.
You must do the homework and packets to pass the test and show up to class to learn the material
Fairly easy, just pay attention and do the classwork
She was pretty chill, I enjoyed her teaching style.
Good professor she's works at a fast pace , don't miss class & you'll do fine
she doesnt know how to explain, gives attitude when asking for help , rolls eyes . rude.
She has a great personality she definitely will make you laugh. I have to admit I did struggle in the class it was fast pace but at the end she let everyone with an A leave with no final and who ever had a B got the option to keep the B or take the final. I think that was pretty cool of her other wise I believe I would have got a C or lower.
Homework packets and study guides are provided. After the answers would be provided to study. Very good teacher, sometimes more clarification on lectures is needed.
Really good professor. Cares about students and gives many points. Study study study.
She's a good teacher honestly, everything you need to do well. Straight forward with her material, homework questions are test questions, makes it easy to study.
She gives bonus, but I did not understand lecture I had a hard time learning from her she was very confusing I had to teach myself or learn from my classmates how to do the work.
Silvet is a fair professor. No need to purchase the textbook, she uses study guide packets. Sometimes hard to understand due to a language barrier, but she really does care and does what she can to help students.
Expects students to be involved in the lecture and does a lot of group studies during class after quizes to prepare for exams
Really easy you actually learn a lot it actually sticks in your brain lol
I liked this class. Don't think it's an easy A. Study hard and you will pass. Her tests and quizzes are fairly simple.
Be ready to study the study guides and practice test because they are a life savior. She does a great job at explaining shortcuts , but I almost always go back to the solution to the study guides she sends out for a better explanation. Other than that, it's actually easy but difficult to understand .
She's a decent professor. She's comical but that's about it. Her grading is clear but if you ask for help she doesn't really help. DO NOT GET A TEXTBOOK she uses packets not the book. Make sure you're in class because that's where you figure out problems. She gives practice tests and answers before the test.
Teacher is super nice and means well. If you are a visual learner and plan on reading each chaper before each lecture then Holcomb is for you. I personally struggled with her teaching methods as is am a visual learner and if a question was asked because of confusion I was made felt I wasn't listening all along.
I recommend this class! What I like about her is that she gives you study guides with answer key! Which is very helpful!
The best thing about this class is how knowledgeable the professor is about the subject. Do the homework and attend classes you will definitely pass the tests and ultimately the class. Ask her for help and she will help. Participating regularly earns extra credit and she is fun.
First off so hard to understand a teacher who can hardly speak English. Second I don't understand her teaching methods she teaches everything different than the book and the book teaches always explains it easier and shorter methods
As an instructor, she fails. She doest really teach the material she may go over 1 problem and expect you to know how to do the rest. In fairness she gives you the study guide and practice test, with a solution. Watch Professor Leonard on Youtube, you'll be solid! His videos saved me this semester.
There is a disparity of opinions here about Mrs. Holcomb's capability to teach math effectively and fairly. If you struggle with math, speak with an advisor about a math professor that is known to help those who are math-challenged. Avoid this class if you NEED to learn slowly as This professor moves quickly through the material assuming you know.
Fairly easy class to pass if you keep up on your homework! Study the projects she gives and you'll do well on tests!
Gives you a practice test assignment before the test. You need to do all your work in order to pass!
Don't miss the class and try to study with wig a group outside of class it really helps
She is very cheerful, good humor , easy grading on homework , solutions for all chapter worksheets in case you can't understand the lectures and check your work
Do not miss class! You will absolutely fall behind! Can kind of get irritated when asking for help. Make sure you do your homework.
The class states off easy and was easy to follow along. As the chapters went on it got harder but she was there to help you out. She's honestly a really good teacher and if you need help just ask! She can't express that enough. Would definitely take her agin
She is a very fair teacher, but you have to be in class. If you miss a class you could get behind. She welcomes questions and will help you if you ask. Don't be shy.
She is ok, hard grading system, if you do good on test and quiz you will pass.
She is hard but funny
She does have an accent which can be hard to understand, but she will reiterate if you don't understand her. Her grading was fair, and you get to drop your lowest test score! Study guides and practice test helped me so much in the class, do them!!! And the cheat sheet she gives us for each test comes in handy!!!
Class was easy (for me) since I had already taken algebra up to statistics from a foreign school before I moved here. But if you're not good in math, my suggestion is to do the study guide and practice test that she provides every chapter and you'll eventually get it. Don't afraid to ask as she is very helpful. Gives extra points if you participate
She means well. Wants you to learn. And you will use the last 2 chapter on b70. So learn it.
