My goodness, she is by far the meanest, worst professor I have had this year... She is totally unclear, downright rude, extremely irritable... TERRIBLE PROF.

I suppose she is very intelligent, as her research has earned much attention, but she is terrible as a professor. She's extremely rude, unclear, and she does not respond well to questions. Furthermore, there are no tutorials in Physics 028/029, so we're on our own. Terrible course.

Only reason to attend lectures is to get her to clarify her slides, which are very poorly made. She also doesn't go beyond the slides whatsoever so there's no real reason to attend lectures. Thick accent too (which is hilarious) which prevents understanding. Teach yourself the content in its entirety from the book, you'll do fine & waste less time

Literally useless. Even the examples she's solved in her notes have spelling mistakes and even INCORRECT solutions. Be prepared to read the textbook to pass her class. Also, during class is a great time to check Facebook because you learn nothing.

Quizzes were fairly easy, but she is useless as a prof. Midterm's are very challenging compared to the work you are "assigned" Does not assign homework. Practice midterms and exams are basically useless.

I have found her absolutely useless. I came to university with a love for Physics. She killed it. Her course slides are incorrect, she over-complicates the material, and she does not even attempt to explain content for first year students. The exams are absurd compared to her examples. Huge disappointment.

Makes easy concepts very complicated. Midterm much more difficult than practice midterms, midterm question don't really make sense.

First year engineering professors were terrible, but Mittler was one of the worst. She does not explain any of the concepts at all. The majority of the concepts were taught in high school physics, so hopefully you remember from that. Went out of her way to NOT give homework questions. Hard exams and had many complaints, especially about wording.

Lovely lady. But the class? It's as if I copied and pasted the entire textbook into a message to Siri, and I told her to read all of it back to me.

Speeds through material, keeps adding new units not on the syllabus, hard to understand.

Started off in a 700 lecture hall, ended up halfway with 15 people max. There is nothing else to say because I never went to lectures - neither did anyone else.

Extremely rude replies to emails (if she even replies at all), not helpful with questions we have about the course or the content. Her lecture slides has typos, grammar errors, and wrong calculations. The worst teacher I've ever had.

God awful teacher who hsa tests on material that has not been learned. Gave an impossible question ( i do NOT mean hard, i mean an IMPOSSIBLE question, physically impossible to get the right answer). Marks you wrong for things like estimates (which cannot be wrong in almost all circumstances). This teacher has no mercy and IS OUT TO GET YOU

Not a good professor. If high school physics is still fresh in your mind, you'll do well. If not, read the textbook. Lectures are terrible -- just read the textbook. If you have a problem, God in heaven, do NOT email her. Very rude, quizzes generally are harder than homework, and overall, avoid if AT ALL possible taking a class with Mittler.

loves to put insane questions on the final. Final average is probably going to be around 25%. She still has not responded to my email from the second week in the semester, and is not effective

Professor is awful. Barely teaches anything with the course being online. Basically just tells you to read the textbook and does BARE MINIMUM lectures. The lectures are brutally boring too! The midterm was a cake walk and because class average was so high the final was on stuff we basically didn't learn at all. Easily the worst class I've taken!

You're better off reading the book or watching Youtube videos to actually understand the content. Doesn't usually answer emails or is extremely rude when she does. Class was very easy up to the final where she decided to give us a 4-hour exam with questions way beyond the scope of the curriculum. People are aiming for 20%, that's how bad it was.

Worst taught course I've ever experienced. She weighs dynamic study modules and annotations, which are literally a free 100% if you do them, as 30% of the course grade. Because of this, the class average is super high, so she drops a final that literally nobody knows how to do to the point where studying is a waste of time.

Teaches practically nothing, and expects too much out of students. Refuses to respond to student emails, and cannot spell exam questions properly. Will force her patriotic facts onto you in her lectures. Would rate 0 if I could.

Absolutely terrible teacher. Do not even bother to email her she will either not respond or be super rude. All lectures are straight textbook and slides. Grammar is horrid and uses words that have no need to be there that throws you off (What even is a carafe). Finals was a nightmare, will not help no matter how much you study.

Mittler was the worst Prof I have ever had the pleasure of taking. She assigned absurd amounts of meaningless work and the final exam was next to impossible. Mittler did not offer any help on questions and only recorded lectures. We never saw her live, not once.

Doesn't care about her students. Average on our midterm was high so she intentionally made the final unpassable, linear, and proctored and now many people are on the verge of failing and will be unable to take physics 1402. How this professor is still allowed to teach is beyond me.

NOT A GOOD prof you can have. Tarnished my love for physics with her terrible teaching methods. I can't even calculate velocity anymore because of her godawful teaching.

This nut has no respect for her position. Her teaching style was "go do it yourself", which would've been acceptable if she ever answered her email. She made annotating the textbook worth 30% for some reason and to compensate made the final genuinely impossible. Did not prepare us for either. 10/10 would fire her as a total disgrace to the school.

If I could give her the same rating I got on my final I would, but this doesnt let me go into the negatives. We were told not to contact her at all and she was professional when you did email her. Quizzes and final exams did not reflect the content. Lectures were uninformative, slides were riddled with mistakes, assignments were useless.

