Incredibly smart, nice and helpful prof, but the material is just *BRUTAL* sometimes (i.e. so boring). Only take his courses if you have a serious interest in the field of audio recording and production.

Simon actually cares whether or not you're learning the material, and will take whatever time is needed to help. Just a phenomenal person and a great professor. Beware though, his tests might be harder then they seem!

I have never seen a classroom so full before this class- you have to come at least 10 min early to get a good seat. Everyone loves Simon! How could you not? He's incredibly knowledgeable, articulate, hilarious and easy on the eyes. Love the hair! He'll have no problem getting his PHD.

Wood is frikin'hilarious!! He is one of the only profs, where I can sit through 3 hours of lectures and not get bored. Two thumbs up!!

One of the best profs I've ever had, genuinely cares about his students and will give constructive criticism when needed. More than willing to help out any student in need and has a great love of the atomic chicken noises... Just take a S.Wood class and you'll see why people dig his material!

BEST PROF AT MAC!!! funny, incredibly intelligent, cares about his students, and will help you if you are in a bind. If you are at mac, definitely take one of his classes. You will never regret it.

Best prof on campus. I took one of his courses, and every week I counted down the days until his next lecture. The following year, I took a course just because I knew he was teaching, and I had no clue about multi media stuff. Through how interesting he makes his lectures I came out with an A! Best prof of all time.

Simon is an easygoing guy who tells it like it is; he makes class fun, despite all of the assignments that taking this course entails. I hope to have him again next year!

All and all he's alright... A well-needed break from your average lecturer...

This course changed my life. It introduced me to new musics and made me more receptive to new kinds of music. If you are a music lover, then this is the class for you.

He gave a new outlook to movie watcing. He was funny and always happy.

Favorite prof at MAC. his classes are a much needed break from required classes. took two classes of his now and loved both. you do need to study for his exams but he is fair overall. 3 hour lectures can be brutal but he makes it interesting. NICE SHORTS!!

Best professor and class i've had at McMaster. He is an funny, engaging, amazing professor who makes the material come to life. I found myself interested in going to lectures (for the first time) just to hear his stories. And to top it off, he can actually sing!

This class is amazing! Dr. Wood is probably one of the best lecturers at McMaster. Very interesting material. The tests/exams were all M/C and a bit tricky but if you study you'll do well. Also, you have to go to every class as he doesn't post notes but you honestly don't want to miss it anyway. This guy can teach his pants off!

The fact that this is my first time doing one of these ratings is a testament to how absolutely brilliant Simon Wood really is. Seriously, this man was born to teach- he lectures as if he is telling you a story, and his charm and wit ensure that you hang on to every word he utters. In a perfect world, he would be teaching every course at Mac.

Very passionate about what he teaches and VERY interesting. His classes are ALWAYS fun and filled with anecdotes that get more than their fair share of laughs. His exams are a little more intense than expected. Attention is required in lecture and it shows on the exams. Overall, a wonderful course and worth the 3 hours of night class!

Best prof out there! This class was so interesting and he knows so much about the music that you really want to attend just so you can hear all the extra tidbits. He is a cool guy too and it shows. I would totally sign up for any other class he teaches....in fact I started looking for one! He's got a great sense of humor too. Excellent!

Take this class! It was at 930 in the morn, and I had no trouble getting to class. I was excited about what I would hear in music each day. Simon Wood is an amazing individual, he is so intelligent and really cares about his students. You come out learning SO much about how music influences society. Best class ever, you will not regret taking it.

Best prof I've had at Mac. Not only was he a phenomenal teacher but he took the time to give us advice about how to do well in university in general as well. Sometimes, he'd end his lectures with a little "stay strong, my friends" or "use the force, trust your feelings" in a joking kind of way but I would remember that for the rest of the day :)

Amazing! Interesting prof, hilarious, lectures appealing to ALL faculties. Easy assignment structure, genuinely cared about everyone. If you had a bad day, he told you to come talk to him, even if it had nothing to do with the class. Ignore older negative comments, as he openly struggled with depression. BEST PROF AT MAC, HANDS DOWN.

In my 4 year university career, he is the only professor who taught me anything. Makes the whole course in to a story and effectively ties history and social movement into music. He is amazing. I wish the course was a full year class.

A 350 word limit is not enough to explain how awesome this prof is! I am in my fourth year at Mac and I only wish that he could have taught all my classes! I learned so much from this one class. He is the true example of what a professor should be! He loves what he talks about and he will definitely make you love learning! Rock on Mr. Wood!