She was a good teacher at first because the things we went over was easy . Then when we hit chapter 5 it all went down . When I would try to ask questions she made me feel dumb and just moved on so it made it hard to even understand what she was doing. I am not taking her class again and hope she slows down just a little for the rest.
She is a caring professor that gives you plenty of chances to pass the class. Homework, quizzes, and extra credit give you leniencey on the tests. I'd take it again.
She is a little tough on the class but I think she means well & wants you to understand the subject. She does give a lot of homework. But if you do the practice test & worksheets you'll do great in the tests & quizzes. I would say I self taught myself mostly in this class she's a great teacher just her lectures can be hard to understand.
Make sure to attend class. Especially towards the end. If you miss a day you miss a lot. Doesn't really use book, but study packets are great.
Mrs Holcomb is a very nice professor however she would get out of order sometimes. And the class would have to correct her. Best to attend the class. I like that she hands out study paper to be able to go over before taking a test.
If you struggle with math at all, you might want to skip this professor. She teaches at a very fast rate and assumes you know the material beforehand. Also if you can't understand the material, she'll get mad and frustrated. I would recommend this professor only if you are proficient in math.
Great teacher , recommended.
Make sure you study and show up to class. Miss a day you miss a lot. Lectures at a semi fast pace but stops for questions.
Great teacher, a little fast paced but if you are a fast learner this class is for you
Great teacher
Great instructor. Gives the class plenty of chances to comprehend the material. If you participate and come to class, do the work, you will pass.
I've taken her twice for two different math classes. I enjoyed my time in her class
She'll always hold you accountable for absenses. So if you didnt plan on being at class make sure you email her ahead of time.
Been going to school for 1 1/2 years. She's my favorite professor. I have taken her twice. Awesome teacher
As long as you do you're homework you'll be fine. It's not too much homework either.
She takes her class very seriously. MUST pay attention because she works very quickly. Seems like she thinks we know the work before she teaches. Don't ask questions twice, she seems to get a bit annoyed. Chapter projects are very helpful, she will provide w solution after, and good for study guide. Just pay good attention and practice at home.
Don't take if you aren't a fast learner. Gets impatient if you don't get it right the first time. Gets upset with questions because believes she spent enough time on material.
Good lectures, not enough extra credit
Don't miss a class. She's fair.... and she is a math genius.
Great Professor! She is a really good professor. She is so nice and very chill. She really helps you understand the math clearly. Sometimes it is difficult to understand her at times but if you ask questions, she will gladly help you. She is always there for her students. I would take her again! P.s We have a pizza party a week before the final.
She is a very sweet and approachable. If math is hard for you to pick up on I would not take her class. She overlaps chapters, making it hard to focus on the chapter at hand. Not much extra credit so know the grade you earn is the grade you get!
Nice professor, average teacher. She can be difficult to understand and her lectures are very fast. If you miss a day and you ask questions she will say, I already went over those. Doesn't like when you ask question. She figures you should know the material.
She expects the students should know what she is teaching already, if you ask for help she will help, but if you don't get it immediately, I mean right away, she gets easily irritated. Her teaching is at a fast, fast pace, overlaps chapters, you are getting around one chapter, and she expects you to know the other chapter too, so frustrating... :(
She's super sweet & a great teacher
Fantastic teacher who provides great help and easy to understand lectures.
Very helpful and focused on individual students not just the class as a whole.
Great professor! She takes time to go over the lesson again for those who need it. Offers a lot of extra credit so if you fall behind a bit you can somewhat make it up.
I took her class during summer semester. I would not recommend you take her unless you're really good at math and can pretty much teach yourself. She does give her students chances for extra point if you participate in class and she hand out a formula sheet for every test and quiz. She has a heavy accent and messes up a lot and confuses herself.
Very Loving teacher , who's grading is even lovelier
Her personality really made coming to class worth it. Teaches so everyone can understand!!!
Great Professor !!! She really makes memes come true!! Very helpful! Just remember to do the homework and you will pass!!
Mrs. Holcomb was great had her 2 semesters ago. I took another professor last semester for B70 and I failed it received an F so I took her again for the summer she's great...I would so take her for stats if she lectured it. She's very Niven in her grading system...
