She is very helpful and makes class interesting and fun. She is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Really enjoyed her class.
Diaz is particular in the work you turn in but will let you re-do it for the same amount of points. She makes class fun while you are learning a lot. Good teacher to take!
Dr. Diaz is such a sweet lady! Easy assignments & open book midterm..what more can u ask for?!
nice lady, easy class, very unclear
Mrs. Diaz is a great professor. she has a lot of knowledge and is very helpful. very highly recommended.
Great professor. Very passionate about what she does. She is always willing to help you but she is sometimes a little unclear. Her accent is thick and hard to understand. If you go to class every day and participate, you will do good. Her tests are open book too. Take her!
Dr. Diaz is very nice and makes class fun. She is very hard to understand, however, and often you don't know what you were supposed to do on an assignment until you get it back from her.
Probably the best professor I've had at UCF.She is very sweet and brings alot of personal experience to the class. Lots of work, but if you do it and study for tests, its an easy A
Prof. Diaz is great. She is very pasionate and cares about her students and about what she teaches. The key to an A is participation. I would take another class taught by her anyday.
I loved this class. The assignments are very time consuming but are obviously useful in your future classroom.
Mrs. Diaz is a superb teacher.Passionate in teaching us how to educate ESOL students drawing from her own personal experiences. She is very interesting to listen to, I have learned so much from her that I know I will remember what she taught in the years to come.Dept. of Ed mandates that she gives us a lot of assignments.Exams are easy & open book.
Nice lady, but somewhat confusing at times. Very geared toward Elementary students. Gives decent assignments although long. Very Helpful!
Nice lady, but doesn't explain exactly what she wants from assignments until after she has turned back your paper with a grade! Hard to understand her at times... Assigns busy work, busy work, busy work! And doesn't grade assignments fairly...
Very, very nice lady and willing to help. However, very unclear about what she expects and you don't find out what she wants until after you get your papers back. Lots of busy work in class that serves no purpose.
She's a pretty good teacher, could be much worse. This class does have more assignments than most other classes I've been taking, so it takes a bit of time, but they're not too difficult. Expect a lot of group work. Tests are open book.
the syllabus seems overwhelming but everything is easy, she grades easy too, class is boring and she likes to repeat herself, but shes nice and its an easy A or B if u slack hardcore
She is a really nice woman and a great teacher! There is a lot of work to be done in the class but she will work with you if you have a problem and the work is pretty easy. She really wants to help you become the best ESOL certified teacher around!
The class is easy but there are a lot of assignments that just busy work. She repeats herself in class, the class is very boring. The tests are easy (open book) but if you miss a class she isn't helpful in making up work.
I LOVE HER!!! If You Ever Get A Chance To...Take Her!! Her Class Is Not Boring & She Explains How To Use The ESOL Strategies By Doing Them In This Class... She Gives Open Book, One Note Tests, Easy Grader & Exciting Class!!! I Would Take Her Again If I Could...
She's fun, excited about her subject and tries really hard to inspire interest in her students. She uses the ESOL strategies she teaches. Her accent is a little difficult sometimes, but I definitely recommend her!
Class was horrible and pointless. Could have been doing better things with my time while I had to be in class.
EASY Class!!! EASY A...She is so nice and helps you out with everything.
She is very into teaching. You will learn alot through a lot of detailed assignments. She if very through. But she has an interesting perspective on the subject and loads of experience. Everything is related to something even what seems like busy work.
Do NOT take her. She is the worst teacher that I have ever had at UCF. She can't communicate herself to you then gets frustrated when you ask questions. She can't explain her assignments and can't even understand the questions that are asked. If you have a choice do not chose her.
She is not clear on anything she does. You have a lot to do in the class and all of it is due at the end of the semester so do not wait to do them! Also her tests are essay form only. She doesnt show u how to do the ESOL notebook either which is the whole point of the class. U have to go to her urself if u wanna know how it is to be done.
Not sure why some of the comments about her were bad; maybe those comments were left by the girls in my class who sat in the back and talked the entire semester! Anyway, she is great. Very helpful. Tests are OPEN BOOK,how much easier can you get?! Assignments given up front....you have the whole semester to complete them. Great teacher!
