The only intelligent thing to ever be spoken by this grossly self absorbed professor was: "Writing can be cathartic. It can also be a powerful weapon." Truely insightful. Too bad I already knew this or I might have been able to say I actually learned something in this horrible excuse for a composition class. I'd elaborate, but I'm out of room.

If you believe the Moores were from the Middle East, that the Passion of the Christ was solid fact, that Jesus went to England, that Othello and Iago were gay lovers, and generally love to hear blisteringly wrong "facts," then this class is for you. She should be fired and anyone who listens to her without question is a moron.

Extremely inadequate. Since the first day of class she was 20-30 minutes late. She has no assigments throughout the semester, so when you finally hand in your final assignment and write your final paper you have no idea what she expects. I Guarantee she doesn't read any of the assignments and grades generically. Also, makes up stories.

This Long Island lady is so full of herself and makes up useless and dumb facts. In stead of focusing on works of literary merit, she reads us her "Sylvia's Corner" column she writes. She is closed minded and intolerable. She is great at memorizing random essays, but has little teaching ability. super easy. Taker her if you can stand her ignorance.

Worst professor ever did not learn anything from her class gives essays or as she calls them logs just for fun never ever does she really read them I would never take a class with her again very useless doesn't teach anything. Avoid her at all costs.

By far worst teacher I have ever had at Hofstra. Don't take her. I learned nothing and tried very hard for nothing and I had already taken the same course in high school so I knew all the readings and still didnt do as well as I expected

Horrible teacher, comes in 15 minutes late every class. doesn't help you at all and makes it like she does. thinks she's the best teacher when she's not. I like all my teacher besides this one, it is an actually struggle waking up for her class. SO boring all i do is look to leave when i actually do show up. DO NO RECOMMEND!

She is honestly a horrible teacher and I don't know why her reviews are not worse than they are. She spends the whole class talking about her life, and in the last 10 minutes assigns unclear papers. She does not follow the syllabus, nor does she explain assignments clearly enough. She makes you write logs that are due at the end of the semester.

She assigns these papers and literally never explains them, which are due at the end of the semester and then has the actual nerve to be a tough grader. Take her if you want to be bored all semester and then get a mediocre grade

She only grades your papers on mid term and final, so that means you will not receive any comments on your papers until those times. She just lets us read a lots of articles during class, then assigns the works. That is how the whole class works. If I have a chocie again, I would never take this class.

Didn't learn a thing, hard grader, and always goes off on tangents. Grades you poorly even if she doesn't teach you anything. Avoid having her, she creates so much stress in your life.

Expects huge essays done in only a few day. Tough grader and lots of Homework.

Social terms and a brothers murder

This was by far my worst class at Hofstra to take. I literally learned nothing and received zero feedback on anything. With the shift to online this semester, she changed nothing and had us send her the logs and presentation and had us comment on each other. Literally gave me a B without explanation and did not read my paper until the day b4 the PE

worst professor I took in Hofstra. Very unorganized. Assigns tons of essay logs that are worth the majority of your grade but can not remember the essay assignments she assigned herself. She makes up her assignments on the spot. A majority of the class we are writing about boring long passages. Made us write everything by hand. Avoid at all costs.

Doesn't answer emails, gives an essay every week, don't take this class. Her lessons consist of us doing either homework in class or watching videos online, should honestly be fired, class is a joke. Sometimes does zoom for literally no reason whatsoever besides the fact that she is too lazy to leave her house. Can't miss more than 2 classes.

She would always come in class late or switched to zoom suddenly which is inconvenience. She also does nothing in class, and at the same time expected participation. At the last week, she had people to write an essay to explain why the student should get a grade(ex A-), and she will ignore it just put the grade as it shows.

Don't recommend! She is a bad, tough grader, you could get an 100 on all the assignments & have a perfect grade & if she thinks you didn't do well on one assignment, it could TANK your grade drastically. Attendance is very mandatory, can't miss much classes or you will literally fail. She doesn't help students & doesn't allow for any improvement.

Her directions and grading criteria are very unclear. She would always deduct points from assignments for no reason and does not offer any opportunities to improve. She is very unorganized and always comes to class late or switches to Zoom at the last minute and on top of that is very rude and selfish. Overall, horrible experience!

You will not get an A in this class because she refuses to give them out. She never explains what she wants to see on her assignments, and just deducts points like crazy and on top of that is very narcissistic and selfish. She offers no room for improvement, and all we do in class is either reading required texts or working on homework.

Her behavior towards students was extremely unprofessional. Constantly yells at and blames students for the smallest things. Goes off on multiple tangents about current events and politics.

