Professor Doubleday is very educated in Medieval history. If you are not, BEWARE!! He is a nice guy, but expects people to know and unrealistic amount of history. If you enjoy history then I would reccomend taking classes with him as they will be enjoyab
is nice and understanding if your late or have a problem with an assignment. just dont make this a habit. also make sure you know what your talking about in your papers. hes extremely intelligent (and he knows it) so its hard to bullsh*t him.
Doubleday is an incredibly brilliant and politically voiced teacher which can be good if you can keep up with him, which most of the time proves very frustrating. But he presents many unique ideas and you gotta love the British accent
Doubleday is a great professor, although his British arrogance sometimes shines through a little bright. He's a pretty easy grader, encourages you to think, and loves to answer any questions you might have.
you will get a good grade as long as you try in his class
Great teacher..makes classes very interesting. He is very understanding of us as students(..and knows when you're bsing!) Is also very clear and helps to keep us focused on what's relevant. He is also really funny in his quirky, British, Medieval way :)
He is the greatest professor i have ever had hands down, I've taken him twice hi is so hopefull and intelligent.
Boring course but he made it ok. He's got this scarcastic wit that I love in teachers. He comands respect but he deserves it. Dont come into class late & exausted.
Most interesting professor ever, Harvard PhD and Cambridge graduate. This Brit doesn't care much about graded assignements, gives fair overall grade at the end. Nice man and very fun class.
Nicest man ever, very witty. He's extremely intelligent but a fair grader. Makes class fun and interesting. If you really wanna learn something about history then take one of his classes.
doubleday is an excellent professor and is very smart. he's sexy as hell and has a fantastic, british personality. take his class if you can, you won't be bored
While he may have a Phd from a top university, he is one of the most annoying and boring professors i've had.
I took many classes with Prof. Doubleday. He is brilliant, witty, helpful, interesting and a kind person. He proved a fantastic advisor who helped me get into an Ivy League graduate school. If you like History, definitely take his class(es); if you dont, try him out anyway.
Doubleday is interesting because he is so brilliant when he speaks about topics covered. Extremely interested in his students doing well. You will definatly love his classes.
Professor Doubleday knows what he is talking about during lectures. You definatly need to do the reading for class. no tests, just papers.. TAKE DOUBLEDAY. the class is demanding, but you learn so much!!!
hes real good at wat he does. way too intellectual so i was completely lost at times. his questions are tricky so watch out! always read the assignments THOUROUGHLY cause he will ask questions and they are those curve ball questions but overall hes there to help at all times and is awesome overall
get out of this class.. hard to keep up with.. so much reading.. and if you're not obsessed with Spain like he is you will be so bored and lost.
One of the most difficult professors I've ever had at Hofstra, but a really cool guy who knows a lot about the subject. The assignments and readings are tough, but he'll help you out if you ask. Great sense of humor as well. Take his class, but be prepared to actually think.
doubleday sucks. he is unclear about everything. he doesnt realize it but that if the paper is not his way then u get a c. his grading policy sucks, really sucks. i wrote an maybe the best paper i haver had written and i got a c just cause its no the way he wanted it. STAY AWAY very unclear & unfair

hes hard. not clear with the subject. only wants students 2 listen 2 his views & argues that he is always right. too many readings. i brought 2 books over 40 dollars & used them twice. his classes are a waste of ur tuition money.his british accent maybe intimidating but hes not as smart as he thinks
He is brilliant, his class is extremly hard but he is willing to help you as much as he can. If i was intresded in the subject matter i would of faired well in his class. If you are into Spanish history worth taking his class. But is def a brilliant mind.
you people are crazy...he is adorbale. just show up and be involved in class discussions. he isnt hard, and has the greatest since of humor!
Great guy, offers extra credit up the behind, wants you to pass his class, aslong as you pay attention and do some of the readings and pretend to know what you are talking about in class you should be fine
Rediculously arrogant, and if you don't agree with him, he doesn't want to hear it. Reading is NECESSARY to pass, and the books are extremely boring. He grades very harshly, and is unclear with his explanations on your papers. He's a writer, and expects you to be writer quality, too. If you're not, you fail. Save yourself the trouble and get out.
