Hurray! A math teacher that likes to teach!! (Okay - there are a few). Ms. Nguyen is my fave so far! Very helpful. If you have a question she'll work the entire problem on the board. Makes herself available: office hours, e-mail, and by phone.
Good Teacher
Pretty clear teacher, provides help in class as well as outside. Offers a extra credit as well as homework help which makes it easy to pass the class
Very good teacher, has a sense of humor, homework was optional but good for extra credit if you needed it.
Clear and Simple in her instruction. Easy to understand. Great instructor if your just starting back or if you are in college math for the first time.
She is a great teacher. Likes what she does that is why her class is so easy. A teacher who likes to teach and cares about her students.
She is one of the best instructors ever. She makes sure that everyone understands what she is doing on the board. She always smiles and makes jokes from time to time. Her exams are easy IF you do the homework. The questions are usually coming from there.
Sheis DA BOMB >.. funny , easy .. and she will help you.. the best ,,a nd wowo she is havinga baby how cute!... She deserves an OSCAR ! She is one dedicated teacher that loves her students
if you want a good teacher who explains everything and never skips any steps, gives extra credit and is flexible she is the perfect teacher for you
Super Easy..GIVE ATLEAST 100 Extra credit points..great teacher
I love this teacher, she my at first be very fast at the beginning of the semester, but as time progress, you'll pick up on her speed. And she's very funny, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND her to all math students who hate math, cause she'll make it very fun and easy.
SUPER EASY!!GIVE LIKE 200 points extra credit!!
Her favorite question: Is it clear? It is she explains math simply and best of all she is able to command the pace. She brings students to a higher level. The tests are no joke, but there ten extra points on each and 20 on the final. Still if you miss class the pace is fast so you'll be playing catch up for a minute.
very fast, but effective. There is a lot of homework, and the tests and quizes are based on the homework and chapter reviews.
Best math teacher ever! She's nice, funny & best of all: knows her stuff & can help u learn it. I hate math, & while it's far from easy for me, a good teacher like her really helps. Thorough lectures. Fair grader. Lots of extra credit. Do all the homework she assigns (quizes & tests r straight out of it) & you just might amaze yourself (like me!)
she's such an awesome math teacher. And if u get an 100% in her class u don't have to take the final. Plus, she gives lots of extra credit
Great teacher! Moves at the pace of the student and explains everything! Recommended.
She was a great Math teacher. I highly reccomend her!
Very easy to understand. Lots of homework but will be helpfull during exams. thot id fail this class but passed with an A
Very clear and helpful. She gives you plenty of extra credit. There is a lot of homework, but it is worth it. If your not good at math this is the right professor for you.
SHE IS VERY BORING
mrs. nguyen was very helpful. she takes her time and goes in your pace. always willing to answer questions. i hate math and passed her class with an A!
She is SO AWESOME at what she does. The best math teacher ever! she cares about her student. If you have trouble with MATH. SHE IS THE TEACHER FOR YOU!
Vey nice, crystal clear lecturer. Homework is not that bad, considering the material. Fair grader, and always goes over the work before a test/ or quiz. If you go to all of the classes and do the homework, easy A
Took her for 110 & 130. Very clear on her lectures & assignments. Shows you the work step by step. gives a little extra credit. Def need the book. Substantial amount of HW. Tells you what will be on the final. I never passed math until I took Mrs. Nguyen. Great teacher.
Mrs. Nguyen is the greatest! She is patient and is always at her office hours. Too bad she will not be teaching math 45.
Daily homework, but goes over it during that days lecture. If you dont go to class, youll definately get behind. Mrs. Nguyen is a very good teacher!!! She has office hours and is there for you when you need her. She'll give extra credit. TAKE MRS NGUYEN!!!!
She is an Excellent Math teacher.Teaches with clarity and patience and makes math enjoyable. She is Always willing to answer questions...Ms. Nguyen is phenomenal!
She goes fast so be prepared to keep up. But she explains everything, is very nice and will help you out, I highly recommend.
she is so sweet. explains everything very well and always goes over the homework. she is always willing to help if you need it. i am definitely going to take her again for my next math class. i highly reccommend
I love Ms. Nguyen. She's very helpful. I hated math so much until I took her class, and I got an A. She doesn't move to fast either. I wish she was teaching 130!! TAKE HER CLASS!!
very very nice and a really great teacher. she will actually help you out until you understand the material. not hard at all, just do the homework. very clear in how she explains things too, and she'l give you all the easy shortcuts on how to solve problems
She is very helpful. You do get alot of homework though. Quiz or test every week but as long as you study your fine.