She teaches you alot of methods at once for that equation so be aware of that.
Silvet is a very nice professor. She is funny and likes to make friends with the students. She is a good teacher but can move kinda fast. But she will break it down if you need it. Loves being asked questions and helping students. She explained beginning algebra better than my high school teachers for sure. Lots of bonus questions for extra points.
Good teacher give good feedback. Always walks around and helpful.
Professor Holcomb is a marvelous instructor who can at some times be a little unconventional and at some points hard to understand, she is still a wonderful professor and one of the best I've had.
Lectures are good. Genuinely cares to help students succeed in class. Overall fun and easy class!
I liked how she was very understanding when I missed a week in class. She let me take the quiz and the midterm I had missed. Ask questions and she will help you understand the problem. She's awesome and funny.
Took her for summer. Fast pace. You earn what you get. Don't skip class and do your homework and practice tests.
This class was taken in summer school so it was a bit much to handle but it also helped with retention. I'm sure during the fall/spring semester it'll be easier and manageable.
She's an amazing professor. Don't take this class if you want to be lazy. Hard work is what will get you the grade. Very clear on what she expects and expects you to ask the questions.
She is a great teacher and i would love to take her class again she makes all the problems so clear that math seems fun and all the little tricks to solve all the problems I recommend taking a class with her
Mrs. Holcomb is a great professor although her lectures are very quick.
She's a good professor- show up and do the work. You'll pass this class!
Easy class, relax teacher and we have pizza party
Very easy class. Show up to class n do all your homework n study and you will b fine.
Good teacher. You need to do your homework or you will fall behind.
This was a summer class . So she was very fast paced . At times I felt she expected us to know what we were doing with out taking in consideration that everyone learns at different levels even as adults.
I took her for Summer. She lectures very fast but will spend time to help you out if you need it. She also gives a lot of extra credit. Do the homework and packets and you will pass the class. Most of the problems in the packets are on the test.
She goes through the problems way to fast and doesn't really explain how to do the problems. Doesn't always answer your questions. She needs to slow down and break down the steps so students can get a better understanding.
This professor is HORRIBLE she doesn't care about students especially DSPS students she needs to slow down and answer questions that students have slowly. and don't tell students you should know this from previous class some of us have not been in school for years!! DO NOT TAKE her!!!!
Pro's: Lots of handouts, study guides given, doesn't over lecture class, formula sheets are allowed, calculators allowed, lots of extra credit Con's: Class starts slow but speeds up at end of the semester, don't wait to get tutoring if you need it, doesn't test on chapter till in the next (e.g. Chap 10 test will be during Chap 11 lectures)
I have taken her for b60 and b70 and both times she has helped me plenty. She wants you to learn and to understand and she will try her best to help you. She gives extra credit and on the test and quizzes make sure to look at your study guide because you will see the questions again.
Gives Study guides before tests.
This class had alot of work and missing at all will get you behind. Not very helpful with simple questions.
I love Professor Holcomb, and I would have gotten a better grade if I had not taken introduction chemistry together with this class.
She a great teacher has good personality. Gives a lot of extra credit and you will pass if you do the homework and study.
I took Math B70 of course it's hard! This is a very fast paced class don't fall behind! She gives a lot of chances and extra credit Down side she could slow down and answer question more throughly. But overall I'd take her again plus pizza party at the end so I ain't complaining!
Great teacher that makes you learn your stuff. Dont miss a class because you will miss out on a lot of information. Always stay to the end of class because thats when shell take attendance.
Dont skip any classes, do the homework, participate, ask questions and form study groups. She will not continue until everyone understands. Dont be afraid to ask questions. Accent isnt a problem.
I loved the feedback we were given. It helped gain more knowledge and better test score. I enjoyed her energy and teaching. I would recommend this class to anyone looking for a great experience.
Mrs. Holcomb is an amazing teacher, she is very clear on what she does, she helps you when you need it, and she is very kind.
Shes a great teacher, but she teaches at a very fast pace and doesnt to much back teaching so if you miss a class you need to be good at self teaching or have a friend who takes really good notes but she does offer lots of opportunity for extra cresit
Mrs. Holcomb is very fair. Take good notes and be sure do the homework.
I took Mrs. Holcomb for 2 semesters 60 and 70. I wouldn't change it. She honestly wants you to pass. You ask for help she will help. I also did tutoring. Math is not my strongest subject what so ever.