Arrogant sometimes....seems to bash America sometimes...he is a writer and expects top quality prose in the papers...pay attention in class and read and show effort and he'll do you well but very hard grader ...also very knowledgeable though. Nver lets you out early and has an english accent and nice behind
His class seems like alot of work at first. He does "require" reading. Although if you are sufficiently full of****, you will do just fine. There is alot of class discussion and if he doesnt hear from you he will call on you. The secret is answer questions you can early, even if they are random current events related stuff. Then he wont bother you
AWESOME GUY. Smart as hell
Great and interesting professor. Will challenge your conventional views on history. My favorite teacher yet.. and Im a junior.
Really smart guy, he knows a lot. He will challenge conventional views on history but the books are very boring and they're all books published in Britain! If you don't read u can't pass. The midterm was very hard and papers are killer to write because you must say only "interesting" things...

Doubelday has a very difficult personality, and does not structure his classes very well. All students should beware...but especially incoming freshman.
Hard, but fair. Makes himself available and is willing to help if necessary. Nice guy. Would recommend prior knowledge of topic chosen for Seminar.
Professor Doubleday is a very smart man with immense knowlege of his subject material. Very fair grading policy and workload, only two papers and a couple quizzes. If you do your work and speak up in class, you will do well while also learning fascinating material.
Very intellectually stimulating class. His method of teaching makes you feel rewarded at the end for all of the hard work you have put into the class. Would highly recommend to anyone!
Simon Double-Day is, by far, the worst professor Hofstra could have every hired. He is impatient, unclear, rude, self-obsessed, and unsympathetic. He expects students to rise to his challenges, but makes the path to "sucess" unclear and confusing and is unwilling to help you through. I wouldn't trust this man with-in an inch of my life.
Doubleday is the man, i have him for Ren. Europe and he makes an hour and forty minute class go by faster than some of my 50 min classes. I'm a freshman and he's a hell of a guy, Take doubleday!
He takes a little getting used to, but once you realize that his biting English wit is all in good fun, you grow to love him. A fine teacher and an extremely intelligent man. He tends to bloviate sometimes but otherwise I have no complaints.
Professor Doubleday's classes are extremely challenging. He expects so much out of his students (so make sure you read and can analyze the readings thoroughly). Only 2 papers, but one was quite large (10-12 pages), slightly difficult, and time consuming. Be cautious.
Doubleday's a great professor, and a really awesome guy. Participate in class, know exactly what you are talking about when he calls on you (which he loves to do), and he will greatly reward you.
The way a professor should be. Not an easy A, but when you get out of his class, you'll actually know something. He has a sarcastic tone, but it is just his british humor. Cool guy, but misunderstood by many students. Know the reading and you'll be fine. A true gentleman
An AWESOME professor. Really knows his stuff and expects you to as well, but also enjoys having open debates in class to put people up against each other. Very fair grader and will help you with anything you might need. One of the better professors I have had so far for sure.
he is sooo cute...and an AWESOME professor. he's so smart and the class is really interesting. I highly recommend.
everything was about Spain or related to it, it drove me nuts, if you like Spain, are from there, or like everything about it, take it his class you will get an A, i know because i didn't.
Excellent teacher! Quite eloquent( perhaps even moreso with his trademark British accent and wit) and prepares all his students with a very analytical approach to the current issues of the day and how they relate to those established during the age of the Renaissance. He is, without a doubt, one of the best teachers I have ever had the honor of bei
I was never the best history student, and as much as Professor Doubleday intimidated me at first, he's one of the few professors that was willing to help his students in any way he could. The class was not necessarily easy, but he provides a modest workload and assignments were mostly opinions on Blackboard. It was my toughest class, but I learned.
Good professor. If you give some thoughtful comments in class and some on blackboard, you'll do fine. Really nice guy, and the work is not a burden at all.
Doubleday is by far the best professor at Hofstra. he is one of the only professors who push you and want to see his students succeed..he doesnt babysit you and its not an easy A, but his methods of teaching pretty much force you to do well. if you dont take him, your an idiot
Doubleday is one of my favorite professors. You can't be shy in his class! If you do the reading, participate in class, and post on blackboard it's easy to do well.
Doubleday is an excellent professor, but be prepared to work...HARD. A LOT of reading, but he discusses each section and is definitely willing to help with the assignment. Just do the readings, post on blackboard, participate in class, and you'll do fine.
