This teacher is a genius in art history. Usually only do work on last day of week. 3 assignments easy short and interesting. Teaches very valuable life lessons. must take
Gets off topic and doesn't get the work done in class. Takes about 25 to 30 minutes to start the 50 minute class and then complains about not having enough time.
Honestly if you're all about Art, go for it. But if you're taking this course because you need to, this teacher is super annoying. She spends the majority of the time babbling about her life and never gets anything done and then complains about not getting things done. Is super strict about phones and talking. She's an easy A but gets distracted
I love art. I really do. I am not majoring in art but I have a soft spot for it in my heart. This teacher made me hate my life for the time being in her class. She knows alot, she really does. But I've never been insulted more in her class then ever in my life. and she loves pushing her political and religion views onto other poeple.
i was excited at first but she was super disrespectful. she would argue with students in the middle of class and push her religious and political views on you. she was a tough grader for no reason and would just talk about her life for the full 50 minutes and then blame the students for not having enough teaching time. 10/10 wouldnt recommend!!
She is impossible to reach out of class and doesnt listen during class. She spends the class talking about her personal life like how her husband is an architect and that his clients dont appreciate his work. Ive seen her belittle students for not agreeing with her. She is a bully and should not work as a professor. I like art but she ruined it.
I am taking her now in the summer she is terrible! She is rude and talks bad about previous students that shes had. She is impossible to get in touch with and is always whining about everything. She argues with students over everything and treats students as if theyre in middle school not college. She degrades students for not knowing art history
She knows a lot but doesnt know how to teach. She attempts to get her point across by starting on one topic but ends up getting off topic and forgets what she is teaching. Then she stresses out when she is out of time. She makes students stay after class is over because she forgot to take attendance and doesnt care if they have other priorities
Worst teacher I have ever had. She is impossible to reach out of class. Whether it be email or office hours. She has zero consideration for the students yet expects for the students to take her into consideration. Lacks respect for students simply because she thinks she is superior to us because she is a teacher and we are students.
I've taken art classes throughout my school life from elementary through college and never in my life have I seen a more dysfunctional teacher than Prof. Silvia. It takes her about 3 50 minute classes across multiple days to answer some questions she put up as a bell ringer. If she isn't, she is more than likely talking about herself.
Shes a super easy A, only two papers and a sketchbook as your final. No tests. However, Shes really disorganized and goes off on tangents while teaching. Forgets to take attendance and then makes students stay afterward so she can take it. Shes just a mess. She wastes a lot of time talking about irrelevant things (the story of her life, mainly.
Had a family emergency and had to miss class a few times and she failed me. Also disrespected me in front of the whole class when I wasnt able to buy my art supplies on time. Spends WAY TOO much time talking about her personal life (her past in New York and husband). Makes students stay after class to take attendance.
Professor Espinosa is honestly one of my favorite professors this semester. she's a sweet, quirky professor with a genuine love for art which I found really refreshing. This is an EXTREMELY easy class to pass as the only thing you have to do is complete assignments in your sketchbook over the course of the semester and write 2 quick papers. SOEASY
SUPER EASY to pass, gives you 3 absences for the whole semester, all you have to do for this class is show up and draw in your sketchbook. There's no textbook required, only a few art supplies. literally all this professor asks is that you show up and do the few easy assignments that she asks of you and you can get an A. There's even extra credit
Prof. Silvia is not a bad teacher, but there were some things that made my experience with her unpleasant. Shes passionate about art and thats something that I loved until she started to go way off topic and pushed her political and SPECIALLY religious views to the class, which felt inappropriate. However, its an easy A if you need the credit.
Great teacher! You will learn lots. She is passionate and knowledgeable having lived in NYC and worked at the Guggenheim and the Museum of the Modern Art. Her talks on that added to my experience of the art world! Yes attendance matters, but she gives 4 days off for everyone. So its easy A if you do the 2 papers + sketchbook assignments.
Personally I loved her teaching methods due to how I am a visual and audible learner that hates to do paper work to learn the subject. She gives good information that even though I'm done with the class I walk around seeing art and architecture in a whole new light pointing out things that others would not notice. I highly recommend this professor.
I enjoyed this professor as a whole. She was a very educated individual and was clear about what she wanted. There were times that her passion towards art made us go into small tangents, distracting us from the task at hand. It was however in no way a reason to dislike the class or teacher. The tangents were welcomed.
I recommend this professor if you are willing to show up to class most of the semester. No homework and no tests just a couple of projects that are EASY A's.
Professor Espinosa was wonderful. Her lectures are a mix of discussions, documentaries, and powerpoints. Her assignments are simple and don't take any prior art skill. She is very knowledgeable and will answer any questions, even pertaining to history. I missed class 6 times and she was very considerate regarding my situation. Interesting subject.
I took her class fall of 2018. Its a great class to get an easy A, and the work is really not difficult as long as you some what try and don't procrastinate. No tests, just a sketchbook for a final that you work on throughout the semester. She is a nice lady, yeah she gets off topic at times, but it relates to the topic for the most part.
She is very passionate about the subject and that makes the students want to improve.
