Shes a great professor, really cares about her students! Simone is also pretty funny and passionate about her work, and will talk about her stories which I usually enjoy.
Professor Simone is absolutely amazing & passionate. She is one of the best professors here at San Jose State & cares about all her students. Her class was held once a week for 2 hours & 45 min. Since we did meet up only once a week she gave out quizzes in every class lecture(pretty easy). There are 2 papers and the final was extremely easy.
Great professor! Worked mostly on 1 paper the whole semester & you get to work on it while in class. She makes you have meeting w/her so she can help you out on your paper. Gives great feedback. Attendance is not mandatory but gives you participation points from being there & it helps hearing feedback she gives to others in class. No exams.
She really cares about her student! Has many interesting stories that made the three hour lecture not as bad. She gives out many extra credits, so participate as much as you can. She tries to remember students name (there were 150 students in my class). Finals and midterms are out of 10-12 questions, which each question worth 10-20 points.
I really didn't like this professor. The class was really unpleasant. You have to attend class everyday for participation points, but going is absolutely useless otherwise. She goes off topic a lot and never really talks about anything relevant. Also there's an extra book she makes us buy and it's useless and boring. Take another class if you can.
This professor is one of the best professors at SJSU!! She loves and respects all of her students. Class was easy if you read and do your work. I ended up with an A+. Simone is so inspiring and loves her job. TAKE HER!!!
This class was amazing! Everything for the whole semester was basically played out in the syllabus, so t was easy to start assignments early if I wanted because the directions were right there the whole time. We learned about a ton of theories, even newer ones that other professors don't go over as much. She tells a lot of stories and is engaging.
Syllabus had all of the assignments. The class was basically for this big essay, but she breaks it down so it's not intimidating or hard to get through. I felt better about my writing after this class and made some friends I still talk to. I even remember where to find things in the APA manual still.
This class highlighted a new perspective on prejudice for me, and was easy to apply to my real life. There is an interview assignment that was fun to do, and helped me building a new understanding in one of my friendships. I even understand my experiences with race and ethnicity differently now. It's easy to participate too, which is worth a lot.
The topic of her course is Narrative Therapy and you really learn so much. The books are by the founders of the theory, and we even got to go to a workshop by one of the founders, it was amazing. She has so much experience working with so many populations, she literally has a story for everything. I'd say, participate a lot though.
She's sweet, direct, and very inspirational. I would take her again but I graduated
She is so caring and just wants you to think and participate! There were 3 papers for the entire class that were not hard at all & reflections. In her eyes, there is no right or wrong, she really just wants you to learn about a concept that is underrepresented "Social Constructionism" and overall it was great. Participate, Participate, Participate!
She was awesome, kind of overwhelming at first, but I think that's just because there aren't other professor who express how passionate they are the way she does. Also, very understanding and compassionate.
Professor Lundquist was my absolute favorite Psyc professor at SJSU. Shes is extremely passionate and WANTS all of her students to succeed. She is kind and caring which makes it easy for students to approach her. Please take one of her classes you wont regret it :)
If you put in the work, you'll get a ton out of this class. It's a lot of reading/writing, but Dr. Simone is legitimately hilarious and makes everything interesting. As long as you show up, do the reading and write the reflection papers, you'll learn a lot and have fun doing it. Easily top 2 or 3 favorite class and professor at SJSU.
Professor Lundquist is by far my favorite professor ever. I've taken her twice and she is an amazing lecturer. Her classes are very interesting and engaging. It is full of discussions. She is very passionate and truly cares. Definitely, recommend taking her if you get the chance. My advice is to try to participate and have good attendance.
Amazing professor. This psychology capstone class is different from others as it teaches you a different perspective that isn't psychoanalytic. There is a lot of reading and discussions based on the readings, but the readings help you understand narrative. If you don't like participating at all, don't take her. You MUST participate and go to class.
Professor Lundquist was a great professor, the most amazing! She genuinely cares. Textbooks and participation matter, but the class truly changes your outlook on life. Love her!