Very helpful professor. Class can be a little dry, but he tries to keep everyone involved. Challenging class, but if you participate in blackboard and in class, you'll do fine
I was never the best history student, and as much as he intimidated me at first, he's one of the few professors that was willing to help his students in any way he could. The class was not necessarily easy, but he provides a modest workload and assignments were mostly opinions on Blackboard. It was my toughest class, but I learned.
best professor to be found anywhere. absolutely brilliant, and cares a great deal about his students; he wants to see you succeed. i still think about his class, it basically changed the way i think, i wish i could take it again. he's wonderful, and wow that british charm (love it!) take his class, you'll probably love it.
Professor Doubleday is absolutely brilliant and knows everything about his subject. I took him for the Renaissance course back when I was an undergrad (a few years ago). This is the type of class where you really need to do the work to get a good grade. He will always help you when you need it!
Prof. Doubleday's a good teacher who makes class relatively interesting for a subject usually so boring. He's funny and he's very flexible with paper assignments and class attendance. As long as you do the work and pipe in on occasion it's an easy A.
Professor Doubleday is one of the nicest professors ever. His discussions are very interesting and he big on student opinions. Also he has a British accent, so that should be more than enough reason to have him.
Doesn't really teach about what he is supposed to be teaching about, so his discussions and questions are incomprehensible. Class was very boring and seemed to last 5 hours (it was really only 1 hour). Very hard to understand. Thank goodness his midterm and final were open book/open notes!
An absolutely amazing professor who works hard to prompt intelligent class discussions. He goes out of his way to make sure that you're doing alright outside of the class, and allows for extensions when you need them.
Professor Doubleday is one of the NICEST professors at Hofstra. He let us re-edit our papers to get a better grade and even allows creative alternatives for papers. If it weren't for his class being at the same time as another, I would DEFINITELY take him again. YOU WILL NOT REGRET TAKING HIM!
Doubleday is a great guy, very understanding when it comes to deadlines. He is very interested in his area, and it keeps the class entertaining. I am not at all a history fan but I was still able to do well in his class. Take him if you can!
TAKE HIS C&E SECTION. You will not regret it. Compared to the the other C&E professors, he is one of the best, possibly the best. He is great at roping everyone in for class discussions, so just know that he may call on you even when you're hand isn't raised. Assigns two major papers, and the first one is rewrite-able, also gives some extra credit
I would definitely recommend taking him. He's absolutely brilliant (which can make answering his questions hard) but is a fair grader. I got an A- which was honestly fair for the amount of effort I put in. He is very kind, caring, and easy to talk to. I would love to take him again.
He is a spectacular professor. He's pretty lenient, very interesting, funny, and helpful. He's understanding about late work and lets you rewrite one paper. I adored him and plan to take him again for another course.
AMAZING professor, very lenient and compassionate, take him!
Professor Doubleday was always interested in what his students have to say, so be somewhat prepared to talk in class. For the most part easy A, as long as you insert some opinions and do at least one of the readings. He has some cheesy British humor but all and all his class was pretty enjoyable. One of the better C&E professors
Professor Doubleday is the most awesome professor in the Liberal Arts. He is extremely smart, his teaching style is inspiring and extremely clear. He cares a great deal about his students. He doesn't just present the material, he makes you think about what it really means and why it is important. Take him for any class you can!
Dr. Doubleday is the best professor at Hofstra. If you are serious about your education, take him at all costs.
Dr. Doubleday is simply just awesome. Probably the best professor at Hofstra. He cares about his students and will make every student feel involved in the class discussion. His teaching style is very clear and you will leave the class as a changed person
Doubleday is an excellent professor. He truly shows interest in not only his subject, but also his students. He is extremely helpful if anyone has questions. Not to mention, he offers rewrites on 2/3 essays that are due. His class offers not only information about history, but how it can transcend to modern life. Would totally recommend!
I'm a history major and Doubleday is an amazing professor. He allows you to correct your papers, and towards the end of the semester let me know where my grade was. Taking him again, some people think he's hard, but that's because they aren't used to taking history courses and the workload.
Professor Doubleday is outstanding. He truly has a love for everything he teaches and clearly loves to teach. He is very clear on assignments and feedback. However, be ready to read for his class. Throughout the semester you will have many reading assignments, but nothing too crazy. Very caring, understanding and gives rewrites.
Doubleday is the best professor. He stimulates discussion, and will listen and respond to your ideas without being rude or shutting you down. His classes are always interesting, and he is truly passionate about his subject. Doubleday is funny and kind, and is extremely helpful. I would 100% recommend him.
I love having Doubleday as a C&E professor!!! He is a great teacher and a great guy in general. I might wind up picking up a history minor just because I want to take his classes!
