New professor who needs to streamline her approach to the material. Extremely nice, helpful, and personable, BUT class was tedious, there were time management issues, and the subject matter was often not presented in a clear manner.
She is amazing. That is all I can say. Some have a hard time getting over the accent, but she is awesome. Very passionate about what she does. I look forward to taking other classes with her.
By far my favorite professor. She is passionate about the subject and sincerely cares about her students. Her exam is tough, but she is an awesome teacher and you will do just fine if you work hard.
Absolutely incredible.... Consider yourself very fortunate if you have her for Civil Procedure in your first year.
strict
I liked her. That being said, I worked extremely hard in this class and my grade STILL did not reflect my efforts. You must come to class very prepared and know minute details of the cases. She doesn't really have mercy with her cold calls which makes class more stressful but come to class prepared and you will be fine.
Had her for Civ Pro. Probably the hardest class I worked for. She is extremely strict and expects a lot from her students. Cold calling is very stressful especially with the microphone she expects you to speak into. She is very helpful when you go to office hours though.
Prof Grossi is fantastic. She may be strict but it is because she wants students to understand the material to succeed. She is one of the most clear professors I have had and makes a difficult subject (CA Civ Pro) understandable. Her enthusiasm makes class fun.
The best? Si! Hard work= great payoff in her class. Read and study, and you'll do just fine. Couldn't find a nicer law professor if you tried
Grossi is the best! Do the work and you will get a lot out of class
She's tough. She demands excellence from her students, and if you put in the work, you will do excellent in the class. You must pay attention, do the readings, and apply what she teaches. If you follow her methods and put in the hard work, you will be ready for her exams and her lectures. Be prepared for class, and go to her office hours!
Honestly, I feel like I wasted so much time with this professor.
Considering this is an important class, I feel like I learned nothing except her unwarranted opinions of how Supreme Court opinions are wrong. Although she comes off as charming, she can be belittling and unapproachable for questions. Attendance is a must, does not make class recordings avail even though she has a heavy accent. Exams were difficult
Grossi is amazing. She is the best law professor you will ever have. The kindest, most dedicated and knowledgeable. She becomes a mentor, a friend and someone who will support you during the hardest time in your academic career (1L). Her classes were the most clear, and what you learn will stay with you long after the class is done.
Nicest and most helpful professor I have had in law school. Her class is very hard, which is inherent to Civil Procedure; however, she does everything in her power to break down the material, explain the nuances, and keep class discussions interesting. She is super accessible through office hours, email, and her personal phone. Simply the best!
Great professor! But keep in mind that she is pretty capricious. Her thoughts/convictions, words, suggestions, and actions do not often line up, and can overreach sometimes--especially when she mentors or helps students . Bask in her expertise and learn what she wants you to learn, but do so in the way that you know works best for you. Enjoy!
A genius. Computers are not allowed and cases assigned are unedited. You might focus on the procedural elements when doing the homework but get flustered when called on for a question in class about something like substantive motorcycle law. But if you pay attention in class, read the assigned codes and cases, the final is pretty straightforward.
Overall she seems very knowledgeable in her field but get ready to be confused, mislead, misguided. Also, be ready to learn nothing for the BAR. No big picture, started a Civ Pro class with Class Action, before anyone even knew what pleadings were, which if you take Civ Pro you will realize how little sense that makes. Read cases and notes.
Pros: Personable & available outside class. Cons: strict anti-technology class policy. Indoctrination (opinion) over education (good law). Focuses on minutiae over big-picture. Asks unclear questions. Poor class/time management. Unclear grading and requirements. Casebook is pricey and useless, but you must read it (esp. notes). Avoid at all costs.
Some profs. know their stuff, but fail at teaching or helping students clarify, understand, enjoy, etc. the subject. Grossi is one of them. Considering CivPro is a 1L class, she gave no guidance on exam taking, no samples you are on your own. To a question when we should argue Due Process, she said it will come to you. Well, it didnt for many.
Grossi is the kind of professor that really knows her subject, but because she teaches 1L Civil Procedure, she's extremely disappointing. Grossi overcomplicates the most basic issues of law/procedure (due process should be easy to understand) and her lectures are difficult to follow/poorly organized, with no visual aids. Bad experience overall.
DO NOT TAKE! Just echoing what others say. She overcomplicates simple issues and is incredibly unclear. She tested us with a fact pattern where the primary issue on the test was based around a case that we didn't read and that was just cited in one of the cases we did read. And get this, we never discussed this cited case in class. Don't risk it!
