The best prof in department of psychology. He is super humble (he wanted us to call him by his first name, Simon). He is a funny person and keeps his lectures very entertaining. Proudly recomend him to anyone interested in neuroscience and psychology

Greatest psychology prof Ive ever had at this school. He's a genuinely nice guy and loves to just sit down and chat about the material whenever. His tests were more than fair. I'd recommend him to anyone looking to take this class.

Nice and hilarious fellow. The first two midterms were really easy and the last one was really difficult. Only a couple textbook questions were on the exams; still I'd recommend buying it.

OK, watch out for the written section on the exams, try to write them word for word from notes/text, or you will be marked down.

He's so funny and uses a lot of real world material in his lectures. Sometimes my quizzes were marked a little on the hard side but he doesn't mark them himself. The textbook is necessary to achieve 100% in the course as not everything is mentioned in lecture.

Quizzes were very challenging, but tests were pretty easy if you're good at memorizing. He was a phenomenal lecturer and it ended up being my favorite class of the semester. He's very funny and interesting and the topics are super interesting.

An excellent class to take. Simon is very funny. The two midterms were easy, (multiple choice). The final requires more memorizing as there is a written component, (isn't cumulative though). The quizzes are challenging, with very tiny details discussed in class being stressed. The textbook is a must as there are specific details not in the notes.

I took psychology 204 with Dr. Spanswick, it was he first time this class was being taught and he did an exceptional job, you wouldn't have any ideathat he was new at teaching this class. His power points were posted in an efficient manner and were very detailed. I highly recommend not only taking this class but him as professor.

He talks and goes through slides quite fast but is willing to answer questions for a whole class if necessary. His tests can get quite specific for small details but are fair. He is a very fair marker and let's you know what he expects of you, as well as gives you hints of what will be tested. Small paper in this class, marked by TAs. Tests are very reasonable. He's an amazing prof that breaks down all of the content into straightforward and understandable concepts. His lectures are all really interesting and he doesn't just read straight from the slides/textbook, making it really beneficial to come to class. The quizzes can be tricky as they're very conceptual and open but at least they're open book.

Definitely one of my favorite profs! Make sure to attend every class; he quizzes some stuff from the lectures not from the textbook and his slides are pretty basic. There was a written assignment this semester; just follow the rubric and you'll be fine. You'll definitely walk away learning something from his classes and laugh along the way w/ him.

Such a funny prof--I always looked forward to going to his lectures. Really thorough lectures that were all posted online. Reading the textbook helps you but isn't absolutely necessary. PSYCH 204 was a blast.

Dr. Spanswick is an awesome professor that tells some of the best jokes! His section of the course is pretty reasonable because it is straight memorization rather than more vague concepts like Dr. Boyce's section. However, you will have to read the textbook because he pulls random questions from there, but overall this was an awesome class :)

I would highly recommend Dr. Spanswick, he's a tough nut o the get go, but his quizzes were all open book and we went over them in the class after. The papers were marked super fair and weren't hard at all. His exams were manageable IF you read the textbook. THIS IS SUPER IMPORTANT. Also ,make sure to ask questions, it makes class easier!

Spanswick is one of the best profs I have had and PSYC 375 was the coolest class I've taken. Highly recommend, especially if you are a science student. Tests, quizzes, and paper are all very fair. Textbook is required, but I just skimmed the important sections. If you are looking for a class that's interesting and not too difficult, take this one!

Simon is one cool guy. I was scared taking my first psych class but he made it so much fun and enjoyable. He is very passionate about what he is teaching and you can tell that he cares about how you are doing. Don't be afraid to visit him in office hours, he is very willing to help you out if you need it. 10/10 would take a class with him again

Dr. Spanswick is sooo attractive, extremely intelligent and wow oh wow would I take this class again. He posts the full notes online, make sure you read the textbook because he likes to take random bits out of there for questions on the tests. He needs to turn up his mic but that is my only complaint. Can't wait to take another course with him!