She's pretty chill, interacts with her students pretty well, she'll tell some stories that are interesting. Just pay attention, as simple as that (with any class). It's not really a tough class. HW is pretty fair not that much, just enough to understand the subject.
This class in the beginning was somewhat difficult but in the end I managed to make good process on my tests. She is very willing to help others when needed and gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. Attendance is mandatory or you'll be behind in class. Homework is given, do it, helps your grade. Cool professor to have.
She is tough( helpful and honest), but the study guides, practice quiz and test help so much. I am not that great in math, so the guides and our math bible helps so much!!! Attendance is mandatory, if you miss a class you miss a lot.
She can go a bit fast but if you ask her to slow down she will ... I WOULD NOT miss a class... You get what you give
Lots of handouts, wish she didn't teach the next chapter before we finish taking the test for the previous. She sometimes makes you feel uncomfortable when asking a question in class. She rambles during lectures, and will totally confused you but somehow it all ends up making since. It's an easy yet hard class
Excelente profesor easy class. Group work is great and helpful.
She gives us a sheet of formulas to use for any type of test or quiz, it's very helpful.
Ms. Holcomb is a very easy teacher. She gives packets out to prepare you for the tests and quizzes, so just study those and youll do fine.
Loved the way she graded and presented the material. Made it easy to understand.
Mrs Holcomb is a good teacher but she misses steps and sometimes goes to fast through the chapter she does care and leaves notes on your tests to be helpful
Study and you will pass
This class was really fun. Professor Holcomb's lectures are straight forward and comprehensive. She breaks down everything by step till you understand. She encourages participation and group work. Would take this class again if given the chance and highly recommend this class to anyone.
Good professor, hard test
Very great professor. Gave me several short cuts I've never seen. Nice
Holcombs learning system, the way she sets up study guides and practice tests are extremely helpful. I am taking her again for math 70.
She is great. Spends alot of time making study packets for us and really goes out of her way to help us with study.
Her lectures are kind of all over the place but she makes study guides that are very helpful during exams. She also gives a quiz that is almost identical to the exams which makes it easy because you know beforehand what to expect on exams. If you come to class everyday you should pass the class.
Go to class, be attentive. There are alot of harder teachers at bc for b60 don't complain. No one likes math. Best b60 at bc
She is a legitimately good teacher with knowledge and interest in the subject she teaches. And while i may not have been an exemplary student, I highly reccomend her. Her one fault is teaching math, a subject that garners few fans from within the students.
Gives study guides for all chapters and they really work for the quizzes and finals, she also includes the solutions at the end of each chapter to double check your work. Homework might be a little more but is manageable . Would recommend to attended class to not be behind.
She is great. Spends alot of time making study packets for us and really goes out of her way to help us with study. I would recommend this professor.
Professor Holcomb was really nice and funny . She explains and teaches really well and gives study guides and practice tests which also help a lot. Also she gives formula sheets and I would take her class every semester . I highly recommend to take her class .
Excellent professor. The practice test and study guides really helps a lot. Do all the homeworks and do good in exams and quizzes. I would probably take her class again for B70.
I took mathB60 with her on fall 2017 and she is very profetional and organize in class . You must do and practice the study guides that she provides on every chapter . You can pass if you do your work .
Professor Holcomb is a good instructor and gives good feedback. Her study packets are also a big help in getting the material down.
Silvet Holcomb is a great math teacher and is willing to help you if you ask and try your best. Many of her Tests/Quiz's are based off the study guide that she gives out each chapter. If you stay on top of the study guide and stay engaged while the class goes through it then you should be fine. Also turn in your HW and you should be fine.
Really good at explaining the math problems & never a dull moment in the class
Mrs. Holcombs teaching style really helped me learn the material. The study guides are awesome. She really provides everything you need to succeed and to be able to pass the quizzes and tests. If youre not willing to do the work, skip this class. Dont waste your time. For those wanting to learn, youre in the right class.
Her ability l to answer students questions are based on who interupted her the loudest. Easily distracted, confuses herself which confuses the class. Expects content to be understood after the first half explained example. Gives extra points away to whomever catches her purposefully placed mistakes first, regardless of other students finding it too
Teacher knows the material very well however, she has no idea how to teach math. For some who absolutely do not understand and need step by step instruction she is not a good teacher for those students.