Believe what the upperclassmen tell you. Avoid if you can. Gives no examples of what she expects, intimidates students to not ask reasonable questions, refuses to provide past exams claiming she customizes the final but doesnt, no actionable guidance. Use supplements/others past exams. Dont feel pressure to participate, its worth zero.
All prior comments are spot on. A horrible experience is an underestimate. She hates using any technology, asks students to take screenshots of handwritten notes on zoom, no practice exams, supper confusing during class. She spends days on topics that will never be tested. Unpleasant atmosphere in class deters participation. Avoid at all cost!
Grossi should not be a law professor, period. She makes simple concepts complicated, confuses herself and students in every lecture, goes on long, irrelevant tangents and takes a totally unstructured, scattered approach to teaching a rules-based subject. I genuinely feel cheated, and anticipate re-teaching myself CalCivPro during bar prep.
Grossi is Loyola's greatest treasure. I have never had a prof so refreshing, brilliant, inspiring, and caring as her. She is SO passionate about the law and federal rules it's blessing to be her student. To have a professor that captivates you with extremely dense material is so rare. She pushes her students to be the best and has the kindest heart
Best professor, makes an extremely hard subject super digestible and fun too. She is also energetic and wants all her students to succeed. If you do the readings and absorb her lectures (which are just amazing) you will be just fine. Midterm exam was very fair
Any overly positive reviews are lies. She will overcomplicate the simplest topics and create a hostile class environment where no one wants to ask questions because she will keep picking on you. I taught myself 90% of the course because she spends class time interrogating students rather than teaching as if we're supposed to know everything
Grossi is Kind and caring if you get to know her. Besides a professor, she has a nice personality and she really deserves more credit than people give her. Civil procedure is hard in genreal but if you watch a few videos on youtube and use google and do your own due diligence, you will get the hang of it, trust, its not that hard once it clicks. DW
I know that civ pro is hard in general, but grossi, at least for me, made it a lot harder than it needed to be. I was scared to ask questions in class or go to her office hours because she made students feel dumb, only paid attention to the handful of students in our class that really understood the material, and her lectures are scattered.
SG is one my favs. I took 2 courses (Fed Civ Pro & one law elective) in addition to doing a serious directed research with her. She is very invested in her course topics, her students and our success. She gets focused on making sure everyone "gets it." Study the FRCP & try to apply them! If needed, ask her to slow down, she'll understand!
Grossi is a very smart and accomplished woman - but a terrible professor. Overcomplicates everything. If you don't learn the material yourself you're screwed.
She's pretty knowledgeable, and it's fun to be at her lecture; one of the best professors, highly recommended.
SG is a top law prof, a well-known, successful litigator. Her skills & expertise in solving tough cases are renowned across the US. Proud of being her student. Her unique handy slides make hard CivPro topics simple & easy to understand. She cares for students, providing invaluable insights & inspiration. Mentor & role model for future lawyers.
Complicates simple concepts, hides the ball, insults students trying in good faith. Overbearing, occasionally rude, writes people off and treats you accordingly. Instead of focusing on the concepts you're worried about pleasing her caprice. Rigid thinking, advises students not to outline, asks questions beyond what is taught then upset you're wrong
Grossi is charming and passionate but a terrible teacher. Themis videos would clearly explain a concept in 30 minutes that she would spend 5 classes on. Exams are super ambiguous and only test on 2 topics, so if you get them wrong too bad. Only professor 1L to make you buy her own $300 book that doesn't include the answer key for problems lol.AVOID
Prof Grossi is the most caring professor you will have at LLS. She cares about her students in a way like no other. Read, ask questions, participate & you will succeed! Her slides are everything you need to know to pass with a great grade!!!
Professor Grossi is the reason I fell in love with the law. Her mind is exceptional, and it was an honor to learn from her. She built me up carefully, giving me confidence where I needed it and humility where I could use it. Her class is challenging yet deeply rewarding, filled with unique perspectives that truly bring the material to life.
Professor Grossi is my absolute favorite professor of all time. She is simply brilliant. She is passionate about the law, but she is most passionate about her students and ensuring they learn and master the lawyering skills no one teaches you until you start practicing. I'm eternally grateful to her and lucky to still call her a mentor today.
Grossi is very loved in the community and is quite literally one of the most impressive professors I've had. Civ pro is NOT an easy course, it's not a torts class. Grossi provides power points and breaks everything down in a cohesive and organized way. Pay attention to lectures, use her slides and you'll be fine on the exam.
Professor Grossi is a gem. 1L year has been tough, but you can always count on Professor Grossi having your back. This was the only class where I would look forward to attending lectures because she made it fun, interactive, and overall enjoyable. She always wants the best for her students.
