He's there whenever you need help. & is easy to get along with since he's young. Don't have to go to class all the time but most classes are very important to attend. Professor Sim is the best teacher. He is so funny. I do not want to be in school, but I liked coming to his class. The first part of the semester was about grammar, then the second part was about writing essays. It was fun and we learned a lot of good things.

The class material was hard to grasp at first, but Sim is really clear with what he wants from us, it made it manageable. He is funny, caring, and demands a lot from us. I liked that we were able to see each other's projects. Best teacher I have had in college.

So Sim is a great teacher and really taught me a lot throughout the course. He's very different from the typical 205 courses. My only complaint is he grades the paper by how much it interested him personally instead of an academic stand point. Papers and projects that were extremely poor were awarded with high grades.

Sim is the the best teacher I've ever had. The classes were extremely interesting, and I was never bored. I am a way better writer now because he is so helpful. I highly, highly, highly recommend taking him.

I spoke to him after class and office hours a bunch. He doesn't try to show it in class, but he is such a brilliant person. I love that about him. This is very relaxed and moves at a good pace, you won't be left behind. The only way to mess up this class, is by skipping too much or not doing anything. A challenging class that I willingly put time and effort into because his assignments are so relevant in life aside from being academic. I was scared of the reading circles at first, but I ended up loving them. He is great teacher who loves what he is doing. His class is about life. I will take him again.

Sim is great! TAKE THIS CLASS. He loves teaching and relates the real world to his class which I really enjoyed. The reading circles are intimidating at first but they help you improve your writing and public speaking immensely. He doesn't assign long boring essays, all the projects are interesting, short, and usually require a creative flare.

Sim is funny and caring. We had this guy in our class who didn't do any work and bragged about it. By the end of the semester Sim changed his life around. It was cool to see how he bonds with us like that. He talks about real life stuff so classes are fun.

Sim teaches from the heart and soul. He is a blend of old school and new school where words matter and are taken seriously, yet he offers lighthearted help and feedback. His class means something. We helped each other, and we bonded. It was the best class I have taken in college, and I will miss him and the other students.

Loved his 101 class and took his 205 the next semester. His teaching style is very different from other teachers, and that's what makes this class special. Tight-knit group of students who grow a bond throughout the semester while also helping each other become better writers. That is what you want in an English class. You won't regret taking him!

Honestly, Sim was one of the most memorable teachers I've had. I took him about two years ago but he was so amazing in the aspect that he can relate to students so well and his style of teaching is more modern and easier to understand. You will not regret taking him one bit. He is so interesting and funny. Plus, holy crap he's so hot!!!!

Sim is super easy going, doesn't require attendance. He really cares about improving your writing. There are only about 3 required essays all under 1000 words long. Definitely recommend this class

Sim has been one of the only teachers to listen to me and talk about my life. I am grateful he took the time to listen. He has been the only adult I have opened up to about my life. He is so positive.

You should see how Sim handles lazy students. It's crazy to watch. He is compassionate and caring, and he loves his job. By no means is he soft. In fact, he is the opposite. He is real and honest and raw. So is the class. The emotional impact will be lifelong for me, and I know that is how he gets all of us to buy in. The class changed my life.

I took the Education 100 class which is tutoring training from Sim. He is just a rock solid person and teacher. He's inspirational, knowledgeable, and caring. He throws everything back at you and gets dirty and in the weeds. He has been the best teacher I have ever had.

Dr. Barhoum's ENG101 was not what I was expecting. I felt the reading and writings centered on personal growth. Several fun assignments. I took an 8 week online course and work was daily Mon-Fri with weekend off if you didn't have to make up work. Sim let's you resubmit work. He's also a director of the tutoring program at Mesa. Stand-up guy.10/10

Sim's class was a joy to be a part of. He cares about all of us. I developed a bond with so many students in the class and feel part of a larger community. We medicated in class and worked on assignments in class. He helps us out and does a great job of making sure we do our best work. I highly, highly recommend him. He is a master teacher.

This is by far the best professor in Mesa college. I took his online class so I was expecting it to be really difficult. Instead, it was really easy. Theres only 3 small essays (less than 1,000 words), watch/ read documentaries and articles, and have group discussions you just want to pass a class without much effort take him.

I took his online English 205 class and it was the best class I've ever taken. I can't say the class was hard because I enjoyed it and wanted to do the work. The content really made me think about the world and how to make it better. Take him!