Dont take her if you are a visual learner. She half write things on the board and half talk, so even looking back on your notes does not make sense. Also if you want to ask questions? She will say something like even an eighth grader would get this and then half explain. Shes mean when you dont understand. I only got a B by teaching myself
There are a lot of frustrating things about her but in my opinion the worst thing is how she starts teaching a new chapter before giving quiz and test on the previous one. She will teach chapter 10, and then teach chapter 11 halfway, then give the chapter 10 quiz and test. So chances are youll forget a lot for the test and quizzes.
she coo, a lil saucy but it's funny. Does study guides and practice tests
She prefers guys and girls and will throw attitude at girls and flirt with the guys. She will not sit down and help you if you havent kissed her ass the whole semester. She doesnt use canvas. She expects you to know everything already and will make you feel dumb for asking questions.
Math is hard but her study guides helped me out a lot I didnt even buy the book and she gives extra credit on every exam which also helps. I took her for math 60 and 70. Passed both with As.
Good teacher. Just go to class and pay attention. She gives study guides so its easy to go back to the material. Quizzes and tests are similar to the study guides she gives.
Awesome teacher. Best study guides at the entire school. Do study guides, show up, do homework, and it's extremely. I failed algebra 2 a few times in high school and I got a b. Literally just try and you will succeed
I like the study guide packets for each chapter that she hands out . But I highly disliked how she only would do 1 or 2 examples of each lesson & then just moved on, even if some students were Confused. Not very patient. I did well In this class but only because I went to tutoring & classmates that helped me.
Wish she were teaching pre-calc
She very clear on what you need to do to pass. She gives study guides and practice test and it's extremely helpful
She a good teacher but her study guides have mistakes and she don't go over mistake found by other students. So you may think you are doing the correct way but your really not.. so ask questions!!!!!! I took her twice and no book need she give all material you need which was cool.
Teaches the basics and is very helpful. Dont need textbook gives you the pages with the problems you will do as homework though email. Lost of oppertunities for extra credit. Take notes and ask questions and you will pass.
Just go to class and don't miss. Her study guides are definitely helpful and lifesavers. Would definitely recommend if you're not a math person. Be prepared for her to get off topic a lot though.
She an can be an easy professor but on her lectures she only gives little bit of examples and some you need to teach yourself. Her studyguides and practice tests helps a lot. Tests seem easier then the study guides!! I recommend doing ur hw before class, So it can be easy to understand her the new lecture! She gives extra credit questions!
She makes you work, it isn't an easy class, but it is do-able. Don't fall behind.
Shes all over the place. Doesnt explain throughly and gets easily frustrated. Will move on to the next lecture even if youre still confused and dont understand. Scolds you like a young child. I wouldnt take her again.
The best Professor ever.
Good instruction for the most part. A little confusing at moments, especially if you're offering a suggestion or making a correction. I had brought up some mistakes on some of her assignments and was told I'd be able to get ec points if mistakes were caught, but she decided they were typos and didn't count. Typos matter, can make a new equation.
At times you are left on your own to teach the material.
Only gives a few examples for each lecture. Sometimes u need figure it out on your own. If you do your hw before each lecture you wont feel lost! Study guides and practice test prepares you for the test. Test are easy compare to study guides. Tx- book you dont need she emails you the hw questions! P.S students who have an A doesnt take the final:)
Everyone who grades this professor as an awesome teacher, are proficient in math; on the other hand, If you struggle with math DO NOT TAKE HER!! If you ask a question more than once she will get on your face immediately, gets easily irritated, many of my classmates knew this, so we didn't ask more than twice. We have to find the answers on our own
If you already know what youre doing, then take her because shes a good teacher she just doesnt explain herself very good. She expects you to already know your stuff.
You must participate in every class to feel like you aren't getting lost. In my opinion she is a great teacher and her study guides are the best draw to her class.
She seems cool as a person but not quite teaching material. She gets mad if you ask questions. She has no patience to explain the material.
She will help if you fall behind on understanding a really good person
Amazing professor makes life so much easier for those who dont like math. Gets to the point no dancing around the main idea. I would like to take This professor again for the next math class I have to take
Gets off topic a lot
This teacher was nice man. And what I mean by that is she sets the material out. Shows how it is supposed to be done. Walks you through it on your own. And still gives you a practice test and/or quiz before every chapter. If you want a good math coach who wont let you down shes the one to go to
If you don't put in any effort, you won't last long. You need to study outside of class and do extra problems if you are having trouble, because she will keep the class moving forward. She is more than fair with extra points and gives plenty of opportunities to do well in the class, but you have to take it seriously and put in the extra effort.