I took the class thinking I would learn something and would be able to further culture myself on art subjects, but I only learned how patient I actually am. The class is extremely frustrating. She gets off topic and never actually finishes a topic and when she teaches is like she didnt plan ahead at all.
On this class you will learn more about her life in new york than anything else about art. The classes were not related to any of the homeworks. You need to do like 20 or more different drawings and a 5 pages essay about 1 paiting.
Aspects like architectures of certain cultures are put into perspective by religions. Be aware of this when she talks about Christianity or polytheism. Know how to write a research paper and Turabian format. There are no tests, only a sketchbook graded at the end of the semester. You get 3 absences until she brings your grade down by a letter.
Took mini term and yes its true she runs off topic but for the most part its about details on the topic. Lol can be annoying but shes sweet and slightly cheesy and I enjoyed the class overall. We had no test just a research paper which she gives you questions to write it and you have to do a sketch book but she grades you for trying. EASY A.
VERY SMART PROFESSOR. KNOWS EVERYTHING ABOUT ART AND MORE! WELL INFORMED. INSPIRATIONAL. MAKES LECTURES FUN, HER ENERGY AND SPIRIT IS MOTIVATIONAL. MAKES THE CLASS INTERESTING . TEACH YOU EVERYTHING YOU NEED. INVITES YOU TO MUSEUMS TO LEARN AND GIVES YOU A TOUR. GREAT PERSON! SHE IS A MASTER ON WHAT SHE DOES! MASTER IN ART HISTORY DEFINITELY !
Would not recommend at all even if you are desperate. I learned more about her life throughout the semester than art. I can tell you her lifes story before anything else. Odd and irregular grading system. Grade is based on 3 things all of which are stupid. Will turn anything back to religion. Very opinionated. Cannot keep topic to save her life...
Professor Espinosa is probably a great person outside of school. She only lectures about herself and what she has done or experienced in her life traveling the world as an art major. She references Greek words a lot and gets it wrong, I'm Greek and i've tried to help. DONT! She get to class late and then expects you to be there all the time. SUCKS!
She is an amazing teacher, very understanding. Gives 4 days of free unexcused absences. Graded on super easy drawing assignments, questions and answers, and essay that is basically already written within the q&a. Everything is due at the end of semester so there is plenty of time to complete everything.
She is a great professor and really knows her stuff. One final paper and sketchbook due at the end of the semester. She's well informed and cares about her students and values education. Gives lots of life lessons and wants you to truly learn. Overall a good class.
The material is extremely Eurocentric and Christian. Her class allows for discussion except for when it disagrees with her, which is often as her views are "old school". She won't try to understand a different point of view, she will just cut it off. The class is cake, but will give you a narrow perspective of art. She's ok, but stuck in the past
I only have 350 characters,I'll keep it brief: -Grade composed of sketchbook & book report -Shell be uptight about you getting 3 books on a same topic -She !CANNOT! stay on topic nor mention politics/communism even if her life depended on it (we get it) -Shell never stop talking about how she's"old school"and our generation is miseducated/different
Her course is straight forward, do what she says and you'll get an A. She is just a heavy talker when it comes to art. She will go on and on about the history and blah blah blah... In class, you will run out of art time and will have to do it at home. In the end, you will have to give a big book report, it is okay just write a lot.
Professor Espinosa makes a sincere effort to educate her students about art, be it from the medieval times to the modern. No doubt, she is certainly knowledgeable. However, with the Professor attempting to balance participation, lectures, and homework assignments within a 50 min period, it can feel unstable. Would propose for her to focus on 1
She is a remarkable teacher. This class was interesting and not hard at all, if you followed the syllabus and did your assignments it was an easy A. I recommend to anyone who takes this class to just get the artwork done either ahead or on par with the lessons because you don't wanna do all that work in the end with other finals.
Professor Espinosa is a remarkable professor. She is very knowledgeable and goes above and beyond for her students. Course is an easy A if you're willing to put in the effort. She is passionate about teaching and it shows through her lectures. She teaches very valuable life lessons. I left this class with a new perspective on art and life.
Professor Espinosa gives great lectures she really does know what she is teaching, it's a very interesting class you learn about art throughout the decades. Do all your assigned assignments and you'll be sure to pass.
I did well in her class and participated a lot, but I can't lie when I say I hated this class. Her class only covers European art, and to further whittle it down, primarily focuses on Christian art. She allows discussion until it disagrees with her and idolization of Christian culture. It's important to learn but you can't put it on a pedestal.
I really enjoyed all the knowledge the professor has and made me see art and architecture in a new and more profound way. She is passionate about it and you can see it. I appreciate that! You can see she really cares. The class is easy, requires to do sketchbook assignments and a paper. No tests! I like that we do art and not just sit in class.
You can tell Prof. Espinosa cares about what she does and teaches, but taking her class felt like a task. She goes on a plethora of useless tangents and rants and we barely got time to actually do art or even get through the slides. She's also rants a lot about our generation it's annoying. Easy A (sketchbook, and a book report) Good Luck I guess
Prof. knows alot! She covers a wider range for Art Appreciation class: techiniques, methods, art world, painting, drawing, sculpture, architecture, art history. I loved the architecture most! Varied: Egyptian, Prehistoic, Greek Roman, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Modern. you will learn alot! I like sketchbook projects, great teacher! inspires!