Since day one she would pressure her students that were doing poorly in her class to just drop rather then help or encourage them. She would tell us the statistics of all the people that drop or fail her class. She forgot teacher comes from the word teach. As a teacher I give her an F-.
If you want to win at math, take this professor - she's awesome.
She lectures way too fast and grades the tests harshly. She lacks patience.
Take this instructor only if you are already good at the subject,if you are not good at math but are trying to learn it,take someone else because you will have a very difficult time with her.If you are taking her good luck you will need it.
IS ANYONE TAKING HER FOR MATH 47 THIS FALL 09 THAT I CAN CONTACT DIRECTLY OR BY EMAIL ? I WOULD APPRECIATE IT THANK YOU
Best math teacher i've ever had. I enjoyed her class. Attendance is really important. Just be there for quizzes, do your homework, the points add up. Really good class for those who process information quickly. I'm taking her again next semester for 130.
I've had her for 2 semester now and she is an amazing teacher! she teaches very well and very clearly. and if you are unsure about anything she will work with you until you understand it. she teaches a lot of tricks and short cuts which are nice. the homework is kind of hard but it really helps for the tests. only downer is the weekly quizes
AMAZING teacher even though I was failing, it wasnt because she wasnt a good teacher. This class involves alot of self discipline, because she never makes anything mandatory. So do the homework, DLA's and attend the class, and you should be fine. I plan on taking her again.
Simone is an amzing teach. She is very helpful and effecient. This is not 110, so be prepared to work. No teacher really requires you attend, it's up to you if you would like an A. I would HIGHLY suggest taking her. Do all your homework and DLA's they add up.
Great professor. I have been struggling with Math 110 prior to taking Mrs Nguyen. After taking her class everything became so easy. Her lectures are easy to understand. Homework is a lot, but it is to prepare you for the exams and you get graded for it so that's cool. Highly recommended!
She's pretty easy. Even though I got a D in the class, she explains most problems well. Her exams are based on the hw. She gives alot of extra credit. You need to do the home work, and DLA to make sure you pass with a C or higher they DO add up.
She is Nice, easy going, clear, flexible, even cute in her own cheeky way. But I digress. The problem is that less than 50% will pass math 130 REGARDLESS who the teacher is!! ADVICE: get the student solutions manual and study your @$$ off! And when you are scratching your head in disgust of yr GPA, be thankful you have Simone as your teacher.
Take her, she is a great teacher. She goes slow and clear! her exams are quite long but you will be okay if you're prepared. Take my advice then go on precal!
I am horrible at math and I still managed to get an A. She's a great teacher to have when you're not so great at math. Is it clear? ^_^
Her class is really fast paced, always cover 2 sections per class meeting, and homework everyday. Pay attention in class and take good notes and you'll be good. Quizzes are based on hw so be sure to do the hw! She offers very little extra credit so don't count on it.
She is extremely good at getting straight to the point of the subject. I have always had a hard time with math, but she explained it in a way that actually clicked!
GREAT math professor! she cares about the student's success, if you show her that you care as well. never makes you feel dumb for asking a question. gives extra credit opportunity. hands papers back quickly. attend every class and you'll do fine
I'm not very smart when it comes to numbers, but with Mrs. Nguyen's teaching she made if even easy to understand. Took the time to help the class. Plus she's a really chill teacher and I can't wait to take her class again next semester.
Super clear, and really helpful. Homework is a must, and the tests are fair and simple. I HATED math, had no interest in it until I took her class. Loved it. She really makes math seem simple.
Great teacher! Good sense of humor!Ask questions,do you homework(you have to turn it in) and do your practice extra credit test for an A.