Doubleday is an adorable British man, he is very well educated on the subject matter and is passionate. He really wants his students to learn and take something away from his class. With that being said, he expects a lot out of his students and forces class participation. Take his class! It helped me become a more critical thinker
Doubleday appeared to have a very clear-cut syllabus ready for us all. When he saw that C&E became progressively more draining, he modified the criteria, eliminating our last long paper. He cares about his students, wants us to do well, and wants us to enjoy thinking outside the box.
Professor Doubleday was my favorite professor at Hofstra! He is super understanding about assignments, he even cancelled our final paper. He really pushes students to succeed and his seminar was incredible! Highly recommend, you won't regret it!!
Professor Doubleday is a very intelligent man who shows that he cares a great deal about his students. He is extremely helpful (providing ideas for his papers during class) and makes the classroom a very easy-going environment. However, participation matters and his teaching style can make it difficult to participate regularly.
Professor Doubleday is the best teacher I've had thus far. He makes dry material fun and understandable while encouraging meaning discussion among students. He incorporated elements into the lectures that made the material relatable. He is absolutely brilliant and truly cares about his students. He makes me want to switch my major to history!
Doubleday is a great professor. I have never met someone who loved medieval history more than he does! If I had to take CE all over again I would take his class. His class includes papers, midterm and a final. But there are different options for the midterm and final. CE is a pain, but Doubleday makes the lecture worth it.
Doubleday is an awesome Professor. He is so caring and nice, and he really wants you to learn. There is a lot of reading, and he calls on people randomly during class so make sure you pay attention to the lecture and the reading. Essays werent difficult. During COVID he took one essay off the syllabus and was extremely accessible and caring to us.
Literally the best and sweetest prof. ever. He genuinely cares about the students and wants the best for them. Nice grader and even nicer person
Dr. Doubleday is a great prof but expects you to be knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. He KNOWS HIS STUFF. If you bring something to him, he will help you out. Kind of silly but his voice makes it so easy to listen in class/lectures. He is good but should not be underestimated because he wants effort. This class is super easy though.
Dr. Doubleday is probably the best professor I had at Hofstra. He's pretty funny and he genuinely cares about his students. He gives great feedback and is beyond helpful, you just have to be ready to be called on randomly. I wish I wasn't graduating, otherwise I'd take him again. He's genuinely an amazing professor.
Professor Doubleday rlly cares abt his students and is willing to help, if you reach out. His class has a lot of writing, but he always gives more than enough time to do the assignments. Professor Doubleday is also very understanding if you request an extension. He's also calm, funny and approachable. I loved his class and wld def take it again.
He is a great guy, but if you are going to take history 011 be prepared to write 2 5 page essays and do a hefty amount of reading. If you're fine with that by all means take him. You'll learn a wealth about medieval history. But if you are just looking for an easy class for credits then I recommend you find something different.
Professor Doubleday is such a kind, funny person. I loved all conversations we had during discussion. I highly recommend attending office hours for feedback/help on lectures; he's great when it comes to that!! He's also very lenient with extensions if you need one for any reason.
Professor Doubleday is a kind, understanding, and yet serious professor. He takes the edge off of the scary phrases such as essays and projects. His class is exciting and he is very lenient on the grading as well. He helps you in any way he can as long as you contact him, and I recommend choosing him for your courses if you have the oppurtunity.
I learned so much. He taught me to think outside of the box and recognize other perspectives.
For C&E, he's great at facilitating discussion. He's also very flexible with assignments. Very knowledgeable in his topics & was easy to contact when I needed help with an assignment. We had 5 2-pagers (due by end of semester), a midterm (take-home SAQs, debate, or presentation), and final take-home paper. Lots of readings for C&E specifically.
The first professor I loved at Hofstra. His specialty is Medieval Spain which was odd for our C&E class, but I loved it. His accent was a great addition too. The class was very chill and he loved interacting with us.
Professor Doubleday is a very entertaining and intelligent professor. His knowledge on history is impeccable. For the midterm and final you have the choice to take a written exam or write a paper. Not a harsh grader. This course will be very easy for you if you like history. He does encourage participation a lot and theres one group presentation.
Professor Doubleday is so kind and has a pretty decent sense of humour. Yes there is a LOT of reading, but he is generally pretty understanding if you could not complete it for the class. Very little writing, and the only tests we had were the midterm & final which were pretty easy.