The topic of the capstone was difficult to adjust to because it's so different from everything I've learned in my other psychology courses. I'm so glad I took this class or I wouldn't be able to be the kind of therapist I want to be, or show the kind of results in clients that effective therapists should have. So eye-opening.
This class was super informative on feminism, and was very useful in my real life. I don't think enough classes make the material transferable to my life, but this one definitely did. There's so much I can teach the people around me about how patriarchal our society is, even in small ways we don't examine in our everyday lives.
Amazing class, she really has a story for everything and brings a different understanding of prejudice to the table. There was a lot of reading, but the blind book is phenomenal. You get to hear about prejudice from a minority group you don't get to hear from often. Would definitely take again.
It's hard not to participate in this class because honestly everything we talk about is so fascinating! There's a few book we read during the semester, but it doesn't feel burdensome or anything. I would say order them ASAP though, because they take a while to ship.
Quizzes are given every week, but you'll really never know which day so you have to come to class prepared everyday. Memorize her slides! I never used the book. She is super passionate about what she teaches.
She is super intimidating but her lectures are lively and her personality is funny. Attendance is mandatory and your grade will drop if you do not show up since she takes attendance and takes note of who participates in the discussion, assignments are 1 page reflections of the assigned reading chapter, two papers that aren't too difficult either
Dr. Simone is a wonderful Professor. She is very passionate about her work and her students. You will never want to leave her class, and you will find yourself wanting to learn so much more from her.
One of the best classes I have ever taken. I never wanted to miss a class because the material was so interesting. After every class I always felt so inspired because she's so passionate about what she does. Her classes are so eye-opening and no other professor on campus is teaching this stuff!! Definitely recommend
It's important to actually do the reading and come prepared for class. The reading is super interesting though, and then you have to write reflections which are easy. She makes you feel like what you say matters and encourages everyone to speak and use their voice. She actually cares about what you think and have to say
She makes the environment really welcoming and she's funny. She has a lot of good quotes that make you think. It's not a joke class you actually learn stuff that is useful and you can use in your life. More professors need to be like her
Do the work and you will get a good grade. The classroom is very lively because she's so energetic and passionate. The papers aren't bad and the overall workload is doable.
Dr. lundquist is an amazing professor. This was such a fun class. We had one group project and an interview assignment. This is one class where you will find yourself wanting to participate more and more because class discussions are so interesting.
This class was very engaging and I learned so much on how to do APA styled papers. We had a few assignments, and we mainly worked on one main research paper for the entire semester. She is very helpful and she made this class very fun!
We used two books for this class and wrote two really fun papers about Gatsbys personality using different theories. Come to class prepared because participation matters. The class discussions are soo fun and engaging that you wont want to leave.
This was a wonder class. We had 10 quizzes the entire semester, and wrote a paper on a theory that we got to create. Her class discussions are so much fun and its an easy class. She really helps you understand the material because she cares soo much about her students and wants them all to succeed.
I didn't know what to expect out of this class when I first signed up, but it ended up being life-changing for me. I got introduced to many different perspectives throughout the semester, and I still think back on the many amazing class discussions we had about women, the struggles they face in society, and what they can do about it.
100W is one of those classes that every psychology major dreads, but Dr. Simone made sure that this class was clear and to-the-point. I learned how to write an APA styled research paper in this course as well as how much work needs to be put in to such a paper in order for it to be successful.
This course had an interview assignment and a group project that both turned out to be fun and educational. Participation in this class really mattered because of how profound the class discussions were. The readings for this class completely shifted my perspective on some topics that I had prior to this class as well.
This course was one of my favorites that I have taken with Dr. Lundquist. One of the papers we had to do for this class included looking at The Great Gatsby and using a few different theories to describe the dynamics throughout the book. It really allowed me to go back and forth between theories and learn them better.