I don't understand why someone who obviously has no care or respect for students would become a prof. I could have spent 0 hours studying for the final and received the same failing mark that I most likely got with a week of studying - that's how unfair it was. Horrible lectures. Lack of support. Unfriendly. She ruined my favourite subject for me.

She does not care for her students. The final was nearly impossible. I wasted 2 weeks studying for it, wouldve been better off not studying at all and wouldve received the same grade.

AVOID IF POSSIBLE. Dont know how people like this become professors. This class alone has made me hate my university experience.

Just drop the course if you get her. Enduring a semester with this "teacher" is not worth putting your mental health at risk.

She made the exam impossible to make sure everyones average dropped 20%. She doesnt care to actually assess the knowledge of the students. I could have done the exam doing eenie meenie minie moe on every question and would probably get a similar mark. Its beyond me how she makes 160K a year when she cant even spell the word gravel.

This professor has to be one of the worst I have ever received education from, like can you imagine actually being willing to learn from her???? Too many lectures, didn't really make the concepts clear enough, and assigned way too much homework to complete; NOT worth your over $10k worth of tuition money. Pray that you don't ever get her.

I learned more about physics from Kanye West's presidential campaign speech than listening to Silvia. Her final was really tough, the class average was 47.7%. Is that we didn't understand the content? Nah, it's because she gave us that was wayyyyyyyy harder than anything we had been assigned prior. Please Alan, fire her. Save future eng students.

Physics 1401, looked like fun, a quiz a week, I wanna shriek, (ahh) I'm so done, workin a ton, midterm came around, brought that thing down, thought I had the grit, now I wanna quit, final exam complete, no way to cheat, questions didn't make sense, gibberish she dispense, will never repeat, time to beat my meat!!

So much work every week, including lectures, annotations, Dynamic Study Modules, and weekly quiz. She gave us so many ways to get good grades and then complained when the grades were high. Getting her in first year is definitely a humongous bruh moment and you should prepare for the worst. Good luck to everyone who has her. Sincerely, first years.

Lectures have calculation errors, lots of irrelevant info which results in confusion, releases four new lectures 1 week before the exam. Has the worlds easiest mid-term, then proceeds to put out a poorly worded and extremely hard final. Refuses to cooperate with students, and gives inconsistent info regarding issues such as calculators for final.

Horrible Lectures. Never responds to email, or gets mad when she does. Doesn't care about students. Made final exam nearly un-passable based solely on knowledge. Overall worst experience in any class ever. This is the type of prof your highschool teachers warn you about. If you have her, u might as well differ your offer or switch out of her class.

Could write a novel on this teachers poor communication and lack of empathy. Awful teaching style, doesn't relate concepts well, doesn't teach everything she tests on. I used to understand(and like) physics, now I just know formulas. Fluids was half of the final and the fluid lectures weren't released until the final week. Newton would be disgusted

Realistically, I learned everything from the textbook and organic chem tutor. Never watched any of her lectures. The course had a lot of free marks and she got mad that the class average was too high. She then decides to create the hardest exams with emphasis on lessons she put out 3 days before the exams, the toughest exam i've written by far

Horrible prof and is not understanding of her students whatsoever. Refuses to reply to emails from students and posts announcements regarding how she will ignore all student contact. Very unorganized and gives students unfair evaluations on subjects in which they have yet to cover in the course. Makes taking a difficult course even harder.

Testing is unfair, over half the class failed the final exam by a large margin. The only thing that will save you is doing the 50+ hours of work that she assigns a week. Her lessons are also focused on teaching you german and less physics.

The most horrendous teacher I have encountered. Gives 60 hours of work per week + 5000 assignments. Thought the class average was too high after the midterm, so made 2/3 of the final based on three hour lectures that were released 4 days prior. Refuses to answer emails or questions. I learned more about German history than I did about physics.

Silvia Mittler is something special. She knows nothing about her own course, what is marked or unmarked, when or who are in tutorials, or even the content of her own slides. It's like watching a senile person try to teach physics, it's painful to be in the lectures. You can't ask any questions because she won't have the answers to them.

Doesnt care for students. Has no awareness of what is going on in her own course. Speeds through lectures, and does not care for students learnings. Makes people feel bad for asking questions and advises them to go to help centre with tutoring hours that collide with every single students schedule.

Was doing very well up until the midterm because most of it was prior knowledge but made the final impossibly hard and also covers everything she taught, which was done very poorly. Least favorite prof I've ever had. Is not accessible to you outside of the lectures, which are useless in the first place. Had to teach myself the whole year and the final is disproportionally hard compared to everything else so have a high mark going into it.

DONT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HER. YOU WILL FAIL.

Every lecture is literally just her reading off slides, she had no office hours and made it very clear she would not answer questions or emails outside of class (often not even in class).

I felt like I learned more about Germany than I did about physics. You are better off skipping class and learning on your own.

Not engaging with her students and makes concepts more difficult than they should be. Difficult to reach her during office hours. Pointless even coming to her lectures.

Inspirational: I am (hopefully) going to graduate this year and I would like to leave a final remark for her: good riddance lmao

Lectures were horribly paced so even the students who attended lectures had no clue what content the midterm would be on. One of the first lectures in the program that had attendance of about 300 to about 30 if lucky.