Shes a good professor but shes a fast teacher you have to keep up you have to pay attention & She gets distracted a lot. Other than that shes a pretty good professor
Overall she's a good professor she goes step by step on every problem and tries to make it as understandable as possible for everyone. The study guides have helped a ton during the process.
Shes a great teacher and helps you when it comes to ask questions... In order to pass her class you have to work hard
This professor pickes the easiest problems out of the text book and makes a packet out it. She does get frusterd sometimes when she has to repeat her self to the class. Do your homework make time to study and show up you will pass.
I noticed her trying her best to make sure everyone understood her lecture even for those students who have difficulty with math she made sure she helped
I learned alot from taking this class and the professor taught me so much that I thought i knew. It's like she rewired my brain and made everything make sense. I didnt find it hard to understand the material how she explained it & always showed us why something was the way it is unlike others that just say its because so. I am glad I took this clas
This professor is a nice person, but as a teacher she is hard to follow. If you catch her mistakes on the board, she says you get extra credit, but if you are a visual learner it can through you off. If math comes easy, you will be fine.
Shes a great professor if you come in knowing what youre doing. Math is my weakest subject, and I came in knowing it wasnt going to be easy. However, she expects a lot. And when we dont understand and try to ask questions it seemed like she would get upset because we didnt understand the material. She isnt as harsh when it comes to grading.
I like the way she is teaching math
Professor Holcomb is helpful and fair. The class is straight forward and consist of homework, quizzes, and tests for each chapter. It is easy to keep track of your grade and there are opportunities to earn extra credit. I feel well prepared for B70.
Overall she cares deeply for her students. She wants them to pass. That makes a good teacher.
She tries her best to help you understand the material given to you and she goes into detail about everything so just make sure you take detailed notes and you'll pass
She really cared about her students passing. If you try you will pass with a good grade.
Would not recommmend for summer school unless you are good in math.
Highly recommend! She moves at a good pace.
Professor Holcomb is an amazing instructor. At first I was intimidated by her teaching style but the study guides truly do help a ton. She gifts the students with these study guides, appreciate them. I wish I had put more effort into this class because it truly is an easy A. Just try your absolute best. Go to tutoring. Ask her questions. Take her!!
Charismatic made class a joy
Class was easy, she makes a few mistakes in class but thats where you can correct her and earn extra credit. Very cool teacher, not strict, or annoying.
Professor Holcomb cares deeply about her students and strives for their success. She is very patient during her lectures so ask all the questions that you have. She offers a ton of extra credit as well as a formula sheet that she provides to be used during quizzes and tests.
Participate and help others and you will earn extra credit. She teaches at a past pace but if your paying attention and asking questions you will understand. Make sure you always show up to class or you will be lost the next time you go to class. Overall, She is an Amazing professor!
She means well, but she promises a lot of extra credit at the beginning of the school year which, in my experience, never happened when the requirements for extra credit were made. I should have never bought the book. Was never used. She does give a lot of study guides and practice tests, which helped. Shes passable, but you have to work!!!!
Prof. Holcomb is an awesome teacher and I'm saying this as a person that both hates math and is not good at math. She is straightforward, you literally have a study guide for every chapter to help you practice and the practice tests are like the tests. Shes passionate about math and can get carried away, but it's not a bad thing. Ask Questions!!!!
Took this class with professor Holcomb during the summer and at first I was scared because math is not my best subject. But if you put the work in and PAY ATTENTION and listen to the feedback she gives you , you will pass the class. I wish I had taken math b60 with her because she made math so much easier for me to understand ! She is awesome.
Overall a great professor
Great Professor. So passion.
She is really helpful and does the best to help you even if it means taking time out of her busy day...
The most careing professor I have ever had here at b.c show up do your homework and study those study guides. You will pass but you need to listen and follow her instructions.
Lots of quizzes and tests but provides enough material to study and pepare. Pay attention and take good notes!
Love this professor second time taking her so glad I took her again she makes math easy to learn
Come to class and do the homework and youll pass
This class is a very test heavy class. You recieve lectures on each chapter that go towards the quizzes and test. These lectures are import to pay attention to if you plan on not studying before the test or quiz.
Really easy class just have to stay focused and pay attention.