She's an awesome teacher. I suck at math and I passed with a C. She gives a nice amount of points for homework and DLA's, which really helped me a lot.I took her summer class and passed... yay me!!!! If you suck take her
She is an amazing teacher. I wasn't very good at math but when I took her class last semester for 815 and decided to take her again this semester for 110. She makes it so easy to understand & is always willing to help you. Wish she was teaching 130 in the Spring!
super helpful prof. if your not so bright in math, easy to understand and has the most patients for her students
Mrs. Nguyen is the best math professor at LBCC. Is it clear!!
she is a wonderful math teacher. she gives lots of EC and she helps students in her office if they need it
She is amazing, she helped me to pass in every way she could. She is a very nice and helpful teacher and teaches so clearly making it easy to understand. Her class was easy and enjoyable. If you have a hard time with math I suggest you take her class.
Really good teacher if you struggle with math. Took her in the summer and explained everything very well. Has a good sense of humour and overall a well rounded teacher. Taker Her!
The best math teacher!!! Makes math interesting & easy
One of the best teachers at LBCC! She really cares about her students and makes math interesting. I chose another teacher for math 130,big mistake! I'm going to be enrolling in her class again. & she's very understanding. I had to miss class/quiz because of a family emergency & she let me complete the quiz at the following class meeting.Recommended
i guess i am the only here that does not think the same. she moves way fast in lecture and skips steps because she does it in her head.... i feel lost always. she is a cool teacher though. cant even finish writing the example questions because she has already started the next one geesh.
I'm also not very pleased with her class. She moves way too fast and asumes you know what she's teaching. She skips steps and does them in her head. I had to drop the class I was so confused. She's nice but she's just not the teacher for me.
Professor Nguyen is extremely clear and helpful and just like any other class there is always that percentage of students who procrastinate, do not bother doing the homework, or simply expect to pass by B.S. the course. The reality is that all your bad habits will surface if you are not on top of things. So take it seriously.
She was too fast is everything. At first she would explain everything well then she would just skip some steps and that would get me very lost. Sometimes she would ask the class "is it clear" and one student would say "YES." i hated this. I had to drop the class because i knew i wasn't going to pass.
she was helpful in a lot of ways and she let you do test corrections.
She is a good teacher. As long as you did the homework and went to class you were more than likely to pass the class. The exams were just like the homework.
i would have to say she is one of the best teacher she ever took.. Her class was easy if you did the homework and studied.. Her class consisted of 3 exams. Quizzes each week. Lot of opportunites for extra credit. she is very helpful and would stay afterclass to help you.
First day of class :75 students, didnt take waitlist people at all even though there was seats. German accent, mid term : 45 students , doesn't collect homework, grade is based solely off test Week before final: less than 20 students , don't risk her class, she doesn't understand people in this class might struggle with math.
She was frequently late to class, I asked her a personal question about my grade and she was very loud with her response. I dropped her class after that incident because I was too embarassed to go back. I studied very hard, did all my homework and always participated in class discussions, but all that just wasn't enough.
I took 110, 130, and 45 with this instructor. She is amazing, her lectures are so great and clear. Homework isn't online which that saves you money, she is pretty cool and she makes the class interesting and fun. I definitely recommend her.
Don't have to turn in assignments, quiz every first class of the week on material discussed the previous day. If you're not going to pay attention each day then don't bother. She's easy as long as you understand the material and do good on quizzes. Don't take it easy, she knows her material very well, I do recommend her for those dedicated in class
Not a good professor. She would constantly remind us that it wasn't very likely for us to pass. Our "study guide" would be questions out of the book that didn't cover all the topics. It would include questions she never taught us. Forget about passing if you don't have the drive to do ALL the homework outside of class. She will NOT teach you.
Did not like this professor at all. She moves extremely fast and expects everyone to have math fresh in their head and thinks everyone took a math the previous semester like not everyone is good at math. Really rude and no drive to teach. It seems like she doesn't want to be there in the way she teaches. Not helpful, just don't take her.
Professor Nguyen is a great professor, but she does move extremely fast, I think her class either you get used to it, or you're going to end up falling behind. The homework is not graded, she has 4test, a final, and 10quizzes. She does expect you to keep up, this isn't an easy class, but if you put in effort, it's okay. Not for slackers!
This teacher is difficult, she has no time for slackers and chew ya up and spit ya out, however she is a very silly teacher at times, but don't let that innocent demeanor fool you. do all the homework and directed learning activities and you can pass the tests, but ya gotta work for that grade.
This math teacher speaks very fast and skips steps durning board examples. Sometimes when she is solving a math problem, she will ask students if her answer is correct. She does make mistakes on examples. Kinda funny but she will put a student on the spot. Homework is not graded, so how do you know whether you are doing it correctly?