I loved Ms. Diaz! She is a TEACHER, not just a professor. She cares about you and your future and even though she expects a lot from you, she gives a lot of helpful advice and resources to benefit you in the long run. Best advice for this class is do not get overwhelmed when she goes over everything that will be due, it's not that bad!
Very nice teacher. Very helpful and interested in seeing you succeed as a teacher. This class was very easy to get an A in. Her assignments are very easy and she grades pretty easy as well. Class time wasn't usually used efficiently but for the A, it was worth it! ***She will let you re-do assignments to improve your grade*** Awesome teacher!
I loved her!! She's absolutely adorable, and her stories are very interesting. She has you apply what you're learning in your other classes, and really cares about your success in the class. Tests are open book, and you can redo assignments. Take her if you can!!
Mrs. Diaz is adorable! she is an amazing teacher who is always willing to help you out. there were few times that her assignments were unclear, but meeting with her for 5 mins fixed those problems immediately! also all tests are OPEN BOOK. tough tests but so not bad if you study a little and bring your book! I love Mrs. Diaz!
she's nice and sort of easy but unclear about the TESOL notebook I had alot of questions about the notebook and she mock cried at me by rubbing her eyes and saying "boo hoo" and when girls said they couldn't find their papers she said "come cry to me about it later". take her if you dont need a TESOL notebook to graduate, don't it you need one
absolutely frustrating, avoid at all costs, clearly has favorites in the class
One of the most confusing profs. I have ever had. She says one thing, you turn in the assignment, and she says another.
While she knows her stuff, her explanations are often very confusing. She is very much geared towards elementary. Activities in class are often a waste of time and hard to relate into reflections.
She's really sweet and she wants you to do well in her class. Some of her assignments are a bit confusing but she'll go over them thoroughly until you get it. The class is an easy A and it's also a lot of fun
This professor was worth my money. She was always available to answer any questions and helped you understand the assignments. USE her office hours. She loves that in her students. I still go and see her about my TSOL notebook. She made the class interesting and not just lectures. I learned a lot!
Wonderful Professor!Shes so sweet n understanding.Shes emphathetic n passionate abt her class. She really helps u.She does have alot of work in her class, but its doable. She tells u exactly how to get an A, its funny. Her class is fun, its good to participate.U use the book alot. This class n professor is great! She really teaches u.Take Her!!
This class is awesome if you love busy work. Her whole perspective is geared towards Elementary Education, so if you are anything but, be prepared to sit around twiddling your thumbs most of the time. Assignments are confusing and a waste of time.
Diaz, being from Cuba herself has a lot of personal experience with being a ELL and shares it with the class. She really wants everyone to get an A in the class. Tests are open book, assignments are lengthy but well explained and doable. Very helpful in the TSOL notebook. I learned a lot and she made me think from an ELL perspective. Great Job!
Silvia Diaz is an amzaing porfessor. She is extremely knowledgeable and is willing to help all of her students. She wants you to succeed and learn. Take her if you can, you wont regret it. She also knows a lot about the TESOL notebook and is very resourceful.
Mrs. Diaz is an excellent teacher. Her assignments are time consumming but her exams are open book. She is fair when it comes to grading. If you do need help she will help in anyway possible until you understand the assignment.
Great teacher! cares about all the students and wants you to learn. Two presentation, 1. chapter 2. cultural project. the chapter presentation in where you teach the class about that chapter and work with a partner the cultural is where you work in a group of about 5 ppl and present. therefor Diaz doesnt do much teaching. you learn a lot and havefu
Great teacher! She really cares about the subject and her students. I took her early in the morning and she was always so nice and happy and very excited to teach the material. I've heard she's the complete opposite for night classes. So take her early in the morning if you can
Mrs. Diaz is a very caring teacher. There are a lot of assignments that take up a lot of your time, but they are easy. She provides rubrics for all assignments and is always avail if you need her.
She acts like her class is the only thing that anyone has to do. She gives work like no tmr. She also NEVER teaches the class. The students teach every single class meeting. Then when you don't understand, she acts like your stupid. I disliked this class and would never take her again. I prefer teachers who teach. The work load was crazy. STAY AWAY
She is a lovely professor however she rarely teaches. I wish she had taught each class instead of putting my education in the hands of my classmates. If she did away with the student presentations, I believe this would be a fun and useful class for any education major.