A very good professor
Show up everyday, read the chapter before you show up, study, participate, and dont give up. She can be confusing, but if you keep your cool youll be fine. If you fail this class its because you didnt do what I listed above.
Lectures can be a little confusing but if you pay attention take notes & do hw you will b fine. Would take her class again very helpful
If you show up and do the work you should be able to pass fairly easily.
Gives many studies guides that are helpful in and outside of class. Also gives solutions for the study guides and practice tests. Very easy and simple homework. Offers numerous extra credit points in and outside of class. As long as you pay attention and ask questions you'll do just fine. Great teacher to take. Not very difficult just stay focused.
Professor Holcomb is very specific and strict but also gives second chances. All she expects from you is to show up to class, take notes, and complete your study guides. As long as you pay very close attention and study regularly everything should be just fine and you should pass this class with the grade you want no problem. Ask for help as needed
Shes is a very great teacher! Is always finding her way to help others and to help make up test! Gives you study guides for every test which helps out a lot! Had a very good experience with her!
She knows what shes doing but her teaching techniques and explanations arent very good. There is a clear language barrier with her making it hard for her to understand anybody.
I did not enjoy taking this class w professor Holcomb because shes disorganized. Shes a wonderful person but I wanted a teacher that explains concepts in a more clear manner. This class is definitely for someone who can pace themselves and is self motivated. In the end, I really wanted to impress her with my evolution as a student. And I did.
If you struggle in math dont take her.
This professor is great person, i rated her low because her teaching technique is difficult to follow She knows what she is doing but this class is more for those who already know math . She moves fast through her course. You miss a day you fall behind. Get the book you will use it . If you have a hard time with math DO NOT TAKE HER !!
This professor, wants you to learn the way she wants, she says the way you had been taught is not correct, she doesn't explain the rules as to why you have to do certain steps, you ask for questions she gets upset and aggravated, &embarrasses you by going up in front of the class to ask the question. Professor should not teach lower math.
Tends to make students feel bad for asking questions. Also gave complicated explainations for simple things
She is very kind, but she moves very fast with her teaching. If you take her you will have to do studying at home to keep up!
She teaches alright but doesnt go into detail most the time
A good class to catch up with the basics again in math as you get ready to take harder math, but is still a challenge nun the less so you need to work extra hard for your grade
be ready to take notes . you need the textbook for the homework . keep every paper she gives back grades & do extra credits when given!
Seems to find it difficult to think of multiple ways to explain concepts, so it can be rough if you dont understand her first explanation. However she is pretty fair, and will work hard to help individually if you ask and are genuine. Might not be a great choice if you already struggle with math.
Take notes , the book is needed for homework. Take the extra credit. Keep all papers.
She is hard to follow sometimes because she goes off on verbal tangents.
shes nice but sometimes confusing
Shes a good professor dont get me wrong, but I got a A in the class on my own. I hardly payed attention.
Hard to understand Very confusing Confuses herself Learned better when created a study group where we taught each other
Teacher gets impatient fast. She kind of expects students to already know how the subject. She doesnt really teach the class she more like just reviews things. She can be hard to understand sometimes and gets confused easily while teaching. Be ready to teach yourself & I Would not recommend her to anybody. Good luck. Youll need it.
She is a helpful one on one teacher. Lectures can sometimes not be as helpful. Heavily weighted tests, quizzes and midterms. Lots of hw. Allows makeups if a class is missed, under her discretion. Not an easy A, you have to work very hard to get your grade! Take EVERY assignment/test/quiz/midterm/final seriously!
Easily gets frustrated with students and their questions, she expects us to know what we're doing. Sometimes came off as she thought we were stupid when questions were asked. Did not help me learn anything. I only passed the class because I got help from other students in the class and worked in a group.
Professor Holcomb is very kind. However, you will be teaching yourself most of the work. She basically just does a review in the class and does not actually teach. Her test are always easier than homework problems/study guides she chooses.
She doesnt do a good job explaining anything, Terrible lectures, makes too many mistakes. Most of the class got a 60% on numerous quizzes and she blames the class. Rude if youre absent with excuse. Treats the class as though everyone took previous lessons with her but no one understands her previous class references. Very tough to understand.
Be prepared to learn the material on your own!!! This professor doesnt do any teaching so its tough especially if you have never been in a pre calculus class before. Her lectures are purely the examples straight from the textbook. She is disorganized and makes a mistake on about every problem she does on the board. Wastes a lot of time as well.