She doesn't care how much effort you invest into your writing, as she will constantly penalize you over the smallest details. Always late or switching to zoom. She has made absolutely no effort to help students do well in the class. Unclear with papers which are due every week, moves through the lessons way too quickly, makes students participate EVERY class. Will penalize you over the smallest detail and not allow for any high grades.

I felt like she made us unlearn everything we had learned about successful writing in her class. Will never be taking her again.

This is an intro level course, and she expects you to write professional essays weekly with little to no direction on the material itself. She treats this class like it's the only class you have so she's very strict on due dates and attendance, even if you have valid reasons to miss a deadline or class.

Extremely rude, arrogant, and quite pompous. Has a very unfair grading policy and strict policy on attendance, and when our class discussed our issues, no changes were made. Goes on class-long rants about lots of controversial topics, makes students discuss the readings in front of the class, and doesn't make effort to help prepare for the PE.

She is extremely rude and nasty towards students. If you miss a class, good luck getting her to excuse you. If you can't turn in an assignment on time, good luck convincing her to give you an extension. If you have a question, good luck getting a clear answer from her without having to repeat yourself. Also inaccessible via email.

This is supposed to be an intro level course and it's incredibly frustrating that she hasn't invested any effort into helping her students do well. Navigating her syllabus is legit impossible. You'll have to talk to her (and ask at least 3-4 times) just to get a clear response. Stay away if you want to keep your GPA high.

Prof. Montemurro needs to be fired from her position. Grades every assignment out of a few points, so if you do bad on one assignment, there isn't much opportunity to do better. Not to mention, she disrupts the course to discuss her views on controversial topics. She has a very nasty attitude towards students when you ask questions.

Took back in Spring 2022. It was clear from the beginning that she doesn't care about her students. Doesn't explain anything and has you write 5 paragraph essays on a weekly basis, gives awful and unclear feedback, and gives you a grade based on what she feels like. I also have reason to believe that there were plagiarism accusations made as well.

She is so hilariously bad that her bad comments go all the way back to 2003. During class, she sits on her laptop and demands participation from students, disrupts the class to go on rants about controversial topics, and gave us an unclear syllabus with no clear directions on assignments or grading policy, which didn't fairly represent my class.

She has been nothing but disrespectful, nasty, and extremely condescending towards students. Nitpicks every part of your writing, harsh grading, unclear with assignments, gives little to no constructive feedback, and doesn't allow for improvement. It seems as if she doesn't wanna teach and just takes it out on students.

After 3 weeks, had to drop because she was so harsh. She has no structure to the class itself or her lectures. Assigns papers every week and refuses to explain anything in detail. She likes to think that she's doing you a favor by giving an extension or reclarifying an assignment. She speaks to students with nothing but disrespect.

She's one of those professors who doesn't like her job and takes it out on her students. I have honestly learned nothing in just the first half of this class besides the fact that she's very arrogant, nitpicky, and disrespectful towards her students. How are current events and politics related to a writing class? She needs to do better.

A completely irresponsible human being and mess of a professor. Why is it that she has problems with almost everything that we do, but when students voice their concerns, we end up being silenced? Why does she talk about politics and current events EVERY SINGLE CLASS? I hope one day she realizes how poorly she has treated her students.

This is one of those professors who thinks tenure allows her the freedom to not have to care for her students. She's never on time and is never on top of planning for her classes. She's very disorganized, yells at and blames students for nothing, and is EXTREMELY strict on attendance, so you cannot afford to miss a class without penalty.

She made her class far from easy. She was never on time and never came to class with a plan. Often threw work at us and expected us to know how to do it without explanation. She speaks aggressively to us and throws a temper tantrum when she's proven wrong or when asked questions. Honestly have no clue how she's allowed to be teaching.

She's one of those professors who thinks tenure automatically makes them the victim, when it doesn't. Throws a tantrum when you ask a question, talks at students instead of to students, insane amount of work for an intro course. Oh, and attendance is super important. If you were at the hospital, she would probably want you in class that same day.

DO NOT EVEN THINK AB IT I took her class back in 2023 and I still haven't had the courage to take WSC 2 One time she put me on blast in front of the whole class js cz I didn't know the answer to a question (??)I literally got up and left right after she finished interrogating me I ended up having panic attacks every single time I went to that class

Won't answer emails. Doesn't read students essays and instead rushes through your essays with point deductions and unclear feedback over the most pointless things. SUPER attendance heavy as well. If you miss one class, there is very little chance of making up for it.