Class is an Intro to art and architecture with a combination of lecture, slides, videos, hands on. Professor is very clear on topics. Great lectures, profound! She really makes the art works come alive and relevant. You can tell she loves teaching, knows a lot. Worked at MoMA and Guggenheim. Inspiring, now I want to study more art history :)
You will never be bored with this professor. Cool class! I like the sketchbook assignments. Easy and they are relaxing. I never thought I would like art as now or find an art history book interesting! It really engaged me. My first art history class. Like it! If you do the work it will be an easy A :) And nice teacher.
Awesome teacher! Art genius! I never thought I would want to study art history. I love her wide knowledge she brings into looking at art: historical, personal, philosophical, theological, methodological, psychological, sociological, political, ideological... shes deep. Im older so I appreciate more all this. Makes me want to travel! :)
Probably the best professor I ever had, shes really good, makes the class fun and she always smiling. You will learn a lot about art with this professor. Do your book review and sketchbook and you would pass the class . Shes awesome overall
Attendance is mandatory. Gives a lot of lectures, but overall a good teacher. Very passionate about art history. Interesting class. Just strict about attendance.
I am so grateful to the teacher Silvia and would take her class again with eyes closed. Not because the class is super easy because like everything, everything takes work, effort and dedication, if not that she makes everything less complicated. She is my professional and dynamic. She teaches her class with great love and patience!
I loved Professor Epinosa, she is very passionate about her work and the material she teaches. Although you must attend class everyday, you do most of the work she requires DURING class and that makes it A LOT easier. She is an amazing teacher, she does any amazing job at teaching the subject matter and does an even better job at making it fun!
Super funny! Stay on top of your assignments and youll pass.
All I can say is she lovesss to talk about hitler and go on random tangents when we only have 50 minutes in the class. She also likes to show he political point of view whenever she gets the chance.
She is the best Professor I have ever had. Very passionate and knows lots about art history. She makes art history fascinating. You write a book review and do sketchbook assignments. They are actually fun to do. I learned a lot. She is very nice too. The review below makes no sense! Must be from bad student. I think you will enjoy the class.
Prof is very nice and a great teacher. She really knows Art History. Impressive. This is my first Art History class. She makes the topics so interesting. I like her teaching style with slides, videos and askes us questions for discussions. No test. 2 assignments. I was surprised how much I liked Art History. You also get to do art! I like that.
Great Professor! She is nice. Easy class. Write one paper and a do sketchbook projects. She likes it if you participate in class discussion. The class was on zoom, but it went well. The Prof is very clear about all the work and art topics. Follow her blog and you will do fine. Its actually a very interesting class.
The best professor
Guys. This class was such a breeze. We only have 2 assignments. A book review and a sketch book. The book review is as it sounds. Buy and read a book and answer questions about it in essay format. The sketch book is a compilation of drawings that she has us do throughout the year. Both are easy. I didnt even finish the sketch book and got an A.
She is a very kind person who goes into detail about the topics. She gives understandable instructions about how and when the homework's are due as well as helping students when need be. If you do the work its an Easy A which is very helpful for the GPA. Its a good class if you make it one.
Save yourself the trouble, just find a different professor. Shes not understanding, i couldnt buy her book in time because of financial aide, and she did not care. She cares about art, but she expects you to care just as much as her.
The professor is wonderful! She is a great teacher. She knows a lot and passionate about art. You will definitely learn a lot about different kinds of art from different eras and civilizations. Its an easy class, only needs one paper and sketchbook. No tests. I appreciate that we actually do art! She is one of my favorite Professors.
She gives no lee way at all for anything. I joined class a week after it started which means I could not join the lectures and she knows that & still marked me absent for 2 days. Along with that, I provided her with 2 excuse notes for 2 days which I could not join class, still marked absent. She does not answer emails as well, only got 1 out of 5.
Save yourself the time and do not get this professor. You write more than draw & does not care if you have an excuse for an absence.
All of the people saying there's a lot of work are wrong. It is just a book report in which its questions mostly about your opinion and a sketchbook. There are weekly questions and an art piece, but she is just looking for completion and effort, and if you do it weekly you'll be fine. She's super passionate about art, so take her if you care.
Take her if you want to learn about various types of art styles. She introduces you to a lot of rare yet popular pieces and she explains them thoroughly. She definitely asks for your opinion on the art pieces and shows interesting videos and pictures. I definitely recommend her and she makes the class easy to pass, and she's pretty nice. Take her!!
Tgere is Not a lot of work to do! Only a book review and the Sketchbook Artwork. Take her if you want to learn about worldwide Art History...