I would say he's an okay teacher, but his tests are not easy. Lots of textbook questions and lots of (A, A&C, B&C, all) type questions. He spent way too much time pre-WW2. The first test was basically all race & hillbilly music. The last class was the first time he talked about Zeppelin, which was a shame. I wouldn't take it again, and I love music

This guy isn't a lecturer. He is a TEACHER! You actually leave class knowing the material instead of writing a bunch of stuff down. Best instructor I've ever had. Super nice guy and is hilarious. Very knowledgeable of course material.

Simon is a great teacher. The content was so interesting, i really learned a lot. He is a great story teller and just an all around great guy. He's so funny too, every week he had our entire night class cracking up (a difficult feat too, night classes are awful!). Will miss him!!

One of the best professors at McMaster. I had the pleasure of taking Music 2II3 and loved the course. Then this term I took Music 2F03 (theatre and film) and didn't know who the prof was... when I saw him standing there, I cannot explain to you how happy I was to see him! Honestly, the best..

Dr. Wood is an amazing professor. He is funny, respectful, knows his stuff and really teaches you what will be on the tests. He doesn't add in trick questions that he only touched on for a second. This was the second time taking this course as I failed the first time with a different prof, and thanks to Dr. Wood I passed and actually understood.

Simon is phenomenal instructor. If you have the chance to attend one of his classes or be enrolled in his course I would highly recommend it. As an instructor you can really tell how passionate he is about this study. Simon is very intelligent and his teaching skills are far from boring. Lectures are mandatory but I guarantee you wont want to miss.

A true lecturer, knows his material inside out. Really cares for his students, and lectures are so engaging you will never want to skip. Textbook is a bit dry but it follows his lecture material closely. Overall a great professor, you will not be disappointed.

He wants students to learn and grow from this class, and you can tell he really enjoys teaching. 100% would recommend taking any class with him! doesn't post any lecture notes however so class attendance is pretty much mandatory

Simon Wood is extremely engaging, every class is fun to be in. Its definitely such an enjoyable elective. And every now and then, he blows your mind with cool facts. Textbook readings are given before every test and only questions from the pages he says show up on the test, so its not reading heavy. Definitely recommend this course and Music 2F03!

THE REAL DEAL. Great man, great prof. Sometimes he repeats stories he already told (I'm guessing he forgot he already told them) and it's so cute and funny, if a little flustering. He's so versed and knowledgeable and truly loves what he teaches. One of McMaster's gems.

Hes THE BEST! He truly cares about his students and is the funniest pro ive ever had. However, the midterms and exam were a little challenging but you can definitely get a double digit without putting too much effort. Also, if youre ever confused with anything, you can just email him and he gets back to you in less than a day. Amazing prof.

Simon Wood is one of the best professors I have ever had at McMaster. He teaches music so passionately that content ends up sticking in your head. Tests are fair and the textbook is required.

This has been one of the most interesting classes I've ever taken. It was a Monday night 3-hour lecture and I looked forward to it all week long. If you genuinely just enjoy film, you'll love this class. If you're paying attention in class its pretty easy, if you don't, then you might have a hard time.

Amazing professor! Funny, easy to talk to and very entertaining! EXTREMELY HARD CLASS! Marks are solely based on multiple choices (two midterms and one final exam). The multiple choices are really difficult considering there were so many questionable tricks to it. Not a bird course.

Wood had a lot of interesting stories that made classes enjoyable and concepts memorable. Tests (2 midterms and a final) were very fair if you put a little effort into taking notes during class and did the small amount of readings he clearly stated would be tested (put out study guides for every test). Doesn't post notes online.

Hes hands down the best prof at Mac. If you attend the lecures, take note during lectures and study the reading you should have no problem getting a double digit in his courses. Hes so funny and makes the classes so exciting.

Best prof I've ever had! It's super hard for me to attend night classes, but this class was so easy for me to attend. Instead of it feeling like I'm in a class and bored, I'm always having so much fun in this class! He explains the material perfectly and I never get bored. Also he tells you exactly what sections you need to read for the test!

Honestly my favourite professor at Mac! He had all of these cool/memorable stories about music that he incorporated into the class which made the content even more interesting to learn. Simon Wood is one of the best lecturers at Mac. He's hilarious and makes you very engaged in the course content. You have to make sure to attend lectures and take good notes because he doesn't post them, but the course material is pretty straightforward. Super upset his class got cut short by COVID-19