She's fabulous.
she does a fantastic job at explaining problems in various ways. a little too fast paced sometimes but she's great. wish she taught me math for the rest of my education
Doesn't give a lead way if you show your trying in the class. Homework given everyday.
This professor is one rough Cookie it was told to the class that if your failing it's almost close to impossible not to pass she's not encouraging at all
Pretty chill class. Just pay attention and do the homework and you will pass and tests.
This is the best math teacher i have ever had. She explains everything clearly, if you have questions she will explain. Take her to pass. If you choose anyone else best of luck.
She is a great teacher, takes all of her teaching examples from the books so you can look over them after class. Gives a quiz every Monday from the previous weeks lecture. Offers extra credit I would def take her again.
I learned a lot from this professor. She explains baby steps. I would definitely take her course again.
She's a good teacher. But her voice is annoying ._.
Nguyen is an incredible professor. She makes everything easy.
Lectures are very understandable, homework is recommended but not for grade, she lets you know a week before when there will be a quiz (questions pulled from the homework if you did it), tests are okay (always practice solving problems, it's helpful!), there is extra credit opportunities given before every exam. I would take her again!
Covers a lot of material so don't miss & quizzes every Tuesday on material taught the week before. Very clear when explaining problems. I would take her again.
She's a great teacher. She's very clear in her lectures and takes time to answer questions to make sure you understand the material. She is also available during office hours to answer questions. Test and quiz questions come straight out of the homework problems, so if you do the homework, you should have no problems in this class. Fair Grader!
If you struggle with math, this teacher isn't for you. She teaches way too fast, doesn't slow down even if you ask her, and wisps through content so fast you don't have a chance to process it in your head. I struggled so much with this class, and her occasional attitude didn't help either. I would definitely not take her again.
Possibly the least helpful math teacher I've ever had. She goes through the material way too fast, treats students as if they themselves are the problem because of their struggling, and refuses to help when you ask for it. Do not take her.
Good lectures, she goes through each step of a problem clearly and takes questions. Not easy but you gotta do the work if you wanna pass. I'd take her class again.
Bad attitude. Expects students to already know how to do problems. Writes a couple questions from the book on the board and has the class work it out on their own, you can't wait for the steps. She will quickly do the steps after everyone is done with the problem. She expects a portion of the class to failher words which only reflects her teaching
One of the most clearest math teachers I've ever had. She knows her topics and comes ready to teach her students. She seems though, but she gives a lot of extra credit. If you study and are serious about learning, you'll pass before the final exams. I took her for two courses and I passed them before the finals. She's a great teacher.
Prof. Ngyuen is absolutely amazing. If you don't understand she will make sure you do. She takes her time when she is going over the lesson. There are Quizzes to make sure you understand what is being taught. Try not to miss any classes.
She's one of the best math teachers I've ever had. She'll slow down and carefully work out a problem if you're stuck, and doesn't make you look feel like an idiot for needing help. She also offers 10 pts. extra credit on ALL tests and is a very fair grader. It's also a bit crazy how fast she responds to student emails, which is great. Take her!!
PROS: Gives a ton of extra credit, gives partial credit, doesn't check hw for accuracy but only on completeness. CONS: The type of teacher to start a new section during the last 3 mins of class and expects you to teach yourself the rest, gets annoyed when asked for help, disrespectful, sarcastic, assumes you know past material, NO STUDY GUIDES.
Professor Nguyen was one of my favorite professors for a math course. She is clear and if you have questions she will go into detail. Her exams reflect her lectures. There are homework assignments with every section but as long as they're completed and turned in on time you get full credit. She gives extra credit too. I would recommend her course!
She is an amazing teacher. I slept through most of the class but still passed. And I missed a lot of class and still passed. She lectured very well and would go over what ever you need help with. And you can tell she loves teaching. She is just a great teacher.
Gives lots of extra credit in the form of hw and extra test questions. Tests are out of 100 but she gives extra questions on the test which means its possible to get 110/100. Quizzes are announced the class before, the questions come straight from the hw. Final is made of previous test questions which she gives an answer key. When from D to B.