Shes one of the greatest professors Ive had in MDC Kendall campus, I learned a lot and she makes the class interesting despite that it was online. Shes definitely passionate when she gives lecture, participation matters and dont let assignments accumulate. I loved loved this class, I didnt feel stressed at all, TAKE THIS CLASS
EASY!! only grades a book review and sketchbook. Plenty of time to complete them. need to buy art supplies. attendance matters!!! she gave me a grade lower for missing too many days. participation grades as well. but she's very passionate and helpful, interesting lectures even though i'm not into art.
I highly recommend her. She is very passionate in her work. She loves when students answers her questions. Its an easy class. Basically its just a book review paper and sketchbook art project. There are weekly questions and drawings, but she is looking for completion and effort. If you do it weekly, you should be fine. Dont procrastinate!
Probably the most frustrating people to ever listen to. I love to learn about art but she made the experience so awful. She constantly talks about how shes not vaccinated too. Pick any other professor and they will you have a better experience with them.
Do not take this professor, if you do not care about art and are just doing it for the credit. This is a very participation matter class, and she will call on you randomly. DO NOT TAKE ONLINE. Attendance really matters, you can fail by just not going to class several times.
She is a great professor, passionate and inspiring. You can learn a lot about many different kinds of art and architecture from Classical to modern. She knows her stuff. I like that she tries to get us engaged with questions. The class is fairly easy: One paper and weekly art protects in a sketchbook. I want to take more art history courses now.
Brilliant class. The Professor is very knowledgeable and makes the topics so interesting! She is my favorite. I like how she gets us talking about art by asking questions and not just lecturing. You get to do art in a sketchbook and learn a lot about different cultures. No exams. I recommend it. She is one of the best!
I loved this class! The professor is very passionate and knows much about art. I am looking forward to taking more art history classes now. The course is easy, you do art in a sketchbook, and one short paper. I learned much. I am very thankful for the professor's knowledge. She is the best professor I have ever had!
Great class! Art history genius! Inspiring!
Professor Silvia is a great and humanitarian person, not to mention an artist herself! Be prepared to complete your sketchbook with tons of questions and drawings, and to put your best effort into the Research Paper, because both of them will determine your grade for sure! However, if you do really enjoy art, this is your place!
This professor is wonderful! You will learn a lot! She covers all grounds from basics line, shapes, color to architecture and art history. Anyone who says otherwise must have been a bad student. She is inspiring and knows so much about art and architecture. A real gem! I really appreciate all I have learned! I also like that you get to do art! :)
Passionate professor, very knowledgeable and experienced, I learned very much in such a short time. Final work is heavy if you do not do a little bit every week.
Great class if you want to learn and DO art. Teacher is very passionate about art and teaches many forms. She's very knowledgeable. Grade is based on a research essay plus a sketchbook. Sketchbook has class questions and art assignments. It's easy but you cannot procrastinate! Prof. Espinosa is caring and wants you to pass, but you must put effort.
Professor was amazing. Left me wishing I could have her as a professor again. Clear grading criteria. Just have to do a simple research paper and a sketchbook that as long as you do a decent try will be an A. Teacher was very kind and knowledgeable on the subject. Overall great experience.
she was great! I took her on the summer course we would have to do an essay for the lowe museum easy A also, you will have a sketchbook assignment every time you see her. do all the work you will get an A! don't be lazy! she likes to talk a lot
Interested in art, take Professor S!!! The art knowledge you will acquire is priceless. Attendance and participation(only asks a few questions) is mandatory, but the professor is reasonably understanding. She cares that you learn and take something from her class. Very lenient grader as well with feedback. Wish I could take her class again & again!
I really enjoyed her classes! I will say, she talks A LOT, but it is very clear that she is extremely knowledgeable in art history, and she is super passionate about it. You will have 2 assignments. One sketchbook, in which you'll have to draw/paint, and a paper, based on either the Lowe Art Museum or a book. Easy A! Attendance is mandatory.
The professor knows her stuff! She is passionate about it. I appreciate learning about so many different types of art and architecture. Class is easy. No test. Just write one paper and do art work in a sketchbook. I think you will learn a lot, but you must attend class. I do appreciate art more. Great course!
This class is very clear and organized. The professor is very knowledgeable and passionate about art. She cares and wants her students to do well. The class covers many periods of art and architecture including modern but also Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans. I like that we do art. It is an interesting class. You will definitely learn much. I did!
Litterally conservative maniac, who talked about planned parenthood providers being satanist. Easy class would not take again its way to politically driven for an art class.
She is the best professor I have ever had! I actually learned a lot. She is a very knowledgeable and inspiring teacher. She makes Art History very interesting. Easy class. Just do the work. No tests.
Prof Espinosa was genuinely so simple & if you do your work & meet your deadlines you'll receive an A. If you miss less than four classes, option for extra credit. She does have a strong passion for history and art, it's very beneficial to the student if you truly want to learn about the history behind each art/architecture, very knowledgeable!
Great professor! All you need to do in this class are 3 important things (if taken online at least): pay attention and participate in class, do your homework diligently, and complete a book report which is fairly simple. No exams, no quizzes, and very insightful information with regards to art class.