This class had one main textbook and powerpoints that discussed many of the chapters in more detail. There were also a few articles to read prior to a class on most weeks and the information we learned from there was used to spark very engaging class discussions. At the end of each week, there would be a quiz based off of the material we learned.
This was one of my more challenging courses I have taken with Dr. Lundquist, but a big part of that is because of how different Narrative Theory is in comparison to anything else psychology students get taught throughout college. Participation in 190 matters because the class discussions really help in understanding these new concepts.
I highly recommend that everyone takes this Capstone class. This is the type of therapy that actually prepares you to make outcomes with clients in the real world, unlike the other classes. The 3 books we read were insightful & Dr. lundquist helps you understand Narrative theory. Participation matters & she really cares about what you have to say.
I enjoy hearing her stories which are very inspirational and interesting. Go to class and do homework and you will pass.
She's one of the best professors I've ever had in my educational career. Tells great real-life stories to help you remember the concepts. If you participate you get extra credit; she wants you to pass. Communication is key!
Professor Lundquist made the class relatable by using real stories. She is very passionate about participation and being present in class (no phones/laptops). But, she really cares about her students and wants everyone to do well. There are weekly quizzes and two term papers. It's a fun class and you'll get real insight on methods of counseling!
One of my favorite classes ever. This class legitimately changed my perspective on both life and the field of psychology. There's no professor out there who cares more about their students. She believes wholeheartedly in her students' brilliance! SUPER interesting lectures and stories--going to class is always worthwhile, and will teach you a lot!
she is a true gem, so kind and understanding, makes learning a joy and easy! you really just have to do the minimum and youll get an A. I took her for as many classes as I could. Do yourself a favor and take her.
Please take her class! She is such an inspiring professor, and she has a perspective on counseling and psychology that is highly eye opening. Dont let her quizzes scare you. Just study the power pints and youll be fine. Tons of extra credit. Take her class, you wont regret it!
I can never get enough from Dr. Simone! I've taken as many classes as I can from her, and TA for her too, but I still learn new things from her lectures. Her incredible wealth of real experience always makes her lectures informative and interesting. She values and believes in her students so much, eventually you start believing in yourself too!
Professor Lundquist has opened my eyes to how corrupt the mental health systems are. She has a TON of experience in the Psych of Counseling and stories to tell. It is very exciting to come to class. She cares for each student. Quiz every week and a few in-class writing assignments so please read the articles and study the power points. TAKE HER!
If you're here reading Dr. Lundquist's rating you're probably already convinced. If you're on the fence, or maybe her class doesn't fit your schedule as well as some other elective, here's my advice: Dr. Lundquist has a uniquely fascinating perspective on people, society, and psychology. Don't miss out on opportunity to learn from a gifted mind.
The professor is caring and very passionate about therapy. She utilizes the flipped classroom model and has students volunteer to read off the slides for her and ask questions for extra credit. There are weekly quizzes and a few in-class writing assignments. There's also one major paper that's split into 2 assignments and a final.
Dr. Simone was the woman who changed my life! Her lectures actually got to the nitty-gritty of what it is to practice narrative therapy and how to help people through trauma. I have taken some of her other classes and she is incredibly caring and understanding! She's very thorough and answers any and every question you got. TAKE HER CLASSES!!!
Dr.Simone is very passionate about what and how she teaches. Like any other instructor Dr. Simone expects students to participate in class and do homework outside of class. Dr.Simone is very understanding and willing to work with students and deadlines as long as she sees students putting in the necessary effort.
One of my favorite classes. Participation plays a big role and I like hearing different people's view on different matters. Attendance is mandatory because the lecture's play a big role for doing in class assignment and also to get a better understanding on the readings. I recommend taking this class with Dr. Simone.
The class was really interesting and easy to follow throughout the semester. Dr. Lundquist was accommodating, answered any questions students had, and classes worked based off of participation rather than completely lecture driven. Overall it was a good class and I would take her again
Dr Simone is an amazing person and professor. She has a lot of life experiences that are relatable to class. Her lectures are one of a kind and hold my attention. Her grading is completely fair and all she ask of us is to stay in contact with her or her TA. I definitely would recommend her to every student!