Prof. Simone is the best. She's the first professor that I take my math class in college. She gives extra credit. homework in every section, but the homework is very helpful for the exam and quiz. I really want to study with her again, if I have a chance. Sadly, this's my last math class. Really thankful to Prof. Simone for this awesome class.
Lectures rely on previous chapters, so study heavily the first half semester. Gives extra credit on 4 exams, 10 more points out of 100. Some exam problems are long, study HW(mandatory), and chapter reviews (optional extra credit). Exams are similar to HW, no bs, which i liked. 6 quizzes, announced 1-2 meetings before. 1 cumulative final. She cares
She is my best Mathematics professor i could ever have. Summer school is hard if you take math but she made me ending up with an A . She is amazing in one word !! I hope I can take more classes of her . Shes best !!!
She is too fast... does not take her time, and has attitude when ask for help.... I recommend you choose a different professor.
She whisks through content at a very rapid pace and can be hard to keep up with. She also tends not to explain how to solve problems very clearly and she made simple concepts I remembered in Trig seem much more complicated than they really are. Just be prepared to teach yourself on a lot of the material because you'll definitely have to work.
She is organized since the first day of class, because of the syllabus. You will know what lessons are going to be taught at a specific day, and what homework is due. She is very clear about what days the class will have a quiz. A textbook is needed, just do the homework!! You will pass her class if you study, pay attention, and do your homework!
She's really organized and stays on schedule! Business calc is a really tough subject. But Prof Nguyen gives plenty of extra credit opportunities such as 4 extra assignments and extra questions on tests. The questions on the quizzes and tests come straight from the hw so make sure to do it. She drops the lowest test score and the final is 130 pts.
DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. On top of the hw, the extra credit may seem like a lot but the exam questions are based on the extra credit and hw she assigns. She explains things well in lectures and will answer your questions if you have any. The best thing is you do not have to take the final if your overall grade is high enough after the fourth exam.
She is the BEST math teacher here at lbcc. She offers a TON of extra credit. I am not the best at math but there is no way you can take her class and not pass with an A. Take the opportunity if you can take her and take her!! Final replaces your lowest score and if you have over a 96% you don't even have to take the final.
Overall she's a good professor if you are okay with moving quickly through the material. I am not one of those people. I prefer professors to take their time with problems but she rushes through problems and it got difficult for me to keep up and actually retain the information.
This class feel tough to pass. Lectures are confusing. There is no study guide for exams, but there is practice test extra credit to do from book, still not enough. The exams feel diff from the book and hw, even though she say she pull problems from the hw. Review day sucks she make class ask her questions rather than show you practice exam.
Although this class was a work load professor Nguyen makes the class go by so smoothly she tells you exactly what you need to know to pass the class the the exams are exactly what she goes over with us in class and you will have hw due every class day. I hate math but she made it possible for me to grasp the concept. Great professor!
This class was my fourth one, and sadly last one, that I took with Simone. She is a teacher that has made an impact in my learning experience at LBCC. I though I was not good at math; but her math explanations and extra credit gave the confidence I needed to believe in myself I could succeed in math. One of the best math teachers at LBCC.
The course was very difficult and there was over 4 pages of homework due every day we attended class. She goes through lectures at an insanely fast pace. If you fall back a couple lectures it is very difficult or near impossible to catch up. Tests are worth over 60% of the class and extra credit barely does anything to your grade. Gl if you take.
First math class in 3 years since HS calc. Prof. Simone is awesome; she has notes ready to print and fill out in class, her book and HW are online through canvas, and the quizzes/tests are from notes/HW with lots of extra credit available. Do the HW/study guide & show up for notes everyday for an easy A. No final for high grade. She's helpful too!
she is an okay professor, Not much of an opinion since I didnt show up half the time and heres why. When it comes to lectures, she is boring and she goes through it very fast. Also, the lecture examples are easy compared to the homwork. Her quizzes are pulled from the homwork we turn in. Her exams? nothing like hw or the E.C practice exams.
Professor Nguyen was my favorite professor this semester. It helps if you love math because this class is 5 units. Some weeks may be a lot but if you spend time getting prepared for the quizzes and the days a lot of homework are due, you should do fine. She will let you know when there are quizzes. No final if you have close to 100% in the class.