Professor Espinosa doesn't care about her students when it comes to emergencies. She still marks us absent after the fact you have a family emergency. Sometimes she misses to take attendance and blames the students for not showing up after the fact she didn't take attendance that day when everyone was presented. DONT take this class
I love this professor! She is passionate about what she teaches and knows alot! I learned soooo much. I never thought I would actually like art history but she makes it interesting with art projects and her vast knowledge. I wish she taught other classes but it seems this is the only one. I took it online. It's not difficult, just do the sketchbook
She was my first college professor, and I had an amazing experience with her. Just be present in every class, do every assignment on the sketchbook properly, and do the final research paper. She taught the class how to properly cite, make footnotes, and do a bibliography. She was also always there to answer my questions after class. 10/10
You only receive two grades: a super easy paper (tedious but she gives you an outline and tells you everything she wants on it) and a sketchbook (weekly questions and a drawing assignment to go with them to be graded at the very end). Attendance is STRICT, you can only miss 2 classes and 5 tardies equate to one absence. No tests, quizzes, or exams.
Great class! The professor knows a lot about art and art history. She makes it very interesting. I like that we do art projects and have no test! I highly recommend the course. Easy A if you do all the art assignments.
Professor Espinosa isn't bad but I'd only recommend her to people who share a passion for art the way she does. I took her class during summer of 22 and it was a 3 hour lecture, she tends to talk about personal experiences and she goes off topic and rambles a bit. I suggest participating, taking notes, and doing the work as she assigns it.
do not take this class, 90% of the time she is just rambeling on her own life, this is an absurd easy class, if you are an internacional student and you know that each penny of your tuition costs sweet and tears dont waste your money on this class, she is a maniac and have really conservative thoughts about every thing, good luck with her.
This professor is my favorite! She is caring and passionate about art and teaching. You will learn a lot. I am no artist, but I like the art assignments in my sketchbook. She is obviously very knowledgeable. I appreciate that very much. I wish I took her class years ago before I traveled to Europe. I know so much more now! I recommend the course.
She's passionate and talks about a lot of information, but there's NO EXAMS so it's worth it! Total grade is based off of 3 essay papers (going to different museums) and your sketch book, where she goes over a different topic each week with homework along with it. The sketch book is not hard, just keep up with it. Easy A. Highly recommend.
Very extensive lectures that steer off-topic most of the time. There are only two assignments throughout the semester, and she was very lenient on how she graded them. Does go on rants about religion and other things a lot though but besides that pretty good professor
The class has been the most fascinating, amazing, and inspiring class I have taken. The professors energy is incredible. She has the power to transport you to other worlds and civilizations, as if you were there. Her knowledge of history and art is endless. She is full of tips, advice, and is very helpful. TAKE HER!
This is the worst professor. You wont pass this class unless you do everything PERFECT like she wants. Also if your sketch book is not done completely she will give you a D or F. Do not take!
Very unclear and branches off topic constantly. Will also mess up your grade depending on mood she is in.
This is a great professor. She really knows her stuff and how to teach. I didn't think I would like art history but this turned out to be the best class I have had at MDC. You actually learn something! And it is engaging! Going to museums too. Best.
Great teacher! Great class! I appreciate her enthusiasm and knowledge. Only wish I had taken this course earlier. You learn so much about art and architecture of Ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, Renaissance, Gothic, Aztecs...and do art. She is nice too.
Art genius! I would definitely take this professor again!
Awesome teacher! Awesome class!
One of the worst teachers I have taken. Goes off-track every lecture. Forces her own political and religious views unto students constantly (promotes her narrative of Christians being an oppressed group and atheists the root of all evil). Claimed that Darwinism had been DEBUNKED by scientists. Shouldn't be allowed to teach at a public school.
Though I took this class on line, it was the most engaging class I have had @MDC. I appreciate her knowledge, passion and way of teaching. I loved the art topics we covered, the sketchbook project and visiting museums. You will learn much + no tests
I love this professor! She is smart, nice, knows much about art, makes art history very interesting and inspiring! We look at art form all over the world. You are required to do a museum paper and sketchbook. Easy A. I highly recommend this course.
This class if very interesting. You will learn about the different types, techniques of art. You also learn about different periods of art history from ancient to modern. Like a journey in time! I appreciate her knowledge and passion and way of teaching by engaging us, not just lecturing and you do art in a sketchbook and visit museums. Thumbs up!
If you enjoy eurocentric, transphobic, pro-life, conspiracy talk go for it. I am religious...but she takes it to a different level where this class might as well be a religion course. You have to do a sketchbook of tedious work as if most in the class are artist or aspiring to be. She does not use canvas, and her powerpoints and website are a mess.
If you want to sped the entire class talking about God and how you should have a lot of kids for the good of humanity then take this class. She knows a lot about art but the only type of art that she taught us was christian art. She talks a lot about anything but art (sometimes even family stuff).
her class was super super easy. every class was pretty much just listening to her talk about random art pieces, maybe the occasional topic questions she'd make u write down. i would say that she does push really extreme Christian and conspiracy ideas on u tho, but in terms of the work it's kind of a joke how easy this class is.
Best professor I have ever had. Wish she taught other courses. You will learn much about art for sure.