Simon is a really fun, down to earth prof, my only complaint would be his tests, which have some tough questions compared to the class content of an option course. He doesn't explain how to write papers at all either which resulted in a low class average on the papers. All in all, with some improvements I would take a class with him again!

Great professor, cares about students and makes lectures interesting. If you skip class you will have difficulties on the quizzes, as the answers can be something that was just briefly mentioned and may not be on the slides. Interesting course, will have to work for your grade if you're not good at memorizing but still worth it.

Simon is the best prof I have had my whole degree! His class isn't necessarily easy, but it can be if you go to lecture and read the textbook. He has a lot of methods to grade you by. Quizzes are open book and based entirely on what he says in lecture. He teaches with a lot of enthusiasm and is hilarious. You'll learn a ton and laugh with him.

Any class with Simon is amazing. He cares, hes accessible, and his goal is to actually teach you. The textbook is only used for background info for the papers which are time consuming at worst; if you put half an effort in, the grading is easy. Labs are fun, you get to play with rats. The project is a breeze. 100% would recommend.

Simon is amazing. He teaches well and is passionate about the topic. He gives practice exam tests and answers emails quickly. You have to attend class because he tests on content discussed in class. Posts notes online, but they're not complete with everything he says. Marking TAs for first paper are awful, make sure you cite APA like a god.

One of the best profs I've had during my undergrad! He makes lectures extremely interesting and you'll find yourself actually wanting to come to lecture and listen. Quizzes were extremely fair if you came to class and took notes. Tests were very easy - 45 multiple choice questions. I would highly recommend this class and this prof to anyone!

Dr. Spanswick is extremely nice and very funny. He posts all the lecture notes online but you should still go to class because his quizzes are based on stuff he mentioned in lecture that wasn't on the slides. The final was a bit tough but if you actually study (unlike me) you should be fine.

Simon made every lecture interesting! If you are curious about the subject and would like to learn more about brain and behaviour, you should take it! Quizzes were easy and you could use your lecture notes, one paper, and midterms were multiple choice and not too hard. Engaging and funny lectures.

Great prof - his lectures are super interesting and he's pretty funny. His quizzes are all open book, but most questions are related to things he discussed only in lecture. Midterms are m/c, some questions strictly from textbook material. Paper was straight forward, just follow the rubric. Final was very fair. I'm sad that this course is over!

Simon is the best! He presented material in a very organized way. He used the textbook a little bit (ie. there may be one or two questions on the test that he did not cover in the lectures), but overall not much reading or out of class work required. He was passionate about his subject, and it showed in his teaching. PICK THIS GUY!

I miss this class. Favourite professor thus far at UofC. Makes sure the class understands a concept. Lectures are engaging and he obviously cares about the material. Quizzes open book and help you get used to writing short answer for the final. I would say attend class to fully understand whats being taught and use text as supplementary.

I was so worried about taking this course as I'd heard people had struggled with it as it's super specific. Professor Spanswick genuinely cares about his students and wants them to do well, uses tons of interesting examples and research. You need to attend classes and do the readings to do well - pure memorization.

He makes the lectures fun and actually jokes (even early morning ones). He does use some material covered in lecture that is not in the textbook on tests and in-class quizzes so go to class! Read the textbook for the tests; tests are doable! He is approachable and nice.

Dr. Spanswick is the best, if you didn't have an interest in neuroscience before his class, then you will afterwards. He's hilarious and makes a lot of jokes during class, he covers the textbook pretty well for the most part and his exams are really easy and pretty fair just make sure you go to class for the quizzes.

The class itself was pretty difficult, but he keeps things interesting and uses really great examples to solidify things. He uses papers, texts, and quizzes to help distribute your grade so it isn't hard to be successful. He's a great professor and really knows his stuff, hilarious too.

He was by far my favourite prof. He was funny and kind, and always asked how his students were doing (not that anyone answered). He was good at teaching and always gave good examples that stuck in your head. 10/10 recommended this class and this prof.