Every class helped me better realize how I would help my future clients in my own way! Professor Lundquist's true goal in this class is your learning, not memorization for the upcoming test. I think anyone has something to gain by taking her classes, her wisdom and lessons can help anyone better realize what it is they want to do with their life!
Professor Lundquist is a sweet lady and you can tell she loves what she does which is great however, her class is so book-heavy (sometimes two chapters a week). It feels like a lot of busy work (reflection papers and in-class writing assignments) which is relatively easy, but it adds up. It's not the most difficult class but it keeps you busy.
Professor Lundquist is very nice but, her TAs answer all student questions and essentially organize the class and she just comes and lectures. Three papers, a presentation, and a written final exam as well as in-class writing assignments and reflection papers. She wants everyone to pass and is kind, but her style of teaching may not be for everyone
Long chapter readings, weekly in-person quizzes, 2 major papers, and a final exam. Her TAs basically run the class and are the main point of contact, she does all the lectures. Opportunity for extra credit if you ask. She's really nice but like some people have said her style of teaching is not for everyone
Honestly, one of the most influential and inspiring teachers I have ever had. I was feeling lost in my choice to get a Psych degree and her class helped me gain an entirely new perspective on the field as whole. The readings are insightful and the lectures are highly engaging. 100% recommend to any and all!
Dr. Lundquist is very passionate about the topic, which made her lectures very interesting. The class is big on participation. Attendance is necessary to do well. There are reading assignments for each class, but they don't take that long. There is one final paper and presentation. Overall this was a great class with an awesome teacher.
Super caring, passionate professor. Dr. Lundquist has a super unique perspective and tons of real life experience, so her lectures are always interesting and classes feel worth attending. One of my favorite classes I've taken.
Dr. Simone had provided a new perspective to therapy within her capstone I find valuable and insightful to my studies today. She's engaging with her students and attentive to all questions that we might have. Studying under a professor with so much joy and experience in the field has been wonderful in my pursuit to be a mental health counselor.
Lots of reflection papers & reading. Participation heavy to maintain good grades..TA mainly runs the class & asks a question where you spend half the class reflecting on the reading. The teacher shows up after half way after& lectures. Teacher will present herself as kind & acts enthusiastic...Easy A, but you will have to show up to class for points
She is an amazing professor with interesting lectures. Quizzes or in class writing assignments once a week. Quizzes came straight from lecture so pretty easy. Attendance is really only mandatory for quiz or in class writing assignments but will give assignments to you if you miss class.
She was very outgoing and really loves her students. She tells everyone that they're brilliant so it's hard to be scared to share. 3 papers and small little assignments throughout and one presentation which was very simple. Lectures didn't always feel meaningful I felt like I was teaching myself sometimes. Also her TA does a lot of the work for her
She has her TA's do the work for her while she just comes into class to yap about how amazing her non-profit is. She is very opinionated but will back track and say that she is not here to convince her students of anything. Easy class, but you will most likely tune out everything she says to you since it's not really relevant.
Professor Lundquist was very caring and supportive throughout the semester. You can tell she is passionate about the topics discussed. Classes are focused on reading the material beforehand and then in class discussion and reflection assignments on Canvas. One major essay and presentation assignment throughout the semester.
Dr. Simone is INCREDIBLE. Very inspirational, she's given me so much insight into psychology, providing a new lens and understanding that is vital for anyone going into this field. She will teach you things that no other professor will and gives a lot of anecdotal stories from her experiences. She is very positive & supportive. Read & participate!