Prof is very nice and knowledgeable. She's a great teacher! You will learn about painting, drawing, sculpture and architecture from many periods ancient to modern, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Latin American, Prehistoric, Renaissance. Gr
Get ready for a deep dive into art! I love this professor's knowledge and passion for art; it really rubs off! This class was wonderful! I loved the combination of slide lectures, videos, art assignments and visiting the museums. It was like a journey from Rome to Mexico, NY to Athens. A must for art lovers and those new to it like me. No tests! :)
- says that Scientists debunked Charles Darwin's Theories - Scientists now confirm we were created like how Genesis says... - Told us to go to the Lowe Art museum and do a paper on the artwork we liked... Two weeks later says it had to be from a specific period and sent an email that I didn't even get. Doesn't specify it on her syllabus.
- Ask her a question and she will always be right.. very one-sided and biased. - Doesn't help her students - Talks and talks... I can't even believe what she says now. - Treats us like elementary students.
I really enjoyed this class. I learned a lot even though it was on zoom, the professor still made it very engaging with a combination of talks, PPT and videos. I appreciate her knowledge and passion and going to the Lowe Art Museum. This was my first art museum. It opened a whole new world of art for me! It's a great course and a great teacher! :)
this was my first time with her, I liked her, and she respected me the work is easy if you take your time doing it. She is a great teacher :) I highly recommend her
Honestly syllabus was unorganized, dates and requirements change. Felt like this class based more on religion than art. Can get very boring and can be prejudice. 2/10
Art History genius! I think she is the best professor at MDC. I actually learned a lot. This course opened up a whole new world for me. Thank you professor! I appreciate your passion for art and sharing it!
If you are thinking of getting into an art class, don't get this professor unless you are homophobic and want to learn about religion. Her syllabus is very messy, the due dates are wrong, and she talks about things that are not even related to the class. She will not take you seriously when you talk. Also, she doesn't reply to any emails.
trust me, every good review you see here are written by her hahahhah her class was a joke... it is very easy but you have to hear her talk about christianity rather than art
She talks too much and gets off track too easiy. we'd be talking about Greek architecture and then somehow we end up talking about Christianity bla bla bla she sits and talks for hours and its so boring
I enjoyed the Art Appreciation class. I appreciate the professor's knowledge and passion for art. It's eye opening! She covers a wide range of art: modern, Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Aztec, Renaissance, Early Christian, medieval, paintings & drawing. Loved medieval monastery visit. Not hard, 1 museum paper & sketchbook art. You will appreciate art! :)
This is one of the best professors I have ever had! Those who says otherwise are just bad students, dumb and mean. She covers lots of Western art and yes it is Christian! So get over that! There's so much anti-Christian bias here. Medieval, Renaissance, Byzantine, Da Vinci... is Christian in general! If you want to learn a lot, this is the course.
This is one of the best courses I have taken. Prof is very nice. I like her teaching style. I was blown away by all the beautiful art and buildings from around the world! Also this was my first time at a museum & old monastery. I loved it! I liked the sketchbook projects too. Not hard, no test, but you have to do the work. Overall, a great class.
easy credit but this class is mentally draining and exhausting, she goes on tangents about the government, religion and politics, this had nothing to do with art appreciation except for the assignments we have at the beginning of class, she is not self aware at all.
Awesome class! Awesome professor!
Prof.Espinosa is my favorite. I love her passion and knowledge. The class is engaging, covering many types of art works, periods, techniques. You're required to do art in a sketchbook, visit 2 museums and a report. The class is fairly easy, but do show you care. You are expected to make a good effort. Overall it's a great class. You'll learn a lot.
To get a good grade in this class, you copy the questions and do the sketchbook assignments. To have FUN in this class, you make a bingo sheet of topics that she goes off on tangents about. Thinly veiled transphobia, anti-vax conspiracies... its hauntingly beautiful that someone who has seen so much culture can still tout right-wing talking points.
I love this professor! I am enjoying this class so much! I highly recommend her. She teaches passionately and makes things so interesting. I love art history now and look forward to other art history class taught by this professor. :)
Art History extravaganza! I have learned a lot. Thank you professor.
Great professor! Great course! Even though it was online, I found the professor very engaging and very interesting topics. You don't need textbook, but a sketchbook for the assignments. You're also required to visit a museum and write about it. This class opened up a new world of art for me and museums. I appreciate all this professor taught me. :)
spends more time talking about religion and Jesus rather than Art.
Professor Espinosa is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about art. The class is a fun, eye-opening journey through Western and global art. No tests, just engaging assignments like a museum paper and art sketchbook. I found Unstuck study super helpful for studying. Overall, a great class!
Her class is.. OK. I have to say that her syllabus is unorganized and she's an anti-tech person. Students will need to be attended in person to reduce the risk of getting dropped out. As well as asking her questions in person. Her class is fun at first but then she begins to talk about things that are not related to the topic.
Art history genius! I enjoyed the class. Learned a lot. Easy. Nice professor.