Take another professor if you can. Professor Nguyen leaves a crazy amount of hw as if her students are only taking her class and no other classes. The examples she goes over in class are nothing like the hw. Exams are lengthy & she tends to lecture after exams, giving us less time to finish the exams. I really dont know why she has a high rating.
Professor Nguyen is by far the best teacher I have EVER HAD. Math has never been my best subject and I was terrified to take Calc. Her lectures are detailed and she provides amazing feed back. However this is NOT an easy class. She expects you to participate and study. If you are determined to succeed you will pass. You simply need to do the work.
took her when the COVID-19 pandemic hit and classes went online. Zoom "lectures" were Q&A sessions, cut the time for tests by 30 minutes, didn't give partial credit, quizzes got A LOT harder and had a 15 min deadline before you start losing points. nearly half the class failed with a 50%-60% class average. felt like i didn't learn anything.
Pros: teaches basic material clearly Gives some extra credit Free textbook Cons: teaches too quickly Quizzes and tests do not reflect lectures and HW HW IS CRAZY HEAVY! Lecture notes dont always help Text book lacks some material on the hw, youll probably have to google it. Steer clear if you hate HW and useless lectures.
She is really rude to her students when you go over homework because she doesn't want you asking every question from each section and will only start each question because she doesn't want to give you the answers. She also does not cover everything on the homework. On test days you learn more after every test and you can't leave early.
If you can find a different professor, take them instead. This class is very difficult and this teacher loves to take shortcuts and do math in her head. If she actually showed us every step on how to get the answer, Im sure her students will pass. This class made me re think my major. If you take her try not missing any HW assignments.
dont do it unless, shes the only one available.
Simone Nguyen is one of the best math teachers in Long Beach City College. I strongly recommend this class because professor Nguyen was knowledge , clearer, and response every questions quickly. She was the person who always be there and finds way to help student better understanding. Her efficient work with papers actively encourages students.
During this pandemic I feel professors should be more understanding on students, this one does not. Her lectures are all over the place, she skips steps and expects you to know it. The way you have to submit HW is harder and if she cant read it you wont get points. This is my last class before transfer and she will make you stressed.
NEVER take bus calc online w/ this prof if you have the option to choose. even if enrolled in synchronous, you have to teach yourself the material by watching her poorly made vids. her exams are nothing like the material and she doesnt consider the fact that were in a pandemic and has crazy restrictions. im only passing bc i took ap calc in hs
Might've been an excellent IRL teacher, but online she is subpar. Even when doing a simple thing like asking a question in a lecture, it feels like she's judging you for not knowing it already. Doesn't give enough time for exams or quizzes, and gives excessive homework. I will not be retaking with her.
Wouldnt recommend this teacher during a pandemic. This professor is not understanding! Tests and quizzes proctored on zoom. Very passive aggressive comments about the questions asked and class in general. Sends mean emails to class. Only passing because I taught myself and spend endless hours filling in missing holes. One pro - extra credit.
Took this during this whole COVID deal so a little different of a class. The "lecture" times are really her office hours so if you have questions you can go in there and she will help with the homework or any other problems. Grade is very test heavy, I barely turned in any homework but you can still pass with a B or higher on each test or final.
I loved this class. It's run A-synchronous so no live lectures, but we do log into zoom to take proctored exams and quizzes. I thought the lectures were not too long and very detailed. I always felt prepared for the tests. It's hard material, but the professor gives lots of partial credit and extra credit to cushion your score. Great teacher!
I took Math 50 with her during the fall semester of 2020. It was all online and was a asynchronous class, but did have to log onto Zoom i every Thursday for quizzes and exams. She was an amazing professor. She explains all the concepts in her video lectures and WATCH THEM ALL. It is math, you need to watch all those videos and do all the hw to pass
I take her for Winter 2021. I love her way of teaching. No need to buy the textbook, and we can always learn from her teaching through video she made. I know there are lots of homework, but she gives us practice exam before every exam so that we can have an idea or refresh our knowledge before doing the exam. I also get an A+ without doing Final.
Lecture videos are not helpful. She gives definitions and summarize instead of showing us the work on example problems. You are on your own if you take her class. She expect you to know the pre-requisite basic math and would not remind us while lecturing. If you are good at math, it's going to be an easy A for you because she gives lots of E.C.
only pro was extra credit. Her office hours were pointless because if you had questions she would either make you feel bad about it or say we should already know it. Proctored exams but the way she has you set up is ridiculous. Not understanding AT ALL. This is the most stressed I have been taking a course&Ive had other classes during COVID.