Dr Spanswick is so funny, made the lectures really enjoyable and I actually liked going to class. He explains everything very well and is very clear on what he expects. Papers are short and tests are easy as long as you study for them. Only bad thing is that you have to read the textbook for exams and he only takes a few questions from there.

One of the best profs I have had in my bachelor's so far. He is super halarious, relatable to his students for some reason, and knows how to keep the lectures interesting and easy to understand. Tests are straightforward what he says they'll be like, so studying well gives an easy A. Also quite accessible outside class. Defs recommend his classes!

PSYC 204 was not easy for me, because it was kind of advanced for a first year, however, my grades slowly got higher as I got used to the method of testing and what the TAs were looking for in research papers. Don't skip class, trust me, understand the concepts, don't memorize, write detailed notes, and it's an easy A.

Dr. Spanswick is a fantastic professor. He is great at going through the material and gives you a ton of examples to help you understand how the material is applied to real life. My only criticism would be that he tends to be slightly monotoned. He does his based to address this by making jokes which keep you engaged. Great at replying to emails

The best prof at UofC hands down, I recommend Spanswick's classes to everyone as he is such an amazing prof. Genuinely cares, hilarious, organized, interesting concepts. Although 375 is a difficult neuroscience class, Simon Spanswick makes the content incredibly fascinating to learn. UofC needs more profs like Simon.

Ive always really enjoyed classes with Simon and he is very knowledgeable in his field. This class was very interesting if you want to know about memory more specifically. Rubrics could be better. Overall Simon is a really good prof. That being said, there are major concerns with his TA who will never admit to being wrong and arbitrarily grades.

Read the text book, come to class & pay attention how to get a good grade in this course. The quizzes are easy if you STUDY the night before - you will NOT have time to look up answers during the quiz! If you don't like biology/chemistry, beware.

He is the #1 psychology/neuroscience prof on planet Earth. The only prof I would go to 9 am lectures for. Lectures are never boring. You will learn a lot in this class and love every second of it!

I loved having Simon as a prof, however I still found his class very difficult. He makes lectures very engaging, although he does go quite fast and if science isn't your thing (like me) it is very hard to keep up. Despite the difficulty of the class (typical average for the class is around 75%), Simon is great and cares about his students.

Simon is so incredibly knowledgeable and LOVES answering questions, his lectures make me laugh out loud, and the content is really engaging. You can tell he cares a lot for his students. Take. Class. After 4 years, Dr. Spanswick is the professor that stands out the most to me. He truly cares about his students. The course has a LOT of content, but he gets that and tries to support us the best he can. Read the textbook. Attend every lecture; he makes them fun. Ask him for help when falling behind. I have taken 4 courses with Dr. Spanswick and I absolutely adore him. His classes were the only early morning lectures I never slept through. He is passionate about everything that he teaches, and he really cares about his students. He is also hilarious so don't ever skip class, you will regret it (not to mention he drops exam hints all the time).

One of the best profs in Psych. You can tell that he is very passionate with what he does, and thus as a result you also get excited to learn. Very caring and responds to questions with adequate depth. The assignments were very simple and are marked fairly depending on the TA. But you do have to make sure you're going into enough depth.

Not only will you pay more attention in class, because he makes lectures super fun, but you'll also become more engaged with the content as well. He gives three written answer quizzes, which are really tough and super fast but the exams are really easy and worth more. This class has a textbook but is mostly lecture based so GO TO CLASS

His lectures were interesting and he was very approachable. However, some advice that he does not make clear (even kinda suggests the contrary): you don't need an introduction/conclusion for your written assignment!!

It is very easy to do well in this class as long as you show up and put in a bit of work. Simon is one of the best professors at UofC, he creates entertaining and inspiring lectures. There was five assignments in this class, four lab assignments and a group project (not as bad as you would think). I would definitely recommend this class with Simon!