This is an amazing class with an amazing professor. You are in for a journey in time to Greece, Rome, Ancient Mexico, Spain, Italy, France, the Holy Land, seeing classical, Gothic, Baroque, Ancient Egyptian art and architecture. I wish I took this course earlier before my trip to Europe. Best professor at MDC!
Really passionate about her work, you can see the excitement of teaching. Very good teacher caring and not a hard teacher.
DO NOT take if you are not an art major. the teacher is very hard to reach as she also works at fiu. her syllabus is messy and unclear. she grades based on 3 assinments which makes it impossible for you to bring up your grade. grades will not be put in till the very end. she is not flexible, has attitude and does not care about any circumstance.
At first, everything was okay. But as we progressed through the class, it got way worse. She would talk about things that had nothing to do with the class, had an attitude, and is overall not a great person who has no sympathy towards their students. Her syllabus and ppt slides were disorganized, and was very hard to reach out outside of class.
do not take this teacher. this class is boring and draining. in the beginning its easy and its all good but by the end you literally have to be davinci because the drawing get progressively harder. she talks all period. grades you off 3 assignments: sketchbook=60%, essays=30% and participation/attendance=10% of your grade. don't expect sympathy.
I don't recommend this class if you don't know how to draw 3-D objects, linear perspective, scenarios, and topics above beginner's level. If you have artistic qualities, you will found this class very interesting. She puts a lot of passion in her lectures. She is very exigent, but also just. It is not an easy A or class for every student.
Great class. I really admire the professor's passion for art.
This was the only class I enjoyed going to. It was fun and I learned so much. Get ready for an art dive!
This professor is one of the best at MDC. She is passionate, knowledgably, a great teacher and kind. She expects you to do the work, like all good professors. She covers art from all over the world and time. The course if well organized, clear with a blog you can follow. Students who complain are dumb and lazy. This was my favorite course at MDC!
Professor Espinosa is a gifted teacher. Very inspiring. I'm glad I took this class. I learned much about different types of art and techniques, ancient and modern. I'm surprised I liked it so much. Enjoyed the projects. No tests. Recommended! :)
If you love drawing, art history or simply looking at churches of Europe then this class is for you! I really enjoyed her teaching style it made me be more motivated to learn and the homework was also fun to do as it consisted drawings and questions, just make sure to do them on time and well. She's also a sweet person I enjoyed having her a lot.
Awesome professor and class! Amazing lectures, kind and very interesting how she teaches it.
I love this professor. She is so knowledgeable, and teaches art with passion. I never thought I would like art history, but she really makes it so interesting. You learn about art and architecture from many places and times like Greek and Roman, Egyptian, Modern, Middle Age, Latin America. I appreciate her wisdom and gifts. Thank you Prof!
Professor Espinosa spent more time talking about conspiracy theories and Catholicism than the subject she was meant to teach. She openly claimed that she is anti lgbtq and came off as very ignorant. I've never written a review for a professor before, but I felt it was necessary for this class. I guarantee she writes all her 5 star reviews.
I really enjoyed this class. It is a combination of lecture, slides and keeping a sketchbook for art projects. I learned a lot and I appreciate the teacher's passion for art. I recommend this course if you like doing art and learning about art from around the world and periods like Greece, Rome, Egyptian, Prehistoric, Gothic and modern.
Very respected. Great professor! Art History expert!
Great professor! First professor I can actually say I connect with.
I took this class online. It's very interesting covering all kinds of art from modern to ancient, from different countries, materials, and artists. I've learned a lot and appreciate professor's knowledge and enthusiasm. You write a museum paper and keep a sketchbook. Not hard, but you must care todo the work. Grade is primarily on the sketchbook.
Im taking two classes with her at FIU. Italian Renaissance and Art Survey 2. Her classes started alright, to the point. However, she began rants against LGBT, science and socialists at the end of the semester, which is not appreciated. Respect your student body please. Also the class is not political, so please keep it to yourself.
A great art historian and very passionate about her craft, making the content of the class enjoyable despite the amount of information given. Work is mainly a journal, one paper, and 2 tests. However, she often trails off during lecture about politics and conspiracy when it doesn't relate to the course material.
DO NOT TAKE THIS MF CLASS!!! All she does is talk about conspiracy theories and tries to push catholicism on her students. Extremely heavy workload and tough grader considering this class is only 3 credits and is an elective. She's passionate about her craft but that doesn't give her an excuse to be unnecessarily difficult. BEWARE!
She rambles on about her politics in a class about Art. And she is also a conspiracy theorist. You don't learn a lot from her class. Seriously wouldn't recommend.
Awesome teacher! Awesome class! I love this professor! I got an A! Hooray!
This class opened me up to art of which I knew little about, like the Aztecs, Greeks, Romans, Gothic, and Egyptian. The prof is very nice, knowledgeable and passionate about the material but does expect you to care too. It's easy, no tests. You keep a sketchbook of art assignments and write one paper. I really enjoyed the class and museum visit!
I worked hard on my sketchbook, did every topic and earned a low grade. While another class mate did barely nothing and got a better grade than I did. Very biased! Don't recommend. Plus she gets out of topic.