Professor Nguyen gave so many extra credit opportunities and I normally hate math, but she made it so interesting. Her recorded lectures are lifesavers and she wrote her own textbook, so you use it for free! She is incredibly organized and although it is a lot of work to even get ahead, it is definitely possible.
Awful with everything, strong accent very strict on testing and probably doesn't care about your mental state during covid, prepare yourself for 40 questions of homework per section every week. She provides the book, the meetings are not mandatory but she does not like if you solve questions without showing her way to solve them, Please avoid plz
WORST PRECALC PROFESSOR! Her writing is sloppy! She doesn't care that you have other classes, she gives lots of hw. Quizzes/Tests are monitored through zoom, plus you have to print them. Thick accent & not clear on what she teaches. Makes lots of mistakes & expects you to know how to correctly solve a problem. Very confusing. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!
Don't take this professor, she offers a lot of work and are barley worth any points! Besides that you can not even use your notes to help you with your quiz and tests. Her extra credit is only worth 3-5 points, which is literally nothing! Her lectures are not even organized she has pre recordings of the chapters but they barely help with hw.
Definitely make you work for your grade. Every week two sections of homework are due. There are four quizzes and five Exams. No notes can be used during these exams. The only exception is the final exam where she lets you use a flashcard of notes.
Horrible, horrible, horrible. She seems nice, understanding and caring at first but once you start to get into the class it just drops from there. To sum it up. I got the right answer but I did a different method than she wanted me to and I got marked wrong. If you're bad at math look elsewhere please !
Starts course off easier than expected then gets tougher as the semester goes along
Expects too much and not a Very caring and understanding teacher Personality is terrible
Professor does not give any feedback for the assignments. You will not know where you go wrong on tests so you can study for the next. She will give you lots of homework and she doesn't care if you have other classes. "Life isn't fair so stop complaining" were her words when it was brought up. If you take this class DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! Good luck!
This was by far the worst professor I have ever had. If you expect any feedback toward exams or quizzes, save your breath. We started with a lot of students in the class, but ended up having a handful of students. It was a consensus from most students that this was the worst professor to have for this course. Might as well just teach yourself.
She just makes mathematics so easy. The way she teaches is incredible, provides a lot of helpful videos. A lot of extra credits. 4 exams, and 4 quizzes. And the regular weekly homework. You have to show work and study, though.
This is a fair warning, you will probably fail this class. More students are failed or dropped than pass, so the odds are not in your favor. If you mess up on one exam, consider your chances of passing over because getting high exam grades is the only path to passing this class. The lectures are painful, and you cant ask questions during class.
Loved class with Prof Nguyen. Super great lecturer, connected things to bigger picture, never assumed people already knew about things, took time to explain, homework was perfect prep for exams, thorough feedback on exams, well organized, wouldn't change a thing! She has genuine and amazing enthusiasm for the material and it shows in the best way.
She's a very serious professor. When u ask questions she makes u feel bad by constantly saying "as I've said" as if u weren't paying attention even though its just clarification needed. The unnecessary attitude makes the class feel very intense so if u have ANY issues with anxiety like I do, you're screwed. I've had to leave the class to cry.
I took this class online and it has been the most difficult class I've ever taken. The notes are easy to follow for the most part but when I get to the homework. The problems are way more advanced then what she went over. And on top of that she doesn't allow notes being used for exams.
If you have difficulty grasping math concepts, do not take a class with her. She establishes fairly quickly that she detests questions. She will also shame you for forgetting a prior concept you learn. She does give a fair amount of extra credit which I am sure is necessary for many students to pass. Would not recommend for anyone needing clarity
Although she gives extra credit, I wasn't expecting around 12-16 pages of homework due every week. I have two binders filled with notes and hw and we're only halfway through the semester. I love math but this is excessive. Watching Brian Mclogan on youtube and a subscription to mathway is the only way for me to understand hw & lectures.
Whether or not you are good in math, do not take this prof. She is not a good teacher.
Prof Nguyen was the first professor to ever really work with me on what I was missing - just had to email her and stick around for her office hours which are usually right after class. I took her online PreCalc class and she was really good at making the notes go well with the homework. Just take good notes, rewatch the recordings, & ask for help.