I took Prof. Grossi for CA Civil Procedure. She is super smart and really funny during lectures, which made class very engaging. The class was well-organized and she uses slides. She provided us with the rule statement she wanted word for word. MEMORIZE IT! I heard bad things about Grossi before taking her class and I'm glad I ignored them.
She is an absolute genius—one of the smartest and most strategically minded individuals I've ever encountered. You might not grasp this right away, but once you're in the workplace, you'll realize that she teach you to play chess while everyone else is stuck playing checkers. She is passionate about the subjects & cares about her students' success.
Prof. Grossi will push you intellectually and expect you to push back. (If that's not your speed, then don't take her class, but you're missing out on a real learning opportunity.) While Con Law is a tough subject, she made it understandable and memorable—I was MUCH better prepared for the bar than others were. One of the best profs I had at LLS.
Professor Grossi is amazing. Civil Procedure is a very important class and professor Grossi treats it as such. You need to work hard, stay focus, take notes, participate, and you will get the result that you deserve. Take good notes in class. Use office hours to get to know her in person; she will become your life long mentor.
One of the most incredible professors I have ever had. Her courses are demanding and you need to put effort in in order to succeed, but the way she teaches you to write and the precision she requires are skills that will make you a successful and better student/attorney down the line. She pushes you to work hard, but it's worth it. I recommend.
Professor Grossi is amazing! Civpro is tough but she makes it click and doesn't let you give up. She's passionate and genuinely cares about her students and she's the reason I became a litigator. I took her for civpro, conlaw, and cal civ and still wish I had more time with her. If you're willing to put in the effort, she's incredibly inspiring.
SG cares. Civ Pro is a tough class to teach, but she executes it very well. Her classroom is a safe space where students can ask questions and feel comfortable answering even if they're unsure. Show that you care and she'll go above and beyond to help you reach your goals. Sure, she's blunt, but that's better than letting my understanding be vague.
Grossi is incredible. Absolutely the only person I would pay attention to at 8am. She's so passionate and charismatic and loving with students, my entire class adores her. The class is well-organized and her method of engaging the classroom is really strong. It's absolutely my favorite class, I think she's such a talented professor.
Grossi is why you go to law school. Her lectures were so compelling and her ability to distill complex issues is an artform. She is passionate about her student's learning and she goes out of her way to make herself accessible. Easily the best teacher I've ever had and would 10/10 recommend her class. WALK DONT RUN, take it and it will change you!
Very passionate. She is so kind, & if you put effort into her class she will notice and put more effort into mentoring you. She has hundreds of students but gives them all her personal phone number to reach her at any time. She is so smart, and great at pushing students to do their best. If you don't want to be challenged, don't take her class
Professor Grossi is incredibly inspiring. I have taken three courses with her. She is passionate about the law and I leave class truly inspired and wanting to learn more. Just LISTEN. She is telling you everything you need to know. Come to class prepared, open and ready to learn. Recent Loyola Grad, Grossi is at the top.
As an LLM student, having Professor Grossi was truly a gift - working through complex legal material in a new system was challenging, but genuine warmth, patience, and deep understanding made it so much easier! Grossi makes law school worth it! She CARES about her students! Best professor I've had! I'll take Grossi's Con Law next semester 100%!
She makes Civil Procedure easier to understand. She's very passionate.
“Professor Grossi is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about Civil Procedure. She challenges students to think critically and understand complex concepts deeply. Be prepared to participate in discussions and keep up with the readings, as her classes are intellectually rigorous but highly rewarding.
Prof. Grossi is one of the most caring, passionate, and knowledgable professors I've ever had. Her lectures are fun and she pushes her students to do their absolute best, never taking no for an answer. These amazing qualities make Prof. Grossi one of the best professors at Loyola and you will not regret taking her.
Professor Grossi *builds strong foundation for the bar(the cours fully covers the bar exam) *always reviews the material(even if you don't make much efforts, the information gets drilled into your memory) *makes complicated rules easy to understand and gives mechanisms how to apply them. I am existed to start ConLaw with my favorite professor ever!
Professor Grossi is not only passionate, inspiring, challenging, and dedicated, but cares deeply about students and their success within the course. Civil Procedure is not an easy subject and although she does not necessarily make it easy to understand initially, the overall teaching of the course makes it digestible. She is tough but for a reason.
amazing professor, lawyer, and person. it is evident she knows this material inside and out and is respected for what she is: brilliant. she cares so deeply about her students and encourages us all to be the best. having high expectations prepares us for the real world! i applaud her for it!