I am a C student in English. I hate writing. But somehow I liked this class and got an A. He allows unlimited revisions and we worked for it. 'We' because Sim and I sat down countless times and we revised my essays to get better grades. Also, I've learned lessons I'll take with me forever. Loved the class and Sim. Professor Barhoum is a real gem. I was one of his students in an Online English 101 intersession course and honestly i loved it. The way he teaches is easy to follow and he actually makes the course interesting unlike other English professors. Overall he was a great professor.

Sim has created a very straight forward 8 week course for English 101. It's not your typical Eng 101. It will challenge you not only in your writing but in your life overall. He is super helpful, gives a clear expectation of the coursework, with plenty of opportunity to improve your grade by revising your projects. I highly recommend this prof!!

Professor makes English 101 fun (yes) , the course is very interactive and the assignments are fun. There is a reasonable amount of work but everything is interesting , I recommend you stay on top of the work and you post in the discussions and you should be good

Sim is a super cool surfer, yoga dad! The videos you watch and pieces you read have you really think but inspire you to be creative rather than stick to a bunch of literary rules. You do have to respond to your classmates posts, but it's super helpful for improvement! Just stay ahead on work and you won't get overwhelmed!

Took this class online. Super easy. Daily discussions that aren't too bad. Read other's post to get inspiration on what to write. Discussions are graded by completion. No tests. 3 papers that are only 400-600 words. The course focuses on personal growth, therefore, it is not how well you can write, but how you can improve. Allows revision.

Great teacher and class. Professor Sim helps us with mindfulness and life problems. I learned how to write better, but I also learned how to become a better person. It's the best class I've taken in college.

I am just wrapping up the Spring session( April-May session) and I can't say enough good things about Sim. The first two weeks of the course went a little fast but, it really made the last few weeks smoother as he said it would. I enjoyed his feedback and his love for being an instructor. I would recommend to all to take his class.

I'll never forget the day I emailed Sim letting him know I couldn't make it because my sitter called in sick. He said to bring my son in. Not only did my son come to class, but Sim included him in the class activities. It was one of the most incredible experiences of my life, and my son now wants to go to college too. Sim's online course was awesome! Even though it was online, the way that he has it setup really makes you connect with your classmates. The class is centered around mindfulness & emotional situations. Analyze & write about topics: speeches, songs, movies. I had Sim for English 205 in the spring of 2019. He is super caring , kind. unlike other professor, he wont give you heavy essay but you have to ready with your story and emotions in his class. there are only 2 projects for this class and each project is around 900 words. He like students be creative for the essay.

Dr. Barhoum is an exceptional teacher. He forces students to think deeply about many issues gripping our country and allows you to express your thoughts and to develop a more caring and loving mind set. Expect 3 projects, meditation and riveting discussions and he even lets you revise your assignments for a better grade. 10/10 would recommend.

This is literally the best English course I've ever taken, the Professor is super laid back and awesome to talk to. He has a great grading system that gets you the grade you want and he is always willing to help. In this class, we had a lot of homework every day based on watching videos and we had three projects. The only critique that I have is that this professor does not give much feedback about the essay structure, such as MLA format. I learned more in English 101 on how to write a good essay.

Professor Barhoum is the best Professor I have ever had. I took ENG 205 online with him and I learned a lot from this class. Lets you do the work ahead of time and you can revise as many time as you want. The HW is mostly fun discussion boards.

Prof. Barhoum is a great professor who loves his job and his students. I took his online course and he is very creative in choosing what topics to write about and what projects to complete, they're actually enjoyable. He is extremely organized and grades in a timely manner. He gives great feedback and created a sense of community between peers.

Professor B is organized, efficient, and an excellent communicator. Took this class online during the pandemic. I was able to stay focused and engaged with the relevant course material he provided. It is a class to enhance "critical thinking" and as you engage you will see development or ascension in your thought process. Excellent Instructor!

Amazing Professor! I took his 4 week course, and I loved every bit of it. There are 3 small projects and discussions every day, but it is totally doable. You'll leave this class truly inspired.

If you put your thoughts and really engage into the discussion you can get a A. The three projects for Eng 205 is a life learning and really tackles on issues that are in the past and that could be in future or present. I would totally recommend taking Professor Sims, Class in either 16-weeks, 8-weeks or even 4-weeks. He is really understanding.