I've had a lot of friends say that they love their TSOL professors, which means there are better ones out there! She does these boring/pointless powerpoints that do nothing but put you to sleep. Prof doesn't offer grades throughout semester. DONT TAKE HER! FIND ANOTHER!
I adore Dr. Diaz, she's very nice, but the AMOUNT of work she loads on you is JUST WRONG. It's not hard work but there is so much of it. She teaches by putting the information all on a powerpoint and then reading you the powerpoint--this means class is VERY boring, but mandatory. Midterm is openbook but essay form.
she really loves to talk and is really down to earth. her class is easy, but there is so much work she gives at one time. the hardest part in the whole class was getting the work done. so if you dont easy but tons of work, she is the teacher for you.
she is the BEST teacher. she gives u instructions for every assignment that is due and she grades easy. she has 2 projects, 1 midterm (open book), fianl, and The Florida consent decree paper (its time consuming, so don't procrastinate!)just do the work and u will get an easy A!!
This class was great. I learned alot from Mrs. Diaz and she was very helpful with all assignments. All rubrics are clear, and if you do the work you will get an A. Although it was group presentations, I still learned alot. Mrs. Diaz by far has been one of the best teacher I have taken at UCF education program.I wish she taught more ESOL classes
Don't get me wrong, I loved Prof Diaz but this class has an insane amount of work! And its not anything substantial, just silly pointless busy work. It should be an easy A but regardless, she doesn't teach much and makes you do a massive amount of NOTHING. She's a really nice sweet person and the class is fun but if you can get someone else, do so.
I couldn't agree more with the review below! Ms. Diaz is sweet and funny, but the amounts of busy work she gives is just ridiculous! It's very frustrating when you have other classes as well. She repeats herself too much and can be very confusing. Also, don't ask her any questions, she doesn't like it. If you can take someone else.
Professor Diaz is one of the best professors I have had in the Education field so far. She teaches you what is essential and by the end of the class if you compelte everything, you will know far more than you did before the class. It is a lot of work, but is worth the time because a challenge is more beneficial in the long run.
Great teacher!! She is very understanding and helpful. She wants you to pass her class. The work that she gives is helpful in becoming a teacher.
She is such a sweet lady! She makes the class fun and as interesting as possible so time passes by quickly. I would highly recommend her for TSL 4080 because she will help you with your TESOL notebook and is very helpful if you have any questions. She knows what she is teaching! Awesome lady! Take her!!!!
Mrs. Diaz was a great professor. She was engaging had such a passion for the subject. Also, she was more than willing to help if needed. Lastly, her grading was fair and there were no surprises on her exams.
Mrs. Diaz is extremely helpful! There is A LOT of busy work, but you will learn a lot from it. She's very knowledgable about teaching ESOL. Take her!
Dont take her if you can avoid it! I have no idea what the other students we're thinking when they said she was a good teacher. She must have a twin or something because she is NOT a good education teacher. She talked to the class like we were firstgraders and doesnt like to be asked questions.Doesnt explain directions clearly but grades very hard.
I can not understand her! She does not answer questions and definitely does NOT give clear directions! There is a new project due every week. And the work isn't challenging to the mind, just annoying and tedious. All it really does is test your sanity. Do not take her. Let me stress this again, DO NOT TAKE HER COURSE!
The class starts you preparing your TESOL notbook. She is super helpul! If you miss class all you have to do i go to another of her classes and get credit to receive full participation.
This class was A LOT of work. Its not hard, but its very tedious. She is a very nice person but she was not helpful or clear when it came to the assignments. Also, her final exam is ridiculous!!! I would suggest taking someone else for this course.
She loves to assign work and make things harder than it needs to be. she's more about quantity work than a quality. I couldn't wait for the class to be over. Not hard just too much work.
Love her. She really cares about her students and education. Only a final and midterm test wise. Everything else is projects including presenting a chapter from the book and a culture with a group.Assignments aren't hard. She gives very detailed instructions and great resources for assigments. Follow her instuctions. Very helpful for TESOL notebook
She is very sweet and helpful but also expects participation and excitement from her students. Easy A if you do all the work and come to class.
Mrs. Diaz is very nice and helpful. SHe will thouroughly explain all assignments and gives you examples of everything. She lets you sit in her other classes if you can't make it to yours so you won't be absent which is really helpful when you can't make it to class. Very sweet lady..midterm is open book. easy class if you do your part..do the work!