The course was very difficult and there was over 4 pages of homework due every day we attended class. She goes through lectures at an insanely fast pace and doesn't care If you fall back a couple lectures it is very difficult or near impossible to catch up. Tests are worth over 60% of the class and extra credit barely does anything to your grade.
This has got to be the toughest class I've ever taken. I was in the math tutoring center almost everyday and the tutors there explained things more clear than the prof. The homework is roughly 4 pages long every week. She rushes through explanations as well. Median scores for exams and quizzes are mostly below 50%. I DO NOT RECCOMMEND!
Don't take this class
This is a tough class. You must watch lectures and practice to pass. The class is organized well, she provides study guides for exams for e.c. DO NOT SKIP THOSE. She is very responsive to emails. She does speed through lectures EXTREMELY fast, but they are recorded so that you can rewatch. Partial credit on exams. Test heavy. Study study study!
Professor Nguyen, will give you a zero even if you get the correct solution if you do not use her exact method. I use the textbook she offers to study, but if you use the textbook method she will accuse you of cheating since she did not cover it in class. Homework would take at least 4 hours a week to complete.
would not take again.
her textbook isn't the best. rushes through lessons AND quizzes. a handful of people dropped around the second week of class. get cozy in the tutor center if you want to pass with a C.
Professor admitted on first day she had never taught the class topic before. Grading is incredibly arbitrary and strict. Find a different professor if you can.
Idk who gave her so many 5 star reviews but don't trust them. Worst Professor I have ever had. She does not care about you, is very strict and condescending comments to students all the time. If you mess up even a little bit on exams she marks half credit off or just gives no credit. Speeds through lecture and gives almost no time to process.
Do not take this professor unless you are good at Math. Every Wednesday is a quiz you get 5 problems get 20 mins to do it including upload. Lectures are always in a hurry to do and Nguyen is very rude when asking questions about a problem and refers you view a previous chapter. Exams are 32 problems 2 hours max to do it/ no formula notes on test!
In my opinion she is not strict on the exams and even allows extra credit on them. Those having issues in this course should reconsider your majors, all complaints here you will find in any other math course, it's the nature of the subject. She's caring and provides great learning material inside/outside the classroom. People want an effortless A.
The CONTEXT you are learning IS difficult and REQUIRES EFFORT. That implies asking her questions after attempting, attending her office hours, and even attending tutoring sessions in the math success center. PRINT her "fill in" worksheets. MINI QUIZZES each week on the second day you meet. DO NOT MISS CLASS. Keep the work, you'll pass.
Horrible, Do not recommend taking this professor at all
Challenging class, but using Unstuckstudy along with the textbook helped me stay on top of the material. Attendance is a must, and practice is key to passing. Worth the effort.
Professor Nguyen was amazing when teaching us the different methods used in finite math. There were 2 quizzes given for each week, mind you, it was an 8-week term, so it's understandable. They consist of 3 questions that were previously taught. As long as you write down notes, you'll be good. Also, the homework was online. I recommend you take her.
for an 8-week class with tough material, its difficult but if you participate in class, and don't miss any classes you can pass. studying and doing practice examples help a lot...tests are like the quizzes and homework given, nice professor
Lot's of material to cover within a short time frame. Show up everyday, take good notes, go to office hours/MSC, and you should be able to pass. You need to put in the time for the hw/exams because the material is challenging. Professor does a great job explaining it and breaking it down as simple as possible for all to understand.
This class should be longer than 8 weeks because it's not enough time to actually retain the content. She rushes through lessons and seems to get a little annoyed when people asked questions, which is why a lot of people in class didn't like asking questions. She also can come off as dismissive and a bit condescending. Glad I'm done with this class
She shouldn't be the only professor teaching this course. I've thought of dropping this class many times but had to stay because I needed to take it to graduate. It was torture. She rushes lectures and gets annoyed when you ask questions.
Not the ideal precalculus professor. If she's your last option, take her. If not, don't.
Professor Nguyen goes over the material off well-structured notes she created which you can print off or use an iPad. Be prepared for weekly quizzes that contains about 3-6 questions, 3 mid-terms (about 12 questions), and 1 final (about 21 questions). She offers extra credit every mid-term. Highly recommend for a grade booster.