Professor Sim is one of the most kind and caring men I have ever met. I moved back to Taiwan for Covid because being away from family was too much and he was able to help me not drop or fail and just renewed my faith in myself and people. We got on Zoom together 4-5 times a week and worked on my assignments and talked about life. Best teacher.

I have attended San Diego Mesa College on and off since 1988 and have had many professors, by far Dr. Barhoum has been the BEST professor ever! I had the pleasure of taking his English 101 class and recently completed English 205 and I highly recommend his classes!! He has inspired me to continue my education. I took this class during intersession and at first I was intimidated to take a "dense class" in 4 weeks. I'm glad I went ahead - this class was amazing! Great content and a lot of creative freedom. He offers you the last few days of class to "re-write anything for the grade you want". He is available same day for drop in zoom appointments.

Professor Sim was an incredible teacher. He really encourages you to try harder and is extremely understanding of his students. He always wants his students to try their best and also gives us the opportunity to make up any assignments that we feel we didn't do that well on. Extremely creative, Highly recommend him!

I took his online course over the summer and it was an amazing experience. He's super involved with the class despite it being a fully online course. I learned so much and it was a great opportunity to work on my critical thinking and further my writing skills. Weekly discussion boards, 2 essays, and 1 creative project. You'll love it!

Honestly, I really enjoyed his class, he teaches with passion, which makes it so engaging. The class wasn't difficult at all. On the contrary, it was easy to keep up and I personally gained a lot from it. This was an excellent class taught by an excellent professor!

This is the most amazing Professor I had so far. He is so caring and always willing to help. His main focus is to teach us how to be better version of ourselves rather than making our life harder with complicated assignments. Hiss class is all about spreading love and kindness and be prepared for a lot of discussions with your classmates.

Most work is made up of discussion boards + responses. Easy to get extra credit if you put in enough discussion effort. Whole class revolved around social justice + making the world a better place. Super interactive with the discussion board, responds to some like he's also taking the class. Nice guy, gives cool feedback on assignments.

Professor Sim is a v chill dude, best English teacher I've ever had. He knows a lot and his stories were always interesting. There is homework due every day, but if you stay on top of it, it's really easy. One thing, if you can, attend all the lectures. He really likes getting to know his students and his classroom is a 100% judgement free zone.

Sim is a very kind person that was very thorough about giving feedback on assignments. If you miss a point here and there you can do some extra credit to gain the points back and then move forward with the feedback. If you keep an open mind, you will love this class. His topics challenge you to think hard about yourself and the community.

He creates important conversations regarding racism. Gives great feedback on all of the assignments & discussions & the opportunity to make up for missing points. I'm glad I took this class.

Professor Barhoum was truly amazing when I took his class. He is caring and considerate. With it being an 8 week online course, he did not make it feel overwhelming at all. He gave ample opportunity for extra credit and was truly inspirational and wants to make a difference in the world, which he is!

Professor Barhoum is an amazing teacher. He is passionate about what he does and never fail to show the enthusiasm for the work his students do with immense encouragement. I took an 8 weeks class and yes the class can get a little intense but the topics were interesting and the goal was really trying to make you into a better human being!

Fantastic English teacher. I retook this course on my first year back to school and his course was entirely different from the way my first teacher taught English 101. He doesn't use any books or textbooks from the library and his course and assignments are very thought out and have a deeper meaning and goal in mind. I wish he taught more classes.

Best teacher at Mesa in my opinion. I took his 205 course the second half of the semester directly after taking his 101 class the first half. Sim really cares about his students and supports everyone in the class equally and truly wants everyone to succeed. As long as you do the homework the day it's assigned there's no way you don't get over %100.

Took Prof. Sim's english205 course immediately after finishing his 101. Instead of reading multiple different boring books, he had us learn about harsh societal topics such as, racism, white privilege, etc. Assignments are pretty easy and don't have harsh due dates. Very very cool & engaging class, 100% recommend.

Pretty easy course, not too much reading or writing assignments. Assignments don't have harsh due dates, so it makes it easy to fall behind, but as long as you stay on top of the work you'll be fine. Prof. Sim is truly an inspiration and is so understanding, you can tell he wants the best for his students.

I took his accelerated course (almost finished with over 100% in the class), and it was a breeze. He is a kind grader and is really encouraging. Even my classmates that are not native english speakers are being graded based on their personal skill, not some arbitrary grading system. Amazing and really kind professor.