Her class would be okay, she has a lot of credibility as she's been teaching art and is an artist herself. Has worked with very famous people and has a good art education. However, lectures get interrupted by politics 90% of the time. She spends 30 minutes on her political beliefs nearly every day. I counted and timed it. Generally rude to everyone
She is the best professor I have ever had. Great teacher, very knowledgeable. You can tell she loves art and her passion inspires. It's a journey thru time in art! This class was wonderful! I loved it!
She talks the entire 4 hours. Most of the time she trails off topic. She talks more about religion than about the art. You do need to have your camera on the entire time or she marks you absent. I would only recommend this class if you need to get it done with because she doesn't give many assignment.
I enjoyed the class tremendously and learned a lot. Prof. Espinosa is a great teacher. I love her enthusiasm and vast knowledge. She explains things so well. The class consists of keeping an Art History Journal and writing a paper from the Lowe Art Museum which I loved. We also went to the Ancient Spanish Monastery. It was an amazing experience!
definitely a certain degree of rude, however lightly cooperative if offered heavy respect. Little room for error, stumbling, or missing a single class.
If you walked into a psych ward and asked for the craziest patient, they would be less politically and religiously charged than this professor. A tinfoil hat person is more grounded in reality than this google map chemical trails in the sky conspiracy theorist. I could have a more reasonable talk with an actual alien in its native language then her
Great professor! Very nice and knowledgeable. Makes art history very interesting. I wish I took her class before I went to Europe then I would have appreciated better the art and architecture. I took it online and was still very engaging. You will learn a lot if you make the effort. I definitely recommend the class. :)
Her grading was upfront and clear. Mrs. Espinosa is so passionate, she does talk the whole class but I think a lot of people that complained about her lectures dragging rely on professors that enable their laziness. I had her online and we were only given one major assignment and maybe two or three minor ones. TAKE HER!
Professor Espinosa is a rarity. She TRULY cares and is very into what she's teaching. Yes, students who are just trying to pass through take it for granted, but those of us wise beyond our years appreciate her passion and energy she delivers every class ! A dying breed. Her homework and class work are simple and on topic. God bless her !!
She frequently went off topic during lectures & began discussing political events in an art appreciation class. She once went on a tangent, saying Charlie Kirk is the new Jesus while saying everyone who isn't a republican is evil. After that, she went on a tangent about transphobia. Awful lectures, easy assignments.
She goes off topic a lot, the homework is tough for anyone new to art, and she sometimes goes over class time limit by 4 mins. I have a class right after and she keeps lecturing with no signs of stopping so literally until someone gets up and walks out, we have to stay sitting. Imagine having 6 mins to go to the other side of campus for class.
Great professor! I would definitely take another class by her. You will definitely learn much about art!
Definetly a crazy lady, always gets political and/or religious in her lectures. She indeed did go on a rant about Charlie Kirk and how he was like Jesus.. and how he is an amazing influence for the new generation. Work is very easy though, sketchbook questions and drawings for each chapter and one paper on a art piece from Lowe Art Museum.
This is an awesome course. The professor is so knowledgeable and inspiring. You will be taken on a journey thru time to France, Italy, Spain, Egypt, Greece, Mexico and more. I recommend this course if you want to learn about art, its meaning, techniques, and value to many cultures of the past. She makes art history interesting. Highly recommended.
She's a great professor but she goes off topic way too much, often speaking about religion or politics in an Art Appreciation class. At one point she went on a rant about Charlie Kirk and spoke of him as if he was some god. I really wished she stayed on topic with the course, it definitely would've been more enjoyable.
she know what she's talking ab but she gets off topic easily, she goes back on her words & confuses students, she changed the due date to a week later after i worked hard to meet the original due date, after i asked her 5x to make sure she truly meant that we needed to turn it in dec 4. waste of my time i had other things to study for.
This class is great! The professor opened my eyes to my love of architecture history and sketching. She is an incredible teacher and I think of of her teachings often. I hope she never stops teaching. I hope to one day be as smart as her. Thank you Professor so much for your time and teachings.
I'm not an art major, but I must say this is the best course I have taken at MDC. The professor actually teaches and is inspiring. I wish I had taken this course a few years ago before I traveled. She is very thorough in her topics: color, drawing, painting, classical architecture, Gothic, Aztec, Egyptian, Greek and Roman. Gifted teacher for sure.
She is a great teacher; she loves to teach and has extensive knowledge of the subject matter. Her classes are very easy to understand, and what I liked most about the class is that you feel like you're actually learning and not wasting your time. I am very grateful for her dedication to her students, and I recommend her 100%.
100% worst teacher I've ever had. If you value you're time, don't bother. Talks about art history, not course material; I took art history and she got stuff wrong. Speaks with heavy Christian bias: insensitive/offensive to other religions. Rants all class, gets off topic, goes over time, hates on science for not "having facts"? Easily rage baited:)
Full class on the first day, by the third day 2/3 had left; they had the right idea. This teacher may or may not be an alien pretending to be a human? She talks like everything is a conspiracy theory, bangs on the table (loudly) and yells "do you understand" at least 20 times per class. Calls attendance during full volume videos. Makes no sense....
