A fun teacher, and a fast paced class. He is fair and a good teacher and marker. He doesn't show favortism and appreciates your participation in class. I recommend his class.

Great teacher. Fun and interesting. Is totally fair when marking, but could be easier, but i am not complaining. You will do well on essays if you go to all your classes and put some effort into them. You get what you deserve. Class average of C+ or so.

He gives a lot of homework, but it pays off essay-wise. A real genuine guy.

He started off good but went downhill the farther we got into the class, quizzes are stupid inane questions like what the main character's dog's name is, and whoever his marker is marks like it's Harvard.

I am not doing well in his class, however I've got a B. He is a very easy going teacher, during the class you will have nothing much to do.

He is OK. The only thing he sometimes pick on students who haven't done their homework. Beside this his teaching is an average instructer. Little bit moody.

Excellent instructor! Keeps class involved, and cracks jokes from time to time. Smart guy who knows his stuff, and can teach it without putting the class to sleep; fair marker too.

this cmns class was boring in the first place, he's boring and just reads straight from the paper. he just sits there. sometimes he's late and then critisizes students who are late. i don't highly recommend him.

He is a really funny teacher and loves to crack jokes throughout the class but the topics for his essays and exams are super boring. I found myself counting words in my essay just to meet the minimum requirement. He also doesn't stop people from chattering in class. otherwise a great teacher :)

He is an excellent teacher! He teaches clearly and concisely, and furthermore, he marks clearly and fairly. When he marks his students work, he lets them know on their work why he took off marks if he did. If you want an 'A', take him!

Simon is the best teacher I have ever met.He gives you fair commons and marks that realy make sense to you.

By far the best/most fair marker I've ever encountered. He will go out of his way to make sure everyone in the class understands the course material, but only if u ask him to. Few reall like studying the romantics but he finds a way to make it more bearable.

He is a very gd prsn, and a very gd tchr. However, he expects a lot from u(this means if you're taking 4 crs..beware of the workload)..Some1 below noted that the topics for essays were horrible. I agree. The topics make essay writing feel like you're in Amazing Race with no: cellphone/compass/fuel in your car. PS-for incls essys-writethembeforehand

Approachable, helpful, and, clear, helped, me, with, my, poor, use, of, commas, thank, you,Simon! English intimidates me but this class was a good experience and I am positive that it will help boost my marks on future assignments. Use the writing center&start assignments as soon as they are assigned, do the homework&study. No problems!

Simon clearly knows his subject but lacks the necessary qualities for conveying his knowledge thoughtfully. His style of teaching focuses a lot on the technical aspects of writing whereas English is treated like a math problem that needs to be solved step by step.He inspired me to love literature and prose then crashed my dreams by brutal marking.

Simon is a very nice man who is very proficient at teaching the basics, especially to ESL students. That being said, there was little thoughtful discussion, no exploration of theory, and a somewhat formulaic approach to teaching. Great reading list, sadly very little inspiration to stretch our minds and expand our thinking. Linear.

Like I mean where does he get off? If he checks my command of English, he'd know it was my writing. I SUCK at English.

Does his best to trudge through the AWFUL material of the course. It is boring, but not his fault. You get what is expected from a first year basic English class. Basic essay writing and grammar. Nice guy though, he even tried to remember our names!

Great teacher! It's pretty simple- follow the instructions and ask questions. That's about all you have to do to get a decent mark in his class. He's not an easy marker, but he's also not an unfair marker. I liked him a lot. He does the best he can with the freedom that's afforded to him. Hint- he LOVES James Joyce.

Simon is an extremely laid back and personable teacher. He is pretty straight forward with what he expects on tests/quizzes, and he likes a well-written, and focussed essay. The novels/plays we read were interesting and enjoyable, and he always encourages people to speak their opinions.

He's a pretty clear, straight-forward instructor. I felt like I learned a lot in his class; it was a great transition from high school. Yes, he's pretty strict but again, he's really clear about what he wants and I think he marks fairly. If you listen to what he says, you'll do fine.

Simon is a great teacher. He delivers information in a clear and straight forward manner. You know exactly what you're expected of and as long you work hard the material really isn't hard. He cares a lot about class participation, that just means you will get marks for efforts. I strongly recommend him if you actually want to learn things.

Simon is a great teacher, super funny and easy going and very understanding. He respects and appreciates class participation and encourages students to share their thoughts and ideas. Overall, I had him for both eng1127 and cmns1115 and both courses were great!

AMAZING! Simon is one of the amazing and experienced teachers at Langara College. He is informative and has grounded knowledge of the course. He always motivates students to actively participate in class. Simon doesn't care about attendance but makes sure to notify him before the beginning of class if you are not coming to class.

He is a hard marker and very strict with grammar. He gives a good feedback on the stuff he marks. There are many inclass quizzes and the quizzes are pretty easy. Overall, a good instructor but if you are an international student, i would probably not recommend him.

Tough grader. Good teacher. He tells you exactly what you need to know. No surprises.

Dr. Simon Casey is knowledgeable in the art of academic writing. Though he can be a bit slow in his lectures, he provides clear instructions and good feedback on how to succeed. However, I think some students may struggle with this class if English is not their first language, as some of his readings may be difficult to comprehend.

Only main downside was that we weren't allowed to use technology (laptop, iPad) during class. However, I actually was able to learn more because I wasn't distracted by going on my phone. You had to show up prepared to class because sometimes we would do practice questions and he would call on every student. Overall my writing got better.

Great Professor who is old-fashioned in his approach. He really does care about the students (even if it is not immediately clear that he does) and was willing to help until the end. Good feedback about the positives and negatives of our writing. Quizzes are clear and fair, he makes it very clear what we need to read for them.

Cool professor, easy grader, but participation matters as the course is all about communication. Great professor.

He is the best teacher I've had at Langara College. He is really kind and always has a smile on his face. He explains things clearly and makes learning easy. He is fair with grades and always encourages us to do our best. I feel lucky to be in his class.

I took a 3 hour weekly class with Simon. He is clear on the requirements to do well on quizzes, midterm, and final. The full lecture notes are only available in class.