I love Grossi. It took me a while to understand, but Grossi is hard on her students because she cares. She trains us to be the best lawyers/law students we can be, and I can confidently say that I know way more in civ pro than any other class because of her teaching style. She truly loves and cares for her students so much, and it shows!
Professor Grossi holds us to a high standard because we are training to be lawyers: a profession responsible for protecting party's rights. She does this because she cares. She is willing and able to answer any civil procedure questions we have before, during, and after class as well as during office hours. Her passion and expertise is evident!
Highly dedicated, thorough professor. Her passion bleeds into her lectures which are equal parts theoretical and practical. Very organized and demands thorough readings of opinions. She cold calls but will walk you to the answer. Taking a course with Grossi will make you a better law student, regardless of the subject. I will be taking her again.
Professor Grossi, a very good and responsible professor, the lectures were always held at a very high level, if I had additional questions about the materials, I could always come up and ask. A very good professor.
Great Professor
Interesting, inspiring, fare
Professor Simona Grossi is an outstanding lecturer. Her slides and lectures are highly informative, and she is always approachable for questions—during class, breaks, or via messages. She ensures every student understands the material, explaining concepts thoroughly. I feel fortunate to have her as my teacher.
Prof. has very unusuall approach to read lectures. She tries to teach us how to solve the case problem with a couple different ways. She every time tries to involve the students to discuss.
SG is a wonderful professor who cares about her students. Classes are very well thought out, only important information.
With Prof. Grossi you will be ready for the bar!! And for practice! Classes are never boring!
My favorite Professor at Loyola! Her lectures are thoughtfully structured, blending theoretical insights with practical applications. Highly recommend!
I like Professor Grossi. It took me some time to understand that, but I've come to see that she's super tough because she genuinely wants the best for her students to become the best lawyers.
10/10! Highly recommend. Thanks to her teaching style, my understanding of Civil Procedure is more than any other class. Her dedication and care for her students are truly evident and make a lasting impact!
Professor Grossi is undoubtedly the greatest professor I've ever had. I don't exaggerate when I say since the first day of class, she has become my role model, inspiration, and motivation to succeed in law school. Not only is she an incredible lecturer and professor––clearly a master of her craft––she truly cares about all her students. 5/5 stars.
Professor Grossi is a great professor! Civil procedure is a hard subject to understand, especially as a 1L, but she made civil procedure digestible and easy to understand. She was always available to students outside of class during office hours or by email to answer any and all questions about the course and material we were learning.
Trust me when I say all the positive reviews are lies. Good luck if you've been assigned to her.
Prof. Grossi is tough, you're going to have to do each reading and put in the work but she truly cares for her students and wants you to understand. Civpro is hard for a 1L and things may not make sense at first but you couldn't be in better hands. If you put in the work, you will understand it and can excel. Very lucky to have her for this class!
Professor Grossi is one of the most amazing professors at LLS. She cares about her students inside and outside of the classroom. She is a wonderful person to have rooting for you, you just have to ask for help. She is incredibly intelligent, knowledgable, helpful, and genuine. I absolutely love her!!!!
I am very glad to have had her as a professor. Many reviews point to the harsh grading, but from my experience, this class gives you what you put into it. Prof. Grossi is very passionate about the law and an expert in her field. The way she delivers information is very digestible, and I highly recommend taking her if possible.
Grossi is friendly but her teaching style makes learning the content way more difficult than it needs to be. I often relied on learning the material through methods other than her confusing lectures. In class, she called on the same handful of students and came off condescending a number of times. Very knowledgeable but it doesn't always translate.
SG's teaching style was extremely hard to follow. Also, it was painful listening to her talk about herself. I did well in this class ONLY because I relied on previous outlines. Mind you, she told us NOT to do this. Don't disagree with her, call her out on her mistakes, and suck up to her if you want her to like you.
I think her style works for some people and not for others but I absolutely LOVED this class. She has so much energy and passion and really set the tone for law school for me. She is so supportive and has such a good rapport with the class. If you participate in class you will form a genuine bond with her and she will go above and beyond to help.
I enjoyed every lecture with Professor Grossi!
She was the best teacher I had all of 1L! If the subject matter of her classes were more of interest to me, I'd take them all. She made Civ Pro very approachable and fun to learn. Her slides were amazing and I used them as my outlines for the exams. She is also very positive and warm! She cares a lot about her students.
Professor Grossi is the best professor I have ever had. She was tough with cold calls sometimes but only because she wanted the best for us. I learned a lot from her and highly recommend taking a class with her if you have the opportunity.