He is so great, literally just take his class right now. I only had him for 3 hours every week but every lecture was amazing. There is homework everyday and a lot of discussion board stuff because it was mostly online but they weren't bad at all. He grades really fairly and if he things you put in a lot of work he will give extra points.

Balanced workload with a small portion of an assignment due every weekday at 10 p.m., but they can all be done quickly. Readings assigned are relatively short, grades easy, can resubmit at any time for a better grade, gives clear requirements for each assignment, gives extra credit if you do well, overall not stressful at all and is kind.

amazing professor! his course was very insightful and i loved all the readings and information presented to us. he cares a lot about his students and truly wishes for us to succeed. as long as you keep up with the work, this course is definitely one of the best + fun classes to take at mesa, even with it being fully online.

Love Professor Barhoum. You learn a lot from him. He's so positive and inspirational with his work. You learn a lot from him. The assignments were fun and they make you think about the economy we face today. I highly recommend him. You will not be disappointed!

This professor was very kind and clearly articulated what he wants from students. I felt like I learned a lot in his course, and was able to go more into depth about real world issues. The course is pretty easy to follow as long as you make sure to keep up with your assignments.

You have a homework assignment everyday but they can be done quickly and you can turn them in late for full credit at anytime The issues discussed in class were relevant and the whole course is designed around making real world change. Prof Sim is so inspiring and offers a ton of extra credit. No reason to end up with anything less than an A.

Sim is an amazing professor! This is my very first year at Mesa College and he was the first class that I had and let me tell you, the moment I stepped into it, I already knew that this semester was going to be thrilling. His class is packed with a lot of good stuff and it's relevant not only to the world but also helps find who you are as a person

TAKE HIM. Had him for online 8wk course. One of the easiest classes. Honors project was just an essay and in the end it went in as extra credit. Also has 2 extra credit assignments. Very easy grader and ended with over a 100 percent in the class.

Fun fact I took his English 101 during 1st 8 weeks of Spring and he suggested I join 205 for the rest and I got an A twice. This is your sign to take him. His life lessons and outlook on life is also so inspirational.

I love Professor Sim. He is so sweet and inspirational. He wants his students to succeed. He allows you to resubmit any assignment for a better grade which is a great way to learn. We learned about world issues as well as life lessons. Assignments are broad which allows you to take the time to think. Take him, you won't regret it.

I am not the type of student to attend my in person classes however even though attendance was optional I still went out of my way to attend every single class of Sim's. He truly loves his job and cares about what he teaches. He implements so many vital life lessons I truly believe everyone should take his class. He is the best.

Prof. Sim is super caring, kind, relatable, & funny. I took ENGL101 & ENGL205 in the same semester & there are easy discussion boards that connect to three projects. Projects were fair & stress free, not the typical English class as our essays never had strict guidelines. Very inspirational. What he taught us really stuck! TAKE HIS CLASS!!!

By far one of the best professors I've ever had. Professor Sim wants you to do well and get a good grade in his class. You can work ahead in his ENG 205 online class and have a chance to make up for late assignments--but don't procrastinate because that feels bad. The videos and articles we had to read for the discussions were very interesting too!

Assignments are fun to do and I actually learned something. Definitely a lot of writing but nothing horrible. Gives great feedback and provides a light environment even with the online course. Will be taking classes from this professor again!

One of the best teachers I've had so far, he's extremely respectful, welcoming and accommodating to everyone. I will definitely take him next semester as the assignments he releases are really entertaining + the lectures are also entertaining. If you plan on taking him be prepared to write a lot.

I cannot recommend this class enough. As a student athlete, I struggle to find time to do my work but Prof. Sim is so accommodating and the work is not only manageable, but very thought provoking. I never thought I'd post a rating, usually I just read all of them, but he really deserves it. I'm so glad I took this class!

Super easy and chill professor, I took him online and every homework assignment was posted from day 1. I took the 8 week course and it was a little time consuming but it was super manageable. I would usually have a free week because I would do the assignments ahead of time, totally worth putting a couple hours aside. take him!!!

I took the 8-Week course. Great professor that genuinely cares about his students. Lot of work, but it's easy work. At times difficulty jumps but nothing that isn't manageable if you look ahead at the week laid out. It can also be a creative class which is great! Made me want to care about school. Can't recommend him enough.