Attendance is important bc most assignments are in class. She accepts late work and is very lenient. As long as you come to class, it's basically an easy A. Most writing assignments are only a page long. other papers are 3-5 pages but simple. she's very kind and lenient. would def take her classes again
Dr.Lundquist is very passionate about her teaching. She helped me see how much power our mind has to change the world. She values hearing your opinion and thoughts no matter what it is so please be ready to chat with her as most of the class is class discussions. One big group project about presenting a poster. Communicate and you'll be fine! :)
Professor Lundquist is a really really cool person. My only complaint is the lectures get pretty repetetive at a certain point (Psych of prejudice). They will turn into essentially just conversations with the class, for better or for worse depending on your classmates. She will respect every opinion and school of thought which is cool. Easy grader.
Take this class! I loved Dr. Simone, she's an amazing woman and a brilliant professor. Her lectures are very interesting, and she is also very energetic and fun. Dr. Simone also give points for participation, as for me, it was a good opportunity to show yourself. Read textbooks and be involved in classes in discussions - and it'll be good!
This professor is the true goat of women and just any type of field of Psychology and is absolutely amazing!!! A must take for her classes.
Prof. Lundquist is an intelligent person and a good teacher. She teaches you a lot more than just the course material and she's inspirational. The type of teacher who doesn't believe in memorizing material for exams so she makes you write papers instead. she'll change your perspective on psych.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! Have never experienced a class like hers before, she is so open to her students and the class is not based on tests/quizzes but more so participation and written assignments. Encourages her students to speak up and is really supportive/caring. Assignments are not difficult and the class is well-organized.
Her teaching style is more of a class discussion-based rather than teaching new lessons. Usually, you can learn everything from reading the new chapter on your own and discussing it in class later. It is a relatively easy class for me; the TA grades all your papers and provides feedback. Good for taking credits, but her teaching is not for me.
Dr. Simone's Schizophrenia Capstone was one of the most engaging classes I've taken. The assignments were fun and practical, like reflecting on a film and working through therapy with a hypothetical client. It was a great balance of learning concepts and putting them into practice.
Dr. Simone is a passionate professor who cares for both the understanding and application of the concepts we learn in class in a fun and personal way. She encourages us to connect the readings and concepts to our own personal experiences, which was a new perspective for me, and it made for a great class!
Dr. Simone Lundquist is a very understanding and inspiring professor. Her Psyc 191 class is mainly discussion and doesn't require a lot of note-taking. Mainly reading and writing reflection papers.
Dr. Simone's Psyc 190 / Trauma Capstone class is based off of narrative therapy. Her main goal in the class is to teach students how to view trauma as a good thing to help benefit them in the future rather than viewing trauma as only horrible.
Dr. Simone changed my perspective on a lot of theories I learned in psychology. If you're interested in making a difference in people's lives, this is a transformative class. Dr. Simone's enthusiasm and knowledge of narrative theory teaches you how you can improve clients' (if you are interested in working as a therapist) and your own life.
Dr. Lundquist uses a discussion monologue-based lecture, so most of the classes are just conversation and trauma dumping. She does post lecture slides on Canvas and provides the PDF for the free textbooks. Lots of writing assignments and participation. Some of the assignments are kinda confusing, but overall pretty easy.
Each class with Dr. Simone is inspiring, engaging, and makes you think critically! I would take this class again and again. Dr. Simone asks all students to participate and talk in class, which is helpful because you get more out of the class. She cares deeply about her students and wants them to succeed!
P. Lundquist's lectures opened me up to a fresh perspective in ways of therapy. Wonderful lessons and perspectives any therapists-to-be can use, or even think about/use for your own personal life. Work is light and projects are clear, giving you more time to read the interesting material. Be ready to join in the fun and interesting discussions!
Dr. Lundquist's lectures in class are led with curiosity and are conversational. The reading assignments are interesting and made me rethink how I understand prejudice. One thing I like about the writing and her approach is how it encouraged me to apply the material and lessons to my own life.
Participating is really important and encou
Participate it's very important. Amazing person but, she grades end of semester. Otherwise very nice.
Class is quite easy with simple assignments, but there may be some in-class assignments, so you have to show up to class everyday.