This class was made much harder than it needed to be and there were assignments upon assignments, plus a very long midterm (she called it a short response essay) but I literally wrote 5 pages during that test! If you take this teacher be prepared to have no life.
She makes everything so much more complicated than it needs to be, and makes everything sound so much harder than it really is. DON'T take her if you don't have to, it's unnecessary stress. She stretches about 30 minutes of information into 3 long hours of boring lecture.
This was my least favorite class during the semester. She is very picky about following guidelines and formatting when it comes to assignments. Even if you understand something conceptually and don't have it formatted correctly you're going to get a terrible grade. BUT She was willing to do office hours, and helped me with my TESOL notebook though.
Mrs. Diaz is very informative and helpful. She will tell you exactly what she wants from your assignments. As long as you follow the rubric you will be fine! She's awesome!
This class is HARD BORING and 100% TEDIOUS. Im not joking I am a straight A student. The teacher is extremely picky and the final is extremely hard. She makes you HATE ESOL and I am hispanic lol PLEASE take another professor or else you will stress out more than you really need to. This class should not be super stressful and boring.
Mrs. Diaz is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about ESOL issues and education. She loves the teaching profession as a whole and has high expectations of her students. She explains everything thoroughly, is available for additional help during her office hours, and treats her students as professionals. She's all around fantastic.
Overall, an OK professor. She is friendly and obviously is passionate about education for ESOL students but she was not clear in her assignment expectations. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE or you will be sorry. The cultural project and consent decree take at least a few hours each. Most of the assignments are required by UCF though.
AVOID. She's a HARD grader. She will write something on your work and return it and never talk to you again about it. She doesnt explain stuff out and expects you to just know everything. TEDIOUS work. Expect to spend majority of your semester on this ONE class. she will talk to you like youre an idiot if you email her with a question. avoidifucan.
Mrs. Diaz is a wonderful professor. She cares about her subject and us students. She is available to help during her office hours almost every day of the week and is reachable by e-mail as well. Not an easy A by any means, but if you work hard and come to class, you will learn a LOT and get the grade you deserve.
Professor Diaz loves what she does and you can see it in her class. There is a lot of work but nothing incredibly difficult. Do not procrastinate the Consent Decree project! She is very helpful and you do learn a lot in her class. The book is a must have! She is very sweet and experienced! Recommend her!
Teacher is very unclear on assignments. She does not teach, but sits in the back while students present chapters. She is a nice person, but does not teach.
This class has been a disappointment. The assignments are fairly easy, but they are usually tedious and very time-consuming. The professor spends more time assigning projects than actually teaching, which is often frustrating. This class is filled with projects, so if you are already going to have a busy semester, try to set this class aside.
Only class to ruin my 4.0 so far. Ms. Diaz is very passionate about her material but is an extremely strict grader, taking off points on the most random of things. Never in my life have I encountered a professor to be so nit picky.
I loved this class! Professor Diaz is super sweet and incredibly passionate about what she teachers and it shows in her teaching. Though she is a tough grader, if you ask she is normally willing to look over your work to give you feedback. If you are looking to learn, you should take this class!
She is extremely rude when you ask her questions and she always rushes through important things like she doesn't have enough time. This is probably because she always has guest speakers or has student presenters in class. She keeps you the whole time. DO NOT take her unless shes your last choice.
Professor Silvia is very helpful and very nice. Although there is a lot of work to do in this class, she makes it easy to understand and helps her students as much as she can. Loved her!! Great teacher.
Mrs. Diaz is fantastic. There is a lot of work, but it's done so students will learn the content. You can visit her during her office hours and she'll give you feedback on all assignments.
Professor Diaz was a wonderful professor. You get what you put in! This was not a hard class but it required you to do assignments as they are spelled out in the syllabus. She gave me all the help I asked for. This is not grade school and if you need help you need to ask for it and she is there if you do.
Loved Mrs. Diaz. One of the best instructors I've had at UCF. Willing to help if you ask, teach with passion, and is very clear on what she wants.
I had to take her class online for duel enrollment because of the pandemic. It was about 3-4 assignments a week, and I thought the workload was pretty manageable though there is a lot of writing. Zoom classes weren't required, and she was more than flexible to work with students. Turning in late work wasn't a problem, and she responds quick
